NARD: Resident Doctors Threaten Strike From January 2

Featured Image

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has issued the government of Nigeria from now till January 2, 2017 to implement the National Health Act and other demands or face a nationwide strike.

The announcement is coming barely a day after oil workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), declared that they would begin a three-day nationwide warning strike by January 9, 2017.

Speaking to pressmen in Enugu after its emergency executive committee meeting in Abuja, the President, John Onyebueze, said the government should also implement the July 14 agreement reached by stakeholders at a meeting called by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Dogara.

‘We Are Hungry, MMM Is Becoming An Option’ – Aggrieved Doctors Tell FG

The president of NARD also called on its members to wear black ward coats or clinical gowns from January 2 to “mourn the death of the country’s health sector’’.

Onyebueze further added that the association would not be intimidated by the government’s no-work, no-pay order, saying that the policy seemed to be targeted at the association.

He said that the National Health Act was applauded when it was signed into law as the solution to the country’s health challenges, adding that its non-implementation was stunting the growth of the sector.

The NARD president expressed regret that the money spent by Nigerians on medical tourism was enough to correct the anomalies in the health sector and stem the tide of people seeking treatment abroad.

He threatened that the members of the association would storm the National Assembly and other relevant places to protest the treatment meted to them.

Mr. Onyebueze said that an ultimatum, which took effect from December 12, had been served on the relevant authorities.

In the 15-point observation and 15-point resolution, the association also called on the government to pay outstanding salaries to NARD members in the 72 institutions nationwide where its members worked.

Why Every Nigerian Must Know About MMM (1)

Why Every Nigerian Must Know About MMM (1), By Sunday Adelaja

At about the time our church, the Embassy of God, that used to be called the Word of Faith Church in the 1990s, was making its strides on the historical landscape of the former Soviet Union, out of nowhere, the name MMM hit the air waves.

This piece was written by Sunday Adelaja. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Ponzi Schemes and Pyramids – What Are They?

The terms ‘Ponzi schemes’ and ‘pyramids’ were new in the former Soviet Union. Ponzi schemes and pyramids are a long known fraudulent way of getting money from rather ignorant people, whereby operators pay returns to participants from fresh money coming in from newly recruited members.

A legitimate business, on the other hand, must be involved in the production of goods or services, from which profit is made. A profit, therefore, is made legitimate through the exchange of goods or services produced. When it comes to Ponzi schemes and pyramids however, they do not produce goods or services, so there is no process of production whatsoever, therefore there is no legitimate means of making a profit. Ponzi schemes and pyramids like MMM base their operations on the greed of men to make quick money without paying the price of hard work.

They entice new members and participants purely on the basis of the desire of these participants to make quick money. Sergey Mavrodi himself is quoted as saying, MMM is a business built on exploiting people’s vice of greed and lust for money. Thanks to my ability to understand and speak Russian language fluently, I personally listened to Mr. Mavrodi saying this in an interview. According to him, his philosophy is, as long as greed and lust for money is part of human nature, MMM will live. He says that there is nothing anybody can do in any country to stop his business, because people still want to have quick and easy money. Even today, on the MMM website, he gives a clear warning to all the participants that they could lose their money and yet people still go ahead and get involved. In Mr. Mavrodi’s mind, he is not cheating or robbing anyone, because according to him, he is sincere enough to tell them exactly what he is doing. So he says, I tell people what I am doing, they know they are involved in criminal acts, they know they are involved in pyramids, they know they are involved in fraud, so what am I doing wrong then? People are intentionally getting involved in something they know is evil and could go catastrophic at any time.

15 Million Mavrodi Causalities

In Russia, by the time his company was shut down, he had succeeded in attracting about 15 million people who put in and eventually lost their money. MMM is a known pyramid and Ponzi scheme network all over the world. More so, the founder of the organisation, Sergey Mavrodi has been convicted for running a Ponzi scheme and has served a jail term of four years. As a matter of fact, he is right now in hiding and operating MMM Nigeria and others while on the run from his own country, Russia. Hence when you go to the page of MMM Nigeria, you will see where there is a warning that this MMM is not allowed in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, because the founder is wanted in these countries.

Why Every Nigerian Must Fight Against Get Rich Quick Schemes

“We who have means and a voice must use them to help those who have neither.” ― Jennifer Donnelly

There are some points that we need to underline, specifically for the Nigerian public, that could help answer a lot of unanswered questions.

1. Sergey Mavrodi, being a mathematical genius and winner of several mathematical Olympiads while still a student in school, uses his knowledge and his superior intellect to manipulate the rather gullible populace;

2. Thanks to his intellectual prowess, it is not difficult for him to realise the power of mass media on the people. Sergey Mavrodi’s strength is in pouring a large percentage of the money he gets from people into advertisement and publicity;

3. The greatest attraction to MMM is the thirty percent promised returns on a monthly basis. This is the standard Ponzi and pyramid percentage in almost every such scheme throughout history. To my Nigerian brethren, I want to ask: What have you done for you to warrant a reward or profit of thirty percent a month, which could be up to three hundred and sixty percent in a year? Have you asked yourself where the money is coming from? Is it coming from heaven or dropping from the trees? Of course you know the answer – the money is not coming from production or sales, it is coming from your down line, the new people like you who are bringing in money;

4. If you are being paid from the money other people are bringing in, to a thinking mind that is enough reason for you to know that the whole project will collapse sooner than later. This is because whenever the input becomes less than the output, that means more people are collecting their thirty percent from the company than those who are bringing in money, and that marks the end of the system;

5. Right now, the operators of MMM in Nigeria and all over the world are busy pushing their guiders, managers and participants to keep on recruiting new members who would bring in fresh money. That which first appears to them as success also carries in itself the seed of its demise. This is because the more people bring in money, the larger the amount of money that is asked for as thirty percent returns. Sooner or later, you will have more people taking away from the system than are bringing into it, marking the end of the whole scheme;

6. Why is this bad as far as some people have made some money from the system? Let’s say the first one million people brought money in, for them to continuously be paid thirty percent, they need to bring in at least another three million people. So if the system collapses, even though one million people have been paid, three million people will be left hanging, looking for where to be paid from. The bigger such a pyramid grows, the more catastrophic it becomes eventually. When three million people lose their money, that equals more sorrow and pain, than if it is one million people who lost their money.

Unlike MMM, CBN May Approve Use Of Bitcoin For Transactions

In the wake of the current trend on controversial ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mudial Moneybox, MMM, there are strong indications that the Central Bank of Nigeria might legalise the use of Bitcoin for transactions.

On Friday, the Managing Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, revealed that the Apex Bank had set up a committee to look into the trending “digital currency, ‘bitcoin’.

He made the disclosure known at the ongoing 2016 Workshop for Financial Correspondents in Kaduna, with theme “Economic Recession and the Nigerians Banking Sector: Opportunities, Challenges and the way Forward”.

He said: “On our part, we have constituted a committee together with the central bank to have an in debt study of this phenomenal bitcoin.

“We will look at its advantages and disadvantages, what it means for the payment system and what it means for safety and security of customers.

“We will also look at what it means for money laundering, anti-corruption, crime and measurement of money /near money instrument for the economy.

“But we need a lot of education to do this and I’m calling on you (media) to educate yourselves about all of this so you can educate the public”.

Vanguard quoted Ibrahim as saying that ‘bitcoin’ included what is being called block-chain technology-based products in the market.

He said that a lot of Nigerians had already started patronising bitcoin, stressing that ‘it had started to creep in and nobody could stop it.’

He said that in Europe and the United States, it had gained currency and some of the leading banks in Europe had also adopted their own versions of bitcoins.

He continued: “Some of the central banks have also adopted it and are seriously doing everything possible to bring in the emergence of this invisible products.

“The owners do not need any central bank; they do not need any physical bank.

“If you are a subscriber, you only know yourselves and they give you a bit of the bitcoin and in some countries, you can convert it to cash.

“You can make payments with it because it has been recognised and one of the famous ex-chief executive of Barclays PLC, Antony Jenkins, have joined the group’s board of directors”.

On the issue of “MMM”, he said it had been pronounced that it was not recognised and was illegal.

“It is a very serious matter and all hands must be on deck to educate the public against things like this”.

It would be recalled, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the CBN had warned Nigerians against participating in any scheme, which they described as “Ponzi” scheme.

“Leave Us Alone” – MMM Founder Sergey Mavrodi Writes Nigerian Journalists

In the letter, which appeared on the dashboard of participants, Mavrodi, who expressed his disappointed about the way MMM is being painted in the media, said emphatically that “MMM will be back in January”, while pleading that the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop.

His open letter is coming after a one-month freezing of confirmed “Mavros” notice, which was sent to MMM Nigeria participants on Dec 12, 2016.

Mavrodi went ahead to describe articles from Nigerians journalists and bloggers as “provocative and worthless.”

Read the letter below:

Dear journalists, ‘analysts’ and all kinds of ‘experts!’ Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity.

Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose? “In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and ‘analyses’ (I said ‘worthless’ because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: ‘MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..’ etc.

Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all? So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that.

It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.

Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!

Female Suicide Bombers Killed In Maiduguri Checkpoint

Two female suicide bombers suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect were on Sunday night killed as their IED went off as they attempted to invade Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, officials said.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 10.30p.m., near Muna Garage, one of the most attacked motor parks in recent times.

John Obi Mikel In Advanced Talks With French Ligue 1 Club Marseille – Gernot Rohr

Featured Image

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is in ‘advanced’ talks with Marseille to go to the club on a free transfer, according to his national manager Gernot Rohr.

“I saw Obi Mikel in London. He is in advanced discussions with Olympique Marseille. He will leave Chelsea for free, this is a serious option,” the Nigeria head coachtold French radio station Europe 1.

The 29-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season, and he is yet to feature under new manager Antonio Conte.

Rohr claims Conte is punishing Mikel for helping to inspire Nigeria to third place in the Rio Olympics last summer.

But Mikel — Chelsea’s second longest-serving player behind captain John Terry — has no regrets about going and is ready to quit Stamford Bridge in January.

He said: “I have never been a guy who makes excuses in life and never shy away from responsibilities.

“Yes, maybe people will say the new manager was upset I left and went to the Olympics, that I didn’t have a pre-season with the team.

“But I don’t want to use those excuses. I have to keep training hard and make sure I change the manager’s mind. If not, then we’ll see what happens in January.

“But, no, I would never swap my Olympic medal for a place back in the Chelsea team.

“I have not one single regret in going to the Olympics. And I will not trade my medal for anything.”
