Train Carrying Soldiers, Civilians Collides With Trailer In Kaduna

Featured Image

A Lagos bound train from Kano collided with a trailer at railway crossing in Kawo, Kaduna, and divided the trailer into two, official said on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

The Sector Commander of The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Mr Francis Udoma, who confirmed the incidence, said that the incident occurred at 3 am adding however, that no life was lost.

Udoma explained that the train, carrying Nigerian soldiers and civilians, crashed into the trailer, belonging to W.A Group of Companies, carrying sugarcane.

He said the accident occurred when the driver of the trailer insisted on crossing the rail line even when the train was blaring.

As a result of the incident, there was traffic jam that lasted for six hours.

Udoma said motorist coming from Kano and other northern states, as well as those coming from the southern and the eastern part of the country were all stranded at the railway crossing.

“We deployed our men, including myself, when we received the call, and arrived there to manage the traffic jam for hours.

“We were there until 9 a.m. before we were able to open the road for motorists to pass through’’, Udoma said.

He blamed the accident on the impatience of the trailer driver, whom he said might be suffering from hearing problem.

“It could be that the driver had problem hearing, because train normally will blare, but this driver, even with the horn decided to cross. “This is abnormal. Nobody with normal hearing sense would take such a risk’’, he said.

Dogs Disappear From Ekiti Streets As Residents Clamour For Dog Meat

Featured Image

Dogs have disappeared from the streets in Ekiti State following rise in the consumption of dog meat by residents.

Checks by the News Agency of Nigeria showed that more people have increasingly turned to dog meat for their nutrition in spite of the taboo hitherto associated with the consumption of dog meat in the community.

In Ado-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti, Ise-Ekiti, Emure- Ekiti, Ikole-Ekiti and Otun Ekiti new dog slaughter slabs have sprung up as the residents devour the meat in homes, restaurants and beer parlours.

A resident said no fewer than 20 of such slaughter slabs exist in Ado Ekiti alone.

“A good number of beer parlours and relaxation centres now make pepper soup and suya from dog meat.

“Because of the high rate of consumption of dog meat, it is now difficult to see dogs on the street and their cost have risen astronomically,” the resident, who craved anonymity said.

NAN reports that three-months-old dogs previously sold for as low as N500, now attract up to N3,000, while adult go for between N6,000 and N15,000 depending on the size.

Mr Debo Olusola, who trades in dog meat, said he makes an average of N10,000 daily from sale of dog meat suya.

A veterinary doctor, Kunle Adeyemi warned against excessive consumption of the meat, saying it was “risky and injurious to health” due to rabies content in the flesh and blood of dogs.

Rivers Doctors Threaten To Down Tools In January 2017

Featured Image

Medical doctors in Rivers State have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from January 9, 2017 should the state government fail to attend to their demands.

Some of the demands are the issue of poor health facilities and inadequate manpower.

Speaking under the aegis of the National Association of Government Medical and Dental Practitioners in Rivers State, the doctors vowed to down tools if their demands were not addressed.

According to the Chairman of the association, Dr. Sofiri Peterside, the proposed strike was the last option should the current administration in the state fail to look into the challenges affecting the operation of the medical service in the state.

Recalling that his group had already given a 21-day ultimatum that would elapsed on January 9, 2017, Peterside warned that medical practitioners in the state would not fail to embark on strike should the government refuse to agree to their demands.

The chairman also noted that some medical practitioners’ gratuities and pensions were paltry because they were not promoted while they were in service, adding that government should implement the new salary structure.

He said: “For over six years now, starting from the last administration, we have been complaining and writing to government on the same issues.

“We are saying that government should expedite action on the implementation of the new salary structure. That government should improve on the poor condition of the health centres.

“You need to visit the health centre and see what look like an empty hall. Government must employ more nurses and doctors. You can imagine that government has only three consultants and six surgeons.

“Many of medical practitioners retired without being promoted. We want these issues to be look into. It is not only when we take to the streets that government should listen to us. That is why we are giving them this period to take decision or face strike action.”

Boko Haram: Nigerian Army Recovers Shekau’s Quran, Flag From Sambisa Forest

This revelation was brought to light by the theatre commander of operation Lafiya Dole, Lucky Irabor, a major general while updating journalists on ‘Operation Rescue Final’ in Maiduguri.

He said: “We believe that the Holy Book and the flag were abandoned by Abubakar Shekau while he escaped.”

“The book will be taken to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, for onward presentation to Mr President.

“We have also made a lot of arrests. Our troops in Damboa arrested about 15 Boko Haram members. We also arrested one Musa from Potiskum on Christmas Day, which was December 25.”

“On December 26, our troops also intercepted two Boko Haram suspects in Maiduguri. We, therefore, warn residents of the state to be wary of people coming to hide in and around their houses.”

“We are also warning residents to report any suspected Boko Haram members hiding in their houses to the relevant security agencies and any failure to do that would tantamount to supporting and sympathising with the sect’s activities.”

It was earlier revealed that some CJFF members who took part in the offensive that resulted in the capture of Camp Zero located in the heart of Sambisa Forest brought down the flag of Shekau.

Iniesta Wants To Hang His Boots At Barcelona

Featured Image

Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta has the dream of retiring at the club and hopes to remain connected with the club after he ends his career.

The 32-year-old spaniard has spent over two decades at Camp Nou. He joined La Masia as a youngster and made his first team debut at the age of 18 in 2002.

Iniesta has had a successful career at the club, winning eight liga titles, four copa del reys, four ucl trophies and three club world cups.

Injury has restricted the veteran midfielder to just 13 appearances this season, but is a regular starter when fit.

And Iniesta is not preparing to leave anytime soon, as he hopes to end his career where he started it – at Camp Nou.

“Let’s hope so!” he told the club’s official website when asked if he will retire in Catalunya. “That’s my dream and has been for a long time.

“When you start and everything is new, you never know what is going to happen but as things develop and become more important, you always have the hope of retiring here.

“I had the goal of being a success at Barca when I arrived and until I did that I was not satisfied.

“There were difficult moments when I was happy to play 10 minutes here rather than more time in another team, and that has allowed me to achieve other things.

“I don’t think about life after retirement, but I know that one way or another I will continue to be linked to football.

“Of course [I want to stay linked to Barca], but the future will decide. I am not in position to say I want to be one thing or another at the moment, but I would like to remain at Barca, let’s hope! However, at the moment that is something in the distance.”

Buhari, Call Off Customs’ Siege On Igbo Traders

Featured Image

Buhari, Call Off Customs’ Siege On Igbo Traders, By Okey Ndibe

A few days ago, a friend sent me a video of a choir made up of members of Nigeria’s security agencies singing “Feliz Navidad,” a popular Christmas song. The rendition was entirely inspiring, a thrilling combination of rousing singing, dancing and festive atmosphere. I was moved by the sheer cheeriness of the service singers, infected by their sunniness of spirit. The high professional quality of the performers was complemented by the outstanding videography.

This piece was written by Okey Ndibe. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

In between the Christmas lyrics, members of Nigeria’s respective service arms took turns pitching messages. A female officer informed us that the police were our friends, that its officers serve and protect with integrity, and that they make Nigeria secure. Another officer, also female, touted the Nigerian Prisons Service as reformers, keeping society crime-free. A member of the Civil Defense Corps spoke about defending the defenseless.

It was, quite simply, a soaring performance, a tour de force, indeed the best rendition of “Feliz Navidad” I have ever seen or heard—and I have listened to quite a few. I couldn’t help replaying the video several times. Each time, I found myself riveted, beguiled, awe-struck, a dupe for the wholly upbeat service messages organically interjected into one of Christmas’s most captivating anthems.

Again and again, I surrendered myself to be transported by the winsome performance. Yet, I emerged from each session with an afterglow of sadness, brought rudely down to earth by the shattering awareness that there was little concordance between the reality of life in Nigeria and the mesmerising vista projected by the video. The video vended a beatific vision to me; yet I knew that the reality of life in Nigeria was, for the most part and for the majority of Nigerians, awful if not hellish. The video was selling me a dummy, attempting to mask the sordidness of everyday life in my country, its enchanting performance no more than an effort to narcotise its audience, to rig reality.

That dominant sense of a discrepancy between performance and reality was reinforced for me in two recent conversations. In one, a writer friend who is an academic in Canada recounted his near-brush with death. Some assailants had cornered this guy and shot him on the leg. Terribly wounded, bleeding, he had limped away from his car to seek help. In some ways, his nightmare worsened once he found the police.

First, the police had no ambulance to drive him to a hospital. They brought him back to his car, which the armed gangsters had abandoned because it was demobilised, and got him to reactivate it. Then, instead of rushing him to the hospital, they took him to their station because Nigeria has this weird practice that hospitals should not treat anybody with a gunshot wound in the absence of a police report. Meanwhile, as the police busied themselves with observing the bizarre bureaucratic protocols of generating a report, the bleeding victim slipped in and out of consciousness, gripped by a sense of his imminent death.

No, he didn’t die in the end, in part because one of the police officers finally recognised him as a senior editor at a major newspaper. Once his quasi-privileged status was established, he was able to muster just enough strength to convince the officers—against what they said was policy—to take him to a private hospital where a relative of his was a medical chief. The drive there was harrowing, marked by a traffic gridlock that slowed the car, leaving the hapless editor bleeding profusely, racked by hideous pain.

The other conversation, with a friend who recently traveled by road from Lagos to Awka, the capital of Anambra State, concerned a broader problem. He spoke about the many checkpoints mounted by the police, customs and other security agencies. He described the trip as an excruciating experience. Each checkpoint taxed travelers’ nerves. The service officers harangued, harassed and cajoled travelers to “drop something,” Nigerian slang for offering a bribe.

He shared the impression that Nigerian customs and police seemed to target businessmen and women from the country’s South-East. This friend, who travels by road to different parts of Nigeria, felt there was an unwholesome intent behind the incessant checkpoints. He described them as part of a vast extortion scheme authorised by the Nigerian state, a veritable siege on (especially) Igbo-owned businesses.

That sentiment has increasing currency. A headline in the December 14, 2016 edition of the Punch newspaper told the story: “Customs, police extorting us – South East traders”. According to the paper, “The South-East Zone of the Amalgamated Market Traders Association has raised the alarm over the worsening cases of extortion by security officials on highways in the country.” The association’s president, Okwudili Ezenwankwo, “accused men of the Nigeria Customs Service and the police of barricading highways to extort motorists and traders.” The paper quoted him as stating that “the presence of customs men and police officers mounting road blocks to extort motorists and traders had made a mess of the anti-corruption campaign of the Federal Government.”

Mr. Ezenwankwo “wondered why containers, belonging to traders, should be stopped and searched at various points from Lagos and to the South-East by customs men and the police after such containers had been cleared at the ports,” and demanded that the Federal Government move the officers in order to end their extortionist game. He argued, “It is only in Nigeria you see customs men on the roads. If they have anything to do with searching our goods, it should be at the ports or borders.”

The trader made a pertinent point: that President Muhammadu Buhari’s so-called anti-corruption campaign “would only have meaning when the government addressed low-level corruption by security officials.” He added: “Forcing hard working Nigerians to part with their hard-earned money every day by policemen, customs men and other security agents should not be happening in the current dispensation.”

It should not happen in this or any dispensation, period.

Another businessman, Chuma Eruchalu, echoed the growing dismay. “Even when you buy goods in the open market across the country, (customs and police officers) still extort money by seizing some of the vehicles in the hope that you settle them. You find (the) police doing the jobs of customs and asking you to provide customs documents used for clearing goods.”

The Nigerian economy is in a shambles, and many small business owners are buffeted by hard times. An administration that means well ought to take every measure to reduce, if not remove, impediments to the flowering of businesses. Instead, under President Buhari’s watch, police and customs fan the roads to importune traders and business owners who are doing their best to keep themselves and dependents afloat.

With the exception of the most privileged among us, Nigerians frequently experience their country as an affliction, a pestilence and a pain in the place where pain hurts most. How I wish that the image created in the rendition of “Feliz Navidad” corresponded with the reality. This is far from being the case. In many cases, the police, soldiers, customs and other security agents view themselves as armed intimidators of the populace they are supposed to defend and protect.

A little sense of history should instruct the president and those who head the various security agencies that it is time they stopped this practice of unleashing ravenous agents to prey on innocent Nigerians. And with the impression gaining ground that these agencies have launched a vicious assault on the enterprising spirit of the South-East, it is time the government rethought its strategy—or risk an unpredictable, possibly explosive, response.

#360EndOfYearReview: Asamalekun, Pree Me, Hola Hola…See the 10 Best Songs Of The Year (2016)

Featured Image

Sifting through loads and loads of music put out during the calendar year, we made use of parameters such as audience acceptance, pop culture effect, quality of recording and lyrical content to assemble our 10 Best Songs of the year 2016.

Only songs released or promoted as singles from January to December in Nigeria were considered.

  1. Pree me- Burna Boy

Once in a while Burna Boy steps away from all the controversies, hooks up with Leriq and just makes a song that is a worthy reflection of his talent. Pree Me is one such hit. Staying true to his roots, Burna Boy lays a slowed down dancehall vibe that bristles with emotion, pours vitriol on them haters and still sounds ready to be played at skank parties. Download: Burna Boy – Pree Me (Prod. by LeriQ)

  1. If I start to talk ft. Dr Sid- Tiwa Savage

Also known as the video that marked the official and very public end of Tiwa Savage’s marriage to former manager TeeBillz. But controversy aside, If I Start to Talk is a mid-tempo, lush yet jaunty pseudo-traditional prayer of thanksgiving and plea for blessings yet to come.

  1. Asamalekun- Reminisce

In one of the hardest songs to drop this year, Reminisce benefits from Sarz’s dubstep mix of Afrobeat beats and EDM leaning and drives home some hard hitting lyrics- in both English and Yoruba,- intended to scare away pretenders who fancy themselves fit to walk in shoes. He scoffs with overconfidence, Ti m’ ba ever bo crown gan /It will not fit. And he may well be telling the truth. Read the full Album Review: Reminisce – El Hadj

  1. Hola Hola- Sugar boy

If there was an award for song of the summer, it would probably go to Sugarboy’s infectious charmer. An ode to hard partying days and nights, Sugarboy’s lyrics don’t necessarily say anything refreshing but when he wails, We live for the party/Oh! lord have mercy, anyone who has ever fallen under the spell of a good party knows he tells nothing but the truth. Download Sugarboy – Hola Hola

  1. Bad gang ft. Falz- Ajebutter 22

This one speaks to the times in a way that is fun and easy to digest. It has a message but does not come swing it with a sledge hammer. Ajebutter 22 and Falz recognise that as working millennials, they are in on the joke too and instead the send up the madness of students gone wild on campus and cast themselves as complicit participants, same as the rest of us. The brief verse by Falz probably elevates the song beyond its humble origins. Download: Ajebutter22 Ft. Falz – Bad Gang

  1. Soft work- Falz

Falz had such an incredible year that it was hard picking out one of his quality hits to make this list. Of these, few are better than Soft work produced by Sess, a bright bubbly rap single featuring breezy wordplay and punchlines that come across so effortlessly yet hit their mark with precision. Exhibit 1: Even real talent gan still need promo/ If you fake your own death you fit still no blow. Skibii probably dies a little more every time this song comes on.

  1. Something good is happening- Brymo

Something good is happening has a doo woop vibe that makes you just want to break out and dance. Joyous, colourful and delivered with flawless vocals by Brymo, no other song this year made you feel so glad to be alive. Download MUSIC: Brymo – Something Good Is Happening and Read Album Review: Brymo – Klitoris

  1. Play na play ft. Angelique Kidjo- Omawumi

For some reason, this high profile duet between two of Africa’s finest vocalists slid by unnoticed but now is about a good time as any to rediscover this gem about exercising caution and looking before you leap. Come for Omawumi’s ever present promise of quality but stay for Angelique Kidjo’s inimitable vocal inflectios. Talk about a power duet. Download Omawumi Ft. Angelique Kidjo – Play Na Play

  1. Gentleman- Ric Hassani

Ric Hassani’s soul opus is so stripped down, it consists mostly of him, his voice, the fluent taps of the silt drum and the chants borrowed from South Africa. But it is all that is needed to pass this message of self-worth across. Sadly songs like Gentleman have become the rarity in today’s music landscape but kudos to Mr Hassani for doing it at all and doing it right. Download MUSIC: Ric Hassani – Gentleman (Prod. Doron Clinton) and Read 360Focus: Ric Hassani Is (Really) The African Gentleman

  1. Sin city- Kiss Daniel

The tepid, laughable video for this album highlight from Kiss Daniel’s New Era album may have done it no favours but Kiss Daniel has never connected better than on this attempt to sully up his good boy image a bit. In just under 3 minutes, Mr Daniel tries to maintain his clean cut bonafides (They can’t believe that I smoke no Kush/that I’m the one them choose) but insists on not falling by the wayside (You push me and I push too). The only thing wrong with Sin City is its all too brief duration. Read Album Review: Kiss Daniel Ushers in the Dawn of a New Era

Germany Prevented 1,237 Nigerians from Entering Its Country

Featured Image

About 1,237 Nigerians were prevented from entering Germany between January and November 2016, a German newspaper said, citing official documents.

The Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung (NOZ) reported that the 1,237 Nigerians were among 19,720 migrants stopped from entering Germany during the period, further citing numbers from the German Federal Police.

READ ALSO: 154 Nigerians Deported From Libya Arrive Lagos

Concert Review: With Bez Live,The Gbagyi Child Shows Us How It’s Done

Featured Image

Every once in a half decade, Bez puts out an album. Since he became a recording artiste, he has released two of them, 2011’s Supersun, and Gbagyi Child released last month. Every once in four years, he will put up a live concert. To promote the album specifically, but also tangentially, to show other acts how it is done.

And how is it done these days?

In an open air environment- Victoria Island’s Muri Okunola Park- that gives off a festival kind of vibe, with mostly young music lovers sitting on mats and sipping on tepid drinks from food stands nearby. On Christmas Eve.

These cool kids have come to watch Bez perform live in only the second major concert to be headlined by him in country. They have come for Bez but before that, they will get opening acts Sir Dauda, Johnny Drille and the spectacular Falana. Not a bad deal at all.

Sir Dauda and Johnny Drille kicked off with well received renditions of new and old songs, covers and originals. But it was the (still criminally) underground Falana who commanded all the attention, the way only established stars pull off with an electric performance of the Nina Simone classic, Feeling good. Safe to say that Falana does the best scats in the business. Divine.

Bez came on with an intro that was rehearsed to wow but sound issues kept interrupting his- and the audience’s mojo- and after a brief run through of Supersun favourites The Good, the bad, the ugly; I Know and Say, he was forced to briefly interrupt the show till pending issues were sorted.

When he resumed about half an hour later, it was to a slowed down tempo. Long-time friend and collaborator Kaline joined him for their now familiar take on More you. Simi was also present for a very competent rendition of Breathe from Gbagyi Child.

Check out 360Hawt: Bez ft. Yemi Alade – You Suppose Know (Remix)

The set was planned such that the tempo kept rising gradually till the sing along goodness of Zuciya daya. Bez invited a few fans to give their own renditions before inviting famous friends, Falana (again), Timi Dakolo and Cobhams Asuquo to join him for a star studded sing along onstage.

Just when things couldn’t get any livelier, a stunning and visually exciting sequence involving Fela’s Water no get enemy was segued in, complete with a terrific line up of female dancers with bodies painted and skins glistening, twerking and shimmying to the intoxicating blend of Afrobeat and Jazz. This set piece ended with Bez in the midst of his dancers adopting the famous Fela pose with his fists pumped high in the air. The only critique of this high point of the show obviously was its brevity.

The goodness continued with music from his latest album Gbagyi Child and Bez performed songs like Home for Gbagyi and Eternity before rounding out with a throbbing performance of the excellent There’s a fire. He also threw in an extra, That stupid song just when it seemed like he was done.

As a performer, Bez was in top form. He clung to his guitar for most of the night and between he and Nsikak David, the lead guitarist of his band, there were enough fiery guitar moments to last several concerts. Bez brought out his charming smile, working the stage like a pro, moving and dancing expressively with the music.

There was no smashing guitar moment like that seen in the 2012 concert but there was also no denying that Bez has come into his own as a live performer. His moves were rock star like, his sound all encompassing. And the crowd? Well the mats laid out earlier in the night were soon trampled upon as excited fans surged forwards to get closer to the action.

Electrifying, splendidly entertaining with a tinge of sweet spiritual surrender, Bez Live 2016 was great music served properly. Live, loud, organic, and endlessly thrilling.

Everyone else should be taking notes.

Wilshere: Chelsea Has The Edge Over Arsenal

Featured Image

Jack Wilshere, Arsenal midfielder currently on loan at Bournemouth sees Chelsea has having the edge to claim the title over his parent club.

Conte’s men are currently on a 12-match winning streak and are six points clear of second place Liverpool.

And with Arsenal lagging nine points behind Chelsea, Wilshere feels the leaders have too much working for them to overlook for the title.

“They look like champions at the minute, for me at the moment they’re the best team in the league,” said Wilshere, who played in the Cherries’ 3-0 loss at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

“There’s still a long way to go of course, you can’t say they’re definitely going to win the league but at the minute they look like the strongest.

“They’ve found this new formation that works for them. I’ve always thought it’s a tough place to come anyway.

“I’ve been [to Stamford Bridge] a few times with Arsenal and we’ve only won once, but they’re more ruthless, they know what the job in hand is, they go out there and week in week out they change their game planning depending on who they are playing.

“I think that’s the sign of a top team.”

Chelsea sit six points clear of nearest rivals Liverpool, with Arsenal a further three back.

Klopp Hopes Guardiola Saw Liverpool’s Game As Special

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has stated he hopes Pep Guardiola Saw something special in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Stoke on Tuesday.

The Merseyside outfit will welcome Manchester City to the Anfield on 31st December. Guardiola was at the Anfield to watch the Reds play Stoke.

It was a comeback victory for Liverpool against Stoke, putting them back in second place and one point ahead of their upcoming opponents.

Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge were all on target for Liverpool, but their manager quickly turned his attention to the encounter against his old Bundesliga adversary on 31 December.

“Pep Guardiola was here,” Klopp said to reporters. “Michael Edwards, the sporting director, messaged me to say that.

“I’m not sure he has watched a lot of games in other stadiums the last few weeks, eh? That’s the first sign that it is a special game!

“We are already looking forward. It’s a difficult game for both teams, but an exciting one. The best news for us is that it’s at Anfield.

“What can I say, I’m really looking forward to it. They’re an outstanding side, we are not too bad. It’ll be a nice game.

“I respect them a lot, but I have not been to City’s stadium this season or last to watch games. Maybe they want to watch good football, maybe Pep saw nothing tonight.

“The game is on the 31st. So whatever I say tonight, we cannot win it tonight. But maybe I could say a few things that make it more difficult for us. It’s probably best I shut my mouth!”

“Confidence is not a problem of the team at the moment. We know about our quality, but obviously we don’t show it all the time,” he continued.

“The start of the game was really difficult, because the plan of Stoke was to press really high especially with the two strikers. We were not patient enough in our passing game, we could have done more.

“It became a wild game, and when they had the ball it was immediately in the air. Peter Crouch did outstanding work, he was really difficult to defend, Joe Allen was brilliant with the second balls in the beginning.

“We had to work really hard, and it was completely open. In the creating of our moments, we struggled a little bit with protection, our positioning, holding the wing, these things.

“A lot of things we could have done better, but we forced two goals with our quality. Both were really good, really important.”

A loved-up picture appeared on both of their Official Instagram pages in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and even though it came with no explanation, it seemed to be enough to reaffirm the tryst.

The 30-year-old rapper and J.Lo, 47, sparked relationship speculation earlier this month when Drizzy attended two of her Las Vegas concerts back-to-back, and hosted an exclusive gathering that Jennifer went to.

While a source told The Sun last week:

“Jen and Drake have tried to keep their romance under wraps by suggesting they are just working together, but the truth is they are an item.

“They have been seeing each other for a number of weeks and her friends are saying she is already smitten.”

It was also gathered that Jennifer and Rihanna, who spent Christmas with friends and family in her native Barbados, are longtime pals despite the 19-year age gap.

And Rihanna’s unfollowing of J-Lo’s Instagram account couldn’t have come a day too soon as both Drake and Jennifer posted a snap of themselves lovingly wrapped in one another’s arms on a sofa on Wednesday.

Wenger’s Says Chelsea’s Loan Move Is A Problem

Featured Image

Chelsea’s loan system of stockpiling young players and sending them out on loan is a problem according to Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger.

Chelsea has 30 players out on loan and the best players, like De Bruyne and Lukaku are often sold for profit.

Wenger is not comfortable with the loan system as he believes the club is looking out for its financial interest.

“It is one of the big problems in the modern game,” he told Arsenal’s official magazine.

“You’ve invested a lot of money into players because we’re paying more and more money, and then at the age of 20 you don’t usually get much money for any of the players, so the reflex is to stockpile the players. That’s not right.

“When you look at the number of loans that happen here and there, the whole system has to be thought about again because we have two kinds of solution in there.

“The first is to continue developing players, the second step is just to make sure your investment is safe – that’s not the right way to think about it but it’s the natural reflex for the clubs.”
