Featured Image

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will forever be grateful to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.

The 29-year-old made over 300 appearances for Arsenal, who travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday seeking to end Chelsea’s 10-match winning run at home.

In an interview on YouTube Cesc Fabregas said: “There’s something that will never change. There’s many things said about me, about Arsenal.

“I don’t really care what people think about me any more. It’s just about what I feel towards them. Arsenal will always be the team that believed in me the most. I was a young kid, 16 years old, playing for Barcelona.

“Arsene Wenger, especially, and Arsenal Football Club, gave me everything.

“Without them I would not be a World Cup winner, a European Championship winner. And I would not have experienced all of this that I’m doing in my life. I will always forever be grateful.”

Axel Tuanzebe has signed a new Manchester United contract keeping him at the club until 2020, with an option for a further year.

The young defender made his first-team debut in United’s FA Cup win over Wigan last weekend.

Ross McCormack Explains His Controvesial Exit From Aston Villa

Featured Image
Ross McCormack admits he is glad to be away from Aston Villa after sealing a Deadline Day move to Nottingham Forest.

Among McCormack’s troubles at Villa was a recent issue when he failed to make it in for training, blaming problems with his electric gates at home, and there was no surprise when that story came up in his first press conference as a Forest player on Thursday.

Asked about the event now known as ‘Gate-Gate’, the Scotland international said: “It’s a true story, honestly. Listen, I’m not a kid, I know how it sounds. But there were factors to it.

“At Villa, if you had a problem, you phone the doctor in the morning. So I called the doctor about 10 to 15 minutes before I would normally leave to warn him I might be running a bit late.

“It was never anything from me saying i wasn’t coming into training. Just that I was going to be a bit late until I got the gate fixed.

“I was supposed to go in to training, but by the time the guy had come in and fixed the gate, it was about 4pm. I rang the club and told them I could now get in, but they said don’t bother – we’ll see you tomorrow.”

Goncalo Guedes Explains Why He Snubed Manchester United For PSG

Featured Image

Goncalo Guedes has explained his decision to snub reported interest from Manchester United to sign for PSG in January.

“I always wanted to pick Paris,” he told French outlet RMC Sport. “I know that English and French football are different but honestly, I think that for someone my age, for someone young, it was better to come to PSG because it’s a big club.

“Manchester would have helped me too, but I’d feel more at home here than in England.”

PSG’s signing of Guedes was their second piece of business in January following the transfer of Julian Draxler.

The Portugal international made his PSG debut on Sunday, coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Monaco.

AC Milan Could Hijack Crystal Palace’s Move For Martin Caceres

Featured Image

AC Milan are set to hijack Crystal Palace’s move for former Juventus defender Martin Caceres, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website claims that the Uruguayan has passed a medical with the South London club, but is yet to agree economic terms, with Milan ready to swoop in for the 29-year-old.

However, any move would be contingent on Caceres being able to play almost straight away, as the Diavolo cannot wait for him to get himself fit.

Martin Caceres can sign for any club outside of the transfer window as a free agent. He has been unattached since leaving Juve last summer when his contract expired and he will now be forced to look elsewhere for his next club.

Jurgen Klopp Comments On Mamadou Sakho’s Liverpool Future

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has been talking about Mamadou Sakho’s future after his Deadline Day move to Crystal Palace.

The defender is on loan with Palace until the end of the season, but Klopp has not ruled out a Liverpool return.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Klopp was asked whether he would offer any guidance to Sakho and replied: “First of all, if I should give some advice to Mamadou Sakho then I should give it to him personally, not via television.”

On whether  Sakho had a future at Liverpool, he added: “Who knows what [happens] in half a year? We felt already what changed in one month, so there’s another five to go.

“I think he should concentrate on the job at Crystal Palace, we should concentrate on what we are doing here.

“In this moment, he is on loan and that means he still has a contract at Liverpool. That’s not the thing we talk or think about in this moment, so that’s a good thing.

“That’s a solution for the moment and we can wait for new impressions and then see what happens. That’s nothing I think in this moment about.”

Terry: Lampard Is The Greatest

Featured Image

John Terry has paid an emotional tribute to Frank Lampard who retired from football today, saying he is the greatest player Chelsea has ever had.

The pair played alongside each other in his 13 years at the club and he scored 211 goals in 648 appearances and both won every major club honour in football.

Terry has previously called Lampard the best player he has ever played with and has gone one better.

“The GREATEST player in the history of our great football club,” Terry wrote on Instagram.

“All the great memories together winning trophy after trophy year after year I will never forget. You have won everything and should be extremely proud.

“It’s been my pleasure and honour to play and experience all those great moments with you.

“A gentleman both on and off the pitch, leader in the dressing room and if I could choose one person next to me in the trenches it would be you.

“A great dad to your two beautiful girls and I’m proud to call you my mate.

“Good luck for the future, whatever you choose to do will be a huge success. Love ya Lampsy.

“LEGEND HERO INSPIRATION + THE BEST EVER.”

Terry has put Lampard’s success down to his work ethic and admitted he longs to have his old team-mate back alongside him.

“The best trainer by a million miles every single day, inspiring me and everyone at the club,” Terry added.

“I miss you next to me in the dressing room and miss you grabbing a bag of balls after training when everyone went inside.

“You stayed out working on your finishing, 20 goals a year wasn’t good enough for you, every year you wanted 25, 30 goals.

“I love that about you. I will miss you getting four cones and doing sprints after training – setting the example for the kids in the academy.”

Pires: Arsenal’s Title Race Is Done If They Lose Against Chelsea

Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes the title is out of his former club’s hands if they lose against Chelsea.

The gunners lost 2-1 to Watford , with Chelsea drawing 1-1 against Liverpool to put them nine points clear.

Hazard: Conte Works On Tactics More Than Mourinho Harder

Featured Image

Antonio Conte works harder on the tactical side of the game than Jose Mourinho does, according to Eden Hazard.

Mourinho was fired in December 2015, with Guus Hiddink taking over on a temporary basis, before Antonio Conte took over after the Euro 2016.

Chelsea’s start to the season was slow, but that is a distant memory with Chelsea top of the logs and Hazard says the players know what is expected of them.

He told Sky Sports: “In tactics and training we do more with Conte.

“We work a lot of tactical positions and we know exactly what we have to do on the pitch, where I have to go and where the defenders have to go.

“We know exactly what to do. With Mourinho, he put in a system but we didn’t work lots. We know what to do because we play football, but maybe the automatisms were a little bit different.

“With Mourinho, Nemanja Matic was behind me in the season when we won the title and sometimes I stayed in front and Matic did the job.

“With Conte it’s different. I close more inside because Marcos Alonso is there as a wing-back. I just need to be ready to counter-attack if we get the ball.”

Hazard endured a testing 2015-16 campaign, but has returned to form this season with nine goals in 25 appearances.

Lassa Fever: Lagos Embarks On “Deratisation” In 465 Markets

Featured Image

In an attempt to curb the activities of rats, thereby preventing the spread of Lassa Fever virus, the Lagos State Vector Control Programme has said it would employ more graduates of the state’s College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Yaba, to engage in deratisation in 465 markets in the state.

Lassa Fever And Why You Need To Take It Seriously (Must Read)

Speaking on Thursday in Lagos, Mr Oluwasegun Benson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Phosgard Fumigants Nigeria Ltd., and the programme’s coordinator, said that the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had given his approval for automatic employment of 233 graduates of the college from 2012/2013 academic session with effect from July 2, 2016.

He made this known shortly after inspecting markets in Ijeh Barracks and Obalande in Eti-Osa Local Government and seven others in Ijora, Apapa Local Government.

The coordinator said the team’s planned employment of more graduates of LASCOHET would further enhance curbing the spread of Lassa fever in the state by ridding it of rats.

Nasarawa State Loses 4 Persons To Lassa Fever

LASCOHET, formerly known as the School of Hygiene, was established by Dr Oladipo Oluwole, the first Nigerian Medical Officer of Health, in 1920.

Benson explained that under the programme, his members would cover over 465 markets, beginning from next month.

“The ‘deratisation’ of the markets will be done every month. We will visit all the markets in each local government in the state once a month.

The state government established the programme to eliminate Lassa Fever virus transmitted to humans by killing rats especially in markets and public places in what is called ‘deratting’.

Fake JAMB Forms: Panic In Imo As Fraudsters Dupe ‘Several’ Families

Featured Image

Panic in Imo State as a number of families have reportedly been duped of huge sum of money by suspected fraudsters, with the sale of fake 2017 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, registration forms circulating.

2017 UTME: JAMB Issues New Guidelines For Registration, CBT Centres

This revelation was brought to light on Wednesday by the Chairman, Computer Based Test Centre Proprietors Association of Nigeria, CPAN, Chidiebere Egboh, in Owerri, the state capital.

Egboh revealed that: “Fraudsters who run unauthorized business outfits in the state are defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of huge sums of money.

“We have observed with utter dismay, the illegal activities of unaccredited business houses defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of huge sum of money by selling fake 2017 JAMB registration forms, providing special centres for purposes of cheating in the examination and purporting to have registered them for the 2018 JAMB University and Tertiary Education Examinations.”

According to him, the fraudsters, who are playing a fast one on their victims, have extorted over N15,000 each from thousands of prospective JAMB candidates.

2017 UTME: JAMB To Start Using CCTV Cameras During Examination

He further lamented that the fraudsters have offered to allocate candidates to their special centres.

It would be recalled, The Registrar and Chief Executive of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had stated that the board was yet to commence the sale of forms due to certain reasons, warning parents and candidates to be wary of fraudsters who might try to hoodwink them.

We’ve Not Started Sales Of 2017 UTME Forms – JAMB

He added: “We will meet with heads of other examination bodies, NECO, WAEC and NABTEB, next week to determine the appropriate time frame to conduct the exams so that our period don’t clash with theirs.”

“Similarly, we don’t want to conduct our exam at a time when students are not ready because that might be disastrous. JAMB don’t conduct achievement examination but a ranking examination, and that was why we kicked against the extension of its validity.

“I am addressing this letter to you and calling you “dead” because your filthy, satanic, useless and lost soul is just wandering on earth waiting to get to hell where you have earned yourself permanent residency in the deepest and most painful part of it.

“Contrary to your claim in most of your video or audio messages, the innocent people you kill are better than you in the sight of both human beings and Allah and you are the one surely going to hell.

“Your soul will never smell heaven.

“The tears I shed on the death of my brother were for my personal loss. For the deceased however, I am extremely happy because he died in a mosque, praying (in ruku’u), fasting on a Monday and was killed by your bomb.

“Given a choice, I would not mind the same type of death.

“His death was very painful but I want to assure you that you cannot stop us from going to the mosque to pray, neither can you stop us from seeking for and obtaining knowledge and education (both Islamic and western).

“We have no doubt lost a brother, father, grandfather, Professor, gentleman, pillar of support, guardian and a good man but we have gained a martyr.

“We are very proud of what Professor Aliyu Usman Mani achieved in life and in death, we are certain he died in one of the best possible ways to exit this world and that his hereafter is even better.

“In death, Professor Aliyu’s status was elevated, his popularity soared, his name heard beyond the academia, beyond the shores of Nigeria, his burial was attended by hundreds of people including my humble self and others from all walks of life prayed for him in private and in congregations at places of worship.

“You cannot change or take away the good things people said and are still saying about him neither can you change the bad things they said and are still saying about you.

“Even your parents, children and relations if you have any, cannot be proud of what you are doing not to talk of the country and Islam as a religion.

“You can only deceive the gullible, uneducated in both Islamic and western education and innocent boys and girls who did not know what they were doing into carrying out your devilish plans.

“If you are convinced that what you are doing is Islam and Almighty Allah is truly with you, then show your face, operate from a known and traceable address, use only male adults and do not brainwash small boys and girls into carrying out attacks on your behalf while you hide like a rat in a hole and claim heroism afterwards.

“I say you are already dead because “alive”, you the killer of Professor Aliyu Usman Mani, cannot show your face physically, cannot move around freely, cannot sleep peacefully, cannot command respect willfully.

“You cannot do anything normally, you cannot enjoy life fully, you can only live in the bush with your cousins the wild animals tamely, and will surely die miserably without the privilege of a proper burial.”

Tuface Idibia, Buhari And The Limits Of Activism

Tuface Idibia, Buhari And The Limits Of Activism, By Ohimai Godwin Amaize

Among the top news headlines of the past few days have been President Donald Trump’s supposed Muslim ban; the intrigues surrounding the rumours about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health; the fiery preacher, Apostle Johnson Suleiman and the secret police’s interest in the content of a sermon delivered earlier mid-January; and the topic of this essay, the planned protest against the Federal Government of Nigeria by popular Nigerian music artiste, Tuface Idibia.

This piece was written By Ohimai Godwin Amaize. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The protest couldn’t have been better timed, coming at a critical phase in our nation’s history when the dominant words on the streets are hunger and anger, amid palpable discontent over the hopeless incompetence of the Buhari administration since it assumed office on May 29, 2015.

I’m a huge fan of Tuface Idibia. He is one of several top music artistes in Nigeria who have earned my respect. I’ve also been a leading advocate for the use of pop culture for social re-engineering. However, real advocacy for good governance must not be confused with the politics of emergency activism, often inspired by the logic of the stomach.

In the run up to the 2015 presidential elections, Tuface Idibia, unlike many of his counterparts in the entertainment industry, was not exactly quiet. He was at the forefront of ‘Vote Not Fight’ – a campaign aimed at promoting peaceful elections. With all the noble intentions and sheer goodwill that engineered that campaign, there are many who argue that the cry for peaceful elections may not have been as critical as the need to call attention to the dangers of the emergence of a Buhari presidency, or in more diplomatic terms, empowering citizens with the knowledge and information to make wiser choices.

Lagos Police Vows To Disrupt 2Face’s Planned Protest

This is one of the biggest challenges of activism in Nigeria today. People simply want to identify any cause, as long as it is a cause, throw their weight behind it for whatever reasons, as long as it has the potential to either launch them into the public limelight or, in the case of those already in the limelight, keep them at the centre of public conversation. The danger in this growing culture of activism-for-fame is the substitution of what is more critical with what is more fanciful, economically lucrative or politically convenient.

Except you were not a student of modern Nigerian history, it would have been hypocritical or tantamount to sheer ‘politics’ to feign ignorance of the dangers of a Buhari presidency, at the time he was being repackaged and presented to Nigerians as the ‘messiah’ that would ‘kill corruption’ and lead Nigeria to El Dorado.

Here is a man whose time as military Head of State left a legacy of being one of our nation’s worst human rights abusers. Here is a man whose records in managing the economy of a nation fall short of the basic principles of running a local government council. Here is a man whose rigidity, incompetence, and parochial approach to governance led to his lieutenants kicking him out of office, but not before he practically ran the nation aground. Publicly available documents contain accounts of Nigerian troops jubilating in the streets in 1985 when Buhari was toppled by his own men. But less than 24 months ago, the failed dictator was presented to Nigerians as the hottest thing since sweet potatoes!

Those who came out to present the real facts of history were blackmailed and labelled as the enemies of Nigeria. All entreaties by those who saw the impending danger fell on deaf ears. An entire nation was thrown into the frenzy of Buharimania! It was the biggest propaganda and scam ever witnessed in Nigeria’s 100-year history.

Those performing the orchestra of change said corruption was our biggest problem and Buhari was coming to kill corruption. Now, hunger, not corruption, is killing Nigerians! Yet, in the midst of all that confusion, those who ought to know better either joined the Buhari bandwagon or chose to sit on the fence. As history re-writes itself, it is easier to forgive those who came out to support Buhari than to forgive the ones who chickened out and sat on the fence as Nigeria faced a most defining moment of history. Sadly, Tuface Idibia falls into this latter category.

Perhaps, nothing captures the implication of our inactions better than the words of the great Desmond Tutu who said; “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”

In the 2008 election cycle in the United States of America, American celebrities who believed in the change candidacy of Barack Obama rallied behind him. We saw on display a replay of that celebrity star power in 2016 during Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency. We saw the likes of Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Katy Perry putting their careers on the line to lend their voices to a cause they truly believed in. It wasn’t convenient but they understood the principle of not sitting on the fence in the heat of battle.

Back home in Nigeria, we remember how Dapo ‘D’Banj’ Oyebanjo came out openly to endorse the candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. For whatever it is worth, against all odds, insults, and public attacks, D’Banj earned the respect of those who understand what it takes to believe in a cause and take a public stand, even when it seems that the whole world is against you.

Many have suggested that this anti-government protest is a badly needed publicity stunt for Tuface to re-launch his music career. There are many who also believe it is being funded by opposition elements against the Buhari administration. Whatever you chose to believe, I belong to the school of thought that see Tuface Idibia as a truly Nigerian legend in the making who does not need the platform of a political rally to either re-launch or re-package his musical career. He is actually bigger than that.

In all of this, the real lesson here for Tuface Idibia and his contemporaries is the need to be more circumspect in the consideration of their roles and responsibilities to society as real change agents.

In emerging social contexts, the celebrity, opinion leader or change agent is no longer at liberty to stay or stand aloof on issues of national consequence, sometimes in the name of being politically correct. Increasingly, societal expectations are becoming societal responsibilities and opinion shapers must adjust, adapt or become mere replicas in the dustbins of history.

Gone are the days when it used to be said that we can do anything we like and get away with it because “Nigerians easily forget.” No, Nigerians do not easily forget. Not in this age of new media when our actions and inactions are fast becoming digital footprints on our path to a future that never really forgets.

2Face Issues Statement On Planned Protest | States Reasons Behind The Crusade

Another lesson that must not be lost in the cacophony of today’s clash of opinions is understanding the true essence of social activism beyond protests and rallies. We must look back into history and learn why, for instance, the Occupy Nigeria movement is best remembered today as a farce. We must learn from the legacies of icons like Nelson Mandela, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Martin Luther King Jnr. who put in painstaking, time-tested and unwavering commitment into advancing the values they believed in. There are no short-cuts!

As the popular saying goes, “Better late than never.” There are many Nigerians who are happy that the likes of Tuface have “seen the light” and are taking a step to atone for their inactions that led Nigeria into this current mess. The planned protest is a good start, but an apology from Tuface to Nigerians for sitting on the fence when his voice was badly needed, would be welcomed.

Muller: I Need Bayern Munich To Play Better For Me To Get My Form Back

Featured Image

Thomas Muller believes his poor form is down to Bayern Munich’s poor attacking display and has urged them to improve.

The Germany international has only scored one goal so far and Bayern Munich are currently top of the table and three points ahead of RB Leipzig. However, they’ve been criticised for underwhelming performances.

And while Muller admits he should have scored more goals, he feels it is down to his teams performance.

“My [goal-scoring] stats are not the same as in recent years. When the team’s not playing well offensively, it’s always a problem for me because I’m not an individualistic player,” he told ESPN.

“I don’t take the ball in the middle of the pitch and dribble past six guys. When our positioning and ball game and passing is not that good, then my game is struggling as well.

“I can score from set pieces and so on, but I have to be involved in the combinations, make my runs without the ball, go deep. When we find our game, play more balls on the ground, through the middle, and combine better, it’s more comfortable for me as well.

“If I only looked at my running, I should have scored 35 goals by now because I’m running more than last year.”

There have been suggestions that Bayern’s less impressive games have been a result of new coach Carlo Ancelotti still getting used to his new surroundings, but Muller feels that explanation is too simplistic.

“I don’t think that’s the problem. Everybody needs to look at the mirror and think why it doesn’t work that well,” he added. “I think it’s more of a problem of the team than of individuals. We as players have to find the solution to be a team, to be more compact on the pitch.

“The distances between us are too big. We have problems with the second ball. Against Freiburg and Bremen, we had so much defending to do that we didn’t create many chances.

“We are not satisfied if we win in a game that doesn’t feel like it was our game. We won the last three away games narrowly. They were tough games. You can search for reasons. Maybe it was the pitches.

“Right now, the weather isn’t that good. But that’s only a small part. We don’t play the style we want to play. The ball isn’t [moving around] the way we want to. We have a good mentality and very good players. But we want more – more control.”
