“Moreover, it is a very valuable offer for a player who turned 31 last Sunday.

“We would like to thank Adrian Ramos for his passionate commitment over the past two and a half years and wish him and his family the very best in Spain and China.”

Lewandowski Backs Muller To Regain Scoring Touch

Featured Image

Robert Lewandowski is confident his Bayern Munich teammate, Thomas Muller will rediscover his form.

The Germany international scored only one goal in 13 Bundesliga appearances in the first half of the season and has not improved since returning after the mid season break.

However, Lewandowski sees no call for alarm, as he is certain Muller will find his deadly form soon enough.

“You do not lose your goal [scoring] instinct. It simply does not work that way. He is just going through a phase where he is lacking a bit of luck. But he will soon rediscover his form,” the Poland international told Munchner Merkur.

“Everybody expects Thomas to score at least 20 goals, but we should still be satisfied with what he has been doing. You cannot judge him solely on his goals. He is always working hard and when you do that, the goals will come eventually.

“It is important for a striker not too think about things too much. That never works. You always have to think about the next game and about scoring a goal again.”

US Court Rules Against Buruji Kashamu On Drug Charges

Featured Image

A United States appeal court has upheld a ruling mandating Buruji Kashamu to face a drug trafficking trial, according to reports.

The senator and alleged drug kingpin who inspired Netflix’s hit women’s prison show, Orange Is The New Black was elected into the Senate in 2015 despite being wanted in the US since 1998.

Kashamu, however argues that his dead brother is who they want instead. In April 2015, He asked a district court to prevent his “abduction abroad by U.S. authorities.” The court dismissed the complaint, and the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling Monday. It said U.S. agents’ attempt to arrest Kashamu in coordination with local authorities would not constitute “an attempted abduction”. The ruling means that Kashamu can be extradited from Nigeria  to the US to answer to the charges.

Senator Kashamu was indicted in a heroin case alongside money launderer turned “Orange Is the New Black” writer Piper Kerman in 1998, the latter has since pleaded guilty to the charges alongside several other people.

Depay Holds No Grudge Against Mourinho

Featured Image

Despite not getting regular playing time under Mourinho, Memphis Depay says he had no problems with the manager.

The 22-year-old winger swapped United for Lyon this month, joining for a fee that could potentially rise to £21.7 million.

And Mourinho has not ruled out Depay returning to the club, believing he has the potential to be a very good player.

And Depay does not appear to hold any grudge, telling OL TV: “His words were nice. In Manchester, I always worked as I had to. For me personally, it wasn’t all that easy, I needed to play. But we didn’t have a bad relationship.

Depay made his debut for Lyon as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Marseille at the weekend. And he says he is ready to push for a starting place: “I feel very good, in top form. My first week was good, training went very well, and little by little I’m getting back into the rhythm.

“Now I think I’m ready to start a game as of the next match. I’m training hard, my fitness is good. I think I can push for a starting place for the next game.”

Lagos BRT Announces Plans To Increase Bus Fares In February

Featured Image

The Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme, Primero Transport Services, has said plans are underway to increase its fares on all routes as from February 2017.

The company’s Managing Director, Mr Fola Tinubu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikorodu on Thursday.

Mr Tinubu said the hike was as a result of the increase in the cost of operations.

The company has maintained a fare of N75, N120, and N195 from Ikorodu to Mile 12, Fadeyi, and CMS, respectively, since it started operations in November 2015.

According to him, the company will introduce new fares which will take effect between the end of February and early March.

“We are going to increase our price because of the situation in the country, our cost has just gone through the roof,” Tinubu said.

“At this time last year, we bought 1.2 million litres of diesel monthly at N120 per litre, we are now buying at N260; tires that cost N70,000 each now go for N140,000.

“All the parts used for the buses are imported so they’ve all doubled or tripled in price, and we have no choice but to continue to buy them.

“So, in doing that we have to find a way to make it work because you all know that the buses were bought in China; so, we have a foreign dollar component in our debt portfolio.”

“When we bought the buses it was N168 to a US dollar and now we are talking of N470 and we still have to pay the dollar component back.

“So, our debt has increased and our cost of operation has gone through the roof, and we have managed to keep the pricing same for now.

“In fact, right now, we are subsidising every person we carry, and if you are running a business, you can only do that for so long.’’

He said though the company was aware of its social responsibility, but the increase in fares was inevitable if its bus services were to be kept on a sustainable footing.

“The airlines have increased theirs between 200 per cent and 300 per cent but we will not even do 100 per cent.

“So, it is going to be something manageable for people. I will try not to put a figure to that now because the governor still has to approve it, and I don’t want to pre-empt him.

“What I can say is that it’s going to be a marginal increase and not a drastic increase and still less than what the commercial bus operators are charging right now.

“We are not even going to be close to that; but there is no other solution to it because if we do not, it is going to be recipe for disaster down the road,” Mr. Tinubu, added.

Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday reshuffled committees, shortly before adjourning plenary till February 21, 2017.

In an attempt to quell the palpable tension between him and former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, Saraki has named him as the new chairman of the committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

With the announcement of the new committee heads, the total number of committee chairmen now stands at 68, from its earlier 66.

Meanwhile the Senate also passed the 2017 budget for second reading, with Saraki referring it to the Appropriations committee and other sub committees.

Dortmund’s Subotic Joins Koln On Loan

Featured Image

Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has left the club for Koln on loan till the end of the 2016-17 season.

The 28-year-old defender was close to joining Middlesbrough in the close injury, but a rib injury he sustained ended that move.

Subotic is yet to make an appearance for the BVB this season due to injuries and his chances of first team football are relatively slim.

Consequently the centre-back has been allowed to leave Dortmund on a temporary basis.

“Bearing in mind what Neven has done for BVB, we decided to meet the player’s request to be allowed to join Koln on loan until the end of the season in order to gain match rhythm at the highest level,” sporting director Michael Zorc said.

Subotic joined Dortmund from Mainz in 2008 and has since made over 200 appearances in all competitions for the club, winning the Bundesliga title in 2011 and 2012.

“The way Neven identifies himself with Dortmund is quite rare in modern football,” CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke added.

“Even though Neven will leave us on a temporary basis, we will keep him as a friend forever. Dortmund are and will always be his home. He is always welcome here.”

Wade And Butler Unleash On Teammates, After Another Avoidable Loss

Featured Image

Both Dwayne Wade and Jimmy Butler have ripped into their teammates after they lost to the Hawks 119-114 after having a 10 points lead with three minutes on the clock.

The Bulls stars combined for 73 points on the night and knew exactly what message they wanted to pass across after coming out of the showers.

“I don’t know what happened,” Wade said. “But we continue to be in these kinds of situations and lose games like this. Everyone don’t care enough. You got to care enough, man. It’s got to mean that much to you to want to win. And it doesn’t. So I don’t know what happened.

“I don’t know how you fix it. It just doesn’t mean enough to guys around here to want to win ballgames. It pisses me off, but I can’t be frustrated, and I can’t care too much for these guys. They have to care for themselves. You got to do better. You got to do better with knowing where your shot’s coming and knock them down. You got to do better with knowing film, knowing personnel. Just as a team, just got to do better, man.”

When asked if this loss was debilitating to the Bulls, Wade said he wasn’t sure.

“I don’t know if they care enough,” Wade said of his teammates. “So I can’t say it is. I wish I could say that everyone in here is going to go home and not eat tonight. I can’t say that. I wish I could, but I don’t know that they care enough. Games are supposed to hurt. You’re not supposed to sleep, you’re not supposed to want to talk to anybody. These games are supposed to hurt. I don’t know if that is in guys in this locker room. Hopefully they can prove me wrong, but I will challenge them to see if losses like this hurt.

“We can play bad, we can miss shots, but we’re having too many of these lapses. We’re having too many of these losses. This just can’t be acceptable if you want to do something besides have an NBA jersey on and make some money. That’s all we’re doing around here.”

Wade was asked if the larger issues were due to a lack of attention on game days or practice days.

“I don’t know. Pick,” he said. “But at the end of the day, you just got to want more for yourself. It’s a team game, but it’s what you bring individually to the team. You play a good game, you play a bad game, it’s how you go down and look at the film. It’s how you look at the other opponents and see what you’re doing. What you can take away from it.

“This game is more than just shot makes and misses. I don’t know. Guys have to answer that question themselves. I’m not at home with people, but I don’t know if I see enough guys who really, really want it. As long as it’s like this, it has to hurt them. I’m 35 years old, man. I’ve got three championships. It shouldn’t hurt me more than it hurts these young guys. They have to want it. If they don’t want it, then we’ll show up and play Friday. Hopefully we win; if we don’t, we [do it] again. Keep it going until the season’s over. It has to change — it has to hurt inside to lose games like this. This s— should f—ing hurt.”

Butler echoed Wade’s sentiments.

“M—–f—–s just got to care if we win or lose,” Butler said. “At the end of the day, do whatever it takes to help the team win. You play your role to the tee. Be a star in your role, man. That’s how you win in this league, man. You have to embrace what this team, what this organization needs for you to do on either end of the floor. On top of everything else, just play every possession like it’s your last. We don’t play hard all the time. It’s very disappointing whenever we don’t play hard.”

Both Butler and Wade are hopeful that Wednesday’s loss lights a fire under the rest of their teammates. But they aren’t sure if it will.

“Yeah, I mean if you don’t come in … pissed off after you lose any game, if you’re not pissed off that you lost, man, something is wrong,” Butler said. “This is your job. This is what you’re supposed to love to do, and I don’t think that everybody looks at it that way. I want to play with guys that care, guys that play hard, that want to do well for this organization. That want to win games, man. Do whatever it takes, just win. Who cares who is shining? When we’re winning, everybody looks great, everybody is doing what they’re supposed to do. I don’t think that’s happening right now, I really don’t.”

Why We Wish Our Presidents Dead

Featured Image

Why We Wish Our Presidents Dead – Abimbola Adelakun

When former Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, died in June 1998, I was one of those who took to the streets to celebrate the nation’s liberation from his murderous grip. These days, I look back at that infamous Monday and wonder the point of rejoicing at someone’s death when none of us is beyond mortality. Abacha’s death, we know, resolved a conundrum and cleanly freed us from the bonds with which he held us. Also, given the timing of his death, it did in fact seem God heard Nigerians’ cries for liberation. However, death by natural causes is no punishment; it is one of life’s many realities.

This piece was written by Abimbola Adelakun. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

In the past few days, both the “fake news” and refutation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s “death” have seized the airwaves and “bus-stop parliaments.”

Since the President’s announcement of his annual vacation and “medical trip” to the United Kingdom, folks eager to script Buhari’s obituary have been beating an elegiac gong. In the post-truth world, rumours and fact-free truths travel the world without a visa and debunking them, unfortunately, sometimes assert their validity.

To make a revolting matter even more shameful, Buhari’s media aides, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, two spin doctors who never muster enough professional dignity to overlook the temptation of wading in murky pools with every species of human, seized their social media handles. They announced – with puerile peevishness- that the President was alive and well! From their interaction with cybercitizens, one deduces they imagine that those who wanted the President dead are malevolent souls who are still sore Buhari defeated their candidate in the 2015 election.

Adesina and Shehu might well be right. In the run-up to the 2015 election, the sitting governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, started the guessing game about Buhari’s health and death. Other “wailers” picked up the baton and have continued to run with it since then. What both aides have probably not considered is that such rumour mongering is also a response to the failures of the government to properly communicate with people. Over the years, the Nigerian government has proved to be thoroughgoing dishonest on even simple and insignificant issues. When people cannot get reliable official information, they make up their realities and hawk them around until they acquire some truth value.

Besides, our nation has a long history of leaders lying about their health. From Abacha to the late Umaru Yar’Adua, to te wife of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, we never get an accurate picture of anything. Till now, we cannot tell with confirmed certainty if it was liver cirrhosis that killed Abacha or the mysterious “Indian escorts”. Did Yar’Adua speak regularly to his ‘Kitchen Cabal’ or his communication on his deathbed was a case of ‘Esau’s hand, Jacob’s voice’? How did Governor Danbaba Suntai govern Taraba State after his accident? What was the nature of Dame Patience Jonathan’s illness and how did she get mysteriously healed after leaving Aso Rock? What is Buhari’s actual condition of health? In these times where the traffic one successfully drives to one’s website translates to financial gains, “fake news” mongering will not abate. Until our leaders learn to preempt rumours by making their health conditions public information, they will expend themselves putting out fires.

Rather than stamp their petulant feet on the ground and moan the immorality of wishing one’s leaders dead, they should ask why the people they govern want them dead. Beyond the obvious reasons of poor communication between the leader and the led, is the reality of spite and sadism on the part of the citizens. People wish their leaders dead because they want to transpose some of the pains those leaders inflict on them back to the leaders; they want everything that brings them joy obliterated

While I am in no way justifying this sadism on the part of the people, I also think a mere resort to flagellating them will not help our leaders to introspect. The question they should in fact ask themselves is why things should be otherwise.

Why should people care if their leaders live or die when those leaders themselves do not care if their people die or live?

Why ask people to demonstrate empathy towards a leader who grabs the public wallet and goes abroad to see well-trained specialists in well-funded hospitals? Why ask impoverished people to show humane feelings towards such a person when the system that the leader runs at home cannibalises them and their children? Why would people who live, move, and have their being, amidst dehumanising conditions be concerned about the ethics of wishing death on someone else? The conditions of their own existence already bespeak death yet they are supposed to writhe at the pain of a leader whose privileges are funded with their blood?

If they must know, wishing our leaders dead is moral revanchism. Those death wishes are like the stone from David’s slingshot. They might not have achieved the desired aim of hitting Goliath in the head and watching him drop dead but is nevertheless a ready weapon of warfare available to the agonised poor, the helpless victims of the nation’s necropolitics, the forgotten and silenced majority, and the historically and structurally dispossessed. Trying to ramp up religious or cultural sentiments about the immorality of wishing our leaders dead will not abdicate the reasons people wish death or evil on their leaders, such shaming will only repress the instinct to publicly express it. Under that surface sneer of “I wish Mr. President soonest recover” will remain a seething rage that can only find some cathartic outlet through their deaths.

I dare say that this feeling of “go and die!” as it was once tactlessly voiced by a former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, is mutual between the leaders and the led. In Nigeria, we eat death for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Life is cheap here and there is little evidence that our leaders think that our lives matter. Ours is a country where a bomb will “mistakenly” drop on a refugee camp, death toll will rise to 236 and not a thing has changed one week later. No lawmaker is currently sitting to review the gross incompetence that led to such a massacre and propose changes to the conditions that made it happen.

Ours is a country where protesters are shot by security agencies whose heads have been addled and nobody, not even their state governors or legislators will shut down the system and demand that their deaths be redressed. From Benue to Enugu states, people have been gruesomely killed by rampaging herdsmen but what have our “dear leaders” done other than toss the responsibility of accountability elsewhere? The blood of the Shiites who were dumped in graves dug at night still cries for justice but it flies past our deafened ears. The many victims of violent deaths vociferously cry for redress; their vain pleas drain us of psychic energy. If our lives are treated so cheaply, why are they surprised wishes of their own death are cheaply trafficked?

We are gradually becoming a society where death is meaningless because life itself has been sapped of meaning. When people look at their leaders and wish them dead, they are trying to infuse some meaning into a meaningless order. Just like we thought of Abacha, if this person -who represents ethical and spiritual corruption, decadence, executive aloofness, oppression of the poor by the rich – drops dead, then maybe it is proof that there is a God; He exists and in fact cares about alleviating our pain.

Buhari is not the first President who will be rumoured dead and if the one that comes after him makes our lives miserable too, people could wish him/her dead as an expression of their inner rage and frustrated helplessness. It is nothing personal.

Buhari’s Health: Saraki Denies Link In Alleged Plot To Remove Osinbajo As Nigerian Governors Meet

Featured Image

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in a statement, called on those linking him as replacement for Yemi Osinbajo after the Vice-President must have been forced to resign, to leave him out of the “baseless rumour.”

The statement from the Senate President read:

Leave Me Out of ?the ?Baseless Rumour?s?, Says Saraki

My attention has been drawn to a speculation on some online media about supposed meeting of some Governors who held Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to ransom and sought for Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to take over the Presidency.

My first initial reaction was to ignore this empty rumour but after being inundated with calls from across the country and abroad, it became necessary for me to make clarifications from our own end.

It is a good thing that the Presidency had dismissed the speculation and showed that there is no substance to it. However, i feel it should be known that those behind this baseless, empty and unintelligent mischief are those who do not love this country.

Such suggestions as contained in the speculation can only bring ill-will, disunity and crisis to the country and i therefore advise the sponsors to desist immediately. More importantly, these trouble makers should refrain from linking Senator Saraki’s name to their evil plot.

Special Adviser (Media and Publicity to Senate President)

The insinuation has been rife following rumours making the round of the death of President Muhammadu Buhari who took leave to see his doctors for medical attention in London, United Kingdom last week.

In his contribution, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, on Wednesday said there was no truth in the rumours that Osinbajo was being foisted by some state governors to resign.

In a statement issued, the presidential aide said, “I have read many ridiculous stories saying the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is being held hostage by some governors who are trying to compel him to resign.

“I have equally received several calls regarding this. The story is simply not true. It is a fabrication. Don’t be a purveyor of fake news.

“The Vice-President is behind his desk carrying out his task. The Federal Executive Council, presided over by him, has just ended and he has been busy receiving visitors and holding meetings.”

In an attempt to discuss and douse the growing tension, members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) are billed to meet today (Thursday) in Abuja.

The meeting, which will among others, discuss the 10-day annual leave of President Buhari, is expected to allay the speculations making the round.

Sources close to the APC told the Nigerian Tribune that the governors had started arriving in Abuja, in readiness for the meeting scheduled for today.

One of the sources also said the meeting would discuss the possibility of sending a delegation to visit the president in London, United Kingdom (UK).

“A number of our colleagues have been bombarded with calls by concerned citizens about what they are reading on the social media about the president. It is incumbent on the NGF to take concrete steps to stabilise the situation. Remember that the forum did the same during the tenure of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua,” a source said.

“The situation needs clarifications. We can’t afford our citizens to be in the dark that is why we are meeting on Thursday,” the source said.

The Federal Government Of Nigeria on Wednesday ordered the immediate payment of the N150 billion Petroleum Equalisation Fund owed petroleum marketers in the country.

The directive, which was reportedly given at a meeting between the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, and key players in the downstream sector, sources said, would help to avert fuel scarcity which had become imminent in view of the debt owed marketers.

The money is understood to be the bridging cost for the delivery of petroleum products across the country.

Briefing newsmen, the National Secretary of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Zarma Mustapha, said:

“The meeting had nothing to do with increase in petroleum pump prices. We looked into the issue of diesel and kerosene and as a matter of fact government is tackling the issues.”

“The other issue is the issue of franchise which is the petroleum equalisation fund which marketers are owed petroleum equalisation to the tune of about 150 billion and now the issue has been resolved, the government has directed that our monies must be paid and I am assuring you that with the payment of this money there is no cause for alarm.”

“We are assuring our marketers that they should go back to their normal business as their outstanding will be paid in some few days.”

“The government has instructed the minister of finance to pay the marketers and they have assured us that they will pay and as soon as the payment is done instead of N145 per litre, it can go for as low as N140 per litre. So there should be no worries about increment of petrol.”
