Costa: Chelsea Took Advantage Of Misfiring City

Featured Image

Diego Costa has stated that Chelsea were handed the win at Etihad due to the poor finishing of the hosts.

Gary Cahill’s own goal put City ahead in the closing stages of the first half, and City lost the chance to extend their lead in the second half, missing clear goal chances.

Kevin De Bruyne’s miss in the 57th minute came as a shock, with the midfielder hitting the crossbar four yards out with Courtois already beaten.

Costa got the equaliser for Chelsea on the hour mark, before assisting Willian’s goal, which pit the blues ahead.

Eden Hazard then ensured Chelsea would earn all three points with a goal of his own, as Conte’s men won 3-1.

“We are working very well tactically, everyone knows what we have got to do,” Diego Costa told Sky Sports afterwards. “Manchester City had opportunities to score a second goal, but they missed.

“We got more confidence when we levelled the scoring, then got another opportunity to score and we took it.

“It was a great game.”

Cahill, meanwhile, enthused about Chelsea’s overall performance and believes they showed the requisite character to further extend their unbeaten run.

“We gave everything on the pitch,” the defender added. “It was a test for us. It shows another side to our football.

“That is eight wins now, which we can build on.”

Guardiola On Aguero’s Red Card Foul: It Was Unintentional

Featured Image

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola does not believe Aguero’s foul on David Luiz was intentional.

The Manchester City forward was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle on David Luiz during the closing stages of the 3-1 loss to Chelsea.

The Argentina international could be handed a four-match ban, seeing as he has already served a three-match ban earlier this season.

Guardiola would not discuss referee Anthony Taylor’s officiating, who let Luiz off the hook after a foul on Aguero earlier in the game. However, he referenced decisions in the league that has gone against his side.

“It is a pity it finishes like this,” he said after the game. “It was the way the referee decides. It is a pity. I apologise.”

When it was put to him that Aguero had lunged in at Luiz, the City boss tried to downplay the seriousness of the incident.

“Both players,” he replied. “He went down and he touched him. It wasn’t intentional.”

Asked if he really thought it was unintentional, he added: “I don’t think so. Maybe I have to understand many things here but the referee says red card so red card. Like Nolito…”

Nolito was sent off against Bournemouth for pushing his head towards Adam Smith back in September, a decision which Guardiola still appears not to have come to terms with.

According to the spokesperson of the commission, Joe Abuku, the new process was a slight change in which Visa staff now only need electronic versions of support documents.

With the new process taking full effect as from December 5, 2016, customers applying for a UK visa in Lagos, Victoria Island and Ikeja, would bring applicants benefits from digital improvements to the UK visa application process.

The statement added that: “TLSContact (responsible for UK Visa Application Centres in Nigeria) will scan your supporting documents whilst you’re at the visa application centre, and then return your original documents to you.”

“They will then send these (electronic) documents to UKVI, with your passport and application form, and visa officers will consider your application in the usual way.”

In order to avoid delays in the visa application centre, the Commission requested applicants to ensure they complied with requirement to provide all documents in A4 size, while any other documents smaller or larger than A4 should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper.

Moroccan King Signs 15 Bilateral Agreements With Nigeria

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari and King Mohammed VI of Morocco met on Friday at the Presidential Villa to facilitate discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral and economic ties between the two countries.

Nigerian Guardian reports that Buhari and the visiting King were expected to sign about 15 bilateral agreements, specifically touching on trade and the oil sector.

“The Moroccan monarch, who was received on arrival by the President, proceeded to inspect a guard of honour mounted by officers and men of the Brigade of Guards in the forecourt of the Presidential Villa.

“The brief event was preceded by a 21-gun salute.”

He, thereafter, accompanied Buhari to the National Mosque for Jum’at ‎prayers before they returned to commence talks.”

Speaking with State House Correspondents, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, stated that at the end of the three-day visit, Nigerians and the citizens of Morocco would benefit immensely from the renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Speaking on what Nigeria stands to gain from the King’s visit, the minister said:

“Hopefully, in the short and medium terms, it could run into billions.

“We are looking at a trans-Africa gas pipeline that is going to run along the coast of West Africa from Nigeria to Morocco, giving us the potential to supply gas to Europe directly. We are talking of billions of dollars there.

“Also, in the area of production of fertilizer, establishing production plant here to produce fertilizer and supply to West Africa is also going to run into billions of dollars.

“The visit is very important; it is a win-win visit for both countries.”

NYSC Vows To Probe Death Of 3 Corps Members In Orientation Camps

Featured Image

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Saturday declared that it would investigate the death of three corps members who died during the on-going 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) Orientation Course in Bayelsa, Kano and Zamfara States respectively.

This is just as the Scheme expressed regrets and condolences to the families of three corps members – Elechi Chinyerum Nwenenda, Oladepo Ifedolapo and Asuquo Ukeme – adding that the insinuation of negligence being created in some quarters is not true.

The trio died some days ago, with reports making the round on social media that they would have survived if they received prompt medical care.

However, the NYSC, in a statement issued by its Director-General, Brig. General, Suleiman Kazaure, in Abuja denied the impression that the deaths were recorded because of negligence by its personnel.

He said, “The death of the trio followed brief illnesses and after medical teams in the camps battled to save them in line with established procedures. However, in view of these unfortunate incidents in Bayelsa, Kano, and Zamfara states, management has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the loss the Corps members.

“The NYSC management appreciates the concern of stakeholders, and wishes to assure the general public, especially serving and prospective corps members as well as parents and guardians that the scheme will continue to take measures aimed at ensuring the security and general well-being of youths enlisted to serve the nation on its platform.

“Their demise, coming in their prime time when they were bracing up for further roles towards advancing their respective families, the nation and the rest of humanity, came as a rude shock to us in the NYSC family. On behalf of the management, staff and corps members nationwide, I wish to express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased corps members. May the Almighty God grant them eternal rest and give their families and the rest of us the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

“While we mourn the demise of these corps members, who, out of patriotic zeal, answered the clarion call to serve their fatherland, we are constrained to correct the impression of negligence being created in some quarters.

“The management wishes to state that the welfare of corps members has always remained topmost in the priorities of the Scheme, and we have continued to strive to give our best in that regard. The policy of the scheme regarding healthcare during Orientation course provides for the setting up of camp clinic manned by qualified Doctors and other Corps Health Personnel.

“The clinics, which are also provided with drugs and other basic equipment, are detailed to render round-the-clock medical services on camp with standing arrangement to refer and ensure immediate movement of patients to more sophisticated health facilities when necessary. We want to inform the public that medical teams in our camps have always been guided by the procedures of practice and in the most professional ways possible.”

Koeman Says Everton Needs To Sign

Featured Image

Ronald Koeman has stated that Everton need time and new players to overturn their poor run in form.

The Merseyside outfit started the season in fine vein, but has only notched one win in eight Premier League matches.

Everton’s last loss was to Southampton, pushing them to seventh and eight points out of the UCL zone.

And Koeman said forays into the transfer market will be needed for Everton improve in their quest for European football, even as he urged fans to keep the faith.

“We need at least this winter and we need next summer to make changes in this club,” Koeman said.

“I still have the belief we will be successful at Everton. Maybe we need a little more time, maybe we need to make more changes in the team, maybe we need it for next season.

“We know it is a new project and everybody knows that takes time. We had a good start, it is a difficult time now but that is football.

“It is always difficult when there is a lack of confidence and a lack of belief but it can be good for me to see the reaction of the team in a difficult time. It is better to see that.

“Of course you like to have a win every weekend because everyone is happy but sometimes, to get your eyes really open, maybe this time is the best to understand what we need to change.”

Speaking on Friday at the end of the year management strategy session, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, explained that the FRSC Establishment Act gives power to the corps to bear arms and that the Federal Government had earlier approved that, with about 5,000 personnel already undergoing training on firearms.

Oyeyemi said: “The Act gives power to the Corps to bear arms and 5,000 of our personnel have been trained. We are just waiting for the validation of the earlier approval.

“Sadly, within the one year, we have lost 70 personnel. It is sad to note that some killing and maiming of operatives, including one from a sister agency in close collaboration with the Corps were in the course of official duties.

“A recent occurrence was the happening in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State where a motorist ran into the Mobile Court in session, killing three operatives almost instantly while a Civil Defence operative died later as a result of injuries sustained in the dastardly act.”

Emir Sanusi Goes Off On Those Pitching Him Against Buhari

Sanusi, who was a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), made the censure on Friday at a policy dialogue forum organised by Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development in Abuja.

According to him, it would be difficult for the loan to be granted because Nigeria has five exchange rates.

In October, Buhari had forwarded a request to the National Assembly to approve external borrowing plan to fund projects across the country between 2016 and 2018.

However, Mr. Sanusi stated that even if the National Assembly eventually grants the request, no global financial institution would give such loan.

His words: “I can tell you for free, if the Senate today approves that we can borrow $30 billion, honestly, no one will lend us.”

“It should be approved and I will like to see how you will go to the international market with an economy that has five exchange rates.

“There is one rate for petroleum marketers, there is interbank rate, there is another for money market operators such as western union, money gram, there is bureau de change rate and there is a special rate you get when you call the CBN for a transaction.

“So who will borrow you when they don’t know your exact reserve and exchange rate? I want to see who will borrow you money when the Niger Delta bombing of oil is there ‎when the main source of the loan repayment is oil.”

Arjen Robben, who assisted one of Lewandowski’s goals also got on the score sheet, as the Bavarians return to the top of the league, at least for now ahead of RB Leipzig’s hosting of Schalke on Saturday.

Afterwards, Rummenigge heaped praise on head coach Carlo Ancelotti and Co, saying: “We were very dominant today, especially in the first half.

“The victory was absolutely deserved. Carlo Ancelotti and his team laid down a marker today.

“If we play well and use today’s performance as a benchmark we have a good chance of winning the German championship title.”

Dutch attacker Robben celebrated his 150th Bundesliga appearance in style, putting Bayern ahead in the 21st minute after setting up Lewandowski for the equaliser 13 minutes earlier at Opel Arena.

“We’ve not played as well as we did in the first half for some weeks. It’s great fun for the players,” Robben said.

“Our movement was good and we came up with lots of surprises, these surprise moments we’ve lacked in the last few weeks. We played really, really well in the first half and should have scored more goals. In the second half we should have simply kept going, maintained the pace and moved the ball quickly.

“But we eased off, we lacked the pace and maybe also the movement. If we’d made it three, it would have been over.”

Cazorla Could Return Quicker Than Expected

Santi Cazorla has announced he will be back from injury in two months, which is a month earlier than thought.

The midfielder sustained an injury in his plantaris tendon in his right foor during the 6-0 win over Ludogrets back in October.

Arsene Wenger stated earlier that the Spaniard’s return was delayed due to inflammation and stated he could be out for three months.

However, Cazorla revealed on Instagram that his doctor has predicted a two-month lay-off after undergoing surgery.

He said: “We found where the pain was coming from. The doctor said to me that it’s a quick surgery and I will be back in two months.”

Cazorla missed nearly five months of action with successive knee and Achilles injuries last season and will travel to Sweden early next week for the procedure.

Rose is yet to play a score of games for the New York Knicks, but he is already looking at having a long-term career with the club.

Rose, a free agent this summer, said in a recent interview, “Of course I want to play the rest of my life [in New York].”

Rose expressed that sentiment when discussing his overall experience with the Knicks in an interview Thursday with Slam magazine.

“We’re building the culture,” Rose said in the interview. “We’re building the foundation now. I’m under a one-year contract so of course I want to play the rest of my life here. But it takes time, it takes patience to figure out how every one is going to fit, if it is going to fit and going from there.”

“I love the atmosphere (in New York), I love the environment, I love the staff here, I love the team,” he said. “… My job is to come out here and play as hard as I can and try to win every game while I’m on the floor. But as far as my future and everything, who knows? I’ll have to wait until the end of this year and figure things out but I would love to be here, though.”

The PG is averaging 16.8 points, 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds through 19 games.
