Mrs. Fani-Kayode, who was in Ado-Ekiti as a guest of Governor Ayodele Fayose, had gone to Access Bank branch in Ado Ekiti around 3pm for transactions when she was detained by officials of the bank acting on the orders of the EFCC.

It was gathered that she sensed something strange was going on when she was not being promptly attended to.

Upon inquiry from an official, she was told she was being detained on the instruction of the premier anti graft agency.

It then dawn on the nursing mother, who had come to the banking hall with her eight month old baby that she had to call for help.

The timely intervention of Governor Fayose secured her release as the state executive of Ekiti state stormed the bank with some of his supporters around 7 pm.

After the incident, Mrs. Fani-Kayode told pressmen that she was badly treated by the officials while her baby was denied food.

She said: “I’m not a politician and that account had been dormant for about five years. I only activated it last month in Port Harcourt.

“I decided to go to Access Bank to make some withdrawals when I was detained on the instruction of the EFCC.

“They told me account had been frozen and they were asked by the EFCC to arrest me on the spot.”

Her husband, Fani-Kayode, also released a press statement as regards to the incident.4369001_cymera20161017214206_jpegd533ebec4bf4d2779f58482a151b7af3

Liverpool 0 – 0 Manchester United: Red Monday Ends In Stalemate

Featured Image

The widely anticipated first meeting of the season between Liverpool and Manchester United didn’t live up to the hype, ending in a goalless draw.

Liverpool were playing for the chance to move to joint top of the league, but were constantly kept at bay by David De Gea. The Spaniard showed his class by denying Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho with great saves in the second half.

Manchester United also had a chance to win thrown away by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was lacklustre in front of goal all day. The draw means Liverpool remain in 4th position, and United remain 3 spots below in 7th.

Jurgen Klopp was forced to give starting roles to Daniel Sturridge and Can, with Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum having fitness issues. United boss Jose Mourinho continued to bench Wayne Rooney, with Ashley Young given his first start of the season.

Man Asks Court To Dissolve His Marriage Because His Wife Cheats On Their Matrimonial Bed

Featured Image

Kingsley Agina, a businessman, approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Monday to help dissolve his 10-year-old marriage to his wife, Obianju.

Kingsley accused his wife of bringing men to their matrimonial bed for sex. The 49-year-old father of four also added that he believed his wife poisons his food.

“My wife is promiscuous; she used to bring men into my house to sleep with them, whenever I travel abroad for business.” He said. “There was a day I came back from my business trip, I discovered that my glass center table was broken. I asked my daughter who broke it, she told me that it was one uncle her mother brought home that broke it.”

“There was also a day I discovered that my bed was shaking, I called a carpenter to come and repair it. But when we lifted the bed up, we saw several used tissue paper under the bed.” He added.

Mr Agina alleged that his wife occasionally took money from his account with his ATM card to give to her boyfriends.

“Since year 2008, I have noticed that my food was being laced with poison, which has resulted to my deteriorating health; I could not sleep nor walk. I have spent about N5 million on medical treatment, but I never get well in fact my health is getting worst. My mother-in-law is a native doctor, she has a shrine; she has been the one giving her daughter poison to kill me so that they can inherit my property.” He told the court.

Kingsley begged the court to dissolve the marriage on the ground of lack of love. However, Obianju, 35, denied all the allegations saying her husband was the promiscuous one.

“My husband brings home different girls of different sizes and colours. I once saw condom in his bag so I went to buy him a packet of condom and gave him. He queried me on my action and I told him that he needs it, so that he will not contact any disease to infect me. I have been faithful to our marital vow; I have never had sex with any other man. My husband married me a virgin at the age of 25.”

The mother of four also said that she never poisoned her husband. “How will I poison the father of my children, what do I stand to gain, my hands are clean, I don’t know how poison got into his body.”. On the matter of the money she withdrew from his account, she told the court the N100,000 was for the upkeep of the house.

She made a pleaded to the court against dissolving the marriage saying she still loved her husband.

The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the couple adjourned the case to Dec. 6 for judgment.

Russell Crowe Threw Azealia Banks Out Of His Hotel Dinner Party

Featured Image

Oscar Award winner, Russell Crowe planned a fun dinner night at his hotel suite for himself and a couple friends so he invited just 10 people including his good friend, rapper RZA.

The Wu-Tang clan member RZA brought along a date, young controversial rapper Azealia Banks.

The plan was for Russell and his few friends to hang, eat good food and listen to good music. Sadly that didn’t go to plan.

According to TMZ ;

“Eyewitness accounts the trouble started when Azealia laughed out loud at Russell’s music selection, and then called him and at least one other guest, “boring white men.” We’re told a female guest jumped to Russell’s defense and suggested Banks pipe down. Instead, we’re told she made an insane speech/threat to Crowe and the woman …”You would love it if I broke my glass, stabbed you guys in the throat, and blood would squirt everywhere like some real Tarantino s***.” Then for good measure, witnesses say she dropped a few n-bombs … yet Crowe remained surprisingly calm”

Azealia then attempted to throw her glass, that was when she was grabbed by Crowe who carried her out of the suite. He called hotel security guards who proceeded to remove Azealia from the grounds.

However, Banks went on Facebook and narrated a totally different story which has been deleted now saying “I went to a party at Russell Crowe’s suite, at which he called me a n****r, choked me, threw me out and spat at me. Last night was one of the hardest nights of sleep I’ve had in along time. The men in the room allowed it to happen. I feel terrible today.”

In another post, also deleted, she wrote: “I wish I had someone to beat him up for me.”

Rapper Murs Sets Guinness World Record For Longest Rap Marathon

Featured Image

Veteran Los Angeles rapper and founding member of Living Legends crew, Murs currently holds the world record for longest rap marathon, after rapping for more than 24 hours straight.

He started at 9am on Wednesday, October 12 and ended at 11am on Thursday, October 13.

Taking only 5-minute breaks once every hour, the rapper performed his songs as well as hundreds of classic rap songs from other artistes like Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, E-40, Xzibit, Too $hort and Ice Cube e.t.c.

To ensure that his performance met requirements set forth by the governing body at Guinness World of Records, Murs reportedly had professionals on scene to track his progress.

Murs rapped his way through ‘80s and ‘90s hip-hop classics, showcasing an impressive mix of endurance and stylistic malleability in the process.

Throughout the marathon, the seemingly inexhaustible Murs effortlessly mimicked legendary rappers as he performed their timeless songs without missing a beat.

It’s worth noting that Murs’ record is for “marathon rapping” and not freestyle. As the Guinness World Record for the longest freestyle belongs to Chiddy Bang who freestyled for over nine hours back in 2011.

Phil Collins Announces Comeback With European Tour

Featured Image

British singer Phil Collins on Monday announced that he is coming out of retirement after 10 years with a comeback tour next summer in London, Paris and Cologne.

The veteran star will play five nights in London followed by two dates each in Paris and Cologne, as part of his European tour in June, titled “Not Dead Yet, Live”.

Collins announced his retirement in 2011, after nerve damage left him unable to play the drums, but revealed last year he planned to go on tour.

The 65-year-old, rock veteran, whose hits include “In The Air Tonight” and “Another Day In Paradise”, spoke openly about his struggle with alcoholism since his last tour almost 10 years ago.

He said: “I stopped work because I wanted to be a dad at home. As bad luck would have it, as soon as I retired, my family split up.”

He continued while speaking to a press conference at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where the tour will kick off:

“I didn’t have anything to go home to really. That’s when I started drinking.”

He also stated that he would practice the iconic drum riff to In The Air Tonight on “a drum kit in the garage” as that was “something I feel I should do.

“It’s just a question of getting strength back.”

Collins further said his 15-year-old son Nicholas, who also plays drums, will be performing with him.

“Nicholas is in the learning stage, and he’s already a fantastic drummer,” he said.

Collins, who enjoyed more UK top 40 singles than any other artist of the 1980s, first came to prominence as the drummer and then frontman of Genesis.

Mkhitaryan Will Not Return To Dortmund, Confirms Watzke

Featured Image

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has stated Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be returning the club after a stumbling start to life at United.

The Armenia international joined Manchester United in the summer from Dortmund for a fee of £26.3m.

When asked if there would be an opportunity for Mkhitaryan to return, Watzke said: “No. Any intelligent player should consider in advance what kind of environment they are moving to.

“When you are playing in surroundings where things are working for you, like in Dortmund, then it is quite strange to give that away again once things have finally started to work out for you after a long time settling in.”

Watzke played down suggestions the player’s agent Mino Raiola encouraged Mhkitaryan to move, insisting the Armenian made up his own mind.

“In Mkhitaryan’s case it was the player’s decision,” he added. “Raiola is intelligent, and he’s a brute.

“He has a certain business model, but we knew that already when we sat down because of Mkhitaryan. You know what you have with him. Raiola acted correctly.”

When It Comes To The Spiritual Side Of Aso Villa, The Devil Is In The Details

When It Comes To The Spiritual Side Of Aso Villa, The Devil Is In The Details By Ayo Adene

An article titled The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa by former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati, was published nationwide on October 14, 2016. In his opinion, Abati stated that in addition to what that the ordinary eye could see, Nigerians are governed by malevolent forces.

This piece was written by Ayo Adene. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The Danger of a Single Story

In 2009 the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave a famous TED talk called “The Danger of a Single Story.” It was about what happens when complex human beings and situations are reduced to a single narrative; such as explaining away politics in a multiethnic, multi-religious developing country like Nigeria as witchcraft. When we hear the same story over and over again, it becomes the only story we ever believe. All of us, men, women, children, old, young, educated, illiterate, rich and poor are impressionable and vulnerable in the face of a single story. Therefore, I shall attempt to approach this rejoinder by showing that there may be alternative explanations for the strange things that are going on in Aso Villa and that sticking to the single story of witchcraft only feeds into a tendency that many Nigerians have for explaining difficult questions through a supernatural prism.

Why are Nigerians dying?

In his article, Abati makes reference to the frequent cases of deaths among high office holders and members of their families. For instance, while in office, the president under whom Abati served lost a dear uncle. Meanwhile, his wife was severally hospitalized abroad. Also, his predecessor died in office after a protracted illness, while the predecessor of that one sadly lost his wife too.

On the surface, this political history appears to corroborate the assertion that there are unexplained forces at play in the corridors of power. However, when examined more critically, the frequent cases of death in high places are in keeping with the general experience of the non-political Nigerian public. It is on record that Nigeria has one of the world’s highest mortality rates. The mortality rate, or death rate, is a measure of the number of deaths in a particular population per unit of time. Another useful indicator is a statistical measure of the average time a person is expected to live, based on the year of their birth and their sex. This is called the life expectancy, and Nigeria has one of the lowest rates of life expectancy in the world.

Mortality rates and life expectancy are also used when comparing nations, as indicators of human development. For instance, in Nigeria, the mortality rate is 13 per 1000 people, compared with 9 in Ghana, 8 in the Netherlands, and 7 in China. Likewise, the total life expectancy in Nigeria is 53 years, compared with 61 in Ghana, in 76 in China and 81 in the Netherlands.

In Nigeria, the commonest causes of death are Malaria (20% of all deaths), bleeding during pregnancy or labor, asphyxiation during childbirth, being an infant, having cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, and road-traffic accidents. Right now there is a famine in the North-East, as well as an epidemic of polio. Nigeria is only one of three countries on earth where polio remains out of control. However, all of these causes of death are preventable with good health systems.

Lifestyles of the rich and famous

The combination of unhealthy eating habits, sedentary lifestyles and lack of active exercise by many Nigerians, causes certain medical conditions known as diseases of lifestyle. These include heart, liver and kidney diseases. Among the elite, having a round figure or big belly is considered to be evidence of good living. Whereas, the truth is that accumulation of fat around the waistline, otherwise known as truncal obesity, is a proven precursor to heart attacks and the onset of deadly liver diseases.

Leisure malls are springing up in our major cities. On the one hand, this is an indicator of a growing middle class- but getting richer also means there is an epidemiological transition from predominantly infectious diseases like malaria to chronic diseases like atherosclerosis, diabetes, and cancer. What do Nigerians consider to be good food? Middle-class Nigerian diets are often high in salt, saturated fatty acids and red meat. Besides, who has ever seen a vegan or vegetarian restaurant in Nigeria?

Last year, it was reported that Nigerians are the second highest consumers of Champagne in the world after France. Wines and spirits contain alcohol, which is a proven precursor of liver damage. I should know about liver disease – my grandfather, who died before I was born, was described as being yellow in the eyes and skin. This yellowness is called jaundice and is a major feature of the liver disease. While rich Nigerians buy expensive bottles of imported Gin & Whisky, poor people can only afford the less refined and more toxic versions, such as the local Burukutu. If they should die suddenly, their deaths are likely to be attributed to supernatural causes, and not a chronic liver disease.

What about active exercise? If a Nigerian is seen jogging along the street, it is assumed he or she is elite. A gym membership in Nigeria is considered an elite privilege, which the man on the street cannot afford. Meanwhile, fully equipped gyms are the norm on every street in Europe, just like churches are common on every street in Nigeria. Our sedentary lifestyles also mean we value air conditioned homes, offices, and cars, plus servile lower class staff who carry our bags and fetch everything for us. This is especially true of the people who can be found in the corridors of power. Therefore, if a study were to be conducted on risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, it would probably result in a higher cohort of people at risk of sudden death within Aso Villa than on the streets of Ajegunle or Sabon Gari.

The state of Nigeria’s infrastructure

Every year, an estimated 335,000 Nigerian children die of water-borne diseases. The most common waterborne diseases in Nigeria include Cholera, Guinea Worm, Hepatitis, and Typhoid.  All of these are caused by contaminated water, and by extension, lack of hygiene. In Nigeria, one cannot drink water from the tap unless you boil it. Yet, clean water is something people in other countries take for granted.

Living in Nigeria can be very stressful. The stress of our jobs, the noise of car horns and megaphones, the smoke from vehicle and generator exhaust pipes, and the stress of long hours in traffic only to come home to houses without electricity, raises the levels of a hormone called Cortisol. This hormone is essential for fighting stress. However, raised levels of stress-induced cortisol are also responsible for speeding up the process of aging and chronic diseases.

Stress is a known causative factor for repressed sexual function. Middle-aged to elderly high-level businessmen or politicians, who work in a “pressure cooker” environment and have sleepless nights, are at higher risk of erectile dysfunction. This is because the autonomic nervous pathways to having an erection are also actively involved in the human stress response. Therefore, sexual symptoms are also likely to improve once the affected person withdraws from the stress-inducing environment.

How about road accidents and plane crashes? Nigeria actually dedicates surgical wards in major hospitals to the care of people who suffer from injuries caused by commercial motorcyclists known as Okada, such as the Okada Ward in the National Orthopedic Hospital in Igbobi, Lagos. The odds are that convoys of top politicians are more likely to behave lawlessly and drive recklessly. Other road users are expected to get out of the way at the sound of a siren, with whip-wielding gunmen hanging out of the windows and sides of over-speeding government vehicles. According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), ten thousand and fifty Nigerians die every year in road accidents, not counting hundreds of victims who are severely injured or permanent disabled during such road accidents. Statistically, there are 27 deaths caused by road traffic accidents every day in Nigeria. According to the FRSC, 50% of road crashes in Nigeria are due to over speeding. The rest are due to poorly maintained roads and poor vehicle maintenance. When you couple this with the lack of emergency facilities needed to urgently transport and resuscitate accident victims, and the obstructive bureaucracy and helplessness encountered at the emergency units of most hospitals, Nigeria alone has about ten percent of all deaths due to road traffic accidents in the world.

We also have airplanes and helicopters crashing regularly in a country where, for instance, public officials are currently on trial for diverting public funds into their personal bank accounts. It should be a no-brainer. Special landing approaches into the high-velocity wind, slippery runways or mountains require additional training with expensive flight simulators, such as those used by pilots approaching Schiphol airport in the Netherlands. It’s a no-brainer: air safety comes at a cost, but that’s not where Nigeria’s money is going.

What about sudden fire incidents in houses when the building materials we use in Nigeria do not meet global fire-safety standards? Or we cannot guarantee the quality of the electrical wiring installed in our homes? Or avoid circuit overload and power surges due to appliance overload or generator usage? Did you know that the metal barricades that are normally built into Nigerian homes to keep thieves out are an obstruction to fire safety during emergencies?

The Conclusion of the Matter

The human mind is designed to construct evidence for whatever it believes. So if you believe witchcraft is the answer, you will most likely find evidence to support it. If the Nigerian president has made one mistake after another while in Aso Villa, it would be uncharitable to conclude that these mistakes are all due to witches without critical thinking.  First of all, a president needs to have powerful ideas. Secondly, he needs to be surrounded by highly reasonable advisers. On the contrary, there are myriad self-interested political elite surrounding the Nigerian President and restraining every possible good deed. If the president’s ideas are scuttled by widespread corrupt practices, a substandard cabinet, a hostile political environment, and poor quality of ideas, these can seem like evidence of dark forces at play. However, the truth is that the president who will rule Nigeria successfully needs tremendous courage and fresh insight to change the way our political system works.

Moving forward, Nigeria needs leaders who point us forward with ideas, rather than backward with superstition. Only last week, American president Barack Obama gave a scientific interview to Wired, a leading journal of science and technology. In that edition, Obama discusses the future of technology, the use of artificial intelligence and how to land a man on Mars. Also, the current American first lady has a diet and exercise campaign called “Let’s Move”. She plants a vegetable garden in the White House, advocates for less junk food, more exercise and meets with CEOs of food companies to lobby for healthier ingredients, because treating obesity-related conditions costs the U.S. 190 billion dollars every year.

That is why one of Abati’s ideas which I am in favor of, is converting Aso Villa into a museum, but not for witchcraft. The reason is that Nigeria is a lower middle-income country where 70.8 per cent of the population, or 120 million people, live on less than one dollar a day. Therefore, it makes no sense for our political elite to insulate themselves from reality by luxuriating in opulent lifestyles. The deep insight and moral courage that is required to reform Nigeria is waiting to be harnessed, but first we must let go of uncritical thinking and unequal lifestyles for the rich and famous.

Unilag Rusticates 198 Students

Featured Image

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) have announced that 125 students have been expelled and another 198 students rusticated for various offences, including examination malpractices during the last academic session.

The lists of the affected students was published on the university’s website on Sunday.

UNILAG Deputy Registrar (Information), Mr. Toyin Adebule, confirmed the expulsion and rustication to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday. Adebule said that the university “will soon publish and display the names and photographs of the students in the media.’’ He said that the action was in line with the university’s zero tolerance for malpractices and other vices on campus.

“Yes, we have published some names on our website and these students will be punished in various degrees, depending on the severity. Last session, a number of students were caught in various forms of malpractices during their examinations. Some were found cheating during the examination with “micro sheets” while others were hired as surrogates to sit for exams for others. Others were caught smoking weeds (marijuana) right in their halls of residence by their colleagues and were reported to the university authorities.

“For those who were caught impersonating others during the examination, they will face expulsion,’’ Adebule said while adding that those caught smoking or with micro sheets would face suspension ranging from two to four semesters.

“In other to get the desired effect of their various punishments, we are planning to publish all their names as well as display their photographs all over the campus in the next one week. We shall carry out this measure in all the departments and faculties in the institution.”

“This is to help the university ensure that the affected students will have nowhere to hibernate on campus. By doing this, the affected students would know that the university wants to ensure total compliance to the sanction and would not want to be seen anywhere around the campus,’’ he said.
