This disclosure was made in Abuja on Wednesday by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Suleiman Kazaure at a media parley organized for editors and reporters from media houses.

He said that although the scheme can only cater for 86,000 out of the 170,000 eligible for the next service year, but it had taken necessary precautions to ensure the rest partook in the service.

The NYSC-DG said: “In the 2016 budget, provision was made for the mobilisation of a total of 210,000 corps members. However, the figure for both 2016 Batch ‘A’ and Batch ‘B’ has more than doubled the original projection.

“Like we did before the 2016 Batch ‘A’ orientation course, we have appealed to government for special intervention grant to mop up excess of this figure.

“So far, we have received the green light from the relevant government agencies to prepare for the mobilisation of all qualified prospective corps members.

“However, the limited cumulative capacity of the orientation camps nationwide necessitates a second stream orientation course for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ which is planned for January 2017.”

Kazaure also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and some state governors, for their intervention in strengthening the operations of the NYSC.

With this, the 2016 Batch ‘B’ Stream ‘I’ orientation course is expected to commence on November 24, while the stream ‘II’ will commence in January 2017.

Cannavaro: Don’t Blame De Boer For Inter’s Troubles

Featured Image

Inter legend Fabio Cannavaro believes Frank De Boer should not be blamed for the club’s troubles and he should have gotten more time.

The former Ajax manager was sacked November 1, 85 days into a three-year contract he signed after losing seven of 14 matches.

He was replaced by former Lazio manager Stefano Pioli. But Cannavaro has leapt to the defence of De Boer, placing the blame for Inter’s struggles on the board.

“Frank de Boer definitely showed in the Netherlands that he’s a good coach,” Cannavaro said via Sky.

“It’s not his fault. The fault lies with those who chose him and are still there working. It’s a bit of a culture in football, and it’s wrong.

“A coach needs time to get to know the players, the environment, the fans and the culture of the club. You can’t solve everything in one or two months.”

Inter are ninth in the standings, eight points adrift of city rivals AC Milan.

The report also claimed that the “CBN governor has allayed the fears of skeptical Nigerians and disclosed that thorough checks carried out on the organisation shows that it is a legitimate investment facility.”

It added: “A top official at the Ministry of Finance said even the federal government has invested the sum of N100b in MMM so that the interest of N30b can be reinvested in capital projects across the nation.”

Premier League: 7 Man United Players To Miss Clash With Arsenal On Saturday

Featured Image

Manchester United could be without seven key players for this weekend’s English Premier League crunch clash with Arsenal, with the entire first-choice back-line set to be absent for the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s highly-anticipated home game against Arsenal kicks off at 12. 30 p.m. on Saturday.

Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are sure to miss the tie with injuries, while Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are major doubts for the fixture.

READ ALSO: Zlatan Ibrahimovic To Miss Arsenal Clash

Following the injury crisis, Jose Mourinho has called for a review of the team’s medical facilities, with his team languishing in sixth spot after 11 games.

A loss against Arsenal for Mourinho’s men, his first against Arsene Wenger in the league, would be a massive blow to their chances of coming back in the title race.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be absent following a suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Swansea City.

Marouane Fellaini is recovering from a calf injury while Wayne Rooney missed England’s games in the international break following a setback on the injury.

The striker is a doubt for the weekend clash and will be assessed on Friday before a decision is taken on his fitness.

Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia is back in training for the Red Devils, but may be short for the game against Arsenal, while Shaw has reported pain in the leg that he broke last season.

Phil Jones is set to return to the first eleven and is likely to be partnered by Daley Blind at the back, who has previously been used at left-back in the absence of Shaw.

A loss for Mourinho would open up a nine-point difference with the Gunners, who are currently two points adrift of Liverpool at the top of the table.

United have already lost 4-0 to Chelsea and 2-1 to Manchester City this season and will be desperate to avoid another defeat against a potential top four rival this time around.

Premium Times quoted a top official of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Borno State, Abbas Gava, as saying that Dasa and Duwabayi communities, in Monguno Local Government Area, were attacked by the terrorists between Monday and Tuesday.

Gaya said: “We received the sad information from our colleagues operating in Monguno who said on Monday that gunmen attacked Dasa, a village about 3km away from Monguno during which they killed nine persons”.

Outrage As Young Boy Was Beaten, Burned To Death In ‘Epic’ Jungle Justice | Watch Video

Featured Image

The graphic footage of a young boy, who was beaten and burned to death in Lagos state, has stirred outrage and reactions within the social media community, as Nigerians are demanding for the immediate prosecution of his killers.

While reports remain conflicting as to the crime he committed and what he actually stole, the uncompromising grip of jungle justice, however, descended on the young lad, who was said to be a seven-year-old, in the morning of Wednesday, November 16.

A source who witnessed the scene said he was caught while trying to break into a shop where food stuff are sold in the early hours of Tuesday.

This is even as another eyewitness claimed that he was caught while trying to steal people’s phones and money at Orile-Iganmu and not garri (staple commodity) as speculated.

Others maintained that the child was not the thief but only attempted to stop three hoodlums, who later fled.

It remains unclear where the incident occurred and what led to the mob action, but what is clear is that this boy was seen with blood gushing out of his head as his attackers meted jungle justice on him.

After beating him up mercilessly, a tyre was forced through his head and he was burnt to death, despite pleas by many to hand him over to the police since he had not actually committed the crime.

The outrage and outcry sandwiched in curiosity from Nigerians led to the state police weighing in with information on the incident.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, who is the officer in charge of the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), at the Force headquarters, Abuja, took to his Twitter handle to clarify that the person that was killed was a man and not a boy, and that his corpse is currently in the mortuary for autopsy with investigation ongoing.

When contacted, the command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police  (SP) said:

“Studying the video to ascertain if it occurred. Got the report through social media. If established that incident actually occurred, the command would ensure that those behind it are fished out and brought to justice.”

Bus Driver, Conductor Abduct 8 Schoolchildren In Ogun

Featured Image

Officers of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a bus driver and his conductor for allegedly abducting eight pupils of Oyes Faithful College, Ifo.

The suspects, Akorede Ogunjobi (driver) and Kazeem Adelere (conductor) were said to have been attacked and almost lynched by an angry mob.

But for the prompt intervention of policemen from the state command, who took them into custody, the suspects would have been victims of jungle justice.

The Punch gathered that 10 pupils of the school had on Tuesday joined the commercial bus marked, AKD-948-XJ Lagos, at the Techno bus stop after leaving the school.

It was gathered that two unidentified men sat beside the driver, while the conductor manned the bus entrance.

After allowing two of the pupils to drop at their designated bus stop, the driver was alleged to have feigned ignorance while the other pupil indicated that they wanted to alight at their bus stop.

The driver, it was learnt, shunned their calls and continued speeding on the expressway, while the conductor was said to have stood at the bus entrance to prevent the pupils from escaping.

Apparently aware that they are now victims of abduction, one of the pupils in Senior Secondary School 1, Akorede Aliu, 13, jumped off the bus while on motion.

Some minutes later, another male Junior Secondary School 1 pupil, Ajibose Fawasi, 11, was said to have also leaped out of the bus, leaving behind six female pupils.

It was at this moment another vehicle blocked the commercial vehicle’s path and forced it to a halt.

A lawyer, Isaac Durowoju, who drew the attention of the police to the scene, as jungle justice was about to be meted out on the suspects, added that the injured pupils had been taken to the hospital.

He said, “After two of the pupils alighted at Iya Abiodun bus stop, other pupils observed that the driver took to the fast lane and started speeding.

“When they told the driver and the conductor where they would alight, the two men laughed at them. While on motion, two boys jumped out at different intervals, but the driver refused to stop. This was what aroused the curiosity of a motorist, who blocked him three bus stops from where he should have stopped.”

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Ahmed Ilayasu, had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran.

The Senate has summoned Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of Finance, after attempts to prevent the one-week warning strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday failed.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki, who presided over a three-hour closed-door meeting with the leadership of the union, refused to speak to reporters after the meeting.

While addressing reporters, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, Senator Jibrin Barau, said the Senate could not stop the warning strike.

He, however, assured that the intervention of the senate would prevent the strike from transforming to an indefinite action.

Baru said the minister of finance has been invited to a meeting with ASUU, the ministries of education and labour on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

His words: “We have had a fruitful deliberation and a way forward has been found by creating a sub-committee of this committee to sit and find out certain things in the Ministry of Finance, which will bring us closer to the resolution of this problem.

“We will start sitting tomorrow (Thursday), including the Minister of Finance (Kemi Adeosun), who has not been able to attend this meeting but we are sure she will be here tomorrow and the Director-General of the Budget Office.

“We have created a template on how to resolve this problem. And you know ASUU is a democratic body, they have to consult. So, it’s ongoing; it’s a work in progress and a very important headway has been created. A good template has been created and we see light at the end of the tunnel.”

The National President of ASUU, Abiodun Ogunyemi, who earlier declined to speak on the outcome of the meeting, later thanked the Senate for its intervention.

Boxing: Ward – “Kovalev Is A Bully”

Featured Image

Andre Ward believes Sergey Kovalev will underestimate the threat he’ll face this weekend and called him a “big bully”.

Ward will challenge the Russian for the WBO, IBF and WBA light-heavyweight titles come Saturday night.

Both boxers are unbeaten and highly ranked among the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Kovalev says he is ready for a street fight on Saturday.

That would be fine with Ward, who thinks the Russian will be in for a shock when the pair begin to trade blows.

“I am just going to be me,” said the 32-year-old American.

“I am not putting too much stock in anything that he does well or does not do well. He is going to be the best version of himself Saturday night and I am just prepared for war.

“Whatever it is going to take to leave with those three titles and become a five-time world champion, is what I am willing to do.

“I would not say [it will be] a street fight. I don’t know how much of a street fight he is really going to want when the fight really starts.

“Just like the mistake that a lot of my opponents have made, he has this type of fighter that he thinks he is going to be fighting, and it is going to be different than what he thinks.

“He is a big bully and he talks a good game.

“He tries to intimidate with ‘he does this, I am going to do that’. Well, do it, and then see what happens.

“For every action that he has in there, [there] is going to be a reaction and he just needs to understand that.”

Dier: We Have To Stick To One Plan

Featured Image

Tottenham hotshot Eric Dier has praised interim England manager Gareth Southgate for not tinkering with tactics at the end of a year of which different tactical approach left the team operating at a low frequency.

Late goals from Spain, saw England play out a 2-2 draw at Wembley. The friendly was Southgate’s fourth match in charge, garnering seven points from three matches as England sit top of their qualifiers table.

Dier believes his former England Under-21 boss has made his mark on the team and was encouraged by the boldness of sticking to a plan of building from deep and pressing Spain high up the field – customarily the calling cards of the visitors, who were instead on the back foot for large parts of the contest.

“I think that’s what we’ve been doing over these four games now and you could see it [against Spain] better than in the other three. We got our rewards up until the end.

“Sam was good as well, he had a way of playing and he stuck to it and believed in it 100 per cent.

“Gareth is the same way. I think at times you can be half-hearted – you play out and then you lose the ball playing out so you want to go long; you go long and why didn’t you play out?

“You either do it or you don’t, for me. I think we’ve been getting better at that.”

On Southgate’s long-term job prospects, Dier added: “I think what he’s done over the four games is obvious. What happens is not up to us so it doesn’t make a difference what I say really.”

Tite: Brazil Had To Make Changes Against Peru

Featured Image

Brazil head coach, Tite has praised his side after they played a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Peru in Lima. He also praised their opponents, who he admitted forced him to make changes.

The win over Peru is the Selecao’s sixth consecutive victory in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, they’re closer to qualifying for a spot in Russia.

However, the five-time world cup winners had to withstand a early onslaught from Peru, who almost went ahead, but Carrillo saw his shot hit the post.

“In the first half we faced an aggressive side who attacked from midfield,” Tite said.

“We could only impose ourselves as a strong Peru side naturally tired as the game went on. Then the spaces began to appear, and we set out to ensure our individuals exploited the space.

“With Neymar finding it difficult to break through, Renato Augusto, Philippe Coutinho and Dani Alves started to appear on the right. It was a very difficult game I’m very happy with the way we coped.”

Tite’s Brazil are yet to go behind and have largely dominated all six of his matches in charge. However, on Tuesday they were forced to weather the storm during the first half and the coach said he made some vital changes at half-time.

“I swapped Paulinho and Renato Augusto,” he said.

“[Christian] Cueva was working behind Renato Augusto on their right, and I knew if he kept finding space he could create a goal.

“If the ball arrived to Paolo Guerrero I knew he would score, I worked with Paolo at Corinthians, so I moved Renato to the right, where he could play with Coutinho like he did at times with [previous coach] Dunga. The second half was much better.”
