Another Stunning photo of ‘Bruce’ Caitlyn Jenner in a bath robe

Featured Image

Vanity Fair’s veteran fashion & style director, Jessica Diehl(above) styled Caitlyn Jenner has opened up on her style….

She’s all-American in so many ways. She has certain ideas about what she feels great in. But those ideas are still forming and taking shape. There will be some experimentation and trying things. Welcome to the world of women’s fashion! It’s not always smooth sailing, but I think she has a pretty good idea of what makes her feel good, and those are classic silhouettes. She has a fantastic physique. It’s just a totally well-taken-care-of physique. She’s an athlete, so the muscle tone is incredible. She’s slim, and her proportions are very easy to dress.

On trying to emulate Kim K’s style..

Yes, and that is no disrespect to the Kardashian clothing choices at all. It’s just that feels more comfortable to her. Not to say that she won’t rock a sexy Roland Mouret number. She would love it. But there is definitely a more restrained feeling so far. Hopefully she’ll get to just have fun with it rather than have the fashion police judging what she wears every day. I think the most important thing here is that she gets to have fun and finally do things she’s been wanting to do. For all I care, she could wear a purple striped muumuu dress that would be a fashion failure. But if that is a happy moment for her, that is a success to me.

On confidence

Absolutely. I’d like a slice out of that confidence pie. She was comfortable, confident, and has absolutely no reason not to be. It was probably the most exciting thing to see—there was real joy in her feeling comfortable and happy in her skin. It was amazing. I don’t usually get super-sentimental about things, but that was probably the most emotional and open experience I have ever had on a shoot.

Why sleeping naked is good for you…

Featured Image

Do you know wearing nothing at all in bed could boost your health? As you sleep tonight, try sleeping without clothes on.
Dr Sarah Brewer, a GP and nutritionist based in Guernsey, says sleeping naked can regulate your temperature, helping you get the best night sleep,’

This is because people tend to fall asleep more quickly, and have better quality sleep, when the temperature is lower. And ditching pyjamas could be one way of preventing overheating in bed, which can exaggerate pre-existing skin problems.Women who sleep naked are less likely to suffer from yeast infections.

Men who also sleep naked are not as prone fungal infections in their groin – also known as the Jock Strap Itch.Going without pyjamas helps men keep normal testosterone levels too, as being too hot disturbs sleep, and testosterone production may be reduced.

Dr Brewer added that sleeping naked helps couples bond and increases intimacy.

‘Sleeping naked gives us a sense of freedom and may help you feel more sexy and loving,’ she said.‘Humans are highly-tuned to the sight of bare skin and this acts as a signal for sexual arousal.‘Sleeping naked can help improve intimacy between you and your partner and give you a boost of body confidence.’

For women experiencing menopausal symptoms, or men with testosterone-deficiency syndrome, keeping cool in bed can help avoid triggering a hot flush.

Sepp Blatter Resigns As FIFA President [Speech In Full]

Featured Image

Just four days after celebrating his reelection, Sepp Blatter has announced his resignation from FIFA.

The Swiss announced his resignation at a press conference that was arranged hurriedly in Zurich.

“I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the forty years in which my life has been inextricably bound to Fifa and the great sport of football.
“I cherish Fifa more than anything and I want to do only what is best for Fifa and for football. I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but Fifa’s challenges are not.

“Fifa needs a profound overhaul. While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football – the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at Fifa.

“Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective Congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa President until that election.

“The next ordinary Fifa Congress will take place on May 13, 2016 in Mexico City. This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the Executive Committee to organise an Extraordinary Congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity. This will need to be done in line with Fifa’s statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign.

“Since I shall not be a candidate, and am therefore now free from the constraints that elections inevitably impose, I shall be able to focus on driving far-reaching, fundamental reforms that transcend our previous efforts. For years, we have worked hard to put in place administrative reforms, but it is plain to me that while these must continue, they are not enough.

“The Executive Committee includes representatives of confederations over whom we have no control, but for whose actions Fifa is held responsible.

“We need deep-rooted structural change. The size of the Executive Committee must be reduced and its members should be elected through the Fifa Congress.

“The integrity checks for all Executive Committee members must be organised centrally through Fifa and not through the confederations. We need term limits not only for the president but for all members of the Executive Committee.

“I have fought for these changes before and, as everyone knows, my efforts have been blocked. This time, I will succeed.

“I cannot do this alone. I have asked Domenico Scala to oversee the introduction and implementation of these and other measures.

“Mr. Scala is the Independent Chairman of our Audit and Compliance Committee elected by the Fifa Congress. He is also the Chairman of the ad hoc Electoral Committee and, as such, he will oversee the election of my successor. Mr. Scala enjoys the confidence of a wide range of constituents within and outside of Fifa and has all the knowledge and experience necessary to help tackle these major reforms.

“It is my deep care for Fifa and its interests, which I hold very dear, that has led me to take this decision. I would like to thank those who have always supported me in a constructive and loyal manner as president of Fifa and who have done so much for the game that we all love. What matters to me more than anything is that when all of this is over, football is the winner.”

She gave a very revealing interview to Diane Sawyer last month (while she was still Bruce), where she revealed that she’d been living a lie while pretending to be the man Bruce Jenner, when she knew deep down for years that she really was a woman.

Following the split from Chris Jenner, Caitlyn was photographed looking more ‘feminine’ than was usual while still Bruce. Longer hair, softer features from hormonal therapies, facial reconstruction to get rid of the Adam’s apple and breast enlargements were all part of the journey that saw Bruce transform into Caitlyn.

The Kardashian clan head has received immense support from his immediate family with his two previous wives and kids from those marriages standing by their father as this new chapter of their lives begin. The Kardashians have also expressed support for their father/step father with Khloe and Kim expressing how ‘proud’ they were of what their father was doing.

Within hours of setting up a new Twitter account, Caitlyn Jenner has already amassed over 2 million followers with her first tweet welcoming Caitlyn into the world being retweeted over 250, 000 times.

Caitlyn’s wasn’t the only big news from the cast of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Yesterday, his step daughter Kim Kardashian also announced that she was expecting her second child with husband Kanye West. Kim has been very open her struggle to conceive after giving birth to daughter North almost 2 years ago. The 34 year old reality star said the family was ‘beyond thrilled’ to finally be getting a new addition.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie recounts harrowing tale of father’s kidnapping in Nigeria

Featured Image

Blasts Nigerian security officials for ineptitude after family asked to pay for anti kidnapping equipment

Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has told of the family’s pain after her father Professor Adichie was kidnapped by unknown men in the eastern region of Nigeria in May.

The 37-year-old author writes in a New York Times post about the horrid events leading up to the 83 year old’s abduction on a trip to Abba in early May.

Abductions aren’t rare in Nigeria, particularly of notable people or their relatives as they’re deemed to be ‘wealthy’. Over the years, the Niger Delta has also seen an increase in abductions of expats who command a higher ransom for their return than Nigerian nationals. Most victims of kidnappings are usually returned to their families after huge sums of money is paid to the kidnappers as ransom, but not all cases have such a ‘happy’ ending as some families have had to endure unbearable loss of loved ones after family members have been killed, sometimes even after the ransom has been paid.

Thankfully, the former was the case with the Adichie’s who are still smeared by the events of that fateful day. “My mother was planning his lunch for his return. They always call each other when they travel,” wrote Adichie,  as she described their closely knit family unit. When his wife didn’t hear from him by the end of the day, an alarm was raised, but it wasn’t until three days later before the family would hear about their patriarch with the kidnappers leaving the chilling response, “We have your husband. If you do not give us what we want, you will never see his dead body” as they finally answered his phone.

As any family would, Adichie describes how the family scrambled to raise the ransom amount (which she doesn’t disclose) as they attempted to work unsuccessfully with the Nigerian authority, who not only didn’t do much to try to rescue Adichie’s father, but also requested the family to pay for ‘anti kidnap tracking equipment’. This, despite the award-winning writer’s considerable access to senior security officials who assured her of their full cooperation.

The Adichie’s experience brings to the fore the corruption and inadequacies of the Nigerian security system, which seems unable to cope with the demands of protecting a country with the security challenges that a diverse country like Nigeria has. If someone with access like the Adichie’s were left powerless in the face of such an atrocity by the State, one can only imagine the fate of families who cannot afford such huge ransoms and have no means of raising such an amount of money in a short space of time.

We can also forget about the chance that any of these men/women will ever be brought to justice. As long as the Nigerian security forces continues to fail the people it’s meant to protect, such criminals will continue to enjoy free reign and we can expect many more stories such as the Adichie’s.

Can Eskom fulfil its plan to Keep South Africans warm this winter?

Featured Image

If the words of Acting CEO of Eskom, Brian Molefe, are anything to go by, South Africans will be enjoying uninterrupted power supply this winter.

The troubled utility company has been in turmoil since its old power assets started giving way, forcing many South Africans into perpetual blackouts. For the last seven month, there have been cases of power cuts reported in many part of Africa’s most advanced country, resulting in slower GDP growth and economic activities. It has been employing load shedding strategy as an interim solution. However, in a statement released on Eskom official website earlier today, the company revealed that it was keen to ditch the load shedding strategy, as it has enough capacity to meet national.

Winter officially started yesterday in South Africa, and Koeberg’s unit 1 power station has returned to full operation. Eskom believes this, and investments in nuclear and other renewable energy sources, will enable it meet its goal of keeping South Africans warm.

Despite these claims, regions such as Melkbosstrand, Paarl, Soweto have reported contrary experiences. “Why is all of Melkbos without power?” tweeted a resident of Melkobs. The broke power utility company, which has been advised by experts to allow private sector participation also supplies neighboring countries such as Namibia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

Meanwhile, unions and civil society groups earlier today in Johannesburg held an electricity crisis conference tagged “Will this be a winter without power?” Speaking on the lingering power crisis, United Association of South Africa (UASA) Brian Muir said that the workers were united and are condemning the war room’s slow response and management of the crisis. “There is no transparency and we don’t know as South Africans what is happening behind closed doors.”

Also, with an unstable leadership–two of its Chief Executive Officers, Dan Marokane and TShediso Matona, were recently suspended–achieving an uninterrupted power supply through winter remains uncertain.

Luis Enrique Hits Back At Chiellini, Says Messi Will Score That Goal Anywhere

Featured Image

Luis Enrique believes that Messi will be able to score the same goal he scored against Athletic in the Copa del Rey final against any team in any league.

The Argentine forward meandered his way between three Athletic players before topping the fine performance with a spectacular goal.

Chiellini though, has said that Messi will not be able to replicate that same performance in Italy.

However, the Barca boss told reporters: “I think he can do it in any circumstances, in any league in the world.

“Messi is the best player in world, in history probably. Messi, since he [came to Barca] has adapted to a way of playing that benefits him.

“His team-mates are of the highest quality and he has been playing from early on with players who enjoy the game.

“They are not so physical but they play the ball, this is the idea we have here and I’m sure it has contributed to his success.

“He is the best in world but his environment is extremely beneficial for him.”

Chiellini: There’d Be No Wondergoal For god-like Messi In Italy

Featured Image

Chiellini has made it known that the wonder goal Messi scored against Athletic in the Copa del Rey final will be impossible against an Italian defence.

Messi’s brilliance us once again the talk of the globe after his opener against Athletic left four players trailing after him.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Champions League final against Barca, Chiellini lauded Messi’s talent but argued the four-time Ballon d’Or winner would be better marked if he plied his trade in Serie A.

“It was certainly a great goal,” the versatile centre-back told reporters on Monday. “I don’t think Messi would be able to score a goal like that in Italy, where the defending is much better than in Spain.

“There’s better football in La Liga but worse defending.

“But Messi is now the god of football. It’s difficult to compare him with Diego Maradona, Pele and company, but he’s probably the best player of the last 30 years.”

MTN wage strike, another catastrophe?

Featured Image

Despite MTN’s attempt at negotiating, the workers strike which began on the 21st of May 2015 in Fairland, Johannesburg, is still ongoing. The striking workers—led by the Communication Workers Union (CWU)—who are demanding a higher pay than the 8 percent pay increase MTN is offering, has forced the multinational telecom to close some of its South African customer help centres.

The failure of the parties to reach an agreement has led to chaos. Reports claim that the street outside MTN’s plush head office near Roodepoort in Johannesburg resembled a war zone on Friday 29th of May, as striking workers burnt tyres and barricaded the entrance. MTN chief human resources officer, Themba Nyathi, said at least four staff members in Polokwane, Limpopo, had to be taken to hospital after they were allegedly attacked by striking staff members.

In the last couple of days, police have reportedly used tear gases and fired rubber bullets at protesters, a development that brings back memories of the grim Marikana massacre, which started as a wildcat strike in South Africa 2012. The Marikana killings were a series of violent incidents between the South African Police Service, Lonmin security and the leadership of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on one side and strikers themselves on the other. It resulted in the deaths of 44 people, 41 of whom were striking mineworkers killed by the police. It also left at least 78 workers injured. It began at the Marikana platinum mine—operated by Lonmin at Nkaneng near Rustenburg—when 3,000 workers walked off the job on August 10, 2012, after Lonmin failed to meet with workers to discuss a wage increase. The following day, NUM leaders allegedly opened fire on striking members who were marching to their offices.

While the MTN chief said in a statement that disciplinary steps will be taken and criminal charges will be laid against employees who are implicated in acts of criminality, the CMU defiantly stated that they will not back down and will defend their rights to ‘violence’. A prolongation of this stand-off could lead to a repetition of the Marikana killings if the situation is not properly controlled.

Multinationals are short-changing African governments of $11bn by moving profits abroad

Featured Image

Consortium companies have so far deprived African governments of $11 billion in taxes each year; a major concern that requires the immediate attention of G7 world leaders, who will be gathering for a summit this weekend. They will need to ensure that the summit not only focuses on resource efficiency and the development agenda in Africa, but also set up a new global body to regulate corporate taxation, Oxfam said on Monday.

“It’s absurd that there are international organisations for trade, health and football but not for tax,” Oxfam International executive director Winnie Byanyima said. For reasons such as this, the withholding of taxes in Africa has steadily increased, increasing concern among businesses. By shifting profits overseas to lower tax regimes, these companies are able to escape paying taxes to African countries. But considering the fact that this continent serves as a major source of revenue, the favour ought to be returned. How would Africa be able to advance towards the kind of development it seeks without adequate funds?

Collecting more taxes should make African countries less dependent on aid, thereby creating a more favourable environment for the new set of development goals aimed at ending extreme poverty by September. Claire Godfrey, Oxfam senior adviser and author of the report, explained that funding this agenda over the course of 15 years is crucial to making progress. She also added that tax reform would go a long way towards funding new commitments to improve schooling and healthcare. “G7-based companies alone avoid about $6 billion a year in taxes due to African governments, more than three times the amount the Ebola-affected countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau need to plug their funding gaps to deliver free primary healthcare.”

Oxfam was able to deduce how much Africa loses from tax revenue annually from a United Nations report in April. This estimated $50 billion in illicit funds flow out of Africa each year- a large amount through corporate trade mis-pricing to avoid taxes or in transfers of illegitimate funds. This, when compared to the total financial aid the continent has received from the developed world, show that Africa can live without such handouts. Over the past 40 years, Africa has received $400 billion; a total of about $10 billion a year, five times less than the amount taken away.

Although the G7 summit, scheduled for June 7th and 8th in Bavaria, Germany, will largely focus on necessary measures to boost economic growth in Africa, there are other pressing matters. A paramount topic of discussion should revolve around reforming the global tax system.
