Low: Gomez Is Still The Key For Germany

Featured Image

Germany manager, Joachim Low has praised Mario Gomez for his importance to the team, saying he is key for his side.

The German striker has had a difficult start to the season and didn’t find the net in the 8-0 thrashing of San Marino.

However, Low sees no reason for concern and believes the 31-year-old is on the right track again.

“Mario got injured after Euro 2016 and that set him back a bit,” Low said at a news conference.

“He is a striker who is a great finisher. He has some incredible quality, with his left foot, his right foot and his head. He showed that at the Euros.

“He had a great year with Besiktas last season with a lot of goals and is on the right track at Wolfsburg as well. He is very important to us.”

YouTube is about the opportunity for people to express themselves. Creators across Africa are using YouTube to find their voice, connect with audiences around the world and build channels while earning revenue from it. The number of hours of video content in Africa being uploaded has doubled year over year for the past two years. And the audience has grown with it. Watchtime on mobile phones is growing 120% year over year.

The cost of data and the processing speed of many phones in Africa often make it challenging to enjoy watching video online. Joe Hart Wants England To Be Brave

Featured Image

England goalkeeper, Joe Hart has called on the three lions to be brave ahead of their clash against Spain.

Spain didn’t make it past the round of 16 at the Euro 2016, ending their dominant era, but their playing style could still prove a problem.

England’s muddled play in Euro 2016 was a far cry from Spain’s well-honed methods and, although they have taken 10 points from four subsequent World Cup qualifiers, there remains work to be done on that front.

“We’re trying to express ourselves as a team and find an identity,” said Hart at a pre-match news conference, with Southgate’s men looking to build on Friday’s 3-0 win over neighbours Scotland.

“It’s really difficult for an international manager to do that I think, because you get such little time together and we’re very new.

“But I feel we’ve got a really good squad in terms of wanting to learn and work for each other and that came forward on Friday and hopefully again on Tuesday night.

“I think we’ve got some really important players from their club teams and it’s about encouraging them to be brave enough.”

Nishikori Sends Wawrinka Packing In First Match At ATP World Tour Finals

Featured Image

Stan Wawrinka was comfortably beaten by Kei Nishikori in the ATP World Tour Finals on Monday within 67 minutes.

The Swiss, who is the defending US Open champion lost 6-2 6-3 in their tour finals opener, making 31 unforced errors and three double faults.

The Swiss was self-deprecating with his trademark sense of humour in his post-match press conference. Asked if the quicker courts were better than last year at the O2 Arena, he quipped with a smile: “So far not, because I just lost the match, but I will see at the end of the tournament.”

“It was not a great match compared to what I can do, that’s for sure,” added Wawrinka. “It wasn’t a great day for myself. In general, I think he play well, put a lot of pressure from the beginning.

“I don’t think I find anything on the court today. I was a little bit slow on everything. I was hesitating a lot with my game, my movement.”

Album Review: Phyno – The Playmaker

Featured Image

In the years since he first dropped Ghost Mode and first tasted mainstream success, Phyno has ridden the crests and troughs of the local rapper movement and has emerged triumphant, easily recognisable as one of the biggest stars in the country. The fact that he raps or sings predominantly in the Igbo has been of no impediment to his rise to the top of the music food chain.

But as Phyno’s stardom has risen, the same cannot be said of the quality of his music. Sure he is presently at the height of his popularity and songs like Connect and Fada Fada have been relentless in their total takeover of radio, clubs and every single pop chart of note.

But the difference in quality between Ghost Mode and say, Fada Fada is as different as night and day. Where Ghost Mode is easily recalled as a hip hop classic, hard hitting and punchy as a shot of vodka, the latter is diluted commercial fare without even pretensions to the decent song writing that the former aspired to.

His sophomore album, The Playmaker is aptly if conventionally titled. Phyno is more an entertainer these days, a certified hit maker who can breathe life and conjure up listenable status to the blandest of songs.

Structurally, The Playmaker is not really a rap album. For as Phyno’s star has grown, so has his musical tastes. His sound has widened to accommodate other influences and he has dedicated himself to making Igbo Folk and Highlife music appealing to the widest audience that he possibly attract.

Not an ignoble mission but purists and fans of the rapper in Phyno cannot help but be a tad disappointed at his choices. From time to time, Phyno will remember that audience and will throw them a bone. He does so at irregular bursts on The Playmaker and by God does he still have it. The problem is, hard core rap is unlikely to summon up the riches and fame and Phyno makes a decision that is perfectly understandable.

Phyno’s name isn’t likely to come up in best rapper discussions these days but clearly he hasn’t gotten the memo. Over a Major Bangz throwback beat, he flexes some rap muscle before cheekily describing himself the Best Rapper. Beyond the empty brags though, Phyno makes a case for his career choices. He picks money over awards and prefers the comfort of staying local to the unknown Badlands of going international.

Link Up is a wank fest featuring the skills of MI and Burna Boy who holds in own amidst two solid rap heads. Abulo goes by way of Alobam to serve a fantastic head bobbing throwback to power rap verses. However, past the halfway point, The Playmaker begins to suffer diminishing returns and the less than inspired fare like I’m a fan and So far so good follow in quick succession highlighting weaknesses in the arrangement.

The opening cut Yes I Pray sets a hopeful tone that the rest of the record builds on. It is a sweet sing song spiritual highlife ditty thanking God for graces received. Phyno sings and raps his way to a reckoning with the almighty. It also follows the routine my-life-up-till-now narrative that artistes have decided must form part of their records.

E sure for me mixes prayer, Afrobeat and Highlife in an intoxicating blend that begs to be performed live. The excellent gyration stunner Obiagu instantly transports you to the warm embrace of the East and recalls days spent soaking in alcohol and watching masquerades glide by.

When a title like Financial Woman comes to mind, one can easily imagine Psquare singing the chorus and bragging about spending themselves silly over a girl that was just made to chop their money. The song itself is pretty uneven but if anyone can turn a hit out of subpar material, it is Psquare. Oh and Phyno too.

Phyno tries for the love songs with Pino Pino and sings his way to the heart of his lady love. The electric guitar and Phyno’s uplifting delivery are a fine mix. He lets his guard down and apologises for bad behaviour on the heartfelt Mistakes. The Elegant Stallion herself, Onyeka Onwenu is a surprise guest on Ochie Dike and submits soothing if uneven vocals to this love letter to mama.

The Playmaker is a big sprawling, glossy, messy but ultimately worthwhile outing. It is a project that can only come from a star at the peak of his fame, confident that his audience will be quick to forgive his excesses. And they are many. The disc does not aspire to perfection, wears it flaws proudly and seeks legitimacy in its failings. Do not be afraid to be human or to take risks, Phyno seems to be saying. And have fun while at it. The Playmaker is plenty fun.

BREAKING: Scores Feared Dead As Police, Shi’ite Clash In Kano

Featured Image

Scores of persons have been killed following a violent clash between security agents and members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shi’ite in Kano State on Monday.

The incident, which occurred at Tamburawa General area along Zaria Road, took place around 8.00am when hundreds of Shi’te embarked on an annual trekking to Zaria.

Sources who witnessed the incident said at least 10 people were killed and several injured after the state police opened fire during clashes with the pro-Iranian Shiites.

“The police arrived and started firing teargas canisters on the procession of Shiites to disperse them,” grocer Ilyasu Ammani told AFP.

“I saw 15 bodies sprawled on the ground before the police evacuated them,” said Ammani of the violence in Kwanar Dawaki, an area on the outskirts of Kano.

The police have since deployed heavily armed mobile officers to the area while the major Kano- Zaria road is completely blocked.

Speaking on the incident, in a statement, Ibrahim Musa, a spokesperson for the group, said:

“Soldiers mounted a check point at the outskirts of Potiskum, Yobe state, probably to stop members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) from leaving the town to join others in this year’s annual Arbaeen Trek to Zaria, mourning the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS) scheduled to commence from Kano this week.”

“The soldiers detained a trailer carrying the personal belongings of those going to Kano for the trek today.

“Apparently, the soldiers have some sinister motives as they were overheard scheming to plant weapons in the luggage and thereafter claim that these bags with the weapons belong to members of the IMN.

“Throughout the nearly four decades of the existence of the IMN, it has never stockpiled, carried or used weapons. It never had any cause to, even in the face of provocation.

“IMN therefore wishes to alert the general public over this evil plot, and categorically reject and disown any attempt by the security services to plant any fake evidence against members of the Islamic Movement (IMN).”

Featured Image

There are strong indications emerging that the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was in Kuje prison in Abuja as of Monday, November 14.

These led to his absence and the subsequent cessation of his trial and that of two others for an alleged fraud of N4.9bn before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Fani-Kayode, alongside Nenadi Usman, a former finance minister and one Danjuma Yusuf are currently facing trial of over N4.9billion charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had preferred a 17-count charge bordering on the alleged offence after which they pleaded guilty and were granted bail by the court.

During court sitting, ‎Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Mr. Wale Balogun, informed the presiding judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, that his client was unable to come to court because he was in Kuje prison in Abuja as of Monday morning.

“My lord, the second accused (Fani-Kayode) was kept in custody of the prosecution for 21 days without any word, and finally, arraigned on November 10 before your learned brother, Justice John Tsoho in Abuja, on a five-count charge bordering on N26million.

“He was subsequently remanded at the Kuje prisons, and in view of this, we are helpless, as his bail conditions have not been perfected in spite of frantic efforts by family and friends,” Balogun said.

The matter was thereafter adjourned to December 12, 2016.

Nigerian Soldier Fakes His Kidnap, Found In Girlfirend’s House

Featured Image

A Soldier in the Nigerian Army, Musa Lawal, who was reportedly kidnapped in Calabar last Thursday, allegedly faked his abduction.

Musa Lawal was abducted around 10am after leaving a bank along Calabar Road in Cross River State by his associates, according to a security source. According to reports that surfaced on Sunday, Lawal allegedly arranged for his abduction to pave the way for an undisclosed illegal movement to Port Harcourt in Rivers State.

During investigation, it was learnt that Lawal had met with an unknown group in Port Harcourt and then travelled back to Eket in Akwa Ibom State where he was eventually found in his girlfriend’s apartment by security operatives.

The security source said, “He faked his own kidnap because he wanted to have some time out with a group in Port Harcourt. He had an encounter with them from investigations made. It was an illegal operation that he went for and after the operation he relocated to the girlfriend’s house in Eket.

“He was picked up in his girlfriend’s house in Eket and he is presently being detained in one of the barracks in Calabar. He has confessed that he was not actually kidnapped.”

However, the Army Public Relations Officer in charge of 13 Brigade, Calabar, Capt. Kayode Owolabi, insisted that there was no case of kidnap.

“Nothing like that ever took place. It is all rumour because it is not possible to abduct someone in Calabar without attracting public attention in the broad day light, let alone a soldier who is fully dressed. You must get a pass before you are allowed to travel. Whatever they are saying is not true. The man is with us,” he said.

According to AFP, in an audio message posted on YouTube on Sunday evening, Shekau said:

“We remain steadfast on our faith and we will not stop,” he said in the hour-long message. “To us, the war has just begun.”

We’ll Resist Sale Of NNPC Stakes – Oil Workers Tell FG

Featured Image

Oil workers under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Sunday vowed that they would resist any attempt by the Federal Government to sell some of its stakes in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

READ ALSO: NNPC Stops Importation Of Kerosene

According to the Public Relations Officer, PENGASSAN, Mr. Emmanuel Ojugbana, the union would not support the sale of NNPC’s assets.

The statement by the PRO is coming on the backdrop of a proposal by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources on Thursday, suggesting the sale of the government’s stakes in NNPC.

READ ALSO: NNPC Increases Pump Price Of Petrol By N4

The Punch reports that the petroleum ministry had released a draft policy document on the reform of the oil sector on November 10, in which it proposed the sale of some of its stakes in the national oil firm.

In the proposal, the petroleum ministry stated that a newly formed corporation could sell the stake “so long as the government shareholder retains effective control and ownership.”

READ ALSO: PIB: Bill Seeking To Split NNPC Into 2 Passes 2nd Reading At Senate

However, in his reaction, Ojugbana said:

“Actually, the government is trying to revisit the Petroleum Industry Bill and that may have to do with the draft document being reported. But we have not engaged with them in order to know the implication of what is in the draft or the bill. However, we have already made our position clear and I’m restating it that we are not in support of any attempt to sell our national assets.

“But if there are other policies of government that will enhance the oil and gas industry, we are in support of that. So, we need to understand what the draft proposal is all about and then we will make our contributions. But as per the sale of assets, PENGASSAN is completely against it and should be counted out.

“We are not in support of the sale of our national assets; we will only give support to policies that aim to create adequate governance structures, as this will provide more business opportunities, which is good for the Nigerian people. In times like this, the government should not consider the sale of assets belonging to the NNPC, for we will oppose it seriously.”

Lending his voice on the issue, the Secretary-General, PENGASSAN, Mr. Lumumba Okugbawa, said the union did not know which subsidiary of the NNPC might be put up for sale, but stressed that oil sector workers would resist the move.

He said, “Our position still remains the same that they cannot sell our national assets. It is not to be allowed. We don’t have the details of which company they want to sell in the NNPC. Is it the Kaduna, Warri or Port Harcourt refinery? Is it a different subsidiary of the NNPC, or is it the entire NNPC? These are things we need to find out.

“But no matter what it may be, our position stays and it is that the government should not be allowed to sell our collective national assets. There should be better ways to handle things, not by selling our national assets. So, we look forward to having better dialogue with the government.”

Official Statement On The Altercation Involving Oritse Femi At Club Quilox

Featured Image

In the early hours of the 12th of November 2016, an unfortunate incident occurred between music act Oritse Femi and a member of the security team at Club Quilox.

The incident started at about 2am Saturday morning when Oritse Femi came into Quilox without prior reservation or table booking. It is important to note that tables are allocated to customers who have made prior paid table bookings in advance of their arrival except such customer is a patron member of the club and tables are allocated on availability in such case. However, Oritse Femi who did not fall into any of the categories above approached a patron and after pleading was accommodated on patron’s table, but with the understanding that other guests of the said patron were still been expected to join the table shortly which Oritse Femi agreed to. It is important to note that this is a table that could only accommodate a maximum of  six people overlooking the center of attraction part of the club.

In a surprising turn of event, Oritse Femi who was drinking from the patron’s bottle, threw caution to the wind by attempting to sit some of his guests at the table, the surprised patron strongly rejected such effrontery and invited the bouncer guarding the floor to intervene .The bouncer politely approached Oritse Femi and told him that the patron who owned the table did not want any of Oritse Femi’s guest joining in as the patron’s guests were still being expected as he previously informed him. However Oriste Femi in a fit of unprovoked rage slapped the bouncer then proceeded to breaking a glass in his hand and stabbing him in the eye. Despite his position or the power he thinks he has as a celebrity, this is not an excuse for inflicting grave bodily harm on another human being.

The scene quickly became rowdy as other customers rushed to the table and confronted the artist for his violent behavior, our security team quickly stepped in to salvage the situation by carrying Oriste Femi out of the club (this is our standard procedure for violent altercations) while other members of staff focused on giving first aid treatment to the bouncer who almost lost his eye and had already lost so much blood. Oriste Femi faced by an enraged crowd outside and perhaps realizing the gravity of his offense pretended to collapse. The artist and the bouncer were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital.

The bouncer affected insisted on pressing charges as thus he and Oritse Femi went from the hospital to Bar Beach police station, where Oritse Femi accepted his offense and pleaded for mercy, he was granted bail at 7pm on the 12th of November and advised to report back to the station on Tuesday 15th of November 2016.

We were hesitant to release a press statement as several well meaning people have attempted to intercede on behalf of the artiste but after his malicious and grossly false account of the event that occurred, it is only fair that we defend the integrity and ethos of our organization.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE ARE

–          Quilox is the number one luxury nightlife brand in Nigeria, all areas of our establishment are premium as thus the allegation of denying access of certain people to certain areas is completely unfounded. This particular issue happened on a table of six at the upstairs part of the club not in the entire VIP area.

–          Quilox treats all our patrons with the utmost respect and dignity, our professionalism and uncompromising customer service is what has kept us at the peak for so long, the poorly worded statement by Oritse Femi’s media team claiming our CEO made derogatory remarks towards our loyal clientele (A-list celebrities) is reasons best known to him, because instead of taking responsibility for his actions him and his management are looking for artistes support, to what cause?

–          Club Quilox did not press charges against the artiste despite his unruly behavior at our establishment, however the bouncer in question has signified his intention to pursue his fundamental human rights due to the grave bodily harm that befell him.

–          The music industry veteran – Sound Sultan is a member of the Quilox family and cousin to our CEO as thus it is impossible for him to be treated in the manner Oritse Femi implied, as a matter of fact he was one of those who quickly diffused the situation before it got out of hand.

–          Club Quilox prides itself on the premium luxury lifestyle experience we provide our patrons, we abhor violence and do not support or condone any such acts on our premises.

–            Oriste Femi did not report ANY missing jewelry in his statement at the Bar Beach Police Station neither did he make any reports to the management of Club Quilox.

Attached are graphic pictures and a video of the bouncer Oritse Femi assaulted and also a picture of Oritse Femi at the hospital before taken to the police station, with the said weapon included. We thank our members and patrons for their unrelenting loyalty and custom as we assure them of their continued safety and comfort at Club Quilox.

Club Quilox Releases Statement On Fight Involving Oritse Femi

Featured Image

The management of Club Quilox has released a statement following an incident at the club involving MSN singer Oritse Femi.

In the early hours of the 12th of November 2016, an unfortunate incident occurred between music act Oritsefemi  and a member of the security team at Club Quilox

The in.cident started at about 2am Saturday morning when Oritsefemi came into Quilox without prior reservation or table booking. It is important to note that tables are allocated to customers who have made prior paid table bookings in advance of their arrival except such customer is a patron member of the club and tables are allocated on availability in such case.

However Oritsefemi who did not fall into any of the categories above approached a patron and after pleading was accommodated on patron’s table, but with the understanding that other guests of the said patron were still been expected to join the table shortly which Oritsefemi agreed to. It is important to note that this is a table that could only accommodate a maximum of  six people over looking the center of attraction part of the club.

In a surprising turn of event, Oristsemi who was drinking from the patron’s bottle, threw caution to the wind by attempting to sit some of his guests at the table, the surprised patron strongly rejected such effrontery and invited the bouncer guarding the floor to intervene .The bouncer politely approached Oritsefemi and told him that the patron who owned the table did not want any of Oritsefemi’s guest joining in as the patron’s guests were still being expected as he previously informed him. However Oristefemi in a fit of unprovoked rage slapped the bouncer then proceeded to breaking a glass in his hand and stabbing him in the eye. Despite his position or the power he thinks he has as a celebrity, this is not an excuse for inflicting grave bodily harm on another human being.

The scene quickly became rowdy as other customers rushed to the table and confronted the artist for his violent behavior, our security team quickly stepped in to salvage the situation by carrying Oristefemi out of the club (this is our standard procedure for violent altercations) while other members of staff focused on giving First aid treatment to the bouncer who almost lost his eye and had already lost so much blood. Oristefemi faced by an enraged crowd outside and perhaps realizing the gravity of his offense pretended to collapse. The artist and the bouncer were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital.

The bouncer affected insisted on pressing charges as thus he and Oritsefemi went from the hospital to Bar Beach police station, where Oritsefemi accepted his offense and pleaded for mercy, he was granted bail at 7pm on the 12th of November and advised to report back to the station on Tuesday 15th of November 2016.

We were hesitant to release a press statement as several well meaning people have attempted to intercede on behalf of the artist but after his malicious and grossly false account of the event that occurred, it is only fair that we defend the integrity and ethos of our organization.

–          Quilox treats all our patrons with the utmost respect and dignity, our professionalism and uncompromising customer service is what has kept us at the peak for so long, the poorly worded statement by Oritsefemi’s media team claiming our CEO made derogatory remarks towards our loyal clientele(A list celebrities) is reasons best known to him, because instead of taking responsibility for his actions him and his management are looking for artist support, to what cause?

–          Club Quilox did not press charges against the artist despite his unruly behavior at our establishment, however the bouncer in question has signified his intention to pursue his fundamental human rights due to the grave bodily harm that befell him.

–          The music industry veteran – Sound Sultan is a member of the Quilox family and cousin to our CEO as thus it is impossible for him to be treated in the manner Oritsefemi implied, as a matter of fact he was one of those who quickly diffused the situation before it got out of hand.

–          Club Quilox prides itself on the premium luxury lifestyle experience we provide our patrons, we abhor violence and do not support or condone any such acts on our premises.

–            Oristefemi did not report ANY missing jewelry in his statement at the Bar beach Police Station neither did he make any reports to the management of Club Quilox.

Attached are graphic pictures and a video of the bouncer Oritsefemi assaulted and also a picture of Oritefemi at the hospital before taken to the police station, with the said weapon included.

We thank our members and patrons for their unrelenting loyalty and custom as we assure them of their continued safety and comfort at Club Quilox.

Atletico Madrid have survived an injury scare to Antoine Griezmann, as the France star escaped a broken foot injury in the win over Sweden.

The forward was taken off in the first half of Friday’s win, after taken a blow to his left foot. And withdrew from the friendly against Ivory Coast as precaution.

Medical checks have revealed he only suffered heavy bruising, and he’ll continue to undergo treatment in the hopes of being fit enough for the Madrid derby come November 19.

“In the x-ray that was completed yesterday, an injury to the bone was ruled out, and the diagnosis indicates that he has suffered a trauma with a hematoma on the left foot,” an Atletico statement read on Sunday.

“Both the medical services of the France national team and those of Atletico Madrid have agreed for the Frenchman to return to Madrid, where he has already been placed in the hands of our physiotherapists.

“During the day on Monday, he will continue with a new course of treatment and his recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Griezmann was eager to play down fears of a significant problem and promised fans that he would do everything to be available for the meeting with Real Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.

“It’s not too serious,” he said, as quoted by Marca. “But I have to work morning, afternoon and night to be ready.”

Griezmann has eight goals and five assists in 14 games for Atletico in all competitions this season.

Andy Murray Is World Number One, After Raonic’s Withdrawal From The Paris Masters

The world No 2 was only hit with a warning after his projectile went in the direction of coaches Boris Becker and Marian Vadja.

The ball flew past Becker and Vajda and only narrowly missed a spectator.

At this year’s French Open, he threw his racket and almost hit a line judge during his quarterfinal win over Tomas Berdych.

Djokovic went on to beat Thiem 6-7 (10-12) 6-0 6-2, but when questioned about the incident in his post-match press conference, he replied: “I keep doing these things? Why don’t [I] get suspended, then?

“I’m close? I’m still not suspended, so if I’m not close, I’m not close. It could have been [serious], yes. It could have snowed in O2 arena, as well, but it didn’t.

“I’m the only player that shows his frustration on the court? That’s what you are saying? It is not an issue for me. It’s not the first time I did it.”

Depay Won’t Rule Out Move To Everton

Featured Image

Manchester United’s Memphis Depay has refused to rule out a move to Everton, but wants to focus on the Red Devils.

The former PSV winger has been linked with a move to Ronald Koeman’s side, with the Dutch manager admitting he’ll love to have him on his roster.

However, when he spoke to reporters after Netherlands 3-1 win over Luxembourg, the winger said he was concentrating on his football at Man United.

“I do not know, we’ll have to see,” he said.

“I focus on United, I do my very best to be able to get minutes.

“I’m going back to United with a good feeling, because I have got minutes here and we won. That is the most important thing.”

The Dutchman’s future has been plunged into uncertainty after failing to establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s plans thus far this season.
