However, below is the full transcription of the Hausa version of the interview the First Lady, Aisha Buhari granted BBC Hausa as translated by

BBC Hausa: People have goodwill towards President Muhammadu Buhari, especially looking at the things he did before, but since coming into power things have not been working the way they should, what do you thing is the cause?

Aisha Buhari:  I am not a government official, but in my opinion as a woman, a mother, what I think is it is well known that the first 4 years are not going to be easy. Firstly, it was people that brought the government into power. More than half of those people are not appointed into the government. Some people that are not politicians, not professionals were brought into the government. They don’t even know what we said we want and what we don’t during the campaign.  They even come out and say to people we are not politicians, but they are occupying the offices meant for politicians. Some have parted with their wives, some lost their children lost, some women too have parted with their husbands because of politics, a lot happened during the time. The way things are going I too I am not happy. We are just starting, we have not finished. Some people that worked for the government have been appointed. But those heading government agencies you can find one fighting his state governor, they contested together during election one in APC while in PDP.

BBC Hausa: Who are those doing these kinds of things?

Aisha Buhari: Everybody knows them. Those people should know that people voted singly. Even Buhari too had one vote. Nobody voted 5 times.  15.429 Million People. That one that people are thinking too, he had only some 2 or 3 people. I am pleading to them to have the people at heart and embrace everybody so that we can all move together. Not even now in 2016 or 17, lot of people are creating divisions within the APC, which is our source of concern. They think they have worked for the government while those appointed some of them had no voter’s card. What I fear is uprising of 15.4 million people.

BBC Hausa: Is the President aware some people are subverting his government?

Aisha Buhari: Whether he knows or he do not, those that voted for him knows.

BBC Hausa: But you are the most closest to him, did you tell him?

Aisha Buhari: There is nothing I can tell him, he is seeing things himself. Out of the people he has appointed, take 50, 45 of them I don’t know them. Perhaps he doesn’t know them too. I have been living with him for 27 years.

BBC Hausa: Do you think there are some people that are dictating to the President things to do, not him?

Aisha Buhari: That is what I am saying, those that know they don’t have voters card, they should give chance to those that have, they are the ones that struggled and knows what we want to do. Some of them if you go to a meeting with them they will tell you, we are not politicians, if somebody is wise, they will not accept to take any political office. They didn’t even work for it. Even if you are asked to, you should say it is not my profession.  Those places not headed by politicians will cause people discontent.

BBC Hausa: One would wonder to hear you say some people have hijacked the government without him knowing, but who do you think are those people?

Aisha Buhari: I don’t know them, I don’t know them. I don’t know them

BBC Hausa: But some people are calling names, saying 2 or 3 are the ones, do you that as well?

Aisha Buhari: Yes I agree. Because of those appointed apart from Fashola, Ameachi and some others, not much, I don’t know them, most of us too don’t know them, and he too does not know them

BBC Hausa: One would wonder that Buhari is not the one charge knowing him as a person who had leadership experiences, people would not believe

Aisha Buhari: Yes it is surprising; nobody thought it is going to be like this. But now that it is so…sometimes when one is doing something wrong without him knowing, but when people talk to them, they should listen. Because in the future, whether he is going to contest or not, it is that same people that would vote for APC. We hope those people don’t come back, and everybody don’t hope so too

BBC Hausa: You said “Whether he is going to contest in the future or not”, has he disclose it to you whether he is standing or not?

Aisha Buhari: He didn’t tell me, but I have made up my mind.

Gossip Site Retracts Fake Robbery Claims Against Kim Kardashian

A gossip website which alleged that Kim Kardashian faked her robbery in Paris, has retracted their statement and issued an apology.

The reality TV star was accosted by armed men while in Paris, and lost millions of dollars worth of jewelry in the incident.

Website Media Take Out had reported that the incident never happened, and a furious Kim had filed a lawsuit against the website. She was angry that they reported “without any factual support whatsoever, that Kardashian faked the robbery, lied about the violent assault, and then filed a fraudulent claim with her insurance company to bilk her carrier out of millions of dollars.”

Upgrading Buhari To 4G Tech – Louis Odion

Featured Image

Upgrading Buhari To 4G Tech, By Louis Odion

Unwittingly, President Buhari exposed a fortnight ago the dingy side of the digital divide he inhabits on the eve of the nation’s Independence Day anniversary. The occasion was the presentation of a picture book in Abuja. Responding to perspectives offered by a youthful panel of arts entrepreneurs on how to maximise the potential of the creative industry in a digital age, PMB’s prognosis was, at best, analogue.

This piece was written by Louis Odion. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

The Federal Ministry of Information, he argued, should devote more resources to expand existing radio infrastructure because, according to him, they offer a broader platform to reach more Nigerians.

Before you begin to wonder the theoretical basis of that presidential conclusion, here was his simple thesis: “Today, those who have television may not have light. As for newspapers, anything above N100, most people cannot buy because that means a lot from the salary they may be earning. But people will always listen to radio to get information because it is free.” With a president unabashedly revealing such bias, I bet all any smart Information Minister needs to do to have his budget for 2017 doubled is simply pad (that treacherous word again!) his draft with all manner of proposals relating to radio, radio and radio.

But I dare say PMB could not possibly be speaking of contemporary Nigeria, documented to boast a greater young population who are not only quite restless in the social media but are at home with all the accoutrements of the new info tech age. While the nation’s population is put at over 180 million as at 2016, those under-15 account for 45 percent of that figure. Those between the age bracket of 15 and 24 approximate 19.3 percent. Roughly put, Nigerians under 30 account for close to 70 percent of our national population.

As against the Mungo Park-bequeathed transistor radio Buhari seems to be romanticising, the young Nigerian netizens are addicted to Facebook, WhatsApp, Face Time, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc in their everyday conversation. (In fact, the president’s daughter, Zara, is a popular figure on Twitter and Instagram.) Really, the new buzz word of the day is the revolutionary 4G LTE (long term evolution) technology currently being aggressively launched across the country by Glo.

By the way, Glo, a wholly indigenous telco led by Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr. , accounts for a substantial chunk of the active 150 million phone lines in the bourgeoning telecom market and has so carved a niche for itself that it is now commonly addressed as the “Grandmaster of Data”. (Alongside the likes of Dangote, Glo is also flying the Nigerian flag proudly across the African continent, regardless of the stifling climate at home.) So robust, the ICT sub-sector, of which the GSM telephony is biggest player, accounts for a colossal eight percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product in 2014.

So, in this light, to be most charitable, PMB’s radio postulation can be entertained as perhaps only true of Nigeria of the early 60s with a population of 45.2 million. He must be speaking nostalgically of the disappearing traditional society where town-criers beat the gong about to draw communal attention. Today, anyone still clinging to that memory will be classified outdated. For such reading is now representative of the lifestyle of only a small sample of the populace. And the curators of this fading culture would be found largely in Buhari’s own section of the country.

In their own youthful days, PMB’s generation doubtless made an art of writing and exchanging rose-scented mail by post. But texting and pinging are the new forms of expression among young Nigerians of today.

The concept of dictionary and research are also changing. Those days, people literally wrestled with the “big words” and crammed them up from the hard copy. Today, the average young Nigerian would rather take the short-cut by simply consulting google on the go. And with more giga bite now coming for less sums, the electronic channel becomes even more convenient and affordable for researchers.

Gone also are the days the state could monopolise the airwaves. Thanks to YouTube, non-state actors have turned the cyber space to no man’s land.

This point needs be stressed with a view to not only liberating PMB from the iron captivity of an archaic understanding of trend but also assisting him to better appreciate the demographics of the nation he is supposed to be leading. That should, in turn, help in framing clearer messages, as well as devising better communication strategies to effectively engage various segments of the population. Without appreciating this nitty gritty, policy-makers will continue to act in vain. Without understanding the language of the dominant segment of the population, how then can a leader possibly hope to inspire such folks to action?

If in doubt, PMB is humbly advised to upgrade to the Glo 4G tech and will surely find countless solutions to everyday challenges through a surfeit of Apps on offer. By simply deploying an appropriate App, for instance, the president would not have to re-enact the hilarious antiquity witnessed pictorially by the nation at large sometime last year as he meticulously undertook a count of his vast herd in his Daura ranch before manually keeping the records in an exercise book with a BIC pen.

Henceforth, a software will seamlessly keep such and update electronically on his cell-phone. And when hopefully the government-built grazing reserve (cattle ranch?) comes on stream, with a giant screen enabled by 4G tech, PMB can conveniently monitor the progress of his prized cows from the privacy of his bedroom in Aso Rock, real time.

Henceforth, whichever corner of the universe the president finds himself in hot pursuit of either FDI (foreign direct investment) or loot hidden by past political leaders, the real-life effect 4G tech brings will enable him have a video-conference via a multi-media screen with the Federal Executive Council and engage each minister more intimately as though he were physically occupying the iconic leather swivel chair overlooking the main chamber inside Aso Rock.

In medicine, 4G means our local surgeons are better placed to create a virtual theatre by simply co-opting other experts on the other side of the Atlantic and share critical knowledge and experience via a giant screen.

Not wanting to be left behind, this writer patiently waited on the queue in Lagos a few days ago to have his primary work tools – iPad and iPhone – upgraded to 4G tech on the Glo network. The experience was simply amazing. One had missed the second edition of Hillary Clinton/Donald Trump debate in the early hours of last Monday (Nigerian time). But one only needed to activate google search hours later and the abridged version popped up with lightning speed and the picture was of high definition and the sound of digital clarity.

Momentarily, I forgot we are in a recession.

Judges as Bureau de Change?

There can be no disputing the fact that the Department of State Security (DSS) would have done better had it exhibited a little more civility last weekend in the way and manner it chose to apprehend seven top judges across the country over alleged sleaze.

So, the firefight that has since engulfed the public space and the social media from those seeking to obfuscate the real issue while magnifying the DSS’ perceived indiscretion would then seem needless. Countless instances have, by the way, already been cited in other jurisdictions (including the United States) where security agencies had similarly resorted to extra-ordinary tactics in taking into custody not just top judges but also serving lawmakers and wealthy tycoons in the administration of justice.

Beyond the hoopla over the “Gestapo” or “Nazi-like” arrests, the more difficult question many are however still shy to address is the reported discovery in raw cash running into hundreds of thousands of dollars and other foreign currencies in the closets of some of the judges.

One of them allegedly warehoused a whopping $319,475. Another had his pockets bulging with $171,779,00. While the one shielded from arrest by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was allegedly sleeping on a colossal $2 million at home.

It is as if their lordships had secured licenses from the Central Bank to run bureau de changes. But other than interpreting the law, what else could they have been selling to come by such tidy amount at home? Could they be usurping the duty of the court registrar or the keeper of exhibits tendered by the prosecution?

This staggering haul is beside several “Ghana-Must-Go” bags stuffed with naira notes in tens of million also uncovered.

The particulars provided by the DSS are indeed too salacious. To take custody of a bribe, for instance, one of the lordships was said to have sneaked incognito into a departmental store offshore, his wrinkled face most probably hooded with a hat. Another travelled to faraway Dubai to count his own illicit dollars. When handed a report painstakingly detailing his own perfidy, another judge reportedly stopped midway and started rolling on the floor like a baby, begging the DSS boss for mercy.

Just like the case of Mrs. Patience Jonathan (a.k.a Mama Peace) which blew open last month, some of the accused were said to have quietly opened bank accounts in the names of their family members unknown to them, while they (judges) remained the sole signatories to such. Their real identities were eventually given away by the new game-changer, the BVN (Bank Verification Number.) To imagine that these same individuals were the ones who, as a duty, sat in judgement magisterially over others who commit perhaps even lesser transgression and wielded mightily the power of life and death over others.

In more ethically sensitive societies, revelations of this murky gravity would be enough to trigger national outrage, if not revolt. But in Nigeria, we seem to have grown from being un-shockable, as observed decades ago, to being complicit with cold passivity. Little wonder then the storm being contrived now over the mere ceremony of arrest rather than address the substance of the offense.

The stifling of our collective sense of outrage explains the growing epidemic of judges giving conflicting judgements without anyone showing any shame any more. It explains why the court, rather than the ballot box, is increasingly becoming the ultimate decider of who assumes political power, hence the commoditisation of judgement in the country.

The other day, it was the story of a senior lawyer wiring cash to a judge sitting over his case. When questioned, he explained it was only a “humanitarian gesture” to the recipient to cushion the expenses of a pending burial ceremony.

To be sure, there surely still exist today men and women of unimpeachable character and high integrity in both the Nigerian bar and bench. The apprehension and possible trial of the few bag eggs should therefore not be seen as an attack on the judiciary, but as a mission to redeem the polluted bar and the tainted bench.

Truth be told, the seven arrested and the eight said to be under the DSS radar cannot be said to be the only bad ones. But the first sure step to ending the culture of impunity is certainly not setting the whole community ablaze, but simply finding a scape-goat. As can be seen, the parade of suspects so far cuts across ethno-religious divides; meaning sleaze is not native to any particular location, nor is it genetic to a certain faith. The more reason all patriots should see the monster as a common enemy.

Therefore, I totally align himself with the position of the likes of Professor Akin Oyebode, Femi Falana, SAN, and Jiti Ogunye that the good lawyers and the upright judges should see the arrest of the suspects as a mission of redemption.

Just the way no reasonable society will entrust its young ones to quack teachers, no nation can afford to harbour for too long a judiciary defined by men and women of easy virtue, too eager to offer justice to the highest bidder. The judiciary is said to be the last hope of the common man. If that fails, where shall the poor, the weak turn?

‘My Wife Belongs To My Kitchen’ – Buhari Reacts To Aisha’s ‘Controversial’ BBC Interview

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted ‘satirically’ to the interview his wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari granted the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), where she questioned his leadership.

READ MORE: I May Not Support You In 2019 Election – Aisha Warns Her Husband, Buhari

Speaking on Friday to pressmen from Germany, during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Associated Press quoted the Nigerian leader as saying:

“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”

Buhari, while laughing off his initial statement, also told the reporters that he hopes his wife will remember that he ran for president three times before succeeding on the fourth attempt.

He said: “So I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition, because in the end I have succeeded. It’s not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government.”

In an interview with the BBC, Mrs. Buhari had said that the president did not know most of the top officials he had appointed.

She said: “The President does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.

“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms, only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”

She added: “He is yet to tell me (if he’ll seek re-election) but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again,”

Djokovic Stages Comeback To Advance To Semifinals Of Shanghai Masters

Featured Image

Novak Djokovic came back from a poor start to his game against Mischa Zverev to win 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 and reach the Shanghai Masters semifinals.

The Serb was slow and lacking accuracy in the early stages with his groundstrokes. The top ranked star made 14 unforced errors to Zverev’s four.

The defending champion came alive in the second set, but Zverev’s serve-and-volley style kept pushing him to make more errors.

Djokovic didn’t start to take control until the tiebreaker, which he won handily. He then got an early break in the third set and held on.

“I wasn’t striking the ball very well from the beginning of the match, to be honest,” Djokovic said. “I was quite flat with my feet, so he got me where he wanted to get me, and to stand still at the baseline.

“He was fighting. He was focused. He gave his best, and he was a few points from winning.”

Djokovic, a three-time winner in Shanghai, next plays Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals. Bautista Agut defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, last year’s runner-up, 6-3, 6-4.

Second-seeded Andy Murray was playing David Goffin in another quarterfinal later Friday, while Jack Sock was taking on Gilles Simon.

This assurance was given by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, on Thursday, when he met with a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), at the NYSC headquarters, in Abuja.

Kazaure explained that proactive efforts were being made to ensure that all prospective Corps members, eligible for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ service year, were mobilised.

According to the DG, as part of measures to facilitate the mobilisation process, all Corps Producing Institutions, have been requested to upload full list of their Senate – approved prospective corps members to the NYSC portal.

He appealed to the students’ umbrella body to cooperate with the scheme in its genuine efforts to resolve all issues relating to hitch-free mobilisation of prospective corps members for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ service year.

This is coming on the back of rumours that only 86, 000 would be mobilised for the 2016 Batch B Orientation, from the massive backlog on queue for the national assignment.

The rumours had blamed the truncation to financial constraints occasioned by recession.

NJC Berates DSS Over Arrest Of Judges; Says It Is An Insult To Nigerian Judiciary [Full Statement]

Featured Image

The National Judicial Council (NJC), on Thursday night, October 13, reacted in a statement to the recent invasion of residences and arrest of judges by the Department of State Services, (DSS).

Read full statement below:

At its last Emergency Meeting which was held on 11th October, 2016, Council decided among other matters, as follows:

READ ALSO: SSS Releases All Detained Judges On Self Recognition

That the National Judicial Council is a creation, by virtue of Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, with its powers specified in Paragraph 21 of Part One of the Third Schedule whereof.

That by virtue of Section 160 of the 1999 Constitution, Council fashioned out:
i)  Judicial Discipline Regulations;

ii) Revised NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record;

iii) Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and
iv) National Judicial Policy
to inter-alia, regulate its own procedure while exercising its Constitutional Powers.

3. That Section 158 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, has unequivocally provided for the independence of the National Judicial Council vis-à-vis directing or controlling it by any authority or person while exercising its powers.

4. Reiterated its absolute confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari Administration and its unwavering determination to uphold the Principles of Democracy, Separation of Powers and the Rule of Law enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended and the United Nations Charter, which Nigeria is a Member.

5. That it shall continue to support the President Buhari Administration in its fight against corruption in all its ramifications in the Federation; and in cleansing the Judiciary of corrupt Judicial Officers.

6. However, expresses its grave concern on the recent invasion of the Residences and arrest of some serving and suspended Judicial Officers by the Department of State Services (“DSS”); and condemned the action in its entirety.

7. Viewed the action as a threat to the Independence of the Judiciary, which portends great danger to our democracy; and also considered the action as a clear attempt by the DSS to humiliate, intimidate, denigrate and cow the Judiciary.

The Public is aware that Hon. Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was arrested after his House was invaded by heavily armed and masked operatives of the Department of States Security on Friday 7th October, 2016. The operatives did not leave his house until 12.00 noon of the following day, when he was whisked away to the (“DSS”) office.

The Residence of Hon. Justice Inyang Okoro, a Justice of Supreme Court of Nigeria, was raided in the same manner and was arrested by the same operatives of the DSS.

Contrary to the claim by the DSS and as published in the electronic and print media, Council has never received any petition against the aforesaid Judicial Officers: Hon. Justices Ngwuta and Okoro of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, by the DSS.

At its Meeting which was held on 29th September, 2016, Council had found His Lordship culpable of professional misconduct contrary to Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the provisions of Section 292 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Accordingly, he was recommended to Mr President for compulsory retirement from office following the petition written by one Mr Nnamdi Iro Oji for demanding the sum of N200,000,000.00 (Two Hundred Million Naira) bribe. It is to be stressed that from the evidence before the Council, Hon. Justice Ladan Tsamiya did not receive N200m bribe. The Petitioner adduced evidence to support his allegation that Hon. Justice Tsamiya only demanded for the money.

In the exercise of its power, Council had suspended Justice Tsamiya from office, pending when the President will act on the recommendation. And Mr. President has approved the recommendation of the Council and compulsorily retired His Lordship from office yesterday, the 12th day of October, 2016.

Hon. Justice I. A. Umezulike, OFR, Chief Judge, Enugu State, was recommended for compulsory retirement from office to Enugu State Governor for gross misconduct, pursuant to the petition written against him by Mr. Peter Eze.

In the meantime, National Judicial Council has suspended His Lordship from office pending when the Governor of Enugu State will act on its recommendation.

Hon. Justice A. F. A. Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division has been petitioned by Hon. Jenkins Duviegiane Gwebe on allegations bordering on corrupt practices.
Currently, a Committee of the Council is investigating the allegations.
There is no other petition against Hon. Justice Ademola from DSS pending at the National Judicial Council.

Hon. Justice Kabiru Auta was investigated by Council based on allegations of corrupt practices levelled against him in a petition forwarded to Council by one Alhaji Kabiru Yakassai. His Lordship was recommended to the Governor of Kano State for removal from office by dismissal. Council wrote separately to the AIG Kano Zone 1, for Police to prosecute Hon. Justice Auta.

Council has suspended His Lordship from office pending when the Governor will act on its recommendation.

The DSS petitioned the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council alleging corrupt practices against Hon. Justice Pindiga, inter-alia:-

“i) That the Hon. Judge in a bid to illegally enrich himself, perfected plans through third party proxies/conduits, with a view to influencing the outcome of the Election Tribunal in the governorship polls in favour of the incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike.

ii) That further ongoing discreet investigation, Justice Pindiga is observed to have illegally enriched himself through corrupt means. Part of the illegitimate proceeds suspected to have accrued to Pindiga includes the underlisted:
a) Two (2) completed blocks of six (6) units 2 bedroom flats in Federal Low Cost Estate in Gombe metropolis;
b) Four (4) units of bungalow in another part of the Estate;
c) An uncompleted property at GRA in Gombe Metropolis;
d) a Mercedes Benz C300 car in the name of MUBAJJAL;
e) A Toyota Venza-Model SUV.

READ ALSO: Buhari Finally Breaks Silence On The Arrest Of 7 Judges

iii) From all indications, it is apparent that Pindiga, who is a very Senior Justice in Gombe State, is highly corrupt. His continuous stay as a Justice in any capacity would likely embarrass the current administration and pervert the cause of justice. In view of the foregoing, it is strongly advised that immediate necessary administrative and judicial measures be taken on him, including appropriate sanctions and trial to set a precedent to others of his like”.

The complaint containing the allegations of corrupt practices against the Hon. Judge were conveyed in a letter Ref No. DGSS71/3161 and dated 26th February, 2016, written by the DSS to the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council. The petition was not supported by a verifying affidavit deposed to by the DSS, as required by the National Judicial Council Discipline Regulations 2014. The Petition should have been disregarded for non-compliance with the National Judicial Council Regulations, but by letter Ref. No. NJC/S.15/HC.GM/5/1/128 dated 19th April, 2016, the DSS was notified and requested to comply and to depose to a verifying affidavit in support of the allegations of corrupt practices levelled against the Hon. Judge.
By letter Ref No. LSD.232/4/68 dated 6th May, 2016, to the Council, the DSS deposed to a verifying affidavit in respect of the allegations against Justice Pindiga.

On the directive of the Council, Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga responded to the allegations against him by DSS. Thereafter, a Committee comprising Members of the Council investigated the allegations of corrupt practices.

Both Parties – The DSS and Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, together with their witnesses and counsel appeared before the Panel set up by Council in compliance with the National Judicial Discipline Regulations and Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, on the Right to Fair Hearing.

The DSS was represented by a Director, S. U. Gambo, Esq. who is also a Legal Practitioner in the Department and Hon Justice Pindiga was represented by Joe Agi, SAN.

At the end of the investigation, the DSS could not substantiate any of the allegations of corrupt practices either by documentary or oral evidence against the Hon. Justice Pindiga.

Consequently, at its Meeting of 15th July, 2016, Council decided to exonerate Hon. Justice Pindiga of the allegations of corrupt practices levelled against him by DSS.

The Council’s decision was conveyed to Hon. Justice Pindiga in a letter Ref. No. NJC/HC.GM/5/1/132 of 9th August, 2016 and copied the DSS.

Council is aware that DSS had written a complaint alleging corrupt practices and professional misconduct against Hon. Justice Dimgba by a letter Ref. No. LSD.158/2/31 dated 5th August, 2016.

At its Meeting of 29th September, 2016, Council constituted a Fact Finding Committee comprising its Members to investigate the allegation.

During the last Emergency Meeting of the Council, it received a Report from Hon. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba that his Residence was also raided and ransacked; and in the process, his nephew and driver were man-handled, using a wrong search warrant which was not meant for the search of his house.
The Committee has commenced the process of investigating the allegations before the recent unfortunate raid and search of Hon. Justice Dimgba’s Residence.

9. Council meticulously considered the entire unfolding events that led to the arrest of the Judicial Officers and the misinformation and disinformation making rounds in both Electronic and Print Media that the DSS acted thus because the National Judicial Council was shielding the Judicial Officers from investigation and prosecution for corrupt practices and professional misconduct.

10. Council noted particularly, that from the available records, the DSS forwarded only two(2 no.) separate complaints containing allegations of Corrupt Practices against Hon. Justice Pindiga; and corrupt practices and professional misconduct against Hon. Justice Dimgba.

11. The impression created and widely circulated before the public, that the DSS forwarded a number of petitions containing various allegations of corrupt practices and professional misconduct against some Judicial Officers to the Council, and they were not investigated, is not correct. The Council urges the DSS to make public the particulars of such petitions to put the records straight.

12. Given the above background facts, on behalf of the Judiciary, Council is constrained to inform the general public that all petitions and complaints forwarded against Judicial Officers bordering on corrupt practices and professional misconduct, have been attended to and investigated, where applicable, by Council since year 2000 to date, within the powers conferred on it by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

  1. Therefore, any Judicial Officer that was reprimanded by Council or recommended for removal from office by compulsory retirement or dismissal to the President or Governor, was done in compliance with the Constitutional power, Rule of Law and Due Process.

  2. From year 2000, when the National Judicial Council held its inaugural Meeting to 2016, 1808 petitions and complaints against Judicial Officers, including Chief Justices of Nigeria, Justices of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal were received by the respective Honourable, the Chief Justices of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council. Eighty-two (82 No.) of the Judicial Officers were reprimanded (suspension, caution or warning), by Council, in the exercise of its exclusive Constitutional Disciplinary power over Judicial Officers.

Thirty-eight (38 No.) of the Judicial Officers were recommended to the President or Governor where applicable, for compulsory retirement from office; while twelve (12 No.) were recommended to the President or Governor as the case may be, for dismissal from office.

In conclusion, Council wishes to state as follows:-

That it maintains its earlier decision that no Judicial Officer shall be invited by any Institution including the DSS, without complying with the Rule of Law and Due Process. That explains why when the DSS wrote to the Council by letter Ref. No. LSC.960/4 dated 14th September, 2016, to direct Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga to appear before it, The Hon. The Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council directed the Hon. Chief Judge of Gombe State to ask Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga to report to DSS, which His Lordship did.

That the National Judicial Council has never shielded nor will it shield any Judicial Officer who has committed any misconduct.

3) That the Department of State Services is an Agency in the Presidency and its functions as specified in the statute establishing it, is primarily concerned with the internal security of the Country.

4) That the action of the DSS is a denigration of the entire Judiciary, as an institution.

5) That by the act of the DSS, Judicial Officers are now being subjected to insecurity, as criminals might take advantage of the recent incidents to invade their residences under the guise of being security agents.

6) The Council vehemently denounces a situation whereby the Psyche of Judicial Officers in the Federation is subjected to a level where they would be afraid to discharge their Constitutional judicial functions, without fear or favour, intimidation, victimization or suppression.

7) The Council will not compromise the integrity and impartiality of the Judiciary.

8) The Council wishes to reassure the public that any person who has a genuine complaint against any Judicial Officer is at liberty to bring it up to the Council for consideration, after following due process vide its Judicial Discipline Regulations.

9) At the end of the Meeting, Council unanimously agreed to recommend Hon. Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, CFR, as the most senior, suitable and competent Justice of the Supreme Court to President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria to succeed Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed GCON who retires from office on 10th November, 2016.

I May Not Support You In 2019 Election – Aisha Warns Her Husband, Buhari

Aisha Buhari, the First Lady of Nigeria has warned her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari that she may not support him at the 2019 election unless he shakes up his government.

The wife of the president, in an interview granted to BBC Hausa, said the president “does not know” most of the top officials he appointed to office.

She said: “The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”

“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”

Buhari is yet to indicate whether or not he will seek re-election, and according to his wife, he has not told his family too.

“He is yet to tell me (if he’ll seek re-election) but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again,” she said.

The First Lady refused to name those who had hijacked the government, saying:

“You will know them if you watch television.”

On whether the president was in charge, she said:

“That is left for the people to decide.”

One name that has been repeatedly mentioned as having a strong influence in Mr. Buhari’s appointments is his cousin, Mamman Daura.

Daura holds no official position, but is said to be the most powerful man in the presidency and is said to have Mr. Buhari’s ears.

Rumours had filtered within the Presidential Villa of him having clashes with Mrs. Buhari over his influence on the president.

Also, in the interview with the Hausa service of the BBC, Mrs. Buhari broke words of somethings which may have caused silent anger amongst some leaders of the ruling party, APC.

She said some of the president’s appointees did not share the vision of his party and were appointed because of the influence of a “few people.”

“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position,” she said.

Pique Opens Up About Van Gaal Ridiculing Him At Barcelona

Featured Image

Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique has revealed how he was ridiculed and told he was not good enough for the club by Van Gaal.

The centre back talks about how Van Gaal, who was manager then, pushed him to the floor and told him he won’t make it at the club.

Speaking to TV3 , Pique said: “You never knew if he would be the first-team coach when you got there. He pushed me, he threw me to the floor. He told me I wasn’t strong enough to be a Barcelona player.

“He destroyed me. At Barcelona we didn’t do gym work until the age of 18. That was really hard.”

Pique has since gone on to prove Van Gaal’s assessment wrong, enjoying a trophy-laden spell with the Catalan giants.

The 29-year-old has made over 300 appearances in all competitions for the club and helped them win several honours including six Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

Marcus Rashford has made his heart’s desire known, and it is to lift the UCL trophy with Manchester United.

The teenage sensation has impressed since making his EPL debut, earning a call up to the England squad within six months of it.

And even though Red Devils are not playing in the UCL, Rashford still has time to see his dream realised.

Westbrook Finds KD’s Selfless Comment About Warriors ‘Cute’

Featured Image

I expected this back and forth between KD and Westbrook and it as cute as the simple comment the Thunder’s Guard had for Durant’s recent Warriors evaluation.

Kevin Durant recently made a comment about the Golden State Warriors, praising them for their “selfless” environment.

“That’s cute,” Westbrook said. “Cute.”

Durant was asked earlier this week why he chose the Warriors during free agency.

“I feel really grateful to play for a team like that and play with a bunch of players who are selfless and enjoy the game in its purest form,” Durant said. “They make it about the players, they make it about the environment, so it was really an easy choice.”

Westbrook, after being read Durant’s answer verbatim at shootaround on Thursday, was asked whether he felt like it was a shot at him or the Thunder franchise.

“But my job is to worry about what’s going on here,” Westbrook said. “We’re going to worry about all the selfish guys we have over here apparently. So we’re going to figure that out.”

And when asked Thursday whether it’s difficult not to take every comment Durant says as a jab at the Thunder.

“I don’t care,” Westbrook said. “To me, it doesn’t matter. My job is to worry about here. Honestly, I’m really tired of talking about it. So, anytime anyone asks me another question, I’m just not going to answer.”

The Thunder and Warriors play Nov. 3.

Guardiola Can Change The Mentality Of English Football, Says Xavi

Featured Image

Former Barcelona captain and veteran midfielder Xavi is confident in Guardiola’s ability to shake up English football.

Xavi, 36, who currently plies his trade for Al Sadd SC won 14 major titles under the Spaniard over four seasons.

He told BBC World Football: “If there is one person who can change the mentality of English players, of English football, it’s Pep Guardiola.

“He is one of the best coaches. He could do a big revolution.”

The former Barcelona coach stringed 10 straight wins together, before losing to Tottenham before the international break.

“If you see the games of Manchester City you can see his style,” Xavi said.

“As a player he was a big reference for my career, and as a coach.

“We made history with him in Barcelona. Barcelona always have the best coaches but Guardiola made a revolution; not only at Barcelona but across the world.

“When you see him on the bench you can see his passion for football. I know him and I know he can do it.”

ICYMI: Kyrgios Fined By ATP For Unsportsmanlike Behaviour

Featured Image

The ATP has slammed a $16,500 fine on Nick Kyrgios for violating the association’s code of conduct due to his unruly behaviour during a boring second-round loss to Mischa Zverev at the Shanghai Masters.

The ATP announced the Australian tennis star got the maximum $10,000 fine for a “lack of best efforts” in the match, a $5,000 fine for verbal abuse of a spectator and another $1,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The 21-year-old rushed the match, losing 6-3 6-1, in a match that saw his serves and groundstrokes being struck with little effort.

At a point, he walked towards his chair after sending a serve Zverev’s way without hanging around for a return.

The Australian, known for his on-court antics and frequent battles with umpires and fans, also argued with a fan who questioned his sportsmanship during the match.

While the crowd was booing and jeering Kyrgios, one man yelled, “Respect the game.” A furious Kyrgios shouted back, “You want to come here and play?”

Asked later whether he thought he owed the spectators a better effort, Kyrgios turned defiant again.

“What does that even mean? I’m good at hitting a tennis ball at the net. Big deal. I don’t owe them anything,” he said. “If you don’t like it, I didn’t ask you to come watch. Just leave.”

Last year, Kyrgios insulted Stan Wawrinka during a match in Montreal and was fined $12,500, as well as a possible 28-day suspension and a further $25,000 fine if he picked up any other major offenses over the following six months. That probation period ended in February.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic said Thursday he believed Kyrgios has some “life lessons to learn.”

“Not many great things are spoken about him lately,” Djokovic said. “I’m sorry to hear that, because I share the opinion of many players and many people in the tennis world that he’s one of the greatest talents the game has seen lately.”

Steve Bruce Ready To Forgive Gabby Agbonlahor

Featured Image

New Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce could be ready to bring Gabby Agbonlahor in from the cold.

Agbonlahor has been banished from the first-team squad this season and has not played for the club since March.

But Bruce said: “I’m not really interested in what has happened in the past. As far as I’m concerned this is under my remit.

“Of course managers get problems to deal with but at this moment in time I’ve got none. I’ve only been here for 24 hours and as far as I’m concerned the slate is wiped clean for all of them.

“We start again tomorrow. That obviously means Gabby too. He’s had his problems and it’s fair to say he and I have got to get him into some condition, but that applies to him too.”

David Seaman Wants Arsene Wenger To Remain At Arsenal

Featured Image

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman hopes Arsene Wenger signs a new contract at the club.

Wenger’s current deal is due to expire next summer and it is not clear whether he will continue.

“For me, he is a great manager and if he signed another contract I would be delighted,” Seaman told talkSPORT. “I have worked with him, I know how good he is.”

“I wouldn’t think he would take [the England job]. Once he is done with Arsenal, I think that might be it. He might take a step back into a director of football role.

“I just think the England job might be too much for him. I have seen Arsene from when he first came to Arsenal to where is now and when you watch him on the bench, he is more animated, he loses his temper and throws water bottles, and I think that is not the Arsene Wenger I know.”

Seaman won two Premier League titles under Wenger at Arsenal.

Claudio Ranieri : Riyad Mahrez Never Bothered Me

Featured Image

Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he was never concerned Riyad Mahrez would leave Leicester in the summer.

There was speculation that Mahrez would quit the Foxes to join Arsenal.

But Foxes boss Ranieri said today: “Never did he suggest he wanted to go to Arsenal. We were pleased to keep hold of our players, we made something special last season and we wanted to keep everybody.”

”Only one went out, that is okay. I am very happy with all my players. The new, to the experienced, everybody.

“It wasn’t so difficult to persuade Riyad to sign. I explained what our project is, he is one of our main players, and he is happy with us.”

Ranieri admitted he may rotate his squad at Chelsea on Saturday ahead of Leicester’s next Champions League group game at home to FC Copenhagen on Tuesday.

That could mean England midfielder Danny Drinkwater being rested at Stamford Bridge despite being fit again after a groin injury.

Birmingham Manager Gary Rowsett Cautious About Takeover

Featured Image

Birmingham boss Gary Rowett says he is enthused by the club’s impending takeover, but has warned against getting too carried away.

The club is set to be taken over on Monday when Birmingham International Holdings Limited (BIHL) resumes trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Rowett told the club website: “We’ve seen too many owners go into clubs, blow a fortune and then three years later be in a completely different position.

“I know there’s an excitement at your owners doing that, but I also think there’s an excitement about hoping you can keep improving because if you’re sat sixth in the Championship and you keep improving then at some point you’re going to have a very good chance of getting into the Premier League.

“I hope there’s a really positive impact in terms of them coming in, but I don’t think I’m suddenly going to be sat here with a £10m training base in a year’s time and £10m to spend on one player and vast amounts on wages.”

Gordon Strachan To Remain As Scotland Coach… For Now

Featured Image

According to various reports Gordon Strachan will stay on as Scotland manager.

There been reports that he could face losing his job after the 3-0 defeat to Slovakia in midweek.

But he will continue in the role and there are no plans to discuss his future.

If Scotland are beaten by England on 11 November it is likely that Strachan will leave his post, almost certainly by mutual consent. The team would be six points behind the group leaders in that case with only one victory, against Malta, from four qualifiers.

Strachan was always due to hold talks with the SFA on Thursday for a post-match debrief and the conversations followed a scheduled board meeting at which his position was discussed.

The governing body’s directors want to give him the opportunity to turn around the team’s fortunes at Wembley. They are also aware that it will be much easier to find a suitable replacement in the four and half months between the England game and the next competitive match, at home to Slovenia on 26 March, than it would be before the match in London.

Strachan, who signed a two-year contract extension last summer, tried to accentuate the positives after the defeat in Slovakia. “We are one point off a play-off place,” he said. “It is a crazy group.”

Neymar: Tite Can End Brazil’s World Cup Drought

Featured Image

Brazil forward Neymar is confident in coach Tite’s ability to help Brazil claim glory at the world cup in Russia.

The former Corinthians manager replaced Dunga at Brazil’s helm following a disappointing Copa America Centenario outing.

Brazil has notched four wins from the four world cup qualifying matches, sitting a point above Uruguay.

Barcelona attacker Neymar has been impressed by his impact and is optimistic about Brazil’s chances of ending a 16-year wait for a World Cup win at Russia 2018.

“The arrival of Tite has changed the national team, but not the environment,” he said.

“Tite has surprised me a lot as a coach. He is one of the most prepared and one of the best I’ve ever worked with.

“It is great to play under Tite. I’m very sure he will take us to the World Cup, perhaps even to a title.

“I think he’s organising the the whole setup, doing everything just right.”

Swansea’s New Manager Bob Bradley Opens Up About MLS Coaches And Fitness Concerns

Featured Image

Bob Bradley believes his appointment as Swansea head coach will help pave the way for more managers from Major League Soccer to work in the Premier League.

Former USA manager Bradley is the first American to manage a Premier League team, after leaving French club Le Havre to replace the sacked Francesco Guidolin.

“We’re still growing as a football country. We’ve made progress,” said Bradley. “When MLS grows, some big names start to play there, the attention gets bigger rather than just every four years, but we’re still growing.

“I’m one of the older coaches and you have to work and get experience to hope to get an opportunity, but there are other coaches who are going in the right direction. [Numbers of] players and coaches, referees, fans, journalists are growing.”

Speaking ahead of his first game in charge, Saturday’s clash at Arsenal, Bradley said: “Getting fitness levels back up is 100% a target.

“There are different styles of managers, everybody finds a way that works for them, but I still believe that football fitness and sharpness comes largely from training.

“The players have been incredibly respectful towards Francesco, but I think you would also find that they felt that kind of training had gone away a little bit.

“So, when I talk about the good response I’ve had so far, I think the way I have always done training and the different ideas I have, fits with how they think it needs to be done.

“I have not sat down with them to hear how Brendan Rodgers or Roberto Martinez, or Michael Laudrup did it, but I’m sure there will be similarities. My sense is that the sharpness, the extra bit of fitness and quickness – some of them felt that dropped a little bit.

“We are trying hard to re-establish training that is going to bring that back to a really good level.”

“It’s exciting to step over that threshold into management, and I’m looking forward to working with this group of players that has done so well so far.
