Phelan: Hull Showed Character In Leicester Win

Featured Image

Mike Phelan, Hull City’s caretaker manager was impressed with the response from his side in the 2-1 win over Leicester, after losing their lead.

Diomande scored the opener for the tigers in spectacular fashion, only for Mahrez to score the equaliser from the spot in the second half.

Robert Snodgrass eventually secured the three points for Hull, who endured a turbulent pre-season ahead of Saturday’s game.

“I thought the players had it in them, we had to change a lot of things in order to get to this stage,” Phelan told Sky Sports. “It was fingers crossed to make sure we had enough players, but full credit to them.

“When we conceded the goal like we did after half-time you think the floodgates may open, but they carried on and showed great determination and character.

“You have to master the ball, play with confidence and play with character and courage. Everything came out, but it’s one game, roll on the next one.

“It’s not often in the Premier League you have a 0-0 game, you have to score goals, our guys have to learn and learn quickly, it’s difficult for them but they managed to keep going.”

Phelan was named as caretaker boss following Steve Bruce’s decision to step down, but it remains unclear whether he will remain in charge on a permanent basis.

“The situation has not changed. It may change, I don’t know,” he added.

“I was asked to take pre-season, I’ve done that, I was asked to take the game, I’ve done that. Now we are in to the politics, that’s for other people to decide.

“Players may want to come here now, performances changes things.”

Tuchel: Bayern A Step Up From Dortmund

Featured Image

Thomas Tuchel is insisting he does not hold any grudge against Mats Hummels leaving Dortmund for Bayern.

The former Dortmund defender will make his first return to the Signal Iduna Park on Sunday, when both clubs face each other in the DFL Supercup.

Tuchel, however, can understand Hummels’ reasons for leaving although he admitted it was a blow to his plans for this season.

“Mats has made the decision to join one of the best clubs in the world,” Tuchel said at a news conference.

“He has gone to a club that are actually a step up from Dortmund. But it is obviously very bitter that he has strengthened a direct rival by doing so. There is no doubt about that.

“It will be very hard to end Bayern’s dominance. They have not lost any key players and have strengthened even further with Mats.

“But we are in no way offended by his decision and are not holding it against him.”

Mario Gotze moved in the opposite direction, returning to Dortmund after a three-year spell with Bayern and Tuchel has urged the BVB fans to give the attacking midfielder a warm welcome.

“Mario is a Borussia Dortmund player and should be supported by our fans,” Tuchel added.

“I expect this to be the case on Sunday against Bayern as well.”

Season Predictions For The EPL 2016/17 Season

Featured Image

If you had read any sports betting sites review of last seasons English Barclays Premier League, they would have all said they same thing. No one had predicted that Leicester City would have been crowned the champions. It was one of the best seasons for surprises and if the 2016/17 follows suit, we are all in for a treat. It is the world’s toughest league and on their day anyone can beat anyone. It is why it is the most watched football league in the world. If you compare it to the Spanish League there are no comparisons. You are guaranteed either one of the teams from Madrid or Barcelona to win every single year.

On paper this season has all the ingredients to be the best. The two world’s best managers will compete head to head for the first time in the EPL. Jose Mourinho has a huge point to prove at Manchester United if he is to claim the title back from Pep Guardiola. The former also has it all to prove as now on his CV he has managed two teams that were almost guaranteed to win the title. With Manchester City, that is not the case and it will be exciting to see how he copes with the EPL demands.

After Chelsea’s unbelievably bad season, many sport betting sites review the team’s chances with the new the manager. It’s not great but currently the predictions are that they will do much better than last season. A manager with no experience in the league and a reputation of been tough with players, might affect negatively in the dressing room? They have the players to mount a serious challenge but do they have the tactics and desire?

Liverpool could be a surprise package this year due to Kloop being able to add his own players for the first time. With the added advantage of having half a season to start the process and being able to find out which players to keep and which to get rid of, if they start well they may be able to surprise everyone.

Arsenal should have been crowned champions last season according to many, it was theirs for the taking and they bottled it yet again !! If Wenger does not deliver this year it could well be his last as the fans at The Emirates are starting to loss patients.

Will Leicester City win it for a second year running. My answer to that is do pigs fly. It was a one-off and will not happen for a second year running. Like Chelsea the year before them, teams will have had time to work out the best way to beat them. Too many off their main star players have had their heads turned by offers and the main reason they won it last year was due to total focus on the job in hand from day one.

I think the winners for the EPL 2016/17 is going to be Tottenham Hotspur. They have bought perfectly over the summer and got their recruits in early. They now have a second world-class striker to back Harry Kane. Last year they were the youngest team in the league and with that experience plus the recruiters I believe the will be champions come the end of the season.

JAMB Talks Tough On ‘Written’ Post-UTME For Nigerian Universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that all universities in Nigeria have been barred from conducting written examinations before admitting students.

Speaking on Friday at an interview with pressmen shortly after a visit to the zonal office of the board in Benin, the Edo State capital, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, dismissed the speculation of a stalemate in the admission of fresh students into universities across the country.

Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State,  also clarified that JAMB as a body will not impose prospective students on universities.

This is just as he averred that issues over the admission of fresh students into tertiary institutions had been resolved, after due consultations with all stakeholders.

Oloyede said: ”I know many of you are bothered and you want to hear from me about the admission; there is no stalemate. After due consultation with the Senate, House of Representatives because we have been invited and they are worried, and after due consultation with all the regulatory agencies, National Board for Technical Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education, National Universities Commission and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board itself, we have resolved the matter totally.

“There is no ambiguity of what will happen. As it has been announced by the Minister for Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, there will be no written examination, no written Post-UTME examination by any institution.”

He stated that the managements of the universities were free to determine their respective admission policy, in line with the directive of the Federal Executive Council.

Oloyede, said: “Every other thing remains as it used to be because the authority, autonomy and independence of the academic boards of the Senate of the respective institutions remain sacrosanct.”

Nigeria: Demystifying The Word “Recession” And The Possible Ways Out Of It

Nigeria: Demystifying The Word “Recession” And The Possible Ways Out Of It – Adeniyi Bamgboye

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) recently reported that economic activities are fast declining which gave a confirmation to speculations that the nation’s economy has plunged into a state of economic recession. Some people may be hearing about the word “recession” for the first time. Well, the motive of this article is to give a succinct explanation to this word, its causes, effect and the best possible ways to get out of it.

This piece was written by Adeniyi Bamgboye Emmanuel. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Before giving an explanation of what recession means, it is very important to note that a market economy has two stages namely, the growing and declining market economy. There are also two factors of the market which consists of the demand and Supply.

A growing market economy experiences an upward spiral which includes an overall rise in stocks coupled with a staunch believe by investors that the trend will continue so; the value of stock continues to increase in the market. There is an increase in employment with a positive effect on the consumers’ ability to buy goods, producers tend to hire more people and consume more raw materials and consumers feel confident in future and growth of the economy so they have the laxity to buy more stuff.

READ ALSO: Lionel Messi’s Trial: It Is Time To Start “Padding” Our Tax Literary And Transparency

While a declining market economy is a direct contrast of a growing market economy. Here, a downward spiral is experienced through employed workers fear they will lose their jobs, so they spend less money. The stock market falls coupled with investor fear that value of stocks will decrease, so they are less willing to invest in new companies, consumption of raw materials by producers decrease in response reduced demand, consumers do not feel confident about the economy so they are very cautious of what they buy.

Back to the factors of market, an average producer wants the demand for his product to always be high while consumer wants the goods be purchased at a low cost. Usually, demand equals quantity but here demand equals price. This is so because price determines the quantity of sales which implies that in a competitive price there will be more demand while an uncompetitive price breeds less demand.

Recession then simply means the economy shrinking for two consecutive quarters (6 months) with a decrease in the Gross domestic product (GDP) which is the value of all the reported goods and services produced by the people operating in the country. A good GDP indicates a thriving economy. If GDP is growing, then market is growing due to increased demand. If recession continues for next quarter, (>6 months) then there will be a depression economy. Recession occurs when supply exceeds the nation’s ability to consume what has been produced. Supply is greater than Demand.

In Nigeria, the effect of this recession on the economy may even bit harder due to the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers. This is because the major source of government’s revenue comes from the sales of crude.

The Government must take certain counter measures to reduce or eliminate the effect of recession. Please note the government does not have direct control on producers’ and consumers’ behaviour; but can influence millions of producers and consumers through laudable and well articulated policies.

On the fiscal policy side, there should be tax cuts for businesses or individuals. I don’t think this is visible because the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun in a bid to increase the revenue generation drive of the Federal government, recently increased the withholding tax from 2.5 percent to 5 percent. This rate is only applicable to payments in respect of all aspects of building, construction, and related activities. There should also be more spending by government to create jobs.

While from the monetary policy angle, more monies should be made available to bank through the CBN to give loans to enterprising individuals and companies at a reasonable and reduced interest rate.

This will make demand pick then the market can recover.

The Government’s power is like a double-edged sword as it should be weary of formulating policies that are based on trial and error which may further even worsen the current economic situation.

We all have a role to pay as citizens of this great nation. I can’t wait for things to start taking shape.

Micheal Carrick : Manchester United Have Made The Best Transfer Signings

Featured Image

Micheal Carrick had a lot of things to say on  an interview with MUTV

“I think it’s more about getting the best players you can through the door and we’ve certainly done that this summer. All four players are going to be great for this club.

“Paul being the last one is massive news. It has gone on for a few weeks and I think he’s as delighted as much as anyone that it’s done now and he can focus on his football.

“I’ve said all along, since I’ve been here, the club needs the best players in the squad to push each other and challenge each other. Certainly, we’ve been given that this summer.

“[It] has given us a good start and a positive feeling around the place to be confident going into the first games of the season and beyond.

“It’s always exciting and always a feeling of what’s going to happen looking forward, not just this week and next week but towards the end of the season when we’re looking to be challenging for trophies; fighting on all fronts is what we need to be doing.

“We’re focused on that end goal. We want to put ourselves in the position in the coming months to really challenge – getting that feeling back and smelling that success come Christmas time.

“You can’t beat that feeling, that something special is around the corner, and we need to get to that point.”

Diego Forlan Signs Three Months Contract With Indian Club Mumbai City

Featured Image

Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan has made the move to Mumbai City in India, where he will play for at least three months.

The 37-year-old will join the Indian club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the squad’s pre-season is already underway.

The former Atleti and Manchester United man confirmed the signing via video on social media, and will fly out to meet his new teammates within the next few hours.

“They want to grow football, something that is understandable given the population,” the 37-year-old said. “Next year they want to extend it to seven months and then to a whole year. For now, though, it is three months [my contract].”

“Everything is all set. There are some details to be worked out but we are on our way over there,” Forlan’s brother Pablo told Sport 890.

Forlan, whose career took him to Manchester United, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Brazilian club Internacional, told Uruguay radio last week that he would not play in Argentina or Brazil, and admitted that he had no offers from Major League Soccer, but insisted that he did not want to retire.

Penarol president Juan Pedro Damiani had asked Forlan to return.

Forlan said he was happy with his decision.

“The expectations continue to grow each year, more spectators, more TV viewers,” he said. “It is something understandable given the population, but they want to grow it on an even bigger scale so they are bringing in players from other leagues.”

Zidane : We Won’t Sign Players Just Because Others Are

Featured Image

Real Madrid Manager  Zinedine Zidane insists that he will not feel obliged to splash the cash in the market

If Real’s pre-season has established anything, it is that there are a number of players from the Castilla academy that are ready to play important squad roles and that the unity in the squad is as strong as ever.

Zinedine Zidane said

“We are not going to signings for the sake of signings,”

“If we miss Crisitiano [Ronaldo], [Karim] Benzema or [Gareth] Bale, we have Lucas [Vazquez], [Marco] Asensio, [Alvaro] Morata, James [Rodriguez] and Isco,” detailed the French coach when highlighting his squad’s strength.

One thing that is critical to Zidane’s outlook is the atmosphere in his dressing room and given how smoothly Alvaro Morata has integrated back into the club, Real do not want to risk doing anything that may upset the current mood.

With less talk about any possible incomings, the club are more concerned over the possible departures of James Rodriguez and Isco.

Despite Zidane wanting to keep both at the club, the rise of Asensio may push one or both down the pecking order and Los Blancos need to address the situation delicately.

Saido Berahino To Quit West Brom For Nothing At The End Of The Season

Featured Image

Saido Berahino has officially informed West Brom he intends to see out the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, report the Daily Mail.

Berahino is a target for Crystal Palace and Stoke, with both understood to have tabled offers in the region of £20m, but the Baggies are yet to sanction a transfer for the striker.

One of the most protracted transfer sagas in recent years looks set to drag after it emerged England U21 international Berahino had opted against pushing through a transfer this summer.

The Mail adds that the striker’s decision means he will be free to leave the Baggies next summer for a potentially lucrative free transfer.

The  development opens up the possibility of West Brom losing Berahino for nothing during the summer of 2017.

Berahino can sign a potentially lucrative pre-contract agreement with an overseas club from January; and it is understood clubs from Spain and Germany have already expressed an interest.

And it is an opportunity Berahino is now prepared to explore.

Manchester United’s Ander Herrera Heading To Juventus?

Featured Image

Tuttosport report Juventus have their sights set of Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Italian sports daily claim the Bianconeri, having seen Paul Pogba move to Old Trafford, would like to see the Spaniard move in the opposite direction.

Herrera is still trying to cement a regular spot in United’s midfield after his big-money move from Athletic Bilbao in 2014.

The midfielder has been identified as part of a four man shortlist whicj also includes Nemanja Matic, Isco and Mateo Kovacic.
Herrera’s United future doesn’t seem in doubt, though. He featured in three out of four pre-season games for Manchester United, and also played 29 minutes of the Community Shield last Sunday – clearly indicating that he is a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for this season.

Arsene Wenger Believes Clubs Will Soon Start Paying £200 Millions To Sign Players

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger believes it will not be long before clubs pay up to £200m for players.

Manchester United broke the world transfer record on Tuesday when they paid £89million to Juventus to take Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.

World record transfer fees has increased by nearly £75million in 20 years. Arsene Wenger’s own record signing came when Arsenal paid in excess of £40million to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013 and when asked how long it would be until a club pays up to £200m for a player, he replied: “Not long.

“I have said that since I have been in the game that at some point it has to stop, but as long as football continues to develop and becomes more popular, more money will come in.

Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s Transfer Record Holder

“What is interesting to see is that today, you have a local business and you just want to survive or you have a world business and the money comes in, whether it is Google, Facebook, football or any other sport, they are worldwide so you can’t set any limitations on the income.

“If football continues to be popular it may become much higher in the future.”

Wenger’s big spend this summer was on Granit Xhaka, who joined from Borussia Monchengladbach in May for around £30m.

#WifeNotCook: Sean Tizzle Picks His Side In The Wife-Not-Cook Debate

Featured Image

While several men are debating on “my wife must cook” versus “I don’t mind if she doesn’t cook”, Sean Tizzle has chosen his own side in the drama.

In a powwow with Punch, he disclosed his love to live his life to the best maximum which has given him a desired love for food.

Due to this need to quench his sometimes insatiable appetite, the young man in question decided to learn how to cook and right now he is extremely good at it.

As a matter of fact, he is so good at making a meal he has no business with “wife must cook” because no female can threaten, or in the Nigerian slang, “do shakara” for him because of food.

He said, “I can take care of myself in that area.”

Sean Tizzle added that he’s also a general homebody as he loves to clean.

Wish there were more men like Tizzle.

In his words: “I am somebody who tries to live my life the best way I can, and I’m a good cook as well, so no girl can threaten me with that because I can take care of myself in that area. I also like to clean. But I don’t have a favorite food; maybe that’s why I like food.”

sean tizzle

Sean Tizzle doesn’t care if his wife cat cook

Meanwhile, why do men love women who can take care of themselves and doesn’t need them for anything, besides sex and maybe emotional connection but when it’s the men’s turn they have so many demands, “sex, chores, go to market, cook food, rub my back, iron my shirt, lay my bed, etc?”

One reason every man should know how to cook and do chores is to avoid dependency on a woman for a meal or getting things done. They say dependent people are annoying.

The saying of the way to a man’s heart – and pocket, is his belly, is ingrained in women’s mind, they know this and that’s why they barter with it. I cook for you, you make me happy – financially or sexually.

Wife not cook versus wife must cook is not and should never be an issue between partners who love and accept each other. Cooking or not cooking should never be a problem if you’re with someone you deeply care about.

If he’s fighting you just for not coking, check it, deep down there’s something wrong with your relationship.

Sean Tizzle can cook and clean, be like Sean Tizzle.

Mourinho: United Will Not Always Attack

Featured Image

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho foes not intend to always attack with the club. And he believes it doesn’t change the club’s identity.

Mourinho will manage his first EPL match with the Old Trafford club, when they play Bournemouth on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola might not be prepared to change his tactics to win a match, that does not look like a problem for Mourinho though.

“I have grown up in football as a manager since 2001 more or less and – especially when I came to England in 2004 – I saw Man United as a winning team, not as always an attacking team,” Mourinho told reporters.

“I played sometimes against Man United and Man United was a defensive team. I played Real Madrid-Manchester United in Madrid and they crossed the midfield line twice and Wayne Rooney played outside left to defend my right back.

“I saw them always as a winning team with an attacking philosophy, yes, but a winning team and the winning team needs to score more goals than they concede.

“That’s the challenge for Man United – to try to be a winning team in a new era of the Premier League that is much more difficult than before.

“We want to win competitions. To win isolated matches you can play badly but to win competitions you need to play well.”

Mourinho also warned not to expect a free-flowing United side from week one of the league campaign, with the modern demands of pre-season reducing the amount of preparation work a manager can do and making it impossible to start “as a train”.

The 53-year-old added: “It’s more difficult, especially because pre-seasons are shorter and pre-seasons are less football and more other areas.

“I want to go into the Premier League, day one, with 33 training sessions and half of these players are not here because the players I started with are the players that are going on loan, other players are going to the under-21 team and the under-18 team.

“Instead of 33 training sessions, which would be the normal situation 10, 15 years ago, I have guys who are going into Premier League day one with eight training sessions.

“You cannot start as a train. You can start good and in condition to win the match. It’s a very difficult match for us but we are in condition to win it but not at the highest intensity. It’s not possible.”

Ibrahimovic Praises ‘Massive’ United

Featured Image

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has donned the colours of great clubs in the past. But he believes Manchester United tops the others.

The former Sweden international has played at Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and PSG. He joined United on a free transfer from the Ligue 1 club.

The veteran striker also won domestic league titles with all four clubs, as well as Ajax. However, he feels he has been taken to a new level at Old Trafford.

“The way everything is done here. When I come to the training ground it’s massive,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports.

“The history of the club, the players that have been playing here, all the attention the club gets, fans everywhere. I go right I see the fans, I go left I see them, wherever I go I see the fans.

“It’s massive. It’s top level. I played for Barcelona and also Juventus and Milan, it’s the same thing, but I think this could be one step more.

“To have the luck to play for such a big clubs, to play with big players, I don’t know how many players have had that luck. I had it, I won with them, and hopefully I can do it here.”

Ibrahimovic is set to make his Premier League debut when United open their campaign at Bournemouth on Sunday.

Conte: Chelsea Are Working Hard On Signing New Players

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has stated the club are working furiously on signing new players, but must exercise patience due to the crazy nature of the summer transfer market.

The former Juventus manager is prepping for his first EPL game, as the blues will play West Ham on Monday.

Chelsea have only signed Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante ahead of the game, in a transfer window which has seen Manchester United sigh Paul Pogba for a world record £93.8m fee.

But Conte insists he and Chelsea officials are still hoping to land a few more fresh faces before the window closes on 31 August.

“I speak every day with the club and we have a plan,” he told a press conference. “We know that this transfer market is crazy and different but we must be patient to find the right solutions for the team and it is important to speak every day with the club to find the right solution to improve this squad.

“I prefer to talk these topics with the club and have the idea to improve the squad, sure in the future, it something can happen.”
