Guillem Balague : “David De Gea Would Not Force Move Away From Manchester United”

Featured Image

Guillem Balague does not believe David de Gea would speak out about Louis van Gaal in a bid to force a transfer away from Manchester United.

It has been claimed in the press that the goalkeeper would be prepared to leave Old Trafford if Van Gaal was kept on as manager.

But Spanish football expert Balague told Sky Sports News HQ:

“It sounds so un-De Gea like, for a player to put a manager in that kind of position. And especially when now that we are all hearing that the club want Van Gaal to stay for now.

“Of course it would be a way to force his [De Gea’s] way out for sure. But De Gea would not do that.”

He has a number of Premier League-based suitors – Chelsea have reportedly lined him up as a possible replacement for Diego Costa.

However, the Argentina international, whose buyout clause is set at €94m, could look to stay in Naples.

Hull City Manager Steve Bruce Putting His Future On Hold

Featured Image

Steve Bruce says he will not be discussing his future with Hull’s owners until the season is over.

Hull entertain Derby on Tuesday in the second leg of the semi-final play-off holding a 3-0 advantage from the first game.

As for his own job, and his future meeting with the club’s owners, Bruce said: “I haven’t really looked at my position at all.

“Last year we got relegated and I offered my resignation to the board and they asked me to carry on. I will have a conversation with the owners in a couple of weeks’ time regardless of what division we are in.

“I haven’t really given myself any real thought of what lies ahead because you can’t in management any more unless you are in the elite.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has announced that it would on Wednesday, mobilise members of its union to embark on strike and mass action to force the Federal Government to revert the pump price from N145 to N86.50.

This is contained in a letter dispatched to members of the congress nationwide by the National President of the Union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, and read at the University of Ibadan Chapter on Tuesday by its Chairman, Dr Deji Omole.

The recent development is coming barely hours after the National Industrial Court (NIC) had passed a judgment, preventing the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on a nationwide industrial action billed for tomorrow.

READ ALSO: Fuel Subsidy Removal: NLC Vows To Shut Down Economy Over Petrol Price Increment

The letter made it clear that the union would mobilise members to get ready for mass resistance to what they called the obnoxious and callous policy of fuel price increment.

The letter read: “Increase in Pump price of Premium Motor Spirit to N145 per litre: Proposal for Joint Action with NLC stated that ASUU members are called upon to according to our Union’s principles, fully respect Article 2 of the Constitution of ASUU; that our Union and members shall work for the protection and advancement of the socio-economic interests of the nation. Branch Chairpersons are to conduct emergency congress meetings on Tuesday 17 May 2016 to mobilise our members for the action commencing on Wednesday. All branches of ASUU nationwide are to comply”

Ogunyemi anchored the position on “delayed, partially paid and in most cases unpaid salaries for a number of months by state, federal and local governments, disguised retrenchment of workers, especially by State Governments, in the name of verification exercise and endless hunt for ghost workers and heavy taxation”.

Omole equally stated that the policy of subsidy removal was the most criminal ambush from the Mohammadu Buhari-led federal government to empower the rich and cripple the poor.

NLC Planned Strike Suffers Major Setback As Industrial Court Intervenes

On Saturday, the NLC and TUC had jointly issued a statement at the end of an emergency meeting, in which they vowed to embark on a nationwide industrial action should the federal government refuse to reverse the sudden hike in the price of fuel.

However, in a ruling on Tuesday, the NIC President, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, restrained the labour unions from going on strike, pending the determination of a suit the federal government lodged before it.

According to Adejumo, “the defendants are hereby restrained from carrying out the threat contained in their communique issued on May 14th pending the hearing and determination of the ‎motion on notice filed on May 16.

“It is the order of this court that status quo be maintained as at 17th May‎.”

He also directed the government to engage in productive dialogue with the NLC towards creating an amicable resolution of their dispute and adjourned the case to May 24 for a hearing of the motion on notice.

“It is the order of this court that non of the parties shall engage in any act, conduct, overtly, covertly on this matter pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice,” Justice Adejumo also held.

He added: ”I decided to take this case this morning because it is on an issue that will affect everybody. I don’t want people to be subjected to hardship. There will be scarcity of foods, people may die, students will engage in all sorts of activities. This is why I have to grant this order.”

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, had filed an ex-parte application.

It was gathered that the AGF approached the NIC, praying that it restrained the labor unions from shutting down the nation, backing it on section 14 of the 1999 Constitution.

He further argued that the balance of convenient was in favour of the government.

60 Persons Killed In Benue As Governor Ortom Raises Alarm On Fulani Invasion

Featured Image

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has openly lamented the incessant attacks and killings in ‘soft targeted’ communities of the State by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.

This is just as the governor stated that the State was under siege, following Friday’s attack on Tarfi village, Binnev Ward in Buruku Local Government area of the state by marauders, that left about 60 persons dead.

READ ALSO: Scores Dead As Fulani Herdsmen Invade Enugu Communities

Governor Ortom also said, “after committing the atrocities, they sacked the locals from their abode after which they occupied the ‘captured territory’.”

His words: “It is a bad situation, everyday you hear how my people are being killed, raped and maimed by these mercenaries. They do not have respect for the rule of law or security personnel. The situation has gotten to a point where if we contain the crisis in one community, they move quickly to another to massacre the people just like the Buruku case where over 60 innocent persons have been killed.

“These are wicked mercenaries under the guise of herdsmen attacking us and taking over our farmland. I have said it several times that we do not have land for grazing in the state, let them move out of the state if they cannot respect the rule of law and the sanctity of human lives.

“There is a limit to which I can appeal to my people to restrain themselves from reprisal attacks, if all of them are killed then I might be the next target. I will have to represent the matter to the President because we are helpless and if nothing urgent is done we might have a major crisis in our hands.”

Speaking on the allegations that the crisis was sparked by rustlers in the affected communities, Ortom said, “those behind cow rustling are the herdsmen themselves because they are the only ones that speak the language that cows understand. For instance, even at my village in Gums they claimed that my people rustled their cows and they went ahead to kill 50 of my people and took over the land. This is genocide. Enough of these killings.”

In a related development, the Delta State High Court in Asaba has sentenced two herdsmen – Hassan Abidu and Yakubu Salem – to 20 years in jail with hard labour.

The Guardian reports that the suspects were members of a group of armed nomads terrorising indigenes of Ibusa and its environs in Oshimili North Local Council of the state.

At the trial on Monday, the presiding judge (name withheld) found the two nomads guilty on a two-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms preferred against them by the state Attorney-General, punishable under Section 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R.II, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010.

The duo were each sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

“I am repeating it, no producer must deal with her again. Any producer that doesn’t heed the warning will find him or herself to blame. It’s not a threat, it’s a promise.”

Husseini said, “Our film makers only need to pay attention to details especially in the technical areas. We have the stories already especially film makers producing films in African languages.

Truth is we can only compete at the Oscars with our indigenous language films and to do this we must improve on our photography, sound, editing and other technical areas. Our people need to improve on sub-titling of our films.”

Countries like Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Burkina Faso have their movies in high demand for the awards in the acting category, as well as, movies such as Fifty, Dry, The Cursed One, Eye of the Storm, Ayanda, La Pagne, Tell me Sweet Something and Behind Closed Doors battling for the prestigious Best Director’s Category.

Agent: No Offer From United For Ibrahimovic

Featured Image

Mino Raiola has moved swiftly to deny talk of United making enquiries about Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Reports, originating from France, suggests the EPL club has made an offer for the Sweden international, which his agent has vehemently opposed.

“In this world we have to accept some journalists use their imagination and make things up,” Raiola told Sky Sports.

Ibrahimovic says he already knows where his next destination will be after making his final appearance for PSG – a 4-0 win over Nantes on Saturday in which he scored a brace.

Edinson Cavani Keen On Joining Atletico Madrid

Featured Image

PSG striker Edinson Cavani would be “delighted” to join Atletico Madrid, according to his Uruguay team-mate Diego Godin.

Edinson Cavani has frequently been linked with a move away from PSG during his time at the Ligue 1 champions, with the striker reportedly unhappy at having to play out wide to accommodate the departing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He is on the radar of a number of English clubs but Atletico Madrid defender Godin believes the former Napoli man is keen to join him in the Spanish capital.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Godin said: “He loves Atletico for the way they play and he would be delighted to come [here]. I have called him several times [to tell him] to come to Atletico.”
