Sabon-Gari Market Fire – Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed concern over the increasing incidence of market fires following the Sabon-Gari market fire.

The popular market burned down early Saturday morning, and Saraki expressed his condolences as he worried about yet another market fire.

20 Dead As Bomb Explodes At Sabon Garin, Zaria

He said in a statement: “The continuous loss of merchandise and properties in many commodity markets in the country, and Kano in particular, to fire disasters has reached a worrisome level that requires urgent measures to combat the trend.

“These fire incidents have deprived our hard working and determined traders the means of livelihood and survival and these traders are expectedly breadwinners of their families.

“In addition, these losses represent the depletion of national wealth as most of the victims constitute a significant chunk of the entrepreneurial class, who are supposedly great contributors to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“This is most unfortunate to the economy of Kano State, more so, coming after the destruction of the Kurmi market, the oldest market in Kano by fire, and the recent inferno at the furniture section of the Abubakar Rimi market.

Tribunal Refuses To Quash Corruption Charges Against Saraki

“The Senate is pained by the loss, and I seize this opportunity to underscore the need for adequate preventive measures against fire disasters in our markets.

“All markets in the country must be built with the plans to prevent outbreak of fire and equipped with fire-fighting equipment. Also, market women should be trained in fire preventive measures and drills,” he said.

Chad Withdraws From AFCON Qualifiers

Featured Image

Chad have withdrawn from the AFCON 2017 qualifiers, dealing Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the competition a huge blow.

It is believed financial constraints is the reason for Chad’s withdrawal, as they sit bottom of the group with zero points from three matches.

In accordance with qualifying rules, all points garnered from matches involving Chad will be annulled, with Nigeria sitting two points behind Egypt with two matches to go.

Nigeria, who failed to reach the 2015 tournament having lifted the trophy in 2013, had been in the running to qualify as one of two best runners-up, but the CAF has confirmed that only the top-placed team will now be eligible to qualify from Group G.

Why Christians Should Not Celebrate Easter – Femi Aribisala

Featured Image

Most Christians are unaware that Easter is a pagan festival surreptitiously merged with Christianity.

Easter is not a Christian holiday. The word Easter is not even scriptural; it does not exist in true translations of the bible. Easter was smuggled into the King James Bible in Acts 12:4, where it was substituted for the original word, “Passover:” “When (Herod) had apprehended (Peter), he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.”

As a matter of fact, the word Easter only appears in the King James Version of English Bible translations. It does not exist in any other English Bible translation. Even the King James Version was forced to remove it from its revised version, known as the New King James Version.

Queen of Heaven

Most Christians are unaware that Easter is a pagan festival surreptitiously merged with Christianity. Noah’s son, Ham, married a woman called Ashtoreth. In some cultures, Ashtoreth is called Ishtar, which is transliterated in English as Easter. Ashtoreth made herself “the Queen of Heaven,” the goddess of fertility and became an object of worship. This idol worship of Ashtoreth, later camouflaged in Christendom as Easter, is specifically forbidden in the scriptures.

God says: “The women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces? Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, my anger and my fury will be poured out on this place.” (Jeremiah 7:17-20).

God punished Israel for succumbing to the worship of Ashtoreth (Ishtar): “They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel. So he delivered them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled them.” (Judges 2:13-14).

Accordingly, Samuel counselled Israel to forsake Ashtoreth (Ishtar) worship: “Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, ‘If you return to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve him only; and he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” (1 Samuel 7:3).

Sun worship

Ham and Ashtoreth gave birth to a son called Nimrod. After Ham’s death, Nimrod married Ashtoreth, his own mother, and became a powerful king of ancient Babylon. When Nimrod was also killed, Ashtoreth deified him as sun-god or life-giver. Indeed, Easter means “movement towards the rising sun.” It pertains to the religious rites of people who worship the sun and the signs of the heavens.

Sun worship is expressly forbidden in the scriptures. Ezekiel says: “I was then led into the temple’s inner courtyard, where I saw about twenty-five men standing near the entrance, between the porch and the altar. Their backs were to the LORD’s temple, and they were bowing down to the rising sun. God said, ‘Ezekiel, it’s bad enough that the people of Judah are doing these disgusting things.’” (Ezekiel 8:16-17).

Nevertheless, following this pagan tradition, “Sunrise Services” are conducted on Easter Sunday mornings in many Christian denominations.

Hot crossed buns

In Western Europe, it is traditional to eat hot-crossed buns on Easter Sunday morning. This is where we get the limerick: “Hot crossed buns; hot crossed buns. One a-penny, two a-penny, hot crossed buns.”

These small sweet buns are usually decorated with solar crosses made of white icing. They were consecrated in ancient Greece to the goddess of the sunrise. In ancient Babylon, the buns were offered to the Queen of Heaven; the goddess of Easter.

Pagan Lent

After the death of Nimrod, Ashtoreth (Ishtar) gave birth to Tammuz, a son she claimed was Nimrod reborn. When Tammuz was killed by a wild boar, Ashtoreth instituted an annual ritual of 40 days of mourning for Baal worshippers, when no meat was allowed to be eaten. This pagan tradition of “weeping for Tammuz” is specifically proscribed in the scriptures.

God said to Ezekiel: “Turn again, and you will see greater abominations that they are doing.” So he brought me to the door of the north gate of the LORD’S house; and to my dismay, women were sitting there weeping for Tammuz.” (Ezekiel 8:13-14).

Nevertheless, weeping for Tammuz has been absorbed into Christianity by the institution of Lent; a 40-day period of fasting and prayer observed in some Christian denominations as a prelude to Easter. Just like Easter, Lent is not scriptural. Neither the word nor the custom exist in the Bible. Lent begins, according to Christian tradition, on Ash Wednesday; which is also pagan. The ashes were said to be the seed of the Indian fire god, Agni, deemed to have the power to forgive sins.

Easter egg

Because of their prolific nature in reproduction, rabbits were associated with Ishtar, the goddess of fertility. This is where Christians borrowed the tradition of the Easter bunny. Ancient Babylonians believed an egg fell into the Euphrates River from the moon. Queen Ishtar was apparently “hatched” from this egg. This moon egg was called Ishtar’s egg; which became in Christendom Easter egg.

Shifting date

Have you noticed that your birthday falls on different days from year to year? So how come the celebration of Easter always falls on Friday and on Sunday? Moreover, unlike your birthday, the date for Easter changes from year to year. Sometimes it is in March; sometimes in April.

Easter moves from year to year because the date has nothing to do with the death and resurrection of Jesus but with the changing cycles of the moon. Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first Vernal Equinox full moon, which is consecrated by pagans as Ishtar’s Sunday. This signifies the astronomical arrival of spring. The pagan belief is that the sun dies at winter (Christmas) and is reborn at spring (Easter).

Good Saturday

Good Friday is also a misnomer. Jesus was not crucified on a Friday. The week in which he was crucified contained two Sabbaths and he was crucified on a Wednesday. The following Thursday was a high Sabbath day; the first day of unleavened bread.

Jesus did not resurrect on a Sunday. He resurrected on a Saturday, which was a regular weekly Sabbath day, different from the high Sabbath of the preceding Thursday. Mary Magdalene discovered the empty tomb on Sunday morning, while it was still dark. Christians should realise that from Friday evening to Sunday morning does not constitute three days and three nights in the grave, but one day and two nights.

The decision to change the day of the resurrection to Sunday was simply a continuation of the Babylonian tradition. Nimrod was ostensibly resurrected on a Sunday; a day devoted to worshipping the sun. By AD 321, Constantine established Sunday as part of the official state religion, and the Sabbath was statutorily changed from Saturday to Sunday.

Christians should desist from celebrating Easter: “Thus says the LORD: ‘Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, for the customs of the peoples are vanity.’” (Jeremiah 10:2-3).

She also denied being involved in forex dealings, hence could not have been a beneficiary of an alleged $22million allocation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The PDP had on Saturday via its verified Twitter handle: @PdpNigeria, posted that Mrs Buhari and some aides of President Muhammadu Buhari were beneficiaries of dollar allocations from the Governor of the CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, even alleging that they got the dollars below the official exchange rate of N197.

PDP Aisha BuhariA company belonging to the wife of Nigeria’s President was accused of collecting $22million at the rate of N185 and then selling it off at N362 that same day.

However, in a swift reaction to the allegations via her Twitter handle @aishambuhari, the wife of the president described the claim as false and unfounded especially as it was without evidence, saying she has never been involved in “any illegal dealings”.

In a series of tweets, she said.

Be advised, any further attempt to malign the person of the Wife of the President will be dealt with according to the law

This is grounds for a lawsuit on defamation of character.

Fuel Scarcity: Tinubu Vents Harsh Words On Buhari’s Petrol Minister, Kachikwu

Featured Image

There are strong indications of a major crack within the high ranking echelons of the ruling party, even as a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has pelted harsh words at the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu over his recent comments on the lingering fuel scarcity in the country.

Tinubu, who was obviously angered by Kachikwu’s apparent lack of empathy and manifest arrogance, blasted him for telling Nigerians that he “was not trained as a magician”, a reference to the lingering fuel scarcity that appears to be defying efforts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

In a statement titled, ‘Kachikwu Needs to Know That Respect and Good Performance Will Do What Magic Cannot,’ the former governor of Lagos state said he believed a member of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government “has strayed from the progressive calling required of this administration.”

The APC leader went on: “I am confident that President Buhari and this government can resolve the issues that press us. From establishing full security and safety to staking a claim to true economic prosperity and fairness, this government shall salvage our national pride and purpose”.

Tinubu’s statement reads:

“1.The art of governance is difficult and complex, especially during trying times. The steep reduction in global oil prices from over 100 dollars per barrel to roughly 40 presents a hard challenge. We can no longer afford past practices. Nigeria now requires creative reform, materially changing the substance of national economic policy as well as the objectives of that policy and how the policy is presented to the people. Therein lies the essence of progressive democratic governance.

“2.The Buhari administration represents the last best hope we have to install such governance in Nigeria and avert the catastrophe that would have befallen us had the prior government remained in place. Had the nation continued with the spendthrift corruption and vagabond economic policies of that administration, we would have soon experienced such a collision with the harsh consequences of that government’s malign ways that our very institutions of government may have been distorted beyond fixture and repair.

“3.In this effort, there may be no economic matter more difficult to unravel and more sensitive to the purse of the average person than the current fuel scarcity. Even here I am confident of progress because I know the commitment of the president to resolving this matter. I make no attempt to hide it. I am an avid and partisan supporter of this government and of the progressive policies of the party, the APC, upon which this government is based.

“4. With that I do reserve the right and the duty as a Nigerian to voice my opinion when I believe a member of this government has strayed from the progressive calling required of this administration. I do this because my greater devotion and love are for this nation and its people. Party and politics fall secondary.

“5.Much public ire has been drawn to the statement made by minister of state Ibe kachikwu that he was not trained as a magician and that basically Nigerians should count themselves fortunate that the NNPC under his stewardship has been able to bring in the amount of petrol fuel it is currently doing.

“6.Perhaps the statement by Kachikwu was made in a moment of unguarded frustration or was an awkward attempt at a joke. Whatever the motive, it was untimely and off-putting. The remark did not sit well with the Nigerian people; they were as right to feel insulted as the Minister was wrong to have said such a thing. The fuel shortage is severely biting for the average person. They are forced to remain in lines far too long, for too much time, to pay too much money for too little fuel. This is no joking matter. Livelihoods and people’s welfare are at stake. With so much on the line, Kachikwu’s flippancy was out-of-line. He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer and that they should just be quiet and endure the shortage for several weeks more.

“7.Kachikwu’s intervention was unhelpful. It panicked and disappointed the public as to the duration of the crisis. It insulted the people by its tonality. He spoke with the imperious nature of a THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PETROLEUM RESOURCES, DR EMMANUEL IBE KACHIKWU THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PETROLEUM RESOURCES, DR EMMANUEL IBE KACHIKWU member of the elitist government the people voted out last year and not the progressive one they voted in. Kachikwu must be reminded that he was not coerced to take this job. He accepted the job and its responsibilities knowingly. He also must remember that he does not own NNPC.

This also is not a private company that owes nothing to the public except the duty of fair dealing. He is a public servant. The seat he sits upon is owned by Nigerians not by him. The company he runs is owned by Nigerians not by him. They are his boss. He is not theirs. Power is vested in the people. He is a mere custodian or agent of their will. In talking to us in such a manner, he committed an act of insubordination. If he had talked so cavalierly to his boss in the private sector, he would have been reprimanded or worse. If wise, the man should refrain from such interjections in the future.

“8.As his ultimate bosses, the people have a right to demand the requisite performance and respect from him. He should apologize for treating them so lightly in this instance. His portfolio being a strategically important one, he needs to reestablish the correct relationship with the public. They no longer feel he is working for their optimal benefit as their servant. Instead, he seems to be standing above them, telling them to take it or leave it. For his policies and stint in office to be successful and a help to this government, he must have the support and belief of the people at this tough time. He must talk to them in a way that they believe he seeks their best interest and understands the hardship weighing upon them. He must ask them to work with him and perhaps to endure a bit longer but with the knowledge that he is working to resolve this matter as fast as he can and as permanently as possible. That he is dedicated to the position that once these current lines are gone that never again shall they reappear as long as he has any influence in the matter.

To do this, requires no magic nor training in that strange craft. It requires empathy, compassion and the willpower to forge a better Nigeria. These must be the common trademarks of those serving in a progressive government for these attributes are integral parts of the spirit and ideals upon which the APC was founded. Upon such notions was this administration voted into office by the Nigerian people in the operation of their sovereign will to seek a national leadership that would pursue their interests to the utmost and give them every fair chance to live in a better Nigeria.

“9.Even though times are hard we must all realize that they would be even harder and much darker would be the immediate horizon had we allowed the venal, kleptocracy of the PDP to continue to lord over the land solely for their selfish benefit and not for the common good.

“10. I am confident that President Buhari and this government can resolve the issues that press us. From establishing full security and safety to staking a claim to true economic prosperity and fairness, this government shall salvage our national pride and purpose. “Let all of us, in and out, of government never forget this. If we adhere to this remembrance, we shall see that magic will not be needed to bring the progress we seek.

Hummels: I’ll Welcome Gotze Back To Dortmund

Featured Image

Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has revealed he will welcome former teammate Mario Gotze back to the club, should he desire to return.

Gotze joined Bayern Munich in 2013 and has not lived up to expectations, struggling for form with the Bavarians.

The German midfielder has been linked with a return to Signal Iduna Park and could also join former manger, Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

However, Hummels feels his former BVB team-mate would be a shrewd addition for Thomas Tuchel’s side and has urged him to return to Signal Iduna Park.

“I don’t know how realistic a return to Dortmund is for Mario,” Hummels told ZDF.

“But he is a player with the potential to become a world-class player. We had some great times together, both at Dortmund and with the national team.

“We are all suffering with him when we see things are not going his way due to bad luck. I would really like to see him back to his best.

“It would be great if he makes the decision that Dortmund is the place to achieve that. It would be a huge boost of quality.”

Presidency Reacts To PDP’s Accusation Of ‘N280m Forex Deal’

Featured Image

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has reacted to an allegation that was post by a Twitter handle — @PDPNigeria — believed to be owned by the opposition party People’s Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that he made N280m dealing in forex.

PDP Buhari 1

This is just as another allegation was raised by the verified Twitter handle of the PDP, accusing President Buhari of withdrawing $23m forex from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for foreign expenses and ‘estacode’.

PDP BuhariDenying the claim on his Facebook page yesterday, the Presidential spokesman said he was not a forex trader.

“It is a lie by PDP to say I bought $800,000 from the CBN. I had only two forex purchases since coming into government: Eight thousand Dollars ($8,000) sent to my daughter and nephews through United Bank for Africa. This is verifiable.

“I’m not a forex trader. The day I choose to start trading in forex, I will resign as a presidential spokesman. If I know the coward and psychopath behind the official PDP handle, I will launch a defamation suit against him or her. And I will claim money in millions as damages,” Shehu said.

It will be recalled, the PDP took to its Twitter handle, @PdpNigeria on Saturday and alleged that the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele assisted Shehu in the deal.

The tweet reads, “FLASH: Garba Shehu got $800,000 forex at N185 from CBN on the instructions of Emefiele, CBN governor and sold at N350 on the same day.”

Messi: I Never Compare Myself With Ronaldo

Featured Image

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has once again stated he doesn’t care about the comparisons to Ronaldo.

The duo are often compared, with the Barcelona forward and Madrid forward dominating the Ballon d’Or for the past seven years.

Messi is not so concerned about Ronaldo’s personal success, as he is focused on winning trophies for his club.

“The press is always looking for comparisons and those kinds of things,” the 28-year-old told MBC.

“The only thing I care about is helping my team and to keep on improving each season.

“I am not comparing myself to Cristiano Ronaldo or to anyone else. I am only thinking about myself and my team-mates and winning games.”

Barcelona take on Real Madrid in their first game after the international break and Messi expects a tight Clasico at Camp Nou, despite his side’s 10-point advantage over their rivals.

“Real Madrid have some great players. They have always had some impressive stars and are one of the best teams in the world,” he added.

“They are always a complicated rival for Barcelona. They always make life difficult for us in the race for the Liga title. There is a lot of competition and we always try to do better than them.”

Another Cleric Gives El-Rufai Ultimatum, ’Withdraw Religious Bill Or Face God’s Wrath’

A popular televangelist, Dr Chris Okafor has given Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state a 14-day ultimatum (since march 20) to withdraw his impending Religious Bill before the state House of Assembly or face the wrath of God.

This is just as an Edo-based pastor, Apostle Johnson Suleiman of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) had fired a warning at the governor for the bill which is aimed at restricting the activities of religious preachers in the state.

The cleric made this disclosure known at his Liberation City Church headquarters on Sunday, March 20, as he read out the details of the proposed bill from a mobile phone before screaming: “El Rufai, Herod, leave the church alone!”

The clergyman said: “El-Rufai take time! God is angry with you! You have 14 days to reverse that law or the wrath of God will come against you! You should count it, 14 days from today to reverse and invalidate that law, if he refuses to do so, he should expect the wrath of God to visit him.

“It will not happen in my time, it will not happen in your time, it will not be on record that it happened in my time, No! It will not happen.”

Okafor continued: “I prayed very well, and the Lord told me to go ahead and warn El Rufai. And I want you all to count 14 days from the day of the prophecy. If he does not retrace his steps and abandon that bill, God will take steps to honor His words. 14 days! Please count it.”

He noted that the bill is potentially anti-Christian and warned that El-Rufai was only being used to test run something that would later become a bigger plan to Islamize Nigeria.

Is Hector Bellerin Faster Than Usain Bolt? World Champion Doesn’t Think So

Is Hector Bellerin Faster Than Usain Bolt – Sprinting world champion Usain Bolt has described reports that Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is faster than him as funny.

Is Hector Bellerin Faster Than Usain Bolt

Is Hector Bellerin Faster Than Usain Bolt

A 2015 report by the BBC had claimed that Bellerin had recorded a faster 40m dash than Bolt, with Bellerin covering it in a shorter 4.42 seconds, compared to Bolt’s 4.64 seconds.

Blessing Okagbare Beats Usain Bolt’s Guiness Book Record

When shown the report, Bellerin himself doubted that he could outrun the 6-time Olympic gold medalist. “He’s a sprinter, obviously he’s the quickest man in the world,” he said.

“I’ve seen people say that I’m faster than him and stuff like that but it’s always different when you have a ball at your feet. That’s what my job is all about and I would not try and beat him.”

Bolt described the reports as funny, saying he and Bellerin didn’t train for the same purpose. “These stories make me laugh. Footballers are very fast over the first 10-20 metres – that is what they train for. I train to be fast over 100 metres or 200 metres.”

Alderweireld Confident Tottenham Can Beat Anyone

Featured Image

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is confident Spurs can beat anyone, as they aim for the EPL trophy.

Tottenham are five points behind Leicester City, with seven games left to go.

Spurs face the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea over their remaining matches, but Alderweireld is adamant they do not have to fear any opponent.

“We are confident in our team,” the Belgium international said to Sky Sports.

“We can beat any team if we keep working hard and at the same level we have been. That’s not arrogance, it’s confidence and that’s the way we have to play.

“We just have to focus game by game. It’s a cliche but it’s the way we have to play. We have seven finals left so let’s start at Liverpool.”

Alderweireld has been in sublime form since joining Spurs from Atletico Madrid at the start of the season and says he is loving life at White Hart Lane.

“I’m enjoying this season. It’s wonderful at Spurs and I’m really happy, so I’m just trying to keep my level until the end of the season,” the 27-year-old added.

“Am I the best defender in the league? I don’t feel that way. I’m just trying to help the team and do my best.

“I don’t like to talk about myself, other people are paid to do that. I try to do my best on the pitch and that’s it.”

Hummels: Dortmund Are Itching To Beat Klopp

Featured Image

Mats Hummels has admitted the boys at Dortmund are desperate to beat their former manager, Jurgen Klopp when he comes to Signal Iduna Park.

Klopp managed BVB between 2008 and 2015, winning two league titles and taking them to the UCL final in 2013.

The German manager who is now in charge at Liverpool, will face his old club in the Europa league.

And Hummels, who admits the return will be emotional, wants a win against his former manager.

“The tie with Liverpool is one where we are simply desperate to beat Klopp. We have to beat him,” Hummels told ZDF.

“Of course, he will get a warm welcome and a warm farewell. But I hope to drive him mad in between.

“There will be a lot of media attention. And it will be something special for the players to meet Klopp again. It will be very interesting, also on an emotional level.

“But I try not to think about it too much yet. I already said after we were paired with Liverpool that we will start thinking about it when the game is actually around the corner.”

The first leg at the Signal Iduna Park takes place on April 7, with the return at Anfield scheduled for April 14.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen Considering His Future At Barcelona

Featured Image

Marc-Andre ter Stegen admits he will have to consider his future if he does not start to get more game-time for Barcelona.

“I’m not considering myself with other clubs because the situation doesn’t currently oblige me to,” he told German outlet sport1.de.

image

“Football is my job and all that matters is the present, the next game. I am not going to be wasting time considering what I do next. Barca are a great club and things can still change between now and the summer.

“If the situation remains the way it is at the moment, however, then we’re definitely going to have to talk – there’s no avoiding that.”

Mauricio Isla To Return Back To Juventus

Featured Image

Mauricio Isla will return to Juventus when his loan at Ligue 1 side Marseille runs out this summer.

The former QPR man has started every league game since the turn of the year for the French outfit, but his agent Fernando Felicevich said:

image

“The player will not be bought by Marsielle. Even if he is playing well for the club, they are not able to buy him for economic reasons, they are not able to take up the option-to-buy clause.

“He will go back to Juventus, where he has one year left on his contract. For the rest, it is too early to talk through any hypotheses.”

Southampton Striker, Graziano Pelle Backs Antonio Conte For Chelsea Job

Featured Image

Italy forward Graziano Pelle believes Antonio Conte will be a success in the Premier League if he is confirmed as Chelsea’s next permanent manager.

Antonio Conte is expected to succeed Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink at Stamford Bridge, having announced his intention to leave his role as Italy coach following the 2016 European Championships in France.

It was first reported in February that Antonio Conte is expected to sign a three-year deal to take over at Chelsea and, all being well, will become the 10th manager of the Roman Abramovich-era.

“The coach has the qualities to do well in any tournament. If he does choose to come to the Premier League then he’ll be very welcome,” Pelle told Rai Sport.

“It’s a tough League, but I am convinced Conte will do well. The English press is really hard when it comes to gossip, but on that score I don’t think the coach has anything to worry about. When it comes to talking about football, I think Italian media might be tougher, but it’s only to be expected in the sport.”

Burna Boy’s On A Spaceship Does Not Even Get Off the Ground

Featured Image

When it comes to Burna Boy, it is hard to find middle ground. You either love him or hate him, are refreshed or repulsed by his candour, are accommodating enough to dismiss his many antics or constantly irritated by them.

Burna Boy likes to give off the impression that he does not quite care what you think of him and for most of the time, he is prone to waving a middle finger in the air at the music industry establishment. But the intro of his sophomore album, On a spaceship is a recording of the web sensation Facts Only hosted by Pulse TV’s Osagie Alonge where his merits and demerits as an artiste are considered and concluded.

Somewhere not so deep down, Burna Boy must hunger for love and appreciation, same as any of his peers- from Wizkid to Davido,- and this is why he is as likely to lash out at bloggers using his numerous controversies as click bait as he is going to complain about being left off the nominations list for glitzy but uninfluential prizes like the MTV Africa Music Awards.

These conflicts raging within have been responsible for a debut album that was deeply flawed but had a magnetic appeal that transcended audiences. Powered by a sizzling relationship with Aristokrat records in house producer, Leriq, Burna Boy’s debut, L.I.F.E delivered a competent mix of dancehall, highlife, and afrobeats sounds that the follow up, On a spaceship instantly fails to live up to.

The primary reason of course is the absence of Leriq whom Burna Boy recorded some of his best stuff with. With his exit from Aristoktat records and severing of ties with his former management, Burna Boy turned to contemporary hit makers like Spellz, Sarz and J Fem to give him a distinct edge without exactly losing his core.

These guys (Spellz more than most,) try but none comes close to touching the chemistry Burna Boy shared with Leriq that birthed gems like Run my race and Like to party. It is unclear what he is doing with J Fem in particular as their collaborations are untidy at best and disastrous at worst. Mi o ni gba plays like a B-side of Victoria Kimani’s Tekno produced Show, On a very good day (with Wande Coal) is a studio session gone horribly wrong and the less said about Before, the Flavour assisted road kill, the better. Surely the inclusion of the horrid Wizkid duet, Single must be some type of joke. Nothing else explains its presence on this spaceship. Even the usually dependable Sarz throws in a boring Trance.

The record, coming in at 17 tracks is desperately overlong and under-stuffed and mostly succeeds at diluting plenty of the punch hinted at by early career Burna Boy. It plays like a mixtape from an independent artiste unsure of his next steps. Burna Boy indulges plenty of his fantasies to mixed effects with songs like Rizzla and the over the top trap experiment, Birthday and in his role as overseer of the project, is unable to carry out proper quality control on his record.

He allows whatever sounds good to him without recourse to the effect such songs are sure to have on his career. There is no direction or discipline to the record and it is immediately obvious that Burna Boy’s explosive instincts are badly in need of strong and proper management. This flying solo business does him little favours at all.

There are moments when he gets it right though, like on the album opener Oluwa Burna, as well as highlights like Soke, Gone and the solemn, If people must die. These genuine moments make the listening experience worthwhile and save the record from being dismissed casually even when it really pushes it.

When On a spaceship is good, it is almost excellent but no legacy minded artiste anywhere burnished their legend with trial and error efforts like this.

The glimpses of genius are noted and his talent is suitably recognised but ambitious title aside, Burna Boy’s On a spaceship never comes close to soaring sky high.

Hell, it never even leaves the ground.

Charly Musonda : “English Premier League Clubs Wanted To Sign Me”

Featured Image

Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda has claimed he was targeted by Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United before joining Real Betis on-loan in January.

“Nobody could know what [Jose] Mourinho had in mind for me,” he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

“It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea. Only one thing matters to me – playing. Whether I return [to Chelsea] or not.

image

“There was interest from France, Netherlands. My ex-coach Yannick Ferrera, who I speak to a lot, wanted me at Standard, but I did not want to return to Belgium. And in the end I joined Betis.”

Musonda signed a contract extension with Chelsea in March 2015 and he is currently committed to the club until the summer of 2019.
