Aleix Vidal To Leave Barcelona In January

Featured Image

Barcelona’s Aleix Vidal is open to a move away from the Nou Camp in January, according to reports. The full-back hasn’t got the game-time he wanted after making his big move in 2015, and is said to be considering his future options

However, the club are keen to keep Vidal, with manager Luis Enrique saying that Vidal is “training well and trying to rectify the situation”.

The Spaniard moved to Camp Nou from Sevilla in the summer of 2015, but was not cleared to make his official debut until the start of 2016 due to Barcelona’s transfer ban

The 27-year-old did make 14 appearances in the second half of last season, but he has been left out of Luis Enrique’s last five squads and is reportedly not in the plans of the Barcelona boss.

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona are not actively looking to sell the right-sided player, although Vidal could push for a move at the start of 2017 if he remains out of favour under Enrique.

Last weekend, Enrique insisted that Vidal’s situation ‘could change’ despite his lack of appearances this term.

David Moyes Wants Football Agents Fees Published

Featured Image

David Moyes wants agent fees to be published to show the truth behind player transfers.

Former Sunderland boss, Sam Allardyce, lost his job as England manager after just one game in charge, following the Daily Telegraph’s investigation into alleged corruption in English football.

Moyes, who distanced himself from third-party ownership deals, replaced Allardyce at the Stadium of Light and he believes there should be more transparency throughout the game, starting with agents brokering transfer deals. .

“In my time, I’ve not seen much or any of it, probably,” Moyes said. “I think it would be great if everything was more transparent in general. If you’re a fan and your club signs a player you don’t get to know what the agent’s fee is on the deal.

“If we published those then we might get a few shocks. Then maybe people could see that signing the player isn’t the only cost. The football clubs would have to show how much they’re giving individuals.

“No (it wouldn’t be a very good thing for the agents) but it doesn’t look like a very good thing for the managers or the coaches at the moment by some accounts. It’s only my opinion. I think if we did that there would be a few more gasps.”

The France U19 international, 17, is currently contracted to the Ligue 1 side until the summer of 2019.

Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato claim the Premier League heavyweights have been closely tracking the winger’s progress.

After Mbappe agreed his new deal, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said: “We have great belief in him.

“Kylian is a precocious, highly promising player, and we are convinced he will reach his full potential at Monaco.

“With Kylian attracting interest from some very big clubs, this agreement is further proof of the appeal of our project, where young talents can find their place.”

Dino And The Cows Of Abuja

Featured Image

Dino And The Cows Of Abuja, By Azu Ishiekwene

I’m looking for a knife, a very long and sharp one. I’m not possessed with murderous rage over the recession. The Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, has said the worst is over and I believe him.

This article was written by Azu Ishiekwene. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

I’m just a law-abiding citizen in the Federal Capital Territory and all I wish to do is to carry out, to the letter, a recent order by the chairman of the Senate committee on the FCT, Dino Melaye.

At a meeting with the FCT minister on Monday, Melaye offered the final solution to the menace of cattle grazing in the city. He said that if herdsmen would not keep their cows off the main streets and the city centre, then all lawful residents must take up their knives and teach the cows and the herdsmen that Abuja is not George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

When I told a close friend that I needed to arm myself to comply with Dino’s instruction, he said I needed, first of all, to ascertain the distinguished senator’s state of mind at the time he gave that instruction. I’m not a shrink, I replied, I’m just a law-abiding citizen eager to obey the law.

Obviously determined neither to help me nor to let me be, the fellow added that I needed to be sure which Dino was giving the instruction before getting my knife. Dino Melaye, he insisted, is one of the most profoundly transformed and transforming political species in Nigeria’s recent political history. You have to know which Dino you’re mapping, to be sure.

There was Dino the Rep. Nine years ago, this Dino was one of the ring leaders in the House of Representatives ranged against Speaker Dimeji Bankole over allegations of improper contract awards. He fought Bankole to the bitter end and even though both of them failed re-election, the former Speaker will not forget Dino in a hurry.

There was also Dino the activist and founder of the Anti-Corruption Network. When the Jonathan administration was still trying to figure out the difference between corruption and stealing, this Dino founded an NGO that claimed zero-tolerance for corruption.

During the fuel price hike riots of January 2012, Dino staged endless days of sit-ins at the Eagle Square in Abuja without worrying about cows or herdsmen. He was too weary and hopeless to notice. In fact, at the time, a casual onlooker might not have spotted any difference between him and herdsmen. Dino endured heat, harmattan and rough handling by anti-riot policemen, as a bona fide activist. That was then.

He even teamed up with the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners to draw the country’s and global attention to the disgraceful negligence of the girls and their families by the government at that time. That once upon a Dino gave former aviation minister, Stella Oduah, hell for buying two bulletproof cars for over a quarter of a billion naira.

In 2015, however, after Dino the activist transformed into Dino the senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, his mutation defied mapping. His gross sense of humour about serious national issues, his shabby treatment of facts on the floor of the Senate, his tasteless joke about Governor Adams Oshiomhole not marrying a “made-in-Nigeria” wife and his spat with Senator Oluremi Tinubu were mild manifestations of wayward cells.

His friends on social media have a difficult time keeping up with his collection of exotic cars and his outrageous sense of fashion. You wonder why a senator from one of Nigeria’s poorest constituencies has to go to such extraordinary lengths to seek personal attention.

But that’s the Dino of today. He flaunts his political power and gets just as much high from it as he does from the wine branded in his name.

When he asks Abuja residents to sharpen their knives for stray cows, he thinks it’s a joke. Or perhaps he thinks he’s doing us a favour since the stray cows will never get near any of his new Mercedes Benz vintage collections anyway.

Whatever it is, Dino cannot pretend that he does not know that violent clashes between herdsmen and communities have claimed over 700 lives. Why should knife wielding even come up at all? I’m aghast that the contribution of a senator of the Federal Republic to solving an already serious problem is a call for more violence.

The herdsmen grazing cows on the streets of Abuja are rarely the owners. It doesn’t absolve them of liability for any damage or justify trespass. But neither will fining these hirelings end the problem. Often, the herd owners are wealthy and influential figures, mostly politicians like Dino. Just as he doesn’t care about feeding us with the smoke from his garage and the trash from his closet, the herd owners don’t care if their cows trample over the city.

Yet, the distinguished senator might just be surprised to find that if Abuja residents were to choose between the menace of the straying cows and the nuisance that he has become in recent years, they would have no hesitation choosing the former.

Instead of asking citizens to get knives and go after the cows, the sensible thing would be to locate the largest herd owners in and around the city through formal and informal networks and collectively find a way to remove the menace. It won’t be easy, because Abuja’s main concrete jungle was greedily excised by displacing the original owners of the land who were mostly farmers and pastoralists.

But the built up part of the city is still a small fraction of the total land area, with plenty of potential grazing sites on the fringes. With a bit of brainwork, Abuja can truly be a model for how the rest of the country could tackle the menace of violent herdsmen.

To call for unilateral slaying of cows or for fines of up to N50,000 to be imposed on the herdsmen does not require thinking. Anyone with Dino’s current testosterone level can do that. The harder part is to find a solution that does not grab the headlines but goes to the heart of the problem.

Can Dino raise his game?

Lady Gaga confirmed late Thursday that she will indeed headline the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 5. The big game will air on Fox.

He said: “The very determined troops from the 13 Brigade and Operation Delta Safe, repelled an attack from armed militants at Efut Esighi in Bakassi local government area this morning.

Mino Raiola Explains How An Agreement With Juventus Stopped Paul Pogba From Joining Chelsea

Featured Image

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was targeted by Jose Mourinho for Chelsea last year but was blocked by an agreement between his agent Mino Raiola and Juventus, according to Raiola himself.

Pogba, who left United for free to join Juventus in 2012 at the age of 18, returned to Old Trafford in a world-record £89m deal earlier this summer.

But the 23-year-old’s agent revealed on Thursday that a potential deal with Chelsea was delayed by an agreement with Raiola and the Italian club that he could leave if they won the Serie A title and Champions League.

But Raiola told Rai Sport: “Paul could have left [Juventus] last year because Mourinho – then at Chelsea – really wanted him.

“But Juventus and I had agreement: win the league title and the Champions League, then he can go.”

Raiola, meanwhile, said Pogba can expect a present from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis because his transfer to United prepared the way for Juve to buy striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli for 90m euros.

He added: “De Laurentiis should be giving Paul a present, because without his departure Juventus would never have bought Higuain, and he would never have been able to bank all that money.”

QPR Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Denies Taking Bribe

Featured Image

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has vehemently denied requesting a fee of £55,000 to work for a fake Far Eastern firm seeking to sell players to Queens Park Rangers, but does admit he was naive.

Hasselbaink was caught up in the Daily Telegraph’s “Football for Sale” scandal, which has rocked English football this week.

The Dutchman is alleged to have negotiated the fee to fly to the Far East and speak to investors in what proved to be a fictitious firm, which the newspaper says made clear it was interested in getting involved in player transfers.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News HQ, Hasselbaink denies he would ever seek to profit from a player transfer: “No, never. I have never been offered any money and I would never entertain that.”

When asked whether he had regrets, Hasselbaink said: “Big time. Big time. You know you reflect, you think back and you criticise yourself and you must say, that I have been naive. I have been naive.

“But then with everything with it, I have never asked for money for myself to take a player or to bring a player to the club. I would never do that.

“That is the painful thing about it. The painful thing about it is that I take my job very serious. Very, very, very serious and I want to succeed in this business.

“I can’t speak for others, I can only speak for me and this, taking money, is not what I stand for. It is not what I stand for, I have never done it and I would never do it just to get a player to the club so I can benefit from that. No.”

Hasselbaink insists he was only discussing being paid to speak in the Far East on a day off from QPR – something that is sanctioned by a clause in his contract with the club – and that he has no control over transfers, which are handled by Les Ferdinand and the QPR board.

He also rejected the idea that the proposed fee of £55,000 was disproportionately high for a mere speaking engagement, explaining that type of figure is not uncommon in football.

Hasselbaink said: “I understand for the English public, or whatever public, that £55,000 is a lot of money. And it is a lot of money. But in the industry that I am in I am fortunate that I can make those kinds of figures.

“I was negotiating to go Singapore for a speech. That’s it. That’s it. No favouritism, no strings attached. What I would never ever do. Never ever do. I would not put myself in that position.”

Sean Dyche Express Admiration For Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger will celebrate his 20th anniversary as Arsenal boss this weekend, and Burnley Manager Sean Dyche has expressed his admiration for the Frenchman.

He said: “Arsene is one of the top managers, certainly through the Premier League years, his team, their style and manner.

“As a manager, it’s a strange one why he’s questioned at times. There is a balance to that and fans want actual success, not deemed success by me as style of play, but trophies.

“It’s a big challenge for us but it’s one we want, the players want, I want and the fans want.

“As ever, Arsenal get people questioning them but they look pretty good to me. They’ve got pace and clever movement.”

Burnley Manager Sean Dyche Hails Steven Defour’s Impact

Featured Image

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has hailed Steven Defour’s impact since joining the Clarets this summer and is relishing the player’s part in a new system at Turf Moor.

Defour, who joined the newly-promoted side for £8m from Anderlecht, scored his first goal for the club in the draw against Hull earlier this month but is yet to complete 90 minutes this season.

Speaking ahead of Burnley’s match against Arsenal at Turf Moor, Dyche said: “Steven has done well.

“The biggest thing I talked to him about was the physicality of the Premier League. I don’t just mean the tackles, but the pace of the league and the physical demands.

“We’ve had to protect his body a bit when he’s come off but he’s adjusting to what we are as a group nicely and he’s getting stronger.”

“I’ve always made it clear that I like 4-4-2 because I think the best line of defence is to attack, and if you’ve got two centre-forwards – productive ones – it’s a good way of playing. I don’t think 4-4-2 is old fashioned.

“But you’ve got to be flexible with the group, and I think with Jeff Hendrick and Defour particularly, they’ve played a lot in a three and have a good understanding of how that works; when to press, when to sit in, when to get forward. We have to make sure we are competitive at least.”
