Conte Lauds Chelsea’s Attitude In Record Equalling Victory

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has praised Chelsea’s teamwork and attitude after equalling Arsenal’s record of most consecutive victories.

The Blues 4-2 win over Stoke City marked their 13th successive victory. A record Arsenal set in 2001-02.

Chelsea went ahead twice, with Stoke equalling on both occasions, before Willian scored his second and Costa put the win beyond doubt.

“This is a great achievement for my players, for the club, for our fans after a bad season like last season,” Conte told Sky Sports.

“I’m pleased for them because every day in the training sessions and during the game, I see great attitude, great work-rate, will to fight, to try to win. After two times the other team drew [level], the will to find another win, I’m pleased for them and they deserve this.”

Asked about the harmony he has with the players after the match, Conte replied: “It is important to have good relations, not only between me and the players but also all the people who are working in Chelsea and working with us.

“This is the real secret, this family, we win and we lose together, with the players, the staff, all the people who is working for Chelsea.”

Conte was seen high-fiving the supporters in celebration during the game and conceded: “During the game it’s very difficult for me to keep my emotions [in check]. When we have this type of game, very tough, and we find the right way to win.”

Pogba On Late Comeback: This Is Why We Love Football

Featured Image

Paul Pogba is overjoyed with Manchester United getting a comeback victory against Middlesbrough, as he scored the late winner.

Grant Leadbitter got the goal for Middlesbrough and strong defending from Karanka’s men look set to hand them a rare win over United.

However, Martial got the equaliser with five minutes left on the clock and Pogba got the winner after heading in Mata’s cross.

The comeback victory was a perfect gift for Sir Alex Ferguson, who was in the stands celebrating his 75th birthday, and Pogba revelled in a classic comeback.

“It’s beautiful – it’s why we love football,” Pogba said. “The win was very important.

“We had a lot of chances and we could have won the game easier, but we are very happy with the three points.”

Khan Says He Is Better Than Brook

Featured Image

Amir Khan is hoping to get a British super bout agreed for 2017, claiming he is a better fighter than Kell Brook.

The British boxer has been out of action since May after suffering a brutal knockout against Saul Canelo Alvarez, and be hopes to get a tune up fight before he fights Brook.

Khan has had surgery on his hand since the loss to the Mexican, with Brook also needing surgery on his eye socket after losing to Golovkin.

Khan said: “I’m a better fighter, a much more skilful fighter. I’ve been in with better opposition than Kell.

“I think Golovkin is the only ‘A’ fighter he has fought. With me, I’ve been in with the likes of [Marcos] Maidana, Danny Garcia, Zab Judah – I’ve fought the best names in boxing. I think it’s time now where I shut Kell Brook up, and his team, and I settle the score to show who the No 1, and the best fighter in the UK, is.

“I am happy to take that fight. I always said Kell Brook has to prove himself and he has done that by getting in the ring with Golovkin.

“He showed he is a tough guy and he’s not afraid of fighting anyone, and it’s worth now going into the ring with someone like Kell Brook. No one really knew him in America but now he has made a few noises.

“We do have our problems and we do want to settle the score, but the right way in the boxing ring. Then we can show who the best 147lb fighter is. I’ve told my team I want the fight.

“Obviously, with Kell having that surgery and me having the surgery, I want to get back in the ring and have a tune-up fight come April just to get my hand back in action and see how I feel. Maybe the one after that could be Kell Brook.”

As well as Brook, Khan has his sights set on Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, two of the fighters to have beaten him.

Azpilicueta: I’ve Always Stayed True To Chelsea

Featured Image

Cesar Azpilicueta has stated that talk of leaving Chelsea never crossed his mind, the spaniard revealed after signing a new three-and-a-half year deal.

The Spain international got an assist for Chelsea, as Costa scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and now plays centreback under Conte.

According to the Spaniard, not even during the Blues’ darkest days in the 2015-16 season was he tempted to seek new pastures.

“I’ve felt really welcome since I arrived and I’ve always felt I was at the right place,” he said in the club’s match-day programme on Saturday.

“That’s something I don’t have any doubts about and it’s why I wanted to sign a new contract because I am happy here.

“I want to win trophies, last season we couldn’t get any, so I want to get back to winning ways because that’s what I came here for. This year is the next chance for us to do that and we have to chase it.

“A long period of my career has been at this club and since I moved here I have never thought about moving. Even when I wasn’t playing at the beginning of my time here, I always felt the confidence of the club and knew the only way I could get back into the team was why working and getting my chance.

“Under Antonio Conte I want to keep working in the same way and win trophies – that’s what we all want.”

Khan Backs Haye To Beat Bellew

Featured Image

British boxer Amir Khan does not see Tony Bellew beating David Haye when they meet on March 4 at The O2.

Khan knows Bellew is a good fighter, but doesn’t expect the cruiserweight to successfully step up to heavyweight.

Bellew believes when the match against Haye goes deeper, he will force the 36-year-old to quit.

“I think he’s maybe just tried to bite too much by going in the ring with a heavyweight,” Khan told Sky Sports.

“I like Bellew. I think he’s a great fighter and a great champion. I think he should have stayed at his own weight category.

“David’s a natural heavyweight and he’s a very big puncher. Can he deal with that power? Can he take them big shots?

“David has also got a lot of speed. I can’t see [Bellew] winning this fight. I am sorry to say that. David is much bigger and much stronger and has a little bit more experience going into that fight.”

Costa Hails Hazard’s Match Deciding Ability

Featured Image

Chelsea talisman Diego Costa has hailed and praised teammate Eden Hazard for his ability to win matches.

The Belgium captain has improved since his underwhelming 2015-16 season, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances.

And Spain international Costa is impressed with the attacking midfielder’s upturn in performance.

“Eden is just incredible,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“He is the sort of player who is able to win a match by himself. He is extraordinary.

“There are very few people like him. He is very confident in what he does and he is transmitting that confidence to us.”

Costa himself has been equally impressive, but he is adamant he is not in the form of his life just yet.

“I have been better than I am now,” he added.

“And that gives me more motivation to try to get better. That is what I will carry on doing. I do not set myself personal targets, in terms of goals and assists. What I try to do is improve, always.

“If the previous campaign has not been very good, or even if it has, I just try to do a better campaign than the one before.

“My main aspiration, and not just mine, my team-mates’ too, is to conquer the title again. I felt we like had something to prove coming into this season.

“Last season we left a debt behind, so to speak. And that is the secret to our great form this season. We owe a lot to our people and we are hoping we are going to be able to pay that back.”

Simeone Says He Will Remain At Atletico

Featured Image

Talks of Diego Simeone leaving Atletico Madrid has prompted the Argentine to commit his future to the club.

With him at the helm Atletico has challenged the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona, winning the Liga in 2013-14 and reaching two UCL finals losing on both occasions to Real Madrid.

Simeone has a contract until the end of next season, but could leave for Inter, with his sonson stating his father will join him in Serie A

Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin said this week he was confident Simeone would honour his deal, and speaking after Friday’s friendly win over Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, the coach backed up that claim.

“I will not leave Atletico,” he was quoted as saying.

As well as Inter, Simeone has also been linked with the Arsenal job, as Arsene Wenger reportedly heads towards the end of his 20-year reign with the Gunners.

Conte: Courtois Can Become Chelsea’s Buffon

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte sees Thibaut Courtois emulating Gianluigi Buffon, who has enjoyed success with Juventus and Italy.

The Belgium international is being sought after by Real Madrid, which has prompted Conte to back him to represent Chelsea long-term.

Courtois who is still 24 is expected to perform at high level, with Buffon at 38 still earning praise.

“I hope for Thibaut to repeat the same career as Gigi Buffon,” Conte said.

“I think that Buffon is one of the best goalkeepers of all time. I worked with him at Juventus as a team-mate and then as his coach, in the national team also.

“I think Buffon is a legend for football and I hope Thibaut has the same career as Gigi.

“He has great potential to continue to do great things, to reach great targets.”

Of the rumoured interest from Madrid, Conte added: “Look, Thibaut is a Chelsea player and I want him to stay here. I think he’s very happy. I see him with this club for many years. I want this, the club wants this. I don’t see any problem.

“A contract is a club decision. But, in my opinion, yes, I think that a goalkeeper like Thibaut deserves to stay at Chelsea for many years and become a type of player to stay and write the story of this club, to become a legend at this club.”

Mignolet Wants To Be Number One

Featured Image

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both been in immense form for Liverpool sparking rumours of an exit for the Belgian shots topper, who says he doesn’t want to be number 2.

Karius replaced the Belgium international in the starting lineup earlier this season, but has regained his spot in the starting XI.

And Mignolet who joined the Reds in 2013, is determined to be the number one at Anfield and remain between the sticks.

“I’ve said all along I don’t want to be a number two goalkeeper,” he told the Times of India.

“I’m 28 years old and I want to play week in, week out.”

The Reds are currently second in the table, six points behind leaders Chelsea, ahead of a crunch meeting with fellow title contenders Manchester City.

“We are feeling good,” he said.

“This year Liverpool have been proving that we have a real chance to win the Premier League. We know it is going to be a very tough battle right to the end but these are the games we have to win.

“Until now I give almost eight out of 10 to the team for what we have achieved so far. But we are only halfway through.”

All Hail James Ibori, The Kleptomaniac “Redeemer”, By Ahmed Oluwasanjo

The euphoria that engulfed Delta State a few days ago as jubilant supporters of James Ibori, former governor of Delta State, took to the streets in celebration, shortly after the news of his release from a UK prison broke, confirms the stance of Professor Wole Soyinka on the “death of common sense” in Nigeria.

This piece was written by Ahmed Oluwasanjo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Sometimes in August 2015, a religious crusade was organised to intercede for the release of Ibori, I recall. The invitation card to the crusade ridiculously read: “Crusade! Crusade!! Crusade!!! Rise Up Deltans For A Grant Bail And Release Prayer For Our Amiabke Brother, Redeemer And Daddy. Enough Is Enough.”

READ ALSO: James Ibori Regains Freedom After Spending 6 Years In UK Prison

Praying for a thieving “redeemer” then sounded more like one of the social media jokes. However, the celebration that followed Ibori’s release from prison seemed a proof that the prayers of many Deltans where answered.

But, why rejoice over the release of a hopeless pen robber whose heist and abuse of high office took away part of the future of a generation?, many wondered. Why won’t they celebrate their own?, I responded on a number of occassions. Those asking would need to look back to when it began to rain.

Please don’t get me wrong. Condemning those celebrating Ibori’s release is fine. But, the sad thing is that Ibori is not the first criminal turned celebrity, and he will certainly not be the last in Nigeria.

Moreover, if some yam-head Yorubas could jettison their much cherished omoluabi creed, shamelessly adorn themselves in aso ebi to attend a special thanksgiving service in honour of Bode George, a People’s Democratic Party chieftain who was sentenced to time in Kirikiri for fraud, shortly after his release in 2011, why should some slavish Deltans not celebrate their own Ibori, an international ex-convict?

Not too long ago, we saw how some northern talakawas sheepishly thronged the airport to welcome erstwhile governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and his two sons shortly after they were granted bail from Kano prison for alleged contract kickback rackets.

Although the National Bureau of Statistics ranked Jigawa State among one of the poorest states in Nigeria in 2013, seven years after Lamido assumed office has governor, yet, “Lamido is the best thing that has happened to Jigawa State”, his cheering supporters had claimed then. If such encomium was good for Lamido, why is not OK for Ibori?

What about former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who was jailed for money laundry? Have we forgotten how his puppet, former president Goodluck Jonathan granted him presidential pardon in 2013?

That’s not all.

In spite of the fact that Wikipedia put Alamieyeseigha’s loot in cash and asset at some $3.2 billion, still an insolvent Bayelsa State that could not pay the salaries of its workers gave him a state burial on his demise.

Again, if Bayelsans could celebrate a corrupt Alamko, a man who bled the State raw, in death, why should Deltans not celebrate a living, even if thieving, “redeemer” in Ibori?

READ ALSO: James Ibori Due To Become A Free Man In December

Let’s face it, that some riffraff protested that the Code of Conduct Bureau should stop the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki on false asset declaration; that some morally bankrupt persons protested against the possible probe of the former minister of Petroleum, Deziani Allison Madueke; that a bunch of shameless women protested against the freezing of former first lady, Patience Jonathan’s $15 million; and the fact that some debased never-do-wells brazenly crafted the #BringBackCorruption and gave it flight on social media, evinces that fools are gradually outnumbering sane people in our society. It also reveals how well corruption has permeated our society.

That this barbaric culture of celebrating criminals cuts across our religious, regional and ethnic spheres tellingly shows how close we are to the edge of the cliff. By implication, it is an encouragement for other pen robbers to continue with their malfeasance, since the society always honours them, even after they have been convicted.

In saner climes, people dissociate themselves from people with criminal records. But in ours today, people take pride in being known as friends and supporters of corrupt politicians whose malfeasance have brought untold misery and agony to many Nigerians.

Why are we like this?

Ironically, those celebrating corrupt politicians are those who would bestially hack down petty pickpockets at the slightest opportunity. If I may ask, how are the Iboris of this world different from Lawrence Anini, the notorious armed robbery gang leader who terrorised the old Bendel State? I could imagine Anini weeping uncontrollably in his grave, wishing he had carried out his heists with the pen like his counterparts in politics.

But I digress.

We have seen how debased the supporters of Ibori are. Nonetheless, Nigeria being what it is, we shouldn’t be taken aback if some irresponsible folks call for a state pardon of Ibori or if some charlatans in cassock liken him to the biblical Joseph or Nelson Mandela of South Africa, who both left the prison to become prime minister and president of their respective countries, forgetting that Joseph and Nelson Mandela were never imprisoned for being a thief like Ibori was.

Celebrating Ibori and other criminals like him tells more about our sick society and not them.

Leave Us Alone – Why Every MMM Participant Has Already Lost (1), By Sunday Adelaja

“Mind your business! Mind your business… I borrowed money, mind your business! To do MMM… mind your business…”

Maybe you are thinking what this line above is. It is a lyric from a rather funky song that is being distributed by MMM participants. My amazement had no limit when I saw the video clip on YouTube. Four young Nigerians – three boys and one girl – were singing as if they were leading a church choir, with the same passion, zeal, energy and enthusiasm. It all looks like a praise and worship session until you listen more attentively to the words of the song. You will feel like you’ve just been hit by a 16-wheel truck. At least to any human being who is still rational; and those who have not lost their ability to think and reason will know that our country is fast heading towards a monumental catastrophe with this kind of attitude.

This piece was written by Sunday Adelaja. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Calling Good Evil and Evil Good

For obvious Christian youth to be singing on worldwide public platforms about Ponzi and pyramid schemes unashamedly is highly unfortunate. Worse still, these young people are singing about what has been well established worldwide as an act of fraud, stealing and theft. What they are doing actually constitutes acts of ignorance.

“Goodness is something chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man.” ― Anthony Burgess

1. They are glorifying vices instead of virtues;

2. In Christianity or any religion whatsoever, theft, deception, and fraud are sins. So they are glorifying sins too;

3. These people are not only proclaiming to the world that they are thieves and fraudsters, they are actually celebrating these vices;

4. Another thing they are doing is rejecting the voice of reasons by saying “mind your business”;

5. They are shutting up the mouth of the elders, people who know better than them, which is a direct violation of the sixth commandment: ‘Honour your father and mother, that it may be well with you and you may live long’;

6. They are praising the vice of bad debt, not borrowing for business, industry or commerce;

7. They are borrowing money to put in a fraudulent scheme, putting their benefactors in danger of never ever getting their money back;

8. The conscience of these young people are totally sealed, demonstrated by their actions;

9. These young people lack the ability to distinguish between good and bad. That is a national crisis;

10. From the way they think, it is obvious they are talented. Unfortunately, their talent is being used to glorify the virtues of darkness.

I am concerned, worried and alarmed by the apparent decline in virtues that I observe, not just in the Nigerian nation, but in our youth these days. In most countries of the world, the youth are looked at as the future of their nations. The youth are often referred to as the future leaders. Can you begin to imagine what it means for a nation when the future leaders and the supposed future of the nation cannot differentiate between good and bad? This is an extremely alarming situation, which should capture the attention of every well-meaning Nigerian.

“To see evil and call it good, mocks God. Worse, it makes goodness meaningless. A word without meaning is an abomination, for when the word passes beyond understanding the very thing the word stands for passes out of the world and cannot be recalled.” ― Stephen R. Lawhead

Why We All Must Be Concerned

My shock is not only in relation to the four young people mentioned in the earlier part of this series. It is a tendency, one which was repeated by another young man, Precious Ubogu, who came out to repeat the same words that everybody talking about MMM should shut their mouths. The same tendency was manifested by another misguided enthusiast by the name of Musa Usman. To make things worse, some of these blinded youth actually call themselves pastors. A few of them actually wrote me to express their disagreement with my stance. They believe MMM and other “get rich quick” schemes they are involved in are the way to go in this economic recession that Nigeria is currently facing.

In Ecclesiastes 10: 16-17, we see a very profound statement from King Solomon. “Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!”

According to this Scripture above, woes, curses and tragedies are the portion of any nation whose kings and princes eat in the wrong manner. As we have already mentioned above, the youth of any land are the future leaders of that country. So if our future leaders, our princes, are so misguided as to taking evil to be good, then the future of our nation is doomed. Hence I believe it is my obligation and the duty of every well-meaning Nigerian to raise our voices against the lack of virtues and the spread of vices in our society.

READ ALSO: Why Every Nigerian Must Know About MMM (1)

That Scripture above speaks about kings and princes eating in the morning. That means they eat at a time when they are not supposed to. Morning is not a time for feasting; morning is a time for labour. When the MMM proponents want to feast where they have not laboured, they have already lost. They have lost because the word of God and His standards can never be compromised without consequences. When the Bible says woes, curses and catastrophes are the portion of those who engage themselves in such practices, it is, my friends, an unavoidable finale.

Will We Have a Future or Not As a Nation?

What schemes like MMM and others are doing is to invite people to neglect hard work and dignity of labour while expecting to harvest where they have not sown. Princes eat in the morning because they are expecting to get something for nothing. These youth eat in the morning because they just want to lie in their beds, not working, not doing anything, yet reaping off their friends, relatives and colleagues through their 360 percent returns. This is the reason why they have already lost. They will reap, sooner or later, sorrows and losses. “Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!”

“I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.” ― Charles de Lint

The only way for Nigeria to avoid the impending collision with these consequences of the lack of virtues is to begin to raise an alarm right now. We need to begin to give our young people a clear message in differentiating what is wrong and what is bad. If we as a nation are to avoid the woes, curses and tragedies spoken about in Ecclesiastes, we must take charge of giving sound orientation to our youth and future leaders. All informed Nigerians should join the campaign to sanitise the national psyche of our youth.

A Challenge Not Just For the Government

This is a task that must not be left only for the government to pursue. They are clearly overwhelmed with other national duties. It is time for every Nigerian to begin to call a spade a spade. Our churches have largely failed in the sense that most of them too cannot differentiate what is wrong from what is good. In our churches we have reduced righteousness only to the common known sins of smoking, drinking and sex. Other virtues are almost buried, while detailed and thorough analyses have not been given to qualities that are responsible for national growth and development. Virtues like trust, faithfulness, integrity, hard work, diligence, excellence, attention to details, perseverance, truth, responsibility, delayed gratification, contentment, etc. are usually disregarded.

“The greatest temptations are not those that solicit our consent to obvious sin, but those that offer us great evils masking as the greatest goods.” ― Thomas Merton

It is this disregard that will make such young men as mentioned above to think that they are not doing anything wrong when they promote Ponzi schemes and pyramids. In their mind, as long as they are not smoking, drinking or having illicit sex, they are Christians and they are fine, not knowing that being a Christian is much deeper than their surface knowledge.

The Bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge. A careful read of that Scripture in Hosea 4:6 will reveal to us that it is not just ignorance or lack of knowledge that causes destruction. The real reason for the destruction that comes upon people is not just because they don’t know, but because they refuse to acknowledge their ignorance. This is the problem that I see in a lot of our young people today. They don’t know, yet they refuse to admit their ignorance. Hence, destruction is practically inevitable, unless we do something quick and fast.

“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.” – Hosea 4:6

Presidency Denies Rumour Of Magu’s Dismissal As EFCC Chairman

Contrary to reports making the round, the Presidency has said Ibrahim Magu, has not been relieved of his appointment as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Guardian had earlier reported that his redeployment back to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is a move by President Muhammadu Buhari to usher in a new nominee before the Senate

It added that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami has already issued Magu a letter on the latest development and has instructed him to hand over to the Director of Operations in the commission.

However, Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed today that “it is not true, the president had not authorised Mr. Magu’s removal.”

Also lending voice on the rumour, another Presidency spokesperson, Garba Shehu, dismissed the Guardian story as untrue.

“We are reading reports that the @officialEFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has been sacked,” Mr. Shehu tweeted Saturday.

“No report has been made available to the Presidency by the Attorney General of the federation over the matter.”

“The report of his sack is therefore speculative and preemptive.”

Majek Fashek Says Former Friends Charles Novia And Azuka Jebose Defrauded Him

Featured Image

Nigerian reggae music legend, Majek Fashek, during an interview with ThisDay has accused former friends and partners, Charles Novia and Azuka Jebose of conniving to cheat him and profit off his work.

Majek Fashek was one of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports in the 90’s but he’s also been one of the country’s most troubled artistes with repeated drug and mental issues threatening both his career and his life.

In the interview, Majek said, “I want Nigerians to please help me stop Charles Novia and Azuka Jebose from defrauding me. A lot has been happening, which I am giving a little tip. I have never had a contract with Charles Novia.”

“He put me in trouble with my American boss. Even the ‘Little Patience’ Album – I did not receive a penny from it. The song was recorded by Coral Music, Los Angeles.  And I am still having problems with them because I tried to help him use the song to boost him for the Nigerian audience to help his November Records.”

“Because of his scam that November Records is down, I have never had a managing or recording contract with him. He should present our contract to Nigerians, he owes Coral Music. That’s why I had big problem with Coral Music. Azuka is full of scandal. I have never had contract with them and they have no right to negotiate my business; they have been using me for too long.”

It didn’t end there as he also asked to know who singer Timi Dakolo paid before making use of his hit song ‘Send Down The Rain’, going on to state his lawyers will contact Azuka Jebose soon.

“I also need Timi Dakolo to present the management he paid to and how much by going to use my song and earning money from iTunes and making money from Send down the rain.”

“Azuka, a cab driver in America, whom I gave support – they are friends. I am not joking because my solicitor will contact him soon and we will make it public.”

Nigerian Army Presents Shekau’s Boko Haram Flag To President Buhari

Featured Image

On Friday night, the Nigerian Army hosted President Muhammadu Buhari to a Guards Brigade Regimental Dinner in Abuja and presented him the captured Boko Haram flag.

According to reports, the flag was handed over to the President by the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-Gen. Lucky Irabor. The army men of the Operation Lafiya Dole operating in the North East had ‎‎successfully captured ‎the‎ “Camp Zero”, ‎the strongest enclave of the Boko Haram sect, in the Sambisa Forest.‎

Gen. Irabor, had disclosed that ‎about 1,240 suspected Boko Haram terrorists were arrested during the mop-up operation by troops inside the Sambisa forest.

While receiving the flag, President Buhari challenged the army to continue to ensure the survival of Nigeria as a geo-political entity despite what he described as “political madness’’ being exhibited in some parts of the country. According to him, it is duty bound for the army to ensure the sustenance of peaceful co-existence among all 250 ethnic groups across the country.

“All these political madness in the North East, the Niger Delta or in the East should not be allowed to cause division or any form of tension in the country. There are 250 ethnic groups, so keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done, even for your personal reason you must make sure this country remains united and stronger,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai urged the officers to always maintain the courage and discipline they were known for in 2017 and beyond. He assured that the military would continue their onslaught in the North East, and would not rest in mopping up of the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents.

Allardyce Snubbed CSL For Premier League Stay

Featured Image

New Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has revealed he rejected a big money move to China before accepting the job with the eagles.

The Chinese super league is making huge money moves in the transfer market, with Shanghai SIPG signing Oscar for £60 million and Tevez reportedly becoming the world’s highest paid player with his move to Shanghai Shenhua.

Allardyce stated he was approached to coach in China after his fiasco with England that led to his sacking, but rejected the approach in favour of remaining in the Premier League.

He said: “Did I have an offer? Yes. I didn’t go. I could have gone but I preferred to stay here.

“It’s difficult for a player or a club to turn that down, it’s just the way of the world and changing forces in the football world.

“China has decided it wants to be a force and has decided the way to do it is to buy the best players and pay over the odds. Time will tell if it’s the right thing to do.

“Money talks. But if we lose the top, top players from the Premier League then absolutely [it will suffer].

“We didn’t want to lose Gareth Bale, or Ronaldo. But it’s a small world today in football terms and players will pick up their boots and travel.

“What we have to do is encourage the growth of our younger players and produce better talent.”

Mourinho: Depay On Sidelines, Because He’s Leaving

Featured Image

José Mourinho has revealed the reason Memphis Depay is not in his first team plans is because he is looking to leave Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international has not made much of an impact since joining United from PSV, playing only 20 minutes for Mourinho this season.

The 22-year-old midfielder has only played in eight matches in all competitions for United this season.

And United manager Mourinho explained the reason why Depay has been on the sidelines in 2016-17.

“He was not playing last season. It was not that last season he was playing phenomenally and this season he is not playing at all. That’s not the situation,” Mourinho said.

“I have to say that in the past couple of months my decisions in relation to Memphis were influenced by the feelings and information that he would like to leave in January and that we were going to have a real offer that we would be willing to accept. That obviously influences me.

“If I know, if I have the feeling that a player is leaving – if I have to give chances and develop other players – then I go to [Jesse] Lingard, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, [Anthony] Martial, the players I know 100 per cent who are going to stay with us. It is a position where we have more options.”

United welcome Middlesbrough to Old Trafford for Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Wenger: This Season Is Disappointing

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has called the 2016-17 epl season a dissapointing one on all levels for the Gunners.

An influx of top managers in the epl has the likes of Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Wenger battling for the trophy. However, Conte’s Chelsea is top of the log and ahead by six points.

Arsenal are fourth, nine points off the pace, and Wenger admits that the campaign has not lived up to expectations.

“We are in the middle of a championship with the best managers in the world competing, and it’s been disappointing on all levels,” he told reporters.

“It promised to be an exceptional year but we have not produced the kind of games England is remembered for.

“A Premier League season is always marked by two or three games that are absolutely spectacular and so far we haven’t produced that. I feel there is more to come from this competition than we have produced so far — and I include myself in that.”

Wenger believes that a fear of losing games is the reason for the poor results thus far, but is now hoping that each major club throws caution to the wind in the second half of the campaign.

“We have a responsibility to raise the level of the spectacular,” he added.

“Because there is so much money in the Premier League and every game has become so important, every manager is under pressure not to lose as his first priority.

“All the teams in the Premier League are now top quality — maybe the difference between the favourites and the smaller clubs makes some teams just defend.

“But we have the best managers in the world, I’m sure we’ll see more games when everyone really has to go for it and it’s no longer a case of ‘wait and see’ but ‘go out and make it happen’.”
