Chamberlain Eyeing Brit Cruiserweight Title

Featured Image

Isaac Chamberlain is hoping to extend his unbeaten run next month and hopes it gets him closer to contending for a cruiserweight title.

The British fighter suffered a dislocated shoulder in a boxing match against Camacho last September, but still won the fight.

Chamberlain will be fighting his next fight March 17, against an opponent that is yet to be determined, and he’s targeting the Briton belt, which is being contested by Matty Askin and Craig Kennedy a week earlier.

“I will be looking at that fight very closely,” Chamberlain told Sky Sports. “I’ll be studying that fight and trying to look for the flaws that they both have, and try to exploit that.

“I’m probably two fights away. That would be a good thing to do, but right now I’m focusing on my own progression, because I believe if I work hard and everything is 100 per cent in my training, then I don’t think anyone can beat me.

“It’s just all about progressing at this stage of my career. I’m still learning, but with the wins I’ve had so far, that’s boosted me right up.”

Haye: Wrong Time For Bellew To Fight Me

Featured Image

Tony Bellew has always mocked Haye’s choice to train in Miami, but he feels his opponent will come to regret it.

Bellew made fun of the heavyweight boxer hanging out with acquaintances and celebraties, questioning his preparation for their bout.

“I could turn up to this fight in the worst condition I’ve ever been in, and still knock him out inside one round,” Haye told Sky Sports News HQ about his March 4 showdown with Bellew

“But I’m actually happy training. In the past if I had this fight, I might not have done much training for it. But because I’ve come here, I want to train.

“I wake up in the morning and feel good, I want to push my lungs, I want to go for a swim, I want to do some sprints, hit the back for an hour. It feels good.

“So he’s definitely got me at the wrong time in my career. He probably thinks he’s got me at the right time, at the ripe old age of 36.

“But if you look at my career, I don’t have many miles on the clock. I haven’t been beaten up.”

Neymar Fears Barcelona Could Miss Out On Qualification

Featured Image

Neymar seems to have lost hope of Barcelona qualifying for the quarterfinals following their humiliating 4-0 defeat to PSG.

Angel Di Maria scored two brilliant goals and Draxler and Cavani scored the other two that went down well with the PSG faithfuls.

Barcelona must now attempt to scale a mountain that seems insurmountable and Neymar believes it’ll be hard to do so.

“It was an unusual game that hardly ever happens to us, but Paris deserve credit. They had a great game, they finished well and got to our goal well,” Neymar told reporters after the match.

“Now we have to think about the next game, to see what we can do to try to turn it around, which is very difficult – practically impossible. But we cannot give up.

“It’s very difficult to prepare for such a game. I do not think I’ve ever been in this situation.

“What I’m going to do is give my all in the next game so we can turn it around.”

Xavi Believes Guardiola Will Consider Signing Wilshere

Featured Image

Former Barcelona captain Xavi believes Pep Guardiola could consider adding Jack Wilshere to his squad at Manchester City.

Xavi and Guardiola first noticed the midfielder when Barcelona played against Arsenal back in 2011. And both men were impressed with the English man.

Wilshere has been in fine form on loan at Bournemouth and impressed in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

“I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere – he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011,” he told Fox Latin America.

“He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since.

“We have talked about him, it was not a performance you forget easily.

“Technically he is the sort of player that Pep loves – his only problem has been injuries – and if it wasn’t for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world.

“At the moment he seems to be doing well with his fitness – and if there is a chance to sign him in the summer – I am sure Pep will give it real consideration.”

Mourinho Says Shaw Won’t Be Playing In The Europa League

Featured Image

Manchester United will be playing Saint-Etienne in the last-32 and Mourinho has said he will not be starting Luke Shaw.

The last time the defender featured for United, was in the FA Cup 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic and his last League appearance was in October.

And Mourinho doesn’t seem ready to bring him him back into the fold as he is sticking with the back four he used in the 2-0 win over Watford.

He told reporters: “He’s not playing tomorrow because my team is playing well and I am happy with my back four, and I’m going to repeat Valencia, Bailly, Smalling and Daley Blind.”

United host the Ligue 1 side in the Europa League last 32 first leg and, despite the potential for fixture congestion, Mourinho is adamant they will not “throw away” the competition.

He continued: “If you ask me if I want to beat Saint-Etienne and progress I say ‘yes’. We don’t throw away competitions. It’s harder that the match against Manchester City is postponed.

“If we win against Blackburn, the match against Southampton will be also postponed. In case it happens, it’s going to create many, many, many, many problems.

“Playing Thursday, we have never got a Monday fixture to have an extra day of rest. I know for example that Middlesbrough will be played at Sunday 12:00 so if we progress and get a difficult match we then have to play Middlesbrough on Sunday at 12.

“It’s difficult also in the Premier League because others don’t have games. Liverpool only play Premier League, Chelsea play Premier League and FA Cup.

“We want to progress, tomorrow we go seriously and Sunday against Blackburn we go seriously too.”

360Recommends: Maka & Phlow – No One (prod. Teck-Zilla)

Featured Image

Over the past few years, Nigerian artists Maka and Phlow have dropped some fire collaborations together, including several off the latter’s great 2016 project, Mind, Body & Phlow. And that trend continues on with the release of “No One,” a romantically minded new track that seamlessly blends the best parts of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soul.

The two talented vocalists share their own unique thoughts on love and what it means to them in their lives. For Phlow, who opens the track, she reflects on the ups and downs of a turbulent relationship—and whether it’s worth it. Maka, on the other hand, comes across far more lovelorn with her sing-song verse, which boasts thoughtful lines like, “They say it’s addiction, don’t let it be my downfall.”

The smooth vibes of “No One” are supplied by another frequent collaborator and fellow Str8Buttah labelmate, producer Teck-Zilla. He layers looping and warming keys with finger snaps to set the mood, much like he’s done with Phlow and Maka in the past. And as for their future, Phlow is hard at work in the studio while Maka has a new single, “Sinner,” dropping soon. “No One” is now available for stream—Happy Valentine’s Day!

Verratti: I Want To Win With PSG, Not Barcelona

Featured Image

Marco Verratti had been constantly linked with a move to Barcelona , but he insists he wants to win titles with PSG instead.

The midfielder is said to be a target for Barcelona, as he has been compared with Xavi.

He has however refuted that claim and insists a comment attributed to him saying any player will join Barcelona has been taken out of context.

Addressing reporters after the match, Verratti said: “I wanted to say something now, I didn’t want to say it before the game but there is a report saying that I said I wanted to play for Barcelona.

“I never said that. You know my dream. My dream is to win here in Paris. Even if we had lost again Barcelona tonight I would not have changed my mind – I have faith in my club, faith in the project.

“When you are part of a big project, that makes you feel big. If I win here, it will be different to winning anywhere else.”

Nigerian Police Gets Approval To Recruit 10,000 Officers Per Annum

Featured Image

The Nigerian Police Force has been given the ‘green light’ by the federal government to recruit 10,000 policemen every year to address the shortfall in the numerical capacity of the Force.

2017 Recruitment: Army To Employ 12,000 Nigerians

This is contained in a speech issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Wednesday at the Force headquarters, Abuja, shortly after receiving Insps. Amina Wilfred and Rachael Danjuma for winning the 19th IBB Ladies Open Amateur Golf Championship.

2017 Recruitment: Nigerian Prisons To Recruit 6,500 Personnel

The police chief explained that the recruitment was necessary to strengthen the operational efficiency of the police to combat crime in the country.

He said, “We can succeed in community policing when we address the ratio of one policeman to 400 citizens. Recruitment of rank and file had been stopped and there is no where you can have an effective police if you don’t have enough policemen to police the population and that is one of the areas we are addressing now.

“This administration has come up with the recruitment of 10,000 police officers and we are going to ensure, because the President has given us approval, every year we are going to address this 10,000 policemen and these strategic issues we need to address to be able to tackle effectively the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.”

Nigeria Shares 11 Proofs That Show The Recession Is Almost Over

Featured Image

The federal government of Nigeria on Tuesday issued a report that lent proofs to why it believes that the economy is on its way out of recession that has humbled the nation for almost a year.

The proofs were contained in a report in Issue 23 of Aso Villa’s Newsletter titled: ‘Government at Work’.

According to Daily Post, the reasons stated in the report are summarized as follows:

1. Over-Subscription of FG’s Eurobond

According to the report, government targeted $1 billion but got $7.8 billion in one week, which has confirmed the confidence level of the international investment community in Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.

2. Growth in non-oil sector of the economy

The report states that agriculture grew by 4.54%, crop production is at nearly 5% (its highest since the first quarter of 2014) and the solid mineral sector averaged about 7% during the third quarter of 2016.

3. The Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) of the Central Bank of Nigeria

The programme substantially raised local rice production in 2016 (yields improved from two tonnes per hectare to as much as seven tonnes per hectare, in some states) and produced a model agricultural collaboration between Lagos and Kebbi states.

4. The Fertilizer Intervention Project

According to the report, the project involves a partnership between the federal government and the government of Morocco, for the supply of phosphate. It is on course to significantly raise local production, and bring the retail price of fertilizer down by about 30 percent.

5. Take-off of the newly established Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN)

With an initial funding of US$1.3bn (provided by the World Bank, German Development Bank, the African Development Bank and Agence Française de Development), medium and long-term loans to will be available for Micro, Small, Medium-scale Enterprises (MSME) for job creation.

6. A new Social Housing Programme

The programme is kicking off in 2017. The ‘Family Homes Fund’ will take off with a 100 billion naira provision in the 2017 Budget. (The rest of the funding will come from the private sector)

7. More than N800 billion released for capital expenditure in the 2016 budget.

The report claimed that this is the largest ever capital spending within a single budget year in the history of Nigeria. These monies have enabled the resumption of work on several stalled projects – road, rail and power projects – across the country.

8. Implementation of the Social Investment and Empowerment Programme (SIP)

All the four components of the SIP, the report noted, have now taken off. It described the SIP as the largest and most ambitious social safety net programme in the history of Nigeria, with more than 1 million beneficiaries so far: – 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries, 23,400 Government Enterprise and Empowerment (GEEP) Scheme beneficiaries, 1,000,000 Homegrown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) beneficiaries, and ongoing Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) payments across nine pilot states.

9. Strategic Engagements with OPEC and in the Niger Delta

According the report, the engagements have played an important part in raising expected oil revenues. Already, Nigeria’s External Reserves have grown by more than $4 billion in the last three months.

10. Collaboration with China

President Buhari’s April 2016 visit to China, has unlocked billion of dollars in infrastructure funding. Construction will begin on the first product of that collaboration, a 150km/hour rail line between Lagos and Ibadan, in Q1 2017.

11. The National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP)

The Federal Government’s medium-term Economic Plan, is due for launch in February 2017, and will chart a course for the Nigerian economy over the next four years (2017 – 2020).”

TSA: 20,000 Bank Accounts Closed As Nigeria Accrues N5.244trn

Featured Image

The federal government has said that about N5.244 trillion has been accrued to its Treasury Single Account (TSA) with over 20,000 bank accounts shut down.

The disclosure was made by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, on Tuesday in Abuja at a 2-day retreat to review the TSA implementation in the country.

According to him, sequel to the presidential directive in Treasury Circular dated August 7, 2015 that all ministries, departments and agencies should close their accounts with deposit money banks (DMBs) and transfer balances into TSA accounts, over 20,000 bank accounts, which were spread over DMBs across the country were collapsed into the TSA.

“As at 10th February, 2017, the total inflow of funds through the mop-up August 2017, the total inflow of funds through the mop-up and direct debits by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) amounted to N5.244 trillion,” he said.

Mr. Ahmed said the implementation of the TSA brought significant gains to the federal government and the Nigerian economy.

“We have successfully eliminated multiple banking arrangements, resulting into consolidation of over 20,000 bank accounts, which were spread over DMBs across the country.

“This has further brought about transparency and tracking of government revenues. It has also led to blocking of leakages and abuse, which characterised the public finance management before TSA implementation,” he said.

It is, however, unclear how much credit balance is left at the CBN from the TSA accruals as at February 10 but according to CBN data, the federal government’s TSA credit balance with the CBN as of 2nd December 2016 was N2.66 trillion.

The Nigerian Army has announced that it would employ the services of 12,000 Nigerians in 2017 in a bid to fight the current insurgency and other uprisings across the country.

2017 Recruitment: Nigerian Prisons To Recruit 6,500 Personnel

The announcement was made by the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai while speaking during a budget defence session with the House of Representatives Committee on Army.

According to him, the recruitment exercise would take place after the Army’s 2017 budget proposal of N152.8 billion is approved.

The COAS also explained that the exercise would be in two batches with 6,000 men first and another 6,000 later.

He complained that delay in release of funds was frustrating military operations nationwide, adding that the morale of troops must be boosted regularly.

Buratai said the Nigerian Army was currently engaged in different operations in 32 states of the federation, fighting criminalities such as kidnapping, terrorism, pipeline vandalism, cattle rustling, among others.

He also told lawmakers that lack of prompt release of funds was hampering military operations nationwide, adding that they needed to boost the morale of troops regularly.

The budget defence could not continue as lawmakers resolved to constitute a subcommittee, comprising senators from the Senate Committee on Army, to thrash some technical details contained in the proposal.

Celebrating Lust On Valentine’s Day Is A Sin – Patience Ozokwor

Featured Image

Veteran Nollywood actress and icon, Patience Ozokwor, has shared her thoughts on Valentine, even as she ‘prophesied’ that many unmarried women will get pregnant under the charade of celebrating the day.

The legendary actress who is now an evangelist said evil acts should not be associated with Valentine if at all Valentine was worthy of celebration.

Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, said this while preaching at the Power House Interdenominational Worship Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State on Tuesday during the grand finale of the church’s 40-day fasting and prayer programme.

She advised teenage girls to preserve their bodies, warning that many of them will end up getting pregnant during this year’s valentine.

“Valentine is not in the scripture and anything that is not in the bible should be discarded. Who is Valentine? The one that suffered for me and you is Jesus who should be celebrated.” She said.

“If the kind of love that Valentine has shown to people is for people to make love to each other without getting married, then it is against the will of God.

“People should show love to their fellow human beings on daily basis. Your neighbor is the first person that you should show love. Every day is love day for me and there is no special day that is meant for love. What people are doing today in the name of love is lust,” she added, urging pastors to speak against immoralities in the society and stop placing emphasis on wealth alone.

JAMB Set To Announce Sale Of 2017 UTME Form | Expects 1.7 Million Candidates

Featured Image

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it would soon commence the sale of the application form for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Beware! Fraudsters Now Selling Fake JAMB Forms Nationwide

The announcement was made on Tuesday by its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while fielding questions from journalists at the Information and Communication Technology Retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun.

2017 UTME: JAMB Issues New Guidelines For Registration, CBT Centres

Mr. Oloyede also disclosed that about 1.7 million candidates are expected to sit for the 2017 Computer Based Test (CBT) across the country, adding that they were also increasing the capacity of the CBT centres to maximise their effectiveness to examine more candidates within a given date.

He said: “What we are doing appears to be suitable to majority of our stakeholders. It is a surprise to us that we are apprehensive of what we wanted to do that maybe we are going to create problem. We are more confident to go along with the sale of the form for 2017 UTME examination.

“I believed that Nigeria is ripe for this. Nigeria is more advanced than some of these countries. At least, we have three or four countries that are observing our examination and they want to go the way of the conduct of the examination.

“We are expecting 1.7 million candidates and we want to make sure we satisfy these candidates within a week or there about. That is why we are increasing the capacity of the Computer Based Test centres to be able to examine more candidates within a given date.

“If we are talking about 1.5 million candidates, it means that in a given day about 60,000 or 70,000 candidates will take the examination.

“We have invited stakeholders to critique the process because we don’t want to go in the wrong direction. We are creating some ICT facilities and we want our stakeholders, prospective candidates, respected scholars, institutions, civil societies to come together and critique what we are doing, so that we can be sure, before we go too far in a wrong direction.

“This is with a view of harvesting good ideas that could improve what we are doing. We thought we are coming here to get dismantled, all we have put together, but what we are having are cheers that we can do it this way, or amend it that way.

“I must be frank with you, I cannot promise hitch free examination because we are testing certain things. We are changing certain things. We want to question the status quo and of course, we expect a fight back by interest that will be trampled upon.

“We are going to be as sincere as possible in the direction we are going. We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible. We are not promising hitch free examination.

“We envisaged that there will be hitches here and there, but they will not be insurmountable. Rather than promising the nation hitch free examination, we will be promising a direction we will all be pleased with.

“Initially there might be hiccups and of course one would not have been appointed if it is routine. I believe that I have been given a very difficult job and that is why I’m promising that it will be all smooth.”

Mr. Oloyede also said that JAMB would soon begin the sale of forms for the 2017 UTME.

Nigerian Returnees From Libya Recount Ugly Ordeal

Featured Image

Some Nigerian returnees from Libya have narrated their ugly experiences in the hands of Libyan officials while in search for a better life in the North African country.

Scores of Nigerians travel to Libya daily with the hope of landing in Europe by boat through the Mediterranean.

United Kingdom Deports 83 Nigerians

With the assistance of the International Organisation for Migration on Tuesday, about 161 Nigerians returned voluntarily from Libya after being detained for several months in the country.

The horde of ‘better life seeking’ Nigerians, who had travelled to the North African country with the hope of crossing to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea in search of jobs, arrived Lagos thanking their Creator for bringing them home safely.

This is just as several of them confessed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that their quest for greener pastures abroad had left them scarred.

One of the returnees, Miss Bridget Akeamo, an indigene of Anambra State, said her parents decided to send her to Italy when all hopes of securing a job after graduation faded.

Bridget, who said she left Nigeria August last year, was four months pregnant when she returned.

She said she was arrested by immigration officials while trying to cross to Italy from Libya.

Bridget said, “Ever since then, I have been moved from one prison to another until I was taken to a detention camp in Tripoli.

“We were subjected to inhuman treatment while in prison, from the food we ate to the water we drank.

“Most of the young ladies in detention camp were repeatedly raped by Libyan officials; and if you refused their advances, it would be hell for you.

“Thank God I am back in Nigeria. I know all hope is not lost, but it is painful that I will begin from scratch again with my unborn child.”

Stanley Iduh, a 34-year-old indigene of Delta State, told NAN that he was tricked by an agent popularly known as “Burger,” who promised to facilitate his journey to Spain through Libya.

He said that when his hope of crossing into Spain was dashed in Libya, he decided to stay back and work there.

He said, “I worked in a tile producing company and their salary was good, but unfortunately, I cannot save my money in the bank. I lived with other Nigerians. I dug a hole in the ground and hid my money in it.

“Unfortunately, one day, some Libyans came, kidnapped us and inflicted punishment on us. They asked us to call our relations back in Nigeria and tell them to send N300,000 as our ransom.

“The $200,000 that I saved disappeared; they moved us to another place until we got to detention camp.

“Nigerians should be discouraged from travelling to Libya because they don’t see us as human beings. Our ladies were dehumanised by Libyan officials. It is very painful.”

Iduh, who said he sold the house left by his late father before travelling to Libya, urged the federal and state governments as well as wealthy Nigerians to create job for the youths.

“It was because I was jobless for three years that I was cajoled to travel abroad to look for greener pasture. I am back in the country after eight months, devastated and humiliated. I have gone to look for greener pasture, but here I am today; I have brought nothing green back home,” he said; with tears running down his cheeks.

Paul and Marvellous Isikhuemhen are twin brothers who travelled to Libya in March and May 2016 respectively in search of better life.

Marvellous told NAN that they regretted travelling out of the country because of the bitter encounter they had in Libya.

He said though they secured good jobs in a publishing house in Libya, “it was a case of suffering and smiling’’ until they were given the opportunity to return home through the IOM.

The brothers urged the Nigerian government to stop young ladies from travelling to Libya, saying they were molested by Libyan immigration officials.

They said most Nigerian ladies bribe Nigerian immigration officers to secure travel documents to travel to Libya, adding that most of the children brought back home by these ladies have no fathers.

“I can boldly tell you that the children you are seeing in their hands and those pregnant ladies are products of Libyan immigration officers,” one of them said.

At least eight persons have so far died following the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in Nasarawa state, an official said on Tuesday.

Lassa Fever And Why You Need To Take It Seriously (Must Read)

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia, the Public Health in the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu, said that the number of people, who had contact with the patients and were being monitored, had risen to 82 from 66.

He said: “Of the 11 confirmed cases recorded since the index case in November 2016, eight have died while three others are responding to treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia.

“The three survivors in DASH are recovering very fast, two of them will be completing their treatment today (Tuesday) to be discharged while the other will complete his treatment by the weekend.’’

“All those identified contacts now under surveillance, have been placed on oral drugs and we monitor their temperature twice daily.’’

He said the state government had shown commitment towards fighting the outbreak by providing Personal Protective Equipment and drugs for the treatment of the disease.

Adamu further stressed that the reports making the round that health personnel are complaining of not having access to PPE is not true as the state government has provided adequate PPEs for the hospitals.

He explained that the PPE was meant to be given only to the health personnel giving service to the affected patients.

“There is a lot of anxiety for the disease, which makes everybody in any hospital where there is a confirmed case to want to wear the PPE.

“However, there is also a clear method of the transmission of the disease that people should be aware of and when the need to wear the PPE arises,’’ he said.

A source at Egba community also said a pregnant woman was hit by a stray bullet, adding that the six villages had been deserted.

“This is genocide on our people, as I’m talking to you now, six villages have been sacked, children and women have moved out of the affected villages, while many people have been arrested by the invading soldiers,” the source said.

However, the Brigade Commander of the 707 Special Force, Brig. Clement Apere, denied that soldiers attacked the people.

“The operation we conducted in the area was carried out in a professional way,” he said.

Also lending voice on the incident, the council’s sole administrator, Mr. Mike Inalegwu, denied the killing of people in Agatu communities but admitted the invasion of military personnel.

“There is no iota of truth in that, no one was killed, the military were only on the mission to recover their arms and ammunition,” he said.
