Antonio Conte admits the premier league title race has become quite interesting, after his side lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace.
The loss at Stamford Bridge ended Chelsea’s 13-game winning run at home, with Benteke and Zaha scoring the goals for the Eagles.
Chelsea now lead the pack by seven points , with nine games left to play. The blues will play Manchester City on Wednesday.
“For sure, for you [the media] it’s a good result, because it makes this more interesting in the championship,” Conte said. “But I always said the league finishes when you have the mathematical [certainty] that you won.
“Otherwise you must fight, you must play every game to try to win.
“In England it doesn’t exist an easy game. Every game will be very tough, from now until the end – if the team name is Manchester City or a team that is fighting for the relegation zone.
“They [Palace] played a good game, but we deserved at least a draw. We created many chances to score several goals. Palace just scored two goals in two minutes. We are disappointed with the final result.
“We tried to play, we tried to force situations to score, now it happens, and it is important to prepare for the next game.
“When you lose in this way you must be disappointed. You have to learn from these situations and try to win the next game.
“We played with a good intensity, created many chances, but it was not our day.”
Ronald Koeman doesn’t seem to like the behavior from Jurgen Klopp on the touchline, describing it as crazy.
Both managers exchanged heated words in a very physical Merseyside derby, that ended 3-1 in favor of Liverpool.
The Liverpool dugout did not seem too happy that Ross Barkley only got a yellow card for a high challenge on Dejan Lovren.
But Everton manager Koeman told Sky Sports: “I don’t like coaches from the bench the whole time shouting to referees and to linesmen and to make a big show about tackles. It was one tackle and they were crazy, even though it didn’t need a physio on the pitch.
“It’s not what I like, it’s a man’s sport and your behaviour has to be like that. It’s part of football. We don’t make a show like the Liverpool bench, we are different, we are into the game, and not about what happens with referees and linesmen and tackles.”
Gary Cahill has been impressed with N’golo Kante so far this season and believes he’ll get even better.
Kante is a favourite to win this season’s PFA fans’ Player of the year award, with his performances helping Chelsea to the top of the table.
Cahill believes the France international has been an integral part of Chelsea’s improvement from last season.
“We saw last season at Leicester how good he was,” Cahill told Chelsea’s match day programme, ahead of the Crystal Palace game. “To come in and deal with the pressures that come with moving to a club like Chelsea and adapt the way he has is a testament to him.
“For me and the rest of the defence it’s great to have him protecting us like he does. He’s come here and adapted straight away and improved even more.
“He’s going to keep working hard and keep improving, he’s still only young. He’s been absolutely fantastic for us this season, but it is important to say everyone has.”
Nigerian-American singer Jidenna, at the Vibe.NG forum titled “Community Meeting With The Chief: Album Versus Singles In Digital Era” recently held in Lagos said that his music, lyrics, sounds and collaborations are all geared towards building a bridge between people, races and nations.
He further explained that it is the reason his songs have a blend of different cultural sounds especially the high-life blend with hip-hop so that all can relate to it.
It will be recalled that Jidenna, recently released his debut album titled “The Chief” which he explained was named after his late father’s title status which he intends to attain through his music. He also revealed that he spent thirty days alone without seeing anyone to write the album.
He advised artists to see themselves as a small business and the earlier they realize that, the higher their chance of survival in the industry but if not, they could go into oblivion.
Jidenna said that one way he will push his songs in Nigeria is to do collaborations with Nigerian artists from different genres of music because he is versatile.
“I can decide to do a record with BurnaBoy, Wizkid or Davido,” he said.
Omalicha, a broadcaster and panelist at the forum, commended Jidenna for his album and how he was able to blend different sounds to make it cut across to both his fans in Nigeria and America.
Godwin Tom, Founder, IMANAGE AFRICA and panelist at the forum advocated for a need to educate people more because the more educated people in the music industry the more growth and development it will experience. The forum had panelists from the diverse areas of the music industry in Nigeria from Omalicha, a broadcaster to Douglas Jekan an OAP and Music Enthusiasts Godwin Tom, Founder, IMANAGE AFRICA and Micheal Ugwu, General Manager, Sony Music West Africa.

With respect to the ongoing recruitment, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has cautioned the public against the activities of fraudsters – disguising to be working as the organisation’s recruitment agents – with the ‘sole’ aim to extort money from unsuspecting Nigerians.
This caution was made by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the service, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, in a statement he made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.
With Benue candidates encountering more difficulties in their bids to register for the 2017/2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), banks in Nigeria and the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) have continued to trade blames.
While JAMB has accused the banks of causing the delays, the banks have shot back, arguing that JAMB was solely responsible for generating the Personal Identification Number (PIN), which was the main cause of the delay
Simeon Isimishere, the Operations Manager of Zenith Bank, Makurdi branch, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Makurdi that the banks were not responsible for the delays experienced by applicants seeking to register the JAMB examinations.
Mr. Isimishere expressed surprise at the allegations by Samuel Umuru, Head of JAMB office in Makurdi, that the banks were responsible for the delays and confusion.
“How can JAMB blame the banks? Generating the PINs is the main headache and that is solely handled by JAMB. The banks only issue what has been generated and given to them, so how can one blame them?” he asked.
He said the banks only receive the payments and issue the PINs.
“The problem is that after getting the PINs, most applicants are unable to access the JAMB website,” he said.
He explained that the initial PINs that were generated by the board had issues and could not be activated.
The official, however, disclosed that the banks were working with the board to resolve the issues and announced that the problems had been “brought down to the barest minimum”.
A cross section of the applicants, who spoke with NAN, however said that they were no more experiencing the challenges.
An applicant, Adasu Emmanuel, said that he had difficulties activating the PIN that was given to him from the bank and made several trips, from the bank to the JAMB office, to rectify the problem.
“Already, the problem has been fixed. We fixed it this afternoon (Friday),” he said.
Another applicant, Gloria Asom, who was still on the queue in the bank, also agreed that there was much improvement because “the queue is moving fast and there is no much confusion again”.
She said that the lines were moving fast, but added that applicants were returning to the bank to complain of invalid PINs.
Jose Mourinho is certain Manchester United will be making some interesting signings in the summer, in a bid to improve the team.
He confirmed that he has already given vice chairman, Ed Woodward the list of players he wants and alternatives.
The Portuguese knows it won’t be easy to land their main transfer targets, but is hopeful of securing the alternatives.
Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Brom at Old Trafford, he said: “I’m sure, at the end of the summer, probably we won’t have exactly my first options, because it’s difficult to succeed in every attempt.
“But I’m sure we’re going to do something interesting and something to improve our team for next season.
“I’m not a silly manager to say I give the names and you have to give me the players – not at all.
“I give the names, I give the options, I give the second options in case the first options are not possible, but I give all the information based on my analysis, my experience and projections for the future.”
At least 328 persons have been confirmed dead in the wake of the outbreak of the Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM), across some states in the country, while the Nigerian government has urged citizens to remain calm.
The Federal Ministry of Health, while responding to the current CSM outbreak, issued a public advisory note on how to curtail the spread of the disease, while Nigerians were advised to remain calm as the ministry is working to put an end to the epidemic.
A press statement signed by Boade Akinola, Director Media and Public Relations released on Friday, said the current outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis, CSM, has spread across the country, mostly affecting states in the part of Nigeria which fall within the African Meningitis Belt.
As at Friday, the situation report from the ministry showed that 90 local government areas in 16 states of the federation have so far been affected including Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Nasarawa, Jigawa, FCT, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Osun, Cross Rivers, Lagos and Plateau.
Further statistics from the federal health ministry showed that 2,524 people have been affected across the states – 131 samples confirmed in the laboratory indicated that majority were meningitis type C.
The outbreak started in Zamfara State in November, 2016.
The ministry has, however, advised Nigerians to remain calm as the disease is preventable and curable if presented early.
“We advise Nigerians to continue abiding by health advice which will be issued periodically as feedback of the situation will be given to the public”, it stated.
Militants suspected to be Boko Haram fighters have abducted 22 girls and women in two separate raids in northeast Nigeria, residents and vigilantes said on Friday.
According to AFP, in the first attack on Thursday, the jihadists raided the village of Pulka near border with Cameroon where they kidnapped 18 girls.
A community leader in Pulka said: “Boko Haram fighters from Mamman Nur camp arrived in pickup vans around 6:00 am and seized 14 young girls aged 17 and below while residents fled into the bush.”
“They picked four other girls who were fleeing the raid they came across in the bush outside the village,” said the community leader who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.
The official added that the attackers were loyal to the faction headed by Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf.
Barnawi was appointed last year by the Islamic State group to replace leader Abubakar Shekau, who had pledged allegiance to the Middle East jihadist group in 2015.
Confirming the raid, another resident revealed that the girls were likely to end up as brides for the fighters.
“They didn’t harm anyone during the raid and they made no attempt to shoot people running away from the village,” said the resident.
In the second incident outside the village of Dumba, close to Lake Chad, the jihadists killed a herdsman who had tried to escape after refusing to pay protection money, said Adamu Ahmed, a member of an anti-Boko Haram militia.
“When the Boko Haram gunmen came for the money they realised he had left with everything and they decided to go after him on their motorcycles,” Ahmed said.
“They caught up with him near Dumba where they slaughtered him and shot dead 50 of his cattle.
“They took four women from the man’s family and the rest of the herd,” he said.
The promotion of Barnawi had revealed divisions in the group, as Shekau had been criticised for mass killings and suicide attacks against civilians.
Barnawi and his right-hand man Mamman Nur, who is seen as the real leader, had promised residents in areas under their control would not be harmed as long as they did not cooperate with Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram.
Iyanya was at his waist-twisting and torso-baring best on Wednesday night when he unveiled his new EP, Signature. He rolled back the years by performing live songs from the highly anticipated 7-track album on stage at Hard Rock Café, Oniru, Lagos in an Industry Night Special.
Dressed in a colourful camouflage-jacket, the Mavin Records artist mounted the stage at midnight and left no one in doubt inside the packed hall that he was well and truly back. Like an artist with a blank canvas spread out before him, Iyanya jumped, whined and crooned on the big stage fully aware that it was his night for the taking, and he owned it.
On the same night, his seven-track EP was released online to a global audience and has since dominated discussions on social media. Entitled ‘Signature,’ the body of work was produced by Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy assisted by Altims and Baby Fresh.
Iyanya has been on a new lease of life since being backed by leading talent agency, Temple Management Company and Mavin Records. As if by celestial conspiracy, the Lagos weather even attested to Iyanya’s new found mojo as it gave way to heavy rainfall that poured while his performance continued safely inside the comfort of the walls of Hard Rock Cafe.
His performance was a medley of songs from his new EP such as Odoyewu, Hold On, Baby Answer, Not Forgotten, Celebrate, Nobody Has To Know, Bow For You and bonus track Up 2 Sumtin featuring Don Jazzy and Dr Sid.
Attesting to Iyanya’s new found vigour, Dr. Sid told the audience something many have never heard about Iyanya. The We Up crooner had joined Iyanya to perform the hit, Up 2 Sumtin. To buttress his point further, Dr. Sid went on to reveal how Iyanya is having a healthy influence on his Mavin Records colleagues.
“Iyanya is the best thing to happen to Mavin Records. He has made the rest of us look lazy with his work rate and I am not saying this because he is here. Iyanya has recorded over 50 songs in less than three months!” Dr. Sid exclaimed.
The most emotional moment of the night came when he performed a sober tune, Not Forgotten, the most introspective song off his EP and inarguably his most personal to date. For a moment, it seemed as if the singer would break down in tears.
At his request, Mavin Records producer, Altims played the piano in the background whilst Iyanya stood still, eyes shot and lost in his own thoughts for what seemed like forever. Iyanya is an orphan having lost his parents two years apart in 2008 and 2010.
For Iyanya’s Mavin Records colleagues, the night was a karaoke session as they sang ever song line-by-line with the musician. Iyanya would later describe the Don Jazzy founded group as a “happy company” and expressed how “blessed” he was to be a member of the biggest record label in Nigeria.
The late evening of fun also witnessed brilliant performances by two Temple Management artists, Gongo Aso crooner, 9ice and ex-winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa, Jeff Akoh. Jeff sang to a live band and served as a more than capable foil to Iyanya whilst 9ice performed his smash hit Living Things.
From a corner occupied by Mavin Records artistes, Don Jazzy danced and sang along happily through Iyanya’s performance. Virtually all the artistes on the label were present including Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, D’Prince, Dr Sid, Dija, Reekado Banks, Poe and DNA Twins. Other artistes and celebrities who came to support Iyanya include Tekno, Sheyman, Reminisce, Uche Jombo and Ebi Onome among others.
