Jose Mourinho Confirms Sergio Romero Will Start Ahead Of David De Gea For Europa League Tie

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Sergio Romero will start Thursday’s Europa Leagu equarter-final second leg against Anderlecht ahead of first choice David de Gea.

The Argentine has seen more game time of late, starting against Sunderland and in the first leg of United’s Europa tie, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Brussels.

“He’s not my goalkeeper for the Europa League, he’s my goalkeeper for tomorrow,” the manager told reporters. “He was my goalkeeper in the other matches, but he’s not my goalkeeper for the Europa League. I never like to do that complete separation. I can say the priority for Sergio is to play in the Europa League, yes, but we had some matches where David played.

“David’s priority is to play in the Premier League but I don’t like the complete separation. I cannot say every match is for one or the other. The reality is that Sergio is very stable, he’s very experienced, he’s playing very well. He played in the Premier League [against Sunderland], he played well. He played in the FA Cup, he played well. He played in the League Cup, he played well.

“Every time he plays, he plays well. He’s very stable and it’s very important to have goalkeepers playing because if not, then one day you could have a problem when one goalkeeper has to play and doesn’t have the feeling of the match. I always like to rotate my goalkeepers in different competitions but without that complete separation of ‘this competition is for me, this competition is for you’.”

Jurgen Klopp Admits Liverpool Have To Be Careful With Roberto Firmino

Featured Image

Roberto Firmino reportedly trained away from the rest of his teammates on Wednesday, completing yoga exercises and stretches rather than intense drills.

Firmino has become a key figure in the Reds’ campaign to finish in the top four as he has netted twice in his last two Premier League games.

In total this season, the 25-year-old has scored 11 goals and made six others in 31 appearances in the top flight, but Klopp is wary of overworking the attacker, who has played in all but two league matches.

“It’s been a very difficult week, with Roberto especially because we really need to be careful with him,” The Mirror quotes Klopp as saying.

“He’s our all-time player, he plays nearly each game. I think we did well with it in the week and having him back together with Phil [Coutinho], of course, is very important for us.”

The suspension is coming almost five months after the Senate called for the sack and prosecution of Lawal, over allegations of financial impropriety.

The president also ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process against Lawal in the award of contracts as the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

Buhari also ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amount of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, on which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.

Similarly, the President has also directed the suspension of the Director General of the NIA, Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Work Permit: Indonesia Bans Michael Essien And Carlton Cole

Featured Image

Indonesian government on Tuesday banned Michael Essien and Carlton Cole from playing until they get work permits.

The ban is coming after their new club did not obtain the necessary documents for the ex-English Premier League players.

The two players were signed last month by Persib Bandung, one of the country’s best clubs, in a boost for Indonesian football as it seeks to bounce back from a FIFA suspension and launch a new league.

However, the government-backed Professional Sports Agency found the players did not have the required work permits.

In admittance, the management of the club said it had not finished processing the paperwork for the pair before they made their debuts in the country’s new top-flight Liga 1 at the weekend.

After calling in the players and Persib’s management for questioning, immigration authorities said Tuesday the pair would not be able to play until they obtained the permits.

“Today we gave a strong warning to Persib in the form of a letter saying that as long as Persib had not completed the permits, which should be issued by the manpower ministry, we are banning Essien and Cole from playing,” said Maulia Purnamawati, the immigration chief in Bandung, the city where the club is based.

Persib said they would abide by the ban while working to get the permits. Joko Driyono, the secretary general of the country’s football association, said they would help the club in obtaining the documents.

Persib said it had sought to process the paperwork a few days before the stars’ first match on Saturday. The permits were not ready on time, but the football association and league organiser gave them permission to play.

Driyono told AFP the association had granted permission for Persib to field Essien and Cole over the weekend because the process to get the permits was “not easy nor fast”.

Speaking on the incident on Tuesday, a top military source disclosed that “our men were outgunned and outnumbered.”

“We lost five men in the fight. Five more were injured,” the military officer who sought anonymity because he was not authorised to speak about the incident said in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Mustapha Karimbe, a civilian assisting the military, said the jihadists took military vehicles and burned three armoured cars along with makeshift sheds at the checkpoint.

“The terrorists attacked the soldiers… and remained in the village for three hours before they withdrew,” said Karimbe.

This was the second attack on the same military checkpoint in under a month.

Late last month, jihadists dressed in Nigerian military uniforms attacked the checkpoint and forced soldiers to withdraw before looting food and medical supplies from the village.

Nigeria To Stop Uncertified Teachers From Classroom As From May 31

Featured Image

The Federal Government has said that uncertified teachers – those without Professional ‎Certificate of the Teachers’ Registration Council (TRCN) – will not be allowed to teach beyond 2017.

The Registrar/Chief Executive Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Olusegun Ajiboye, who made the disclosure in Ibadan on Tuesday, averred that the Registration Council will put a stop to normal registration on May 31, 2017.

While admitting that the council has registered no fewer than 1.6 million teachers since he assumed office, Ajiboye said those that register on or before May 31, this year ‎would be exempted from the professional qualifying examination.

This he said during the 3-years Ministerial Strategic Plan by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu which is designed to end unqualified teachers in Nigerian classrooms.

He said that the first examination of TRCN would hold at the end of September 2017.

The examination, he explained, was designed to fully professionalise teaching and ensure that only those qualified were employed by government for quality assurance.

The professional qualifying examination, according to Ajiboye is designed in modules comprising category A (PhD holders), B (Master degree holders), C (Bachelor degree holders), and D (NCE holders).

Ajiboye however said the induction in higher institutions will continue while the examination will be infused as part of the requirements of induction.

“By the end of 2017, Nigerian children will be taught by only qualified professional teachers who can deliver the quality education desirous for the elevation of our children and our country. Professionalism ‎is the key for entering into the profession. Those who do not have what it takes cannot be trusted with the lives of our children. We are out to ensure a guaranteed future for our future leaders by ensuring that those who teach them are the best around. This will translate to higher performances and better value for professional teachers. The professional examination takes place by September ending and it is the first of its kind and we have structured it into modules of different categories. This is in line with the 3-year Ministerial strategic Plan education policy of the Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu.”
