Pep Guardiola Admits He Loves Watching Totenham Play

Featured Image

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confessed that he is a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur, as he prepares for Saturday’s crunch clash between the two sides.

Guardiola is a huge fan opposite number Mauricio Pochettino, who he believes has turned Tottenham into one of the most entertaining sides around – from the backline right through to Harry Kane in attack.

“He’s done a brilliant job,” the former Barcelona boss told reporters. “It is the third season there. They play how he wants. It is a really good team, strong physically, good build-up, good quality between the lines with [Christian] Eriksen and Dele Alli.

“Physical and technical full-backs with [Danny] Rose and [Kyle] Walker, you know them from the national team in England. It is a real good team. They play attractively. [Pochettino’s] positional game is really good. With three at the back and the four at the back they use the perfect movements in the build-up with the goalkeeper.

“[Mousa] Dembele has the quality in holding midfield; one against one they attack, they can use long balls with [Harry] Kane and they arrive at the right tempo. They are really playing good. As a fan of football, I love to see them. His positional game is quite similar to Chelsea but they have some different movements.”

Tottenham have won each of the last three meetings between the two sides, the most recent of which ended Guardiola’s perfect domestic start to life in English football.

Joel Matip Now Eligible To Play For Liverpool As FIFA Dismiss Cameroon’s Case

Featured Image

Joel Matip is eligible for selection by Liverpool after FIFA ruled in their favour

World football’s governing body have finally ruled in favour of the Reds, allowing Matip to play against Swansea this weekend.

Cameroon had argued that he should not be allowed to play for Liverpool while the tournament in Gabon was on going

Joel Matip has not played for his country since June 2015, and showed little desire to end his self-imposed exile.

Matip, 25, made his decision citing a “bad experience” with the national team, but was still called up, despite insisting he had retired from international football.FIFA had wanted the dispute to be sorted out between Liverpool and Cameroon but were asked to step in.

A statement on the club’s official website declared: “Liverpool FC can confirm that all charges against the club and its player Joel Matip have been dismissed by FIFA following confirmation this evening from world football’s governing body.

“The club had requested FIFA to provide guidance on Matip’s eligibility after a complaint had been made by FECAFOOT to FIFA concerning the player’s purported call-up to the Cameroon national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Following FIFA’s ruling, the club now considers the player available for selection.

“Matip was withdrawn from the Reds’ squad against Manchester United last Sunday as the club sought clarity on his eligibility, while he also missed the subsequent FA Cup tie at Plymouth Argyle.”

Bellew Takes Another Shot At Haye, Says He’s No Longer A Force

Featured Image

Tony Bellew is aiming at victory over former heavyweight champion, David Haye and believes it’ll make him the most valuable heavyweight on the planet.

And the Everton fan is insistent on the fact that his fellow Brit is not the same force he used to be when he was winning titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight.

The much awaited heavyweight bout will happen come March 4 at The O2 arena and Bellew is certain Haye’s complacency will prove costly.

Bellew told Sky Sports News HQ: “I know this fight can be ended for me in 20 seconds or I could end it in the 12th.

“He doesn’t believe I can even hit him, he has no regard for me whatsoever. He thinks he is going to turn up and walk through me. He is just an ego maniac.

“I am the guy who has been facing world class fighters, this guy has been posing on beaches for five years and living in nightclubs.

“The best win of David’s career is still in Paris on that great night against Jean-Marc Mormeck and that was at cruiserweight [in 2007]. Can anyone tell me a great heavyweight he has beaten?

“If I was fighting the David Haye who went to Paris, I would say I am up against it, but I’m not.”

Bellew admitted he respects Haye’s athleticism but thinks his own greater heart and desire will prove decisive.

“He is an amazing athlete,” said Bellew. “Very fast, very powerful, he is probably one of the best athletes in a boxing ring today.

“But I am not intending on having a race with him, I am going to have a fight with him. This isn’t the triathlon, it’s a fight, and that’s what I am good at doing.

“He had better hope this fight ends in four rounds because, if it doesn’t, he is in a world of trouble.”

At a pre-fight press conference back in November, Haye threw a punch at Bellew and the merseysider is more motivated after the incident.

“I pushed him away, he threw a punch and, in my opinion, you have overstepped the mark then,” said Bellew.

“We have a code among fighters that we should never really throw punches without gloves on and it was very stupid on his part.

“Just the thought of beating him motivates me every day, the thought of beating someone who is recognised as the best cruiserweight this country has ever seen, a former heavyweight champion of the world.

“I knock ‘Sideshow Bob’ out, I then become the most valuable heavyweight in the world, outside of the champions, and that is what is driving me each and every day.”

Jamie Redknapp: Arsenal Can’t Afford To Lose Alexis Sanchez

Featured Image

Arsenal can’t afford to let Alexis Sanchez leave – they need to pay up and give him a new contract, says Jamie Redknapp.

“Every now and again a club faces a big problem and that big problem for Arsenal right now is Alexis Sanchez’s contract situation,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s their best player, the one every club would want. His work ethic is second to none, too.  Arsenal can’t afford to lose him. On the pitch, he’s their top scorer. Their talisman.

“But off the field, his departure would also send out the wrong message to players Arsenal are trying to sign. They want to come to the club because it’s one of the best in the world but also because of players such as Sanchez who are there.

“His exit would give players like Mesut Ozil reason to question whether the club is going in the right direction, too – and an excuse to consider their own future.”

Jose Mourinho Admits Memphis Depay Could Return As Manchester United Insert Buy-back Clause

Featured Image

Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho thinks Memphis Depay could return to Old Trafford one day.

The Dutch winger has joined Lyon for a fee of around £22m after making just one start under Mourinho

Manchester United have inserted a buy-back clause into his contract  so he could one day be back at Old Trafford.

“Potentially, he is a very good player,” Mourinho added. “I think when Mr Van Gaal decided to buy him, he did well. He knew him well from the national team, when he was young in the World Cup he had flashes of top quality.

“He was playing well in Holland but not the same here, but he was showing very good things.

“He didn’t succeed in his 18 months but he is very young, so I think it is very important for the club to keep control of this talent, and we all wish he plays very well at Olympique Lyon and why not come back, because everyone really likes him.”oseo

Mourinho has revealed he was not planning on key business happening during mid-season, but explained why he opted to sanction the sales.

“I don’t think it is human to stop them from going,” he said. “Only a bad offer or no offer stops them to go.

“But when the offer is correct, and we know how to evaluate that, I don’t think it’s human to stop somebody to go.

“So if [the same applies to] one of the players that are not happy, again I would not stop them to go.”

Fiorentina Striker Nikola Kalinic Rejects €48 Million Move To Chinese Club Tianjin Quanjian

Featured Image

Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic has turned down a lucrative move to Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian and opted to remain with the Serie A club.

The 29-year-old Croatia forward, who joined the Viola from Ukrainian side Dnipro two years ago, has rejected a reported €48m euro deal to move to the Super League newcomers stating: “Everyone is nice to me here. I’m fine”.

“I am staying at Fiorentina, that is my decision,” Kalinic told Sportske Novosti. “I want to play in Italy, at the club where I have been for two years and where I am happy, thanks to the coach and my teammates.

“There has been enormous pressure on me about this transfer with everybody pushing me to go. It seemed like the press wanted rid of me, but not Fiorentina or their fans.”

“I never said that I would have liked to go, but of course when I received an offer, it was only natural that I considered it,” he said. “But I never expressed a desire to leave. I never spoke directly to the Chinese and I don’t even know how much Tianjin had offered Fiorentina. I received an offer and I have decided to stay, and that is my final decision.”

Kalinic has scored nine Serie A goals for Fiorentina this season, netting a further four in the Europa League.

Joleon Lescott Now Training With Sunderland As He Aims To Secure A Move

Featured Image

Joleon Lescott is training with Sunderland to try and win a short-term deal with David Moyes’ side. The former Aston Villa defender – who is a free agent – joined in with the group this morning.

Joleon Lescott is a free agent after his contract with AEK Athens was terminated by mutual consent last year.

A short-term deal for the defender may appeal to Moyes, who said on Friday morning that funds for new signings are fairly limited.

“I’d be kidding you on if I said the players we are going to bring in in January are going to massively make a big difference,” said Moyes.

“First of all, we probably couldn’t get that level of player and, secondly, we probably wouldn’t have the finances to do that.

“To suggest that the player we bring in would be making a big difference, I think, wouldn’t be correct.”

Diego Costa Available For Match Against Hull City

Featured Image

Diego Costa is available for Chelsea‘s Premier League clash with Hull on Sunday and wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, head coach Antonio Conte says.

Diego Costa trained alone on Sunday and Monday before rejoining his team-mates at Cobham on Tuesday.

“Yes. He’s available for the game against Hull City. He restarted having training sessions on Tuesday with the rest of the team.

‘Diego trained on Sunday and Monday to help him train with us on Tuesday. He trained with a fitness coach, not alone.

‘Usually every week I have a chat with my players. This week I had different chats with my players.

“I think the player wants to stay at Chelsea. He’s very happy to play with us. This idea (to move) is far from his mind.”

Dimitri Payet Kicked Out Of West Ham’s Players Whatsapp Group, Gets His Car Vandalised

Featured Image

Dimitri Payet’s car has been vandalised in his West Ham home on Thursday night.

The attack on the player’s car took place on Thursday night says the Daily Mail. “The car was targeted outside Payet’s house, with suggestions a brick was thrown through a window,” it reports.

Dimitri Payet and his wife Ludivine are desperate to move back to the south of France.

His former club Marseille are set to make a third bid, this time of £25million, and are confident that will get the deal done.

The midfielder’s exit now looks “inevitable” says the paper, which claims that he has alienated his colleagues as well as fans. “He has been ostracised by some teammates and the Frenchman is no longer welcome at team meetings and bonding dinners.” Other reports say he has been deleted from the first team’s WhatsApp group.

West Ham’s Captain Mark Noble and James Collins reportedly used Whatsapp to tell Payet he was no longer considered part of the team, with the West Ham group administrator Pedro Obiang telling him he was not welcome to be part of the team conversation any longer and deleted his number.

Bilic said: ‘Dimi took his stance clearly. We took our stand very clearly and it stays the same.

‘We are not going to sell our best players on the cheap just because someone wants to sign them or even because they want to go home. We know the market. Like everybody, he has his price.

‘The ball is in Marseille’s court. They expressed interest, now they should act.’

David Moyes Unsure About Making New Signings In January

Featured Image

David Moyes admits he is unlikely to bring in any players this month who will make a notable difference to his Sunderland team.

“I’d be kidding you on if I said the players we are going to bring in in January are going to massively make a big difference,” he said.

“First of all, we probably couldn’t get that level of player and, secondly, we probably wouldn’t have the finances to do that.

“To suggest that the player we bring in would be making a big difference, I think, wouldn’t be correct.”

“I can just tell you that we have been in for a few players and we are trying to see if we can bring things in.”

With rumours rife about players both joining the club and leaving, Moyes stressed much of the transfer talk he has heard has been inaccurate.

He said: “I’m sure there can be an element of truth in some of them, others there’s none. Sometimes you play the game and you’re telling everybody about transfers when there’s not.

“I think we have been linked with about four of five players this week and I can tell you the players we’re in for, it’s been none of them.”

“He’s a striker, I only have so many strikers. There is only (Islam) Slimani to hold the ball up and I need two strikers who are very similar. I can understand, of course, because until two years ago he was used to playing every match.”

Klopp: I Could Kick Mane In The Lower Back

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has mixed emotions as Sadio Mane fired Senegal into the knockout stage of the AFCON.

The Liverpool forward scored his second goal of the tournament, as Senegal secured their second win to secure a place in the knockout.

Klopp is thrilled to see Mane continue his excellent form for this season but could not hide his frustration that he will remain unavailable for Liverpool for at least a little longer.

“I wrote to him and said ‘I’m happy for you, but on the other hand, I could really kick your… lower back,” Klopp told a news conference on Friday.

“Of course, they’re through, it’s good, he scored again and played good again. Mixed emotions would be the best description. As long as he’s fit, we’ll take it like it is and support Senegal.”

Conte Reveals Why He Brought Back Ake

Antonio Conte has stated he recalled Nathan Ake because he has a role to play in Chelsea’s bid for the title.

The defender has gone out on loan on numerous occasions and was called back from his spell with Bournemouth after impressing under Eddie Howe.

And Conte has said he does not intend to cash in on the Dutch, due to his strong performance in the January transfer window.

Instead, the Italian believes that the versatile Ake will be a valuable addition as he looks to maintain Chelsea’s position at top of the table.

“Nathan Ake came back with us because I evaluated his situation and our situation and he is a good reinforcement,” Conte told reporters.

“Ake is a player who can play in different positions. I think he has improved a lot and now he is ready to play with Chelsea and help us.

“This is the second week he has been with us and he is starting to go into our idea of football. I’m pleased to have him.”

Chelsea face strugglers Hull City in the Premier League on Sunday.
