Swansea Manager Bob Bradley Hoping To Hang On To “Terrific” Gylfi Sigurdsson

Featured Image

Swansea manager Bob Bradley thinks clubs will be taking notice of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s performances ahead of the transfer window.

The playmaker is valued at £20million – according to the Daily Mail – but Bradley has no intention to sell his star man.

“Gylfi has been terrific for us,” Bradley said.

“I am sure there are many clubs that are taking notice. But certainly from our standpoint, we consider him important as we move forward.”

“We are confident he is going to still be a part of our team as we get into the second half of the season and beyond.

“For us to not only improve week to week, but have a little bit of a longer-term vision of how we can improve and how we can move ourselves forward, a player like Gylfi is a vital part of that vision.

“I believe that he is going to be with us. All you have to do is look around football, and sometimes crazy things happen, but there is no sense getting too deep into that conversation right now.

“On the inside of our football club, we are confident he is going to be part of our team moving forward. We all feel very good about what he is doing for us on the field.”

Swansea are likely to be active in the January window, and Bradley admitted that Tottenham’s England Under-21 international Tom Carroll – a former Liberty Stadium loan player – had been discussed.

“You get different names out on the table, and then there are discussions about which ones fit the best and which ones have the greatest chance to happen,” Bradley added. “Transfer windows aren’t always easy to plan out every detail. Things change quickly.

“The starting point is making sure we’ve got good names and we’ve done our research. A lot goes into it, and I think we are looking at some interesting possibilities, and now we keep our fingers crossed.

“Tom is a player that everyone here knows. He is certainly a good footballer, and he is a player that has been discussed. Tom is tactically sharp and he is a good passer, which are qualities that a team can use.”

Swansea remain in the Premier League’s relegation zone, but a 3-0 victory over Sunderland last weekend means they will travel to the Midlands targeting another success that would make it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Report : Laurent Koscielny To Sign New Arsenal Contract

Featured Image

Laurent Koscielny is ready to sign a new contract with Arsenal, according to reports in France.

The France international has become one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League over the last five years and was part of the France side that made the final of Euro 2016.

The 31-year-old, according to RMC, is set to commit his long-term future to the club

Koscielny’s current deal expires in the summer of 2019 and will reportedly be extended by a further year.

Arsenal will be hoping that the 31-year-old’s decision to sign on will be the first of many, as talks over new contracts for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil continue.

Chelsea Reportedly Sanction Sale Of Oscar To Chinese Club Shanghai SIPG

Featured Image

Shanghai SIPG are looking to tempt Oscar to China with a £60million bid in January.

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is now running the show in Shanghai and he’s shown an interest in the midfielder, according to The Guardian.

Chelsea have reportedly sanctioned the sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG after the Chinese Super League club, now managed by André Villas-Boas, formalised their long-standing interest and tabled an offer worth up to £60m for the Brazil midfielder.

It will be the second January in succession that Chelsea generate a substantial fee for one of their Brazilian contingent having sold Ramires to Jiangsu Suning in last season’s mid-winter window. That deal was worth in excess of £20m, with the player signing terms worth around £200,000-a-week.

This sale would grant Conte considerable leeway in the market as he seeks to reinforce his squad, with interest likely to be expressed in the Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk. That potential move is more likely to progress at the end of the season, with the Dutch defender’s club reluctant sellers. Regardless, the sale of Oscar will rule out any transfer for Cesc Fàbregas mid-season, with Conte having reiterated on Tuesday that the Spaniard remains “an important player”.

If completed, the move would top the club-record £50m the Blues received for David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 and Oscar would join fellow countrymen Hulk and Elkeson at the Chinese Super League club.

Barcelona Transfer News : Valencia Willing To Sell Joao Cancelo

Featured Image

Valencia are willing to cash in on Barcelona target Joao Cancelo next month, reports Sport.

Cancelo is one of the Mestalla club’s prized assets, but they would be willing to let him leave in the January transfer window if they receive a suitable offer.

Barca are long-term admirers of the Portuguese, although they would prefer to make a move for Shakhtar Donetsk veteran Darijo Srna next month on a free transfer.

Los Che initially valued Cancelo at €25m , however, that figure could be reduced.

They have also made midfielders Enzo Perez and Dani Parejo available for transfer too.

Barça have been interested in the full-back since the summer, but decided not to sign a right-back at that time. The club opted to stick with Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal, but the latter fell out of favour in September.

The relationship between the two clubs is good and this summer they did deals for Paco Alcacer and Andre Gomes. Barça, meanwhile, sent Martin Montoya and Munir El Haddadi in the other direction. Valencia have put 25 million euros on Cancelo’s head, but the may drop their price after this week’s meeting

In the coming days, Valencia will give a press conference to reveal what decisions have been made

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s flirtation with Coventry has been a brief one, with the former QPR manager having turned down the chance to manage the League One club, according to Sky sources.

Hasselbaink is heading off on a family holiday and plans to begin the search for his next job in management in earnest in the new year.

The Dutchman was sacked by the west Londoners last month, less than a year into the job, having won just 13 of his 47 matches in charge.

The Sky Blues approached the former Chelsea star about taking charge as Mark Venus looks to leave the post he has filled since Tony Mowbray resigned.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Set To Become New Coventry Manager

Interim boss Venus revealed after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Southend United that a new manager would be installed as soon as possible. Despite the search, the club could find it hard to attract a high-profile candidate to work in the current conditions.

But he came back to them after a week to say he’s not interested, expressing concerns about the long term plans at City.

The young boss cut his teeth very successfully at a lower level with Burton Albion, and is willing to drop down to the third tier to get his career going again.

Gael Clichy’s Manchester City Career Could Be Over As Italian Trio Show Interest

Napoli, Inter and Roma are interested in signing Man City left-back Gael Clichy in January, reports Calciomercato.com.

The Frenchman is reportedly set to leave the Etihad when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

The former Arsenal defender is out of contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to be offered a new deal

Also according to reports Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been given a budget of £20m to find a new left-back to replace Gael Clichy in the January transfer window.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Set To Become New Coventry Manager

Featured Image

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has agreed to hold talks with Coventry over their vacant manager’s job

Hasselbaink was sacked by QPR last month, less than a year into the job, having won just 13 of his 47 matches in charge.

Mark Venus has been carrying out the interim manager’s role at Coventry since Tony Mowbray left the job in September following a poor start to the season.

Coventry lie 21st in League One, having lost their last five league games.

On Thursday they welcome high-flying Sheffield United to the Ricoh Arena.

Earlier this year, Hasselbaink was filmed as part of a Daily Telegraph investigation alleging corruption in football, apparently negotiating a fee to travel to Singapore to speak to a fake Far East firm.

QPR stood by him, saying a lack of evidence from the newspaper ended their investigation.

And last month it was revealed he wanted to demolish his Surrey mansion and rebuild one with a trophy room — despite only ever winning ONE gong.

I’ve Not Received Salary Since 2010 – Governor Aregbesola

Featured Image

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has stated that he has not received any salary since he assumed office in 2010.

Aregbesola, who became governor of the state in November 2010, made this known during the launch of Oodua FM in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

He said: “When people complain about our financial state, I begin to wonder if they think I am spending people’s money. Some of you do not know that I have not received any salary since I became governor- of Osun state, why will I take that of others.”

Taking into account the pay package prepared by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and which became effective 2009, a state governor earns a monthly salary of N2.2 million.

The governor is also entitled to several other perks, including constituency allowance of N4.44 million, hardship allowance N1.11 million, leave allowance N222, 370.00, and newspaper allowance N333,555.75.

Osun State has been enmeshed in an abysmal labyrinth of a financial crisis for a long while, making it impossible for the state authorities to be able to pay salaries of workers.

Besides, the governor, who began his second term in office in November 2014, has not appointed commissioners.

The governor further explained that he refused to appoint commissioners because of the state’s poor financial condition.

“How will I have commissioners when we have no money?” he asked.

“In 2019 we can fight but right now I want the economy to grow. If I take the position that I want to destroy APC and destroy Nigeria, will there be any Nigeria for me to fix in 2019?

“So it’s a dumb move to try to destroy your president or somebody you hate and destroy your country in the process. I’ll fight Buhari in 2019 but today he is my president; I will support him.”

He continued:

“The Western press don’t like you. don’t be fooled. They see you as a product and sometimes you have value. They don’t see you as the destination for any major event, they will hit you hard,” he said.

“My greatest goal in life is to support the poor and I support them for two reasons. One, they are poor and they need help. Second is that if you don’t support them, they will kill you. The rich uses the poor to kill the rich. They kidnap, rape and maim you. We have a serious problem in this country.”

The business mogul called on Buhari to appoint a minister of common sense to solve the problems of Nigeria.

“A lot of people in government do dumb things. I’ve told successive presidents in this country to appoint a minister of common sense.

“The minister of common sense will not have a budget. All the minister would do is to think about Nigeria and find solutions to the problems of Nigeria without thinking about enriching himself.”

OpenCon 2016

Featured Image

The OpenCon 2016 organizing team in partnership with University of Lagos Engineering Society will be hosting an OpenCon event in Lagos (Julius Berger Hall, University of Lagos) on December 23, 2016.

OpenCon satellite events are local conference about Open issues that are held in partnership with a global annual OpenCon meeting in Washington DC. This event will bring together students, researchers, and early career professionals who are interested in learning and advocating for open access in education, research materials and research data. Social inclusion and economic empowerment can be achieved in a society where citizens have universal access to information and knowledge, this meeting was set up to take giant steps towards the adoption of open access policies in Nigeria.

The necessity of its adoption is that research and information has been a vehicle of national development for many advanced countries; contributing immensely to educational enhancement, science and technology, manpower development, promotion of national objectives, and increase in a nation’s international cooperation. These are the major sectors of national growth, therefore the target at Opencon is to encourage free (without a price tag) flow of information (research publications, educational materials etc.) that may be beneficial to the masses for self-development as well as advancement in research and technology across all walks of life. This is a fundamental principle for bridging the knowledge gaps between privileged and under-privileged communities. We therefore have a vision of reaching that potential where every student has access to quality basic education regardless of his/her financial strength and every person has the necessary information data to be the best at his/her chosen profession.

Access to research works in Nigeria has been a big issue, especially in recent times when technology advancement has redefined the system. The authors of this work face a major problem of getting visibility for their work while the students on the other hand encounter a problem of accessibility to these works due to high cost of journal subscription. This is why we need open access. The evolution of open access has proffered two major solutions to this problem, which are; Open access publishing and open access institutional repositories.
On a larger landscape, these problems can be addressed permanently by adoption of open access policies as a nation, which is why we as students are leading the change. Intellectual works should not be hidden behind paywalls, especially not the ones funded by government with taxpayers’ money. We therefore believe that adoption of open access policies can better be achieved through advocacy and support from individuals and policy makers.

OpenCon is not just a conference, it is a growing community of people all around the world who believe in a positive change through open access in our individual countries. We currently have over 300 registered attendees and 50 student volunteers for this conference. We already have lined up for the event, speakers like Funke Opeke (CEO, MainOne technologies), Lorraine Chuen (representative from Right to Research organization in Washington DC), Kayode Yussuf (tech lead at Creative Commons Nigeria), Godwin Benson (CEO, tuteria.com) and Adisa Bolutife (Open access advocate, University of Lagos ).

To attend this event, kindly visit the event website and make reservation through the link below.

AC Milan’s Takeover Negotiations “Hit Brick Wall”

Featured Image

A proposed takeover of Italian giants AC Milan is reportedly on the brink of falling through after the interested consortium failed to complete the acquisition ahead of the initial deadline.

The Rossoneri had hoped to see a deal go through on Monday, but Calciomercato claims that Chinese group Sino-Europe has asked for a further 24 hours to pay the additional deposit of around £84m.

It is claimed that the closing date has been postponed until March 3 and the sale of a majority stake in the Serie A club is now on the brink of collapse as a result.

A similar deposit had already been paid by Sino-Europe but it is reported that an additional sum of £84m is required as a fine for the delayed closing date, with the consortium now hoping to get the payment across at some stage on Tuesday.

Silvio Berlusconi, who has been at the San Siro helm for the past 30 years, is looking to offload ownership of Milan but has already seen two previous deals fall flat.
