Celtic Charged By UEFA Over Palestinian Flags

Featured Image

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic, for flying illicit banners in the 5-2 win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Wednesday.

Around 100 Palestinian flags were flown by supporters at the Celtic Park, prior to the start of the UCL playoff 1st leg against the Israeli side.

UEFA forbids political expressions in football and on Friday confirmed Celtic had breached Article 16 (2) of their disciplinary regulations.

It is the second time the Scottish champions have been charged by UEFA for the waving of Palestinian flags, the first coming in July 2014 during a game against KR Reykjavik.

The case will be dealt with by the governing body’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on September 22.

“Ibrahimovic Is A Humble Guy” – Carrick

Featured Image

Michael Carrick has hailed Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his humility, stating the striker is making an effort to fit in at the club.

The Swedish striker joined Manchester United on a free transfer from PSG, and scored the winner in the community shield against Leicester. He also scored on his EPL debut against Bournemouth.

And Carrick has now hailed the forward, admitting that he has made as much of an impact off the pitch as he has on it.

“Ibra is a really nice guy and humble around the changing room,” Carrick told the United match programme ahead of their meeting with Southampton on Friday.

“He has fitted in really well, which is nice as he’s made a real effort and you can see that.

“In terms of his quality and career, there’s not much more to be said about him. He has proved what he brings to teams.”

Naming A Dog “Buhari”, Police Impunity And The Law

Featured Image

Naming A Dog “Buhari”, Police Impunity And The Law, By Inibehe Effiong

I have taken pains to elucidate on the issue under consideration which is as simple as ABC. It is not because there are no serious and pressing legal controversies in the country requiring my intervention, but to basically portray the reckless, arbitrary and intolerable abuse of law enforcement powers by the police. This matter calls to question the level of institutional sanity in the Nigeria Police Force.

This piece was written by Inibehe Effiong. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

A 30-year-old trader, Mr. Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, of No 10, Omikunle Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun State was arrested last Saturday and incarcerated for about three days by the police for naming his pet dog “Buhari”. The arrest and detention followed a complaint by an unnamed Mallam, who is said to be an alien from Niger Republic. Confirming the arrest to Vanguard newspaper, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi had this to say:

“I have made enquiries. The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true. You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest. We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”

READ ALSO: Should Naming A Dog After The President Be Regarded As Crime?

Continuing, he said:

“He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (Wednesday). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing. It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person, you are indirectly insulting him.”

Narrating his ordeal and the rationale for naming his pet dog “Buhari” to Vanguard upon his release on Tuesday, Chinakwe said:

“It is annoying because the complainant is from Niger Republic and I am sure he is one of those illegal aliens in this country. He connived with one Police Sergeant from the Northern part of Nigeria called Musa, who works at Sango Police division to humiliate me. Worse still, the Divisional Police Officer there, did not help matters as he refused to entertain any plea from me after I was arrested that Saturday night. He simply ordered his men to throw me into the cell.”

Continuing, he said “I did not commit any offence. I named my beloved pet dog Buhari, who is my hero. My admiration for Buhari started far back when he was a military Head of State. It continued till date that he is a civilian president. After reading his dogged fight against corruption, which is like a canker worm eating into the very existence of this country, I solely decided to rename my beloved dog which I called Buhari, after him. I did not know that I was committing an offence for admiring Buhari.”

From the foregoing, the sole issue for determination is whether the arrest and detention of Mr. Chinakwe in the circumstance is constitutional?

The starting point in resolving the above issue is whether the naming of a dog “Buhari” is a criminal offence. The Police is of the view that it amounts to “conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace” because according to them, “an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing.

This is where the police got it all wrong.

The offence erroneously alluded to by the police is provided for in Section 249 (1) (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 29 Vol.11 laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006. The provision is to the effect that “every person who, in any public place, conducts himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace” shall be deemed idle and disorderly persons, and may be arrested without warrant, and shall be guilty of a simple offence, and shall be liable to imprisonment for one month.

How does the naming of a dog “Buhari” amount to a conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace? The conduct envisaged by the law should not merely be offensive to an individual’s or group’s perception of acceptable conduct. The fact that an individual or a section of the public considers a person’s conduct repulsive and reprehensible does not necessarily bring such conduct within the contemplation of Section 249 (1) (d) of the Criminal Code so as to occasion a likelihood of breach of the peace.

The correct test for determining whether a conduct is likely to cause a breach of the peace was articulated by the then Federal Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of Nelson Ohanyere & 9 Others v Inspector General of Police (1957) SCNLR 213, where Jibowu, AG. F.C.J. (as he then was) held thus:

“The test to be applied is whether the conduct of the accused was such that a breach of the peace might reasonably have ensued, and the fact that no breach of the peace, in fact, took place is irrelevant.”

Reasonableness is a decisive consideration as correctly stated by the court. There is no reasonable likelihood of a breach of public peace in an individual deciding to give his pet dog the name of a human being. In the eyes of the law, it is immaterial that the human name so given is equally borne by a public figure, such as the president of Nigeria or any other person for that matter.

READ ALSO: For Naming His Dog ‘Buhari’, Police Detains Trader In Ogun State

The Supreme Court of Canada took a more definitive position on the issue in the case of Frey v. Fedoruk ET AL (1950) S.C.R. 517 when it held that:

“Conduct, not otherwise criminal and not falling within any category of offences defined by the criminal law, does not become criminal because a natural and probable result thereof will be to provoke others to violent retributive action; acts likely to cause a breach of the peace are not in themselves criminal merely because they have this tendency. It is for Parliament and not for the Courts to decide if any course of conduct, which has not up to the present been regarded as criminal, is now to be so regarded.”

In that case, the appellant was chased, caught and detained by the respondent, Fedoruk, after he had been seen on Fedoruk’s property looking into a lighted side window of the house where a woman was preparing for bed. A policeman, the other respondent, was called and, after some investigation, arrested appellant without warrant.

On a charge that he “unlawfully did act in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by peeping …” appellant was convicted by a Police Magistrate but acquitted by the Court of Appeal. In upholding the appellant’s claim for damages for false imprisonment, Kerwin J. who read the leading judgment of the court insisted that the act of peeping was not in itself a crime as such the appellant could not be prosecuted for acting in the manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by peeping. The court emphasised that for such a charge to be sustained, the particular act complained of must itself be a crime.

The Canadian precedent only has a persuasive effect on Nigerian courts. It is not binding. I submit that despite its non binding nature, the decision is logically tenable and legally sound.

It is not permissible under our constitutional law and criminal jurisprudence for a person to be prosecuted for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace contrary to Section 249 (1) (d) of the Criminal Code when the very conduct complained of is not in itself a criminal offence.

In the instant case, is it a criminal offence in any Act of the National Assembly or law of any State House of Assembly of the federation, including Ogun State for a person to give his pet dog a human name or name a dog after a particular human being, irrespective of the status of the human being after which the dog is named?

The police knew that the answer to this simple question is a capital NO. Yet, it recklessly and unlawfully proceeded to effect the arrest and detention of Mr. Chinakwe for naming his pet dog “Buhari”.

Section 36 (12) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) states thus:

“Subject as otherwise provided by this Constitution, a person shall not be convicted of a criminal offence unless that offence is defined and the penalty therefore is prescribed in a written law, and in this subsection, a written law refers to an Act of the National Assembly or a Law of a State, any subsidiary legislation or instrument under the provisions of a law.”

This constitutional provision enshrines the right to be tried for an offence that is known to law. It forbids the arrest, detention, prosecution or conviction of any person except for a crminal offence that is prescribed in a written law. This provision was first tested in the locus classicus of Aoko v Fagbemi (1961) 1 All NLR 273 where the Apext Court unanimously quashed the conviction of the appellant for adultery since adultery was found not to be a criminal offence in any written law in the South.

The police stated that Chinakwe’s “conduct” was “likely to cause a breach of public peace” because “an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing.

This is most ridiculous.

Why should “an average Northerner” feel bad because someone named his dog “Buhari”? Is President Muhammadu Buhari the president of Nigeria or the president of the North? While it is morally imperative for the office and person of the president to be respected by all, refusal to accord Buhari “respect” is not a crime.

There is a distinction between calling President Muhammadu Buhari a dog on the one hand and naming a pet dog “Buhari”. While the former on the face of it is offensive and derogatory of the president, the latter may be either innocous or derogatory depending on the circumstances and motive of the owner of the dog. However, none of the two cases can justify arrest, detention or prosecution. The reason being that no criminal offence is committed in either case.

At worst, such “conduct” is merely ‘contra bonos mores’ (Against good morals) but not ‘contra pacem’ (Against public peace) in the sense of being a breach of the criminal law. The maxim is ‘nullum crimen nulla poena sine lege’, that is, there is no crime nor punishment except in accordance with law.

The owner of the dog told Vanguard that he actually named the dog “Buhari” because of his “admiration” for Buhari who he said is his hero. Even if he did so out of sheer animosity and disdain for President Muhammadu Buhari, it will still not justify his arrest and detention. There is nothing sacred about the name Buhari in the eyes of the law. Our president is not the only person bearing Buhari.

The allegation by the police that Chinakwe inscribed “Buhari” on both sides of his dog’s body and walked around with it does not make any difference. It is fashionable for people to give dogs human names. It is also fashionable for pet dogs to be carried around. Some people even go the extent of putting dogs in their vehicles and sleeping with them on the same bed.

If there was a law that criminalise the “conduct” of giving a human name to a dog, it would have had a universal application in the country or any part thereof where same is enacted.

READ ALSO: Trader Who Named His Beloved Pet Dog ‘Buhari’ Narrates Ordeal At Police Cell

In other words, it would not only be a criminal offence for a person to name his or her dog “Buhari”, it would also be a crime for a dog to be named Moses, Musa, Antonio, Chukwu, Okon, Babalola, Christiana, Halima and so on.

For such unthinkable law to be capable of enforcement within the framework of the legal system and the criminal jurisprudence, it must not only define in clear terms what a “human name is” but also equally list the names so defined.

This is legislatively, humanly and logically impracticable. Supposing without conceding that it is practicable, such an absurd law would still be manifestly unconstitutional as it would violate the fundamental right to freedom from discrimination under Section 42 of our Constitution since some human names will be unavoidably omitted.

The Nigeria Police Force has an uncharitable way of shaming itself. This is a case where the complainant is said to be an alien from Niger Republic but was able to maliciously and illegally set the police in motion against a citizen of Nigeria.
In its characteristic manner, the police detained Mr. Chinakwe beyond the period allowed by law and denied him bail despite entreaties by his family in violation of his fundamental right to personal liberty under Section 35 of the Constitution. He was only released on the fourth day after his arrest.

This is condemnable and unacceptable. Mr. Chinakwe should seek redress in a court of law.

In conclusion, unprecedented and radical reforms are needed urgently in the Nigeria Police Force. Countless innocent Nigerians have been serially humiliated, tortured and murdered by the police for the most flimsy and senseless reasons.

We cannot continue like this as a nation.

Court Dissolves Marriage After Wife Accused Hubby Of Giving Her ‘N10 As Feeding Allowance’

Featured Image

A Sharia Court of Arbitration panel in Ojaoba, Ibadan on Friday attended to a case of domestic uncoupling where a woman accused her husband of giving her N10 per meal as upkeep allowance for family of six.

Sidikat had urged the court to dissolve her 18-year-old marriage to Yusuf due to the visible, irreconcilable difference that has led to alleged infidelity and starvation.

According to her: “He was giving me N10 as feeding allowance either as breakfast or lunch because he said he just lost his job.

Even when he got another job, Yusuf did not change and in fact, the situation worsened as we continued to depend on concoction.

Yusuf, most of the times fed on bread and egg with sardine while the children and I took gari or eba.

My lord, right from the beginning of my stay with Yusuf as his wife, I started experiencing different kinds of bad treatment of which starvation was number one.

Worst still, Yusuf started having sexual intercourse with my younger sister who came to assist me when I was sick and in fact impregnated her.

My lord, I still managed to endure with him for 10 years and when I saw that things will not change, I moved out of his house.

As if those are not enough, he could not pay for any of his children hospital bill, let alone mine.

During our wedding, so as to make things easy for him, I barely requested him to give me my favourite Islamic music cassette as my bride price and I am ready to refund it.”

Yusuf, who reacted in opposition to her demand for divorce, however, failed to address any of the fundamental issues of starvation and infidelity raised by his wife.

“My lord, till the end of time, I am not parting ways with Sidikat. I am ready to welcome her back into my home any day anytime,” Yusuf said.

In his judgment, the President of the court, Sheikh Hamad Tirmisiyu, held that it was terrible for any husband to be so irresponsible to the extent of being unable to fend for his household.

He added that Sharia considered inability of a husband to adequately provide for his family as a wicked act and ungodly.

Obviously, there is no true love between Sidikat and Yusuf because the husband cannot respond to the fundamental issues raised by the wife.

Accordingly, Sidikat shall refund the Islamic cassette which stood as bride price on wedding day to Yusuf.

The children shall determine who to stay with between Sidikat and Yusuf.

In addition, Yusuf shall pay a monthly feeding allowance of N10, 000 for the upkeep of the four children until they are ready to stay with him,” he said.

FUNAAB Declares Mid-Semester Break

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has declared a 7-day mid-semester break for the Second Semester, 2015/2016 Academic Session with effect from Thursday, August 18, 2016. This is to enable the university to put additional welfare and security arrangements in place, to further support the initiatives of the Federal and State Governments, towards the protection of lives and properties of its citizens, particularly, members of staff and students of the university.

As part of the efforts towards ensuring a safe haven for members of the University community, amidst the security challenges presently facing some parts of our country, Nigeria, FUNAAB has partnered with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and the Director, State Security Service (SSS), to uphold safety of lives and property of staff and students living within the school environs, following Armed Robbery reports received by students residing in Isolu, a community situated close to the University, which is highly populated by staff and students of FUNAAB.

To this end, the University’s Security Team, in collaboration with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from Odeda and Obantoko areas, both in Abeokuta, Ogun State, often take turns, on a daily basis, to patrol the University environs at night. The University Management has also encouraged the various communities to embrace community policing and vigilante services, to support the efforts of the Police and the SSS.

It is also important to note that students are properly scrutinized during the University’s screening exercise after the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, to pro-actively ensure that candidates with questionable characters are not admitted into the University. Students have also been cautioned to live a low profile life, avoid attracting unnecessary attention to themselves, be alert, be vigilant about happenings in their surroundings and be free to contact the University’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), in case they notice any strange movement or occurrence around their vicinities.

Towards ensuring that all students reside within the University campus, provision of accommodation is also on the the front-burner of the University. Aside the existing campus hostels which the University had been able to build within its limited resources. FUNAAB has also been able to get well-meaning Nigerians; the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), through its Special Intervention Fund; private organisations; and generous individuals to build additional hostels within the University, which are currently at various stages of completion.

Additionally, the University Management has directed that all lectures do not exceed 6pm daily, to allow students get to their homes before dark, while the University transportation services is always available to convey students, who reside outside the campus, close to their destinations.

Meanwhile, contrary to reports being circulated by certain media, it is pertinent to state that the University did not lose anyone during the recent unrest by students of the University. Rather, the only student, who was hurt when he engaged a Police Officer in a scuffle, is currently receiving attention at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Attention has also been drawn to reports on the invitation extended to some Principal Officers of the University by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). As public officers as well as responsible and law abiding citizens, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole and the Bursar, Mr. Moses Ilesanmi have since honored the invitation by the anti-graft agency, to make clarifications on issues bordering on the administration of the University.

The University Management assures that the situation is under control, as normal administrative activities continue unabatedly.

Allegri: Dybala Will Be One Of The Best In The World

Featured Image

Massimiliano Allegri has earmarked Paulo Dybala to become one of the best player in the world.

Juventus welcome Fiorentina on Saturday in their opening game of the Serie A campaign, as they look to win their sixth consecutive scudetto.

But it is 22-year-old Dybala, signed last summer from Palermo, who Allegri thinks is set for super-stardom.

“Dybala is an extraordinary player and he can do even better things than last year,” said Allegri.

“He will become one of the world’s top three players. He had impressive growth last season – if I think back to when he arrived, he had changed totally three months later.

“He’s a lad who is always improving and he has great focus and determination which are the reasons he will keep getting better.”

Ahead of the Fiorentina game, Allegri would not reveal whether two of their key additions – Miralem Pjanic and Higuain – would start.

He added: “I have already decided on seven of my starting XI. I will evaluate on Friday and Saturday morning whether Pjanic is in a condition to play.

“Higuain’s physical condition is improving. When he came here he wasn’t in great condition, but now he’s much better and he scored in the friendly at Villar Perosa.

“Sami Khedira’s been training with us for 15 days – he’s in good shape. Patrice Evra has a knock but he should be fit.

“Who will play up front? Dybala will play and for the rest, you will have to wait and see.”

Guardiola: Hart Can Leave If He Wants

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has stated he will let goalie Joe Hart leave the club if he puts in for a transfer request.

The England international has been sidelined since the beginning of the season, with Willy Caballero preferred against Steaua Bucharest and Sunderland.

And Guardiola says he would allow the England No.1 to go if he came and requested a transfer, although he did insist he will improve if he decides to stay.
“Yes of course,” he said at a press conference. “I want happiness for the players, I dont want them to stay here if they don’t want to stay.

“All the players here have a contract, if they decide they are going to stay they are going to stay. But they know the situation when I spoke with them. The situation, I spoke individually with them, so they know exactly what the situation is.

“I don’t know if the players are not happy here, or if they want to stay. They decide the future because they have the contract. If they want to stay, they will stay. We will fight together to achieve, if they want to leave because they prefer to play every game… but I’m not speaking about Joe, speaking about all the players at the club.

“There is no doubt about that.”

Although Hart’s chances of winning his place back would appear especially slim if Bravo completes his move as expected, Guardiola is insistent that the Englishman can get his game up to speed if he shuns a transfer in the next fortnight.

The Catalan, in fact, spoke at length about the Hart situation, explaining why he has been left out of the opening games and how he can improve in the future.

“I said to him in the first moment: If he stays, he’s going to improve,” he added.

“He’s going to understand what we want, what we want from our goalkeeper. I met a lot of players at the beginning who had their problems – I’m not talking about the goalkeepers – they had their problems at the beginning, but after one month, two months, six months, one year, they became one of the best players in that position. That can happen.

“But when Willy played those two games, right now, in that situation, [it is because] he is better. Today. But that doesn’t mean it [can’t change] in the future. They have to decide if they want to stay or if they want to leave. If he wants to stay here I want to help him, after every week I am going to decide.

MFM Founder Reverend Olukoya: “Don’t Associate With Pastors With No Roots”

Featured Image

The founder of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, Reverend Daniel Olukoya has given advice urging people to be aware of fake pastors who display certain tendencies such as, sprouting out of nowhere to claim men of God.

Olukoya, stated at the MFM headquarters in Ogun State that “many fake prophets were on the street, on the television and on radio today.”

He said: “When you see someone from nowhere or someone just appears from nowhere, when you can’t identify the church where he got born again and you cannot even trace his roots to any church, then you should be very, very careful to associate with such a ‘man of God.”

The Reverend continued, “These men are always in suits and they see visions. They speak strange languages that are very uncommon and they called it speaking in tongue, these people are always seen vibrating, while preaching. “The same fake prophets are the same sleeping in hotels with the wives of church members.”

According to Daily Post, the MFM-founder narrated a childless-woman’s ordeal in the hands of one of these men of God.

Rev. Olukoya said, “The man asked her to sleep with him in a cemetery and the lady slept with him on a grave. But the woman saw a padlock in his hand when she was having sex with him and the padlock was locked during the ejaculation and since then, the woman’s womb was blocked. Her problem multiplied.

“Another fake prophet told someone to come to Nigeria, that he must have sex with her before she could prosper. “How could a man ask his church members to deposit water in bottles in the church for seven days?

Olukoya cited these things, such as, the ‘so-called miracle’ and ‘signs and wonders’ as fast means of disobedience.

If we could ask Reverend Olukoya a question it probably would go, “How does one know a fake pastor?”.

Yes or No – The Nigerian Government Is The Reason Her Olympic Athletes Don’t Win Medals

Featured Image

Nigerian weightlifter, Mariam Usman, laments the poor preparations she and her counterparts had to endure before the Rio Olympics which caused them to lose out on so many medals.

Thanks to the government for its lack of provisions of sporting equipment to be used for rigorous practice by these athletes and later expects them to win against individuals who have been practicing with the highest and most modern piece(s) of sports equipment, three years before the Olympic’s due date.

Mariam was the only Nigerian representative weightlifter at the Olympics where she finished eight in her group after competing in the +75 category and weighting 265 kg.

She lamented while speaking to reporters at the Games Village in Rio.

“It is painful to come to the Olympics and see people who are your contemporaries perform better than you; not because you lack the ability but because you were not prepared like them,” she said, while speaking to reporters.”

“For me, it is not just about jumping unto the plane every four years to go to the Olympics. Every athlete you see here wants to step on the podium. If you can’t aim to climb up there, you have no business coming to the Olympics.”

The weightlifter continued, “I can only consider going to another Olympics if things change for the better. But if the status quo is maintained, I don’t think I will go to another Olympics again. Olympic gold medal doesn’t come cheap. It is painful that one has to suffer and when competition comes they expect you to win a medal with your blood.”

“The people you have to compete with had everything they needed: training grants, competitions and are exposed to the most modern equipment. I had nothing,” she concluded. “You don’t expect such people who have invested so much to lose to one who don’t even train adequately.”

Mariam felt better with her performance four years ago as she concluded, “Yes, I feel 2012 was better. I had better training and my result was better. This time nothing was done to better one’s performance.”

Do you agree with Mariam Usman? Is the inability to win medals the fault of the Nigerian government?

17-year-old Harry Souttar Set To Join Stoke City

Featured Image

Dundee United defender Harry Souttar is on the verge of a move to Stoke City after the two clubs agreed a fee for the 17-year-old.

The fee is understood to be £200,000 plus add-ons, including a sell-on clause and the player is believed to have agreed personal terms.

Souttar has played just three times for Dundee United’s first team – scoring once – and is a product of the Tannadice club’s youth academy.

And it’s understood Souttar himself is keen to go and has made that clear to the Tangerines.
Three years ago his older brother, John, turned down a move to Sunderland after United had accepted a £600,000 bid.

He later regretted that decision and by the time he went to Hearts in January was desperate to move on.

Now the younger sibling is keen to kick-start a career in England as soon as possible.

His manager is already on record as saying that, while he would like to hang on to Souttar, if a big offer that led to him being able to add more experienced defenders to his squad came in, it could be accepted.

Riyad Mahrez Happy To Continue Leicester City ‘Adventure’

Featured Image

Riyad Mahrez says he signed a new Leicester contract to “continue the adventure” with the Premier League champions.

Last season’s PFA Player of the Year ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year deal this week.

He told LCFC TV: “I’m happy to continue my adventure with Leicester City. It’s been a pleasure to be here for the last two-and-a-half years, so I’m going to keep going here.

“I live day after day. I’ve achieved good things with this club. All the players have said congratulations. It’s good – they are happy, and it is good to keep all the players in the team.”

“It’s important because last season we achieved the best thing we could in England. We’ve done an amazing season and it was important to keep the players to keep the same spirit as well.

“Our football has a lot of energy, so if all the players keep their mentalities right, I think we can do something good this year. I’m very happy to be here and I know the club is happy to sign me, so I thank them as well.”

Mahrez’s goal could not prevent a 2-1 defeat at Hull on the opening day, and Arsenal are this weekend’s visitors to the King Power Stadium.

Jose Mourinho Sure Zlatan Ibrahimovic Will Remain At Manchester United For Two Years

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho insists Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay at Manchester United for at least two years. The Swedish striker, 34, scored in last weekend’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth and afterwards suggested that he could stay at United for three years or longer.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year and Mourinho fully expects him to see out a two-year deal.

Ibrahimovic was handed a contract worth £200,000 a week after arriving on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

“I see him happy. Because I know how important it is for a family guy like he is, I ask every day about his wife, kids, integration, house. Everything is fine. Everybody’s happy,” Mourinho said.
“His motivation is really high. So yes, I see him here for the next two years no doubt.”

Claudio Ranieri Always Confident Riyad Mahrez Would Sign New Contract At Leicester City

Featured Image

Claudio Ranieri revealed he was always confident Riyad Mahrez would commit his long-term future to Leicester City.

Riyad Mahrez played a vital role in Leicester’s title winning campaign last season, scoring 17 goals and making 11 assists to be voted the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

“I’m very pleased [about Riyad Mahrez] but I was so sure,” said Ranieri. “Out of the speculation with Vardy and Mahrez, we lost only Kante. We spoke together last season, also in pre-season. He told me he wanted to stay.
The Italian manager also failed to rule out more signings, claiming Danny Drinkwater is on the verge of signing a new contract.

“The market is open and we watch everything. If there’s a good addition for the squad, something could happen
Leicester will be hoping to kick-start their season against Arsenal on Saturday, after beginning their Premier League defence with a a 2-1 defeat at Hull City last weekend.
“Danny is close [to a new contract], he was fantastic last season, but I am sure he can improve as he plays more games and becomes more confident.”

Mauricio Pochettino Says Tottenham Needs Just Three More Signings

Featured Image

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham could sign as many as three more players before the transfer window closes in just under two weeks.

“I am very happy [with Tottenham’s transfer activity this summer]. I know this is difficult in this crazy business that today is football,” the Spurs boss said.

“We try [to bring more players in]. We hope to sign one, two or three players – or maybe no-one. It depends on many things that will happen. We will try to find some players to sign.”

Tottenham’s number one keeper is out for four weeks with a hamstring injury picked up on the opening day of the Premier League season in a 1-1 draw at Everton.

Pochettino refuted the problem was related to the extended season Lloris had in the summer with France and said: “It’s not related to the Euros.

“It’s only that it was an accident and the good thing is it is not too big an injury. It’s only a small, minor injury and he will be with the team very soon.

“It’s always difficult when your captain is not on the pitch. It will always be difficult but we trust in Michel and I think he was doing well in the pre-season.

“He played a lot of friendly games, he is ready to compete. He is a goalkeeper who has a lot of experience in the Premier League and in internationals. There is no doubt about his quality.”
