Barcelona Confirm Signature Of Teenage Defender Santiago Bueno From Penarol

Featured Image

Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Uruguayan starlet Santiago Bueno from Penarol, the La Liga champions have confirmed.

The centre back, 18, has signed on at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2019, although there is an option to stay for a further three seasons after that.

Reports in Catalonia claim Barca will pay an initial fee of €1 million. Penarol will also retain 20 percent of the centre-back’s rights and could receive another €5m based on the number of first team appearances he may go on to make.

Speaking to Uruguayan radio station Sport 890, the player’s agent Pablo Boselli said: “It is the result of two years of work. They (Barcelona) determined that Santiago has qualities and projection similar to those of [Gerard] Pique.

“Technically he is very good and he is intelligent to move around on the pitch, factors that led to Barcelona making a concrete offer to Penarol.”

“Barcelona and CA Penarol have reached an agreement for the transfer of Santiago Bueno,” a statement from the club read on Tuesday.

“The player will be a Barca player until June 30, 2019, with the option of three additional seasons.

“The Uruguayan defender is currently taking part in the South American Youth Championship with his country. When his participation in the tournament ends, he will join up with the Blaugrana.”

Costa: Brazil Looking To Win 2018 World Cup

Featured Image

Douglas Costa is looking to win the 2018 World Cup and thinks Brazil are in good shape under Tite.

Tite took charge of Brazil after the sacking of Dunga and they sit four points clear of Uruguay on the South American World Cup qualifying.

The Selecao have won six straight qualifying games since Tite took over and they’ll have the confederations cup in Russia to prepare for the World Cup.

“I think after the new coach came in, he made big changes and the team grew up,” the winger told Omnisport.

“Now we are in a sensational way and we have to continue with this form until 2018 in Russia to maybe win the world title.

“This is in the plan which I have for my career and my life, to one day win the Champions League and the World Cup.”

Brazil have two qualifiers in March, away to Uruguay before a home match against Paraguay.

Hearn: Brook Gearing Up For Errol Spence Jr

Featured Image

Eddie Hearn has stated that his fighter is preparing to defend his IBF title against Errol Spence Jr and has placed major doubts on a fight against Amir Khan.

The negotiations for a Brook-Khan fight fell through last month. However Hearn is hoping for a domestic clash this year.

Brook is expected to defend his IBF welterweight title against mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr.

“We’ve talked about it for three years. I just don’t think Amir wants the fight,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “I don’t think he wants to lose to Kell Brook and it’s a 50-50 fight.

“It’s one thing losing to ‘Canelo’, but it’s another thing losing to Brook, a guy from your country, who he has a huge grudge with, but he’s going to make a career-best purse.

“For me, it just seems ridiculous, and it frustrates me that they can’t seem to apply common sense to the situation. For that fact, I can only think that they don’t actually want the fight.”

“I want him to move to 154lbs, he doesn’t want to vacate his title, so if he doesn’t vacate his title, he has to fight Errol Spence,” said Hearn.

“It’s a big fight, but it’s a tough fight. I just feel like why be in the fights that are as tough as that when you’re going to deplete yourself and take away some of your advantages.

“We’ve got a meeting on Friday and we will make our decision then. It looks like Errol Spence next. At this stage 70-80 per cent [likely].”

Hazard: Only Manchester United And Arsenal Are Our Title Rivals

Featured Image

Chelsea midfielder, Eden Hazard believes only Manchester United and Arsenal are the only title rivals Chelsea have.

Chelsea are currently top of the table and nine points clear of Tottenham and Arsenal, with United a further six points back in sixth.

And even though Liverpool and Manchester City are in the mix, Hazard believes United have the experience to challenge.

“I think Arsenal and Manchester United [are the biggest title rivals],” he told Sky Sports .

“United had a bad first part of the season and I think for a couple of games now, they played well.

“They drew against Stoke, but they have good players and the squad is very good. The manager is good, so they will be second or third.

“Tottenham also are strong. We lost there, but for me it is more Manchester United. They are more experienced. That is my opinion, maybe I’m wrong.”

2Face Issues Statement On Planned Protest | States Reasons Behind The Crusade

Featured Image

Nigerian prominent singer, Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Face or 2Baba, has issued an official statement with respect to his planned nationwide protest; stating reasons for the demonstration.

In the statement, which was issued on Tuesday, the African Queen crooner said that “the people have hoped for a better Nigeria since 1999 but things are not getting any better for the majority. We are still where we are – poor and desperate. I will no longer be quiet”

It is also learnt that the he has rescheduled the date from February 5, to 6, 2017.

Read statement below:

Hello my fellow Nigerians…

Since the idea of a nationwide march was first mentioned, the need for urgent solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians has become very clear. The people have hoped for a better Nigeria since 1999 but things are not getting any better for the majority. We are still where we are – poor and desperate. I will be no longer be quiet.

I want to thank EiE, The 2face Foundation, numerous colleagues and countless fellow Nigerians for stepping up to partner with me. I am just a musician with a point of view and the ear of my fans.

I have dedicated my time and resources to peace building, voter education towards peaceful elections and youth engagement in governance in Nigeria. This time around, my partners, colleagues and I have come together to present a platform for real Nigerians to communicate their real pains to government at all levels in a peaceful and articulate manner with a view to getting lasting solutions to our problems.

This march is about demanding that all saboteurs of good government policies should hands off.
This march is about encouraging positive minded Nigerians to continue to work without intimidation.
We have a system that is clearly designed not to work for the majority.

What is this march not about?
It is not a platform for politicians of any party to manipulate. I know you will still spin it but for one second leave your battles aside and just listen to people without trying to score cheap political points against one another. It is not a point scoring exercise. It is certainly not personal.

It is not an organized labour platform. With all due respect to our comrades who have done much for Nigeria, this march is for the unrepresented.

It is not a ‘my religion or tribe is better than yours’ matter. All our blood is red.

I, Innocent Idibia, am a living example of a Nigerian who owes their success to Nigerians of every tribe and religion. None ask what religion or tribe I am before supporting me. I am grateful.
Therefore, it is with every sense of humility that I say that with this march, I want:

1) Security
All Nigerians’ lives MUST matter. My religion, ethnicity or what part of the country I live shouldn’t determine the type of protection I get from my government.
According to the Constitution, ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.’

2) Education
To develop beyond oil, we have to invest in our human capital. Every child must have access to quality education. If our teachers are not paid, how will we raise the next generation to lead the country and run our businesses?

3) Health
Health is wealth. People die daily from lack of basic, affordable health care. We can definitely do better.

4) Power
Government needs to make it easier to generate power at the state and local government level so everything is not tied to the center. We need electricity to be productive. The cost of generating our own power is crippling.

5) Unemployment
Poor education plus a struggling economy means a lot of people are unemployed. Unemployed people are hungry and angry.

6) High cost of living
Food, transportation, medicine, everything is 3 times, 4 times more expensive but our salaries haven’t increased. What do we do

7) Social Justice
According to the Constitution, ‘The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a State based on the principles of democracy and social justice.’
There cannot be one set of rules for the poor and another set for the rich.

Transparency
The best way to kill corruption is to increase transparency. Government finances and contracts must be open and available to all. Who got the money, to do what and by when?

9) Cost of government
Our governance is TOO expensive – federal, state, local – cars, housing, allowances. We must reduce the cost of maintaining our public officials

10) Patriotism
I stand with Nigeria. There is enough in Nigeria for all of us to ‘chop belleful’. Enough is enough. We must put Nigeria first and keep all the greedy & selfish people away from leadership.

Call to Action
Between now and Monday, February 6, I ask you to share via videos, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, SMS to 0902-355-5335. How are these issues affecting you? What are your daily struggles? How is it doing you? No matter what part of the world you are, I encourage you to share your stories. And join me on Monday in Surulere or online

Use any of the hashtags #IStandWith2Baba #IStandWithNigeria #OneVoiceNigeria on social media.
We will take all the reports and send them to our elected representatives as ONE VOICE of Nigerians across party, ethnic and religious lines – as they hear real people talk about real issues.

On Monday, February 6, meet me at the National Stadium at 8AM and we’ll walk to the National Theatre – 2 national icons that epitomize our decline – as we state clearly and peacefully that #IStandWithNigeria and Nigeria must work for all of us and all of us must work for Nigeria.

M’Vila, 26, played on a regular basis for Sunderland last term in the Premier League.

Keylor Navas Motivated By Reprts Linking David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois To Real Madrid

Featured Image

Real Madrid’s No 1 Keylor Navas admits he is motivated by speculation linking the likes of David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois with a move to the Bernabeu.

The 30-year-old, who is under contract until 2020, has impressed since being handed an extended run in the first team, but reports from Spain claim Madrid will spend big on a goalkeeper this summer, with Courtois and De Gea reportedly on their shortlist.

When quizzed on how he feels about speculation linking other ‘keepers with the club, Navas told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: “They motivate me. The best play here and if I am at Madrid is because they think that I am among the best.

“If another arrives, I would not think about giving up. I can learn from him like I do with [Kiko] Casilla and [Ruben] Yanez. I also learn from De Gea on the TV, and from Courtois, from Buffon, from everyone.”

I know there are many things out of my control, but I will fight hard for the things that I can control.

“I want to be here for many years. I am relaxed about it all. I would love to retire here at Madrid. To be here is a blessing, a privilege and a responsibility.”

Navas was not keen to talk too much about the day he almost joined United in a swap deal with De Gea, but said that it had all worked out pretty well with Madrid winning the Champions League at the end of that season.

“I have already spoken enough about that,” he said. “The only thing I remember is I told my wife that what God wants to happen will happen, and I am not going to worry about anything. Now I am fulfilling my dream of playing at the best club in the world, training every day at Valdebebas … It was an incredible year, and we won the Champions League. I could not ask for more from my life.”

The UNTOLD: Apostle Suleman, Tale Of How A Cultist Became A Fiery Prophet

Featured Image

The fiery founder and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, is arguably one of the most talked about persons this year in Nigeria – a country, where religious schism and ethnocentrism have continuously gorged hard to the abysmal depth of moral sanity.

The outspoken prophet gained prominence earlier last month after a video – that went viral – surfaced where he revealed that he had ordered his security aides to kill any herdsman found around his church premises.

DSS Releases Apostle Johnson Suleman

The inciting comment was met with outrage from a section of Nigerians in the social media community.

Apparently unwilling to cringe or cower to the backlashes that ensued after the comment, Apostle Suleman averred that he made the remark on the back of information received on a plot to assassinate him.

The development led to a ‘foiled’ – middle of the night – raid by detectives of the DSS in Ekiti State to arrest him.

DSS operatives had stormed the hotel where he lodged after a crusade, but Suleman quickly reached out to Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, who intervened on his behalf.

Subsequently, the premier agency invited him, and he honoured the invitation, after which he commended the security operatives for their “professionalism

In a detailed report, The Cable reveals to us some of the things we probably did not know about the fiery prophet.

He Was Born Into A Home Of Parents Practising Different Religions

He was born in Benin, capital of Edo state. The date of birth of the preacher nicknamed: ‘The Oracle’, is unknown. His father was a Muslim, while his mother, a Christian. According to information available on his church’s website, some prophets came from Warri in Delta state to Benin a few days after he was born. They were said to have come with a message from God, and the message was that a prophet who would minister in God’s presence had been born.

His father rejected the message because as a Muslim, he did not see the possibility of his son leaving the fold. His parents disagreed on a number of issues, which eventually led to their separation.

DSS Vs Apostle Suleman: Let The Truth Be Told

He Joined An Occultic Group

The separation of his parents had a negative effect on him later in life. Suleman said the craze for acceptance made him take to cultism.

DSS Reportedly Releases Apostle Johnson Suleiman
DSS Reportedly Releases Apostle Johnson Suleman

“I was a dignified cultist. I am from a home of separated parents. My parents had some issues. Any child from a home like that is bound to fall into the streets,” he said.

“So, I got into school and I wanted acceptance somewhere. Someone told me that there is something called brotherhood and that I would be accepted as a family member and I liked it. I didn’t know there was a beating part and being taken to the bush.

“I didn’t like that. But you have to go into it. What I always avoided then was the assignments. I was just like a floor member. I would go to meetings and when assigned to do something and I couldn’t, I had to look for someone to do it and pay for it. I was not really happy but I was there.”

In an interview with Encomium, Suleman spoke on how his mother, a retired police officer, tried to instill discipline in him and his siblings.

“My mother laid down the rule that you must be home by 6 pm. If you come home at 7pm, she would open the door for you. Then, she was in the police force,” he said.

How Fayose Foiled DSS Plan To Arrest Apostle Suleiman In Ekiti

“She would open the door and spray teargas into the room. That’s where you’d be locked up and you’d be battling till the morning to breathe. She was very tough. You can only think of getting out of the room if you can find your way to the door. It was a horrible experience.

“But now, I am happy that I went through that training. She had instilled discipline in us but then I didn’t like my mother. When I went to my father’s house, we were free to do all sorts of corrupt things. As a young Muslim, I finished my Quran and did my Wolima.”

He Hated Christianity

The influence of his father rubbed off on him, as he hated the religion upon which his fame now lies. Suleman said his youthful experience caused him to dislike Christianity. He thought many Christians were not sincere.  Seeing the pastors collect donations from church members without accounting for the expenditure was a turn-off for him. But that was to change in 1989.

Apostle Suleman Prepares To Appear Before DSS On Monday With 30 Lawyers

“I went to bed in December 24, and I woke up on December 26. I didn’t see Christmas day. I slept all through. In the midst of that, I was seeing hell, heaven and a voice told me that I was going to be a preacher,” he said of that experience.

“I woke up and went to meet a Mallam and he said I should go and do some recitations. But when I went back, I felt beaten.”

Suleman established his church in 2004, with its headquarters in Auchi, Edo state. The church is said to have more than forty branches across the world.

Governor Ambode Approves Death Penalty For Kidnappers

Featured Image

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday signed the anti-kidnapping bill recently passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly into law.

The Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping Law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment on kidnapping for ransom, however, should the kidnapped victim die in the custody of the kidnappers, the law also stipulates that the suspect is liable on conviction to death.

Governor Ambode noted that the law had become necessary following the increase in kidnapping in the state, adding that the state government was also putting in place appropriate measures particularly in the schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent kidnapping and other security breaches.

“Security is of utmost importance to our administration and we are confident that this law will serve as a deterrent to anybody who may desire to engage in this wicked act within the boundaries of Lagos.” He said.

“Why we use this law to address the challenge and punish the criminals, we are also putting in place appropriate measures particularly in our schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent security breaches and it is important that we ensure that everything we do in respect of this anti-kidnapping law is in good faith and good spirit to eradicate the issue of kidnapping once and for all in the State.”

Mr. Ambode assured that the justice system would be activated to execute the anti-kidnapping law to the letter to ensure that any criminal caught is subjected to the full wrath of the law.

Policeman Assaults Woman For Withholding Information On His Girlfriend’s Whereabouts

Featured Image

A riot policeman, Idiahgbe Iyobosa, has been arrested by Officers of the Ejigbo Police Station, Lagos for allegedly physically assaulting a 30-year-old woman Oluchukwu Ezemaduka.

It was learnt that the victim is currently battling with a damaged jaw at a private hospital, West Care Specialist Hospital in Akowonjo, Lagos.

Oluchukwu Ezemaduka

Oluchukwu Ezemaduka

The Punch reports that Iyobosa, who is attached to a bank in the FESTAC Town, was said to have repeatedly hit the woman in the jaw with his service boots until blood gushed out.

Oluchukwu, it was gathered, was a roommate of Iyobosa’s girlfriend, Maryjane Anyagwa, around Awoyemi Street, off Coker Road, Ejigbo.

Iyobosa had visited the ladies’ apartment on January 21 at about 9pm, with the aim of passing the night there, but only met Oluchukwu at home.

Apparently enraged by her ‘unwillingness’ to divulge the whereabouts of her friend, he was said to have resorted to assaulting Oluchukwu.

Narrating the incident, Oluchukwu, who managed to speak from her sick bed, said:

“I was not in the room when he came. As I was about to enter the room, I felt that somebody was there; I got a torch from a neighbour and shone it in the room. That was when I knew it was him. He had scattered everywhere.

He asked me where his girlfriend was, I didn’t answer him. He asked me the second time and I told him that I didn’t know her whereabouts. He kicked me several times with his boots, breaking my jaw. He brought out a dagger and chased me outside. It was people, who saved me.

The pain is too much for me. The doctor said I would undergo surgeries this week.”

Also speaking, Anyagwa, stated that her relationship with Iyobosa was marred with threats and harassment, saying she was no longer interested in the relationship.

She said, “I was not around that day. When I came back the next morning, my neighbours told me that my boyfriend came to beat up my friend because he was looking for me. He thought she deliberately refused to disclose where I was.

“He usually assault me too. Most times, he would not notify me that he would pass the night in my place. He would threaten to deal with me if I report him to the authorities or quit the relationship. I was afraid.

“We started dating each other about a year ago. I later knew that he is married with two kids. The wife had warned me to stay away from her husband.”

Meanwhile, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, has said that “The incident was reported at the division for discreet investigation.”

Fernandinho Likely To Get New Contract At Manchester City

Featured Image

Fernandinho is in line to get to a new Manchester City deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The midfielder, who has been sent off three times in six games this season, sees his current deal run out in the summer of 2020.

The 31-year-old joined City in 2013 from Shakhtar.

“I am so happy with him and would be delighted if he continues for a long time here,” said Guardiola, who is likely to throw Fernandinho straight back into his starting XI for Wednesday’s trip to West Ham United.

“He’s one more year on his contract. It’s not just in my mind but the club’s mind.

“He’s so important for us and we have played a lot without him. I am happy he’s back. He’s not aggressive, he’s honest. He’s a tough, intense player like English football is.”

The Nigeria Customs Service has declared two of its officers wanted with respect to the 661 pump-action rifles intercepted by officers of the Federal Operating Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja, along the Mile 2-Apapa Expressway.

It is understood that on Tuesday the officers, Abdullahi I – with service number 44483 ASC – and Odiba Haruna Inah – with service number 133386 – had examined and cleared the container carrying the arms.

It was also gathered that they fled after the weapons were uncovered by the operatives of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), had earlier said the agency arrested three suspects – Oscar Okafor (importer), Mahmud Hassan (clearing agent) and Sadique Mustapha (escort) – in connection with the arms smuggling.

This is just as he added that some other customs officers were arrested, with investigations ongoing.

However, the spokesperson for the FOU, Jerry Attah, told The Punch on Tuesday that the suspects were cooperating, saying the two officers were declared wanted for their roles in the incident.

He said, “Immediately the weapons were uncovered, they took to their heels and that is why we are declaring them wanted. They were the ones that examined and checked the container at the Apapa port.

“The other suspects, including three other officers, are still in our custody pending the conclusion of investigations. There will be no half measures. We will get to the root of the case.”

Everton Manager Ronald Koeman Explains Why James McCarthy Couldn’t Leave On Deadline Day

Featured Image

Everton manager Ronald Koeman didn’t let Everton’s James McCarthy leave in the January window as he sees his long-term future at Goodison Park.

“I see him having a long term future here because I think he is a really good player and those players we need for the future of Everton,” said Koeman of McCarthy.

“We need competition in the midfield and that is what I mentioned to the board of the club.”

‘There is no possibility for one of the midfielders to go – yes for Darron Gibson, because there was too much competition for him, but not for James.”

Koeman says should McCarthy’s fitness issues and the problems he encountered with Ireland boss Martin O’Neill surface again, he would not hesitate to go public with his criticism.

“My attitude hasn’t changed towards him,” he said.

“My attitude is the same. If what happened with all the injuries and all the call ups for Ireland I will do the same.

“Of course, he’s really on a good fitness level and that makes James a better player than I saw in the beginning.

“At the beginning he was not fit, he had his problems with his hamstring. I am really pleased with his quality and how he is involved in the team.”

United Kingdom Deports 83 Nigerians

Featured Image

At least 83 Nigerians who were deported from the United Kingdom are expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, agency spokesperson said.

It was gathered that among those deported were residents whose documents had expired and prisoners whose terms of imprisonment were nearing completion.

Confirming the deportation, the spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the deportees were expected to be in the country at 5am.

He explained that they would arrive through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, adding that officials of the agency and other government workers were expected to receive them.

Farinloye said some of them who haven’t completed their prison sentences in the UK would do so in Nigeria.

He said, “We were informed that 83 Nigerians would be deported from the United Kingdom on Wednesday morning.  Some of the people affected are those who haven’t completed their prison sentences. They would be taken to Nigerian prisons to complete their terms. Although we cannot tell the various offences, we believe others could be drug-related and immigration problems.

“We expect that when they arrive in the country, we would be able to know the real reason for their deportation. The aircraft is expected to arrive in the country at 5am at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.”

Manolo Gabbiadini Joins Southampton For Club Record Fee £17 Million

Featured Image

Southampton have completed the signing of the Italy striker Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli for a fee of around £17m.

Manolo Gabbiadini improves Southampton’s manager Claude Puel’s options up front after Charlie Austin was ruled out with a long-term injury.

Manolo Gabbiadini scored three goals in 13 Serie A appearances for the Naples side so far this season and has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at St Mary’s.

Gabbiadini’s career began with Atalanta, where he made 26 appearances in all competitions between 2009 and 2012, while also enjoying a successful spell with Cittadella, in Serie B.

The Italy international has since gone on to represent Bologna, Sampdoria and Napoli in Serie A, making 160 appearances in all competitions for the three clubs.

In total, Gabbiadini has netted 58 club goals in 215 appearances during his time in Italy, while also winning six caps for the Italian national side, scoring once.

Speaking about his move to the club, Gabbiadini said: “I am very, very happy. Since I was a kid, one of my dreams was to perform in one of the biggest leagues in the world, so now that it’s happening I can’t wait to start playing.

“The facilities that I have seen here are an incredible level – top-level standards even for Serie A. These are the sort of facilities that make you want to come here and perform as soon as possible.”

Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “We are delighted to have secured the signing of Manolo Gabbiadini, ahead of a number of other clubs who were interested in him.

“We have followed his progress for a significant amount of time and have worked hard behind the scenes to agree a deal for him this month.

“At the age of 25, we believe Manolo can play an important part in the remainder of the season, while still having his best years ahead of him.

“Claude Puel’s reputation for developing young players also makes this an ideal place in which he can take the next step in his career.

“With Jay Rodriguez, Shane Long and Nathan Redmond all in good form, and Charlie Austin making encouraging progress in his return from injury, Manolo is another exciting addition to our attacking line-up ahead of the final months of the season, as well as for future campaigns.”

Bournemouth Manager Eddie Howe Confirms Failed £18 Milion Bid For Nathan Ake

Featured Image

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that the club failed in their last-ditch attempt to sign Chelsea defender Nathan Ake on transfer deadline day.

Nathan Ake  impressed at the Vitality Stadium in the first half of the season during a loan spell, but was recalled by the Blues last month.

Cherries tried to tempt Chelsea into a sale on Tuesday by launching an £18m bid, but Howe has insisted that the figure was actually much lower.

“We had discussions with Chelsea. The bid that has been reported in the media was miles off the mark,” Sky Sports News quotes Howe as saying.

“We made an enquiry about the opportunity of bringing him back on loan or on a permanent deal, but that was declined.”
