Haye: Bellew Is Like A Chihuahua

Featured Image

David Haye has said he saw signs of nervousness in Tony Bellew, as they prepare to fight for the first time on Saturday at The O2 Arena.

The pair were face-to-face for the last time at a press conference, before meeting in the ring and Haye was practically calm, as Bellew kept goading him.

The build up to the fight has been full of bad blood between the pair and Haye believes the WBC cruiserweight is starting to feel the weight of the fight.

“It is just nerves, he is nervous,” Haye told Sky Sports News HQ. “He is standing there, looking me in the eyes and he has to talk, that’s his MO.

“He is a Chihuahua, a Chihuahua just starts barking. I’ve got Chihuahuas, I know what they are like. They yap for no reason.

“They have to start yapping because they fear the big dog might come and bite them, so yapping might scare away the big dog.

“His yapping means nothing to me. I could see in his eyes, he was shook, it has got real now. It is all good and well, giving all the big talk prior to the fight.”

“He knows in just over 48 hours, he is going to be getting in a ring with me.

“None of the cameras, none of the security, none of his friends, it is just me and him in a ring with a pair of 10oz gloves on and a referee, who is going to count to 10 over his limp body.”

“Once that bell rings, it is about who is the better athlete, who is faster, who punches harder, who has the better defence, who has the better resume. All these things lead in my favour.

“He is the first guy who has really got under my skin, he has really forced me to get the best out of myself and he is going to be seriously humbled on Saturday night. He has put himself in a real dangerous position.

“He thinks just by eating a load of pork pies and puffing his chest out, he is a heavyweight. It doesn’t work like that.

“I have been campaigning as a heavyweight since 2008. This is his first rodeo and, unfortunately for him, he is in with the hardest punching heavyweight on the planet.”

Bellew: I’ll Deliver The Best Fight Of My Career

Featured Image

Tony Bellew, WBC cruiserweight champion has said he is ready to deliver the best fight of his career when he fights Haye at The O2 Arena on Saturday.

Both boxers will meet in a much anticipated grudge match on Saturday and Bellew doesn’t think Haye can handle 12 hard rounds.

Bellew thinks he saw signs of weakness in his rival, Haye, when they met at their final press conference on Thursday.

Asked what he had said to Haye, Bellew told Sky Sports News HQ: “I just said ‘the eyes don’t lie, the eyes never ever lie’.

“I looked in his eyes and he does not have the eyes of a man who believes the things he is saying.

“He said, ‘it’s a cruiserweight against a big heavyweight’, and then I had to bring him back down to earth and let him know, ‘there is no big heavyweight here, only Del-boy Chisora!’

“It’s cruiserweight v cruiserweight and I think that will show on the scales tomorrow.”

The 36-year-old Haye is styling himself as Hayemaker 2.0 and claims he is an even more formidable proposition than when he was heavyweight champion of the world, but Bellew is unconvinced.

“It’s unbelievable, this fella thinks he is John McClane out of Die Hard,” Bellew added.

“Hayemaker 2.0. What happened to 1.0? When I beat him on Saturday, is there going to be a Hayemaker 3.0, is that what I will be facing in a rematch?

“He’s just a boxer, a boxer who has had a few injuries. You’re still David Haye, you are not Hayemaker 2.0 or Hayefaker 3.0.

“He’s just David Haye, I’m just Tony Bellew, we are going to have a fight, loads of people are going to watch it, and that is just the way it is.

“I just have to be me. Will I have to give a career-best performance? Yes, I will. Am I capable of doing it? Yes, I am. Is he capable of 12 hard rounds? No, he’s not.

“The things I have just said, they are all facts. One of us is prepared for an all-out absolute trench war.

“I have prepared to be hit harder than I have ever been hit before, I have done everything I possibly can in camp.”

“I am nice and relaxed,” he added. “I am focused, I am calm.

“I know what is in front of me, I know the mountain, task and challenge I have got ahead of me and, you know what, I am going to find a way to get round it, get over it. I have to.

“I go into the ring every time with the same thought in my mind – just win.

“On Saturday night, when I make that walk out there, I will find a way.”

Borussia Dortmund Forward Ousmane Dembele Explains His Decision To Snub Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele has revealed he rejected the chance to join Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp made a late bid to sign him last summer.

“I saw Klopp in Paris but I told him I had made up my mind to sign for Dortmund,” Dembele told FourFourTwo. “I told [Leicester manager] Claudio Ranieri the same thing.”

Dembele is now plying his trade at Borussia Dortmund alongside another reported Liverpool target Christian Pulisic.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the forward, who is already known to Klopp from their time together in Germany.

However, the USA international recently signed a new deal at the club until 2020 in January and is focused on succeeding at Westfalenstadion.

“I have respect for Klopp and I know him – he was very welcoming to me here – but I was never really thinking about going to Liverpool,” Pulisic said.

Court Dissolves Nollywood Actor, Emeka Ike’s Marriage

Featured Image

Popular Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike and his wife, Suzanne Emma, have officially been split as a Lagos Island customary court ended their 17-year union on Thursday.

The three-man panel presided over by Chief Awo Awosola, which included Mrs Opeyemi Olanrewaju and Mr Kehinde Jacobs dissolved the marriage in a judgment following a petition filed by Suzanne.

“From all evidence before the court, the marriage between the couple had broken down, and it is irreconcilable, consequently, the marriage is hereby dissolved”, said the court.

Emeka Ike was granted full custody of the couple’s four children, but ordered that Suzanne should also be granted unhindered access to them. Both Suzanne and Emeka were granted 30 days to appeal the ruling if they felt the need to.

In the petition filed before the court, Suzanne accused the actor of incessant beating, molestation, and torture, which she said she could no longer endure. However, all her claims were denied by Emeka who pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage. He also informed the court that his wife had moved out of their matrimonial home five times without any reason.

The court also received a photocopy of a bank draft of N300 dated July 20, 2016, which  Suzanne used in refunding the bride price, paid to her family during their marriage.

In his autobiography Magic of the Game, which is being serialised inBild, the Arsenal midfielder writes: “Before I personally wanted to go to Barcelona. I was convinced to go there. No team in the world played more beautiful football at this time.

“But the absence of Pep Guardiola made me suspicious. When my consultant and I flew back from Barcelona, I asked him again and again. “Why was the coach not there?” His answer was always the same: ‘He was on vacation.’

“Guardiola did not call me in the following days either. He did not even send an SMS. He did not send me a signal that he wanted me to. After that my enthusiasm for Barcelona steadily declined.

At Least 3 Million Nigerians Lost N18bn To MMM – NDIC

Featured Image

The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has said that an estimated three million Nigerians have lost N18bn in the popular Ponzi scheme, MMM (Mavrodi Mundial Movement).

Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, Managing Director of the Corporation speaking at the ongoing 38th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Thursday. decried that despite repeated warnings by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other agencies, Nigerians still inested in the scheme.

He stressed that trading in the Ponzi scheme with Bitcoin, and other internet-based transactions were not in line with the Cental Bank Nigeria’s directives adding that any person who invests their money in the Ponzi scheme does so at their own risks.

He added, “The Ponzi scheme is the phenomenon of illegal fund managers, popularly called “Wonder Banks” which have continued to defraud unsuspecting members of the public of their hard earned money. This phenomenon has been a source for concern because despite our repeated warnings over the years, some members of the public have continued to fall victims of their fraudulent practices.”
“We would like to reiterate the fact that these fund managers are illegal as they are neither licences by the CBN to take deposits from members of the public nor are those who patronise them covered by the NDIC deposit insurance scheme.  I want to also draw the attention of some cooperative society which often go beyond their primary mandate by accepting contributions from members as cooperative societies are only recognised to mobilise savings from their members. “

Bellew Does Not Want Any Excuses From Haye

Featured Image

At the final press conference before their fight on Saturday, Tony Bellew has said he doesn’t want any excuses from Haye, who in turn said he’ll drag him through a world of pain.

Both fighters will slug it out for the first time on Saturday at The O2 Arena and Bellew immediately tackled rumours of an injury at their final press conference.

Haye was asked to dismiss talk of an Achilles injury during Wednesday’s media workout and Bellew would not want him to bring up any fitness problems after their grudge fight.

“It’s here now and I’m looking forward to it,” said Bellew. “I don’t really have much to say. It’s been a long, hard camp. I’ve enjoyed it.

“Nearly time to rock and roll. Let’s see what happens. The main thing is no excuses. They have been put out to the media. We all get sore, we all get knocks and bumps. This is the combat business, it’s called boxing.

“No excuses. I don’t want to hear any of them at all.”

The injury references by Bellew were brushed off by Haye, who believes he is an even more dangerous fighter after making his comeback from a shoulder injury.

“He said he wouldn’t beat the old David Haye, but the new David Haye is better than the old one,” said the 36-year-old.

“Saturday night, you are seeing a real destructive job. Knocking him down for 10 seconds does nothing for me.

“He has made things personal. If he wants to do that, I’ll make sure he never does that again. If he believes he can stop what I’m doing, he’s in for a world of hurt.”

N5.1tr Subsidy Fraud: Senate Orders Fresh Probe Of NNPC

Featured Image

The Senate on Wednesday ordered its Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) to investigate the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over claims that it mismanaged N5.1 trillion subsidy funds between 2006 and 2015.

The committee also sought the investigation into an alleged abuse of product marketing and distribution between 2006 and 2016.

Adopting a motion sponsored by Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) and titled “Discrepancies in subsidy payment and non-remittance of funds by the NNPC to the Federation account”, the upper chamber of the National Assembly directed the panel to exhaustively audit the accounts of the national oil agency as it relates to fuel subsidy and abuse of product marketing and distribution during the period under review.

Melaye expressed dismay that despite the crackdown by the Buhari administration, the NNPC has refused to remit funds to the federation account.

“The independent marketers account for 49 percent of the imported petroleum product, while the NNPC accounts for 51 percent of imported products, but this does not justify the huge amount it has been paid as subsidy in the last 10 years,” the senator said.

“From the records derived from the PPMC, 5 to 10 cargoes of imported crude arrives the country monthly, while about 5 cargoes are refined locally and each cargo contains 5.8 million litres of the refined crude products.

“The excess products which cannot be dispensed that goes into different tank forms owned by private individuals are not properly accounted for as they illegally sold off by the owners of these tank farms in a manner that is opaque and usually designed to rip off the public and enrich a few persons stupendously at the expense of the masses.”

Ozil: Mourinho Called Me A Coward And A Crybaby

Featured Image

Mesut Ozil has revealed that Mourinho once called him a coward and a crybaby during a heated exchange of words in the dressing room at Madrid.

Mourinho coached the midfielder for three years at Real Madrid, winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey.

Ozil has now revealed his contribution to the squad was called into question by Mourinho and he responded angrily to the Portuguese.

“Mourinho screamed at me ‘Do you think two nice passes are enough? You think you are too good to enter a duel. You think you are so good that you can play at 50 per cent. Do you know what it looks like when you enter a duel? Let me show you.’ He then tiptoed around the dressing room with his hands close to his body and pursed lips,” read an extract from Ozil’s book ‘Die Magie des Spiels’, which is being serialised in Bild.

“I lost it and screamed at him to go out there on the pitch and play himself, taking off my jersey and throwing it at his feet. I told him to put it on and go out there.

“Mourinho was just laughing and sniped ‘Are you giving up already? You are such a coward. What do you want to do? Get in the warm shower and wash your hair? Do you want to be alone? Or would you rather show your team-mates, the fans and me what you can do? You know what Mesut, why don’t you start crying! You are such a crybaby, get in the shower. We do not need you.’

“I grabbed my towel and walked past him into the showers without saying a word to him.

“I later apologised for my behaviour to captain Sergio Ramos and the rest of the team.”

Police Confirm The Death Of Notorious Kidnapper, ‘Vampire’

Featured Image

The Commissioner of Police for  Imo State, Taiwo Lakanu, has confirmed the killing of notorious kidnap kingpin, Henry Chibueze, popularly known as Vampire.

Chibueze while facing trial in an Owerri High Court on January 27 after being arrested was rescued by gunmen suspected to be members of his gang. This led to the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, immediately announcing a N5m reward to anybody that had any information that could lead to the rearrest of the 30-year-old Vampire.

CP Lakanu, while confirming the news to reporters in his Office on Thursday morning said that a combined team of the Inspector General of Police special squad, the Rivers State police command and his men had engaged Chibueze and his gang in the Ikwerre forest in Rivers state in the early hours of Thursday.

He added that while Chibueze was shot dead during the exchange of gunfire, five members of his gang were arrested together with arms and ammunitions. He, however, disclosed that the force headquarters public relations officer will be in the state at 12 noon to address a press conference.

Now That Osinbajo Is Inspecting Toilets

Now That Osinbajo Is Inspecting Toilets – Abimbola Adelakun

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo paid a surprise visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday and proceeded to inspect facilities that included carousels and the toilets. Afterwards, he told journalists that the airport was one of the major places where the government needed to ensure amenities work appropriately and that that the deficiencies he observed during his inspection would be corrected. I am not sure what Osinbajo saw in the toilets but from my experience, one of the best places to ever answer the call of nature in Nigeria is the Murtala Muhammed Airport. Anyone who inspects the toilets in those places can be forgiven for presuming that toilets in Nigeria are in fair condition and only needed a bit of upgrade here and there. If Osinbajo wants to see what toilets in Nigeria really look like, he will need a tour of Nigeria itself.

This piece was written by Abimbola Adelakun. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The toilet situation in Nigeria is a major cultural problem that colludes with failure of urban planning, rural neglect, and endemic poverty. Toilets at Nigerian airports, while they are afflicted by the malignant Nigerian factor, do not as much as give a glimpse of the severity of the problem. Anyone who wants to know what the toilet situation looks like in Nigeria should visit the NYSC camps or Nigerian university hostels to see the dehumanising conditions in which this country nurtures the intellect of her youths. When they are done, they should visit public hospitals where one visit to the toilet can make the patient lose the will to live.

Nigerian motor parks, incidentally, have public toilets where you pay to use them but the lack of hygiene in those places is another problem entirely. I have learnt to control my unease and look another way each time I am at a motor park and a driver or bus conductor opens his fly and pees on the wheels of the vehicle. I have found that there is no point telling them to go use a toilet when we are both aware that either the toilets do not exist or they are in such horrible states that it makes no difference whether people pee outside or inside them.

Some toilets in fast food joints in Nigeria are in such abject states that their managers should forever  be banned from touching anyone’s food. Every now and then, images of toilets in police or Army barracks surface and one cannot but wonder how a people made to subsist in such denigrating conditions can carry out their jobs with required level of human decency.

Some public schools in Nigeria still use pit latrines and there are documented cases of pupils falling into those pit latrines largely because nobody thought there should be enforceable safety standards for those so-called toilets. In fact, there are private houses where the owners never even considered including a toilet in the building at all. In 2016, Lagos State shut down some houses that did not have a toilet. It makes one wonder, how could anyone have ever conceived the idea of building a house without including a plan for a toilet? Even in places where people have toilets in their houses, the perennial problem of poor water supply drives them to use open-air toilets and they end up infesting nature with the acidity of their waste.

As far back as 1990, UNICEF indicated that about 23 million Nigerians defecated in public. Some 11 years later, the figure had exponentially increased by 10 million. Since 2011 when UNICEF presented that astounding figure, the number of Nigerians that practise open defecation has shot up. UNICEF estimated 39 million in 2013 and 50 million in 2015. By 2016, the problem has worsened to the point that WaterAid, an international charity organisation, estimates that over 71 per cent of Nigerians lack access to safe and private toilets while over 25 per cent practise open defecation. Nigeria is also the number six country in the world where people defecate publicly, a figure that comes to an average number of 50 people per square metre. Add to that fact that we are Number 3 in the world on the list of countries where access to sanitation is low. WaterAid also notes that a disproportionate number of people who lack access to safe toilets and sanitary facilities are women. A 2012 study shows that 69 per cent of women cannot safely use toilet facilities without the threat of suffering some form of violence and harassment. UNICEF also estimates that Nigeria loses an average of 150,000 children every year to cases of diarrhoea, a problem exacerbated by poor toilet facilities, unsafe water and overall poor sanitation. All these figures should be considered intolerable for a country like Nigeria.

About half of Nigerian households use makeshift toilets and pit latrines but this too has tremendous negative environmental impact. Some studies have indicated that our poor and unregulated sanitary culture results in faecal contamination of underground water. All around us, there are grave environmental implications of people peeing or defecating in gutters publicly on refuse heaps, behind walls and fences, in streams and in runnels. The effect is almost inescapable even for those of us who have toilets in our houses. We regularly walk through public places infested with the stench of bodily waste and take in other people’s excrement through our nostrils. Even worse is the fact that in some of the places where people practise open defecation, they do not wrap their faeces in biodegradeable materials. Their utter lack of disregard for the environment haunts the rest of us in multiple ways. Our physical health is affected by poor sanitary conditions and it takes time and resources to nurture ourselves back to health. The lack of basic sanitary conditions of our society animalises us such that the evolutionary link between us and animals begins to appear considerably short. Of course, we are also psychologically depleted by our helplessness at fashioning simple workable schemes that can ease our national toilet situation.

While Osinbajo is getting some praise for deigning to inspect where the common man takes a leak, I still think that no President needs inspect toilets any more than the minister of health needs to inspect our foods to know whether we are getting enough protein or not. The bigger picture is that Nigeria has a bad toilet problem that requires complex solutions. He cannot see that from the guided tours provided by bureaucrats and politicians who will not let him see beyond what they want him to see. He will need to see that Nigeria, as it is currently constituted, is a gigantic open-air toilet where all kinds of scatological activities take place. Many Nigerians are already inured to the wretched reality of our unhygienic environment.

To combat our national toilet problems, we will need policies, ideas, visions, and comprehensive programmes that align with the Sustainable Development Goals. Nigeria will have to confront the problem of water supply. There was a time when water used to flow into our homes from state water corporation agencies but now those neglected underground pipes are bursting their innards and spilling all over the place. This is a problem that will require reworking the structures of our state and local government administration and how they impede development initiatives. We will also look at policies that will enable us to process waste into energy. We will need to consider aspects of our lives – from lifestyle and social habits to weather patterns – that can help us work out schemes that can make access to toilets a reality. Finally, we will need to re-orient our people who may be used to their ways that stooping in public to relieve oneself is what only animals should do without self-consciousness. We are humans, we should be better than that.

Luis Enrique has announced he’ll be leaving Barcelona after three years as manager and Pep Guardiola is sad to see him go and believes only a few managers are better than he is.

Luis Enrique said he had few hours of rest when he managed Barcelona and would not be renewing his contract.

The pair were teammates for five years and Pep Guardiola also coached Barcelona once upon a time.

“As a Barcelona fan, I’m sad that we’ll miss the perfect trainer for Barcelona. In his three years [the team] has played unbelievable football. I understand him completely and I wish him the best,” Guardiola said.

“From a membership point, I’d like to thank him for all he’s done for the club. There are few better managers in the world than Luis Enrique. I still think they are the best team in the world. I’m upset he’s not going to be there anymore, but I wish him the best.”

Kevin Durant Out Indefinitely With MCL Sprain

Featured Image

Kevin Durant will miss at least four weeks after he sustained an MCL sprain and bone bruise on his left knee.

The Warriors believes he will be out indefinitely, but he’ll be evaluated again in four weeks.

Warriors are hoping Durant can return to the fold before the end of the regular season, which is in six weeks.

“At this time it’s just speculation to guess when that is,” general manager Bob Myers said in a conference call. “He’ll heal as his body heals. And when he’s healed and our doctors clear him and we feel like it’s safe, he’ll play. I want to know as much as you guys, but at this point the plan is just to re-evaluate him and see where he’s at in four weeks.”

Myers acknowledged a 10- to 15-minute window in which the Warriors thought Durant’s injury was season-ending.

“There was a moment where there was a potential different diagnosis,” Myers said, “but that didn’t last too long and most of it was let’s get another image to make sure we have a clear look at this, and that’s what determined the final diagnosis as I was told.”

Embiid To Miss Rest Of Season With Torn Meniscus

Featured Image

The Philadelphia 76ers have announced that Joel Embiid will miss the remainder of the season, after MRI showed the meniscus tear in his left knee is more pronounced.

Embiid has not played since January 27, dealing with swelling and soreness in his left knee. However, the area affected by his bone bruise has improved significantly.

The No. 3 overall pick in 2014 has played just 31 games this season after missing his first two seasons due to foot surgery.

Embiid has an average of 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the 2016-17 season. He also has nine double-doubles and is 37% from beyond the arc.

“Our primary objective and focus remains to protect his long-term health and ability to perform on the basketball court,” Sixers president Bryan Colangelo said. “As our medical team and performance staff continue their diligence in the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of Joel’s injury, we will provide any pertinent updates when available.”
