DSS Invites Apostle Suleman Over ‘Inciting Comment On Fulani Herdsmen’

Featured Image

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Apostle Johnson Suleman, general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, to its headquarters in Abuja.

It is understood that the prominent cleric who is expected to appear before the secret police by 10am on Monday would be grilled with respect to the recent alleged inciting comments credited to him that Christians should defend themselves against attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

How Fayose Foiled DSS Plan To Arrest Apostle Suleiman In Ekiti

Barely two weeks ago, the controversial pastor was reported to have ordered his security aides to kill “any Fulani herdsman that comes into his church premises.”

He said this on the back of information received on a plot to assassinate him.

The development led to a ‘foiled’ – middle of the night – raid by detectives of the DSS in Ekiti State to arrest him.

DSS operatives had stormed the hotel where he lodged after a crusade, but Suleman quickly reached out to Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, who intervened on his behalf.

More details to be added as the story develops…

Simeone: Alaves Was Better Than Atletico

Featured Image

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone admits his men were outplayed after a 0-0 draw against Alaves.

Deyverson missed two great chances to get the win for the home side, with Atletico failing to impress in attack.

Atletico are plagued with injuries and suspensions, forcing Simeone to use an attacking side, but he concedes his team lacked focus.

“Alaves were superior, especially in intensity,” Simeone said after Atletico drew their third successive match in all competitions.

“It was a bad game in general. [Nico] Gaitan had the clearest chance, but the goalkeeper reacted significantly and [Yannick] Carrasco played like the whole team, we must try to improve.”

Atletico could be 10 points off top spot if Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad on Sunday, but Simeone noted the result could have been worse.

“We take a point, that is better than the game that could have been,” Simeone said.

“It was not a good match in general but we will try to improve so that the next one is better. Alaves did not surprise me because it they play this way with all the teams.”

The Age Of AK47 Pastor

The Age of AK47 Pastor, By Louis Odion

Like the proverbial stubborn grass that defies the gardener’s sickle – quick to sprout after every cut, the lexicon of public conversation has undoubtedly grown with a raft of terms and phrases since the last compilation on the page. Consistent with our tradition, we shall be undertaking an update – an induction, if you like – of the new entrants today, the first in the New Year.

This piece was written by Louis Odion. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

“To be forewarned is to be forearmed”: At normal times, the spectacle of a cleric bearing arms would appear abominable, even heretical. Lesser mortals could be forgiven if they lacked faith and surrendered to fear. Certainly not a Pastor or Reverend Father.

For the clergy to bear a rifle would, therefore, likely be interpreted as doubting God’s sovereign words to guard and protect His children, always. If the shepherd would succumb to fear, what becomes of the flock?

But these are surely abnormal times. Nothing tells the story of an emerging ecclesiastical oxymoron today, perhaps better than the image of a Reverend Father with a loaded rifle, much more ruthless AK47, slung on his shoulder ostensibly while conducting a church service, flanked by a company of soldiers in battle fatigue.

The powerful picture has been circulating on the social media in the past few weeks.

With digital clarity, it surely speaks to the palpable tension in parts of the North where Christian worshippers are increasingly coming under relentless attacks by those identified as Fulani herders but strongly suspected of harbouring darker sectarian agenda. Maybe, a counterpoise to Boko Haram’s sepulchral imagery of deranged Shekau with an AK47, against the grotesque backdrop of a black flag.

While responding to the recent killing of Christian worshippers in Southern Kaduna, the Archbishop of the Abuja Diocese, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, in what ominously signaled the hardening of position, stated that it was no longer conceivable to expect the faithful not to defend themselves henceforth.

Since the picture came un-captioned, it is difficult to tell where this happened. Regardless, its message is unmistakable: a steely determination to continue preaching the gospel in the face of mortal danger, exhorting people never to doubt God’s omni-potence in the hour of peril, never mind if the preacher’s other finger is firmly on the AK47’s trigger.

It obviously mirrors the season of danger.

…Omega Fire!: Chants of “Holy Ghost fire!” are common refrain when Christians are gathered in supplication to God Almighty in Nigeria. It is a powerful invocation of celestial forces against perceived enemies.

“Omega Fire!” surreptitiously joined the diary two days ago following the reported attempted arrest of the General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministry Worldwide by DSS operatives in Ado-Ekiti. His sin? Commanding his faithful to kill any of the murderous herdsmen that dares come close to him or the church.

Apparently, like many Christian leaders unhappy at perceived official indifference to the continued mass killings of Christians across the country, balding Apostle Johnson Suleiman had reached his own tether’s end. No longer prepared to turn the biblical other cheek, the Auchi-based cleric is now ready for “action” or “Omega Fire!”

According to media reports, but for the agility of the Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose who had graciously extended his now celebrated executive vigilante services to Pastor Suleiman, following a mere distress call to him in the small hours of Wednesday, the man of God would have been herded to DSS detention camp. (The cleric was in town on a two-day crusade.)

Like Rambo, Fayose, who once rescued the wife of a PDP chieftain in similar circumstance, stormed the hotel and personally led the Omega Fire Pastor to the safety of the Government House.

Coincidentally, in Ekiti, a stern law is already in place seeking to regulate herders’ conduct. Just as there remains a standing rule from Fayose himself expressly empowering Ekiti hunters to “kill any armed herdsmen before they kill you or rape your wives.”

To an extent, Suleiman’s threat, even if restated in Ekiti, could, therefore, be situated in the context of an exercise in self-defense against possible physical attack by the murder gang masquerading as herders. In the circumstance, we can only appeal to those with powerful voices like Suleiman to refrain from incitement to violence, out of a shared sense of civic responsibility. But that hardly absolves DSS’ glaring partisanship. Or this tendency to flex big muscles only against those who already could be described as the victims.

At this writing, DSS was yet to explain if the cleric had spurned any invitation for a “chat”. But everyone knows Suleiman’s address in Auchi, Edo State where the “inflammatory” statement was reportedly made. Why this new obsession with waylaying targets at night? Couldn’t the arrest wait till the morning? Couldn’t it, in fact, be deferred till Suleiman returned to his Auchi base?

Again, how come we hardly see this sort of “rapid response”, this razor-sharp efficiency, this fanaticism for law and order on the part of DSS elsewhere when armed herders are on their own rampage? Instead, the killer herdsmen thereafter get appeased with cash payments to “forgive” their victims.

Big puzzle indeed.

Grass-cutter: From the dawn of time, this species of rabbit has undoubtedly been the mouth-watering delight of bush-meat connoisseurs and patrons of pepper-soup joints by the street-corner. It is the wild rat, a mammoth rabbit, the jumbo-size of the regular domestic mouse house-keepers are familiar with. Perhaps more in recognition of its pre-eminence in the rabbit family than the ferocity of its canine on the grass, everyone got used to addressing this creature exclusively as “grass-cutter”.

But not after a little scandal exploded around the clearing of grass around some IDP camps in Borno and elsewhere in the North-East in which no less a political heavyweight than the Secretary to the Federal Government, the avuncular Lawal Babachir, is gravely implicated.

According to the findings of the Shehu Sani-led Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East region, Babachir allegedly helped himself to a chunk of the money paid to the firm in which he had a substantial stake before his current appointment and, worse still, is accused of being the sole signatory to its bank account until recently.

Suddenly, political adversaries and other mischief-makers have begun to see grass-cutter in a different light. So, the mere mention of grass-cutter anywhere in Aso Rock or Abuja today is now interpreted as a coded reference to the award of any murky contract.

Well, the good news is that Babachir, I am reliably informed, is hardly fazed by such side-talk, much less the outrageously malicious whisper of the uncharitable who go a step further by insisting they see some semblance between his sparse mustache and the whisker of that hunter’s favourite in the bush.

Accidental bombing: Over the years, hapless Nigerians have learnt to reconcile themselves to the reality of “accidental discharge” whenever a policeman extrajudicially shoots anyone dead. The standard official response is that, “It’s a case of accidental discharge”, a euphemism that the weapon mistakenly fired.

But when a whole fighter jet of the Nigerian Air Force chose to rain, not Manna, but bombs on a camp sheltering citizens displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency – like we witnessed at Rann in Borno State a fortnight ago, the language understandably changes to reflect the magnitude, the gravity of the catastrophe.

Acting on what turned out a false tip-off from an unnamed western power that absconding Boko Haram fighters had found a new sanctuary, the pilot supposedly on routine aerial patrol sadly ended up hitting the IDP camps not once, not twice, but – Lord – thrice!

Worse still, whereas officialdom tried to downplay the casualty figures by admitting between 50 and 57, independent sources including international relief bodies quoted figures in excess of 200.

Now, it does seem whereas police’s “accidental discharge” refers to killing of the innocent on a retail basis, “accidental bombing” describes killing of the defenseless and the traumatised on industrial scale.

God save us!

Jammeh: If mortal fear had gripped many quarters – both high and low – at the height of the recent political face-off in The Gambia, the reason was undoubtedly partly a reading of the name of her now disgraced dictator. The word “jam” surely conjures less-than-pleasant imageries. In street parlance, “to jam” means “to hit” something. To “jam wahala” connotes serious kerfuffle. Any motorist in an urban centre will, for instance, attest that “traffic jam” is no pleasant experience.

So, when a power-drunk dictator began to beat war-drums frantically and his name is derived from stressing “jam” to become “Jammeh”, the trepidation in the hearts of ordinary mortals could then only be imagined.

But history teaches us that most bullies and braggarts are in reality cowards seeking to hide their dark inadequacies in some coarse facade. Yahya Jammeh turned out to be no exception.

As they say, those who made a career of beheading others will hardly continue to sit easy at the sight of a sword-wielding stranger. Surrounded by ECOWAS’ far superior weapons of mass destruction, the brutal Jammeh, who had ruled the tiny West African country with an iron fist for 22 years, finally surrendered last Saturday. But not until huge costs had been incurred by Nigeria and others in mobilising thousands of battle-ready troops and dozens of fighter jets to Gambia’s shores.

Dramatically, not a single bullet was fired before the emperor finally fell.

So, the word “Jammeh” is now generally accepted as a synonym for empty boast or needless clowning. To play a Jammeh is to squander the altar of glory and instead offer oneself for international ignominy.

(Meanwhile, whereas there are conflicting accounts on the actual number of luxury super cars taken and the quantity of cash looted in his last two weeks in power, a lie has been put to the claim that a cargo of $11 million was physically hurled into the private jet that ferried Jammeh from Banjul that Saturday night to an uncertain fate. Out of rare magnanimity, Nigeria’s Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had allowed his jet to be used to finally break the 48-hour stand-off.)

FRC code: Movie aficionados will certainly recall the American epic entitled The Da Vinci Code. The 2006 thriller explores ancient Christian mythology which the Roman Catholic establishment found too outlandish, if not outrightly blasphemous.

In the circumstance, the more controversial a work of art is, the higher its chances of commercial success. Little wonder then that it netted a whopping $224 million worldwide in its first weekend of premier and proceeded to gross a hefty $758 by the turn of 2006.

Eleven years later, a milder variant of The Da Vinci Code would seem to assail the Christian community in Nigeria and bears a more cryptic acronym, the FRC Code.

In principle, the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) code expressly seeks to compel heads of not-for-profit bodies, including religious organisations, to be more transparent in the rendition of their financial records.

But portions considered “intrusive” and “offensive” by the leaders of the Pentecostal sector of the Christian community, include those that prescribe term and age limits for their General Overseers. With the charismatic G.O of the most populous RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, dramatically tendering his resignation, thereby volunteering himself as the “martyr” of the protest against the FRC code, sectarian tempers naturally flared up across the country.

Jim Obaze, the rambunctious executive secretary of FRC, was the next casualty as he was booted out unceremoniously by President Buhari, with the enforcement of the code suspended entirely.

Soon, a new twist entered the narrative when the vocal Pastor Tunde Bakare, head of the Latter Rain Assembly and by no means an influential voice in the Pentecostal community, weighed in forcefully in defense of the FRC code, sensationally squealing that those preaching against it were actually money-launderers scared of the law and afraid of losing access to easy money.

Ever since, funereal silence has descended on the entire FRC business. The last time the issue popped up among some top players in the Pentecostal district in Lagos, one account quoted a prominent Pastor as reducing every thing to a joke by likening the FRC Code to an attempt to tamper with his own “stomach infrastructure”.

It was needless seeking any confirmation, to avoid further trouble.

Alternative facts: Anyone still doubting the power in a name should consider the example of Sean Spicer, the chief spokesman of the newly inaugurated President Donald Trump of the United States. Still wallowing in the triumphalism that has defined the Trump camp generally since their shock victory in the last November 8 polls, Spicer was all fire in his maiden press conference at the White House last Saturday.

However, what became news after that outing was not his hauteur nor the fact that he chose not to answer questions to his rather tempestuous briefing in what seemed a continuation of Trump’s self-declared “running war” with the media. Fresh dust was raised by his rather sensational claim that the crowd that witnessed his boss’ inauguration on January 20 was “the largest in history”.

Ah!

But trust CNN not to take the line, hook and sinker in the circumstance. The sheer ugliness of that fat lie was soon exposed when the popular global TV channel flashed an over-view of the audience at the epochal Washington event. With the many empty patches in the broad canvass, it was crystal clear Trump and Spicer had, as usual, sexed things up.

Trust CNN still, another of Trump’s spin doctors, Ms. Kellyanne Conway, was soon cornered shortly afterwards on the same issue. In a moment of costly verbal indiscretion (mental exhaustion?) on a live programme, she cautioned the CNN corespondent not to “over-dramatise” Spicer’s comment, defending that her colleague was simply “giving the alternative fact”.

Like shark smelling blood, CNN thereafter made a sing-song of “alternative fact” for the rest of the day. Forty-eight hours later, it was an evidently subdued Spicer who showed up at another world press conference with a new spin. Clearing his throat, he clarified that his theory of “the biggest audience” actually referred to those physically “present and watching across the world”.

Ah!

Well, perhaps the joke is actually on the rest of us. From the mere intimation of his name, it would completely be out of character if Spicer did not “spice” things from the outset.

Many thanks to Conway, “alternative fact” should henceforth serve as further annotation to “post truth” – a new word added to the English lexicon in 2016. Roughly put, post-truth refers to circumstances when the reality does not correlate with the objective facts.

Ancelotti: Deserved Win For Bayern Despite Tough Test From Bremen

Featured Image

Carlo Ancelotti admits the match against Werder Bremen was their toughest this season, but Bayern deserved to win.

Bayern went ahead by two goals in the first half, with Robben’s fine finish and Alaba’s stunning freekick helping them get the win, despite a Max Kruse goal in the second half.

The defending champions are top of the table and three points clear of RB Leipzig and Ancelotti is happy to have gotten the win.

“It was difficult, but we deserved it,” he said. “We got into some problems after the [Bremen] goal.

“Werder played very well, especially in the second half, but there are always difficulties during a season.”

Robben, meanwhile, felt Bayern should have been much more dominant after establishing their two-goal lead, rather than allow the struggling hosts a way back into the game.

He added: “If you go 2-0 up then it must be game over.

“Bremen put us under more pressure in the second half, playing even more to the front, but then it has to be easier as more space is created for us.

“We have to play much better with more control of possession. If we had done, it could have actually been 3-0 or 4-0. Even in the first half we allowed too many counter attacks, so there is still a lot to improve. ”

Bayern are back in action against Schalke at the Allianz Arena next Saturday.

Nigerian Govt Approves $1.2bn For Kano-Kaduna Railway Project

Featured Image

The Federal Government has approved $1.2 billion for the construction of the Kano-Kaduna standard gauge railway project.‎

Nigeria Pays N72 Billion To China For Lagos-Ibadan Railway Project

The Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, made this known in Kano on Saturday when he visited Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje.

He added that the Federal Government was negotiating with China EXIM bank to finance the project.‎

“We are negotiating with China EXIM bank and we are convince that this negotiation will end by June,” he said.

The minister said that the Federal Government would provide about 100 locomotives for narrow gauge rail that would run through Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Funtua and Gombe to improve the economy.

“Before the end of June Lagos-Kano narrow gauge rail would have more locomotives that would run through Lagos, Port Harcourt, Funtua, Kano and Gombe states in order to boost the economy,” he said.

Amaechi, however, thanked the governor for his efforts and the role he played during the last National Assembly election in Rivers where the party won one senatorial seat and four House of representative seats.

Responding, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed his happiness and commended the president for fulfilling his campaign promise.‎

He said that Kano-Kaduna standard rail project would save the road from total collapse.

Ganduje said that the state government recently signed a $1.8 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese firm to construct light rail in the state capital.

Enrique Hits Back At Barcelona Critics

Featured Image

Luis Enrique has stated he will not be overexcited by the current struggles being face by Real Madrid , a week after they went through one of their own.

Madrid have only one win in their last five games in all competitions, and while it has not affected their title aspirations.

Barcelona have won five successive matches and have reduced the gap to two on the table.

He told a news conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Real Betis: “It’s amazing how you guys [in the press] change your opinions. A few weeks ago it was as if it was a disaster [for Barcelona].

“We try to keep a level head. There is a long time to go this season. Of course all managers like winning runs, especially for big teams; we need to get runs together. We are having one and hopefully it will continue. But there are teams ahead of us so we need to keep winning.

“Obviously for Barcelona or Madrid to triumph [in the league] then you need the other team to struggle, that’s what happens when things are tight between you.
“But we can only control our game. I go back to what I said earlier, there’s a long time to go and let’s not overdramatise things. At the end of the season we see how each team has done, who has the most points.”

The coach expects Barca’s resurgence to be put under the microscope at Betis.

“It is a different team to the one we played earlier in the season,” he added. “They’ve had a change of manager – [Gus] Poyet played here with five defenders and that’s not normal for them.

“They’re adapting to Victor [Sanchez]’s new system, they don’t play the same system as before. The fans are behind them and they are a team on the rise at the moment. They will cause us plenty of problems.

“Our idea is to go to win three points – that’s all we can do. It really doesn’t make sense to focus on other teams if you don’t win your own games.”

Klopp: Liverpool Can’t Get Any Lower

Featured Image

Liverpool have crashed out of two cup competitions in the space of three days and Jurgen Klopp believes they can’t get any lower.

Liverpool lost 2-1 to Wolves in the FA Cup after losing to Southampton in the carling cup semifinal.

Klopp took full responsibility for the loss. It is the first time he has lost three games in a row. With Chelsea coming up on Tuesday.

“If someone asks if this is the lowest point of my Liverpool time until now, I don’t know,” he said. “But if it is it is a perfect moment to turn because it is not possible to go lower.

“I don’t think it is the right time to talk about being positive or optimistic. In this moment we feel really bad. It is absolutely right that it feels bad and we have to use it in this moment.”

“I am responsible and I feel really responsible for this performance, because I thought we could do better, obviously.

“We have to think about this. Not too long, but we have to think about this. You learn, always, about situations and players and all that stuff in all games.

Cross River State To Launch New Airline And Shipping Line

Featured Image

The Cross River State government has apparently completed plans to float its own airline as well as a shipping line, as part of efforts to increase revenue and lower dependence on federal allocation.

Speaking to reporters in Calabar, the State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade said the state was taking full advantage of its huge tourism potentials and maritime resources by going into both airline and maritime services.

The governor explained that the airline known as Cally Air is expected to transport tourists from all over Nigeria to the beautiful tourist sites dotted across the state, particularly the famous Obudu Ranch Resort and the shipping line would concentrate primarily on cargo services, especially along the shoreline of the Gulf of Guinea.

Governor Ayade said “Cross River State is only taking full advantage of its huge maritime resources by focusing on maritime trading particularly, cabotage services by providing merchant vessels that will ply the Gulf of Guinea and provide services to countries along this shoreline.

“In our 2017 budget, there is a provision for a merchant vessel that will provide maritime businesses with Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon and the entire stretch of the shoreline.

“There is another provision for Wharf landing and other support services. So, we are also going to have a fabrication yard and other allied maritime services as we refocus on broadening the maritime sector in the state”.

Justifying his government’s decision to venture into maritime services, Professor Ayade reasoned that with the maritime trade and connectivity along the region, his administration was confident that the return on the investment would definitely be huge and it’ll contribute to the budget of infinite transposition.

“Our vessels are already berthing in Calabar as part of investment in 2017 because we are establishing business outlays in some West and Central African countries dealing mostly on petroleum products and because Cross River State is looking at an aggregate of driving an industrialised, business-like module for governance, soon, you will see us go into full time trading. That is why in our budget, we have budgeted about 14 billion Naira to expand investment in this direction to the Gambia,” the Governor explained.

This announcement comes two days after the Imo State government announced the arrival of it’s first aircraft as the state plans to kickstart the Imo State commercial airline, Imo Air.Cross River is announcing its plan two days after Imo State government said it had taken delivery of the first aircraft, to kick start, as the first state owned commercial airline, Imo Air.

During the official launch of the new airline at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo airport in Owerri, the Imo state capital, the Governor Rochas Okorocha said the investment by the state government would boost economic activities in the state.

He added that it would increase the state Internally Generated Revenue and also generate employment opportunities for teaming unemployed youths in the state.

#BBNaija Day 5: Uriel Explains Her Failure To Save Kemen

Featured Image

Uriel was elected the head of house and she has so far being able to hold her head up high and maintain peace and orderliness in the #BBNaija house.

Things however became emotional for her on day 5 as she seemed to feel a bit of guilt for failing to save Kemen, who has been helping her with her Fitness regimen from a ‘false’ eviction list which all the housemates are unaware of.

Being the Head of house, Uriel had the privilege and the opportunity to save any housemate that caught her fancy among the five nominated for eviction.

Despite the privilege she had, she chose to save Miyonse and have him replaced with Marvis as opposed to saving Kemen whom she has a relationship with.

Uriel appeared to feel guilty about not saving Kemen and had a private conversation with him about it while also talking about his nomination for eviction after the morning workout.

She started out by telling Kemen that she knows he’s not fond of her but that she appreciated the fact that he’s able to take charge and be the dominant man.

ICYMI: #BBNaija: Meet The Big Brother Nigeria 2017 Contestants

She also told him that she knows he’s not going anywhere.

Uriel then went on to put his mind at ease the best way she could by telling him that her gut instincts seem to tell her that she knows the whole nomination thing was a ruse by following the words of Biggie that stated that it was a possible eviction not a definite one.

She finished up by assuring Kemen that he will remain in the #BBNaija house along with everyone else. Kemen used the opportunity to tell her about his personal struggles, while also letting her know that he has a thing for her.

It’s however an open secret to everyone following #BBNaija except the housemates that big brother is in no way planning an eviction but will instead be bringing in two more persons to join the housemates.

It is left to be seen how the housemates react to the prank Biggie played on them after their endless campaign to remain in the house.

All and more will be It will be revealed on Sunday night.

BBNaija Day 5: Of Ferrari Deaths And House Parties

Featured Image

The first week is gradually winding down for the housemates in the BBNaija, and Biggie has provided a way and reason for them to relieve their anxieties and boredom by having the first house party in the 24-hour camera surveillance big brother Nigeria 2017 house.

All the house mates spent their fourth day in the house decorating and organising the party room as suggested by Biggie in preparation for the house house party.

The essence was to make the house look as elegant and beautiful as possible even as the show that will be holding later today will have celebrity DJ Spinall churning out the music.

As was the rules in the previous edition of the big brother Nigeria and big brother Africa shows, the housemates will be placed on surveillance all through the party and will not be allowed to press any design materials on the camera windows or alter any of the standing requirements in the party room.

Meanwhile, Tboss seemed to have ignited a frenzy on social media after her revelations in the house about losing her fiance, some eight years ago in a car accident that involved the said fiance’s automobile.

Tboss related the news during a discussion with some of the house mates but a lot of people think the news should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The reason for this may be the fact that she claims to be 23 years old and if she truly lost her fiancé eight years ago, it would mean she was barely fifteen years as at that time.

A lot of fans of the show think she lied and practically craves and wants attention as few are even ready to believe the fact that she has the seven tattoos and piercings she touted from the onset of the #BBNaija show.

Five Star Music Issue Official Statement Regarding Harrysong’s Arrest

Featured Image

The management of Five Star Music has released an official statement titled ‘Enough is Enough’ regarding Harrysong’s arrest and contract dispute.

Harrysong was arrested by police on Friday Morning on the order of the record label and taken to the state’s Assistant Inspector General who’s in charge of the case between both parties.

According to reports, Harrysong’s three-year contract with Five Star Music was to expire this month, January 2017. However, he left the group in November 2016 and announced his own label, Alterplate. The Five Star Music management are now citing claims of fraud and breach of contract against Harrysong.

Read their full statement below:

‘Sometime in 2008 when Mr. Harry first approached our record label for a music contract, we immediately declined the request when we found out that he had a subsisting contract with one Mr. Kevin Luciano of ‘Question Mark Entertainment Label’. All efforts then by Mr. Harry to influence our management proved abortive as our position was maintained on grounds of equity, fairness and professionalism.

‘For further avoidance of doubts on the true facts of the present situation, our management has decided to officially set the records straight, because of negative and pervasive influence being foisted on the psyche of our numerous and well meaning fans.

‘1. Our first encounter with Mr. Harry was sometime in 2008 when he approached our management for a music contract. As stated above, according to our findings at that time, his contract with ‘Question Mark Entertainment Record Label’ was still subsisting and valid. Obviously we declined when we found out that Mr. Harry’s plans were ill orchestrated against his employers, by walking out on them without fulfilling the obligations clearly contained in his running contract with them.

‘2. When Harry’s employers (Question Mark Entertainment) got wind of his frantic efforts to desert his contract, a stern and official public statement was issued against Mr. Harry and a certain clause establishing his existing contract was clearly published for full consumption by the general public.

3a.    The tussle continued between Harry and his employers till sometime in 2014 when Harry once again approached us, this time very desperate. We opened preliminary discussions with him but demanded an official document from his former employers relieving him of any obligation or liability with regards to his contract with them.

‘3b.    Our move to do things right and professionally with Mr. Harry earned us a Twenty Million Naira Legal Suit (N20,000,000.00) from Mr. Kevin Luciano of Question Mark Entertainment (Records are there for confirmation). We were joined as co-defendants with Mr. Harry.

‘Juxtaposing the above with what is going on now, it is quite unfortunate because “Good intentions counts as much as good actions, and the person seeking to do good is as good as someone who actually does it.

‘3c. Knowing the vulnerability of Mr. Harry on the impending legal suit, we solicited the help of certain well respected individuals in the Music industry to wade into the matter, one of which was our dear veteran Daddy Showkey. Mr. Luciano having found out our intention from inception to act in good faith, agreed to withdraw his suit against Mr. Harry and our company BUT, not without consequential and settlement fees of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000.00records available for verification).

‘We paid this amount solely without Mr. Harry contributing a dime!

‘4. It is often said that “When people sense that someone else is vulnerable, they tend to attack, for when the calf falls, the knives come out”. However, in Mr. Harry’s vulnerable situation, we did nothing of the sort. Rather, we wholeheartedly bought all his liability off Question Mark Entertainment Label, and welcomed him as a family into Five Star Music Label, a genuine gesture and decision we are all regretting this present day.

‘5. Because we are known for running our affairs professionally and legally, we signed a three year contract with Mr. Harry and certain conditions and obligations were specifically and properly spelled out apart from the terms of the contract. Most important of these were his obligations to our Music Label, which amongst others include:

  1. That he must deliver at least, three (3) full music albums on or before the expiration of the first term of his three year contract, otherwise the label solely reserves the right either to rescind or extend the contract. These conditions were never met.
  2. While in the employment of the Five Star Music Label, he must not engage himself in anyway whatsoever, whether directly, by proxy or through a third party in any Music or recording business other than that of Five Star Music. This condition was also repeatedly breached as Mr. Harry has been releasing music, going on tours locally and internationally without our consent or paying the agreed percentage to the label.

‘6. Five Star Music wishes to state categorically that this reckless breach of contract by Mr. Harry stands contrary to our company’s work ethics and will therefore be pursued to a logical conclusion using the full instrument of the law.

‘In setting the records straight, let it be known that before now, the label refrained from instituting any legal actions against him for his blatant breach of contract, just because he was still considered as part of Five Star Music family. However, his posture as clearly manifested through his lawyers whom have continued to write and make all kinds of assertions and threats to the label necessitated our immediate response for the general public to know the truth and inherent facts of the story. For it is said, that facts speaks for themselves.

‘We therefore advice the general public to tread with caution and desist from transacting any business with Mr. Harry Tare Okri, as same is both illegal and a total breach of his existing contract with our record Label, ‘Five Star Music Label’. Notwithstanding what propaganda he feeds the public, we further advice that proper verifications are made from us, as there is no iota of truth emanating therefrom.

‘Signed

Prominent British actor John Hurt, famous as the face of The Elephant Man and wandmaker Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter movies, has died at 77.

His agent, Charles McDonald, told the Associated Press he died Friday in London.

It was learnt that the two-time Oscar nominee (for Midnight Express and The Elephant Man), whose career spanned over six decades, had battled with both cancer and an intestinal complaint in recent years.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth the same year for his contributions to drama.

Survived by his wife of 12 years, Anwen Rees-Myers, he recently starred as a priest in the Oscar nominated biopic of President John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, currently showing in cinemas.

Meanwhile, tributes have started to flood in for the screen legend with David Walliams, J.K Rowling and Jamie Curtis paying their respects.

Also paying tribute to Sir John was Mel Brooks, executive producer of “The Elephant Man”.

He tweeted that he was a “truly magnificent talent.”

“No one could have played The Elephant Man more memorably. He carried that film into cinematic immortality. He will be sorely missed,” he added.

Stephen Fry added: “Oh no. What terrible news. We’ve lost JohnHurt as great on the stage, small screen and big.

“A great man & great friend of Norfolk & NCFC”

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose wrote: “RIP John Hurt “Archibald u speak! One must never underestimate the healing power of hatred!” Montrose in Rob Roy”

Actor Chris Evans added: “John Hurt was one of the most powerful, giving, and effortlessly real actors I’ve ever worked with. Remarkable human being. U will be missed”

Mandzukic: Juventus Yet To Achieve Anything

Featured Image

Mario Mandzukic has told Juventus they’re yet to achieve anything despite a good run of results, seeing as they’re yet to win anything.

Juventus are close to claiming an historic treble, as they top the Serie A table, and are still in the Coppa Italia and also in the running for the UCL.

“Everything has been going really well so far. We are top of the league in Italy, through to the next round in the Champions League and now in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, so I am happy with how things are going,” he told Sky.

“That said, there is a long way still to go and we have to keep up the good work because we have not achieved anything yet and we can play even better than we already are doing. If we do that, we can achieve the goals we have set ourselves.

“Juventus are a big club and of course everyone expects us to win every game, besides always playing brilliantly, but we know that is not always possible. If we have our critics, we should not ever be worried about them. We just have to do our jobs on the pitch.

“When we do lose, we know how to pick ourselves up again in the next game, as we have shown several times before and we will keep doing it.”

Juve, who reached the Champions League final in 2014-15, losing 3-1 to Barcelona in Berlin, face Porto in this season’s round of 16, with a trip to Sassuolo in Serie A coming up on Sunday.

Grant Says Conte’s Arrival Was Perfect And Defends Mourinho

Featured Image

Avram Grant has stated that Conte arrived at Chelsea at the perfect time and insists Mourinho is neither a genius nor is he useless.

The Italian manager arrived at Chelsea in the summer and has opened an eight points lead at the top of the table.

Conte came in after a poor 2015-16 season for Chelsea, which saw Mourinho sacked a second time at the club.

Grant, in charge at the club in 2007-08, said the timing was ideal for former Juventus coach Conte.

“Conte came at the right time. The players were ready for the change and wanted the change,” the Ghana boss said via The Guardian.

“With a lot of respect to Jose, I didn’t like that the media said he was the king of the world and a genius — he was not — and he’s not so useless like they are saying about him now.

“He’s a good coach, with problems like any other person.”

Grant felt the 47-year-old made an early mistake in England, but corrected quickly enough after a poor start.

“I think he started to please the supporters. He played 4-4-2 and he’d never played like this in his life — I’ve followed his whole career,” he said.

“He played three at the back with Juventus and had very good results in Italy. He came to Chelsea and changed. Don’t change your personality.

“There are coaches who can play different systems, like Alex Ferguson. Conte, [Arsene] Wenger, their style of play will not change and it’s not good for them to change because maybe they don’t know another system.

“I think the best thing to happen to Chelsea was that they lost 3-0 to Arsenal — then he came back to his roots and they play a system that is also good for their players.”

Drake To Host And Produce First Annual NBA Awards

Featured Image
Canadian Hip-hop star Drake has revealed that he’ll be hosting and producing the first NBA Awards show this year.

Speaking on Basketball Coach John Calipari’s “Cal Cast” podcast, the Grammy award winner  said

“I’m actually producing and hosting the first annual NBA Awards this year. I get to take the reigns on it.

The ESPYs let me do great things, and I thank them a lot for that. Usually award shows sometimes are a bit restricted, but they let me do a lot at the ESPYs, so we’ll just expand on that concept.

I love hosting. I love being in a room full of iconic, legendary people that I look up to and having that pressure of having to make them laugh and enjoy their evening.”

The rapper, who is the Toronto Raptors global ambassador, also has experience as the MC of awards telecasts as he hosted the Juno Awards in 2011 and the ESPY Awards in 2015. Add that to his often publicized love for the NBA, and NBA reporter Doris Burke, and his relationship with so many players, the Toronto entertainer is likely the best fit.

We’ll just have to wait and see how well he does with full control over the event.

The first annual NBA Awards Show will take place on June 26, and will unveil the winners of the league’s top awards, including MVP, Most Improved Player, Rookie Of The Year, and more.

Nadal: It Is Quite Special To Face Federer Again

Featured Image

Rafael Nadal has admitted it will be a special experience to once again face Roger Federer at the final of a Grand Slam.

Nadal overcame Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 6-4 in four hours and 56 minutes to get to the final.

The win will see the 14-time Grand Slam champion face a familiar foe in Federer, in what will be their ninth Grand Slam final across from the net.

Nadal leads Federer 6-2 at Grand Slam finals and 3-0 at the Australian Open.

“No, that was a long time ago. It’s a different match, different moment for both of us. I think this match is completely different than what happened before,” Nadal said.

“It’s special to play with Roger again in a final of a Grand Slam. I cannot lie, it’s great.

“It’s exciting for me and for both of us that we are still there and we still fighting for important events. So that’s important for us, I think.

He added: “I hope to be ready to compete well again. I need to go back to the hotel, to rest well, and to recover from now.”
