Ronaldo: I’m Already A Part Of Football’s History

Featured Image

Cristiano Ronaldo believes his growing number of accolades has cemented his spot as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

The Best Fifa Men’s Player award was added to the Madrid talisman’s fourth Ballon d’Or, ending a fruitful 2016 for the Portuguese.

Ronaldo ended 2016 with a UCL trophy, club world cup with Madrid and Euro 2016 trophy with Portugal.

“I have no doubt that I am already a part of football’s history,” he told FIFA’s official website.

“This has always been my major goal, since I started playing: not only to become a player, but to be a star and to constantly strive to be the best.

“And I did it: the trophies speak for themselves – both the titles, the individual awards, and the records.

“It is a source of great pride and it motivates me to keep on working the same way I have been doing so far.”

Reflecting on a glittering year with club and country, Ronaldo said: “I have said it a few times: this has probably been the best year of my career.

“Having won the trophy with the national team obviously plays a big part in it as it was a first for Portugal and this makes 2016 a very special year.

“But there is also Real Madrid winning the Champions League and then the Club World Cup to finish the year in the best possible manner.

“It was a spectacular year; a truly special one. I have no doubt that it has been my best since I have started to play football.”

Golovkin Looking To Quiet Jacobs

Featured Image

Gennady Golovkin is looking to make his name as the best middleweight on the planet, when he fights Daniel Jacobs in MSG on March 18.

GGG (36-0-33KO) will put his WBA ‘super’, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight belts on the line against Jacobs (32-1-29KO).

The Kazakhstan boxer knocked out Kell Brook in the fifth round of their fight in July and will face a knockout expert in Jacobs.

Golovkin said: “I believe Daniel is ready for this fight. I have four belts. This is the dream for everybody.

“It is very important for us [to see] who is number one in the middleweight division and who is the best.”

Jacobs has knocked out 12 opponents since recording his only loss to Dmitry Pirog in 2010.

And the 29-year-old New York native is confident he has what it takes to upset Golovkin on home soil.

Jacobs said: “This is the fight that I have always wanted. This is the pinnacle that you could possibly reach to consider yourself the best.

“I have the utmost respect for Gennady and his team. I believe that these guys are the best in the middleweight division and I have to come to prove to the world – and to shock the world – that I am the best.

“If I am 100 per cent mentally and physically prepared there is going to be a new undisputed middleweight champion of the world.”

AC Milan Refuse To Give Up On Signing Gerard Deulofeu

AC Milan are still hoping to complete a deal for Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Toffees are believed to be reluctant to let the 22-year-old leave on a short-term basis, but the Italian paper reports that Milan are still hopeful of getting their man on loan for the rest of the season

Deulofeu has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Ronald Koeman this season and he wants more playing time.

Milan are willing to give that to the former Barcelona man by taking him on loan for the rest of the season.

Everton, however, are against the idea of letting Deulofeu leave on a short-term basis as he is seen as a useful member of the squad.

Deulofeu is reportedly open to moving to the San Siro on loan and he is expected to hold talks with Everton about his future this week.

Asking G.Os To Step Down Is An Overkill

Asking G.Os To Step Down Is An Overkill, By ‘Tope Fasua

Another good idea being mismanaged. The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) has a bad reputation among most Nigerians for being a power-hungry organisation. It has tried to put in place a one-size-fits-all corporate governance code which makes everyone defer to the organisation. That has been challenged.

This article was written by Tope Fasua. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The challenge with religion in Nigeria is two-pronged. Each major religion has its own issues. The Christians proliferate and many smart Alecs have seen these as money making ventures. The Muslims suffer from a proliferation of sects – one of these became Boko Haram. Another is being brutally put down by El-Rufai. Too many exist up north, undocumented. We recall Maitatsine. Reasonable Muslims are afraid of those sects. Boko Haram has killed more Muslims by far, than any other group has.

Nigeria Suspends FRC Code That Forced Adeboye To Step Down As RCCG GO

So the issues are not merely financial. Where does the FRCN come in? Why not have a holistic approach to this issue? When a company registers at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a Limited Liability, because it intends to make profit, FIRS takes over. When a church or mosque or NGO registers at the same CAC, who takes over? Nobody. And FRCN cannot fit the bill because the issue is not about money alone.

As a matter of fact, of late, many of the mushrooming churches don’t even bother going to CAC, or advertising their Board of Trustees for 21 days as required. All those who used to stay at bus stops performing magic and robbing people have turned into pastors. Some stay small, but make money. Our people have a quirk in their DNA that makes them believe some of these things. Poverty also does not help. FRCN can ‘force’ G.Os to step down, shebi that is when you know of the church’s corporate existence? They will only battle the large churches and Buhari will draw a lot of flak for that, and notably it will be called ‘Church persecution”. This is a case of the government shooting itself in the leg. And everything in Nigeria is reduced to money, money, and money.

The problem with Boko Haram is not money. Yes some people fund them and give them arms, and nothing has been said about those. Boko Haram even attacks the poor and never the rich. They kill people at bus stops and mosques and such places. They are blind to the mansions of the rich who have been reveling in lavish ceremonies lately. So we know Boko Haram’s footprints, but we dont know the truth about them. If Boko Haram had been documented when they started, and we knew who their trustees are, people like Ali Modu will not be denying that he never knew them at all. The Trustees of an NGO are the ones saddled with bringing such an organisation to heel if they stray. They are held responsible for the activities of the organisation. The Trustees are meant to be responsible people, identifiable in society. When a list of Trustees is submitted, even their international passport copies are obtained among other documentation. They are contacted where necessary to be sure they agreed to be trustees.

What we need is a comprehensive approach to religion, which has of late gutted this country in more ways than one. Religion divides us down the middle – especially the Middle Eastern ones. For many adherents, anyone who doesn’t believe the way they do is hell-bound, and they are ready to dispatch you there immediately. It is a sad issue.

So the issue is not about forcing GOs to step down. That is an overkill, and a clumsy, counterproductive move. Even in the UK, as strict as they are, I don’t think they force the head of religious organisations to step down. I wrote two strong articles on Charity Commissions in the last few years and had to research the UK and how Charity Commissions get their returns, etc. Nowhere did I find that heads of organisations should step down after a while. See what happened with Nigerians banks and how the founders dashed back to their banks when the ‘sentence’ imposed by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for them to step aside expired? People start organisations and it becomes their ‘baby’. If corporate people can be so attached to the organisations they start, why should spiritual people be excised from their organisations so unceremoniously? Why demote a man in the organisation he started to become a shopfloor member? That should be strictly a personal decision.

Why must a Mike Okonkwo, or Oyedepo, if they are still strong and charismatic, suddenly be retired in the work of the Lord? Those who know ‘spiritual’ things will call this an abomination. I don’t know much about such. In the US, we know there are many old preachers who die preaching and heading the organisations they started. The issue is clearly not about how long they stay as the head of the organisations they create. And churches or mosques do not trade with government money, so the limit to effecting changes in their headship should really not arise. NEVER MEDDLE THAT MUCH IN THEIR AFFAIRS! Obazee – that guy who showed how partisan he was in the case of the then governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi at CBN – is wrong again!

But we can begin really tackling the matter. What we need is a CHARITY COMMISSION that will be on ground and do its work, DOCUMENTING these organisations, putting some sanity into their activities, ensuring they are not here to rip people off, or to turn into terrorist organisations. It is not only about money, or about the Christians alone. Government should wake up.

Let us think about the ramifications of this problem. Think about churches that ‘pastors’ use as fronts for armed robbery, printing of fake currencies, the receipt of stolen goods, baby factories, and other crimes. Then think of churches where they drive nails in children’s heads, and chain them down for months because they are ‘witches’. Think of those ‘pastors’, like the one in Akwa Ibom, who claimed on camera to have killed more than 1,400 people who are witches. Think of the atrocities going on in our land in the name of religion. Think of the low barrier, and how anyone can claim to have heard from God. Think of the effect on productivity in the land as our young and strong people take to ‘preaching’ and making money, while no one actually produces anything tangible.

Then think of Boko Haram, and small terrorist organisations brewing in parts of the country, where decades of socioeconomic mismanagement and elite deception and greed has disconnected them from society and they are seething with their own brands of anger. Is that not what Boko Haram was about? Someone told me last week, that a large proportion of relief funds sent up North-East is being used to build mosques. Nothing wrong with that, only that there are no hospitals, no schools, etc. Food is even scarce. The idea is to hasten people’s journey to heaven right? There is problem in the land.

Nigeria Suspends FRC Code That Forced Adeboye To Step Down As RCCG GO

Featured Image

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the suspension of the controversial Corporate Governance Code that forced Pastor Enoch Adeboye to step down as the Nigeria overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechuckwu Enelamah, made the disclosure in a statement on Monday.

How Buhari Fired Official Who Approved FRCN Retirement Law That Led To Adeboye’s Resignation

The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), under Jim Obazee, had directed non profiting organisations — including churches and mosques — to comply with a corporate governance code stipulating a term of 20 years for heads of such entities.

However, in the five paragraphs statement issued by the minister’s Strategic Communication Adviser, Constance Ikokwu, the minister said the code was suspended in order to carry out a detailed review of its application.

The statement reads in part, “The Corporate Governance Code issued by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria has been suspended, pending a detailed review, extensive consultation with stakeholders and reconstitution of the board of the FRC.

“Government remains committed to restoring and enhancing market confidence and improving the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.

“Government is committed to strengthening FRC and enhancing its capacity to fulfill its core mandate.”

The FRC is one of the parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and it is responsible for setting and promoting compliance with standards for accounting, financial reporting and auditing in Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye Retires As General Overseer Of RCCG

It also regulates the practices of professionals involved in financial reporting and promotes good practices in financial reporting and corporate governance in Nigeria.

BREAKING: Jonathan Breaks Silence On “Malabu Oil Deal” Bribery Allegation

Featured Image

The immediate past President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan has broken words on the allegation that he received gratification to approve the controversial Malabu oil transaction during his tenure.

In a statement issued on his behalf by his spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr. Jonathan denied directing Abubakar Aliyu, a businessman, or any other person to receive bribe on his behalf during or after the negotiation.

Read Full Statement Below.

Our attention has been drawn to news reports published mostly by online media which suggested through innuendo, rather than factual evidence, that former President Goodluck Jonathan received kickbacks in the $1.3bn OPL 245 oil block deal involving oil giants ENI and
Royal Dutch Shell.

With regards to the publication, we wish to make it clear that former President Jonathan was not accused, indicted or charged for corruptly collecting any monies as kickbacks or bribes from ENI by the Italian authorities or any other law enforcement body the world over.

In the first place, we have to categorically state that the negotiations and transactions for the oil block deal predate the Presidency of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan which began on 6th May 2010 and ended on 29th May 2015.

It may interest those promoting this false narrative to know that all the documents relating to the transactions, issues and decisions of the Federal Government on the Malabo issue, during the Jonathan administration, are in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice.

As President of Nigeria, there is no doubt that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan met with executives of all the oil majors operating in Nigeria and urged them to, amongst other things, support the growth of the Nigerian oil industry by ramping up their investments and comply with the Local Content Act that he promoted and signed into law.

We however wish to state, for emphasis, that at no time did the former President hold private meetings with representatives of ENI to discuss pecuniary issues. All the meetings and discussions former President Jonathan had with ENI, other IOCs and some indigenous operators were conducted officially, and in the presence of relevant Nigerian Government officials and were done in the best interest of the country.

We make bold to point out that the former President never sent any Abubakar Aliyu, as the innuendoes in the false report suggest, to ENI, the IOCs or any indigenous operator to seek favour or collect any gratification on his behalf.

We will like to point out for the umpteenth time that whether in office or out of office, former President Jonathan does not own any bank account, aircraft or real estate outside Nigeria. Anyone with contrary information is challenged to publicly publish same.

As the President who signed the Freedom of Information Act into law, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan lifted the veil on governance and encouraged transparency knowing that evil breeds in secrecy. It is the opinion of the former President that journalists and media houses should take
advantage of this law in their investigative journalism, rather than rely on hearsay.

We hope that these clarifications will help guide future reports which should be factual.

Ikechukwu Eze

Media Adviser to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan

(President 2010-2015)

Nigerian Army Frees 1,250 ‘Cleared’ Boko Haram Suspects

Featured Image

The Nigeria Army on Monday freed 1,250 Boko Haram suspects who have been cleared of no links with terror group.

This disclosure was made by Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the army, when the Head of Sub Delegation of ICRC, Mr Beat Mosimann, visited him at the Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri.

8 Dead As Multiple Explosions Hit Maiduguri | Army Captain, 4 Soldiers Killed In Boko Haram Attack

Ezugwu said that the cleared suspects were released in about seven batches after been cleared of having no link with Boko Haram.

He said: “We are keeping this on the regular release because the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. BREAKING: APC Legislators Remove Ali Ndume As Senate Leader

Featured Image

The internal crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have taken another dimension as its legislators in the Senate have removed Ali Ndume (Borno South) as their leader.

Ndume’s removal was conveyed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who read a letter sent to him by the caucus.

In the letter, which was transmitted to the Senate on Tuesday, the APC caucus forwarded the name of Senator Ahmed Lawal (Yobe North) as the new Senate Leader.

The APC caucus also said the decision was arrived at during the party’s meeting on Monday, January 9, 2017.

Speaking to pressmen after the Senate’s plenary, Mr. Ndume said the decision of the caucus to remove him as leader came as a surprise to him.

He said he was oblivious of what led to the decision or where the meeting was held to remove him.

Ndume’s predicament may not be unconnected to the indictment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the rejection of Ibrahim Magu as EFCC Chairman by the Senate.

Ndume had claimed the Senate neither rejected nor indicted the officials, prompting a counter reaction by the Senate’s spokesperson, Aliyu Abdullahi.

With this,  the Senate President may announce Mr. Lawan as the new Senate Leader at the next sitting of the legislators.

Lucas Uncertain About His Future At Liverpool

Midfielder Lucas is considering his future at Liverpool, but might be tempted to stay by the club’s title challenge.

The 30-year-old, who has become a squad player at Anfield, told Press Association Sport: “The situation is not great. It is not something I want for my future, to have not many games.

“I don’t want this for my career, especially at my age. I’m not close to retiring and have many years ahead of me.

“You want to play – we get paid to play – but I just try to be professional and help as much as I can and when I have the chance do my best.

“At this moment I have to deal with this and try to find a solution when I have the chance. I have to be professional, think about the team and see what is going to happen.

“The best place for me to be now is Liverpool. I cannot say (where) in one week’s time, one month’s time or four months’ time. I have to judge when something comes up if it is better.

“It has been a special season already and we have a chance to win trophies and that is something I consider as well.”

Arsenal Announce Signing Of Cohen Bramall

Featured Image
Arsenal have announced that they have completed the signing of Cohen Bramall from Hednesford Town.

The transfer of the 20-year-old had been expected since last week when he spoke openly about his trial with the Gunners, and both clubs are now in a position to confirm that they move has been finalised.

Bramall has moved to North London for an undisclosed fee, but it has been widely reported that the fee for the left-back is in the region of £40,000, with Hednesford expected to receive add-ons should the move prove to be a success.

The switch marks a remarkable rise for Bramall, who began the season only on trial at Northern Premier League side Hednesford, who play at the seventh tier of English football.

During the first two months of the season, Bramall impressed with his lightning pace down the left flank and he was soon offered a trial with Crystal Palace, where we impressed in a behind-closed-doors fixture.

Sheffield Wednesday were the next team to show an interest and it was during a reserve game with the Owls where Bramall was spotted by Arsenal scout Brian McDermott, who invited him to a two-day trial with the Premier League side.

Bramall had expected to train with the Under-23 squad but he was invited to take part in sessions with the first team, where he did enough to impress Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff.

Arsene Wenger had to say about Arsenal’s newest signing, Cohen Bramall

“He is a young, promising left back who has a lack of experience at the top level but who has fantastic ingredients,” he told Arsenal Player.

“He has tremendous pace, a good left foot, a great desire to do well. Overall, he’s a very exciting prospect.”

He will begin life at Arsenal with the second-string but after signing what is believed to be a two-and-a-half year contract at the Emirates Stadium, he is regarded as a potential first-team player for the future.

The former Hednesford Town full back, speaking to Arsenal Player, said of his move: ‘It feels incredible. I can’t believe I’m here already. It’s been mental.

‘It’s been crazy. I played for Hednesford Town. I had been there for about five months and the manager was Lee McDonald who really took me on.

‘I wanted to be a left winger and he said in front of my mum and dad “no I want you to be a left back”.

‘I was new to it but I played left back for him and he gave me a lot of confidence to be a proper left back

Group Urges Pastor Adeboye To Rescind His Resignation As General Overseer Of RCCG

Featured Image
The Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights has urged Pastor Enoch Adeboye to rescind his resignation as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
This was made public in a statement issued by the Executive Director of the Abuja-based human rights group, Mr Frank Tietie, on Tuesday. Mr Tietie said Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER) would seek a court order to compel Pastor Adeboye to reverse his decision should he refuse to voluntarily do so.
Pastor Adeboye stepped down as the General Overseer of the RCCG on Saturday on the basis of the controversial Corporate Governance Code of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. The code, which stipulates a 20-year maximum tenure for heads of religious groups and civil rights organisations, among other provisions, was suspended by the Federal Government on Monday. If the Federal Government had not suspended the code, the regulation could have also seen the exit of some other affected men of God from the headship of their churches. Pastors like Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide aka Winners’ Chapel, Pastor William Kumuyi of Deeper Christian Life Ministry and Bishop Mike Okonkwo of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) would’ve been affected.

Tietie said, “CASER urges the highly-revered Pastor Adeboye to change his mind and rescind his resignation as the General Overseer of RCCG.”

“Where, therefore, the holy man of God refuses to review his decision to resign, CASER shall seek an order of court to compel him to remain as the general overseer.’’

He said the group was acting, not only in the interest of members of the RCCG who respect Adeboye, but also in the interest of the Church generally.
