Cameron Borthwick-Jackson Could Be Heading Back To Manchester United

Featured Image

Wolves boss Paul Lambert will decide whether to keep hold of Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in January.

The 19-year-old moved to Molineux on a season-long loan in August but he is yet to feature under Lambert, who replaced Walter Zenga in November.

“Cameron’s obviously on loan here and hasn’t really featured under me, just because I felt we needed a bit more experience,” Lambert said.

“He’s a young lad, a tidy and nice footballer and he’s got to fight his way to get into the side. But he never lets himself down in training. He trains well.

“Come January, [sporting director] Kevin Thelwell and myself will start to get the squad we think can help. There’s been no official decision on Cameron and won’t be for another few weeks.”

Wolves are sweating on the fitness of Achilles injury victim Carl Ikeme for Saturday’s visit of Fulham.

Lambert gave an injury update on the keeper and said that Joe Mason, Prince Oniangue and Lee Evans were all back in training as they close in on a return.

“Carl’s doing alright,” Lambert said. “Whether Saturday is too early I don’t know. We’ll give him up until the last minute.

“He’s still feeling it but he’s doing a lot better.

“Joe trained on Saturday for the first time and he’s doing okay. Prince has trained in the past couple of days and done alright. He’s a lad I don;t know too much about. He’s done fine and the test will come, like everybody else, when you play.

“Lee’s done a little bit, which is good. Slowly but surely we’re getting a few back out of the treatment room and that’ll give me a squad of 175! No, we’re getting them back now, but yes the squad is too big.”

Crystal Palace Confirm Manager Alan Pardew’s Job is “Totally Safe”

Featured Image

Alan Pardew has been assured his job is safe by Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish.

“Alan has a 41 percent win record at Palace which is pretty astonishing,” Parish told talkSPORT.

“It’s totally safe (Pardew’s job) in that every manager is under pressure. It’s a binary industry and you have to win football matches.

“We have to find the balance. There’s plenty right and we just need to fix the things that are wrong.

“If we’re in crisis then there are a lot of clubs in crisis. We need to get points on the board and everyone is behind Alan in doing that.

“He’s a positive force around the football club. If you look at the league, the top teams have gone on to a different level but it’s very flat at the bottom.”

Pardew admitted he was under pressure before a run of six successive Premier League defeats was halted by a 3-0 home victory over Southampton last weekend.

The win lifted Palace up to 14th in the table.

Palace will look to build on last weekend’s result when they travel to second-bottom Hull City on Saturday

Middlesbrough Slap £35 Million Price Tag On Chelsea Target Ben Gibson

Featured Image

Ben Gibson has been told he is going nowhere in January after Middlesbrough slapped a £35m price-tag on him to fend off interest from Chelsea.

Gibson’s seamless adaptation to life in the Premier League has attracted the gaze of the league leaders and Everton, who are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

But Boro have made it clear they have no intention in parting company with Gibson once the transfer window re-opens.

Boro are aware the demand for Gibson will only increase come the summer.

But the North East club also recognise English talent can be expensive.

Chelsea will give Conte a transfer warchest to spend in January to strengthen his squad.

Blues supremo Roman Abramovich has already entrusted the Italian coach to implement a 3-4-3 formation.

He recognises Conte wants to bring in his own specialist players in order to utilise Chelsea’s new playing style.

John Stones’ £47.5m move to Manchester City from Everton in August is but one example.

Everton Willing To Sell Tom Cleverly

Everton are willing to listen to offers for Tom Cleverley in January, reports the Daily Mirror.

The former Manchester United midfielder has fallen out of favour at following Ronald Koeman’s appointment this summer.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year contract at Goodison Park in 2015 but has made just nine Premier League appearances this season.

Cleverley has slipped down the Everton pecking order this season under boss Ronald Koeman.

The England international joined the Toffees from Manchester United last year when his contract at Old Trafford expired in July and penned a five-year deal at Goodison Park after Everton pipped Aston Villa to his signature.

Borussia Dortmund Won’t Sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang To Real Madrid

Featured Image

Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel says the club cannot afford to sell striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Real Madrid.

In February, Aubameyang shed light on his promise to his dying grandfather that he would play for Real one day, although he later insisted they were not the only club he would consider as his next move.

But, speaking ahead of Dortmund’s Champions League trip to the Bernabeu, Tuchel reiterated the Bundesliga club’s stance on Aubameyang’s future.

“It’s normal he wants to play at Real Madrid one day, any player with his talent would like to play at one of the best teams in the world,” he said.

“But my opinion is clear. We cannot achieve our objectives without him. He’s an extraordinary player, he makes everyone better.”

Real and Dortmund are battling to finish top of their Champions League group but both have already qualified for the knockout stage with one game remaining.

Dortmund lead Group F and are two points ahead of Real, who must win to finish top.

Throwing A Lavish Party For The Dead

Featured Image

Throwing A Lavish Party For The Dead, By Okey Ndibe

I have said this before: one of the hardest tasks is to predict how Nigerians would react in any given situation. We are a perplexing bunch, able to defy the most skilled pontificator.

Imagine, then, my constant frustration. As one who has written for years on Nigerian affairs, I am often asked—both by audiences in Nigeria and abroad—to pronounce on the likely turn of events in my country of birth.

This piece was written by Okey Ndibe. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Often, in a mood of humility, I give the only response that makes sense. I confess that I don’t know. I tell the inquirer that Nigeria is a puzzle, a phenomenon whose behaviour no human can anticipate or predict with high confidence. Sometimes, when I speak in this vein, I provoke laughter in the audience. Those listening to me appear to think I’m joking, and if not speaking in jest, that I am a man who has cultivated great modesty. They seem to believe that my plea constitutes evidence of an expert deliberately posturing as an ignoramus. At any rate, they regard me as one who is possessed of insights he would not—for whatever reason—share.

READ ALSO: Recession: Nigeria’s Economic Tornado On The Verge To Hit A Volcano

Of course, it’s not always that I hearken to the inner voice of wisdom. Sometimes pride kicks in, and I succumb to its temptation. I seek to leave the audience with the impression that I know what I don’t know. Fueled by a particular sense of vanity, I venture forth with a categorical statement on how a particular matter would play out in Nigeria. I go to town. I weigh in; I play prognosticator; I make declarations.

In effect, I put on the mask of an expert (a being who, according to a joke my father-in-law relished telling, is somebody who can mislead you with confidence). When seized by that urge to play an expert, I am wont to tell an audience that, given a set of circumstances, this or that was bound to happen in Nigeria.

Audiences like that version of me better. People don’t enthusiastically leave their homes to go and listen to a person who vacillates or hedges. Often, audiences relish the sense that they are in the presence of an all-knowing savant. They crave direct answers, not equivocation. They treasure certitude in a speaker, not a habit of waffling.

That’s why, even though I know better, I sometimes take the incautious step of predicting Nigeria. I’m tempted to do so because I reckon that the expert pose delights the audience, whether it be a lone interviewer or a gathering at a university or library. Tell us how the saga of the missing Chibok girls will end, they ask. How will Nigeria’s current economic crisis affect Nigerians’ response to political corruption? I hear the questions; I know that the honest answer is, I can’t tell. Yet, sometimes, I don’t feel strong enough to offer that honest, but disappointing, response. So: I go ahead and fudge an answer. The words come across as coherent, the answer compelling, even though I know it’s little more than perfumed nonsense.

I do it, that is, pronounce on the enigma called Nigeria, because a part of me wants to believe that Nigeria should be knowable and predictable to a certain degree. And whenever I declaim confidently on Nigeria, I delight my audience. I can read their approval in their facial expression, a sense of satisfaction. I can tell when an audience marvels at my brilliance, grateful for what they take—mistake—for my expertise. And because I can see it so clearly, I experience a shattering sensation of guilt after each occasion of playing the expert.

I might as well confess again: Nigeria confounds me. And one reason this is so is that, in numerous situations, Nigerians appear to act in ways best described (since I wish to avoid using the word illogical) as counter-intuitive. I’d offer two quick examples.

Despite all the petro dollars that have passed through Nigeria, most Nigerians live in excruciating poverty. The monthly minimum wage is N18,000, a sum that is now less than $50. That’s the entirety of what some workers are paid—to cover rent, food, clothing, their children’s school supplies, transportation. Even worse, there are millions of workers who get paid much less than that paltry minimum. You’d think, then, that Nigerians would be outraged when their politicians loot millions (sometimes billions) of dollars. Instead, many of the destitute Nigerians rush to venerate thieving politicians, especially if the thieftains happen to be from the same ethnicity, local government area, or faith. They translate and inflate the politicians’ most pedestrian actions (e.g. the payment of salaries or the building of roads) into staggering accomplishment. “Governor So-so and So is doing well; he pays salaries,” you’d hear it said. Forget that the said governor may be hauling away hundreds of millions each month.

A few weeks ago, a major Nigerian pastor whose mega-church owns a university, warned critics of the university’s fee hike to hush up. In a statement, the pastor said God was involved in fixing the fees. “The school fees has God’s approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided,” claimed the churchman. He then warned that those who persisted as critics risked divine ire, including being afflicted with halitosis.

You’d think that church members and other Christians would be ashamed by the pastor’s ludicrous claim. The portrait painted of God here is so farcical and absurd. Picture God asking Saint Peter to fetch the file for a university. Then, after hard thinking, God did not decree free education; did not decide on a reduction of fees in view of Nigeria’s harsh economic climate. Rather, God said, let’s do the most sensible and divine thing: a dramatic increase in school fees!

During my recent visit to Nigeria, I was catching up with a few friends when the subject of funerals came up. These friends took turns telling me that spending obscene sums on funerals had become the latest craze in parts of Nigeria, especially in Igboland. I heard that bereaved families now compete on pulling off the most expensive funerals—complete with live music performances, wild animal exhibits, and waltzing pallbearers.

How could this be happening in a time of such debilitating economic difficulty, I asked? “O kitaa ka eji ama onye bu onye,” one of my friends explained (a loose translation: “This is when you know who is who”). It did not make sense to me. I asked numerous questions, but there was no answer. As VS Naipaul might have put it, the situation is what it is.

The situation is that men and women, ostensibly sane, have decided that throwing the most lavish parties for the dead should be the new mode of bragging. Regardless of the festering economic crisis in the country, regardless of the hordes of unemployed youngsters in the country, regardless of the thinning hope and burgeoning despair in the land—some people have figured that the most sensible thing to do is stage contests for the most gaudy, expensive and spectacular funeral.

How does one even begin to unpack this bizarre development? If there’s an expert somewhere who can make sense of this ghastly phenomenon, a sage who understands what this all means, I’m right here, waiting: do please give me a call.

Soldiers, Policemen Arrested For ‘Sexually Exploiting’ Girls Displaced By Boko Haram

Featured Image

At least two policemen, three army personnel, one prison official, one Air Force personnel, a staff of Borno Ministry for Agriculture and two members of the Civilian JTF have been arrested for sexually abusing women and girls displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency, the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Ibrahim Idris said.

In October, the Human Rights Watch had in a publication, detailed how government officials abused and raped women living at IDP camps in Borno State.

In the report, there were documentations of sexual abuse, including rape and exploitation, of 43 women and girls living in seven internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Four of the victims had told Human Rights Watch that they were drugged and raped, while 37 others were coerced into sex through false marriage promises and material and financial assistance.

As a result of this, President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the police chief and the affected state governors to investigate the allegation.

This led to the formation of a special panel to investigate the alleged abuses.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Idris said the police would liaise with the Army and Air Force to make their personnel available for a thorough investigation.

Mr. Idris said after the investigation, any suspect found guilty of the offence would be dismissed and taken to court for prosecution.

“We are going to conduct a thorough investigation and if anyone is found guilty we will dismiss him then take him to court,” he said.

He said the police had put in place some mechanisms, including the deployment of female police officers to IDPs camp, to check future occurrences.

How Barcelona Missed Out On Signing Luka Modric

Featured Image

Barcelona spurned the opportunity to sign Real Madrid star Luka Modric in 2008, according to one of Barca’s former scouts.

Modric signed for Tottenham in 2008 and established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders before moving to Real four years later.

The Croatian is now regarded as one of the world’s finest playmakers, but he could have ended up at Madrid’s deadly rivals Barcelona.

Former Barca scout Bojan Krkic, father of the Stoke forward of the same name, says the Catalans’ short-term mentality at the time prevented them from making a move for Modric.

“We had him in our hands,” Krkic told SER Catalunya. “Modric was a player with a winning mentality, but back then the club did not think about the future, only in the short to medium term.

“Our contact in Croatia told us wonderful things about Modric before he signed for Tottenham.

“I consulted [Zvonimir] Boban, formerly of Milan and the Croatian national team, and he told me Modric would be a future star of world football.

“We travelled to Modric to meet him. We were chatting along with his girlfriend. We had a coffee.

“He made a big impression on me – he spoke very fluid English and he looked intelligent, smart and cultured. Very calm.”

Any Club Can Buy Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino For £82 Million…  Except Arsenal

Featured Image

Liverpool have reportedly inserted an unusual clause in Roberto Firmino’s contract which prevents only Arsenal from triggering his release clause, according to Football Leaks.

The Brazil playmaker is reported to have an £82m buy-out option on his current deal at Anfield which allegedly stipulates “if the interested club is not Arsenal”.

The revelation suggests Liverpool have not forgotten about the Gunners’ failed attempt to sign Luis Suarez in 2013, where £40m plus £1 was tabled by the north London club, an offer viewed by many as derisory.

The report, published in Le Soir, indicates an ongoing distaste at the way Arsenal’s interest in the Uruguayan was handled.

Suarez would go on to leave for Barcelona a year later for £75m and has since scored more than a goal every other game, with Liverpool then reinvesting that money.

Firmino cost £29m from Hoffenheim last year and has proven a big hit under Klopp, particularly his link-up with Philippe Coutinho, who is sidelined through injury.

Sportsmail’s Jamie Carragher said on Monday night that there is nobody better at harrying defenders in England. Statistics show he covers more ground than any other top striker in the division.

‘Roberto Firmino is as good as anyone in the Premier League at winning the ball back and closing people down,’ Carragher told Sky Sports. ‘He is a massive part of this Liverpool team.’

Jose Fonte Clears The Air Over His Southampton Contract Situation

Featured Image

Jose Fonte has opened the door to a January transfer after he revealed Southampton would not be offering him a new contract.

In an Instagram post, the 32-year-old Portugal international refuted reports he had rejected a new contract at St. Mary’s by revealing the south-coast club had not table a new deal.

“Just to set the record straight I did NOT reject a new contract, in fact I have been informed by Southampton that they are NOT offering me a new contract,” Fonte said.

“My focus is on Thursday helping us win the game!”

Fonte has been heavily linked with joining compatriot Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Fonte’s current deal at Southampton expires in the summer of 2018 and it’s believed Jose Mourinho could attempt to bring the Euro 2016 winner to Old Trafford in the new year.

Mourinho is an avid admirer of his compatriot and could be tempted to make a move, with a bargain deal in January a genuine possibility.

Everton are also understood to be keeping close tabs on Fonte.

Olivier Giroud’s Agent Confirms He Won’t Be Quitting Arsenal In January

Featured Image

Olivier Giroud’s agent has moved to clear up speculation surrounding his client’s future at Arsenal.

France international Giroud has found himself confined to a bit-part role with Alexis Sanchez in sizzling form.

The former Montpellier striker was again on the bench for Tuesday’s Champions League win in Basel, coming on for the last 20 minutes of his team’s 4-1 victory.

Giroud has yet to start a Premier League game this season, but despite being linked to Juventus he intends to battle for his place at the Emirates Stadium for now.

However, Giroud — whose contract is up in 2018 — intends to battle for his place at the Emirates Stadium despite being linked with a move to Juventus.

“Olivier is very well at Arsenal,” Michael Manuello told Foot Mercato. “He will make his season here.

“Nothing is possible in January for Olivier. He has no plans to move during the winter transfer window.”

Giroud, speaking last month, said he had no concerns about his long-term future at the Emirates.

“I have no doubts over my Arsenal future,” he said.

“As with each year, there is competition for places at the big clubs. There are a lot of attackers with different styles of play.”

Aleix Vidal : I’ll Continue To Fight For My Barcelona Spot

Featured Image

Barcelona full-back Aleix Vidal says he has no intention of leaving the club.

The defender has barely figured at the Nou Camp since making the move from Sevilla last year, with reports claiming Barca will look to offload Vidal in January.

However the Spaniard, who made a surprise start in Barca’s 4-0 defeat of Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday, admits he has not thought about leaving the La Liga champions.

“The club can take the decisions that it wants with me, but I have no intention of going,” he told TV3.

“It would be foolish to think about leaving the best club in the world. I have a contract here and I think that I can succeed here.”

Luis Enrique has avoided questions about Vidal all season but gave a glowing assessment of the player’s performance.

“He was spectacular, he is in brilliant physical condition despite not competing for so long and he played really well, in attack, in defence, with the ball and without it,” he said.

Sport claims Vidal could now be handed a lifeline by Barca and given the chance to finish the season in Catalonia.

That is in contrast to previous reports which suggested his time at the Camp Nou was up, although the player himself managed to ignore what has been going on around him.

“If I’d have taken notice of everything that’s been said in the last three months, maybe I’d have committed suicide,” he said in further interview with beIN SPORTS. “It’s come at me from all sides, but with a cool head I’ve been able to overcome it. I would be stupid to want to leave this team.”

Drama As Armed Robbers Write Lagos Citizens Demanding Christmas Dues

Featured Image

With less than 18 days to Christmas, some suspected armed robbers have written some residents of Lagos state warning that they pay their season’s dues to them on a date not mentioned.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted a resident of Joseph Harrison Estate, Yaba, who got the letter from the bandits on Wednesday, as saying that they notified them of their impending attack to collect their “dues” for the festive season.

Another resident said the note, which was placed on his vehicle, was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday when he was about to wash his car.

The letter read: ”We are coming this week to collect our dues and to visit you tenants and landlords of Joseph Harrison Street in the week. If you like go and bring police or soldiers, we are coming to perform our duties.

”If you cooperate, we will not kill, but if you fail to cooperate, blood will flow.”

Checks by NAN at the estate on Tuesday revealed that sterner security measures have been put in place to protect lives and properties in the community.

Lending voice on the matter, Bolanle Akinyemi, Chairman, Community Development Association, said the estate had enjoyed some peace for a long while as it was protected by guards and the police from Sabo Police Post.

”We are also mindful of the slum that surrounds us and we have been conscious of suspected criminals,” he said, adding that ”No one has received such letter before, but there was a case in 2013 when a company in the estate was robbed.”

The chairman said they have reported the threat to Sabo Police Division and more guards have been engaged at the estate.

Concerned residents urged the commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni to deploy more officers to patrol the estate regularly.

Super Falcons Seize AWCON Trophy Over Unpaid Allowances

Featured Image

The Nigerian senior womens football team, the Super Falcons have seized the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) trophy they just won until the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pays them all outstanding bonuses and allowances.

According to reports, a meeting between members of the NFF and the Falcons ended with the players vowing to remain at their Agora hotel in Abuja until their money is paid.

The players claim that the allowances and match bonuses owed to each of them by the NFF since the team begun preparation for the just concluded African Women’s Cup of Nations amounts to $25,000 (about N11.25 million for each player).

A statement signed by NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, quoted the Federation’s General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, as saying the money for this was however not available at the moment.

The NFF statement in which it pledged to pay the allowances read:

The Federation is not happy about owing players and coaches. But it can only continue to seek their understanding and those of hoteliers and travel agents, as well as its management and staff until the situation improves.

There is no gainsaying in the fact that there is a severe economic challenge in the country now and all organisations, whether government or private, are feeling the pinch. But, it is not government’s doing.

We know we have financial commitment to the players and officials of Super Falcons, and we have not at any time stated otherwise. But the money is not readily available at the moment.

I appeal to them to understand the situation of the Federation, to understand the situation of the country at the present and exercise patience.

We will pay them all monies they are being owed as soon as we receive same from government, just as we paid the national under-17 team’s players and officials who won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile last year, after the tournament.

Just as we paid coach Samson Siasia’s wages as soon as we had the funds after the Olympics.

We still owe the Super Eagles for the matches against Zambia and Algeria, but the memos have gone to government and are being looked at.

But we must commend the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, who has been energetically pushing the cases of the various national teams.

We have sent the memo for the Women Africa Cup of Nations in October and it is being processed as we speak.

We are also working to get monies outstanding from former sponsors of the national teams, to complement what we are expecting from government.

In relation to all these, we are in the process of sorting out our TSA domiciliary accounts so that we can receive our due grants from FIFA and CAF, including the $80,000 prize money from the AWCON, once it is available.

Striker Francis Ordega lamented that they have done Nigeria honor by winning the trophy for the nation after a bruising battle with Cameroon, but Nigeria have failed to treat the team in the right manner. “If I had not played for Nigeria at full international level, trust me I would have played somewhere else,” She said. “The U-17 and U-20 teams have been blamed for the performances at their recent World Cups, but they were poorly prepared for these competitions.  If this continues, Nigeria will soon cease to be a force in Africa because there will be no future Super Falcons.”

While acknowledging the challenges that came with producing the critically acclaimed show, producer Joke Silva explained. “Even though we are setting a new record, in the global scheme of things, 24 shows isn’t really a big deal. We are challenging ourselves with this production and it is my ultimate goal that Heartbeat runs for another 20 years. “ she added.

For lead actor Femi Jacobs, his character in Heartbeat has given him the biggest emotional connection in his career so far. “While listening to the sheer magnificence that was put into this show, I suddenly started to cry backstage the other day.” he revealed. “This has been an incredibly humbling and uplifting experience for me working with this team”.

Writer and composer Tosin Otudeko revealed that the labour of love that was Heartbeat was conceptualized 12 years ago after which she pulled music producer Efosa Lawal in. She further revealed the meaning behind the show. “Heartbeat is basically a description of the time God gives us here on earth and how we must use it because it’s very limited. Once our heartbeat stops, that’s the end of our life as we know it.

Joke Silva

West Ham Preparing Loan Bid For Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini

Featured Image

West Ham are planning a January move for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Belgium international’s turbulent career at Old Trafford is understood to have given the Hammers confidence United would be open to selling.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is believed to be attracted to Fellaini’s versatility in defence and attack, and is considering a move for the 29-year-old once the transfer window re-opens.

After the Irons’ 5-1 home defeat by Arsenal at the weekend, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic suggested that his team’s ‘intensity’ had gone from last season.

‘The dedication to the cause is missing,’ he said. ‘The majority of the team, individually, have lost that intensity.

‘It is not ‘one of the reasons’. It is not ‘maybe’ that. It is a fact, 100 per cent, 500 per cent.’

The east Londoners are currently wallowing in 17th position in the Premier League table, while Mourinho’s men are in sixth.
