Ogoniland Clean Up, Niger Delta Avengers And The Rest Of Us – Uche Igwe

Featured Image

Tomorrow June 2nd, President Muhammadu Buhari will be in Bodo, Ogoniland to officially kick off the environmental clean-up of oil polluted sites in the Niger Delta region. This is consistent with the recommendation of an assessment conducted by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).

The views and opinions expressed here are those of Uche Igwe and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

That visit will lay to rest speculations about whether the Nigerian president will fulfil the promise he made to Ogoni people during his campaign visit to Bori, the headquarters of Ogoniland. The timing and political symbolism of the visit are multidimensional. After one year of Buhari’s administration, part of the criticism is that he has paid insufficient attention to some parts of the country that did not vote substantially for him. Although as an individual, I have always argued against such prevailing but misleading narrative, I hope this visit will help challenge this. No one part of the country contributed more to Buhari’s victory than the other. That is a fact. The block votes from Northern Nigeria and the resistance against rigging mounted by the opposition leaders in the Southern Nigeria contributed equally to the defeat of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in 2015.

One important takeaway from the last election is that no one part of the country can make it to the Presidency until it learns to carry other sections along. I am sure the president knows this but anyone who is still in doubt should look at the numbers from the results of that Presidential elections in 2011 and 2015 and make comparisons. That is why I will remain grateful to President Buhari and Niger Delta leaders like immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe for their roles in making the clean-up happen. It is important that all citizens partake in the dividends of democracy. The UNEP Report we celebrate today is a product of the foresight of some people. We must put on record that as governor of Rivers State, it was Amaechi who insisted that the UNEP investigators should be provided community access to do their work and gave them adequate security throughout their stay. His role exemplifies the level of progress that is possible in the region when there is positive vision, selfless sacrifice and enduring political will. Those who understand the history of the agitations of marginalisation in the region will appreciate that the damage that arose from the ecological footprints of oil exploration originally defined what will later be known as the struggle. Therefore, anyone (like Buhari and Amaechi) associated with remedial measures on the Niger Delta environment should be given their right places in the annals of history.

We know that the situation is now slightly different and more complicated. We know that what started as an environmental struggle has now been hijacked, commercialised and criminalised. Many young people have taken to arms to advance their own interpretation of the struggle – no matter how delusional. It is now a full-fledged conflict economy with sophisticated and well-resourced networks. Their sponsors and patrons are merchants of instability in our midst who use violence as their own bargaining chip for access to power and the powerful. Today, whatever remains of the Niger Delta struggle leaves more questions than answers. It is often said that the struggle is about the ordinary Niger Delta citizen. However, since the struggle started, no one has ever bothered to do an honest cost-benefit analysis and stock taking. Is the average Niger Delta citizen better off now than before the struggle? Is the environment of the region more polluted now or then? Are the communities not more fragmented, dislocated, devastated and more desolate than ever before?

We must note that President Buhari is visiting the delta at an interesting time when another amorphous group known as the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is on rampage. In the last few weeks, this group has continuously and successfully gone on the offensive, destroying many strategic oil installations in the region. I have checked their shabby website in search of their purpose without success. So what or who are they avenging against? At least one of their demands include the cleaning up of the region. We all know that this could be a mere smokescreen masking their real intentions, however it will useful to see if the meeting of one of their demands through the clean-up will force them to any form of ceasefire or dialogue.

Many observers insist that the so called avengers may be a political response to the defeat of the former President Jonathan in the last elections. The Avengers pointed implicitly to the detention of some of the former president’s allies as part of their grievances. No one will deny that the signs have been there. So why will anyone defeated take to arms? When shall our politicians learn to be magnanimous in defeat and reorganise for the future? Where is the politics of ethnic-based instability leading this country to? What is surprising is that the government in power could not engage them early before they went ballistic with their reprehensible vengeful mission. I am more interested in the response of government than the predictable rantings of the avengers. I hate to suggest that these renegades need to be engaged before they bring our economy to a halt. The Niger Delta region is too strategic to be overtaken by violence again. The avengers should be told that contracts, cash and temporary appeasement cannot lead to sustainable solution to the problems of the region.

Yet I must highlight the complacency, myopia or collusion of our leaders for what has become of this blessed but impoverished region. For too long they have refused to speak with one voice or be on the same page with one another. They are the ones whose hypocritical silence created the space for the avengers to thrive and have a voice. I do not know who these delinquents speak for but they at least do not speak for me. Sometimes I try to imagine that the agitations of violent militant groups are simply reflections of the anger of exclusion by the elite – business and political. I may be wrong but it is always the elite and community support – however covert – that sustain these hostilities and you can take this to the bank.

Many of these people pretend to be less concerned, at least publicly, while offering their full sympathies privately. Typical of Nigeria, our ethnic affiliations continuously blur our sense of objectivity. There are others whose business interests are enhanced by insecurity and one can imagine where their loyalties will lie. The issue such as the fate of the Maritime University in Okerenikoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom readily comes to mind – a project that was derailed because 13 billion naira of public funds were squandered in acquiring the land alone. Such amount of money could have been used to completely build and equip a brand new university. No one has been courageous enough to question how such a humongous amount of money disappeared or call corruption by its name because they do not want to offend an individual. Why have the avengers not directed their rage at the individual who sold a land at 13 billion naira? Why the selective vengeance?

What about those who parade themselves around that they have relationships with these clandestine groups? They assert an imaginary patent of constant access and capacity to call the ‘boys’ to order any time. It is a sort of meal ticket. If they knew as much as they claim, how come the problem of purposeless agitation has not been completely solved over the years. These claims have often turned out to be false and misleading, and they further expose the kind of divisive and opportunistic thinking that has taken root among the Niger Delta elite. For them, it is an entitlement mentality, making bogus but unsubstantiated claims of territorialism and creating a living out of it that matters. In many ways they pretend to be part of the solution but indeed they are part of the problem.

My counsel is that the Niger Delta Avengers should leverage on the President’s visit to drop their guns and embrace dialogue. Taking arms against the state is a suicide mission that leads to unintended consequences that inflict indelible damage on communities. They should watch how Boko Haram was degraded from one of the deadliest terror organisations in the world to one on the verge of extinction. If the avengers claim to be protecting the Niger Delta interest, they should start by adopting a method that will lead to progress beyond economic tokenism. Finally, I know President Buhari is committed to cleaning up the region but that promise in my view does not include the spillages that occur through the sabotage of oil installations. It is the wish of optimists that someday when the clean-up is completed oil dries up, the people of the delta can at least return to their traditional occupations of farming and fishing. These avengers and their collaborators who keep blowing up oil installations for short term benefits will endanger such aspiration. They may have themselves to blame if at the end the day the aims of this expensive clean-up are not realised. For the sake of long term sustenance of livelihoods in the region, it is time for these avengers and their sponsors to apply caution and allow wisdom to prevail.

Jay Z Talks About Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ In New Track ‘Drug Dealers Anonymous’

Jay Z has been caught referencing Beyonce’s line off her ‘Lemonade’ album in a new single with Pusha T titled, ‘Drug Dealers Anonymous’.

Pusha T released the song Tuesday, (May, 31), the last day of the month after sharing an Instagram announcement of the first single from the highly anticipated album, ‘King Push’.

The Bronx-born rapper got Jay Z to drop a verse or two on the new track and Hova used the line in his bars.

Jay Z rapped, “I’m a course of miracles with this shit / Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists”, that lyric was borrowed off the track “All Night” from the Lemonade album.

In her version of “All Night” Bey sang about her impregnable relationship with a man – suspected to be Jay Z.

Genius reported that this particular line delved deeper, “The line is actually a reference to the book A Course in Miracles, which is a favorite of Jay and Bey’s and may have been part of their spiritual development over the past few years.

According to the annotation, “The books is a popular text in ‘spiritual psychotherapy,’ an approach to psychology that focuses on the spiritual side of an individual to aid recovery.”

Jay Z also used another Lemonade reference saying, “You know you made it when the fact your marriage made it is worth millions. Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is, survival of the illest.”

In 2015, Jay Z used the ‘Nothing Real’ line after his music distribution service, Tidal garnered its first million subscribers.

The Carters seem to love this line a lot, is there more to the words than meets the eye?

Zidane Would Love To See Pogba At Madrid, But Still Unsure Of Morata Return

Featured Image

Zinedine Zidane insists any club will be looking to sign Paul Pogba, with rumours linking him with Real Madrid.

The France international joined the Old Lady in 2012 from Manchester United and has been an integral part of the club, winning four straight Scudetti.

Madrid president, Florentino Perez, has stated the club will like to acquire the midfielder, should be become available.

And former Juve midfielder Zidane is in no doubt that Pogba would be a suitable player for the club from the Spanish capital.

“He is a great player, every team would want to have him,” Zidane said in Turin.

“But he is a Juventus player and we have to respect that.”

Another Juve player to be linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu is former Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The European champions included a buy-back option when selling the Spain international in 2014, but Zidane is unsure if a transfer will take place in the coming months.

“He has grown a lot in Italy,” he said. “I don’t know what will happen, but he did very well at Juventus.

“It is normal that they still want to keep him for another year, so we will see what happens.

“It’s not the time to talk about it yet.”

Hodgson: Rashford Got Drinkwater’s Spot

Featured Image

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed, Marcus Rashford got Danny Drinkwater’s spot, as he is opting for an attack minded set up.

Rashford scored on his debut for England in the 2-1 win over Australia, is one of five strikers that will be on the trip to France.

Former England international, Alan Shearer accused the manager of favouring reputation over form, with Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere getting picked ahead of the Leicester City midfielder, despite injury problems.

But Hodgson explained his rationale at a media conference on Wednesday.

“He was a tough one to leave out,” Hodgson said of Drinkwater.

“As far as we are concerned if you look back over the two years we have been working together, Danny was very much the last man in, in that respect.

“It simply became a question of do I take the extra attacker or midfielder? That’s how Rashford came about. He’s had that fantastic end to the season and it will be very interesting to see in a squad of 23 whether he can bring those qualities at a higher level.

“It certainly was never going to be ‘if we put Rashford in for this game and he does well, we’ll take him’. For us it’s always been the balance of the squad rather than X v Y who play in the same position.

“The balance is good, if anything tilted towards an offensive approach. We believe defending is very much a team job and we can’t just rely on a back four and a goalkeeper.

“We need great mobility and great running power to defend in that way. With this squad they’ve got the ability to give us that. Often in a tournament the players that get injured or suffer a lack of form are the guys at the cutting edge, the guys who make the difference or score the goals.

“I’m comfortable that, whatever way we want to play, we’ll be covered. Systems win you nothing. Football players win you games.”

Herrera Expected Van Gaal Sacking

Featured Image

Manchester United midfielder, Ander Herrera has stated he was not surprised to see Van Gaal sacked.

Herrera was signed by Van Gaal, and has made over 70 appearances for the club, but will have to impress incoming manager, Jose Mourinho, who took over from the Dutchman.

According to Herrera, the players were aware of the speculation surrounding Van Gaal in his final months on the job, as they finished fifth following a difficult campaign, but Herrera has praised the way his former manager conducted himself.

“It wasn’t a comfortable time, but we are professionals, and so we didn’t allow it to distract us,” Herrera told Marca.

“I must say that the coach remained strong throughout. He never showed signs of surrender and, in the end, we won the FA Cup.

“Van Gaal is an honest guy and has always put Manchester United above all else.”

He added: “Nothing surprises you in football today.

“United have to fight for every title and, when they lose that fight, this is one of the outcomes.

“In many ways I think he has done a good job.

“I’m grateful to him because he signed me and so gave me the opportunity to play more than 70 games, in two years, at arguably the world’s largest club.”

Herrera is now looking forward to the challenge of impressing Mourinho, who has signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

“I’ve had great coaches: Marcelino, with whom I made my debut; [Javier] Aguirre, [Marcelo] Bielsa [and Ernesto] Valverde; who taught me how to handle the locker room and is a fantastic guy,” Herrera said.

“Then came Van Gaal and ‘Mou’ now, who is the most successful coach, alongside Pep Guardiola.

“He has won the league in four countries, the Champions League with Inter and Porto and led Chelsea to become champions twice.

“So for me this is a unique opportunity that will push me to the maximum.”

Buratai had said: “They have been attacking our troop locations, killing our soldiers. We will not tolerate them. We will deal with them according to the law. We will look for them wherever they are, they are not agitating for anything, and they are just into crime.

‘’Communities should be patriotic enough to expose these criminals. They have nothing to fear, they should help fish out these criminals killing our soldiers, and we will not tolerate that.”

However, in a swift rebuttal, the militants gave account of how the soldiers perished, in a series of tweets on Tuesday, May 31, 2015.

They said: ‘’The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General T. Y. Buratai, in his statement said NDA killed Nigeria soldiers, it is a big lie. Chief of Army Staff, we are not the ones killing your soldiers, stop lying.”

“The Chief of Army Staff deployed personnel to the creeks without amphibian training that led to the death of about 50 soldiers. If not for the help of local fishermen, the death rate would have been up to 100.

“He has been lying to his Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari that NDA are killing soldiers. This is our stand; we have not killed any soldier. If we do, we will claim responsibility because we take pride and responsibility in all we are doing. That is our code.

“Nigeria military also lied that NDA kill soldiers. We have not engaged in combat with them, but if they want us to kill them, let them come after us.”

Full Petition Against Skales Manager, Osagie by Baseline Music On N13.3 Million Fraud

Featured Image

Baseline Music in a lengthy petition dated May 19, 2016 and addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Zonal Command, Onikan, Lagos, claimed that Skales’ manager, Osagie committed fraud against the company with monies totalling N13,374,000.

The label claims that Skale’s manager has been receiving money without remitting to the Company account but been diverting it to her account claiming there is no money. The label even elaborated on how they set a trap for her to confirm their suspicion.

Here are the full details of the petition.

1. THEFT OF COMPANY MONIES EARNED BY SKALES FROM MARCH-APRIL 2016

The Company noticed that although Skales was listed as performing at various concerts, shows, tours and other events, none of the monies received from these events was remitted to the Company. In this regard, the Company invited Skales and his manager Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe to various meetings seeking an account and a reconciliation. At these meetings, both Skales and his manager Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe insisted that the events in question were not paid events and as such there were no monies to remit. These dubious activities continued for a period of 12 (twelve) months wherein the Company was fraudulently deprived of its legitimate earnings by the said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe as payments made for performances were paid directly into her account in violation of the procedure set up for payments at the beginning of the Contract. The Company in March of 2016 decided to catalogue some of the paid shows, performances, concerts and tours wherein Skales performed and the monies were fraudulently converted for personal use by the said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe.

Please find below a list of said performances which only covers the period from 3rd March 2016 to 1st May 2016.

3rd March, 2016- Malaysian private party- $6,000
8th April, 2016- MTN NOISELESS PARTY ENUGU- N750,000
16th April,2016- AFRICA NIGHT 2016 AFRO-FUSION AFFAIR UNIVERSITY OF ALBANNY- $6,000
1st May, 2016- Private event at Thisday Dome- N1,000,000
7th May, 2016- AFRICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL MOSCOW- $6,000

By the Company’s estimation, from the aforementioned events, Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe has fraudulently converted the sum of N7,474,000 from this brief period without accounting to the Company or making payments first into the Company’s accounts as stipulated in the Contract. This is without factoring all the other performances, tours and shows where no remittance was made from the period January 2015 to April 2016.

In order to properly document this fraud and catch Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe in the act of theft, the Company created an email address, and sent an email to Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe requesting the performance of Skales at an event in California on the 2nd June, 2016. In the email communication, Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe requested the sum of $5,000 (five thousand US dollars) for the performance as well as one business class ticket, one economy class ticket and two hotel rooms in a 4-star hotel. (please find enclosed here with the email communication between Skales and Femi George with respect to the said performance) On 18th May, 2016 the first tranche of $2,500 (two thousand five hundred US dollars) representing 50% (fifty percent) of the performance fee demanded by Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe was wired into the following account:

‪Bank of America.
Name: Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe.
Account Number: 483063945907

Subsequent to the transfer of the money, our Samuel Gbemileke Samuel telephoned the said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe requesting for an account of all monies received by Skales for performances and tours for the month of May. Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe insisted that there had been no paid performances for Skales during the period in question.

2. THEFT OF THE SUM OF N5,000,000 (Five million naira) BEING PAYMENT FOR MTN PULSE

The Company in 2015 entered into an agreement with Upfront and Personal, for the engagement of Skales to appear in TV commercials, billboards websites and other social media on behalf of MTN Pulse. As per the terms of the agreement, Upfront and Personal was to pay to the Company the sum of N5,000,000 (five million naira) in two tranches of N2,500,000 (two million five hundred thousand naira each). The said Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe representing that she was authorized by the Company obtained the sum of N5,000,000 (five million naira) due to the Company without being so authorized. Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe has failed after repeated demands to repay the said N5,000,000 (five million naira) fraudulently obtained.

Given the above circumstances, the Company believes that a fraud has been committed against it by Teresa Osagioduwa Osarenkhoe.

Skales and Manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe Arrested By Police For Fraud

Featured Image

Baseline Music act, Skales and his talent manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe of M. et. al Ent were arrested and remanded in Police custody last night on allegations of fraud.

Osagie who is well known in the music industry and has also managed Wizkid, Aramide and other A-listers was accused of diverting funds belonging to Skales’ record label, Baseline Records for her personal use.

She confirmed her arrest via her Twitter handle but stated she was not detained.

Cool FM OAP, Freeze, however claims an inside source relayed to him that Skales and Osagie were indeed detained and remanded in Police Custody. He lambasted the duo on Instagram using them as an example to young artists.

Update on Skales and His Manager Osagie….. According to @wale_ewedemi an inside source for Baseline records, they have both been remanded in  Police Custody after confessing to various charges of fraud and diversion of Baseline Records funds They are currently assisting the Police in unraveling the extent of the fraud. Running into tens of millions of naira. At the inception of the contract, he was given a fully furnished luxury apartment in Lekki in a gated estate, with a brand new customized SUV. And a multimillion Naira sign on Fee. The record label also gave him a free hand to select and run his brand, supported by a multimillion naira corporate expense account. Skales behavior has reduced the appetite of the Record label to assist other young talents to achieve their full potential. **************************** @kaylahoniwo and I talked about this on @coolfmlagos today on the #RoadShow. Many of these artistes are from the hood. One small hit and they upgrade their transportation from Marwa and Molue to a 2006 Range Rover or G wagen with 2014 bodykit, then they upgrade their housing from mushin or Aj city to LEKKI phase one…. But the problem is they don't upgrade their minds!!! They do business with intelligent and witty entrepreneurs while using their 'Molue mentality', not realizing that a contract is a contract and GRA-GRA cannot break it! The other day DJ Zeez was asked to pay his record label N21m, then the vector issue, then Runtown was issued a court injunction restraining him from performing and now skales allegedly sleeping inside police cell!! Upcoming artistes abeg make una learn how to read book, no be everything be swag, no be everything be gra-gra! Please don't jump and sign your life away for a plate of porridge! UPGRADE YOUR MINDS!!!! Still trying to get Osagie and Skales for their own side of the story so expect more updates tomorrow…. In the meantime remember to read whatever u sign o! And make sure u have a good lawyer…..

Back in January, Diallo had burst into the Nigerian entertainment news scene after she claimed that Wizkid was the father of her newly born child.

Wizkid, who already has a 5-year old son, didn’t claim the child but that didn’t deter Diallo, who had gone ahead to name the child Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, Wizkid’s real name.

Wizkid however seems to have agreed to a paternity test, and the results are pretty straightforward. According to the results, the Amin singer “cannot be excluded as the biological father of the child” as the “probability of paternity is 99.99%”

Well then, congratulations are in order. Congrats, Wizkid!

The exclusive portraits which shows the Queen in the intimate, familiar setting of her home at Windsor Castle was captured by  by Vanity Fair contributing photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Little wonder why the 90-year-old royal choose to be photographed with her beloved dogs, it’s because they have been a part of her life since 1949, when she started a program of royal corgi breeding from her first puppy, Susan.

Speaking on her experience with the Queen, Annie said; “The most moving, important thing about this shoot is that these were all her ideas, She wanted to be photographed with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh; her daughter, Anne, the Princess Royal; and her corgis. I was told how relaxed she was at Windsor, and it was really true. You get the sense of how at peace she was with herself, and very much enthralled with her family.”

The quotes seemed completely innocent at first till she posted the third one, captioned it “Am all about child abuse for the last few weeks… And I realize that they are so many forms of it! Even as parent we do this without even knowing!!! Let’s love our children more than the situations!!! Shout out to all the separated parent /EX who don’t stress the other parent over seeing their own kid!!! God bless you.. Your reward is bigger and it is in heaven… #sayNo2Parentalalienation #saynotochildabuseforreal #loveyourkidsmore #whatGoneIsGone #letgo #livefree God bless u real big @s/o to @sunmbo great woman

@sunmbo is Sunmbo Adeoye, one of 2Face’s baby mama having two sons for him.

This seemed to be a shade at Pero Adeniyi, the other 2Face baby mama as she was left out of the shoutout. So her sister, Eniola Adeniyi, jumped into the fray in defense of her.

According to Eniola, Annie is jealous that 2Face ‘got away from her claws’ to throw a birthday party for his daughter with Pero. 2Face traveled to see his kids yesterday and this is supposedly his first visit to them in over two years. Eniola alleged that Annie harasses Pero with text messages anytime 2Face tries to make contact with their kids and wants to cut them off from him. That even 2Face has to hide to contact them in order not to face her anger.

Adam Johnson Is Coaching A Football Team Made Up Of Pedophiles And Perverts In Jail

Featured Image

Disgraced footballer, Adam Johnson has rounded up a special team of footballers while incarcerated and they include convicted pedophiles and perverts.

The former England winger was given the free rein to play football but it carried the clause of him coaching a side of sex offenders.

Adam Johnson, 28, is currently locked up on a segregated wing in Category C Moorland Prison, in Doncaster, South Yorks, where low-risk inmates are held and will be training fellow Category C convicts.

Johnson requested a Sunderland team shirt for his pedophile league to wear during games as the prison facility where he’s being held is equipped with a full-sized football pitch, among other facilities such as, a basketball, volleyball, badminton courts and a weight room.

It is unknown who will pay for the kit or whether his request will be granted.

A source told Daily Star, “Johnson is delighted to be playing football again, although he’s not that happy that his team is going to be made up of paedos and perverts. Football is his life. He has been told to get a team trained up ready to play against other wings in the prison.

Some of the matches will be a bit fruity because sex offenders are probably the most hated inmates in the prison. The team are training a couple of times week but he thinks they should be training every day.

Some of the lags in Moorland haven’t done any physical training in years, are overweight and smoking 20 a day, so he’ll have his work cut out. He’s already started doing some trials and the team should be playing next week.”

The former Sunderland star who earned £60,000, (N17,274,849) a week was given a six-year sentence at a Bradford Crown Court in March for grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a 15 year-old girl.

In April, Johnson was punched by a fellow inmate during a shower row after he told his counterpart, “f*** off, Do you know who I am?” when he was asked to remove a mass of matted hair from a shower plug-hole. Johnson denied the fight ever happened.
