Moussa Dembele: “I’m Staying At Celtic”

Featured Image

Moussa Dembele says he is going nowhere after scoring a second-half hat-trick in Celtic’s 5-2 win over St Johnstone.

Dembele’s introduction shortly after the break inspired a late comeback as he scored three goals in just 24 minutes to ensure the club extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 27 points.

Brendan Rodgers left the striker on the bench to begin with as he continues his recovery from a knee injury, which sparked rumours of a transfer when he was spotted in London to receive treatment.

After responding to the speculation with an emphatic comeback on Sunday afternoon, Dembele looked to clear up any talk of an exit, while also crediting his team’s character.

“When we were behind we kept playing our game and kept focus, and made chances, and with the quality we have got we can always score,” said Dembele. “I don’t really listen to what is being said about me I just keep my head down and keep working. I was out with my knee and just tried to get back as we quickly as I can.

“Yeah my future is here and I’m enjoying it.”

Claudio Ranieri: “Leicester City Players Are Fully Behind Me”

Featured Image

Claudio Ranieri insists his players are fully behind him despite Leicester slipping closer to the bottom three after a 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United.

The Foxes made it very easy for United, who scored three goals in eight minutes either side of half-time, to pick up a comfortable three points.

Reports of dressing room unrest have circulated as the Foxes have dropped down the table, but Ranieri is adamant he has the support of his players, and they will stick together in order to secure their Premier League safety.

“Journalists ask about the players, and whether they are happy with me, and I can tell you they are happy with me,” Ranieri told Sky Sports.

“Until the first goal, we were in the match. We were playing to our philosophy, trying to press, trying to do something good.

“We are together, I have full confidence in the players, and also the players are confident with me.”

ICYMI: Zach LaVine Out For Rest Of The Season With ACL Injury

Featured Image

Zach LaVine suffered an ACL injury in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season as he’ll be needing surgery.

The guard suffered the injury in Friday’s 116-108 loss to the Detroit Pistons. He had an MRI done to diagnose the injury.

LaVine, who was averaging 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists, will have surgery at a later date, the team said.

“He’s made himself into one of the best 2-guards in the league,” Thibodeau said Saturday. “His overall game has really blossomed. He’s shooting the 3 great. The free throws, the drives. All of it. So he’ll get through it. He’s a mentally tough kid. And, as I mentioned, he’s already talking about what’s next.”

Towns said he was moved to tears when he heard the news.

“That’s not just my teammate — that’s my brother. That’s one of my best friends,” Towns said. “For him to have to go through that, it hurts me a lot. I’m just wishing him a speedy recovery.”

Clement: Referee Should Not Have Allowed City Goal

Featured Image

Paul Clement believes Manchester City’s second goal came as a result of a freekick that should not have been given.

Gylfi Sigurdsson restored parity in the 81st minute after Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring, only for the 19-year-old to score the winner from a freekick.

Clement believes Mike Dean made a mistake in awarding the freekick that led to the goal.

“The late goal, the circumstances I’m really disappointed about,” Clement told Sky Sports.

“First of all I don’t think it’s a foul from [Luciano] Narsingh on [Aleksandar] Kolarov. I think Kolarov went into a challenge on Narsingh and then Narsingh got out the way of him and he fell across him.

“So it’s not a foul and then the restart was 15 metres deeper than where the free-kick was – and it was a rolling ball – so those things have to be right for us.

“If the free-kick is taken where it should have been, we are in position and I don’t believe they would have had that attack.”

Guardiola: If Jesus Continues To Score, He’ll Keep Playing

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has stated that Gabriel Jesus will keep featuring for Manchester City as long as he keeps scoring.

The 19-year-old forward continued his fine start to life at the Etihad, scoring a brace in the win over Swansea.

Jesus was picked to lead the line ahead of Aguero, after impressing in the match against Tottenham.

Asked if Jesus would keep playing as long as he keeps scoring, Guardiola told Sky Sports: “What do you think? Of course, yeah.

“But it’s not just about the goals, we had a problem this season with the goals, but he has this ability. The first five, ten minutes against Tottenham he showed us everything, so it’s good. It’s necessary in teams to have one person who scores goals.”

“We are so delighted with what he has done,” Guardiola added. “He is a real fighter, wins duels and he is a striker with the sense of the goal. He’s 19 years old, so we are so happy, happy with what the club have done and to have him here.”

Mourinho Looking To Win Titles For United

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho believes he is an icon in all the club’s he has won trophies at and is looking to repeat the feat at United.

The Portuguese won the UCL at Porto, before moving to Chelsea and winning the Premier League and domestic cup.

Mourinho then joined Inter and won the Serie A, Coppa Italia and UCL treble. He also won the La Liga with Real Madrid, before returning to Chelsea for a second spell and winning the title again.

Pressed on what he has to do in order to become a club legend, Mourinho told reporters: “I have to win titles for the club, like I did in every club where I was.

“I am a legend in my clubs. I am a legend in Porto, in Inter, in Chelsea. I belong to their history really, really high.

“In Real Madrid I belong to their history. Manchester United I belong to the history because I have a picture in one room where all the managers are. But I won a Community Shield and nothing else.

“I think I am working really hard, harder than ever. But the reality is that the history is made by the numbers. It is made by the number of trophies.

“My history as a manager is made by 23 trophies. It is not made by second, fifth, lost a cup, lost the final. The history is made by victories.

“In another three competitions we can win – we are there.

“We have a 50 per cent chance of winning the League Cup. We are in the last 16 of the FA Cup and last 32 of the Europa League.”

While he is a proven winner, Mourinho concedes that he needs to establish a similar mentality in those around him.

He added: “That is why we win things step by step. Competing, learning how to feel the pressure if you have a final to play, a final to win.

“You have semi-finals. You are in the league. Your opponent loses 24 hours later. You need to win to recover these points. To feel this pressure. To cope in how to live with this.

“It is something that of course we don’t have enough of.

“And the ones with a history of success where that belongs to their natural habitat are Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick.

“Who else? Zlatan Ibrahimovic but not in our club. Antonio Valencia and not much else.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain Admits Trophy Is Slipping Away

Featured Image

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admits Arsenal are losing the race to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners might have to wave goodbye to the trophy for the 13th consecutive season after losing 3-1 to Chelsea.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain says he and his teammates will keep fighting for the trophy till the end.

“It’s slipped further out of our hands and there’s no hiding from that now,” the England midfielder said.

“The gap is much bigger and it’s going to be hard. But we play for Arsenal football club; if we don’t go until the end, we don’t deserve to be here. We’ve got to keep doing that.

“At the top level, against a team like Chelsea, there’s a good chance they’ll punish you if you make mistakes and they did that.”

“That was disappointing. Then a mistake at the end killed the game for us. Olivier (Giroud) got one back but at the end it was too late.”

Kurt Zouma can’t wait to get back to first team action, but says he is patient as Chelsea are currently in top form.

The defender has been eased into the squad after suffering an ACL injury that kept him out for 11 months.

“Watching the team doing well makes me happy, even if that means I am not playing,” he told the Evening Standard .

“The team is doing well and we have got some good momentum.

“Of course, I want to play but I want them to keep going.

“You just have to wait for your time and be ready when it comes. My chance will come again, for sure. I do not worry about that.

“JT is the captain, a legend of the club, and even he is on the bench. But we are a team. Is it difficult? Yes, because I want to play. But no, because we are doing so well at the moment.”

Ranieri: The Fairytale Is Over, But Leicester Are Not Losers

Featured Image

Claudio Ranieri says Leicester have accepted their fairytale of last season is over, but wants them to prove they’re not losers.

Leicester will host Manchester United today, with Ranieri under immense pressure for their poor performance.

The Foxes are 16th on the table and one points clear of relegation. But the Italian is confident his men will fight to avoid relegation.

“I can understand what we did last season was something special, a fairytale,” the Leicester manager said to Sky Sports.

“I was waiting for this kind of season last season. Then we made something extraordinary, out of the world. Everything was fantastic, everything was right.

“Everything now is wrong. I think we thought a lot about what we did last season – everything was fantastic and then we believed it was possible also this season. No, it’s finished.

“The fairytale has finished. Now it is the reality. Now you have to choose – if you are a loser, you say it’s gone. If you aren’t a loser you fight, you continue to fight, believe.

“I believe we can arrive, we must be together, together with the fans. The fans enjoyed last season and less so this season, but we are a family, we are strong.

“Now is the right time. If you are a loser in this sport, you are a loser also in life. If you are a gladiator, a fighter in this sport, in life you can be the same.

“The reality must come back, and from two seasons ago, the fighting until the end. I believe because my players are champions and fighters.”

‘Hazard Is Like Messi’

Featured Image

Roberto Martinez has said Eden Hazard has the abilities similar to that of Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.

The Chelsea midfielder is in impeccable form this season and scored a wonderful solo goal against Arsenal, as Chelsea stayed nine points clear at the top.

Hazard was below par last season but Martinez says Chelsea and Belgium have found a new way to get the best out of him this campaign.

“What he does is quite unique,” Martinez said.

“It’s that acceleration and stopping and standing still. He reminds me a lot of Messi. Not many players can control the moment and take the defenders where you want to take them.

“The way he uses the ball with his feet is sensational and what is surprising more than anything is his maturity.

“I think that Eden, at 26, is almost in the perfect moment of his career and the system that Chelsea plays, which is the same as we play in the national team, has really given him a new breath of life.

“Last season, as an opposition Premier League manager you were always aware of Eden Hazard and playing on the left wing it was probably easier to stop him having one v one situations.

“Now it is a lot harder to get him tied down.”

The Fall Of Buhari, And The APC

The Fall Of Buhari, And The APC – Sonala Olumhense

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

I extend to President Muhammadu Buhari my warmest sympathies on his sick bed.

It is a measure of the fragility of our democracy that an elected president insists on hiding his frailty from the people who are compelled to pay for his treatment abroad.  There is no hiding place in the constitution.

This piece was written by Sonala Olumhense. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Nonetheless, President Buhari is scheduled to return to Nigeria tomorrow.  He will be welcomed with at least one Lagos street protest that the police are trying to muzzle.  That would be another self-inflicted injury, and I urge Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to tell them to back off and go pursue Lagos’ many criminals.

I reiterate that it is a shame and an embarrassment that despite Mr. Buhari’s promises and posturing for many years, he sees no irony in running off to the United Kingdom for his medical needs, leaving behind the nation’s most expensive (and presumably best-equipped) publicly-funded clinic in the presidential palace.

This fact underlines a broader reality.  Which is that Buhari’s much-heralded leadership has become a farce, and his ability to make a positive impact on Nigeria, a hoax.

I was one of those who pushed for his presidency.  At one level was the mistaken confidence that his age-old claim to being the man best-prepared to stop Nigeria’s slide into oblivion was true.  There was no way to tell for certain he could deliver, but it was a strong and persuasive message: give me control and I will take Nigeria back from her army of leeches, shake them vigorously until there is none left of the blood they sucked.

His catchy slogan, just 24 months ago, was: “If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.”

I was an early buyer even before he found a catchphrase by which the children could sing in the streets.  In 2011, and again in 2015, I wrote advocacy pieces in which I affirmed that Buhari was “the missing link,” and “an opportunity.” If he fulfilled 10 per cent of his sloganeering, I hoped, the planting season would have begun.

At the second level, Buhari faced a rival for the presidency in 2011, but more especially at the tipping point in 2015, whose claim to any credibility was deeply flawed.  What seemed to be Buhari’s superiority of morality and mission was obscured by the nation’s hunger for change, and there was no means of rejecting Buhari without endorsing Jonathan.

As it has turned out, every one of us who stepped out of our comfort zone to support his leadership is not now merely disappointed, but betrayed.  Buhari’s words have proved to be emptier than a basket of water.  Every hope that he would bring enough with him for Nigeria to build on has drowned in a sea of poor policies, no-policies, and cynical manipulation.

To think about Buhari since May 2015 is to observe how power affects individual holders.  Sometimes, a man takes office and becomes a prime instrument for building that nation or that community or that era.  And then sometimes, a king assumes the throne clothed in layers of gold and the finest linen but only to expose his nakedness.  Buhari appears to be the latter.

Yes, Buhari is ailing now, but in nearly two years in office, it is not an absence of health that has held him back but an absence of will, temperament and capacity.  The president is not leading with strength, he is being led by his weakness.

Yes, Buhari promised to cleanse and change Nigeria, but it is obvious now that he was better in the chase than in the capture. He has diminished the broad expanse and potential of his office from an empire to a cave.

To be sure, some progress has been made in fighting Boko Haram, and allegedly in recovering some sums of money.  But given his and his All Progressives Congress’ (APC) loud bragging, this is but tokenism, and fear and regret are overtaking the land.

First, there is no holistic, transparent and consistent structure to the work of the Buhari government beyond the nepotism the president himself has demonstrated.  There is neither clear, strategic thinking about the issues, nor commitment to the quest for answers.

Buhari says he is fighting corruption, but corruption is thriving in every measurement that matters.  Buhari has done nothing of note to make anyone wake up in the morning afraid, or respectful, of Buhari.

Sixteen years of the Peoples’ Democratic Party that Buhari lampooned daily, and yet you can count on the fingers of one hand its members who are in trouble.  There is a ton of stolen funds all over the place begging to be creatively cornered and plunged into the national cause, but Buhari’s government would rather beg for foreign loans.

The naira has collapsed, and there is still no electricity, no commitment to the rule of law, no foreign investment, no jobs and no management of what we have: which all mean the same thing.

Yes, there is an armada of excuses, but deception and denial have become standard for the APC, which would rather steal the harvest of other farmers than start its own farm.  Party chairman John Odigie-Oyegun is going around the country prospecting for prominent Nigerians—particularly the vilest and most sordid—to defect to the party.

This is how far the APC, the party of “change” and of Buhari, has deteriorated in two years.  But that is too far, and were you to ask the legions who stood in long lines in the hot sun to vote and those who spurned hunger to wait until their votes were counted so Buhari could become president, all he has now earned is a ticket out of Aso Rock, not back into it.

Yes, Buhari spoke tough and acted tough in his first time around in office, in 1983-1985, but he would appear to have been standing on the shoulders of his hard-as-nails deputy, Tunde Idiagbon, God bless his soul.  For himself, Buhari has demonstrated neither mettle nor fettle in his second coming.  He is far more Goodluck Jonathan than Lee Kwan Yew.

Buhari marketed a product he could not manufacture, and the APC used Buhari’s legend to grab power in the centre.  He has compromised his own cause by treating it as if it were a private skirmish, perhaps to be drawn out over two terms of office and fought in the media rather than in the court of law and the court of personal example, and in which only the opposition, can remotely be guilty.   And he gives economic management a bad name.

Perhaps then, Buhari’s health challenge is really motion sickness: he is going around in circles so often he is dizzy and confused.

What next?  Unless a miracle has taken place and Buhari returns from London outfitted with the pacemaker Nigerians had hoped for in 2015, he has proved the era of faith in demi-gods to be over.  Younger Nigerians—if they can refuse to be bought and if they can see beyond narrow prisons and prisms of ethnicity and geography and religion—must unite and step forward and into the streets and into politics, and demand the soul of their country.

There is no answer any day soon, but through arduous—and inevitable—battles, lies the Promised Land.

Odion Ighalo Insists He Wanted To Stay In England

Featured Image

Odion Ighalo says his first choice was to stay in the Premier League before moving to China.

Odion Ighalo joined Watford in 2014 after an initial loan spell and scored 39 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets.

He told The Sun: “When the options came, my priority was to stay in England.

“West Brom came but what Watford wanted made it impossible to go there. Crystal Palace, too, showed strong interest but Watford’s demands put them off as well. It was only China that could give them what they wanted.

“On a personal level, it is good money for me but if I had my way I would love to stay in the Premier League.

“I have my family here, the kids are in school here, they have their friends here and getting that stability is never easy when you keep moving your family. But what can we do? Life goes on.”

He said: “I wanted to stay and play in the Premier League, I believed I still had more to offer.

“The money then was much more than this, even triple what I will be getting now.

“I was not interested but this season I wasn’t playing regularly, which is frustrating because, at 27, I want to play every weekend.”

Ighalo puts his poor form down to a number of factors, including the passing of his father last year.

Dropping out of the first team made him desperate for regular football again.

And he makes no apology for pocketing the bundles of cash on offer from the CSL in a league branded uncompetitive.

He said: “The truth is, once I got the words from the club and my agent that a deal was on, I had to check online by Googling the club and the city of Changchun.

“I found out they won the league in 2007 and played in the Asian Champions League twice, so I learned they have the tradition of winning.

“I have played in Norway, Italy, Spain and England, so why not China?

“People get paid for what they do in life. Football is my profession and if I get paid for doing my job, I deserve it. I want to go there and give my best.”

Ighalo also wants to return back to Europe after his three-year stint in Asia. And he will be wealthier for the journey, even if he would prefer to be in England.

West Brom Manager Tony Pulis Explains Mark Hughes Handshake Snub

Featured Image
West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has insisted that he did not shake hands Mark Hughes following the win over Stoke City as Mark Hughes did not stick around on the touchline.

Tensions have been brewing between the two camps following Saido Berahino‘s drawn-out transfer to the bet365 Stadium, which took another twist on Friday as it emerged he had failed a drugs test while at Albion.

Hughes admitted after Saturday’s 1-0 loss that he was aggrieved not to have been offered Pulis’s hand on the touchline, having disagreed on a number of incidents during the Premier League clash.

“I didn’t see [Pulis] to shake his hand,” he told reporters. “I was on the touchline for quite some time. He didn’t shake my hand before the game either.

“I would have thought, being a guest of the club, he would have welcomed me to the club. Perhaps he doesn’t like shaking hands? I have no idea.

“With most managers, you have moments of disagreements during games but, most of the time, you have a beer afterwards and forget about it.”

Pulis had a different view on the incident, however, saying: “I shook hands with [Stoke coach] Eddie [Niedzwiecki] and Mark was walking away towards their supporters so that was that.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Confirms He Liked ‘Wenger Out’ Tweet

Featured Image

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed that he “did not mean” to like a post on Twitter suggesting that Arsene Wenger should step down as Arsenal manager.

Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title suffered a major blow on Saturday as they were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea to fall 12 points behind the league leaders, resulting in ‘Wenger Out’ messages trending once more on Twitter.

Arsene Wenger said this week that he would make a “gut decision” on whether he would stay or go at the end of the season, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to accidentally added fuel to the calls for the Frenchman’s reign to end.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain  was caught having liked a Twitter post from popular Arsenal YouTube channel, Arsenal Fan TV, with a video entitled ‘Wenger Needs to Go!’

Oxlade-Chamberlain later confirmed that he had no idea that he had managed to like the tweet, and appeared to see the funny side of it.

“I didn’t mean to like that post earlier obviously…” he said on Twitter. “Didn’t even realise I had!”

Crystal Palace Fan Arrested For Invading The Pitch During Sunderland Trashing

Featured Image

A Crystal Palace fan has been arrested after invading the pitch to confront Damien Delaney at half-time during Sunderland’s 4 -0 victory at Selhurst Park

Lamine Kone had given the away side an early lead before three quick-fire goals led to chants of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” from irate Palace supporters.

The man appeared to grab the Palace defender’s shirt before being led away by security, while the player was substituted at the break, though Palace boss Sam Allardyce said it was not because of the altercation.

Delaney did not re-emerge from the dressing room after half time with Andros Townsend taking his place.

The Metropolitan Police released a statement confirming the arrest: “A 23-year-old man was arrested at half-time in the Crystal Palace v Sunderland game, after running on the pitch. He was arrested under the Football (Offences) Act 1991. The man remains in custody at a south London police station.”

Crystal Palace found themselves four goals down by the half-tie whistle, prompting an outpouring of boos and criticism by the home supporters, and the scoreline stayed the same by the end of the match, leaving them 19th in the Premier League table
