Mourinho: I Wouldn’t Have Sold Di Maria Or Chicharito

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has stated had he been in charge of United earlier, he would not have sold Di Maria or Chicharito.

Di Maria arrived at Old Trafford in 2014, but failed to settle under Louis van Gaal in his debut epl season.

The Argentine was sold to PSG a year after and Mourinho is unhappy with the premature sale of the midfielder.

“When I first arrived, I found a sad club. Manchester United sold players that I never would have sold, and bought players I never would have bought,” he explained to the BBC.

“I would never have sold Di Maria, Chicharito or Danny Welbeck, never, no chance.”

Tuchel: Aubameyang And Kagawa Are Doubts For Ingolstadt

Featured Image

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could miss out on the match against Ingolstadt due to an adductor injury and Kagawa is facing a late fitness test.

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Aubameyang is still suffering from the injury that kept him out of the DFB-Pokal match on Tuesday.

Tuchel is missing a number of attacking players, with Dembele out suspended, Gotze ruled out indefinitely and Reus out for a month , while Kagawa and Weigl are nursing knocks.

“Aubameyang is doubtful for Ingolstadt. We’ll have to decide tomorrow [Friday] if he can play,” Tuchel told reporters. “We have not just 11 good players.

“Weigl might try things later today, he was in rehab basically 24 hours after Hertha. Kagawa picked up a knock to his knee against Lotte. It would be a shame for Shinji if he had to miss tomorrow’s match, as he is in blinding form.”

Whyte Fires Back At Bellew

Featured Image

Dillian Whyte has called Tony Bellew a fake heavyweight and says he only needs six rounds to knock him out.

Bellew is contemplating remaining in the heavyweight class after beating David Haye at The O2.

Bellew dismissed a fight with Whyte, who believes he is a bigger name than any other heavyweight the Merseysider might want to face.

“I’m one of the highest ranked heavyweights across the board, outside the champions,” Whyte exclusively told Sky Sports.

“Tony Bellew says ‘I wouldn’t fight you, because you picked David Haye to knock me out in six rounds’. I’m like dude, even your sponsor on your shorts picked David Haye to knock you out. That’s why you were 16-1 or something silly like that. Stop talking rubbish and let’s fight.

“If you want to prove yourself as a true heavyweight then fight me.

“Me versus Bellew will make more money than any other fight he can get at the minute. Trust me, that’s a fact. I’m a bigger name here than Joseph Parker or Deontay Wilder.”

“Bellew struggled to knock out a one-legged man. He didn’t even knock him out properly.

“If he is struggling to knock out a one-legged man, how is he going to knockout a true heavyweight who always shows up to fight? It’s impossible.”

“He’s a fake heavyweight and he should go back to cruiserweight,” said Whyte. “If he wants to stay at heavyweight, he needs to prove to me and the world that he’s a natural heavyweight.

“I would knock Tony Bellew out in the first six rounds.”

Koeman: Barkley Could Be Sold If He Doesn’t Renew

Featured Image

Ronald Koeman has stated that Ross Barkley could be sold if he doesn’t sign a new contract committing his future to the club.

Barkley has been called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate , but has just one year left on his contract with Everton.

Chelsea have been linked with signing both Lukaku and the midfielder and Koeman says they may be forced to sell the England international.

“I think every situation is different,” Koeman told reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against Hull City. “Ross is a boy from Everton, and what we need to show to him is the best reasons to stay. Of course his situation is different because Ross is running out, next season is his last year of his contract.”

“It was no ultimatum. But football is a business,” Koeman said. “I think the player needs to understand this, it’s not an ultimatum but I spoke to Ross about a new contract and it’s up to the board to get that over the line. If not then the player could see a new future for himself, but that is normal, it’s not strange talk.

“At Southampton we had Clyne, he did not have a new contract and we sold him. The player has to understand that if he doesn’t sign a new contract, he needs to make a decision for the club so that they know what happens next year. Ultimatum is strong, I don’t like that word.”

Haye: I Will Be A Heavyweight Champion Again

Featured Image

David Haye has taken to Instagram to post a video of him saying he will once again be a heavyweight champion.

The 36-year-old British boxer has thanked his fans for their messages after his defeat to Tony Bellew.

Bellew overcame Haye in the 11th round of the encounter, however he came out with great credit, as he fought from the sixth round with an Achilles injury.

The former two-weight champion has had surgery done and says he will fight before the end of the year.

“The question marks were about ‘does David still want it, if the going gets tough?’ Yes, I still want it, I think I proved to everybody I did, and I am telling you all I will be the heavyweight champion of the world once again.

“Time will tell but I am doing everything humanly possible to get back on track, so watch this space.

“Thank you very much again for your support.”

Smalling: Mkhitaryan Makes The Difference For United

Featured Image

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan since his return from injury, lauding his brilliance.

The 28-year-old Armenia international initially struggled to fit into life at Old Trafford, but has found his form.

Mkhitaryan scored the only goal in the 1-1 first leg europa league game against Rostov and United face the Russian outfit today.

“Yeah, we are glad Miki is back, it is great,” Smalling told United Review.

“He had missed a few games but he came back and had an instant impact like he had never been away.

“It is great to have such great attacking options and Miki has been brilliant for us, because he is a threat that is very hard to defend against.

“As a player, he is very unpredictable. Every player in the world knows who Henrikh Mkhitaryan is. But it is one thing to know him and another to deal with him. I am lucky that he is on our team and I am not playing against him.

“He is often thinking one step ahead [in training], whether it is a pass or a dribble. He is deceptively quick as well and he is probably quicker with the ball than he is without, which is rare for a lot of players.

“He is a great, great asset for us.”

The 35-year-old last week announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the season.

Alonson started his career with Sociedad, but told Diario Vasco: “Everyone asked me about my future. Announcing it, I feel liberated. I only waited for the right moment to announce it, and the moment was now.

“[The possibility of returning to Real Sociedad?] It was an option that would have been good, because it would have closed a circle, but I think that it is better to leave it here and now.”

Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele tops Barcelona’s list of summer transfer targets, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 19-year-old has scored seven goals for the German side this term, as well as providing a further 14 assists.

However, AS say Barca may only have €25million to spend on new players this summer – unless they’re able to offload some current members of the squad.

West Ham Manager Slaven Bilic Replies Dimitri Payet: : “We Are Not Boring”

Featured Image

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has hit back at claims made by Dimitri Payet that he was bored by the team’s defensive play.

Payet said one of the reasons he left to join Marseille in January was because he couldn’t express himself.

But Slaven Bilic said: “I don’t want to go into arguing into players but all you have to see if you’re talking about tactics and the way we played is the statistics from last year and this year.

“Even our most recent game against Bournemouth [a 3-2 away defeat], it was not a lack of attacking that caused us to be in a situation where we lost the game.

“With the ball, last year and this year, we are creating chances. We are maybe playing too offensively, maybe that is the case.”

Bilic’s side enjoyed something of a renaissance when Payet was ostracised from the first-team and subsequently sold but results have been more disappointing over the past month.

West Ham are winless in their last four Premier League games but Bilic is confident that his future need not be up for debate, with the club expected to offer him a new contract at the end of the season.

“You know how it goes here,” he said. “After a couple of good results, everyone is talking about that. A couple of less good results, it is a different story.

“My situation hasn’t changed and I can cope with that.”

Everton Manager Ronald Koeman Unhappy With Romelu Lukaku

Featured Image

Ronald Koeman says he is not happy with an interview done by  Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, but is not worried about the striker’s future.

Lukaku, who has two years left to run on his contract, revealed his frustrations at wanting to win trophies.

“I’m not happy about that interview because if Everton is not a club with a lot of ambition then I wouldn’t be manager,” said Toffees manager Koeman.

“He has two years on his contract at Everton. Everybody knows there was an agreement and it’s up to the board to get the deal done. I think when we start again after the international break the club will mention a message on how is Romelu.

“If the player shows his commitment to the team, club, fans, even not signing a contract, is no problem for myself.”

Koeman has not ruled out disciplining Lukaku for his interview, conducted at a club-organised community event, but said Everton would make a considered decision on that.

He added: “First thing is you speak with the player, then I will speak with the board and we will see what will happen but then we have the international break so we have time enough with what we need to do.”

Lukaku has spoken regularly about wanting to play in the Champions League and as the Premier League’s joint top scorer with 19 goals this season he will attract the interest of Europe’s top clubs in the summer.

Everton fended off his former club Chelsea last year but even with two years left on Lukaku’s contract they may find it more difficult this summer.

Liverpool Planning Summer Move For Lyon Defender Jordy Gaspar

Featured Image
Liverpool are reportedly planning a summer move for Lyon defender Jordy Gaspar

The 19-year-old has made three first-team appearances for OL, but has yet to sign a professional deal, and could be free to leave as early as May.

AC Milan are also interested in the French youth international according to TeleFoot.

Both clubs have been watching the right-back since January and they are now ready to pounce before others wade in.

Indeed, both Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina are also interested in Gaspar – but they are yet to make concrete approaches.

Liverpool are in need of defensive reinforcements in the wide defensive areas, with Nathaniel Clyne the only recognised wide defender that is in the good books of Jurgen Klopp.

The German is also looking for depth at right-back while also looking for a more natural defender in the left-back position, which has been donned by James Milner, who is predominantly a midfielder.

Antonio Conte To Be Provived Funds For Four Summer Signings

Featured Image

Chelsea have promised funds will be available for head coach Antonio Conte to buy four key players in the summer and have already started drawing up a list of targets, reports the Evening Standard.

The January departures of experienced trio Oscar, Branislav Ivanovic and John Obi Mikel have led Conte to claim Chelsea’s squad was inferior to those at the disposal of both Manchester clubs, despite the Premier League leaders’ push for the title.

The Standard, however, claims Conte will have the opportunity to bolster his squad this summer, striker Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata on their shortlist, while the Blues will also be in the market for a centre-back and central midfielder.

Southgate: Defoe’s Form Hard To Ignore

Featured Image

It has been more than three years since Defoe has featured in the England squad, but he has been recalled and Gareth Southgate says he could not ignore his form.

The last time the Sunderland striker featured for the three lions was the match against Chile in 2013, coming on as a substitute.

Defoe has scored 14 goals for the bottom placed Sunderland and Southgate believes he must be rewarded.

“Year after year he is phenomenal but particularly this season in a team that perhaps aren’t creating as many chances as other teams,” Southgate said, whose England side will play a friendly against Germany in Dortmund on March 22 before the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on March 26.

“His strike rate is outstanding so I didn’t want to just look at his age and think ‘he is finished with England’.

“He is somebody that is immensely proud to have represented England at every age group.

“I think you get young players with a point to prove and older players with a point to prove. I think he still feels that.

“He warrants the call-up. I have to look at getting results short, medium and long-term. With this squad, we are definitely nodding towards the future with some of the decisions that we are making.

“But also you need senior players around that to educate some of the younger ones to show them some of the things they need to learn and also the competition is important.”

Just In: WAEC To Release WASSCE Results 60 Days After Exam

Featured Image

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it plans to reduce the waiting days for the release of its West African Senior School Certificates Examination (WASSCE) results to 60 days.

WAEC Releases Timetable For 2017 May/June SSCE | Check Yours Here

The Head of National Office, WAEC in Nigeria, Mr Olu Adenipekun, said that the waiting days will now be 60 days as against 90 days previously.

Adenipekun spoke on the sideline of the council’s 65th anniversary celebration which began on Thursday in Lagos.

According to him, the development is one of such steps being taken by the council to meet its mandates of delivering quality service to all stakeholders.

He said, “All hands must be on deck to ensure that the innovation, tagged: `Project 60’, is effective from this year.

“For sometimes now, we normally use about 90 days, from the day of the last paper of the examination to release the result.

“For the past 15 months, when I assumed office as the HNO in Nigeria, we have been working to reduce that `waiting period’ by 50 per cent.

“This is what initially brought about what we had also called `Project 45’ but we want to take it gradually.”

He said that for the 2017 May/June WASSCE, which is about to start, the intention of the board was to release the result within 60 to 65 days.

“So, this is how we came about ‘Project 60’; and in the coming years, the council will talk about `Project 45’, he said.

He added that council was hoping that in the next two years, it would be able to release results of its examinations within 45 days after the last paper is taken.

On whether the development was tied to the JAMB’s insistence that candidates should make their WASSCE results available as prerequisite for admissions, the HNO said that it was not meant to address any issue.

Adenipekun noted that one of the major objectives for introducing project 60 was to reposition the council and portray it as an organisation that was delivering its mandate.

According to him, WAEC should also be seen as being always ready to review its operations and delivery time.

“This may also come as good news for our current SSS 3 students, who are about to write the 2017 WASSCE.

“Basically there is need for our SSS 3 students to be happy because they are our principal stakeholders.

“I am sure reducing the waiting period will even make them happier,’’ he said.

Senate Drives Away Customs CG, Hameed Ali, Orders Him To Return On Wednesday In Uniform

Featured Image

The Senate on Thursday chased away the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali, after he appeared before its chamber in mufti.

The Customs CG was ordered to go home and return next week Wednesday being the 22nd of March 2017 in uniform.

Senate Vs. Colonel Hameed Ali: Undue Arrogance, Disdain And Impunity

It is understood that Ali, who dressed in white Caftan, white cap and black shoes to match, arrived the premises around 8:00am and by 9:30am, and went straight to the office of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, where he met with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Ali’s appearance without uniform, on Thursday, after his ‘initial’ failure to appear on Wednesday, was in contradiction to the resolution of the Senate which sought that he must wear “appropriate” uniform to brief them over the now suspended policy on duty payment.

Senate Seeks Arrest Of Customs Boss, Hameed Ali

This greatly displeased the legislators, who unanimously resolved to drive him away following George Sekibo’s motion.

When asked by Ekweremadu why he failed to appear before the lawmakers in uniform as requested, Ali said the Senate did not state in its last letter to him that he should appear in uniform.

“Coming was just one part of our invitation, another part is that you wear uniform. Why are you not in uniform?” Ekweremadu queried Ali, after he observed protocols.

“I Won’t Appear Before You On Wednesday” – Customs Boss Hameed Ali Replies Senate

The Customs CG then craved the indulgence of the Deputy Senate to refer to the letter forwarded to him on Wednesday.

After reading the content of the letter, he said, “this letter did not connote that I should wear uniform.”

‘Awaiting Results Candidates Can Apply For UTME’ – JAMB Clarifies Media Reports

Featured Image

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) on Thursday reacted to media reports that stated that “candidates awaiting results are not eligible to register and sit for the forthcoming Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination, (UTME).”

UTME 2017: JAMB Bans Awaiting Results Registration, Includes 4th Choice

Speaking on the matter, the Spokesperson of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, maintained that candidates awaiting results are ‘in fact’ eligible to register and sit for the forthcoming examination, however, he added that JAMB will not confirm any admission for any candidate with awaiting result.

Benjamin said that the clarification became necessary following the misinterpretations by many people on a press statement about its recently concluded restructuring exercise.

JAMB And Awaiting Results Candidates

The spokesman for the apex exam body also said that candidates who fail to upload their results between May and August, would not be confirmed to gain admission into any tertiary institution.

JAMB To Begin Sale Of 2017 UTME Forms In March

According to him, this would enable JAMB to give admission to only qualified candidates who are ready to advance their educational pursuits in tertiary institutions, conserve resources and also provide credible data.

He said, “Nigerians are still not clear whether candidates with awaiting results will write UTME examinations or not. Now, we want to make it categorically clear that candidates with awaiting results are eligible to register and sit for our examinations. However, JAMB will not confirm any admission for any candidate with awaiting result.

“All candidates who are desirous of tertiary education are to upload their O’ Level result on our website. We don’t want to be giving admissions to candidates that are not qualified to be admitted. It has been discovered over time that most of the times when these candidates are admitted, they don’t meet the requirements.

“You have from May up to August to upload your result. At the point of admission, we would have sieved our records and any candidate who has not uploaded his or her result at that point is not eligible for admission.

“We have a good number of candidates who have written their exams in years past and they have their results ready waiting for this process, we will factor those ones and the few ones that will get their results before August. We are not working for those that will be writing their exams. But if by chance you write your O’ Level examinations and UTME this year and your result is ready, good for you.”

Liverpool Offer 17-year-old Honduras Defender Wesly Decas Trial

Featured Image

Liverpool have reportedly offered Honduran teenager Wesly Decas a week-long trial.

The Sun say the 17-year-old left-back, who plays for Atletico Independiente, impressed scouts at a recent Under-20’s tournament.

Apparently the Reds now plan to take a look and decide whether to make a bid.

It is likely a compensation agreement would need to be reached with his current club back in Honduras, as well as personal terms with the player himself.

The Reds’ current upcoming young left-back, Juanma, is held in high regard at the club’s academy centre in Kirkby.

So Decas could find his game-time limited and he must decide if he wants to compete with the former Barcelona youth product for a place in the U23’s starting line-up.

Middlesbrough Sack Manager Aitor Karanka

Featured Image

Aitor Karanka has left his position as Middlesbrough head coach.

The Spaniard arrived to take training this morning but was immediately relieved of his duties.

In a statement, Karanka said: “I’d like to thank Middlesbrough for a wonderful opportunity and the players, staff and all the people at the club who I have worked with.

“I’d also like to thank the fans for their support. This club will always hold a special place for me and I wish everyone connected with Middlesbrough Football Club the very best for the future.”

Steve Agnew will step up from his role as assistant head coach to take control of the first team.

Karanka joined Middlesbrough in November 2013 and guided them to the Premier League last season after reaching the play-off final in his first full season in charge.
