MK Dons Set Out ‘Plan’  For New Manager

Featured Image

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman has said the club’s next manager must excite the fans and target promotion to the Premier League.

The Sky Bet League One club parted company with Karl Robinson by mutual consent just over a week ago and placed head of coaching Richie Barker in temporary charge.

“It needs to be somebody who is going to excite us, excite our support,” Winkelman told the club’s official website.

“Like our city, we have big ambition – this stadium was built for top-flight football and that’s where we want to get in the future.

We believe in what we’re doing and we believe in the future of the football club and the city, but I want to start achieving something on the pitch – it’s about the trophies that you win, the memories you create and I want to start doing that more.”
Winkelman added: “Our supporters have been through a lot. It’s always been a difficult journey. I hope they know that our commitment is greater than ever.

“I’m the biggest supporter of this football club – I know what I want to see and I think I’m in good company with the rest of our supporter base.”

Robinson, 36, who had been the third-longest serving manager in the top four divisions, led the Dons to the Championship in 2015 but was unable to keep them there beyond one season.

The Dons have yet to win at home in the league this season and are outside the relegation zone only on goal difference after taking one point from their last five matches.

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu Plays Down Reports Linking Luis Suarez To Manchester United

Featured Image

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has played down reports linking Manchester United to a move for Luis Suarez amid ongoing contract talks.

“We read, we listen, we see this news, but of course, our interest in this particular case is that Luis Suarez is happy at Barcelona,” he said in the interview with Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague.

“For me, he is probably the best striker in Europe and we want him to be with us. Right now, we are trying to extend his contract with Barcelona and he is one of our big future efforts because he is still young, he has a vision, a lot of ambition.

“He is happy at Barcelona and together with Lionel Messi and Neymar, they are really very dangerous.”

There has also been discussions about Messi, the Argentina international, penning a new deal with the Catalan club, with Bartomeu hailing the forward as the best in the world.

“Everbody knows, and he knows, that our wish would be that he stops his career at Barcelona at any time he wants,” he added.

“He is the best player in the world, he is the No 1 by far of other players and of course there are all the opinions, but he is the best player in the history of football.”

Yannick Bolasie Reveals The ‘Secret’  He Speaks With Romelu Lukaku On The Pitch

Featured Image

Yannick Bolasie has revealed the ‘secret’ language he uses with Romelu Lukaku to bamboozle Premier League defenders.

The Everton forwards are the top flight’s most prolific partnership this season and they combined to put the Blues in front against West Ham on Sunday.

And Bolasie says he and Lukaku talk to each other on the pitch using a dialect of Democratic Republic of Congo – Lingala.

Bolasie is an DR Congo international while Belgian international Lukaku is of Congolese descent and the pair says few defenders can understand what they are saying.

“We are both very proud of our heritage,” Bolasie said.

“It really helps when we talk in our language, Lingala, and I know his cousin, who plays with me for DR Congo.

“We speak Lingala on the pitch.

“There aren’t too many defenders in the league who speak it, so that gives us a little bit of an advantage.

“It’s particularly useful because it’s quick.”

Moyes Handed One Match Touchline Ban For Misconduct

Featured Image

Sunderland manager, David Moyes has admitted to a misconduct charge and has been subsequently handed a one-match touchline ban by the Football Association (FA).

The former Everton manager was sent to the stands in the closing stages of his side’s 1-0 EFL cup loss to Southampton on October 26.

The FA subsequently charged the Scot with directing “abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official”.

The suspension will see him miss Sunderland’s match against Bournemouth, as they go in search of their first EPL win on Saturday.

However, he will return for the crunch clash with fellow strugglers Hull City at the Stadium of Light on November 19.

Buhari’s Ambassadorial List Evades Rejection, As Saraki Exercises Veto On Colleagues

Featured Image

Should the Senate President Bukola Saraki not exercise his veto power, the list of 46 non-career ambassadorial nominees submitted by President Muhammdu Buhari would have been rejected on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

The fate of the ambassadorial list could have taken another dimension ten minutes after the Senate rejected President Buhari’s plan to borrow $ 29.960 billion for execution of key infrastructural projects across the country between 2016 and 2018.

But for the prompt intervention of the senate president, who overruled it, the rejection did not gain ground.

During plenary, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume had moved a motion that the Senate should consider President Buhari’s request to confirm the nominees where he said that ” the Senate do consider the request of the President Commander in Chief on the confirmation of the nomination of the following persons for appointment as Non- Career Ambassador Designate.”

Saraki then put the issue of the nominees before his colleagues twice in a voice vote, but more senators shouted “nay” than “aye.”

Saraki, who paused for about ten seconds, apparently shocked at what happened, then overruled the Senators, saying that the Ayes have it and approved the consideration of the list of non-career ambassadorial nominees.

Romelu Lukaku Discusses Transfer Speculations And Stamford Bridge Return

Featured Image

Romelu Lukaku is not thinking about speculation over his future and is instead focusing on his performances for Everton.

According to The Sun, the striker’s form this season has seen him attract interest from Bayern Munich.

There is also thought to be a contract offer from Everton on the table, but Lukaku is quoted as saying: “My agent doesn’t talk to me about that really.

“He is doing a good job with the club – and we will see what happens. He just wants me to be focused on performances.”

“If clubs are interested in you, it is a compliment to the club you are playing for,” said Lukaku. “It means that Everton have done great work with me.

It is just a normal game (at Chelsea). We are just going to try and go there and give our best. We will see what happens.

“I want to win the game. I want to be a part of a team that is going to be successful and that is what we are trying here. I’m just trying to help my team as much as I can. There are going to be ups and downs sometimes but at the moment I think I am doing really well.”

$2.1bn Arms Deal: Jonathan Willing To Defend Dasuki In Court

Featured Image

Strong indications have emerged that Nigeria’s former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is ready to appear in the ongoing trial of his former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki, to testify in his favour.

Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), the counsel to the ex-NSA, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.

READ ALSO: It Is Impossible To Say Dasuki Stole $2.2 Billion – Jonathan

Vanguard quoted the ex-NSA’s counsel, as saying that:

“Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will testify in court. He is one of those who will testify and that the statement he made in London appears to be the first phase of the war chest of the ex-NSA.”

“You know the ex-NSA said he acted on Jonathan’s instructions in disbursing some of the cash, and from the look of things, the ex-President is now ready to accept responsibility for whatever Dasuki did. So far, we have secured the consent of Jonathan to appear in court for Dasuki. This will make the trial worth it.

“Dasuki has a list of highly-placed beneficiaries from the arms cash. A particular traditional ruler got about N500million as a gift from the government through the Office of NSA. There are many hidden beneficiaries whom Nigerians must know. Nigerians will be shocked by some revelations. Nothing short of open trial will let Nigerians know the truth. We are ready for this.”

Dasuki, a retired colonel, is currently facing charges for alleged misappropriation of $2.1bn arms funds meant for equipping the military fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

Romelu Lukaku Urges Team-mate Ross Barkley To Start Scoring More Goals

Featured Image

Ross Barkley needs to rediscover his goal touch if he is going to reclaim his place in the England squad says team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

The Everton midfielder scored his first goal from open play in 11 months against West Ham at the weekend, following free-kicks against Spurs and Yeovil earlier this season.

Romelu Lukaku said: “At the minute, the players who play in his position – like Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney – they have got goals in them.

“I think Ross has to get more goals and more assists than he has been doing. If he does that, then he is going to play.

“If Ross fulfils his potential, you are talking about the best player in English football. He has got everything.

“He has got power, he has got technique; he can shoot with both feet. He is fast, he can pick a pass. The manager has been working with him so he makes the right decisions on the pitch.”

Last season Barkley scored 14 goals, including his first England goals against San Marino and Lithuania, outscoring Alli who only managed 11.

‘MMM Is A Fraud, Don’t Patronize It’ – CBN Warns Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday warned Nigerians against patronising MMM, a scheme that is currently making the rounds in the country – stating that their activities were not regulated by it.

The caution was made known by the head of the consumer protection department of the CBN, Kadija Kassim, yesterday, during a mentoring programme for students of the Government Secondary School, Suleja, Niger State.

She made it known that activities associated with the scheme are not regulated by any institution.

Kassim, while responding to a question asked by one of the students, described the scheme as fraudulent since it was not supported by any business model.

She said, “We have heard about the activities of MMM, but I want to warn you against it because they are wonder banks that are not regulated.

“Desist from their activities because they are fraudulent.”

The warning comes barely after the Minister of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, dissociated himself from the MMM, saying he has nothing to do with it or any other online financial aid community, projects or contracts.

Since its inception, the platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network,” with a monthly investment return of 30 per cent.

There are strong indications that the former Spokesperson to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati, ‘is willing to refund N5 million out of the N50 million he received from a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.’

Premium Times gathered that during interrogation, Abati admitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he got N50 million from Dasuki but could only afford to return N5 million.

Sources at the anti-graft agency revealed that Mr. Abati offered to refund N5 million to the government on Monday night.

However, he failed to supply the anti-graft commission with records of how the N50 million was disbursed, a source said.

Abati, a columnist, was held in custody last week when he reported at the EFCC headquarters.

Moussa Sissoko Reveals Why He Snubbed “Smaller Club” Everton For Tottenham

Featured Image

Moussa Sissoko says he never intended to join Everton in the summer, because Tottenham are a “bigger club”.

The midfielder was the target of a reported bid from the Toffees on Deadline Day, but eventually sealed a move from Newcastle to Spurs.

“Why would I have joined Everton? Spurs are a bigger club,” Sissoko told the Daily Mirror. “They wanted me at Everton. I didn’t hear anything else. Tottenham came in next.

“In my head it was clear I absolutely wanted to sign for them. Without wishing to offend Everton, Tottenham in my opinion is a bigger club than Everton. So for me it was better to go here. And I didn’t think more about it. I signed.”

Sissoko’s big-money move to White Hart Lane, however, hasn’t quite gone to plan.

The former Newcastle man has started just four Premier League games this term and is yet to score in eight appearances.

The winger has also been charged by the FA with violent conduct after he appeared to elbow Harry Arter in the face during the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth.

Chelsea To Allow Cesc Fabregas Leave On Loan

Featured Image

Chelsea will reportedly let Cesc Fabregas leave on loan in January and may even subsidise his wages.

The midfielder has made one start this season in the Premier League and does not appear to be part of Antonio Conte’s plans.

The Times report he could now be set to leave, although only on loan, unless ‘a sizeable offer is received’.

The bigwigs at Stamford Bridge have decided that Cesc Fàbregas’s £160,000-a-week wages are a little overhigh for someone who has little chance of starting a league game.

The Times reports that they came close to letting him join Milan back in August, but couldn’t decide what proportion of his wages they should reasonably offer to continue paying. It is a question they have pondered at length over the last two months, and have now come to a decision. The Times doesn’t know what it is, but interested clubs may apply at the usual address.

Die Meinschaft Legend Miroslav Klose Retires, Joins Backroom Staff At DFB

Germany legend Miroslav Klose has decided to retire from the game after his contract with Lazio expired at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The veteran striker had been linked with a MLS move, as well as a return to his former club of Kaiserslautern, but has opted to end his playing days and has taken a position with Germany’s national team.

The 38-year-old will be following an individual education and traineeship under national team coach Joachim Low and sporting director Hansi Flick with an eye on a future coaching career, while also joining Low’s backroom staff.

“I enjoyed my biggest successes with the national team. It was a great time and unforgettable for me. That’s why I am happy to return to the DFB,” Klose told the DFB website.

“Over the past few months, the idea of staying on the pitch in another position, as a coach, got into my mind. I already enjoyed developing tactics, preparing for games and reading the game during my playing days.

“I am grateful to Jogi Low and Hansi Flick that they are offering me this opportunity.”

Klose started his professional career with Homburg and also wore the jerseys of Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Lazio.

He enjoyed his biggest successes with Bayern, where he won two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokals. The striker won the Bundesliga top-scorer award in 2005-06.

He made 137 appearances for Die Meinschaft and scored 71 goals, making him his country’s all-time top goalscorer

He won the World Cup in 2014, having finished as a runner-up in 2002. Klose is also the all-time top scorer at World Cup finals, with 16 strikes spread over four tournaments.

Henry: Giroud Can Be Instrumental For Arsenal As A Sub

Featured Image

After years of uncertainty over Giroud’s role at Arsenal by the fans, Thierry Henry seems to think the Frenchman can be a super sub for the gunners.

The Frenchman came off the bench to grab two crucial goals for Arsenal against Sunderland, scoring the second and third goal of the 4-1 win.

Wenger seems to prefer Alexis Sanchez as a lone striker and Giroud’s brace might not be enough to earn him a start.

However, that super sub role could be just the one Arsenal need to finally win the title again, says Thierry Henry, as long as Giroud is willing to play the part.

“Yes he can be a plan B but I don’t know if he’s going to be happy coming off the bench but I think you win a title like that.” Henry told Sky Sports.

“Manchester United had Solskjaer and Sheringham, Dzeko for Man City, we had Sylvain Wiltord so can he accept that to do that?

“We know the boss, Arsene Wenger, now likes to play with Alexis Sanchez inside and he came on and did the job and he did it very well.

“Giroud is amazing in the air and that gives you another option. If you can have Sanchez in the middle and him coming off the bench or sometimes maybe you start him and Sanchez goes back outside or Sanchez goes around him but that’s more difficult because you’re playing Mesut Ozil.

“I think you have a different option but that’s great for the boss.”
