Yaya Toure’s Agent Refuses To Issues An Apology To Pep Guardiola

Featured Image

Yaya Toure’s agent has insisted he will not be apologising to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Toure issued an apology on Friday morning “for the misunderstandings of the past” and pledged his future to the club, but Dimitri Seluk won’t be following suit.

“I’m not apologising,” Seluk told talkSPORT. “We want peace, but I’m not apologising. Apologise for what?

“Maybe Toure has apologised for this, but I don’t know for what. I think Yaya doesn’t mean this. He wants peace between him Guardiola.”

Seluk says it is important Toure plays because he is a “top player” and insists the ball is now in Guardiola’s court.

“A lot of supporters want to see Yaya on the field and Yaya wants to help Manchester City get good results,” he said.

“A player like Yaya, one of the top players in the world who has a very big salary, normally does not stay out of the team. He must play.

“We want to make peace between Guardiola, Yaya and me for the supporters, the team and for the results.

“For Manchester City, the fans and for football, it is important Yaya plays because he is a top player.

“We will see about the future, but most important we make steps to each other. Guardiola must now do the next step, because we make a step from our side to make peace.

“Yaya has won two titles and this team is in his heart. He is a legend in the history of this club.

“Now we say nothing. We’ve made our steps now and we will see what Guardiola will do.”

Andre Villa-Boas Appointed Manager Of Chinese Club Shanghai SIPG

Featured Image

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has parted company with Shanghai SIPG and former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villa-Boas has taken his place at the Chinese club.

Villas-Boas, who recently ended his contract with Russia’s Zenit Saint Petersburg club after two seasons, signed up with the Chinese club here, reports Efe.

The news came as a surprise amid rumours that the 68-year-old Eriksson, former coach of England and with nearly 40 years of professional experience across four continents, was interested in signing British forward Wayne Rooney for the Shanghai club.

However, SIPG finished third in the current Chinese league — which ended last week — and was runners up in 2015, which likely prompted the club to scout for a new coach instead.

If rumours are to be believed, SIPG will be paying the 39-year-old Portuguese a whopping $12 million per season.

According to reports in the Chinese media, Villas-Boas, who is already popular among soccer fans in the country where he is referred to as “Junior Mourinho”, was recommended by the team’s Brazilian forward Hulk.

Alvaro Negredo Admits He Made A Mistake By Leaving Manchester City

Featured Image

Alvaro Negredo has said his decision to leave Man City after one season was a ‘mistake’ ahead of his return to the Etihad this weekend.

“I started the season well and the fans saw what I could do when I was 100 per cent fit,” Negredo said in an interview with The Sun.

“But from February I suffered from a shoulder injury which I never really recovered from. When you have a niggling injury like that, it stops you showing your best form. And I don’t feel I ever regained the manager’s trust.

The Spain international struggled during his time back in La Liga – netting just 18 times in 74 appearances for Valencia – but is determined to rediscover his scoring touch with Boro and add to his one strike so far this season.

“I’m convinced I can regain my form,” he added. “I have had two seasons where I have not shown my best so you have to be realistic and I am very grateful that Middlesbrough have given me the chance to start again and improve.

“England is a league I’ve always enjoyed and I want to show that better version of myself that you saw seasons ago.”

“So unfortunately things didn’t turn out how I wanted them to. I do think I made a mistake to go back to Spain when I was doing things well in the Premier League.

“But thankfully now I’ve been given the chance to come back and start this other chapter here in England again.”

“If I wanted to play there I would have stayed there,” said the 21-year-old, who started out as a youngster at Barca.

“I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to come here. I’m not looking back, I’m just looking to help Arsenal.”
Speaking at the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, he added: “It’s nice for a player to know that big teams want you but I’m very happy here.

“I’ve still got three years left on my contract so I’m just focused on playing every single week, improving and hopefully making things happen here at Arsenal. I’m not in a rush to extend the contract. I’m happy. I’m comfortable. I want to be here a long time.”

Tens Of Thousands Of Nigerians Attempting Suicide

Featured Image

Tens of Thousands of Nigerians Attempting Suicide, By ‘Tope Fasua

Sometime in 2014, I interviewed a mechanic in Benin City, who had been deported from Germany. Austin is his name. He is one of the most interesting people I’d ever met. He narrated to me how he and a number of his friends went from Sokoto State into Niger Republic, into Mauritania, Algeria and Morocco. He was lucky, even though he saw many people die along the route. He spoke about the deportation centres, and the rafts with which he and his friends sailed across the most treacherous parts of the Mediterranean Sea. He mentioned how the gendarmes on the other side of the water would sometimes shoot at them – the deportees – and what awaited them on the other side. Austin managed to get into Europe, crossing from Italy into Germany, surviving for about a year-and-a-half before his luck ran out. His memory was remarkable. The way he reeled out the names of places, the routes and the experience was shockingly vivid. See the interview here.

This piece was written by Tope Fasua. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

He was back in Benin in 2014, and despite what he went through and the risk involved, he promised to return to Europe through the same route the moment he could find the opportunity. He said he was not ‘buoyant’ in Nigeria, and that he made much more money as an illegal in Europe. Perhaps it is the allure of living far away from home, where one can do any odd job without any shame, or living in sterilised environments where everything is orderly. And there are many like Austin; hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, and their numbers are increasing. Austin was very funny towards the end of the interview as he narrated how, upon alighting at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, without any of his belongings, a fellow Nigerian approached him for alms, claiming he had just been released from Kirikiri prisons! It was at that point Austin resolved to go back to Germany from whence he was deported.

When one hears such fantastic stories, one wonders the kind of desperation that makes Nigerians set upon a journey possibly of no return across an unforgiving desert, and at the mercy of hardened criminals. The Sahara Desert has claimed thousands, if not millions of lives, and this should be a great embarrassment to governments in Africa if our leaders had any soul left in them. For Nigeria, this is a major source of shame, for we tout our prosperity and status among other countries in Africa. As we speak, given the ongoing economic crisis that Nigeria is going through – no thanks to lethargic governance – tens of thousands of Nigerians seem to have resolved to leave and are leaving. When President Buhari said anyone who has another country should leave, he should have been reminded that he has lived a protected, charmed and sponsored life since he was a kid.

Many people – especially in the South of Nigeria – have lived lives of struggle and intense competition from the day they were born, and have faced terrible circumstances that necessitate them taking this terrible risk that is akin to suicide. They have ambitions. They are frustrated. Yes, it could partly be due to a fault of theirs. But we cannot condemn them until we hear their stories. In this same country, through connections, some people have lived lives of undue advantage, always present when scholarships and sponsorships are to be handed out, when one government largesse or the other is on offer, when pilgrimage money is moving around, when houses and cars are to be sold for cheap, when jobs openings are made available under the table, when oil blocs are being allocated, when public enterprises are being gifted away, when choice lands are being distributed in expensive cities. Some even get their weddings and burials sponsored by the state. Some are indeed lucky, but those who are lucky should not scorn those who are not. Some of us have never benefited anything from this country but for the sacrifices we have made for her. It’s painful that some people strive to build Nigeria, while others are only interested in pulling her down since they were born. This has to have consequences.

Governance is about having an eagle-eye view of what is happening to your people. Governance is about ensuring that their situations don’t continually get worse to the extent that they begin to take irrational decisions. Governance is not about being dismissive of their complaints and showing disdain to the less fortunate. Governance is not about creating or maintaining class structures where some are seen as condemned to penury from heaven, while others are ordained to enjoy the spoils of the land. We have to move away rapidly from those old ways of governance and embrace the new ethos of happiness and prosperity for all at a certain level. Nigeria has not done well in this regard, and the current administration has been particularly disastrous, leading to a skyrocketing of the numbers of Nigerians risking their lives to leave, and the middle class now falling over themselves to get into places like Canada where their children’s education could at least be secured. What we have seen is that many Nigerians are daily giving up and we are back to the 1980s era where many Nigerians ended up taking menial jobs abroad. President Buhari, given the love Nigerians expressed for you, this is simply not acceptable.

And so it was that just a week ago, the European Union released the details of their finds about those who crossed the Mediterranean Sea into Europe in the past four years. This is what they had to say about Nigerians:

“… people coming from Nigeria in 2012 was 800, in 2013 the number was 2,900, in 2014 the number was 8,700, in 2015 the number was 23,000…. And between January and September 2016 the number is 22,500. 3,700 drowned in Mediterranean Sea in 2016 alone, which indicated that one in 50 people drowned.”

That is just in brief. These white people keep their records and have no reason to lie in this instance. From 800 Nigerians in 2012, a whole 22,500 Nigerians have crossed the Mediterranean this year! And 3,700 Nigerians have drowned! No statement by our government and absolutely no action being taken to stave off these terrible occurrences. Of course, the best antidote is meaningful, compassionate governance, not uncaring, selfish, and devil-may-care approaches that have rendered even those of us hanging on in the country to be despondent. People have departed this country in thousands and just disappeared into thin air. These are humans created by God too, and God will ask for their souls from those who run Nigeria, many of whom have simply made themselves very comfortable at the expense of these totally desperate folks.

Before the end of 2016, chances are that that figure will spike to about 30,000. The exodus from Nigeria is on. These Nigerians believe that no one cares for them. Government policies, shockingly, has been centred on making their powerful friends richer. A former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who could be used as a model president given our circumstances, recently bragged about creating 25 billionaires, in a country where more than 75 percent remain poor. Since he departed, governance has turned out even worse, inequality has increased further, and as the figures above show, Nigerians have become more desperate.

Let out leaders know, that they command absolutely no respect among their peers in the countries they love to visit, as this situation persists. Mere flowery words will not do the trick. Only visible socioeconomic advancement will do it. This is the time for them to double down and bite the bullet. I wish them luck. For time is running out.

The charges were contained in a court document filed yesterday by Principal State Counsel, Hajara H. Yusuf on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federation at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with case No. CR/13/16.

The charges, filed on October 3, also contain allegations of bribe amounting to tens of millions of naira.

p class=”selectionshareable”>“Nigeria, as a party to the Rome Statute, believes that the court represents an international mechanism for ensuring justice for all,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jane Adams said in a statement in the capital Abuja on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

She said: “Nigeria remains a signatory to the Rome Statute adopted on 17 July 1998 and which entered into force in July 1, 2002. Nigeria deposited its instrument on 27 September, 2001.

“Many members States of The UN, not just Africans are not yet signatories and state parties of the statute.

“Though non membership does not protect anyone from prosecution by the court as the UN Security Council can refer cases to the Court the time has however come to call on all member states who have not yet signed the Rome Statute to consider becoming signatories to the statute.

“It is only by working together that we can ensure that the court effectively performs its functions and serves humanity faithfully.”

The statement comes days after Gambia, South Africa and Burundi announced their withdrawal, claiming, among other things, that the court was biased towards African countries.

Boxing: Pacquiao Will Welcome Khan Fight

Featured Image

Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiao is out of retirement and he is open to fighting British boxer, Amir Khan.

The Filipino called it quits in April after winning his rematch against Timothy Bradley on points, but will return to the ring on Saturday when he faces Jesse Vargas in Las Vegas for the WBO Welterweight title.

Manny Pacquiao Set To Come Out Of Retirement

The 37-year-old highlighted Golovkin’s fight against Brook in September as the bout that brought him out of retirement and a fight against Khan is one he would be open to.

“I’m willing to fight anybody,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “Amir Khan is my friend and it’s good to fight somebody that you know. That’s better.”

The fight against Vargas will be Pacquiao’s 67th as a professional and is his first crack at a world title as a member of the Filipino senate, but he feels he can combine the two very distinct and demanding roles.

Amir Khan & Manny Pacquiao Set For Boxing Fight

“The love of boxing motivated me and also I feel lonely inside,” he said. “I realise I can still box and so I decided to change my mind and continue the journey.

“It’s not easy (to combine boxing with being a senator), it’s hard to balance working in an office and training but I can manage my time.

“This is a very important fight and it’s a difficult fight – he’s a champion so you can’t underestimate him or take him lightly but I’ll make sure I’m 100 per cent conditioned, mentally and spiritually.”

Puel Impressed With Southampton’s Reaction In Inter Win

Featured Image

Claude Puel has heaped praise on his men, following Southampton’s comeback victory of 2-1 over Inter in the Europa.

Icardi put the visitors in front in the first half and Dusan Tadic was rejected from the spot by Handanovic before the break.

The second half saw Southampton move to second of group K with seven points, after a van Dijk strike and a Nagatomo own goal sealed their comeback.

“I think it was a fantastic game for my players, because all the scenarios were against us tonight,” Puel said via the club’s official website.

“We dominated the first half, but we went 1-0 down and just before half-time we missed a penalty.

Inter’s World Is Crumbling, Says Icardi

“There were also many saves from the opponent’s goalkeeper [Samir Handanovic], but we persisted and all the players kept their calm and quality on the pitch, and we came back to score this first goal with Virgil and then after with the second.

“All the team were rewarded tonight.”

Van Dijk felt his side deserved their victory against Inter, who are bottom of the group with just one win from four.

“The most important thing was that it was well deserved as well,” the Saints captain told BT Sport.

“We played good football, we were the dominating side, like before in Milan [a 1-0 defeat in the previous meeting in October], and today we rewarded ourselves with a win.”
