Nike Terminates Manny Pacquiao’s Contract For Homophobic Insult

“We want the best boxers to come to the Olympic Games. It is Aiba’s 70th birthday, and we want something to change – not after four years, but now,” Aiba president Wu Ching-kuo said.

Pacquiao on his part is thinking about it. “I’m not saying I’m going to fight or saying I’m not,” Pacquiao said. “I’m not closing the door. I’m thinking about it.”

“The idea you’ll allow professionals into the Olympics at this short notice is absolutely insane,” boxing promoter Bob Arum said, not sharing Pacquiao’s optimism. “These people ought to have their heads examined.”

Barely a week after Abubakar Shekau, the shadowy leader of Nigeria’s ruthless Islamic cult, Boko Haram surfaced in a video looking subdued as he insinuated that the end has come for him, the ferocious death sect issued another video on Friday where it foreclosed cessation of monumental havoc.

In a video clip posted in YouTube on Friday, Boko Haram maintained it was a potent fighting force, with fighters posing with AK-47s in front of Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks and a lorry mounted with a military cannon.

“You should know that there is no truce, there is no negotiations, there is no surrender,” an unidentified masked man wearing camouflage said in a prepared script in Hausa, in the video posted on YouTube.

“This war between us will not stop.”

It will be recalled, in spite of the initial purported remorse demonstrated by leader of the sect, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) still vowed that the Nigerian Armed Forces will not relent in its operations against insurgency in North-East Nigeria.

Barcelona Won’t Sell Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Featured Image

Barcelona have absolutely no intention of selling Liverpool and Man City target Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Both Premier League clubs are reportedly keen on Ter Stegen, who recently admitted that he would have to talk with Barcelona and consider his future if his current situation at the Camp Nou does not change.

The German, who joined Barca in the summer of 2014, predominantly features in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, with Claudio Bravo installed as Luis Enrique’s first-choice goalkeeper in La Liga.

Despite his desire for greater first-team football involvement, Barcelona are not willing to countenance his sale and he is considered non-transferable by the club. The club want the 23-year-old to be their ‘keeper for several years to come.

Ter Stegen is under contract at Barcelona until 2019 and has an €80m buyout clause.

Ramos: Real Madrid Remains The Best

Featured Image

Sergio Ramos believes Real Madrid remains the best team on the world, as they prepare for their weekend clash against Barcelona.

Madrid are third on the log and 10 points behind Barcelona with eight games left.

However, while Ramos admits Luis Enrique’s side have been “the best in almost all competitions” recently, he still believes Madrid sit on top of the pile ahead of the season’s second Clasico.

“These type of games have always been very special, especially given what they involve and the media reaction they have,” the defender told Bwin.

“At the end of the day, we’re the best team in the world playing against another team who in recent years have also been the best in nearly every competition.

“This rivalry has intensified and in the Clasico you notice it even more.

“The most important thing is that the team plays a good game and, obviously, wins.”

Highly Placed Nigerians Slam Fayose Over Comment On Abducted Chibok Girls

Featured Image

The statement made by the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has been greeted with unsurprising backlash and criticism by some well positioned Nigerians.

Fayose had on Wednesday stated that the abduction of the schoolgirls was not true, but a political instrument to unseat the former President Goodluck Jonathan.

READ ALSO: Ayo Fayose Claims No Chibok Girls Are Missing

Fayose had declared vehemently that the abduction saga was a political strategy employed by some elements to vote out Dr Jonathan, even when the Boko Haram group had shown the video of the over 200 girls in captivity, an abduction that caused global outcry.

Reacting to Fayose’s comment on Thursday, a senator representing Osun-West senatorial district, Isiaka Adeleke, called on the governor to put himself in the shoes of the schoolgirls’ parents, adding that even former President Jonathan later admitted that the schoolgirls were kidnapped.

He said, “Fayose should not trivialise this touchy issue. The governor should use his time wisely and pray for the safe return of these girls.”

The Punch reports that another senator representing the Osun-East senatorial district, Babajide Omoworare, called on the country’s security agencies to invite Fayose to tell Nigerians where the kidnapped schoolchildren are.

He said, “Security agents must invite Fayose for us to know where the schoolgirls are. He is probably having classified information. However, if he is playing politics as usual, it is cruel to mock the girls’ parents and Nigerians who are daily in agony and hoping that someday, the girls would come back alive.

“The Buhari administration will do all it can to bring back the girls and end the mockery from people like Fayose.”

Similarly, a former member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Faparusi, described Fayose’s claim as a threat to national security, adding that Fayose’s comment had insulted the sensibilities of the families of the missing girls.

Faparusi said, “Governor Fayose has given the whole country the lead that these girls were neither missing nor dead. All we need to do is to ask him to tell the whole country where they are being kept and nothing more.

“The world-renowned activist, Malala, came to Nigeria to visit Dr Goodluck Jonathan and begged that these children must be recovered. Even after the abduction, some of these girls escaped and were later reunited with their families when Jonathan was still in the saddle.

“Could it be inferred here that the former President who is also a member of Fayose’s party, had lied against his own administration?”

Faparusi called on the security agencies to invite the governor for questioning to shed more light on his claims.

On Thursday, a former Executive Secretary, Ayedire Local Government Council of Osun State, Gbenga Ogunkanmi, said Fayose had lost the sense of dignity and integrity.

He said, “It is shocking that a person occupying the exalted position of governor could open his mouth and gush out these insensible utterances. It shows how debased our political system is. It shows that something is wrong with how our political leaders emerge.”

In collaboration with what Ogunkanmi said, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Joe Igbokwe, said Fayose had subjected himself to public ridicule with his comments.

He said, “It pains me to no end that we are still providing a chance for world-class joker, Fayose, to continue to insult our intelligence. Fayose is an indictment on all of us, especially the educated people of Ekiti State.

“Fayose is a punishment to the people of Nigeria and Ekiti State. The people deserve the kind of government they get. Again, the relocation of Ekiti lawmakers to Oyo State is not unconnected with the house of fraud called Ekiti Government House. Nothing good can come out of Ekiti as long as Fayose is there. Out of nothing comes nothing. You cannot give what you do not have.”

Also, the Political Adviser to Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole Charles Idahosa took a swipe at Fayose, describing him as a “fraudster”.

According to him, Fayose was only biting more than he can chew, “knowing that his sins will soon catch up with him”.

“It’s just a pity that Nigerians tend to forget history fast. I am always shocked when people take Fayose seriously. This regular attack on Buhari is to prepare the ground because he knows he will go down.

“All his actions are to whip up public sentiments so that when his sins catch up with him, people will say that it’s because he is always attacking the government. Is he the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary or spokesman?”

Buhari’s Unfortunate “Siddon Look” At CBN’s Secret Recruitment – Ahmed Oluwasanjo

Featured Image

The secret recruitment of children and relatives of some highly placed Nigerians by the Central Bank of Nigeria has attracted lots of criticisms from the public since it was uncovered in the media a few weeks ago. Yet, President Buhari has refused to respond to or speak out about this.

The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

In a bid to cover up the scandal, the CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor said, “in the last two years, we have had cause to recruit specialists, and what the law says is that if we are going for that kind of recruitment we should apply for waiver, so that we can do targeted recruitment”. Well, its quite interesting that the qualified “specialists” for CBN’s “targeted recruitment” are ONLY the children, relatives and perhaps girlfriends of highly placed Nigerians.

However, the CBN’s claim that it obtained waiver from the Federal Character Commission to do such recruitments has been debunked through a report published by Premium Times, revealing that: “the Federal Character Commission says it is unaware of a waiver authorising the Central Bank of Nigeria to conduct a secret recruitment…” Do we assume that the CBN obtained its ‘waivers’ for the secret recruitment from heaven? Who is deceiving who?

Of course, some blind supporters of President Buhari would call the media platforms uncovering facts about this scandal pro-opposition media. That is fine. They might also label individuals calling the president’s attention to the issue as “wailers” or aggressively chide them to shut up. After all, the president is no “magician”, so anyone criticising the secret recruitment could go to CBN to apprehend the culprits or “go to hell”.

Well, all of these counter-critisms are fine. Buhari belongs to all Nigerians, irrespective of our differences and we are all entitled to our opinions. However, beyond glib talk, I think doing a reminder to the president on the CBN recruitment issue is not out of place for the following reasons: First, to ensure that it is not swept under the carpet. On the other hand, since it would be rash to conclude that President Buhari is aware of the secret recruitment, this might call his attention to the issue and prompt a response from him.

Second, those who expected that the president ought to have reacted on the basis of their belief that his “body language” does signs and wonders are getting really impatient. Of course, they know that job racketeering in public institutions predates the Buhari administration; however, they claim the need for an end to this is one of the reasons they voted for “change”.

Moreover, the fact that some top officials in the civil service were dismissed by the federal government for extortion and offering illegal employment in January justifies why they expect that punitive measures should be taken against those behind the secret recruitment in CBN.

Third and more importantly, letting such issue tarry for too long has negative consequences on President Buhari’s public perception as a man of integrity who frowns at corruption. As a matter of fact, we all recollect how former President Jonathan’s tardiness on some issues attracted public outrage and damaged his public perception beyond redemption.

A few of such cases include: his slowness in responding to the abduction of over 200 Chibok girls; his reluctance to ask former aviation minister, Stella Oduah to step down immediately the news about the extra-budgetary scandal involving her broke and, likewise, his decision to retain former minister of Interior, Abba Moro, after the tragic 2014 Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment exercise that left about 16 job seekers dead. All of these portrayed Jonathan as a weak, clueless, inept and an insensitive leader who also tolerates corruption in the eyes of many Nigerians.

Anyway, I hope these would resonate well with President Buhari as he appears to be buying more time before responding to this issue, if he would at all.

For now, Nigerians still see President Buhari as a man of integrity, which is why his response to the secret recruitment in the CBN is imperative. Of course, nepotism, cronyism and job racketeering falls within the purview of the ongoing fight against corruption, which tops the list on President Buhari’s agenda.

In 2013, a minister in Ghana, Ms. Victoria Hammah, was fired barely 24 hours after her driver taped and publicised her telephone conversation with a friend in which she said, “I will not quit politics until I have made $1 million”. I recall that then, this story was used to draw Jonathan’s attention to what firm, disciplined and strong leadership entails. By extension, I’ll be recommending that particular incident and its fallout to President Buhari as a teachable moment in this fairly analogous instance of corruption.

That said, it is a good idea that President Buhari expects Nigerians – unemployed youth – to be hopeful about the change he promised. On the contrary, it would be difficult to take him much seriously seeing that his nephew, children and relatives of his ministers and other officials of state are already illegally employed in public institutions, to which he says nothing about.

Subotic To Miss Rest Of Season Due To Injury

Featured Image

Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic will be out for the remainder of the season, due to thrombosis in his arm.

The Serbian defender will be unable to perform in any contact sport, but can train alone.

Subotic is pleased with the idea of training alone and is determined to come back stronger.

“Under the circumstances I am doing relatively well,” the centre-back commented on his injury.

“I can stay fit with individual training and when I have recuperated again I will be in better physical condition than ever before.”

Subotic, 27, had lost his starting berth at BVB prior to his injury, making just 11 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

The defender’s absence means Slovenian youngster Jon Stankovic will make the step up from the reserves as a short-term replacement for the rest of the season.

“We will promote Stankovic from our Under-23 squad to take Subotic’s place in the squad following his absence,” stated manager Thomas Tuchel at a news conference.

Dortmund are still challenging for the Bundesliga title – trailing leaders Bayern Munich by five points – as well as the Europa League, with Liverpool awaiting in the quarter-finals, while they will also face Hertha Berlin in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

I Won’t Sign 2016 Budget Unless Critically Reviewed – Buhari Insists

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Thursday maintained that he would not sign the 2016 Appropriation Bill, passed into law by the National Assembly, last week, unless he critically reviewed it.

READ ALSO: Buhari Withholds Assent To 2016 Budget, Seeks Full Details From NASS

The President made this known at a meeting with the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, in Washington DC.

According to him, following the controversial alteration and padding of the budget proposals, he needed to review the document to be certain that its contents tallied with the authentic budget proposal presented to the National Assembly.

He said: “Some bureaucrats removed what we put in the proposal and replaced it with what they wanted.

“I have to look at the bill that has been passed by the National Assembly, ministry by ministry, to be sure that what has been brought back for me to sign is in line with our original submission.”

The National Assembly had passed the bill last week and sent it to the Presidency without its details.

The president, on the other hand, refused to sign the bill into law because he does not know what is contained in the details and what adjustments the National Assembly made to the proposal sent to them last December.

When the President insisted that he will not sign the bill into law until he receives the details, some National Assembly members said it would not be out of place to sign, while others refer to him as being ungrateful for the excellent job done on the document.

They cited instances under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua when budget were signed while the details were being worked on.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffery Onyema, Kerry said the US would invest, at least, $600 million in Nigeria in 2016.

Kerry, who disclosed this during the opening session of the US-Nigeria Bi-national Commission meeting, reiterated the commitment of the US government to Nigeria’s growth.

Zidane: The Clasico Is Not About Revenge

Featured Image

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane does not think his men will be interested in revenge against Barcelona in the clasico.

Madrid lost 4-0 in the reverse fixture, a match that hastened Benitez dismissal.

Zidane has overseen five straight wins in all competitions since February’s 1-0 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid but accepts facing a Barcelona side 10 points better off than his own at the top of La Liga represents a significant challenge.

“The players know perfectly well what happened [in the previous Clasico],” the Frenchman told his pre-match news conference. “Revenge? No, it’s just a game we want to win.

“We’re on a good run, playing well lately. We keep doing our work. I want to see my team playing as they have been doing lately.

“I will sleep the same as always tonight. I will enjoy tomorrow – my first Barca-Madrid match as a coach. I want to enjoy it.

“It’s a football game. We must remember that and enjoy it – a chance to play against good players and test yourself against Barcelona.

“It is not easy to beat Real Madrid. I want to see a good game of football and my team winning.

“On paper, maybe it’s a different game. But we will not change anything. We will prepare well and start the game strongly.

“For a player, El Clasico is the most beautiful game that exists in football. I’m happy now to live it as a coach.”

In Lagos: Governor Ambode To Cancel Restriction On Sanitation Day

Featured Image

The Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led government of Lagos state has unveiled plans to cancel restriction during the monthly environmental sanitation in the state by the end of 2016.

This was declared on Thursday by the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, at the monthly briefing of the ministry.

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, in line with his responsive government, hopes to discontinue restriction during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise,” he said.

According to the governor, Lagos state, which is the fifth biggest economy in Africa, should always function round the clock.

Mr Adejare said that the government could no longer afford to keep shutting down the megacity because of sanitation.

In a related development, the commissioner disclosed that the state government had issued a seven-day notice with effect from Thursday to some markets across the state for violating environmental laws.

The markets include Sura, Itafaji, Oke-Odo, Sangrouse, Bariga, Ajah Ultra-Modern, Agbalaka, Aiyetoro, Sabo and Ita-elewa in Ikorodu.

Adejare said the markets would be shut if the traders failed to comply with relevant laws regarding sanitation.

Egyptians Hurl Insults At Lionel Messi For Donating Boots To Be Auctioned For Charity

Featured Image

A charitable gesture by world’s most famous footballer, Lionel Messi has provoked monumental outrage in Egypt, as a lawmaker and football official took umbrage at the Argentine donating his football boots.

This is coming only few weeks after the Argentine was widely praised for making a young fan’s dream come true when he sent a shirt and a football to an Afghan boy.

The backlash and controversy that trailed Messi’s boots benevolence may not be unconnected to the significance of shoes in Arab culture. Considered one of the lowliest of items, because it literally touches the ground, many Egyptians find it a dirty and inappropriate as a gift.

During a TV interview with the “Yes I am Famous” show, broadcast on MBC’s Misr Channel, the Argentine footballer told the presenter he would like to donate his football boots to be auctioned off for charity.

“One of the things he does is give charity all over the world and these will be among the donations he gives,” Egyptian presenter Mona El-Sharkawy says as she sits across from the celebrity with the red and white boots held up to the camera.

“And he gave these to our program because we will start an auction for them. Messi, Thank you very very much.”

What Messi seems to have failed to appreciate is that in Egypt and other Arab countries in the region, shoes can be used as a symbol of disrespect or insult. So some Egyptians took offence and turned to social media to express their anger.

“We (Egyptians) have never been so humiliated during our seven thousand years of civilization,” Said Hasasin, a controversial parliament member and TV presenter responded during his program Sunday, “I will hit you with the shoes, Messi,” he said, as he held up his own shoes, and mockingly said he would donate his leather lace-ups to Argentina.

“This is an insult to Egyptian people,” he elaborated, thumping his fist on his desk.

An Egyptian MP offered Messi his shoes in return. BBC

An Egyptian MP offered Messi a pair of his shoes in return. BBC

Even Egypt’s Football Association spokesman Azmy Megahed chimed in on the issue, saying:

“Our poor don’t need him. Shoes work for him…I am confused, if he intends to humiliate us, then I say he better put these shoes on his head and on the heads of the people supporting him. Give your shoes to your country, Argentina is full of poverty.”

The affront was so great that El-Sharkawy had to defend her program publicly on Monday by arguing that donations were not necessarily intended for Egypt’s poor.

“Messi did not even mention Egypt and I did not say the proceeds would go to Egypt,” the anchor said in what appeared to be an attempt to recall the scandal, “I am so surprised that people are accusing us of things that weren’t even said.”

Alex Ferguson Considering Old Trafford Return

Featured Image

A major shock to the world of football and cause for joy for all Manchester United fans out there, as Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he’ll be coming out of retirement.

The legendary manager called time on his managerial career in 2013, winning Manchester United’s 20th EPL before leaving.

David Moyes went on as his replacement and did a shabby job of it, with Van Gaal taking over from him.

With United in danger of missing out on UCL qualification, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided it is time to save a club he loves.

“I have been idle for too long and can’t take it anymore. No one seems to know how to manage my club, they take over and ruin all my hard work with their ineptitude

“I have decided to fix that, by returning to Old Trafford and taking back what belongs to me. We can qualify for the UCL and I intend to return the prestige United has lost”

In his outrage and diatribe, Ferguson went on to call David Moyes and Van Gaal names, we would rather not type.

Before we forget, HAPPY APRIL 1ST.

“Of course, Juventus will want to keep him,”But sometimes you can get to a transfer fee that you can rebuild an entire team and he would get to that fee.

“At his age, you can build a team around him for the next years. If he does decide to leave, then I think it will be for a world record.”

Slaven Bilic : “Dimitri Payet Can Attract More World Class Players To West Ham

Featured Image

Slaven Bilic believes Dimitri Payet’s recent international success could help West Ham attract more big names this summer.

“Maybe some of the French players or press who knew how good he was were thinking, ‘That is it, no chance with the national team or anything’,” said Bilic, speaking about Payet’s move to West Ham last year.

image

“‘OK you are going to be living in London at a good club and make good money, and that is it.’ But Payet has raised his game by playing for West Ham and that can change things.

“Because of him and because of more players, they should think now that if they are going to West Ham it is a step up in their career if anything.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Considering Moving To Arsenal

Borussia Dortmund attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is considering whether to move to Arsenal or extend his contract with the Bundesliga club, according to The Guardian.

The Armenia international has been the subject of several Arsenal scouting missions, and The Guardian claim he’s “torn” between renewing at Dortmund and testing himself at the Emirates Stadium.

Juventus could be contenders too, though, and his agent Mino Raiola said yesterday: “Mkhitaryan? I know that [Massimiliano] Allegri likes him. And he would happily wear the Bianconeri shirt, but needs to make a deal with [Thomas] Tuchel.

“It’s true that his contract expires in 2017, but the Dortmund coach deems him indispensable”

Wenger: Leicester Can Still Lose The EPL Title

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger is not ready to give up on winning the EPL title, saying a slip up is possible for Leicester.

Arsenal are 11 points behind league leaders, Leicester City, who are five points clear of second placed Tottenham.

Wenger’s men face Watford this weekend, with Leicester taking on Southampton.

And Wenger hopes to put pressure on a Leicester squad that has little collective experience of competing at the top of the table.

“Leicester at the moment are in a very strong position, but they can still lose it,” Wenger told a news conference.

“But we have to perform. Our job is to perform until the last day of the season, so let’s perform. The target is to win our remaining [eight] games. Let’s be pragmatic. It starts on Saturday.

“Finishing on 79 points could be enough, but it depends on the results of Leicester. Nobody knows how they will respond in their last games.

“I don’t know how many teams are still in the title race. Everybody doubts Arsenal’s chances, so for the teams behind us it’s even more difficult.

“Seasons like this could be more of a norm because all English clubs have fantastic financial potential.”
