The industrial action was issued in a statement signed by the acting president of the Association of Resident Doctors, Tunji Alaoye, and the chairman of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, Ekiti State, Folu Ekundare.

This is even as the medical practitioners, who are under the payroll of the Ekiti state government, demanded an improvement in medical facilities in their hospitals.

The statement read: “This is to notify the general public especially residents of Ekiti State and its immediate environs that rising from a joint emergency meeting of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, Ekiti State, branch(NAGGMDP))and the Association of Resident Doctors in Ekiti State Teaching Hospital held on the 14th of June 2016 at the NMA Doctors House along Ado-Iyin road to discuss issues bordering on the welfare of doctors working with the Ekiti state government(state specialist hospitals, general hospitals and the Ekiti state University teaching hospital) a painful, hard, unfortunate and difficult decision that could have been avoided if the necessary actions had been taken, was reached by our members.”

“All members of the above named associations, (NAGGMDP Ekiti State, and ARD EKSUTH) have resolved to embark on a total and indefinite strike action, starting from midnight on the 15th of June 2016.

“We implore the general public to bear with us as we assure you that we are always open to dialogue and negotiation.”

Several unions in the state including the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have been on strike for over three weeks for reasons of unpaid salaries.

But the government had a relief when health workers initially withdrew from the industrial action citing love for the citizenry and the hope that the government would consider paying their January salary from the last federal allocation.

Cuba Gooding Jr Says Acting As O.J Simpson In ‘American Crime Story’ Is His Darkest Role Ever

Featured Image

Cuba Gooding Jr has expressed deep feelings regarding the portrayal of his character as O.J Simpson on American Crime Story: The People Vs OJ Simpson, as he called it his darkest role ever.

cuba gooding jr

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gooding said Simpson’s character left an imprint on him.

“It took me a month and half to shake O.J. Simpson from my psyche,” Gooding said, “It really did, because it was the darkest role that I had ever done, and yet I still am proud of what I did even though I still feel the residual in my psyche.”

Gooding drew a correlation between an event that happened in his life which disturbingly mirrored that of O.J Simpson.

oj simpson

He narrated, “Friday after we wrapped filming, I got two tickets to see the Blackhawks in Chicago. Saturday, I went to my daughter’s dance recital, she’s 10, my wife and I — she didn’t have a ticket for me, so I got upset. I said, ‘Don’t think about her, just focus on Piper. It’s Piper’s day.”

The actor continued, “And then I watched, and then that night got on a plane to Chicago, and it hit me. The Saturday before the murders, O.J. went to his daughter’s dance recital, and went off — he was f—king furious that [Nicole Brown] didn’t have a seat for him. And that night the murders happened, he flew to Chicago.”

Gooding chopped it all down to great acting as actors get so involved in certain roles because they want to get the story right.

He said, “I think it’s because we as actors try to find an emotional truth to the character in whatever situation we put him in.”

In acting, the complexity of a character sometimes can affect an individual personally where they are unable to isolate themselves from a role.

A good example is that of Heath Ledger who was unable to separate himself from The Joker character in The Dark Knight film.

WAEC Certificate Scandal: Nigerians React As Buhari Hires 15 SANs, 10 Lawyers To Defend Him

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari has employed the services of 13 Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and 10 other counsels to appeal the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja on May 26, 2016 dismissing his preliminary objection to a suit filed by an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe against him challenging the veracity of his WAEC result.

Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe had dragged Buhari before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the High Court, arguing that he did not meet the educational requirement to contest for the supreme position in Nigeria, This Day reports.

According to him, Buhari had lied about sitting for the Cambridge West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 in the build up to the presidential election which he eventually won.

At the hearing of the suit on May 26, Buhari through his counsel had raised an objection to the suit, challenging the mode of service of the originating summons on him and insisting that he ought to have been served at an address in Kaduna instead of by substituted means at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.

However, Justice Ademola, in his ruling, had held that it was incompetent and upheld the service of the originating court processes on Buhari.

The judge held that the service of the court’s processes on the president through the secretariat of the APC was in order as the court summons would get to him even though it was delivered at his party secretariat.

Dissatisfied with this ruling, Buhari through his legal team has filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division on seven grounds of appeal.

The lawyers who signed the President’s notice of appeal are Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Mr. Lateef O. Fagbemi (SAN), Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu (SAN), Kola Awodein (SAN), Prof. Taiwo Osipitan (SAN), Charles Edosomwan (SAN), Emeka Ngige (SAN), Femi Atoyebi (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Funke Aboyade (SAN), H.O. Afolabi (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), and 10 others.

In the meantime, quiet a number of Nigerian netizens have taken to social media to give their different opinions on the development.

#Euro2016: Mehmedi Scores Equaliser For Switzerland Against Romania

Featured Image

Admir Mehmedi played the hero for Switzerland has he grabbed the equaliser and a crucial one point, with the Swiss on the brink of qualification for the last 16.

The Swiss could have earned qualification, had they won against Romania, but Stancu sent in a penalty in the first half.

Mehmedi grabbed the equaliser in the second half, preventing Romania from recording just their second win at a European Championship.

Switzerland looked the more likely to win it from there, but failed to make their pressure count and will conclude their group campaign against hosts France.

Romania, meanwhile, will surely need a win in their match against underdogs Albania if they are to extend their tournament.

Vimbai Mutinhiri Talks Relationships, Star Gist, Feminism and More As She Covers Blanck Lite Magazine

Featured Image

Vimbai Mutinhiri is a Zimbabwean TV Presenter, actress and producer. She is giving major black girl magic on the cover of Blanck Lite Magazine.

Vimbai recently left her two of her major shows – Star gist and Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She gives an insight to her new projects, talks about her relationship status and a lot more in her interview with Blanck Lite Magazine.

She spots really chic hairstyles and a very interesting coat of many colors in the editorial shoot.

MagCover_Vimbai_2_360nobs

Read some excerpts form the magazine and more pictures below;

Ending “StarGist”: I will miss the StarGist show; it was such a major part of my life but I’m at peace that it’s ending, I think it’s had a great run. I came on board as a presenter, and grabbed the reigns when it we decided to relocate the show to Nigeria. After four years, I felt like the show was getting stale and I was actually getting bored with it; I needed a new challenge; I needed reinvention.

Moving “StarGist” production crew from South Africa to Nigeria: There is nothing easy about moving a production from one country to another, so it was definitely the biggest career challenge I ever faced and it came at the very start of my career as well. I had to overcome so many factors – from running a business with a million dollar turn over per annum in a new space, to making a daily entertainment news show produced in Nigeria and delivered to SA a viable production. I look back at it now and I can’t believe how I was able to lead the team to do the impossible.

MagCover_Vimbai_4_360nobs

On her next project: I have just finished producing my own reality travel series called Miss Vimbai Travels and it is a dream come true! I travel the world with my favourite celebs and try new things! My favourite cities currently are definitely Dar Es Salaam and Cape Town! They have the best food and fantastic beaches.

MagCover_Vimbai_9_360nobs

Keeping her life private and avoiding drama: I have made a choice to lead a very private life. I come from a very high profile family, and so I am aware that what I put out in the public will not only affect me – but it will affect their public images directly too. I’m human, I make mistakes and I get into trouble – but I have built a very tight knit circle around me and we manage things internally. I want to be known for my work, and my cricket gets that and respects it.

When asked to rate herself as a feminist on a scale of 1 to 10: I’d say a 7. I think that women have the same capabilities as men and don’t need to be treated specially or differently. We just need to know our position as women and claim it. Women’s Rights are wonderful, but I feel like we often fuel our inferiority. We need to talk less about claiming out rights and do more to foster the attitude that will get more women to go out and pursue what is rightfully theirs.

MagCover_Vimbai_11_360nobs

On her Relationship status: My man is in the public eye, and I adore him. He is my biggest fan and just wants me to be amazing! He is supportive and prayerful, and I am sure with time you will see us together publicly. That’s all I can say for now!”

MagCover_Vimbai_8_360nobs

Like Boko Haram, Like Avengers – Dele Agekameh

Featured Image

The Niger Delta region has been embroiled in fresh crisis in the past few weeks. It appears that what initially looked like the usual “shakara” (the late Afrobeat king, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s word for intimidation) embarked upon by some faceless but deadly militants in the region, is gradually snowballing into a major conflagration.

This article was written by Dele Agekameh. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

It all began in the month of April, 2016, when some desperate indigenes of the region under the aegis of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) started blowing up oil installations in both Delta and Bayelsa states, South-South, Nigeria. Recall that millitant activities in the region have been on for several years. During these years, the economy of the country, particularly the socio-economic activities of the Niger Delta region, almost came to a standstill.

This was the situation until 1999 when Nigeria returned to democratic rule after several years of military interregnum. Olusegun Obasanjo, who was sworn-in as president on May 29, 1999, attempted a solution to the endemic crisis by setting up an interventionist agency – the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) – to fast-track development in the nine states making up the region. The commission quickly swung into action and tension was reduced.

The late president, Umaru Yar’Adua who succeeded Obasanjo, mounted the saddle on May 29, 2007. One of the first things he did was to proclaim a amnesty programme for Niger Delta youths who, by that time, had been rampaging everywhere. As oil is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, Yar’Adua knew quite well that his government needed peace and tranquility in the country to enable him perform well as president rather than confront the “boys”, so he merely tamed them a while and later came up with his amnesty gambit. The amnesty programme was intended to disarm, demobilise and give the warring boys a sense of belonging by taking them off the streets or trenches and giving them adequate training to prepare them for a responsible life in the society.

The programme became an instant success. The millitants were taken off the streets and trenches, rehabilitated and catered for through training, both locally and outside the country. Many of the hitherto ‘bad boys’ willingly embraced the programme. Stipends were also paid to the beneficiaries of the programme scattered all over the place. Those who were selected for training, especially in several countries across the globe, came back full of gratitude for the country with a promise to live descent lives and refrain from bad behaviour henceforth.

Regrettably, Yar’Adua, the architect of the magic wand that cleared the boys off the creeks, suddenly succumbed to death. His deputy, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, himself a son-of-the–soil (he hails from Bayelsa State in the Niger Delta region) took over. Jonathan continued with his boss’ programme and pursued it with vigour because since he was from there, he surely knew where the shoe pinches. He knew the evil oil has caused his people (apology to Professor Steve Azaiki who titled one of his numerous books on the plight of the Niger Delta indigenes, The Evil of Oil).

But Jonathan soon introduced a novel but reckless innovation into the Niger Delta issue when his appointees started huge cash disbursement to the ex-Niger Delta militant leaders and their cronies. This was done under the guise of pipeline surveillance contracts. This was how Government Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo, one of the miscreants that had caused the government and security agents sleepless nights before the amnesty programme was initiated, became prominent. Not only did he become stupendously rich, he became a thin god and godfather to several old and upcoming politicians in the region.

By this time Tompolo was a regular face at Aso Rock presidential villa, even as he was consulted on many issues that had to do with the Niger Delta. His operational base in Okporoza, the headquarters of Gbaramatu kingdom in Delta State also became a Mecca of sorts where all manner of politicians flocked to, to be anointed by him or to be recommended for appointments. It was Tompolo that nominated Patrick Akpobolokemi, a former classroom teacher at the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, Bayelsa State, as Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

While all this was going on, all manners of people, especially former office holders from the Niger Delta region that could get the ears of the villa or that of Diezani Allison Madueke, the then petroleum minister and one of Jonathan’s highest cash dispensers, were swimming in money – hard currency. Each got a whopping sum of money every month as pipeline surveillance fees. They, in turn, had some other categories of boys working for them and they sustained them heavily from their monthly or quarterly financial windfalls. For instance, if the main man collected, say, five to 10 million dollars, he paid between five and ten percent out of this to the boys. The boys’ supervisors received a large chunk but the peanuts that trickled to the boys beneath was still mouth watering enough according to their levels.

One thing to note is that the pipeline surveillance contracts turned out to be a sort of bribe or financial inducement that the Jonathan government used to keep the militants in the Niger Delta at bay. Now that the largesse is no longer forthcoming, the boys have realised that the honeymoon is over, thus, they have gone back to the trenches to foment trouble. They must have acquired their arms and ammunition through their ill-gotten wealth. Even when they said they were monitoring pipelines, they were actively involved in smuggling crude oil out of the country or aiding and abetting the smuggling of the product. So they were making money from all directions.

Since they know all the creeks very well and by extention, the strategic oil installations in the region, therefore, sabotaging the flow of oil becomes an easy task for them. And the security agents posted there have always been sucked in by the oil barons who usually part with cartons or sacks of money in hard currency to them who, in turn, look the other way while these nefarious activities are going on.

This is the reason security agents struggle to be posted to the Niger Delta. They, in turn, make returns to their bosses back at the headquarters out of the heavy rewards provided to them by the barons for allowing an “enabling” environment to operate without hindrance. Occasionally, when you hear the news that barges carrying crude oil illegally are confiscated, it is a mere gimmick. What it simply means is that those involved did not give the security agents enough money to have a free way.

Taking a critical look at the Niger Delta conundrum, it is true that the area has been neglected for too long. The people there are suffering and living in excruciating poverty. But quite a negligible few they call their leaders, live in splendour and stupendous wealth. What is baffling is that this problem has been there for decades. Why are the Avengers just realising that they are being cheated? Before 1999, what was the standard of living of many of these ex-militant leaders now building universities and living in opulence all over the place? That is why people are saying that the Niger Delta Avengers is to Buhari’s presidency, what Boko Haram was to Jonathan’s presidency.

For justice and fairness, the so-called leaders in the Niger Delta, some of who are behind the Avengers, should share in the blame for the rot in the region. The reason is that they simply sold out. Let the Avengers start from their leaders who have all these years sold the Niger Delta people into slavery, before they start blaming the present government or any other person for their misfortune.

Pedro has stated he would like a return to Barcelona in the near future.

The Spanish midfielder joined Chelsea August 2015, and has stated he does not regret the move.

But it has since emerged that Pedro is pushing for a move back to Barcelona with the winger keen to retire with the Catalan giants.

“Hopefully [I can return to Barcelona], I know it’s difficult, I spoke with the president when we saw each other at the Cup final and I also spoke with all the people who love me there,” he told beIN Sports.

“It’s complicated, but I’ve always said I would like to retire at Barca.

“The years have passed and Barca have some of the best players in the world, it’s a very demanding club and coming back is complicated, but I can’t rule it out.

“I spent 11 or 12 years in Barcelona, my family are there and a lot of my friends, as well. The fans love me a lot, I felt valued by the club, and it’s always very tough to leave the club of your dreams.

“Ultimately, I had to make that decision because I saw that my chances had become exhausted.”

Saraki’s Trial Adjourned Again Over Fresh Motion Seeking Judge’s Disqualification

Featured Image

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja on Wednesday morning adjourned the trial of the Senate President of Nigeria, Bukola Abubakar Saraki, till June 21, after prosecution counsel failed to show up.

Saraki is being prosecuted by the Federal Government on 16 counts, including false and anticipatory asset declaration, which he allegedly made between 2003 and 2011 when he served as the Governor of Kwara State.

The Tribunal which had earlier fixed June 15 to hear the trial of Nigeria’s Senate President adjourned it following a fresh motion filed by Saraki seeking an order of the CCT disqualifying its Chairman, Danladi Umar, from further presiding over the case.

Saraki in his fresh application filed by his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), is accusing Umar of bias based on the remark made by the tribunal chairman at the last proceedings on June 7, 2016, while warning the defence against delay tactics.

Mr. Umar is being asked to step down from the case on allegations that he lacked moral standing to continue presiding over Mr. Saraki’s trial.

After much deliberation, the tribunal chairman fixed the hearing of the motion for June 21.

Djourou Backs Switzerland To Go Far In Euro

Featured Image

Johan Djourou believes his home country of Switzerland can go far in the Euro 2016.

The defender played the full match against Albania, as they earned a narrow 1-0 win, and he admitted emotions were running deep.

Both sides have a number of players with the other nation’s heritage, while the match also had brothers Granit and Taulant Xhaka facing each other for the first time in European Championship history.

“It was a very tough game”, Djourou told Goal on behalf of Meet A Star.

“We were playing against an aggressive team because we have so many players with Albanian roots in the team. It was a very emotional game – one where we had to keep our cool. We did that and managed to come out with the three points even though it wasn’t the best game.

“We knew the most important thing in the competition is to win the first game.”

Switzerland joined France by getting their Euro 2016 campaign off to the perfect start with victory in their first Group A clash and Djourou believes Switzerland have enough about them to go far in the tournament.

“We know that we have the quality,” he continued.” It’s important to start well in the competition and then march on. We have to be ready to get the three points in this game [against Romania on Wednesday] and then who knows how far we can go. The first test is over, we have to analyse. I believe we can go as far as possible.”

Granit Xhaka was named Man of the Match for the Swiss following their win over Albania and Djourou believes his fellow countryman has everything it takes to succeed at Arsenal and will thrive with the midfield competition ahead of him.

Proceeding the photograph, Mara Wilson wrote in a series of tweets, “I haven’t been to one since college, except once when a friend brought me along. I didn’t feel like I belonged there.”

“But the LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself.”

One fan asked her if she identified as a bisexual and Mara replied she saw herself as a ‘2’ on the Kinsey scale.

The Kinsey scale is the yardstick to know how gay a person is. It ranges from exclusively heterosexual (0) to exclusively homosexual (6). Two relates to being predominately heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual.

Wilson added, “I used to identify as mostly straight. I’ve embraced the Bi/Queer label lately.”
