Bauza: Icardi Must Be Patient For Argentina Call Up

Featured Image

Edgardo Bauza has said he would pick Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi, if one of his forwards gets injured and has asked him to be patient.

Icardi has only played once for the national team and was overlooked for the national team against Chile and Bolivia by Bauza.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paulo Dybala, Angel Correa and Ezequiel Lavezzi are among Bauza’s options in the latest group, but two players in particular are ahead of Icardi in the pecking order.

“I’ve told him: ‘Be calm, if something happens to [Gonzalo] Higuain or [Lucas] Pratto, I’ll call you’,” Bauza was quoted as saying by La Nacion.

“He’s happy, calm, no problems. He said to me: ‘I’m calm’. And I repeated that he could be called up at any time, and that no one in the national team has a problem with him.

“In my opinion he’s a good finisher, [but] not a player who you can involve in the collective play of the team.

“Of the three, Pratto is the best in this aspect, it’s just he doesn’t score like Higuain. Icardi is very dangerous in the final third, he has a lot of confidence right now.

“He’s not a player who helps a lot in holding the ball.

“Will I call him for the Brazil game on June 9? Maybe, but I don’t know.”

Conte Gives His Take On Mourinho’s Sale Of De Bruyne And Lukaku

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has given his take on Mourinho’s decision to sell De Bruyne and Lukaku when he was in charge at Chelsea.

Mourinho earlier stated he would not have sold Di Maria, Chicharito and Welbeck had he been at United during their time.

And Conte has been asked what he thinks about Mourinho’s sale of the two players and he gave an answer so diplomatic.

“It’s always very difficult to take always the best decision,” he said. “Sometimes it can happen that you think one thing and then, in the future, something else happens. A different situation.

“I think, above all, in football it’s not simple to give always a correct evaluation for players.

“Sometimes a player who, in the last two years or so, didn’t play well goes on to have a fantastic season. That happens. But it’s not right to talk about mistakes.”

“Signing Mamadou Sakho Permanently From Liverpool Will Be Tough” – Sam Allardyce

Featured Image

Sam Allardyce has paid tribute to the impact of Mamadou Sakho atCrystal Palace, but says any discussions about extending his loan deal from Liverpool may depend on staying in the Premier League.

“That would be a big negotiation if we’re still in the Premier League at the end of the season,” said the Eagles boss.

“At this moment in time he chose Crystal Palace to play first-team football. I think the’s settled into the environment exceptionally well.

“He’s worked extremely hard at getting himself fitter because having not played consecutive games all season you lose fitness.

“He’s shown what a good defender he is, but not just a good defender but also his capabilities on the ball.

“In possession he has been exceptionally good. In terms of us keeping possession and putting the ball in the right areas, allowing the attacking players to play.”

Should We Now Be Worried About Drinking Fanta And Sprite?

Should We Now Be Worried About Drinking Fanta and Sprite?, By Simbo Olorunfemi

So, here we are, the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc finally responds to the decision by the Court that the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) orders it (NBC) to put a written warning on Fanta and Sprite bottles stating that both soft drinks are poisonous when consumed along with Vitamin C.

This piece was written by Simbo Olorunfemi. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

There are many troubling dimensions to the matter at hand. But first, we must dispense with some preliminary matters. Though one is not fully privy to the particulars of this case, yet one must wonder why the court is ordering NAFDAC to order NBC to take action, having found favour in the objection raised by the UK authorities. Why can’t the Court simply not order the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Plc, which is a party to the suit, to take action?

CPC To Investigate NBC Over Fanta, Sprite Mixture Danger With Vitamin C

Even when one might understand why a window of 90 days is given to the company to put “a written warning that the content of the said bottles of Fanta and Sprite soft drinks cannot be taken with Vitamin C as same becomes poisonous if taken with Vitamin C”, one still wonders why the court did not deem it necessary to also order for a recall of the bottles already in the market to make them judgement-compliant. If a matter this sensitive has been caught up in the slow-grinding wheel of the court system since 2008, are we saying that even when judgement is finally delivered in 2017, it still did not call for an emergency action and order for the company to take immediate steps to prevent further risk of a possibly poisonous combination for Nigerians?

Also, still without the benefit of having read the judgement in full, it is curious to find out from the excerpts available that even though the court “is in absolute agreement with the learned counsel for the claimants that soft drinks manufactured by Nigeria bottling company ought to be fit for human consumption irrespective of colour or creed…(and) that the knowledge of the Nigeria Bottling Company that the products were to be exported is immaterial to its being fit for human consumption,” there is no record of sanction on the company or order for it to pay damages to either the claimant or those who might have been victims of what it considers gross irresponsibility on the part of NAFDAC “in its regulatory duties to the consumers of Fanta and Sprite manufactured by Nigeria Bottling Company.”

But importantly, it is the silence in which this sensitive matter has been shrouded that is even more worrying. Judgement in this matter was delivered on February 15, 2017, yet it does appear it did not make into the news chain until more than three weeks after. Indicting as that seems to be of the Nigeria media that a matter this sensitive ran a course of nine years in court without any record of coverage in the news speaks in eloquence to the state and mind of journalism practice in the country. It is shocking, to say the least, that NAFDAC, having not deemed it necessary to take any action on receipt of the concern expressed by the UK laboratory nine years ago, will still fold its arms and not issue a statement alerting the public to the possibility of this danger, weeks after the Court has entered judgement on this matter. All round, this speaks to the levity with which matters to do with the health and safety of Nigerians is treated by almost everyone charged with a mandate to stand in gap for the people.

Now, to the crux of the matter, which has to do with the level of benzoic acid, a preservative, in two of its products, which United Kingdom health authorities were uncomfortable with and on which basis the products were adjudged not fit for human consumption in that country, it is noteworthy that the defence by the Nigeria Bottling Company, from the excerpts of the judgement available, is that its products are meant for local distribution and consumption, as it does not produce for export, a position rightly not considered tenable by the learned Justice Oyebanji.

In a statement issued to the public, Nigerian Bottling Company has now gone further to shed more light on the matter. According to it, whereas, “the UK standards limit benzoic acid in soft drinks to a maximum of 150 mg/kg. Both Fanta and Sprite have benzoic levels of 200 mg/kg which is lower than the Nigerian regulatory limit of 250 mg/kg when combined with ascorbic acid and 300 mg/kg without ascorbic acid and also lower than the 600 mg/kg international limit set by CODEX.”

In other words, it is well within prescribed limits set nationally and globally and does not see the rationale why its products meant for the local market have to be assessed on the basis of the UK Standard. NBC argues that “the permissible ingredient levels set by countries for their food and beverage products are influenced by a number of factors such as climate, an example being the UK, a temperate region, requiring lower preservative levels unlike tropical countries.”

But then we must ask questions. Can we have a comparative analysis of the preservative levels of other tropical countries? What happens in countries that swing from one weather type to another, depending on the part of the country? Do they operate a uniform level or are products made region-specific within the country? In fact, what do we have to lose by aligning ourselves with the standard set by the United Kingdom, for instance? What have they found in UK that other countries might not have found? Or is still simply a factor of the nature of the climate there, as NBC has submitted? These are the questions both the manufacturer and regulatory authorities need to immediately provide reassuring answers to. That NAFDAC can be this quiet in the face of what one considers an emergency, both for the company and consumers, is troubling.

Whatever the case might be, I am concerned about the link between the premise and conclusion in Paragraph 6 of the statement by NBC in which it submits that “given the fact that the benzoic and ascorbic acid levels in Fanta as well as the benzoic acid level in Sprite produced and sold by NBC in Nigeria are in compliance with the levels approved by all relevant national regulators and the international level set by CODEX, there is no truth in the report that these products would become poisonous if consumed alongside Vitamin C.” I do not think it is sufficient or right to summarily conclude that on account of the fact that the benzoic level is within accepted standards, it then automatically means it cannot become poisonous if consumed alongside Vitamin C. I find it difficult to see how that premise justifies the conclusion arrived at there and will rather advise that we tread with more caution on this combination until, or unless the claim here, is that there is sufficient scientific backing that as long as the benzoic level is within that set standard, there is no risk that it becomes poisonous if consumed alongside Vitamin C.

But then, this is even beyond Fanta and Sprite. The more pertinent question brought to the fore by this are – Are there more things we need to be worried about? Can we be sure there is someone out there really looking out for the safety and best interest of Nigerians? To lose faith in an agency such as NAFDAC with charge over Food and Drugs is no good for the system. It has a lot of work to do redeeming itself.

Magu And Daura As Signifiers That Presidential Authority Has Crumbled

Magu And Daura As Signifiers That Presidential Authority Has Crumbled, By Jibrin Ibrahim

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

On December 19 last year, I published my column with the title, “The Magu Affair and the Crumbling of Presidential Authority”. I argued then that the issue was not the rejection of the nominee by the Senate but the subversion of presidential authority by the Department of State Service (DSS) that would work with the opponents of the president and send in a letter questioning the integrity of the person nominated by the president.

This piece was written by Jibrin Ibrahim. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The Senate on Wednesday rejected the re-nomination of the same Ibrahim Magu by President Buhari as the substantive EFCC Chairman after the SSS reaffirmed its position that the nominee would constitute a liability to the Administration’s anti-corruption campaign because he lacks integrity to lead the EFCC. This second failure is the clearest indicator so far that presidential authority has indeed crumbled and the president’s subalterns are playing their various games irrespective of the wishes and desires of the president.

The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to keep Mr. Magu on the job in his acting capacity in spite of the second rejection. The Committee’s chairman, Itse Sagay, in an interview reported by PREMIUM TIMES described the Senate’s rejection of Mr. Magu as “perverse” and insisted that he is the “best (man) for the job”. Mr. Sagay, a professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria said that: “We consider the rejection as extremely perverse, negative, not based on merit and a sort of vendetta.” Clearly they are missing the point. The DSS vets presidential nominees, so if they declare that the person who the president has been pleading for has failed the integrity test, the Senate cannot be blamed.

I am at a total loss on why the president did not instruct the DSS to withdraw the negative report, if he believed Magu has integrity. If he believes the DSS that his nominee lacks integrity, why did he represent and re-present him? I am even more at a loss on why the president met with the leadership of the National Assembly the day before the second screening and did not iron out the issues before the screening. Everyone I have discussed the issue with believes what we are witnessing is that the subalterns of the president are working at cross-purposes and pursuing their individual agendas, rather than that of the president.

In his remarks after the Senate had voted to reject Mr. Magu, the Senate President, Dr. Saraki expressed the expectation that President Buhari would consider it “normal” to replace the acting chairman. Clearly, his telling the president to remove Magu is an indication of the growing belief that there are no consequences to saying and doing things that the president does not like. The larger issue is that Mr. Magu was appointed acting chairman of the EFCC way back in November 2015, after the removal of Ibrahim Lamorde. There are questions surrounding the long delay in the search for confirmation. On the two occasions that his name was sent to the Senate, President Buhari was vacationing abroad. In fact, the first nomination was made via the letter signed by Mr. Osinbajo in June 2016. Could it be that the president does not support the nomination. In that case, why is his name still there?

As I argued in my last column on this confirmation issue, presidential authority is about the power to take decisions, to give directives and to enforce compliance to the said decisions and directives. When a president gives directives and state institutions under his authority take actions to nullify the directive, the implication is that they feel no compulsion to obey the president and that is a bad sign about the exercise of authority. I reiterate my position that the Senate is right to make the decision not to confirm Magu because a security agency directly under the president’s authority has questioned the suitability of the nomination. This is not to say that the Senate might not have ulterior motives for using the information provided by Daura, the D.G of DSS, that they have. The point, however, is that when there is disarray in the exercise of presidential powers, they have a responsibility to pause and question the process. I therefore have no problem with the decision to refuse Magu’s confirmation for the second time.

The legitimacy of President Mohammadu Buhari is based on the belief of Nigerians that he is deeply committed to the war against corruption. He searched for and appointed Mr. Magu because he believes that the choice will advance the struggle against corruption. Virtually all the leading civil society groups working on anti-corruption are of the view that Ibrahim Magu is doing a great job in investigating and prosecuting corrupt public officials. What is clear is that a number of key officers in the Administration are bent on frustrating the anti-corruption war. It was the Senate itself that revealed explosive information that indicted the Secretary of the Government for corrupt acts. The information was very damaging to the president because the alleged corruption involved money meant to help the starving population seeking to recover from the devastation imposed on them by the Boko Haram insurgency. There have also been allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President that no one has responded to. Ibrahim Magu might be a victim of his own success in fighting corrupt public officials who happen to be in positions of power in the Presidency. The message that Nigerians are getting is that those around the president are engaged in corruption and would not allow anyone to expose their acts. This is the fastest route to the dismantling of President Buhari as a leader committed to the struggle against corruption. If the president allows himself to lose his legitimacy, he cannot exercise his authority and that is what we are beginning to observe. The president appointed Magu to the EFCC in November 2015 and fifteen months later, he cannot get the appointment confirmed after two attempts. Where is the president’s authority?

Finally, there is growing evidence of intense inter-agency rivalry and conflicts within the security sector. Nigeria’s security situation is very fragile and it is imperative that all security agencies work in concert and synergy for the return of peace and good governance in the country. When they appear to work at cross-purposes, it is our security that suffers. Today, Nigerians are getting very worried that President Muhammadu Buhari is too weak to exercise his authority and his subalterns are taking the opportunity to do what they like. Let us hope and pray that the President can re-assert his authority immediately by ensuring that all his subaltern appointees obey his directives and support his policies.

“Bandit” Issa Hayatou Disgraced out of African Football

Yesterday, Issa Hayatou’s 29-year reign as head of the Confederation of African Football came to an end after one Ahmad from Madagascar beat him in CAF’s presidential election. Mr. Ahmad picked up 34 votes while Mr. Hayatou polled 20. Hayatou had illusions that he was the only one with the skill set to improve African football and believed he should lead the organisation to the end of his life. Unfortunately, his skill set is about corruption, manipulation and mafia style management. When Blatter, the bigger mafia boss was disgraced out of football, Hayatou should have seen the writing on the wall and retired honourably. As expected however, it was not possible for someone to change an approach they have followed for three decades so the only way forward was to boot him out in utter disgrace. As the new president said yesterday: “African football cannot be managed by bandits.” I wish President Ahmad and Executive Committee Member and the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick the best of luck.

Conte Insists Hazard Can Take Care Of Himself

Featured Image

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte does not think midfielder, Eden Hazard has anything to worry about, as he feels he can handle himself on the pitch.

The Belgium captain has been spectacular for Chelsea this season and was targeted by United players in the FA cup clash on Monday. Ander Herrera was sent off in the first half for two fouls on Hazard.

And Conte was questioned ahead of the match against Stoke about Hazard, but he feels he can take care of himself.

“I understand in football there are these types of situations and you don’t always face teams who want to play football,” Conte said.

“Eden is showing great football but also great character and personality in every game. He is a type of player who is very difficult to stop and for this reason you try to stop him with a good or bad way.

“But I’m not worried about this because Eden is very strong physically, and he’s showed me he’s able to play in this league. He’s not tall but he’s strong.

“During the game it can happen to get kicked, it’s normal, but the referee must pay great attention and try to respect the rules because football is a great sport.”

Ex-NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu Remanded In Kuje Prison

Featured Image

Andrew Yakubu, a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been remanded in Kuje prison on the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

PHOTOS: How EFCC Uncovered $9.8million From Residence Of Ex-NNPC GMD Andrew Yakubu

Yakubu, who was accused of stashing over N3billion in his house in Kaduna, was remanded on Thursday on the order of the trial judge, Justice Ahmad Mohammed, pending the time the court will rule on his bail application.

He was arraigned yesterday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a six-count money laundering charge.

This is following the recovery of $9.8 million and £74, 000 from his Kaduna residence.

Yakubu, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, had earlier claimed that the monies were gift he received from friends.

He was alleged to have, as “group managing director of NNPC, between 2012 and 2014, within the jurisdiction of this court, with intent to avoid lawful transaction, transported to Kaduna $9.7million and €74,000.’’

In ordering that he be remanded in prison, the judge rejected plea by Yakubu’s lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), to rather remand his client in EFCC custody.

“Raji, when somebody’s plea is taken, the prosecution no longer has control over such defendant who has become a property of the court.

“It will be a negation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to allow the prosecution to still retain the defendant in its custody. God willing, the ruling will be delivered on the next adjourned date,” the judge ruled.

Buhari Orders Release Of ‘More’ London-Paris Club Refunds To Governors

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to immediately release the second tranche of the London-Paris Club refunds to the states to ease their financial difficulties.

Buhari gave the order at the meeting of the national economic council chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja on Thursday, his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, said in a statement.

The directive is coming regardless of allegations that some state governors diverted the first tranche of London-Paris Club refunds which was released to the states last year to enable them offset the salary arrears of their workers.

“I will not rest until I address those issues that affect our people. One of these basic things is the issue of salaries. It is most important that workers are able to feed their families, pay rent and school fees, then other things can follow,” Buhari was quoted as saying.

The president, who was also said to have thanked the governors for their display of “love and respect” for him, added that he was overwhelmed by their kindness, particularly for shelving their political differences and tasking their citizens to pray for him in mosques and churches while he was on medical vacation in London.

It was gathered that he apologised to the governors for barring them from visiting him when he was in London, just as the governors were also said to have advised him to take more days off to get adequate rest.

“I didn’t want government to move to London. I wanted it to remain here and I am glad it did,” he said.

Klopp: Facing Manchester City Is Our Toughest Test

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp is looking forward to visiting the Etihad and Manchester City with his Liverpool squad on Sunday.

Liverpool are fourth on the table, one point and one spot behind Guardiola’s Manchester City ahead of the crunch clash on Sunday.

Even though Manchester City are out of the champions league, they’ve not lost in the league since January 15 and it is a task Klopp is relishing.

“I don’t think we are the favourites,” Klopp said. “That’s not too bad. We know that we can be difficult to play in games like this, that’s true.

“We’ve felt good in these games so far but for me City is the most difficult team to play. It’s real football, difficult to defend.

“We have to be at our best to get anything. If you get a little bit passive they play around you. I am really looking forward to this, it’s a real tactical challenge.

“It’s an important moment in the season, but I don’t think we should involve this type of pressure. We know that it’s possible to win.

“A lot of teams have failed [against them]. We know what we have to do, if we can do it, I don’t know. But we will try everything. It could be a fantastic game to watch.”

Carlo Ancelotti will be facing Real Madrid with Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the champions league.

Ancelotti managed and won the champions league with Real Madrid, their 10th European trophy.

He looks to win the title once again with Bayern Munich, but will have to beat his former assistant, Zinedine Zidane, who is now in charge of the club.

“The match against Real Madrid will be special for me. It is going to be exciting to play against them,” Ancelotti told a news conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Borussia Monchengladbach.

“We have a lot of confidence and want to win the Champions League this season.

“I think we have the ability to beat Real Madrid. But they have a fantastic team with a fantastic coach.”

“It’s difficult but there are no simple opponents in the quarter-finals,” Ancelotti added. “It is very exciting to return to Madrid but it is just a football match. We want to be the better team against Real.”

Lagos Wants Indefinite Shutdown Of Queens College Amidst Fear Of Mass Bacteria Infection Among Students

Featured Image

The Lagos State government has called on the management of Queens College in Yaba to shut down its school over the outbreak of water-borne disease within the school premises.

Speaking to pressmen on Thursday, Jide Idris, the state’s Commissioner of Health, said the school’s resumption should be delayed until appropriate health measures are put in place for the safety of the students.

There are strong indications that two students have died since the outbreak of water-borne diseases in the school, with more than 50 others currently on admission in the school’s clinic after eating spaghetti and drinking water in the refectory.

According to Idris, the results from samples taken from water sources in the school showed that the water was “polluted.”

“The results from the two laboratories showed high bacteria content in the water samples from kitchen, behind dining hall and Queens Delight, the school water factory,” said Mr. Idris.

“The bacteria range from Coliforms, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella ozoana, and Aeromonas hydrophilia.”

The school, a federal government-owned institution, is billed to reopen from its midterm break on March 19, but Mr. Idris called for a postponement because, according to results from school’s sick bay, onset of the students’ illness began on January 16.

“The total number of students who presented at the clinic on account of abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea was 1,222 from the first date of presentation (11/01/17) to the last date of presentation (15/02/17),” Mr. Idris said.

“There were four different peak periods of infection namely 31st January 2017, 2nd, 8th, and 14th of February 2017.

“16 ill cases were admitted in various hospitals. Nine have been discharged, two died, while one is still on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of LASUTH and three at LUTH.”

Meanwhile, some parents have threatened to take legal action against the school, saying someone must be held responsible for the two deaths in the college.

Koeman To Lukaku: You Won’t Force The Club’s Hand

Featured Image

Ronald Koeman has told Romelu Lukaku he would not succeed in forcing the club to sell him, with the Belgium international’s future in doubts.

The former Chelsea man has said he would like to leave the club, as he does not see a hint of ambition at the club.

Lukaku still has two years left on his contract and had been offered another deal at the club and Koeman hopes he signs the extension.

“The final word is always to the board of the club and if we don’t sell the player we don’t sell the player,” Koeman said.

“The people in the club are really strong enough to keep something and if we go to that direction it’s the final decision by the board of the club.”

Koeman met with Lukaku to discuss the striker’s controversial interview, and says moving the club into a position to challenge for the Premier League’s top four will not be a quick process.

“We spoke about this at the meeting that we had and I said it is not fair to speak about the club,” Koeman said.

“What we like to show, and what also we tried to explain, is you need time. I think if we can do what we want to do for next season then I think we can make the next step, yet even if with more quality or competition in the squad or better players, doesn’t mean you play Champions League football.

“Maybe Man United, Arsenal, City or Liverpool will not qualify for the Champions League and they pay money to play in the Champions League – it can be United or City or Arsenal or Liverpool.

“I don’t think it will be Chelsea or Tottenham but they spend money to play Champions League and one or two of them will not play in the Champions League.”

Boko Haram: Shekau Reappears In New Video; Tells Cameroonian President “Be Careful”

Featured Image

Boko Haram’s shadowy leader, Abubakar Shekau, has made his first appearance in months, dismissing recent claims of attacks by Cameroonian President Paul Biya, on its fighters.

While threatening world leaders in the 27-minute footage, the elusive kingpin, who spoke in the local languages Hausa and Kanuri, as well as Arabic, also claimed responsibility for a spate of suicide bombings.

In the video, which was obtained by AFP on Friday, Shekau can been seen in his usual trademark pose in front of a sub-machine gun, flanked by two masked militant fighters.

Shekau said the recording was made on Thursday and that he was “in good health”, contrary to claims he may be injured.

He however appeared subdued compared with previous appearances.

Criticising regional leaders, he singled out Cameroon’s President whose government on Wednesday said troops had killed 60 Boko Haram fighters and arrested 21 others in recent weeks.

Government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary also said more than 5,000 civilian “hostages” had been freed in operations along the border with Nigeria from February 27 to March 7.

But Shekau said: “We fought along the Cameroonian border. You lied that you killed 60 of our fighters, that you arrested 20 of our men, that you freed 5,000 of your people.

“Paul Biya, is it that you can’t live off lies? Is it with this that you are going to convince the West, your leaders? It is unfortunate. Be careful, Paul Biya.”

Toure Wants City Stay

Featured Image

Yaya Toure has credited Pep Guardiola with restoring him back to his top form and says he wants to remain at the club past this season.

He had problems with Guardiola at the beginning of the season, not starting with the first team for a while.

However, he has returned to the first team after making up with Guardiola and the former Ivory Coast international would like to remain past this season.

“Definitely. I love this football club,” he told Sky Sports when asked if he would like to stay.

“The day I will be done, I’ll know myself. I know my body and I’ll say, ‘Yes, I’m done’”.

Toure also admitted that while the early part of the season was difficult for him, he has Guardiola to thank for managing to get him back playing again at the top of his form.

“To be honest the manager was the one who tried to get my best,” he added. “Last year I was overweight, it was a difficult situation, there were a lot of problems with my family.

“I was talking with him most of the time and people were not seeing that on the screen. Those talks will stay between him and me. He knows what I can do and what I’m capable of doing.

“Like he said, he’s been honest with me. He is the guy that pushed me up, made me come back and that’s why I’m feeling respectful with him and that’s why I want to show him he was right.

“Psychologically he was quite hard. To manage a football player at this time is so difficult because football players have to deal with so many things.

“People have different ways of behaving. We are human beings as sportspeople and we have to understand that. He’s been clever in a lot of aspects, not just with me.

“He is a special guy in football and I think for me it was something quite bizarre in the beginning. I knew him from.

“Barcelona and Barcelona was tough in the beginning as well because the guy is a hard worker and he wants his players at 100 per cent.

“’Just do what I want on the field and we are friends. If you don’t, bye.”
