LeBron James Just Wants The Best For His Friend Anthony

Featured Image

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has stated he just wants his friend Carmelo Anthony to be happy regardless of where he plays.

“I just want the best for my friend, no matter what it is,” James told reporters in Cleveland before the Cavaliers traveled to New York for their game against the Knicks on Saturday night. “If [Anthony’s] there in New York or if not, I just want the best for him. I want him to be happy.

“The game comes very easy to you when you’re happy where you are. If he’s happy in New York, maybe he wants to be elsewhere. I’m not sure. He’s done a lot for that franchise. He did a lot for the Denver franchise as well. We’ll see what happens.”

The Cavs rebuffed the Knicks’ attempt late last month to trade Anthony for Kevin Love, sources told ESPN’s Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne.

The Italian replaced Frank De Boer in November and has led them to fourth on the log, losing one match in the Serie A since taking over.

Pioli is now looking to the future and is certain that their current set-up has the potential to bring Inter success.

“I think the quality is in the squad,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“But as well as those values that make us think of a good present, there are also club owners who want to make Inter great again in the future.

Wenger: Bellerin Had No Idea Chelsea Had Scored

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger says Hector Bellerin who suffered a concussion had no idea Chelsea had scored in the 13th minute.

Wenger felt Marcos Alonso’s aerial challenge on the defender was dangerous, as the winger arrived with pace and caught the Spain international with an arm.

Bellerin could no longer continue in the match and was substituted, as second half goals from Hazard and Fabregas won it for the Blues.

After telling a post-match news conference his right-back was concussed, Wenger said: “Was he completely knocked out… He didn’t know the result of the game at the time. He didn’t see the goal.

“The decision [to substitute Bellerin] was, for me, very quick, but we have to respect that. It is the head.”

Wenger believes players not receiving adequate protection from officials in aerial challenges is something that needs to be addressed.

“One of the particularities of the game today is that referees are much more severe with tackles on the ground and let much more go with elbows in the face,” he said.

“It is not only today but in many, many games I see that. But it is more dangerous to hit the head than the legs.”

Parker Could Defend Belt In Singapore

Featured Image

Duco Events has announced the possibility of Joseph Parker defending his heavyweight title against Hughie Fury in Singapore.

Duco Events who promotes the titlist , won the purse bid worth £3, 000, 011 meaning they are responsible for organising the location – but have now revealed it may not be in their home country of New Zealand.

“We’ve had an enquiry out of Singapore about taking it to a casino,” Duco director David Higgins said. “In Manchester, Fury’s hometown, the fans buy tickets big.

“The fight won’t necessarily be in New Zealand. When you prepare a purse bid, you have to put a proposed date and location. But now our job is see if we can make it stack up here.

“But we would like to hold it here. So our job over the coming two weeks is to see if we can make it work.

“Winning the purse bid you hold all the cards, losing the purse bid you lose all the cards, so the stakes were very high.”

Kante Says Chelsea Have Not Won The Title Yet

Featured Image

Despite securing an emphatic 3-1 win over Arsenal, N’golo Kante does not think the race for the title is over.

Alonso, Hazard and Fabregas were all on target in the win, opening up a 12 points lead over their closest opponents.

Kante was fingered by Arsene Wenger as a key player for Chelsea and the midfielder commanded the midfield.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old France international did not feel he and his team-mates were at their best.

“It wasn’t the best we have played but it was important for us,” Kante told BBC Sport.

“The title is not finished, a lot of things could happen.”

The prospect of becoming a back-to-back title winner was something Kante conceded was not on his radar when playing his trade for relative minnows Caen in his homeland two years ago.

“When I was in France I just wanted to achieve the ambition of staying in French Ligue 1,” he added. “I didn’t expect to one day win a title.

“Last year what we did was amazing, this year we have not won anything.”

Cahill Pleased With Win Over Arsenal

Featured Image

The first time Chelsea played Arsenal this season, they lost 3-0. But, the reverse fixture at the Stamford Bridge ended in a dominant 3-1 win, much to the delight of Cahill.

Alonso headed in the opener in the first half, before a solo goal from Hazard came in the 53rd minute. Fabregas then came off the bench to score the third goal for the Blues.

However, Giroud scored a header in stoppage time, but it didn’t do much to dampen the jubilation after the final whistle.

“It was fantastic,” Chelsea defender Cahill told Sky Sports. “In football you get the opportunity to put things right.

“I remember the feeling after we got off the field at Arsenal and we were determined to put things right. We did just that.

“We’re confident playing at home. We knew a win would be vitally important for us against a massive team.

“We practice this formation, we practice our tactics. The manager is very thorough with that. We take that on board and try to deliver.

“We created a lot and could have had more goals but the second goal was a special goal from a special player.

“The next goal was important after half-time and for me that killed the game.”

Hazard was deservedly given the man-of-the-match award after his first goal of 2017 arrived in picturebook fashion.

“It is always good to score beautiful goals against a massive team,” he told Sky Sports.

“We scored three beautiful goals and we deserved to win this game.”

On his stunning strike, Hazard added: “I try this in all games but it is not like this in every game. I know I need to score more goals, so I am happy.

“We created a lot of chances but on the counter-attack we can so better.”

15,000 Youths To Welcome Buhari As He Returns To Nigeria On Sunday

Excerpt for any last minute change of plans, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to return back to Nigeria on Sunday after his 10-day vacation in London, United Kingdom.

A reliable source in the presidency made this known on Friday.

Osinbajo To Act As President As Buhari Proceeds On A 10-Day Vacation

The source added that top government officials are expected to receive the President at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

“There are no indications yet that he will not be back on Sunday. If he will not return, he would have communicated that to the National Assembly. Since he has not done that, then he is expected back,” the source said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has mobilised 15,000 youths to welcome the president from London.

The youths would assemble at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, to welcome Buhari, who has been away on vacation.

The President proceeded on a 10-day vacation in London on Jan. 23 and is expected to return to Nigeria on Feb. 6, 2017.

Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Murtala Gamji, who unveiled the youths programme in Abuja on Friday said the time had come for youths, who are the future leaders, to show love, solidarity and support for the President.

“ The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has concluded arrangements to mobilise not less than 15,000 of its members to be at Abuja airport on Feb. 6, to welcome President Buhari from vacation.

“It is on record that integrity, discipline and honesty are gradually returning to our public life unlike in the past when impunity was the order of the day,’’ the spokesman said.

Conte: Chelsea Deserved All Three Points, But It Did Not Come Easy

Featured Image

Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Arsenal was well deserved, but it wasn’t easy to get, according to Antonio Conte.

The Blues went into the break ahead by a goal, after a Marcos Alonso header, with a beautiful solo run from Hazard extending the lead after the break, before Fabregas cemented the win with a well taken lob.

Arsenal is a team Conte rates quite highly, but he is pleased to have gotten maximum points from the encounter. Chelsea are now 12 points clear at the top of the table.

“We played a good game,” Conte said to Sky Sports.

“It was not easy. Arsenal for me are a good team with a lot of good players – they are technical and physical.

“But we played a good game with good intensity and organisation defensively and offensively. We deserved the win.

“I am pleased with the effort of my players. I think they deserved it because during the week in every training session I see great attitude, great behaviours. In this case the coach must be pleased.”

However, Conte was slightly frustrated by Chelsea conceding a stoppage-time header from Olivier Giroud.

“First of all I am pleased for the win, but at the same time I am a little bit disappointed with the goal we conceded to Arsenal,” he said.

“It is a pity. It is important always to try to improve and keep concentrating in the right way from the start until the end.

“In the second part of the game we conceded a few chances to Arsenal. It is a pity, but we also created a lot of chances to score a lot of goals.”

‘Nigeria Cited Most Dangerous Place For Christians In The World’ – US Congress

Featured Image

The United States House of Representatives has cited Nigeria as the most dangerous place for Christians in the world, adding that impunity for those responsible for the killing of Christians in the country “seems to be widespread.”

This revelation was brought to light by the Chairman of its Sub-committee on Africa, Global Health, Human Rights and International Organisation, Christopher Smith, in a letter to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

What Ex-President Jonathan Told US Legislators About Killing Of Nigerian Christians [Full Speech]

The letter was inviting Jonathan to make a presentation to the Sub-Committee on the challenges faced by Christians in Nigeria and the Niger Delta issue.

Although, the event held on the 1st and 2nd February, the actual content of the letter is only just revealed with its labelling of Nigeria as the most dangerous country to be a Christian.

In the letter, which was made available to ThisDay Newspaper, Smith was quoted to have said: “My subcommittee has broadly investigated the crises facing Christians in Nigeria today. My staff director, Greg Simpkins and I have made several visits to Nigeria, speaking with Christians and Muslim religious leaders across the country and visiting fire-bombed churches, such as in Jos. Unfortunately, Nigeria has been cited as the most dangerous place for Christians in the world and impunity for those responsible for the killing of Christians seem to be widespread.

“In fulfillment of your foundation’s mandate to promote democracy, peace and transformational change, I invite you to come to the United States next week to share your views on this matter, including the alleged Islamisation of government under the current administration and the actions your foundation is prepared to take in pursuit of religious freedom.”

Senate, Reps Summon Fashola Following Sack Of TCN Management

Featured Image

A joint committee of the National Assembly on Power on Friday summoned the Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola – on Monday – with respect to the sudden dissolution of the management of the Transition Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The summon is coming after the Federal Government had announced the sack of the Abubakar Atiku-led management of TCN, and seconded Usman Mohammed from the African Development Bank, AfDB, to head the company.

In the statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Daniel Asuquo, the National Assembly expressed worry at the development.

“The Joint Committee on Power of the National Assembly acting on its powers of oversight received disturbing correspondences and information regarding the sudden change in the leadership of TCN, and its attendant crisis,” the joint committee said.

“Considering the urgency of the matter, especially due to the present economic recession, the Joint Committee resolved to invite the Hon. Minister of Power, Works and Housing to explain the decision of the ministry to “import” from the ADB (one of the lenders to TCN) yet another duplication of the Manitoba experience which had left a negative impression on the fortunes of TCN and indeed the Power Sector.

“The Joint Committee invited the Hon. Minister for Power, Work & Housing to appear before the Committee along with relevant officials on the 3rd of February which he could not appear.

“Consequently, the Joint Committee met and resolved as follows:

“(a) That the status quo ante in respect of the management of TCN be maintained;

“(b) That the Minister should endeavor to appear before the Committee on Monday 6th February, 2017 by 10 am. and

“(c) That all TCN staff and relevant stakeholders should maintain the peace in the overall interest.”

James Ibori Arrives Nigeria, Leaves DSS Office

Featured Image

The former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, who had arrived Nigeria earlier today, was picked by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) immediately after his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

It was gathered that the former governor was taken to the head office of the secret police.

Ibori And A Nation United By Corruption

A source who is close to the polity revealed that the meeting with the DSS was pre-arranged.

“It was pre-arranged that he should have a chat with the DSS director-general, Lawal Daura, upon his arrival. He will not be detained. His appointment was for 12:00 hrs so the operatives went to pick him up and drove him down for the meeting,” the operative said.

Ibori has left the headquarters of the DSS after a meeting with Lawal Daura, director of the DSS.

All Hail James Ibori, The Kleptomaniac “Redeemer”

The former governor was recently freed from prison in the UK after serving a jail term.

He was convicted of corruption and money laundering on April 17, 2012, after five years of trial.

The Southwark Crown Court, UK, sentenced him to 13 years in prison while his houses, luxury cars and other property items were confiscated.

James Ibori Regains Freedom After Spending 6 Years In UK Prison

The judge, however, ruled that Ibori would spend half of the jail term which is six and half years.

Just like his release in December, his arrival in Warri and Oghara today is expected to trigger dancing in the streets.

The Politics Of Magu’s Confirmation

Featured Image

The Politics Of Magu’s Confirmation, By Godwin Onyeacholem

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Following an initial setback caused by a purported security report which the Senate relied for suspending Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), President Muhammadu Buhari has rightly written back to the Senate requesting Magu’s confirmation, having been convinced of the futility of the so-called report prepared by the Department of State Services (DSS).

This piece was written by Godwin Onyeacholem. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Besides succumbing to wise counsel, Buhari’s decision aligns with the popular expectation of a great majority of the people who want to see Magu continue the excellent job he is doing in his acting role at the helm of the country’s foremost anti-corruption agency. Indeed, the voice for his retention has been so resounding that were Nigerians to cast a ballot regarding his continuation, the result would be returned overwhelmingly in his favour.

Yet, for him and the success of the anti-corruption campaign, the Senate hurdle remains an albatross. Despite Buhari’s letter reiterating the crucial importance of checking the corruption scourge and appealing for a favourable acceptance of this nominee in view of the need to sustain the prevailing momentum and capacity of the EFCC, the body language of the senators is decidedly against this sentiment.

It does not matter to them that apart from the high integrity quotient of Buhari, their party’s and indeed Buhari’s flagship campaign promise of a frontal fight against corruption was the other major reason Nigerians voted massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election. Nor do they feel embarrassed that despite belonging to the same party as President Buhari and being the majority in the upper parliament, APC senators are unable to muster the required insight and unity of purpose that would lead to a seamless confirmation of Buhari’s nominee as head of a strategic agency primed to actualise a top agenda in their party’s manifesto.

Understandably, some of them, including opposition PDP senators, are already being vigorously prosecuted for all manners of crimes by the EFCC. Thus, to them the nominee represents a creeping affliction that would effectively checkmate not just their own relentless pursuit of unconscionable excesses, but also that of similar selfish elite groups that have conspired to hold down the development of this country. Therefore, the chairman of EFCC can and should be anyone else but Magu, they must have resolved.

This is the ugly mindset that, in the first instance, arrogantly shunned due process and brazenly embraced a totally ill-advised request to the DSS for a security report on the acting EFCC Chair. In its entire history, until the Magu case, the Nigerian Senate never asked for a security report on any nominee presented to it for confirmation by the presidency. Of course, the reason is clear. Before the presidency sends the name of any nominee to the Senate, that nominee would have been vetted by the DSS. But this red chamber took that undistinguished route because Magu must be stopped anyhow. Hopefully, this would be the first and the last time such an abominable act would be carried out in the National Assembly.

Conscious of the potency of the threat he poses, the Senate schemed for an alibi with which to nail Magu and found a willing tool in a messy DSS which helped finagle a report whose ambiguity exposed the malevolent intent of its colluding originators – a report containing preposterous allegations and recommendations that formed the basis of the Senate’s refusal to proceed with the confirmation. The report was clearly aimed at achieving a predetermined goal, as not only could the allegations contained therein be described as silly, but it also went ahead, curiously, to dish out recommendations to the Senate.

This has left the politics of Magu’s confirmation, dirty and ill-tempered as it is, with a few unanswered questions. For example, if there was no evil agenda, what is the business of DSS in including recommendations in its report? Why wouldn’t they just stop at what they perceive as Magu’s ‘sins’ and leave the rest to the senators? Why did the DSS issue two different security reports and why did the Senate discard the one that said Magu should be confirmed based on his brilliant performance and instead choose to work with the one that said Magu was not fit for confirmation? Could Buhari have forwarded his nominee’s name to the Senate without the benefit of sighting a security report by the DSS? If the report were unfavourable could Buhari have still gone ahead, at the risk of his famed anti-corruption credential, to forward Magu’s name for confirmation?

If there is any group that ought to be in the forefront of supporting the president and the party to succeed in the crusade against the monster called corruption, it should be the APC senators. Unfortunately, they have so far acted otherwise, presenting themselves in parliament as unrepentant antagonists of Buhari and the party, as well as playing the role of leading saboteurs of the anti-graft war. They have further underscored their hostility by hinting that they would summon the DSS boss to shed more light on the security report.

But they would be helping this country in a very significant way if they shed all prejudices and summon their patriotic instinct to do the right thing, by inviting Magu to the plenary with a view to confirming him as the substantive Chairman of EFCC.

Anything short of that is bound to seriously jeopardise the war against corruption and call the integrity of our senators to question.

Hospitals For Humanity’s 1K1M Campaign

Congenital Heart Defects are very common and critical birth defects however survival and life expectancy of individuals with congenital heart disease have significantly increased with earlier diagnosis improved surgical interventions and better medical management.

Every year, an estimated 85,000 children are born with congenital heart defects in Nigeria all are currently referred out of the country for surgeries. Every hour in Nigeria, a hundred children die before their fifth birthday.

One of every eight under-five children who die in the world today is Nigerian. These children mostly die of treatable vaccine preventable illnesses which are complicated by malnutrition. These deaths are largely needless and preventable.

A high proportion of children with surgically amenable congenital heart disease will require lifesaving, invasive intervention to help improve their quality of life significantly. It is estimated that compared to their peers, the medical costs for individuals with congenital heart disease are 10 to 12 times greater.  And most patients in Nigeria are referred to seek these surgeries outside of Nigeria which funds most of these family cannot afford.

To this end, Hospitals for Humanity (HfH) an Atlanta based NGO duly registered both in the US and Nigeria has in the last two years conducted forty nine (49) paediatric cardiothoracic surgeries via its Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Initiative (PCTSI) and in Nigeria, made up of a world class team, providing care and services comparable to any first class institution while building capacities of local staff and fostering knowledge transfer.

Currently HfH has a patient list of over a thousand patients, two hundred of who URGENTLY need surgeries, having exhausted its funds in the largely pro bono efforts of the last two years, HfH seeks to raise funds via its 1K1M fundraising campaign to continue carrying out these surgeries for the needing children.

The 1K1M campaign seeks to raise funds from one million individuals who will give at least N1000 each or its currency equivalent in dollars, pounds or euros towards carrying out open heart surgeries for 200 children with congenital heart defects.

Taking off in January and running throughout the year, the campaign will involve as many activities as possible ranging from social to religious, all aimed at raising funds for this cause. On board as proud partners and sponsors are Daar Communications, to mention a few.

Pioli: Icardi Is A Better Striker Than Higuain

Featured Image

Stefano Pioli has backed Mauro Icardi as the better striker between him and Higuain, but believes team effort is needed to beat Juventus.

Inter had a poor start to life with De Boer in charge, but Pioli has guided them to fourth on the table and nine points behind Juventus.

That deficit can be reduced when they meet on Sunday, with Pioli confident in his striker, who has 15 goals and eight assists already.

When asked which of the two strikers is better, Pioli told Corriere dello Sport: “Icardi… We need to be effective, we have to be a team. I do not think there is one decisive aspect: when we play with intensity, pace and work for each other. If we do that we are a strong and competitive team.

“We will have to approach the game with strength, conviction and effectiveness. Juventus are the team who score more in the first 10 minutes, we score more in the last 15. We’ll see what will happen.

“We have to be very careful about the details and distances, but we should be paying attention to the second balls, they may important to help us hurt them in attack.

“Juventus are a strong team, they have the mentality, the team and the coach. If there is a team that can make things difficult, it is Inter. They have certain qualities and we have ours. We will try to do well.

“This meeting will be important in understanding the distance between the two teams. I think it will be a good challenge.”

Mustafi: A Change Of Mentality Is Key

Featured Image

Shkrodan Mustafi believes Arsenal need a change of mentality from the loss to Watford to beat Chelsea.

Wenger admitted his men were not available in the first half and did not expect the challenge from Watford, as they lost 2-1.

This is Mustafi’s first loss as a Gunner and it has put the Emirates club nine points behind leaders Chelsea.

Asked whether the players or manager should take responsibility for the result, and the slow start, Mustafi told Sky Sports: “Personally I think the first thing you do is blame yourself first. The most important thing is to look what you have done wrong in the game. Then blame others.

“The players are on the pitch, we blame ourselves before we blame the manager. We have to take that responsibility and then answer.”

“It can only be mental. We know we can play better and we were sloppy at the start.

“It’s all about mentality, being there from the first minute and knowing the Premier League is a difficult competition and teams are going to go for the opportunity they have, which Watford did. They ran at us and defended well. We were not clever or concentrated enough to stop them.

“We were not there, they ran all over us, and we cannot be happy with that at home. We have to bounce back, it’s a big game against Chelsea, we will try to be there from the first minute to the last second.”

Mustafi: A Change Of Mentality Is Key

‘Rooney Should Leave United’

Featured Image

Paul Ince believes the fact that Wayne Rooney has lost his spot in the starting XI means means his time is done at United and he should leave.

Ince was at Manchester United for six seasons and won two premier league titles under Ferguson before leaving for Inter.

The former England international feels that Rooney still has something to offer and should not be left to watch from the bench.

“If I was in his position, at his age, there’s absolutely no chance I’d stay at Manchester United,” Ince wrote in his Paddy Power column.

“Rooney is 31 and still has a lot to offer. He wants to play football, and wants to play every game. His time at Man United is finished if they can’t offer him that anymore. He’s too good to be a bit-part player and it’s time for him to move on from Manchester United.”

Ince has also hit out at Rooney’s critics for suggesting that he has declined and can no longer play at the highest level.

Rooney has just two Premier League goals this season, having made just eight starts under Jose Mourinho.

“People shouldn’t even be suggesting that Wayne Rooney is finished in football,” the 49-year-old continued.

“It’s disrespectful to even suggest that. He is world class, and has proven that time and time again at the highest level.

“There’s been talk of a move to China or to the MLS, but he still has plenty more to give to top-flight English football. If Jose Mourinho said he was available, there should be plenty of Premier League top half clubs who would jump to sign him.”

Klopp: Liverpool Must Become Streetwise

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool need to become streetwise and clever on the pitch just like Chelsea.

Liverpool had to settle for a 1-1 draw when Chelsea came visiting despite dominating proceedings, as Conte’s men used every antics to stay in the game.

And Klopp would love his players to play like that, but feels they’re still young and inexperienced to carry it out.

“Yes, we have to be more streetwise,” the German told reporters.

“I am not sure if you can force something like this but it is a good thing to have in football. Being clever is part of football.

“Chelsea are more experienced and sometimes more clever or smart, however you want to describe it.

“We can improve on this. But we cannot improve every day on everything.”

The Reds have seen their title challenge fall away after a torrid month of January, sitting 10 points behind runaway leaders Chelsea in fourth.
