Pochettino: Chelsea Will Find It Hard To Accept, If They Don’t Win The League

Featured Image

Tottenham head coach, Mauricio Pochettino has stated it will be a difficult pill for Chelsea to swallow, if they don’t win the Premier League.

Chelsea are in total control of the league at the moment, topping the table with a seven-point advantage with eight games left to play.

Conte believes there’s more pressure on Chelsea to win the title than their rivals. And with Tottenham in second place, Pochettino insists the title is Chelsea’s to lose.

“When you are seven points above the second-placed team with eight games to go, it is normal in the end to win the league,” Pochettino told a news conference ahead of his side’s clash with Watford on Saturday.

“It is difficult enough to affect your own team, even when you are with them every day.

“Now it is up to them to win the league. We are in a position where we need to do our job, win games and put pressure on them.

“But it’s true that if after the last eight games of the season they haven’t won the league, it will be tough for them to accept.”

Pochettino was quick to stress, however, that he was not attempting to engage in a mind-game battle with their title rivals.

“I don’t believe in mind games,” he said. “The ‘mind game’ is to provide my team with belief and character, which we showed at Swansea [in a 3-1 victory].

“So it is very difficult to affect other teams or managers by playing mind games, as you call them in England. We are strong enough. We are the closest team in the league to Chelsea – that is the reality.

“We are in a different project [from Chelsea], we are a different club. Our history is massive, bigger than many other clubs’ in England.

“From when we arrived [in May 2014], the mentality has improved every single day. Many good things have happened here in the last two and a half years. I am so happy and feel very proud of our club and our fans.

“Maybe after all the work we have done, one day we will start to be rewarded for the way we play football. That is the way we believe we can win in the future.”

Morgan To Miss Everton And Atletico Match Due To Injury

Featured Image

Craig Shakespeare has revealed revealed that Wes Morgan will not be available for the matches against Everton and the first leg of the UCL clash against Atletico.

Morgan has been absent for the last three matches Leicester played due to a back injury, but has taken part in light training this week.

However, Shakespeare feels it is too early for the centre back to return to action and says Yohan Benalouane will continue to play his position.

He said: “Wes Morgan is still out, although he’s put his boots on and been on the grass.

“It would be a lot to ask him to come back for a game of that magnitude in Madrid. I would want him to do a few training sessions first and at the moment that looks highly unlikely.

“It is a big loss but Yohan (Benalouane) has come in and done well.

“Wes, since I’ve been here, rarely misses a day’s training. It is a new experience.”

Asked if he might rest key players against Ronald Koeman’s side, just three days ahead of the reigning Premier League champions’ first ever Champions League quarter-final, Shakespeare added: “I’ll assess the squad over the next 24 hours.

“I’ll talk to the staff and I will pick a team who can win the game at Everton. My sole focus is on Everton, not Madrid.”

Conte Insists He Is Happy In England

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte insists he is happy in London and has no desire to return to Italy.

The former Juventus and Italy coach is doing so well in his first season in the EPL, as Chelsea sits top of the table with a seven-point lead.

Federico Pastorello, an Italian football agent has stated that the 47-year-old is open to return to Italy, even if Chelsea wins the league, with Inter Milan a possible destination.

However, Conte has distanced himself from such reports and says he has no links with the agent.

“I read the interview about Federico Pastorello. I don’t know him and I don’t know why this person has spoken about me,” Conte said ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth.

“I think I stay here, I am happy to stay here and this is the most important thing.

“I don’t like other people to speak for me. I have two more years on my contract with Chelsea, this is the truth.

“But it’s normal to try and involve my name in this situation because I worked in Italy and I think they want me to go back to Italy.”

Mourinho: United Still A Force At Old Trafford

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United are still a force to reckon with at Old Trafford and says their unbeaten run at home give him confidence for next season.

United have had numerous draws at home. They’re unbeaten in 20 premier league matches and only won 10 of those, drawing the other 10, including nine at home.

Mourinho admits Manchester United could have amassed more points, but he’s quite pleased to have a team that is hard to beat.

“I still think we are strong at home, that’s my feeling and looking to the next season I think it is a good feeling to know we don’t lose many matches, it is good to know we have a fantastic run of 20 unbeaten matches in the Premier League,” he said.

“I know, as an example, 10 matches, 10 draws are 10 points. Ten matches, five victories and five defeats are 15 points. What is better? The 15 points, obviously. But in terms looking to the future I prefer to look at 10 matches, 10 draws.

“You have something that is not easy to have; you are quite solid mentally, difficult to be beaten, fight against difficult circumstances, a kind of mentality of resilience is good to have it. But the points are reality and, I repeat, would be better for us in 10 matches to have five victories and five defeats.”

He added: “I still think in spite of the bad results, because for us a draw is a bad result, I still think we are strong at home. Why? Because we have lost only one game [against Manchester City] and that game we know why we lost.

“We lost because strange things happened during the match, so one defeat at home in all the competitions and what makes me think we are strong is the way opponents play against us because that is a big change.”

Wenger: Arsenal Will Be The One To Announce My Future

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has revealed that it is up to Arsenal to announce his future at the club and not him.

The long-term Arsenal manager had been under intense pressure to call time on his 20-year reign as manager of the Gunners.

And while he says he has made a deciaion he is yet to make it known to the public, whl are eagerly waiting on what it is.

Asked whether the announcement would come from him or Arsenal, Wenger said: “From the club.

“I have nothing to add. Of course [I am planning for pre-season games], but no [that does not suggest anything] – that suggests that I do my job, which is to plan for the future of the club.

“I cannot tell you now [if the announcement will be before the end of the season] because I don’t know. I’m focused now on the next game.”

Wenger was then asked on three different occasions if he could confirm the existence of a two-year contract offered to him by the club, but he would give no answer.

“I have spoken enough about that,” he said. “I have nothing to add on that. I cannot tell you anything more than I said many times.

“I can understand that the subject is maybe of an interest but to me what is of interest is what is happening on the football pitch.

“Sport is about your next performance. It is down to you to change things.

“What is to be professional is to focus on what is important – that means performance.”

The youngster has attracted interest from tip clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly interested in the striker.

Atletico Madrid President Not Planning To Boycott Prematch Meal At Real Madrid Over Theo Hernandez Speculation

Featured Image

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has dismissed suggestions he could boycott the prematch meal at Real Madrid on Saturday because Real have been linked with youngster Theo Hernandez next summer.

Left-back Theo, 19, has impressed on loan at Alaves and Marca reported earlier this week that Real would pay his €24 million release clause, breaking an unwritten gentlemen’s agreement preventing such transfers between the clubs.

A report on “El Transistor” claimed Atletico chiefs were angered by Madrid’s behaviour and would not attend the traditional meeting withBlancos president Florentino Perez before the teams meet in the derbi.

However, Cerezo told reporters he was unaware of any Madrid interest in Theo.

“I say the same as always — that whenever there is an important game, out comes a story about some transfer or signing, that someone is leaving or someone is staying.

“Real Madrid have not made any contact with us, not for the player or to organise the meal.

“We are invited to the Bernabeu on Saturday the same as we have been for many years.”

Cerezo said his relationship with the Madrid hierarchy was good, adding: “Why would a meal between friends before a game be in danger?

“Our attendance is confirmed as always. We will speak about Theo, this issue, others, lots of things.”

Mark Hughes Admits Record Signing Giannelli Imbula Has Struggled With His Form

Mark Hughes has revealed a decision on the future of midfielder Giannelli Imbula will not be made until the end of the season

Imbula has featured just 15 times for Stoke this season and has been linked with a summer move away from the bet365 Stadium.

“It’s fair to say Giannelli has struggled this year in terms of having an impact but any decision on any player won’t be made during the season.

“It’s not fitness or injury. He’s struggled for a bit of form and struggled at times to understand what is required in the Premier League.

“We all see his talent but there are other elements which aren’t as strong as his ability on the ball. He hasn’t had as many games as he or I would have liked – but he’s still got time and I hope he will impress in those.”

Report: Romelu Lukaku’s Return To Chelsea ‘Almost’ Complete

Featured Image
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is closing on a return to Chelsea, according to Calciomercato.

The Belgium international’s stock has risen significantly this season, with his 21 league goals for the Toffees propelling him to the top of the Premier League’s scoring charts.

Romelu Lukaku has publicly revealed he harbours aspirations of playing at a higher level and, subsequently, will not sign a new contract at Goodison Park.

The revelation has alerted Europe’s biggest clubs, and reports in Italy claim Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen to replace Diego Costa with Lukaku.

According to respected Italian journalist Massimo Marianella, the Blues could end up with more than one new hitman.
He told Sky Italia: “I think many big players will join Chelsea in the summer as Conte wants the Blues to become credible contenders for the Champions League win.

“I can say Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea move is almost done deal and reports in England claim Alexis Sanchez will also play for Chelsea next season. Many other players could also arrive [at Chelsea].”

Addressing speculation about Conte’s future, Marianella added: “I don’t know why people keep saying Conte is considering leaving Chelsea.

“I don’t see why Conte should be on his way out of the club. I don’t understand these kind of rumours.

“Conte lives in a great city, he works for an amazing club and the fans love him.”

AC Milan Midfielder Suso Raises Doubt Over His Future At The Club

Featured Image

Tottenham and Atletico Madrid target Suso has refused to rule out a summer switch from AC Milan.

The former Liverpool winger has shone in Serie A this season and has been linked with Spurs and Atleti in recent months.

Discussing his future plans and the possibility of returning to Spain, the Spaniard saidS:

“I have two and a half years left [on my contract] and I have always said that I am happy here, but we’ll see what happens in summer.

“[Would I like to return to Spain?] Hopefully. It’s always nice to return to your country, but I have [time] left on my contract and will have to wait until summer.”

“If I got an offer from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona or Real Madrid? We’ll see in the summer, I don’t know what will happen with the sale, and what kind of project there will be.”

Suso also discussed the Supercoppa Italiana triumph over Juventus in Doha in December.

“It was very nice, especially against Juventus, who were the invincible team that was winning everything.

“Milan had been missing a trophy for some time and we were the better team.

“Gianluigi Donnarumma? He’s a good lad, he’s young and he has a long road ahead of him, but everyone knows what kind of goalkeeper he is.

“Is he the heir to Gigi Buffon? These comparisons… He has to keep working to be the best, because he has the ability.

“Could he join Real Madrid? Don’t ask me, he’s been a Milan player since childhood and he’s very happy, but you never know in football.”

On his FA Cup-winning goal against Crystal Palace in 2016, Lingard added: “That goal is at the top at the moment. It was a very important season for us to come out with a trophy.

“Last season I had to work hard to get into the team. I did that and I have got to crack on this season as well.

“I have come on and progressed each season. I think the [pre-season] tours have helped me in that respect and going out on loan.”

No Buy-out Clause In Kasper Schmeichel’s Leicester City Contract

Kasper Schmeichel does not have a buy-out clause in his Leicester City contract, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Denmark international has been linked with a summer move away from the Premier League champions after what’s been a testing campaign.

Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United have all been linked with Schmeichel, who it is understood has no buy-out clause in his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The Mirror claim the lack of a clause means Schmeichel’s would-be suitors would have to fork out a large sum to prise the Dane away from the Foxes.

The club’s Thai owners are believed to have recently told Schmeichel they will not countenance selling him under any circumstances.

Leicester had to sell N’Golo Kante last summer when his buy-out clause was activated by Chelsea.

But City are determined to avoid flirting with the drop again next season after a stressful campaign which cost Claudio Ranieri his job.

Barcelona are interested in Real Madrid and Liverpool target Theo Hernandez, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Reports from Spain earlier this week claimed that Theo could leave Atletico Madrid for city rivals Real this summer as the European champions have decided to activate his €24m (£20.5m) buyout clause.

However, Real could also face competition from Barcelona, with Mundo Deportivo reporting the Catalans are keen on the 19-year-old too.

Hernandez, for his part, is actually French, but grew up in Atletico’s academy and is currently on loan to Deportivo Alaves.

Atletico Madrid have denied that they’ve refused to attend a pre-Derby meal with Florentino Perez because they are angered by his club’s attempts at signing one of their youngsters.
