“I’ll Sign A Contract Extension” – Mourinho

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho must be enjoying life at Old Trafford, as the Portuguese manager has revealed he will sign a new contract at the club, despite admitting the money in China is attractive.

The former Chelsea manager replaced Louis van Gaal at the club and despite a mixed start to the season, they sit sixth on the log.

Mourinho admits to loving life at United and says he is too young to consider leaving Old Trafford for China.

Asked if the club have offered him a new contract, Mourinho said: “They didn’t! And I’m not expecting them to do that, because they gave me a three-year contract.

“They are being super supportive with me, and always gave me the feeling that three years is not the time I am going to stay here, I always had the feeling that I am going to stay for more time.

“They know that I’m loving it, at every level, I’m loving my job at Manchester United, and they know that if one day they bring the contract, I will sign it, I don’t even need my advisers, I’ll sign because I am loving it.

“China money is attractive for everyone, but I love my football at the highest level more. Too young, 53, too young, too many years of football to go to a place like China.

“I want to stay in the most difficult place to win, so I’m in the right place.”

Marchisio To Teammates: Milan Will Be Looking For Revenge

Featured Image

Juventus midfielder, Claudio Marchisio believes AC Milan will be out for revenge when they play in the Supercoppa Italianna on Friday.

Juventus beat Milan 1-0 in last season’s Coppa Italia final, but the Rossoneri look rejuvenated under Montella.

And Marchisio has warned Juventus, who lost 1-0 to Milan back in October of a revenge mission their rivals are set on.

“It is a one-off fixture against a team that has made a very good start to the season so we will need to be at our very best to come out on top,” Marchisio told reporters.

“Milan will be dangerous for two reasons: firstly, they will be hungry for revenge after the Coppa Italia final and secondly, they are coming here on the back of a very positive first half of the season.

“They were not in the title race last time out but they have begun in the best way possible so far mixing experience with the desire of their younger players to good effect.

We are expecting a difficult 90 minutes; they will be here to win and seize the trophy from our grasp.

“What sets this group apart is our ability to make the most of whatever chance comes our way and take any challenge we face head on. We want to end 2016 in perfect fashion with a bit of silverware.”

Vanguard Newspaper quoted the Finance Minister as saying that the policy would soon be supported by a bill already receiving due attention at the National Assembly.

Adeosun further added that adequate measures are being taken to protect and safe guard the lives and identities of whistle blowers.

She said: “If you whistle-blow in public-spirit and in good faith, you will be protected.

“If you feel that you have been treated badly because of your report, you can file a formal complaint.

“If you have suffered harassment, intimidation or victimisation for sharing your concerns, restitution will be made for any loss suffered.”

Noble: Payet Leaving Will Be A Huge Blow

Featured Image

West Ham captain Mark Noble is sure Dimitri Payet will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The French midfielder has been linked with an exit, especially due to West Ham struggling to regain their form from last season, sitting 13th and five points from relegation.

And even though Payet has fuelled speculation of an exit, Noble is confident he’ll see out the rest of the season.

“You never know what happens in football. I’m pretty sure Dimi doesn’t want to come out and say too much,” Noble told Sky Sports News.

“I would be shocked to see him go before the end of January. I’m pretty sure it would have to be a healthy bid to get him away from us.

“Can we afford to lose him? No, not really, because he is one of the best players in the world at the minute.”

Payet – who has a contract at London Stadium until 2021 – has scored three times in 18 appearances in all competitions this season with seven assists, having contributed 15 goals and 17 assists in 2015-16.

The Pressure At PSG Is Not Getting To Emery

Featured Image

PSG are not in the best of forms and Unai Emery will not let his critics distract, maintaining a bold front.

The current Ligue 1 champions sit third on the table, seven points behind Nice and three points behind Monaco. They play Lorient later today.

But former Sevilla boss Emery has vowed to maintain a positive outlook and prove his doubters wrong with an upturn in fortunes on the pitch.

“I have the football experience,” he told a news conference. “I have experienced great moments and others like I am now.

“I remain positive and I do not think about my situation but about the team, the players and the supporters. My responsibility is to work.

“All of the people with me are in the same spirit. The players train well and for me it is a good sign of the behaviour of the team.

“We need to win. If we win against Lorient, we will see everything differently.”

Asked to explain the reasons behind his team’s struggles, Emery added: “There is a bit of everything. But since the international break when we were on a good run, [Javier] Pastore then [Adrien] Rabiot were injured.

“Thiago Motta had to play many matches and was forced to stop and [Marco] Verratti was injured. That does a lot of things in midfield. This is one of the reasons why the team has lost strength.

“We need to prepare other players. I wait for all of the players to come back after Christmas and that will fix some problems.”

Probed over whether he had spoken to club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Emery talked around the subject.

“The president is close to the team,” he commented. “He has been with us all these months.

“He comes to training, has been present at all games. He wants us to continue the work we have started.”

Julian Green has signed a three-year deal with Stuttgart from Bayern Munich, the club has confirmed.

The United States international made only two DFB Pokal appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, and will join the 2.Bundesliga side for an undisclosed fee.

“I came to FC Bayern into their Under-15s and I dreamed of becoming a professional. And I did that,” Green, who will wear the number 37 shirt, told Stuttgart’s official website.

“Over the past three years, I’ve built up a lot of experience. That was good and I’m grateful for that.

“I’ve seen all their games over the last month and I think I’m in good hands with VFB, and I can set new goals for myself.

“This is a great club. I’m looking forward to the challenge, the new city and my new team-mates. And, above all, I want to support the team in the second half of the season.”

Stuttgart official Jan Schindelmeiser added: “Julian can be used in several positions in the attacking area. He had some top coaching at FC Bayern.

“We see further potential in his development. He can revive our play with his speed.”

Green was on loan at Hamburg for much of the 2014-15 season, athough he spent the majority of that time working with the B team.

The 21-year-old, who will officially join next month, could make his debut in the league match away to St. Pauli on January 29.

NYSC As A Metaphor For Nigeria

Featured Image

NYSC As A Metaphor For NigeriaFeyi Fawehinmi

The NYSC programme has been in the news lately following the death of three ‘Corpers’ across the nation. In most countries, tragic events like these would lead to a bout of soul-searching followed by reforms to ensure such deaths do not happen again. But Nigeria is not most countries.

I dislike the NYSC programme and think it is a waste of time and resources. But my reasons for not liking it are slightly different – I think it is an unfair way for government to spend money.

This piece was written by Feyi Fawehinmi and first published on The Guardian. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Let’s start from the beginning. Depending on who you ask, there are between 8 and 10 million Nigerian children between the ages of 7 and 14 who are not in school at all. Government doesn’t spend any money on these kids as they are not even in the system. To be fair, primary education is the responsibility of state governments but if these kids don’t get into primary school at all, they cannot get into secondary school where the federal government starts spending money on them.

The federal government takes over the funding of education from the secondary school level. Taking the 2016 budget as our guide, the amount spent on all the secondary schools in Nigeria by the federal government comes to just under N40bn. The budget lists 104 secondary schools that share this money. But between primary and secondary school, an estimated 7.2 million children, aged between 15 and 19 had dropped off, based on 2010 figures. The real problem appears to be crossing from JSS to SSS. In some states, only 16% of children cross this hurdle.

You can see the numbers are adding up. Millions don’t enter the pipeline at all and millions more drop off along the way. The whole thing looks like some kind of hunger games or survival of the fittest. Based on 2013 figures, only 1.7 million candidates registered to write JAMB for admission into university. They were competing for just 400,000 places which meant that another 1.3 million students had to drop off. And how much does the federal government then spend on the ‘lucky’ few hundred thousand who make it into higher institutions? In the 2016 budget, a total of 90 higher institutions shared an incredible N325bn – 68% of the entire education budget.

Corps Members’ Death: Senate Calls For Overhaul Of NYSC Scheme

So to recap. If you are lucky enough to even get into primary school at all, you have tried. Government will spend some coins on you. If you are persistent enough to get through to secondary school, you get more money spent on you by government. If you then make it to university at all, government then opens the funding tap to educate you. And then, if you are able to make it out of higher institutions, you then qualify for even more spending via the NYSC programme. By university, the damage is usually done – if you had not been properly educated through primary and secondary school, you’re unlikely to make it up in university.

In 2016, the federal government budgeted N67bn to be spent on something like 260,000 youth corpers taking part in the NYSC programme.

To make matters worse, the N19,000 the government pays ‘Corpers’ monthly is not means tested. Whether you are rich or poor, you get paid the money. Whether you want it or not, you get it. Unsurprisingly, the programme is now struggling given the crisis in the government’s finances. Why do we do things this way?

It is bad enough that government is pouring the vast majority of the resources on the end of the education process after millions of children and students have fallen away. It then adds insult to injury by spending twice what it spends on secondary education on paying and camping corpers for one year. Does it not matter that we are failing millions of children who don’t even enter into school at all and those who fall by the wayside? Money is not infinite which means that money spent in one place cannot be spent in another place. Every naira spent is a trade off of one need for another. And the way we spend money on education says a lot about the kind of country we are.

How Two ‘First Class’ Corps Members Died At NYSC Camps 48 Hours Apart

A lot of people do not want to take part in the NYSC programme. That means there are people who will gladly give up the money government is paying them just to get out of the programme. Yet, government insists on paying them. There are some who don’t mind doing it, this is fine. Surely the solution to this is to make the programme voluntary so that the government is only paying those who really want to be there (and saving money in the process)?

The NYSC programme is a metaphor for Nigeria. Even when things are obviously in need of change, it is as if they cannot be changed. Edmund Burke once said that a state without the means of some change is without the means of its conservation. If you are unable to change things even when it is obvious that they need to be changed, then you are condemned to slow decay.

Is Nigeria capable of self-correction? The National Assembly is now talking about NYSC as a result of the recent deaths. But what happens when things go quiet again? Will we just continue with the programme as if it’s ok and does not need reform? Even saving half of the cost of NYSC and pouring it into secondary education will do wonders.

A country that spends all its money on the few who are able to make it to the end of a brutal process while ignoring the millions who fall by the wayside is a country without the means of its conservation.

This piece was written by Feyi Fawehinmi and first published on The Guardian. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Unpaid Salaries: FRSC Officials Threaten To Start Collecting Bribes “Like Policemen”

Featured Image

With barely few days to Christmas, some aggrieved officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have threatened to obtain bribes the same way policemen extort money from motorists if they are not paid their November salaries and allowances before the Yuletide.

The officials, who were apparently vexed, told The Punch that the Nigerian Government had refused to offer any explanation for the non-payment of their salaries and allowances.

The aggrieved officials further decried that it was unfortunate, even as the authorities had directed them to work during the holidays as part of the ‘ember months’ campaign.

READ ALSO: 4,005 Deaths Recorded On Nigerian Roads In 2016 – FRSC

One of the official, simply identified as Patrick, said the government had no excuse for withholding salaries since the FRSC is a revenue-generating agency.

He said, “The government is being very unfair to us. Christmas is next Sunday and many of us who are male officials have been asked to remain on the roads to ensure that the roads are safe.

“How can the agency ask me to spend Christmas on the road and at the same time deprive me of my salary?

“They should not turn corps officials into policemen because that is what will happen if we are not paid.”

A female FRSC official, who is a single mother, said the non-payment of salaries had affected her, as she had not been able to do any shopping for her children.

She said, “Everyone knows that the prices of goods increase during Christmas and that is why most people try to do their shopping early December. It is bad enough that we are witnessing a recession but the government should not worsen our condition by withholding our pay.

“What will I feed my children this Christmas? Where will I get the money to take them out to have fun? They cannot tell us not to extort money from motorists and at the same time deprive us of our salaries. It is unfair.”

Another official, Abiodun by name, said that in five months, corps officials had been receiving salaries on the seventh day of the following month.

Abiodun said, “There have always been bad eggs in the agency, but the fact that most officials are well paid sort of reduced the number of bad eggs.

“However, now that salaries are not being paid, the government seems to be giving officials the ‘green light’ to indulge in corrupt practices. You cannot flog me and ask me not to cry.”

However, in reaction, the FRSC’s Head of Media Relations and Strategy, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, said salary issue was not the fault of the agency but the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, the platform through which Federal Government officials were paid.

He said, “The salary issue is from IPPIS and not from us; so, I suggest you get in touch with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

“The salary issue is being sorted out and anyone who takes bribes knows the implications. Anyone who is caught collecting bribes will be dismissed.”

Tuchel: We Lost The Plot

Featured Image

Dortmund endured a frustrating 1-1 draw against Augsburg and Thomas Tuchel felt his side lost the plot.

Ousmane Dembele scored the equaliser for Dortmund early in the second half to ensure BVB finished 2016 without losing at home.

Dortmund are nine points behind the top spot, but a win between Bayern and Leipzig will see the gap widen to 12.

“We started very well and then completely lost the plot,” he told reporters. “Why I do not know.

“We made an incredible number of errors. We are regularly punished and that makes things difficult at times. We need consistency in the competitions.

“I think that the game really reflects the season so far. In almost every game there are phases where we miss things.

“We made some very simple mistakes, bad passes and simple fouls. After we secured the ball, we switched very badly from defence to offence.

“In these 30 minutes of the first half Augsburg scored a goal. The frequency is incredible. I think it’s the seventh game in a row where we had to come back from one goal down.”

Robben: Bayern Aiming To Be Autumn Champions With Win Over Leipzig

Featured Image

Arjen Robben is pushing for victory against RB Leipzig, as he wants Bayern Munich to end the year at the top of the table.

The Bavarian outfit welcome the newcomers to the Allianz Arena, who sit second behind Bayern on goal difference. A loss will see Leipzig go top of the table.

And Robben asserts Bayern are keen to beat Leipzig, who have taken the Bundesliga by storm this year.

“We are looking forward to this game,” the winger told Goal. “We want to win the match and complete the first half of the season in a good way to enter the holidays as autumn champions.”

“It’s very, very difficult to predict [if Leipzig can reach the Champions League],” the Dutchman added. “We have to bide our time.

“Until now they have done very well. Nobody expected that – especially as a promoted team. That’s a huge compliment, especially for the coach.

“You already see his influence [on the team]. Last season he did well with Ingolstadt and now you see his influence again. That’s nice to see.”

The Bundesliga will pause for a month-long winter break following the 16th round of matches this midweek.

Toure Wants City To Get Bigger Than United

Featured Image

Yaya Toure has a mission at Manchester City and it is to put Manchester United in the shadows of his club.

The midfielder looked to be out of the first team picture at City, following a public spat with Pep Guardiola, involving his agent Dimitri Seluk.

After a belated apology, the 33-year-old has returned to the lineup and has been instrumental for the club.

Toure is out of contract at the club he joined in 2010 at the end of the current campaign but maintains he has unfinished business having regained form and match fitness – most notably making a dent in United’s record mark of 20 English titles.

“I came to this club to make history,” he told reporters. “I want this club to change, I want this club to be bigger than United. I know it’s going to be a lot of work, but that’s my dream.

“I have been lucky to play at big clubs – Barcelona, Olympiacos. Those teams were always used to being champions. But City, it was something different, something changing and I am happy now. Every single year we are always involved in the title race.

“Even though we lost, and something changed or something was bad, the following year the owner put more money into the club and got better players to make it better. That’s what I like, the challenge, I love a challenge.

“I want to make something very important. I already won two Premier League titles and I want more than that, another new story.”

“I feel 20 now,” he added. “My role is to keep the team moving, win the ball, organise, talk to the players, I have the experience. We are a team that wants to play football but sometimes you have to tell the players to be careful, especially on the counter-attack.

“I belong on the field. But even if I’m not playing I want to be at the stadium to watch. I always want to progress. I will be fully prepared for any situation. I will give 100 per cent for this club, for these fans. These fans are the only ones who always sing my name, who give happiness to my family.

“If I can do more for them I will do it. I always fight to make the team one step better.”

NNPC Targets Full-Scale Operation Of Nigeria’s Refineries In 2017

Featured Image

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has stated that in 2017, it would embark on a comprehensive rehabilitation of the nation’s three refineries located in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna to achieve optimal capacity utilization.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Annual General Meetings of the three refineries in Abuja, the Chief Operating Officer, COO, Refineries of the NNPC, Mr. Anibor Kragha, stated that the Corporation was determined to move away from the approach of quick fixes and undertake a comprehensive revamp of the plants.

He said, “The plan for next year is to get the comprehensive rehabilitation programme done.

“The situation is like having three cars in your garage that have not been maintained for 15 to 20 years while you expect optimal performance from them.

“Changing one fuel pump here, one compressor there is not helpful. What we are doing now is to step back and take a holistic approach and do a full rehabilitation of all the refineries.”

Kragha further added that once the exercise was achieved, the refineries in due course would draw up a chart for routine Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) Programme as and when due.

‘’We are very close; we have done tests with some of the key marketers. We have achieved all the parameters, we just want to be 110 percent certain,’’ he said.

On the earlier plan to have other refineries co-located with the existing refineries, Kragha explained that though the plan was still on course, none of the projected co-location refineries would come on stream in 2017 based on existing timeline for assemblage of the plants.

Nigerian Army Reacts To Viral Video Of Soldiers Begging “Buhari” For Food, Water

Featured Image

The Nigerian Army has reacted to an undated video clip which went viral on social media of soldiers alleging lack of food and water.

The footage which showed the plight of Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram in the North East went viral on the Internet, sparking monumental outrage.

In the video, which was uploaded on YouTube on Tuesday, several soldiers surrounded three of their colleagues who they alleged fainted due to lack of food and water.

One of the soldiers explained that over 70 soldiers fainted due to lack of water, adding that they had spent up to three days at their location without water and food.

Another soldier begged that their message should be passed to President Muhammadu Buhari, suggesting it would be wrong for them to perish for lack of water after surviving Boko Haram.

However, in reaction, the army said that a Board of Inquiry actually showed that, as at the time of the incident, the unit’s water tanker still contained water, but a soldier mischievously concealed it.

A statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, on the matter, read:

“We wish to state that the video clip was shot more than six months ago by some mischievous and disgruntled elements when 29 Task Force Brigade captured Alagarno Forest and environs in Borno State.

“It is disheartening that some mischievous elements have decided to circulate it now, creating the false impression that it is a recent occurrence.

“We wish to state further that the matter was conclusively investigated at the time, several months ago. The Board of Inquiry actually showed that, as at the time of the incident, the unit’s water tanker still contained water, but a soldier mischievously concealed it. That soldier was charged and punished accordingly.

“In addition to the unit’s water tanker, a borehole was subsequently drilled at the location and it is still serving both the military and adjoining communities.

“We wish to restate with utmost concern the continued commitment of the Nigerian Army to the total welfare of all its personnel.”

CBN On The Verge To Eliminate Forex Black Market

Featured Image

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CNB) is on the verge to eliminate the foreign exchange black market in Africa’s biggest economy, the country’s finance minister said on Tuesday.

The naira is trading on the parallel market some 40 per cent lower than the official rate against the dollar as low global crude prices have dried up vital oil revenues and pushed Africa’s largest economy into recession.

As a result of this, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said the CBN has been mandated to scrap the damaging market.

The Apex Bank “has been directed to do this and CBN has promised to do something by putting a system in place to eliminate the black market because it’s damaging the economy”, she told a conference.

Lending his voice on the development, the CBN spokesman, Isaac Okorafor, said the central bank was working towards “ensuring that the forex market operates as effectively as we would envisage”.

He said the aim was to “ensure there is no black market” but did not give details of how this would be achieved.

The CBN scrapped a 16-month-old peg of 197 naira to the dollar in June, but it continues to trade in the official market, so that the naira remains far stronger against the dollar there than on the parallel market.

The government has blamed that black market for damaging the already shaky economy.

“The CBN is working on the elimination of arbitrage,” Adeosun told Reuters by text message, without saying how this would be done.
