Ramadan: NYSC, MCAN Agree To Make Orientation Stress-Free For Muslim Corpers

Featured Image

The authorities of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) and the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN) have agreed on modalities that would make the orientation course conducive for the 2016/17 Batch A Stream (II) prospective corps members who are Muslims.

The resolve became vital as the date scheduled for the orientation course falls during the Ramadan period.

The Director of the Muslim Rights Concern, (MURIC) had earlier today (Thursday) issued a statement, rejecting the June 13 fixed date by the NYSC, saying that the date coincided with Muslim corps members’ Ramadan fast.

The statement read: “It is illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional for NYSC to hold camp at a time when its Muslim members will be deprived of their freedom of worship and the liberty to practice their creed without fear.”

“This planned camp is exclusive, discriminatory and parochial.”

“Any Nigerian institution dealing with schedules and programmes particularly the NYSC whose programmes are of such magnitude is expected to consider the dates and periods of important festivals, rituals and religious practices. This should form the core of its logistics. It is our humble opinion that NYSC headquarters has failed in its strategic planning by allowing its next camp to clash with the Ramadan period.”

“What happened to 21st May, 2016 which was the date earlier picked for the orientation? We do not want to believe that the shift was deliberately planned to coincide with the Ramadan season with a view to excluding prospective Muslim corpers.”

However, at a meeting between the MCAN executives and the management of the NYSC, the Director General, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, said that the fixing of the orientation course during the Ramadan period was as a result of pressure from the would-be Corps members who argued that they had overstayed at home, The Eagle reports.

He also blamed the delayed disbursement of funds for the scheme as another reason the orientation course clashed with the Ramadan.

However, a statement by MCAN said the two teams have agreed on the modalities that would make it easy for Muslim Corps members to observe the Ramadan without too much hassles.

The statement on the outcome of the meeting read in part: “In fact, any muslim corps member who feels his fate cannot bear the camping environment as they are fasting should use the Masjid after they must have informed the MCAN Amir of their respective states.

“However, this has to be under a serious control system in order to prevent abuse of such opportunity.

“MCAN representatives who must have met with state coordinators will help in coming to a consensus with the state coordinator and camp commandant in regards to this.”

“Finally, inasmuch as the camping will be less demanding for those fasting and measures has been put in place to protect the spirituality of Muslims during this camp, WE PLEAD TO ALL MUSLIM CORPS MEMBERS NOT TO ABUSE THE PRIVILEGE and report anyone who might take advantage of such privilege to the right authorities.”

EU Extends Ban On ‘Dried’ Beans Import From Nigeria By 3 Years

Featured Image

The European Union (EU) has extended its ban on importation of dried beans from Nigeria by three years.

Speaking on the extended ban on Thursday, the Coordinating Director of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, Vincent Isegbe, said that extension came when the Federal Government and its relevant agencies were working to ensure that the June deadline to lift the ban was met.

The EU had banned importation of Nigeria’s dried beans in June 2015 on the ground that the produce contains high level of pesticide considered dangerous to human health.

It is said that the EU accused Nigeria of not doing enough to lift the ban during the period of suspension.

He said: “The continued presence of dichlorvos (pesticide) in dried beans imported from Nigeria and maximum residue levels of pesticides shows that compliance with food law requirement as regards pesticide residual cannot be achieved in the short term.”

“The duration of the importation prohibition should therefore be extended for an additional period of three years to allow Nigeria implement the appropriate risk-management measure and provide required guarantees.

“The measures provided for in this regulation are in accordance with the opinion of the standing committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed.”

ICYMI: Quique Sanchez Flores Named As Espanyol Boss

Quique Sanchez Flores has been appointed as manager of Espanyol on a three-year contract.

The former Watford boss was not retained at the EPL club, despite guiding them to a credible 13th place finish, after they were promoted from the championship.

He returns to Spain after previous spells with Getafe, Valencia and Atletico Madrid, with whom he won the Europa League in 2010.

“RCD Espanyol are proud to join a successful and renowned coach to lead the first team in this new project,” read the club’s statement announcing Flores’ arrival.

Espanyol finished 13th in La Liga, but only made sure of their safety from relegation on the final day of the season and subsequently parted company with boss Constantin Galca last month.

Arrest Jonathan Now And Declare A State Of Emergency – Frisky Larr

Featured Image
It would have been so easy if anger could solve problems. We would have chosen the path of the prophecy of the legendary Bob Marley of blessed memory. “A total destruction, the only solution.

This article was written by Frisky Larr. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

They aren’t no use, no one can stop them now!” Quite obviously, the civil war that seemed to have been avoided in March 2015 on the heels of former President Jonathan’s concession of defeat to retired General Muhammadu Buhari, is now looming large more than ever before. Who didn’t feel a chill up the spine when the carefully choreographed theatre of the absurd played out at the collation centre of election results on that fateful sunny day when ex-Minister Orubebe starred as the notorious bad boy and angel of doom? Who didn’t feel the eerie air of silence that seemed to have paralysed the nation in expectation of the second Act?

Again, who did not heave a sigh of relief when Goodluck Jonathan finally did the needful and called Muhammadu Buhari on telephone to concede the obvious defeat that was only waiting to be announced? Who?

Of what relevance is that today, though, in the face of dreadful realities portending danger and misery for the Niger Delta and the rest of the country?

Indeed, every fair-minded analyst knew what it meant for Nigeria when news broke out that former President Jonathan performed the historical act that was done before him only by Dimeji Bankole at a lower level, to concede electoral defeat and congratulate the rightful winner. We knew the pit of hell that Nigeria was rescued from and agreed that Jonathan deserved accolades.

Tragically too, we knew very many things that we did not want Jonathan to get away with. One generally known fact is that no nation on earth makes budgetary provisions for the re-election campaign of any political leader. Nigeria was no exception. Yet information dominated the airwaves of the free flow of hard currency for gratifications to mobilise support from all nooks and corners for Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election. Ridiculous pictures hit the airwaves, of an incumbent president kneeling and crawling for prayers before witches, pastors and imams. Millions of dollars were paid for spiritual salvation and physical manipulations.

Today, thanks to the dogged but expected efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, these issues are no longer speculations but common knowledge that will soon be widely validated by judicial pronouncements. Government and party officials, who knew so well that there was no budgetary allocation for the re-election campaign of the president are now trying in vain to feign ignorance of the source of the money that was disbursed to them to prosecute the president’s re-election campaign. The giver and the taker of stolen money are often considered trapped in the same cage in the spirit of the law. Ignorance is no excuse.

The same applies to a cousin or next-of-kin of the president, who is officially awarded a $40 million contract and is paid upfront in full for doing nothing.

A lot happened prior to the elections too. Sanusigate ended up in some Pricewater charade with whistleblowers rather than the perpetrators of crime being hunted beyond all bounds. The perpetrators revelled in triumph and emptiness, believing in the power of the highest political instance. The brigandage of an elitist clique called the shots in the land much to the amazement and fury of the discerning minds. A nation was simply bastardised by drinkers of liquor and many who should have known better.

No doubt that the anger was immense that Jonathan sought to paper-over with the virtue of conceding an electoral defeat that was not orchestrated to look as such. The sweetness of the moment was compounded by memories of the vicious rape committed on a single nation in the belief of raping the nation on a turn-by-turn basis and from region to region. Worse still, it was led by a man who, Nigerians erroneously believed, was blessed with the highest possible academic decoration as a symbol of intellectual superiority.

Now, we know that former President Jonathan is immensely constrained intellectually by virtue of his actions and omissions. Discerning Nigerians – not the half-educated and emotionally overwhelmed soldier-bees – had long come to terms with this reality and accepted that an internationally brokered soft-landing (even though only speculated) for the ex-president may be grudgingly accepted in the interest of peace. That much was the status quo until Sahara Reporters threw the bombshell. We will come to that later.

No one anticipated the enormity of the theft that the former president supervised until fingers started pointing at him repeatedly, as the legitimator of the loots that turned the Central Bank to a self-service snack bar. The deliberate weakening of the Nigerian Armed Forces through the free ride granted the Generals to loot the coffers blind was complemented by the suspected arming of rebel forces in the creeks with warships from Norway, as far as we know in public space. Former President Obasanjo worried aloud about fighters sponsored by President Jonathan, who were receiving military training overseas. His open letter claiming the stock-piling of weapons by Jonathan’s men is no secret to the nation. Today, some militants are boasting of missiles to strike the presidential palace.

It all started with the curious and sudden resurgence of secession agitation led by one pathetic but fully misguided agent of the invisible forces that was quickly tamed and quarantined by the forces of re-organised authority. Having been frustrated in that angle, the forces obviously regrouped and activated the alternative option of restarting the Niger Delta militancy, again, under the pretext of marginalisation.

They proceeded to launch treasonable sabotage attacks on the economic lifeline of the country and did not care that they were subjecting their region to the more serious collateral impact of environmental hardship. While speculations have been rife on the evil project being the brainchild of political sponsorship, no one saw the bombshell coming that indeed elected and trusted officers of state in charge of public funds would come anywhere near sympathising with the diabolical notion of the criminals in the creek.

Indeed, like me, many Nigerians are waiting and hoping they will wake up soon from a deep sleep and understand that the bombshell exploded by Sahara Reporters was just a dream after all.

The yet-unrefuted Sahara Reporters report contends that governors of the Niger Delta region with the exception of Cross-River and Edo State are presently in an open and brazen gang-up to kill the war against corruption as it affects their region by calling for the abandonment of corruption charges against politicians from their region. This is supposed to be in return for the cessation of pipeline-bombing hostilities. In this extremely outrageous ploy, it is yet unclear if they enlisted the support of the only government Minister so far perceived to be hardworking and productive, or if this Minister – himself from the region of the tamed trailblazing secessionist agitators – has been a part of the criminal design all along.

No surprise that the teeming majority of Nigerians who voted for a clean-up of the system to reset the button of decency, are now up in arms and extremely infuriated. The blackmail that was planned by these governors, who now stand under the serious suspicion of at best sympathising with the criminal activities of the Niger Delta militants or at worst, having sponsored them all along, seems predicated on the obnoxious thought to fall back upon, that the resources being from the Niger Delta justifies corruption by politicians from that same region. They, therefore, hold the belief that the state can be legitimately blackmailed in this respect.

Many have been wondering why former President Goodluck Jonathan in his abundance of wisdom has so far failed to speak up on the atrocious acts of his kinsmen. Now, there is a sense of knowing why it has been so. Yet, a more intelligent approach of openly disowning the rampaging criminals, whether he sponsors them quietly or not, would have been the least strategic move to expect. It is reminiscent of the game that he played in the run-up to the Presidential election of 2015. Even though all indications pointed to his re-election ambition and efforts, he kept mute on the issue for a very long time and even denied it outright when confronted directly. On one occasion, he was quoted as telling his predecessor, Olusegun Obasanjo that “I have never told anyone I wanted to run for re-election”.

With the bunch of pedestrian advisers surrounding him, he will, sooner or later, end up ostracising himself in the international community, where the same people who have been awarding him questionable democracy prizes will begin to question his integrity and the role he is playing in destabilising his country. Most pathetic of all is the lack of constructive remorse in the attitude of the former president under the evidential yoke of consuming vices. With evidence mounting by the day, of the unprecedented monumental scale of corruption directly coordinated by this former president, he still nurses the hope of bullying his way out of the stinking quagmire.

In his failure to learn from history, he is unable to see what his presidential bullying has turned his party (the PDP) into. He bullied his way into presidential candidacy in the spirit of ‘having it my way or the highway’. Denying his party, the option of a strategically more qualified candidate, he ran for re-election and lost woefully and today, his party is in tatters. Again, he is trying the same diabolical tactic using the Niger Delta as a springboard. His pawns are the ganja-smoking sons of Jah and militant-minded governors of Nyesom Wike quality that were foisted on us by allegedly compromised Supreme Court judges. In the end, all signs are pointing to the fact that the Niger Delta may as well be left in tatters like PDP as a historical presidential souvenir. If the meaning of “Goodluck” is to leave a trail of disaster wherever the former president goes, I will gleefully wish the Niger Delta good luck.

For now, though, the fury and outrage that the so-called governors of the South-South plus Ibe Kachikwu have triggered in the public should be encouraging enough for President Muhammadu Buhari to bring out the General in him pretty quickly in spite of age-induced frailty. Indeed, in the depth of my anger at this willful sabotage to spite the aspirations of a nation for good governance and a return to casual sanity, I would have advised the president to summon an emergency meeting of the Council of State to declare the urgent need to arrest former President Goodluck Jonathan there and there, declare a State of Emergency in the rebel states of the Niger Delta, arrest the governors and have them tried for treason, and declare an all-out war on the Niger Delta until the militants are wiped off the face of the earth.

Unfortunately, though, anger does not solve problems and innocent souls will bear the brunt. No matter what happens, this is a battle that Muhammadu Buhari must win by hook or by crook. By defiance and doggedness! Without surrendering, without retreating! No region in any nation is ever granted a free ride to corruption – golden egg or not. Nigeria will not be an exception.

Every well-meaning Nigerian will now be best advised to brace up for the impending revolution to topple the forces that will not let Nigeria be. At individual level and at the level of voluntary, non-governmental organisations, the time is fast approaching to seize the sceptre and grab the bull by the horn. Preparations should start here and now, to pick up the gauntlet and deny evil forces the taste of victory. Nigeria must survive and together, we will blow ‘em all up!

Reps Approve Bill Seeking Age Reduction For Presidential Candidate, Others To 30 Years

Featured Image

The House of Representatives at plenary has passed for second reading, a bill to reduce the age qualification to contest for the positions of President, Governor and Senator in the country to 30 years.

“A Bill for an Act to Alter Sections 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to reduce the Age Qualification for the Office of President, Governor and Membership of the Senate and House of Representatives, and for Other Related Matters” was sponsored by Tony Nwulu, representing Oshodi-Isolo 11 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The bill seeks to reduce the qualification for the office of president from age 40 to 30 years, office of governor from 35 to 30 years, the Senate from 35 to 30 years and the federal and state houses of assembly from 30 to 25 years, respectively.

The bill also seeks to allow independent candidacy into the country’s electoral process.

Nwulu in his submission described the process of electing candidates into political office as an important part of democratic practice.

He said: “countries like the United Kingdom parliament decided in 2006 to lower their age of candidacy from 21 to 18, which had existed since the Parliamentary Elections Act 1695. An age candidacy of 25 would encourage greater youth participation in politics.”

“This desire itself could be viewed as a sufficient warrant for young people to participate, demonstrate a willingness to engage and fulfill the burdens of office.”

On the Independent candidacy, he stressed the need to open up the space for lawmakers to come in as independent candidates.

He said: “It is pertinent now to amend the constitution to make room for independent candidates to widen the democratic processes in our elections, and above all to encourage our young ones to fully participate in all elective offices.”

Following a voice vote presided over by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the bill was referred to the ad hoc committee on Constitutional Review.

Tiwa Savage To Feature On E! VIP Mini-Documentary Series This Weekend

Tiwa Savage has been blazing with great achievements since her marriage went to pieces as it seems a couple of great lemonades must have been made out of that sour lemon.

The sultry star seems to be surpassing many achievements as she is the first Nigerian to be signed under Roc Nation as well as the first Nigerian to have her own docu-series on E!.

Tiwas Savage announced her excitement on Instagram with the caption, “I am so excited, HUGE platform. I watch E all the time and now I’ll be watching my own mini documentary … When God says YES nobody can say no 🙏🏿 E! VIP Airs on E! channel 124 on 12th June at 9pm CAT. ( this is 8 pm WAT)”

Meanwhile, it was earlier rumored about the sultry songstress getting on the Roc Nation label last month,  Tiwa Savage doused the flame of speculation after she shared an image of herself and Don Jazzy meeting with Jay Z at the Roc Nation office in New York.

Although details of the meet hasn’t been made public yet, sources close to the Mavin camp said the trio met to deliberate over the signing of a management and distribution deal for Tiwa Savage via Roc Nation’s mega-international platform.

In April 2015, the ever-cryptic Jay-Z shared on Twitter that his cousin had “just moved to Nigeria to discover new talent” and it seems Tiwa Savage got the nod.

Naira Weakens Further To 371 As Dollar Scarcity Persists

Featured Image

The naira weakened further to N371 to a dollar at the parallel market on Wednesday, as against the N361 to the United States dollar it closed on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

The local currency had fallen sharply from N350 to a dollar it closed the previous week to N357 to a dollar on Monday.

This is coming against the backdrop of increased delay mounted over the modalities for the proposed flexible exchange rate regime to be introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Foreign exchange dealers and investors said the delay had caused uncertainty in the foreign exchange market and fuelled hoarding of hard currencies.

According to foreign exchange dealers at black markets in Lagos, Abuja and major airports across the country, the dollar was sold for between 367 and 373 on Wednesday.

Findings from various operators revealed that the local currency went for 371 against the greenback in most of the parallel market locations.

However, the currency traded at 199.40 to the dollar on the official interbank market, within the CBN’s pegged rate band.

“Demand for the greenback has increased amidst growing scarcity as uncertainties created by the new policy have caused individuals to start to stock dollars,” the National President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, told Reuters on Wednesday.

He said: “This is of very serious concern to the state government. We have warned before the beginning of Ramadan that everyone should observe the tenets of his or her religion, but without forcing it on anyone or taking the law into their own hands.

“This is a case of which people have taken the law into their own hands and I have directed the commissioner of police to make sure that the boys that did this are arrested and prosecuted for what they have done”.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states, while reacting to the incident, expressed deep concern over religious extremism, saying that the situation needs serious consideration by government and stakeholders.

#Euro2016: “England Wrong To Call Up Rashford” Cole

Featured Image

England should not have named Rashford in the squad for Euro 2016, as the chances of him featuring are slim.

The 18-year-old Manchester United striker scored eight goals for his club after his debut in February, and scored three minutes into his debut for England against Australia last month.

But ex-United and England attacker Cole disagrees with the viewpoint that Rashford will benefit from the experience of being taken to France if he is not being used in matches by manager Roy Hodgson.

Asked if Rashford was being rushed, Cole told Omnisport: “Yes. I think Marcus has had a fantastic season but he gets in the Euros squad to sit on the bench or to sit in the stands.

“People say experience, but for me that’s not an experience to sit in the stands and watch the game. He can watch that at home on TV.

“If you’re going to be involved and play games then that’s experience. But when you look at it and Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge are all there, is he going to play in front of any of those guys? Most probably not.

“No doubt Marcus will say it’s a great experience to be involved at such a tender age, but you could look and say the same thing about Theo Walcott.

“He went at that age and his career has never really kicked on as a regular player in the national team for England.

“Hopefully Marcus will come back from that and crack on with next season with Manchester United.”

Rashford had scored twice on his first team debut for United in the Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland, and hasn’t stopped scoring.

“He’s been great,” Rooney said in an interview with thefa.com. “At the time he came into the team at United, we were going through a bit of a bad period and to come into the team and take to it like he did was incredible really. The manager kept faith in him so he kept his place in the team and showed what he could do.

Rashford did enough to impress England manager Roy Hodgson, securing a place in England’s 23-man squad for the Euros, and Rooney believes Rashford has to enjoy the occasion.

Rooney added: “Roy put him in the 26 and it was really down to Marcus then to show that he was capable of being in the 23, and he certainly did that after a couple of minutes, getting his first goal for England.

“I think the most important thing is to enjoy it because there’s not that pressure on you that maybe is on the lads who have to consistently perform. You’ve got that freedom to go and play, to enjoy it and have no fear.

“I always think that, for young lads, it’s probably better to leave them and not fill them with advice – you should do this, you should do that. Just let them go and play because that’s what’s got them to the position they’re in today.”

Pogba: ‘I Want To Become A Legend’

Featured Image

Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba who is heavily sought after has his sights set on becoming a legend.

The France international left Manchester United for the Serie A club in 2012, and has won four consecutive Scudetti.

However, he is not resting on his laurels, as he aims to win the Euros, the World Cup and the UCL and attaining legend status.

“I don’t think I am a great. I think I’ve done nothing. I’ve done nothing in soccer,” Pogba told ESPN as he prepares for Friday’s Euro 2016 curtain-raiser against Romania.

“I’ve won leagues, but I haven’t won the Champions League, the World Cup, the Euros. Winning the Euro in France, that wouldn’t be bad.

“That’s my strength [ambitions]. I want to work, to be a great, to win everything.”

When asked how he wanted to me remembered in 30 years, Pogba – who has been linked with a return to United while European champions Real Madrid are also reportedly interested – added: “By watching YouTube, like they do with Maradona and Pele.

“When I say I want to become a legend, some people say it’s pretentious. For me, it’s a challenge. My desire, a dream. I’m not saying I’ll get there, but it’s what I want.”

It’s Not Bra Force! Highschool Teen Stages Protest After School Forces Her To Wear A Bra

Featured Image

I’ve always wondered on the origins of brassieres as I really do not like to wear one myself but unlike this teenager, I didn’t protest.

Kaitlyn Juvik, a graduating student of Helena High School was called into her administrators office on May 25, just a week before graduating and was informed she was in violation of the school’s dress code for not wearing a bra.

After deciding that brassieres were too restrictive and uncomfortable, she stopped wearing one and had been attending classes without a bra for over a year though she was wearing nipple stickers beneath a dark and loose off-the-shoulder T-shirt on that particular day.

She told People, “I was told that a male teacher had complained he was uncomfortable because I wasn’t wearing a bra, and I was told to find something to cover up with. When I left the office, I was so upset that I posted a picture of what I was wearing on Facebook, telling everyone, ‘If any of you are curious, this is the shirt I was wearing when I was called out.’ I most definitely wasn’t wearing anything against the dress code.”

Kaitlyn posted what she was wearing

Kaitlyn posted what she was wearing

The 18-year-old who has graduated from the school became an internet sensation after one of her friends created the Facebook page “No Bra, No Problem,” to support Kaitlyn and she was dubbed “Kaitlyn the Braless Warrior.”

On May 27, over three-hundred female students of Helena High protested by going braless to school and several male students also showed their support by wearing bras over their shirts.

Kaitlyn is now speaking up against the stereotype attached to women and bra-wearing.

She said, “Boys always get the excuse about their hormones, that ‘boys will be boys. but instead, perhaps people should start teaching boys not to sexualize women’s bodies. Wearing a bra is a personal choice. It’s my body. Why is it anybody else’s business whether I’m wearing a bra, especially when I’m covered up and dressed appropriately?”

A 17 male student, Samuel Tinsley, felt the urge to support Kaitlyn because, “Every male who is for equality and fighting for what is right should step out of the shadows. I thought that the administration falsely dress-coding her and telling her to cover up was an inappropriate and immature request. because the outfit was no problem. When I heard they were trying to impose on Kaitlyn’s self expression, it really irritated me. By making her change or go home to put on appropriate clothing, they’re basically saying that a boy’s education is more important than hers.”

On a real though, who created bras as I would love to ask them, “Please, why did you invent an item women would rather do without?” Maybe if there were no bras, women would love their breasts and all its natural glory whether saggy or perky without fear of being breast-shamed.
