#UCLFinal: Ronaldo Scores In Final, As Madrid Claim 11th Trophy

Featured Image

Man of the moment is Cristiano Ronaldo as he helped Real Madrid to their 11th UCL trophy after scoring the deciding penalty.

It was a feisty encounter between the bitter rivals from Spain, that saw some physical challenges in every half.

It might have been a repeat of the 2014 encounter, but Atletico matched, eventual winners, Real Madrid.

Ramos opened the scoring in the first half, after Bale headed Kroos’ delivery into the six-yard box.

Antoine Griezmann was unbelievably sub par, and that was evident as he missed a chance to put his team back into the game with a penalty goal. Only for the crossbar to deny his attempts.

The second half saw Diego Simeone inject Carrasco into the mix, with the Portuguese midfielder notching in the equaliser that saw the match go into extra time.

Ronaldo played through injury and did not have any major effect for the whole 120 minutes of regular play. Missing out on the shot at being the first player to score in three finals.

The penalty shoot out, was fun to watch, with Jan Oblak staying rooted to the ground for most of the shots played, he will be kicking himself.

Juanfran was the only play who failed to score, with the upright coming to Ospina’s rescue.

It was down to Ronaldo to deliver the UCL for the Los Blancos, and he made no mistake from the spot.

Zidane has now joined a league of elite managers, who have won the UCL trophy both as a player and a coach.

Jonathan’s Administration Is The Most Corrupt In World History, Says Gbajabiamila

Featured Image

Majority Leader of the House Of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has on Friday described the height of corruption under the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan as unprecedented in the history of the world.

Gbajabiamila made this disclosure known while speaking at the Town Hall Meeting he organised to give account of his stewardship to his constituents in Surulere, Lagos.

He explained that although President Muhammadu Buhari had an idea of how bad things were, he never expected to meet that “kind of rot”, as the previous administration did so

The lawmaker said: “Things are very difficult in Nigeria today; we must acknowledge that. The question we need to ask ourselves is why? And the answer is very simple. When this government came into power, we knew the situation was bad, we knew the previous government did so much damage to the economy, but, we did not know how bad,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“It was when this government got there that they saw the books and they found that everything was empty. Apart from the falling oil revenue, we have read in the papers how people are being tried for looting the country`s treasury; how people were putting billions meant for terror war in their pockets.

“The kind of rot, the kind of corruption Buhari met is unprecedented anywhere in the world. Had the president not taken some of the measures he is taking now, the system would have collapsed completely.”

The lawmaker also justified the recent hike in the price of petrol, saying it was the best for the country at this critical point in time.

Who Is Afraid Of Femi Fani-Kayode? – Jude Ndukwe

Featured Image

The current travails of Femi Fani-Kayode in the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had long been expected. In fact, with the developments leading to his arrest, Fani-Kayode thinks the EFCC came too late. This is because owing to the current administration’s aversion for criticism, even of the slightest and lightest type, Femi Fani-Kayode knew, with his relentless criticism of the Buhari administration for its gross inadequacies and obvious crass incompetence leading to a near-total absence of the security of lives and property, and the irredeemable erosion of our socio-political and economic life, he had put himself in the line of fire.

The views and opinions expressed here are those of Jude Ndukwe and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Since the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2015 presidential polls, Fani-Kayode has carved a niche for himself as one who is among the very few who are looking Buhari in the eyeball and telling him to shape up – a thing the president obviously detests.

From the vengeful incarceration of Sambo Dasuki to the vindictive detention of Nnamdi Kanu, Fani-Kayode has made himself a voice for the voiceless and victims of executive over-reach. His essays and commentary on the incessant and unchecked invasion of communities in the North-Central, the South-Eastern, the South-Southern and South-Western states respectively by the marauding Fulani herdsmen was a nightmare to Aso Rock and all the sympathisers of the Fulani herdsmen militia, which is rated the fourth most dangerous terrorist group in the world. That rating was not for nothing, yet our federal government is still to take any decisive action against them!

Despite the open support shown by some powerful and well connected Northern leaders to the killer Fulani herdsmen, Femi Fani-Kayode was not cowed and continued criticising the mishandling of the crisis loudly.

He rose stoutly against the controversial religious bill introduced in Kaduna and which Northern governors plan to adopt across board. He spoke out against President Buhari’s continued lopsided appointments in favour of the North against the South. He expressed genuine fears and called the attention of the world to the deliberate policy of Islamisation going on in Nigeria.

He condemned the use of security agencies to intimidate, harass, incarcerate, torture and kill citizens wantonly just for political reasons. He stood above others in his condemnation of the Shiite massacre, the needless killings of innocent, harmless and armless members of IPOB/MASSOB at Aba and Onitsha, among others.

The social media was one of his most effective tools. He was always on Twitter and Facebook, making his opinions known without fear or favour. His positions on matters generate a lot of interests among Nigerians and have the immense capacity to shape perceptions, enlighten the ill-informed, illuminate the darkened mind, lighten a burdened conscience, free the mentally enslaved and singularly redirect a national discourse.

That is how powerful the former minister of Aviation’s writings are that his traducers in Aso Rock started seeing him as one that must be taken out of circulation.

In the days leading to his being invited by the EFCC, some top government officials and sympathisers of the current administration had approached Femi Fani-Kayode telling him he had become a target of government because of his writings which the authorities view as being caustic and too critical. His phones would ring endlessly from officials who would advise him to desist from writing or speaking against the policies and actions of government in his “own interest”. Series of meetings with him were called by these government agents, mostly at odd hours where they pushed their agenda to have him keep quiet or face retribution from government. They would remind him of how unpleasant the consequences of his arrest would be to his family and the stress it would bring to them, especially his four-month old baby, all in a bid to have him back down on the struggle.

Fani-Kayode would return home at times with heavy burdens, thinking of what to do next. He would ask, “Do I abandon the struggle and watch people suffer, women raped, children killed, communities devastated by Fulani herdsmen, and say or do nothing about it? Do I stand and watch as security agents murder innocent Nigerians in cold blood in their hundreds with reckless abandon and not say anything? Do I stand and just watch as the federal government works assiduously to promote one religion over the other in a multi-religious and multi cultural society like ours? Do I sit and watch as Nigerians are indiscriminately locked away and humiliated by state agents just because they belong to another political divide or because they criticise government policies? Do I sit and watch how the judiciary is being intimidated, harassed and lampooned just because they choose to be on the side of law and not politics in the discharge of their duties? Do I abandon the struggle simply because of the threat of harassment, humiliation and torture?”

“Who stands for the people if everyone is cowed? Who speaks truth to power if everyone recoils into their shells?”

After these questions, Fani-Kayode usually decides that the way to go is not to be intimidated or betray the trust of the people but to keep looking tyranny in the face and speak fearlessly to power in order to save our people and country from the stranglehold of one man.

So, when the EFCC finally invited him, it was not a surprise to many who are abreast of happenings around the former minister of Aviation. In fact, it was considered an invitation that came too late, considering the barrage of pressure mounted on him to soft pedal on his criticism of government. One was therefore not surprised at the over-zealousness and flagrant display of naked power by the EFCC operatives when they came for FFK, as he is fondly called.

First, on Friday, May 6, operatives came to his residence to leave a letter from the anti-graft agency inviting him to their office the following Monday being May 9th. However, to prove that they were on a mission of vindictiveness and vendetta, they returned about two hours later that same Friday with a detachment of heavily armed policemen, a coaster bus and a Toyota Hilux vehicle, brandishing weapons in commando style and laid siege to his house for about six hours before leaving empty-handed, saying they had instructions to whisk him away.

He eventually honoured the invitation as scheduled and after holding him beyond the constitutional time of 48 hours allowed to detain anyone, the EFCC told Fani-Kayode’s family members and lawyers that they had obtained a remand warrant from an Abuja court to hold him for another two weeks, even though they did not show anyone a copy of such warrant. Shortly after then, nearing the expiration of the purported remand warrant, they whisked him to Lagos where they also applied to keep him in detention for another thirty days, even though the magistrate eventually granted them a remand warrant for three weeks.

This was after the EFCC had been served a court notice for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights in Federal High Court, Abuja; and then for the EFCC to have taken the same matter to a magistrate court amounts to the abuse of court processes. But in the current administration, it seems our constitution has been suspended and the rule of force elevated above the rule of law. All these show that it is not about corruption but all about silencing the opposition.

As Femi Fani-Kayode remains detained even after meeting his bail conditions, it is obvious that its going to be a long walk to freedom. Freedom, not necessarily for him as a person, for he has always told those close to him that enslavement is a thing of the mind: there are many who are walking free but are slaves, while there are many more who are in chains but are actually free in conscience. But the freedom he yearns for is freedom for Nigerians; freedom for that man who was allegedly shot six times and humiliatingly wheeled in a barrow while his members were killed in their hundreds, simply because he belongs to a different sect of Islam. Freedom for that woman who was callously raped right before her helpless husband by Fulani herdsmen who seem to enjoy the protection of their political kith and kin in high places. Freedom for that innocent child who was wickedly snatched away from his mother while he suckled and had his throat slashed by the bloody swords of the Fulani militias. Freedom for those whose farmlands are destroyed and whose lands are forcefully occupied while the murdered owners are forced to bury themselves in the sands watered by the blood of kinsmen mowed down by mindless cattle rearers. Freedom for those who have been incarcerated for so long despite court orders granting them bails and are in chains for expressing themselves and associating with fellow Nigerians etc.

Fani-Kayode believes that he is a free man once these ones are free, even if he is in chains. He believes he is a free man once those murdered can find their voices in his, even if he is incarcerated. To this extent, he is unruffled.

This is just to let the world know that the war against the Ife-born Chief is not about corruption but about the deliberate and calculated agenda to silence members of the opposition, while the sinister motives and the incompetence of this administration that are fast plunging our dear nation into a state of anarchy and anomie go applauded by sycophants and unchallenged by critics. It is an ignoble fight against the voice of good conscience wrapped in the smokescreen of a fight against corruption.

Nigerians must speak out louder than they are doing now. Things must not be allowed to get worse than they currently are. All of us have the responsibility to defend the oppressed and help entrench democratic principles in our country. If these executive acts of despotism are allowed to fester, everyone would be in the danger of being silenced, sometimes through the use of “extreme measures” as Fani-Kayode was once told. The time to act is now. It is Femi Fani-Kayode today, whose turn will it be tomorrow? Nigerians arise!

Low Uncertain About Schweinsteiger Return For Euro 2016

Featured Image

Joachim Low has revealed there is no timetable on Schweinsteiger’s return to fitness.

The United midfielder made the provisional squad for the euro 2016, despite making just 6 appearances in 2016 for United.

And Low is hoping the veteran midfielder will be back to full fitness and make the 23-man-squad needed.

But while centre-back Mats Hummels is progressing well following a calf problem, Low concedes that Schweinsteiger’s return is more difficult to predict.

“With Hummels, it’s clear when he comes back. Certainly he will need a few more days,” he said ahead of the friendly with Slovakia in Augsburg on Sunday. “With Bastian Schweinsteiger, we don’t know when he will be back in training with the team.”

Low confirmed that a number of first-team stars will be rested for Sunday’s game, with some – including Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil – left out of the travelling party altogether.

It is said that Yinusa, who is currently cooling off at the Okaka Medium Security Prisons, due to his inability to meet the conditions attached to his bail, broke into smiles, when he was told that Ese had given birth to a baby girl.

Sources, who broke the news, confirmed that the 18-year-old was elated over the news, and he immediately said he was going to name her Fatima, a name borne by the daughter of Prophet Muahammed, The Sun reports.

“Yinusa has been told about the birth of a baby girl by Ese Oruru. He was called from Kano and told that he has a daughter after the Internet pictures were confirmed to be true. He was very elated over the news and he immediately gave her the name Fatima after the daughter of Prophet Mohammed and because of the circumstances surrounding the birth of the girl, which he believes is divine. The name Fatima is the personification of high virtues and purity. As I talk to you, I can tell you that he is eagerly waiting to see the daughter,” a source said.

However, when contacted, the father of Ese, Mr. Charles Oruru, said he is yet to give a name to his granddaughter.

Mr Oruru explained that the family is financially helpless to run any naming ceremony in line with the tradition.

He also stated that he is not interested if Yinusa was aware of the birth of the baby, adding that the family is willing to forgive Yinusa if he shows remorse for his mistakes in abducting Ese to Kano.

His words: “I don’t want to know if he has been told about the birth of the girl and has given her a name. All I know is that I am yet to give her a name. We don’t have money, so we are not thinking of a naming ceremony. As I said before, we are grateful to God that she delivered  safely. As for Yinusa he has not realized his mistakes for him to show remorse. He has to apologise for the whole world to hear before we would now talk of forgiveness because the case is beyond us now, the whole world is aware”

Featured Image

As President Muhammadu Buhari clocks a year in office on Sunday, May 29, 2016, the presidency decided to list ‘75 achievements’ he made as the supreme ruler of Nigeria in the last 365 days.

READ ALSO: FG Declares May 30 As Public Holiday

The list as issued by the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday night read:

  • The relocation of the Nigerian Military Command Centre to Maiduguri, since May 2015, contributed to the success in the fight against insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country.
  • As at February 2016, the total number of persons rescued by the Nigerian troops during the ongoing operations in the North East came to 11,595
  • Since December 2015, the well-motivated and rejuvenated Nigerian Military have regained all Nigerian territories previously under Boko Haram control.
  • Prioritized regional cooperation in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and violent extremism, through the operations of the 8,500 strong Multi-National Joint Task Force in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, currently headed by a Nigeria military general.
  • Nigeria has provided $21million USD to the Task Force since June 2015 and is committed to an additional $79 million USD, bringing the total of Nigeria’s commitment to the Task Force to 100 million USD.
  • Cohesive international support in the fight against terrorism and assistance to victims and communities affected by terrorism, following President Buhari’s meeting with G7 leaders and other world powers.
  • In May 2016, Nigeria hosted a Regional Security Summit to boost military operations against Boko Haram and forge a global support for the rehabilitation of the IDPs and rebuilding of the North East.
  • In June 2015, the United States announced a 5-million-dollar support for the fight against the terrorists in the sub-region.
  • In April 2016, during the visit to Ms Samantha Power, the U.S Ambassador to the UN to Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, the U.S Government further announced an additional $40 million USD for humanitarian assistance in the sub-region
  • Recruitment of additional 10,000 persons into the Nigeria Police Force is ongoing. The recruitment will address the manpower gap which currently exists in the Nigeria Police
  • Overhaul of the dysfunctional topmost hierarchy of the Nigerian military which resulted in optimal result and degradation of the Boko Haram elements.
  • Was able to bring back our hitherto military allies; which saw the United States and UK governments commit their resources to the fight against the insurgents after previously backing out of negotiations with the previous administration. The Israeli government has also indicated interest in the fight against insurgency.
  • Introduction of the motor cycle battalion (This is so that the Nigerian Army can travel to remote areas that were not accessible to cars/trucks)
  • Realigned our partnership with regional allies by embarking on foreign visits which resulted in bilateral and multilateral agreements to tackle insecurity back home.
  • No more roadblocks and curfews, which normally impeded free flow of movement.
  • Continuous monitoring of activities in the region of war through the use of satellite images and geographical information system is helping in fighting insurgency and strategizing against the enemy.
  • The trips to our neighbouring countries showed the resolve of the President to push Boko Haram elements out of existence by going for the jugular of the group, cutting their arms, food supply routes. Support has thus been mobilized through the Multinational Joint Task Force.
  • Another major stride is the Trans National Organized Crime (TNOC) where the president got partnership with regional allies in the fight against the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
  • As part of the reconfigured military partnership, the United States donated 24 mine-resistant armoured vehicles (MRAP) which had protected the Nigerian troops from the menace of Improvised Explosive Devices. Today we have less causalities.
  • Reached out to the G7 countries and achieved the following: intelligence sharing; technical military training; arms deals/donations
  • Overhauling of NIMASA. A reversed policy of the past administration where national infrastructural assets were given to militia leaders to protect as against established bodies like the Nigerian Navy was stopped.
  • The President Buhari government has drafted the army to partner with other security agencies in ensuring the security of our national infrastructure and this is already yielding the desired results.
  • A major ring of pipeline vandals in Lagos state were captured recently in a joint operation by security forces led by the army.
  • The government has renewed its fight against oil bunkering
  • The Nigerian Navy has recorded tremendous success lately in apprehending vessels used by oil thieves. This operation has improved security on our water ways and it has also helped improve the revenue of government.
  • Deployment of sophisticated weapons to ensure vandalism is contained by setting up a pipeline security force in stamping out the menace.
  • Effective Management of the Separatist Biafran Movement
  • Improving the technical capacity of Nigerian Police Force. We now have a forensic lab and GSM tracking device. We now have a more IT integrated Police force.
  • Restructuring of Nigerian Immigration to stop cross border crimes.
  • NSCDC has become more proactive in the prevention of pipeline vandalization, with arrest of several pipeline vandals.
  • Joint operations involving various security outfits in curbing the menace of the herdsmen in the country has been set up.
  • The use of surveys and updated mappings across the country as strategies for preventing threats among ethnic groups in Nigeria.

  • Right from the moment he won the Presidential Election in 2015, the impression of the President as a ‘‘no nonsense and incorruptible leader’’ sent a signal to looters of public funds, with many of them returning funds that had been stolen under the previous administration.
  • To create a frame work for prosecuting the war against corruption and institutionalize probity, President Buhari set up an Advisory Committee on War Against Corruption.
  • The anti-corruption battle is gaining ground with several high profile cases already in the courts. The administration is being guided by the rule of law in the prosecution of corruption cases.
  • President Buhari enlisted the support of multilateral institutions like the World Bank and IMF, security agencies, Western countries and other friendly nations to locate and repatriate stolen assets.
  • At a London summit on anti-corruption, President Buhari announced that Nigeria will begin the full implementation of the principles of the OPEN contracting data standards.
  • In the first quarter of 2016, President Buhari embarked on trips to the Middle East to sensitize the governments on the need to repatriate stolen assets and hand over the looters for trial in Nigeria. In January, Nigeria and UAE signed Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters.
  • In March 2016, the Federal Government and the Swiss Government signed a Letter of Intent On the Restitution of Illegally-Acquired Assets forfeited in Switzerland. Under the agreement, Switzerland will repatriate $ 321 million USD illicitly acquired by the Gen. Sani Abacha family.
  • In March 2016, the Presidential Committee set up to probe contracts awarded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2011 to 2015 announced the recovery of over N7 billion from indicted companies and individuals.

  • Implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has provided greater visibility of government revenues and cash flows. Between June 2015 and April 2016, the Federal Government TSA collection clocked N3trillion.
  • To further instill fiscal discipline, President Buhari directed the closure of all multiple accounts in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, thereby plugging loopholes for leakages with new technology.
  • The opaque accounting structure of the NNPC has been reconstructed to be more transparent with the closure of more than 40 accounts. As a corporate entity, NNPC is now accountable and more transparent in operations, publishing its monthly financial reports.
  • The President also resolved the lingering shadowy oil swap deals that had cost the country billions of dollars and left it at the mercy of a few rich Nigerians.
  • To alleviate the suffering of Nigerians in September 2015, President Buhari directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to disburse N689.5 billion as bailout to 27 states of the federation to pay salaries.
  • To stimulate the economy and reduce poverty, in April, 2016, President Buhari approved deferment in the payment of the bailout as states were still reeling under the burden of the fall in commodity prices.
  • Records of more than 34,000 ghost workers draining the nation’s resources were expunged from the Federal Civil Service, saving N2.29 billion monthly.
  • In 2015, President Buhari ruled out the appointment of a government delegation for pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. By this decision, the government saved about one million U.S dollars and N30m of local expenses
  • Enforcement of the Bank Verification Number: Also the BVN has ensured that the menace of “ghost workers” are being identified and dealt with, while looters with multiple accounts can no longer hide their loot undetected.
  • Social Protection: Groundwork for social intervention/palliatives for the poor is being put in place as data is being collated by the economic planning office of the VP in conjunction with the World Bank.

Rummenigge Rules Out Real Madrid Move For Lewandowski

Featured Image

Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has denied talk of Robert Lewandowski leaving the club for Real Madrid.

The former Dortmund man has been continually linked with a move to Spain since joining Bayern Munich, but nothing concrete has surfaced.

Bayern chairman Rummenigge has moved swiftly to state Bayern’s prized asset is not for sale under any circumstances.

“One thing I know for sure. Lewandowski will play at Bayern Munich in the next season. No one must make thoughts about that,” he told Kicker.

“The decision is like: We will not give Robert Lewandowski to another club, no matter what they will offer to us. We have no breaking point at Robert.”

Lewandowski has come off the back of a season in which he netted 30 goals in 32 league outings, firing Bayern to a fourth-straight Bundesliga title and claiming the top scorer crown in the process.

Bale: We Must Utilise Every Opportunity We Get Against Atletico

Featured Image

Gareth Bale has stated Real Madrid will take their chances, when they face rivals Atletico in the UCL final.

This is the second time in three years, the club will face each other, the Wales international was on the scoreesheet in the 4-1 thumping of Atletico two seasons ago after extra time.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone said Madrid may play on the counter-attack, but the Wales international said that all depended on their rivals.

“That depends how they set up,” Bale told The Guardian.

“Games against Atletico are always very physical. They’re very defensive and make it very difficult to break them down.

“It is about taking our opportunities because they’re not going to give us a lot. If they attack us, we can defend and hit on the counter; if they don’t attack, we can’t counter.

“But we have a few game plans. We can keep the ball, counter-attack, defend. When the game comes, plans sometimes go out of the window, though.”

Bale said the experience in Lisbon had made him far more settled heading into the 2016 decider.

“I feel more relaxed. I suppose you’ve had the experience so you know what to expect,” he said.

“Last time I was nervous but now I feel like I know how to deal with it. Hopefully that can improve my performance.”

Marcelo: The Little Things Will Decide UCL Final

Featured Image

Real Madrid defender, Marcelo believes the small details will be the defining in the final of the UCL later today.

In a repeat of the 2014 UCL final, Real Madrid will be hoping to repeat the 4-1 scoreline and see off city rivals.

And Marcelo is sure his side will leave no stone unturned as he knows the finer points could prove decisive.

“We’re feeling as good as we could,” he said. “We’re ready, prepared and I think we’ll fair quite well.

“I think in a final what decides the game is the small details and we’re thinking of all those. Everyone wants to win, you need to work and run a lot and I think the small details are what’s going to make a difference.”

Marcelo came on as a substitute and scored Madrid’s third goal in the final victory two years ago and he still revels in the memory of that occasion.

“It’s impossible not to think of that game. It was very special,” the 28-year-old added. “I personally believe that it’s in the past, it’s over now and it’s another final.

“[On Saturday] we have a chance to live a great day for us, but in order to do that we need to fight because it’s the Champions League final and it’s always very difficult to win.”

Zidane declared Ronaldo, who needs two more goals to break his own record of 17 in one Champions League campaign, to be “100 per cent fit” for the match in Milan.

But that wasn’t the only thing shady as Beyonce also had a plump whole lemon on the case of her phone.  That’s too much shade for one night!

West Ham Looking To Sign A “World Class” Striker

West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan says signing a “top striker” is the main priority this summer.

The Hammers saw a bid rejected for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and have also been linked with Liverpool’s Christian Benteke.

“We know that we need a top striker which is the hardest thing to sign,” Sullivan told the club website. “We need a 20-goal-a-season striker and that will cost us £25m or £30million. That is where the bulk of the money goes.

“We also need the occasional long shot which is the cheaper player that may come good. We want to sign more players.”
