Enrique: Clasico Is Not The Title Decider

Featured Image

Barcelona play Real Madrid tomorrow at the Camp Nou and manager Luis Enrique does not think the match will decide the title.

Barcelona are currently six points off Real Madrid at the top, and a loss to their rivals could prove detrimental.

And racking up a third loss of the season will not bode well for Barcelona and Enrique, but the former Madrid midfielder believes it is too early in the season to be placing such emphasis on one game.

He told reporters at his news conference: “Regardless of the result, I don’t think anyone could say it’s decisive.

“It’s the 14th game of the season. Clearly Madrid could take a very interesting lead but whatever the result I don’t think it will be determinant in the league.

“The game is a chance to beat Real Madrid and to get closer to the top of the table, nothing more.”

Luis Enrique does not think a win would end the criticism of his side either, adding: “It’s important to win the Clasico as they are a direct opponent with the same aspirations as us but to think winning would put all criticism behind us is not going to happen. There will always be criticism.”

Barcelona are not anticipating any tactical surprises from Madrid with Luis Enrique expecting the hosts to have the majority of the possession at Camp Nou.

“I think Real Madrid will be similar to last year and the start of this season, they have no problem in letting the opposition have the ball,” he said.

“But they have great transitions, they have quick players, they move the ball quickly with short passes.

“We are going to try to control the ball more, play the possession game, try to generate space that we can then exploit.

“They are a very organised side, a team that does not need the ball to compete and who base their game on the transition out of defence and on set-pieces.

“They are achieving very good results, they have very good players and for us it’s a very special game against our eternal rivals.

“We are at the Camp Nou and we go in with the intention of playing well against a very good opponent.”

United Pip Chelsea And Arsenal To The Signing Of Ajax Wonderkid

Featured Image

Manchester United have signed Ajax wonderkid, Millen Baars, beating Chelsea and Arsenal to his signature.

The 16-year-old signed for the Old Trafford club in October and his father, Stefan has now confirmed the acquisition.

The winger, who captains Ajax under-17 side was invited for tours around Chelsea, United and Arsenal, but declined the invite to the Emirates after deciding to join Mourinho’s side.

“We have had talks with Ajax that were between Millen and the club,” Stefan Baars told Noordhollands Dagblad. “But it was certainly nothing shocking, he was even appointed captain this season of the B1.

“Ajax is a great club with a very good youth, but they can unfortunately not cope so very well. You saw in the past with other youth players who now play at other clubs. But Millen was ready for a different challenge.

“He played nine seasons in Amsterdam and he has always had the dream to play football in England at Manchester United.

“There was interest from Italy, Portugal and England, but when he was at Chelsea and United to look, he knew he wanted to play in Manchester.

“He did not even see Arsenal, his choice was made.”

Conte: Such A Pity Chelsea Sold De Bruyne

Featured Image

As Chelsea are gearing up to play Manchester City, Conte has stated it is such a pity that the club sold De Bruyne.

Chelsea have notched seven straight wins and are just one point ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City.

And De Bruyne is likely to make the difference in the clash between the two clubs, as he has developed into one of the best midfield playmakers in the world since leaving Stamford Bridge for Wolfsburg in 2014.

And Conte has admitted he is an admirer of a player the Blues allowed to slip from their grasp under Jose Mourinho.

“De Bruyne played with Chelsea and I think he is a really great player,” Conte said when asked if Chelsea had let De Bruyne go prematurely.

“It is a pity that now he is playing for another team.

“For sure this is the case because he is a fantastic player, but now he plays with Manchester City. I wish him the best – after our game.”

Conte is hoping to be able to name another unchanged team against Chelsea’s title rivals but will check on the freshness of a couple of members of the starting XI that has hit such fine form.

He continued: “No injuries at the moment, we have to check on the physical condition of one or two players and then decide the line-up tomorrow. I prefer to keep this secret.

“I’m pleased for all the players that are playing. Those on the bench understand. There is the right atmosphere.

“I think tomorrow it’s a really tough game. It is a great test for us, for our formation, to continue this way. We know that it won’t be easy because we face a really great team, with a great idea of football.

“I think it is another step to show if something has changed compared to the start of the season.

“For sure it is a big game. This season we played also a big game against Arsenal Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, but I think in this league every game is a big game because it’s very difficult and very tough.

“For me this is my first season in English football and these games are new in my career experience. It’s fantastic and I’m looking forward to playing.”

An Impending Fuel Scarcity: Why President Buhari Must Act Now!

An Impending Fuel Scarcity: Why President Buhari Must Act Now!, By Dayo Williams

Since agriculture was advertently or inadvertently sidelined by successive Nigerian governments, most especially when the commercial production of crude oil started in the 1950s, the petroleum sector has been the mainstay of the nation’s economy till today.

This piece was written by Dayo Williams. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

In spite of the claims of diversification of the economy by various governments at one time or the other, crude oil remains the main generator of the country’s revenue.

Regrettably, this all-important sector has been dominated and hijacked by some inglorious cabals who have been feeding large on the weak institutional regulation from time immemorial.

From available information, successive governments have tried to checkmate the nefarious activities of these cabals but it appears each time the government tries, they always map out new strategies to beat the government. In summary, they are always ahead of the government.

The cabals in the downstream sub-sector could be likened to the proverbial cat with nine lives. The sub-sector has always been in coma even though government continually strives to “inject life into a sector that is being dragged back”, an independent marketer, who pleaded anonymity for fear of being attacked, confided in me in the course of gathering information for this piece.

He said: “the efforts of the current government of President Muhammadu Buhari must be applauded but there is an urgent need to intimate the government on the new way the cabals are thwarting and frustrating the genuine efforts of government in restoring sanity to the hitherto derelict downstream sector that is notoriously known for its corruption, and less popular for playing its expected role of making quality petroleum products available to all Nigerians.”

Still, he asserted: “although, whenever there is fuel scarcity in Nigeria, members of the public tend to blame the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN). It is true that we control about 85 percent of petroleum outlets across the country; it is always our desire to make petroleum products available because that is the only time we make profit. We do not make profit when the products are not available.”

He said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in collaboration with cabals in the industry always seeks to create artificial scarcity because “the more the product is scarce, the more the kickback accruable to them.”

Another independent oil marketer, who has been a key player in the downstream sector for decades, said that inasmuch as members of IPMAN are ready to cooperate and support the anti-corruption efforts of the Federal Government, the government should not be oblivious of certain realities in the sector.

He decried the spate of corruption in the sector and predicted the scarcity of petroleum products by December this year, if government does not take adequate measures on time. According to him, “we have to be fair to the government of President Buhari; he has brought relative sanity to the sector. However, the government needs to know that there are some ‘big boys’ in the sector that are still working tirelessly to sabotage the efforts of the government.”

Continuing, he said: “sometime in March, 2016, the NNPC unilaterally, and for unfathomable reasons, abruptly withdrew the status of some independent oil marketers through an internal circular but, however, reserved the status for only major marketers and few independent credit oil marketers.”

Based on my findings, in the past, the government used to provide credit facilities to independent petroleum marketers with stringent conditions, but the NNPC, through its internal memorandum, has abolished these arrangements and replaced it with a draconian arrangement which favours only the few but powerful oil cabals.

The independent marketer said the decision by the management of NNPC was such that the major marketers and the other few independent marketers, who are beneficiaries of the new draconian policy of the NNPC, are given monopolistic right over petroleum products marketing in the country, saying “the cabals are re-strategising, in flagrant connivance with some bad eggs in the NNPC.”

“There is imminent scarcity of petroleum products. Christmas is around the corner and the cabals are working hard to create artificial scarcity in order to give this government a bad name. The sufferings and the pains of the masses are their gains. The cabals in the downstream sector are used to free lunch and the day subsidy was removed was the day this free lunch was taken away from them.”

“Ironically, the NNPC claims that it wants to open-up the market but this market is only open to a few cabals. How can the NNPC open up the market by according credit right to a few major marketers? I have over 40 distribution outlets across the country and about 1000 Nigerians make their livelihood from my chain of distribution. For over 20 years, we have never defaulted our credit status. One of my distribution outlets in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, requires a full tank on a daily basis to service our customers. A tank is over 30,000 litres. In all, we require seven tanks to meet up with the weekly demands of our customers. And for weeks, we have not had supply and this is what the cabals really want. They want queues to return to our filling station”, the independent marketer said.

“For weeks, my distribution outlets that service thousands of Nigerians have not had petroleum products. The era of scarcity is gradually returning. Christmas season is fast approaching. The government must act fast,” another independent marketer warned, in a phone exchange with me.

“Although the NNPC claims that it has withdrawn credit sales to all oil marketers across the country, there are strong indications that the corporation has hand-picked major marketers and few independent oil marketers and accorded them the right to access credits from the government. By according credit right to a few oil marketers, the NNPC is perpetrating the monopoly it claims to have curtailed,” he said resignedly.

Considering the fundamental roles fuel plays in the lives of Nigerians, it is imperative the Buhari-led administration takes a decisive stance against the ‘big boys’ in the oil industry who are already planning to create another artificial scarcity this yuletide with the satanic aim of hiking the price of the all-important commodity. If there is a fuel price hike this yuletide, coupled with the biting recession, no one can foresee what the end will be. To be forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

The Twitter account also acknowledged that the website had crashed.

How Two ‘First Class’ Corps Members Died At NYSC Camps 48 Hours Apart

The gale of death paid an unfriendly visit to the orientation camps of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), ripping lives out of the hearts of three corps members within the space of one week.

The NYSC had extended the date for orientation course nationwide to Sunday 27th November, 2016.

On November 29, Miss Ifedolapo Amoke Oladepo was declared dead in the NYSC Camp in Kano state.

The Punch quoted one Sen Ajibolu Marcarony Yusuff, who appears to be a relation of the deceased, as saying that she had called home five hours to her death requesting that her older sister, Mrs. Oyeyode Abimbola (a nurse) start coming to her orientation camp, because she wasn’t being given the much needed attention by the Doctors deployed by the scheme.

Yusuff said the late 26-year-old corps member who graduated with a First Class degree in Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, was given injection at the orientation camp’s clinic, but that she called home to say that she had reacted to the injection, as she noticed visible rashes all over her body.

Yusuff continued, “When a male doctor agreed to speak with her sister (Oyeyode Abimbola), he explained that Ifedolapo was having anaphylaxis (acute allergic reaction) and that they intended to place her under observation for an hour before transferring her to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.”

Yusuff claimed that it took about five hours before the camp management transferred Ifedolapo to General Hospital, Gwazo, instead of the AKTH as promised – where it was impossible to communicate with her.

Thirteen hours later, the family allegedly received a call from the Kano State NYSC camp officials informing them of her death.

In reaction, the the KANO Coordinator of NYSC, Abdullahi Baba disclosed that:

“The truth of the matter was that the Coper did not died at the camp, she died in the hospital. She was sick, treated at the camp clinic, and when she was not responding, she was taken to second facility hospital at Gwarzo General hospital “.

“I have reported the matter to my Head office, she was handled by our doctors in the camp before she was transferred to Government hospital.”

The coordinator further distanced the Camp management from the Corper’s death stressing that “we have nothing to do with her death, the records and the file are there, the Doctors that treated her at the camp are there likewise those that treated her in her at the Government hospital”.

Similarly, on December 1, another First Class graduate of Petroleum Engineering from the University of Uyo, Mr. Ukeme Monday, died in Zamfara State orientation camp.

Though the cause of his death remains unknown, one of his school colleagues said that two of them had shopped together a few days to the orientation camp, and that they departed Uyo for their respective orientation camps on November 23.

“It was thus a rude shock to me when, on December 1, I heard that Monday had died,” the classmate  narrated.

In addition to his First Class certificate, it was learnt that Monday had also won four scholarships and other top academic prizes as a student.

Monday’s death followed another report of a female corps member, Elechi Chiyerom, who was said to have died in the Bayelsa camp.

“I’m On Sex Strike,” Man Tells Court As Wife Pleads For Divorce

Featured Image

In an attempt to punish his ‘sex-starved’ wife, and make her change for the better, a man has admitted to an Ibadan Customary Court sitting in Agodi on Friday that he was on “sex strike” in the last one month.

This is even as the housewife, Sherifat Asimiyu pleaded today with the court to dissolve her 10-year-old marriage with Mr Saheed Asimiyu.

The housewife had told the court that apart from starving her of sex, Saheed was also in the habit of beating and biting her whenever they have domestic quarrels.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the complainant as saying that she could no longer cope without sex, as her husband had not slept with her in the last six months.

She said, “There is no doubt about his ability to provide food, money and other material things for me and the two children of the union but I am not satisfied with all these without sex.

“He abandoned me deliberately, I cannot take it anymore because I am still young and I see no reason for his action.

“To make the issue worst, he was in the habit of beating and biting me whenever we have misunderstanding over minor issues.”

In admission, the husband, who is a motor spare parts dealer, told the court that he had starved his wife of sex, as he was on “sex strike” in the last one month, to punish the woman for her bad character – in a bid to make her turn a new leaf.

The husband told Chief Mukaila Balogun, the president of the court, that he had warned her several times to stop associating with bad friends, but she had ignored him.

Saheed also said that he would not prevent his wife from getting the divorce she asked for, “if that is what will make her satisfied”.

In his judgement, Chief Balogun, upheld the prayer of the woman and approved the dissolution of the marriage.

The judge further ordered the defendant to be paying N6,000 to Sherifat as monthly allowance for the upkeep of their two children.

“I can only say that we are here and we want to help.

“He (Ronaldinho) fits the profile, can be the right guy. But the moment is to help families and it would be (wrong) to create expectations for now. As Brazilians, we feel involved. We are together.”

Inside Story: How The Indimi’s Messy Scuffle At Aso Villa Triggered Buhari’s Daughter Marriage Postponement

Featured Image

There are strong indications that the planned high profile marriage ceremony between Zahra Buhari, and Ahmed Indimi, may have been postponed due to the physical altercation that ensued during the delivery of several stacked dowry boxes valued at N44 million (using the official exchange rate) to the first family.

While Nigerians were left dumbfounded to hear that President Muhammadu Buhari has postponed the wedding ceremony between his daughter and Ahmed Indimi, the son of an oil magnate from Borno State, Mohammed Indimi, many were not aware of the messy fight that made the president take such decision.

Daily Trust had earlier announced that the wedding was slated for today, 2nd of December 2016 and to be held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

However, This Day gathered that trouble started on November 18, during the traditional introduction ceremony, when the sister of the groom, Yataka Indimi, insisted on taking her mobile phone into the Presidential Villa, Abuja, contrary to security protocol.

Sources close to the polity squealed to the online newspaper that in line with the Hausa/Fulani tradition, the boxes, contained cash, jewelry, clothes, bags, shoes and other gifts valued at several millions of naira for Zahra and the first family.

It was learnt that Yakata planned on recording all the proceedings, including the delivery of the boxes made by the French luxury brand, Louis Vuitton, with her mobile phone – which in totality went against the standard security protocol in the villa.

When accosted by the security officials to comply with the protocol, Yakata, it was gathered, resisted and then a scuffle ensued.

The incident attracted the attention of other dignitaries who tried to stop the scuffle.

According to a reliable family source, the argument degenerated to a scuffle, compelling the wife of the Nasarawa State governor, Mrs. Tanko Almakura, to step in to stop the altercation from getting out of hand and may have injured her arm in the process.

“As of today, we learnt that the Nasarawa first lady is still nursing her wounds and is being treated for a dislocation,” the source said.

It was learnt that following the embarrassing incident, the president, who was apparently peeved, threatened to return the boxes and stop the marriage ceremony that had been scheduled to climax on Sunday, December 4.

“We learnt that the president who was displeased with the development and behaviour exhibited by the Indimi family, vowed to return the boxes and not approve of the marriage.

“The president was also of the view that the gifts were too expensive and incompatible with his modest lifestyle and has asked the Indimis to take the boxes back.

“I think we must give it to the president for taking this stand, and cementing his reputation for not tolerating indiscipline,” a source close to the presidency said.

However, elders close to the Buhari and Indimi families are at the moment trying to prevail on the president not to return the boxes, as he would be bucking tradition.

They are also working on resolving the tension that has arisen since the altercation, so that the wedding could go ahead as planned, if not this weekend, then as soon as possible.

Further findings revealed that while Buhari might not be favourably disposed to the idea of marrying out his daughter to a wealthy suitor, the wife of the president and her daughters, who are more liberal, are rooting for the marriage.

Lagos State Begins Total Crackdown On Motorcyclists

The Lagos State Government on Thursday declared that it would begin a total crackdown on commercial motorcyclists – popularly known as okada riders – from plying the restricted 475 roads across the state.

According to the state government, the honeymoon for okada drivers was over, its time to wield the big stick.

In a meeting held yesterday in Ikeja, which had the state government and the police in attendance, the Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, warned that government would no longer tolerate okada riders on restricted roads, highways and bridges.

He said: “We will not condone okada riding against traffic, especially those who ply their trade along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Ojota-Ikorodu Town and who use BRT restricted/reserve lane. All these are not in sync with the law. There is a need for us to, at this time, restate the provisions of the law so as to understand the premise of our planned actions in this regard.”

“In line with this administration’s plan to build a Lagos that works for all, we are determined to engage with unions/associations of tricycle operators and okada operators to ensure their members engage with us in the process of ensuring public safety.

“Our present concern is also borne of the need to prevent accidents resulting from okada which is on the increase currently. By implication, there are increased (death) cases of causalities or maiming resulting therefrom; there is a surge in driving against traffic by okada. We are also witnessing a huge increase in motorcycle-related crime.”

The Guardian quoted the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde as saying that out of the 9,000 roads in Lagos, okada riders were only restricted from plying 475 roads, while they could ply the rest.

A representative of the state Commissioner of Police, ACP Imohim Edgal, said policemen in all area commands in the state have been directed to enforce aggressively the restriction placed on okada riders from plying the restricted routes.

Even though no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, the accusing fingers were pointed at “some aggrieved ex-militants, who were left out in the amnesty programme of the state and Federal Governments.

A source who witnessed the incident told Vanguard that:

“There is every reason to believe that the perpetrators of the gory act are aggrieved ex-militants.”

According to the source who is a villager:

“Two former commanders of the militants, who are now living very big, are natives of the two communities attacked by the rampaging hoodlums.

“The two ex-militant commanders now live like kings in choice hotels in Owerri, while their former colleagues live in abject poverty and want. The situation is more than enough to annoy anybody.”

“The attack left traces of fear, sorrow, tears and blood.”

Wade: I Sacrificed My Game, More Than LeBron Did At Heats

Featured Image

Dwayne Wade is gearing up for a showdown against former teammate and close friend, LeBron James and has stated he sacrificed more of his game when the pair played together at Miami.

The Bulls guard said while he and James knew someone’s game would have to suffer when they decided to pair up at Miami, it was his game that suffered the most.

He didn’t have to have a conversation with James about it because the answer was obvious to both men.

“I definitely changed mine more,” Wade said with a laugh after Thursday’s practice. “It’s not even a conversation. There’s no conversation to have. I definitely had to change mine more.”

“We all knew the sacrifice that was going to be [made],” Wade said.

“Obviously, you sit down and you talk about playing together. You think you know what’s [going to happen], you try to cover things in that moment, but then once you start playing together you realize it’s harder than what you thought.”

“But we all knew we had to sacrifice. Chris Bosh, too. He’s somebody who they don’t talk about, he had to sacrifice a lot too. But at the end of the day, we sacrificed points, article hits, but what we gained was championships, friendships and brotherhoods that last a lifetime. So I’m sure if we could do it all over again we’d do it exactly the same way.”

Karius: United Not In Title Race

Featured Image

Loris Karius has stated he does not see Manchester United in the running for the Premier League title.

The Liverpool goalkeeper believes Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool have a shot at the coveted title.

All four teams the German goalie named currently occupy the champions league spot, with Arsenal in fourth and just three points away from table-topping Chelsea.

“Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and us,” he told Kicker when pressed for his pick of the Premier League crop.

“That quartet is standing eye-to-eye.

“Many thought City with Pep Guardiola would be the favourites, but Chelsea went on a brutal run recently.

“The direct duels could be decisive.”

Liverpool sit second at present, but Karius insists no-one at Anfield is getting swept up in the wave of optimism that is building behind Jurgen Klopp’s troops.

He added: “It’s a dream that is still far away.

“We’ve not made that [winning the league] our goal because if you do and finish second you’d think the season was a disappointment.

“Our goal is to play in the Champions League next term.”

Carrick: Leaving United Will Be A Hard Decision To Make

Featured Image

Michael Carrick has stated that playing for another club other than Manchester United will be hard for him, as his contract looks to expire soon.

The 35-year-old midfielder has a contract that is due to expire at the end of the season, but Mourinho has suggested a contract extension for the veteran. However, that is still yet to be decided, as his future remains uncertain.

Carrick has played just three times in the Premier League for the Red Devils this season, but the lack of playing time and clarity over his role at Old Trafford is not weighing heavily on his mind.

“[Leaving Man Utd] is not something I am looking to do at the minute – it would be very difficult to play somewhere else,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Everyone is different. It depends on circumstance. It depends on a lot of things.

“I have said all along, I am relaxed about [my United future]. It depends if I am playing and if I am playing well enough, if I feel I can contribute, if the manager feels I can contribute.

“There are a lot of things to be decided. I am quite relaxed.”

The England international is aware of the difficulties of continuing to play at a high level at his age but feels he has adapted his game around those challenges.

“You just have to understand what you can and what you can’t do really,” he added.

“At any stage of your career, people have their strengths and what they can’t do so well. You just have to put yourself in a position where you can play to your strengths more often than not. You learn that from experience.

“As long as I am enjoying it, can feel I can contribute and the manager does then great.”

Ranieri: Don’t Blame New Signings For Deep In Form

Featured Image

Claudio Ranieri, Leicester City manager will not blame their poor form on the new players at the club.

The current Premier League holders are hovering above the relegation zone at 14th position and are clear by two points, despite big money signings in the 2016-17 season.

The foxes acquired the likes of Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa and Nampalys Mendy for eight-figure amounts during the transfer window. However, they’ve only impressed in the UCL, where they’ve made it to the last 16.

But Ranieri is not pointing fingers at Leicester’s recruitment team, insisting all players need time to adjust to a new club – just like Riyad Mahrez did when he signed from Le Havre in January 2014.

“The recruitment is very good and I’m very happy,” Ranieri told reporters ahead of Saturday’s away game against Sunderland.

“But it’s not always certain when you bring in new players that they start very well.

“Riyad Mahrez started in his second year. If he needed six or seven months, imagine [how it is for] the others.

“If we compare with last season, we are missing everything, but the spirit is the same.”
