“Monaco Wants Revenge Against Juventus”

Featured Image

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyez says the Ligue 1 side are out for revenge when they play Juventus.

The semifinal of the UCL has pitted the best defence against the best attacking side in competition.

Monaco faced Juventus in the 2014-15 of the champions league in the quarterfinal stage and lost 1-0 on aggregate.

Vasilyez knows Juventus are better than they were two years ago, but says Monaco have also progressed.

“It will be a matter of revenge, clearly,” he told reporters. “We’re better than two years ago, no doubt about it.

“At this level of competition, we knew we were going to play a big team. All teams are on top.

“We played Juventus two years ago in the quarter-finals and since then they have strengthened themselves.

“It is only the happiness of being at this stage of the competition. We will do everything to qualify. Juventus can defend but we know we score goals.

“Our team sets no limits, they are young, talented and not afraid. We lack a bit of experience because it will be the first semi-final for all of our players.”

Southgate: Ugo Ehiogu One Of The Best I Played With

Featured Image

England manager Gareth Southgate has paid tribute to his former teammate, Ugo Ehiogu who passed away earlier today.

Ehiogu was in charge of the U23 team at Tottenham and suffered a cardiac arrest, and Tottenham released a statement saying the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender passed away today.

Ugo and Southgate partnered in the centre back at both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough and won League Cups at both teams. The England boss praised the contribution of his former teammate on the field of play and is devastated by his demise.

He said: “I’m stunned and deeply saddened by Ugo’s passing and clearly my initial thoughts are with his wife Gemma, his children and his family.

“I know that football will be grieving because he was so highly respected by everybody he worked with and losing him at such a young age is difficult to come to terms with.

“Most importantly, he was a gentleman and he is one of those characters that people would find it difficult to have anything bad to say about him.

“I probably played more games with Ugo than anybody else in my career and while in many ways he was a gentle giant away from football, he was a colossus on the pitch. It felt like a true partnership with Ugo because we were prepared to put our bodies on the line for each other.

“We shared highs, lows and won a couple of trophies together with Villa and Boro and it’s those memories that I will always cherish when I think of Ugo.

“He was one of the most professional people I played with in terms of how he applied himself to his job and it was great to see him progressing though the coaching pathway with that thirst for learning.”

“I’ve spoken to several of our former team-mates today and there’s just a sense of disbelief that we’re having these conversations,” he said.

“Ugo was a credit to football, a credit to his family and he will be missed by everybody who was lucky enough to know him.”

Conte: Terry Will Be Missed

Featured Image

Antonio Conte says he respects John Terry’s decision to leave, but admits the veteran defender will be sorely missed.

The 36-year-old Chelsea skipper announced on Monday he would be ending his 22-year relationship with the Blues at the end of the season.

Terry has won 14 major titles throughout his stay at the club, but has slipped down the pecking order under Conte, with Azpilicueta, Luiz and Cahill favored in the back three.

“I am not surprised about this [the reaction]. I am repeating that John, for me in this first season, is very important. He is helping me on and off the pitch,” Conte said.

“He is a great captain, the problem is that John wants to play regularly and for this reason we have to respect his decision. I was a footballer and when you arrive at this point of your career, and your body tells you to continue it is right to.

“We have to respect his decision. If you ask me if next season it is a serious loss…yes, I think so. I am seeing what John is doing this season in the changing room. We are building a foundation and he is important to this.”

Luiz On Tottenham Clash: It Is Ugly Guys Vs Monsters

Featured Image

David Luiz is prepared for a physical battle he expects from the most physical team in the league, when Chelsea play Tottenham on Saturday.

Chelsea go into the match on a low note, having lost 2-0 to United, with Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth closing the gap at the top to four points.

Luiz sees no toxic relationship between the rivals, but has conceded Pochettino’s squad is monstrous.

“For me, they are an amazing team with an amazing coach,” said Luiz. “I think it is the best physical team in the league. All the XI guys are monsters. I love that team. It will be a difficult game for us.

“We need to be ready to play against one of the best teams in this league. It will be a nice game because it is a semi-final. Chelsea also has some monsters, some ugly guys like a monster. Some guys who play like a monster, like [N’Golo] Kante.

“Different kinds of monster. No [I joke], it will be a fantastic game. Two teams in amazing shape. It will be top quality to watch and we have to play top quality to win.”

Hoffenheim Manager Julian Nagelsmann Warns Striker Sandro Wagner Against Bayern Munich Move

Featured Image

Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann has revealed star striker Sandro Wagner could follow in Seb Rudy and Niklas Sule’s footsteps and switch allegiances to Bayern Munich this summer.

“Bayern is a matter of the heart for Sandro, but I also know what makes him tick. He doesn’t like to sit in the dugout,”

“He has to decide for himself, but I would not do it in his place,” Nagelsmann is quoted by SportBild. “And I also do not think he would be incredibly happy there…if he always sits next to Carlo Ancelotti.”

Rudy and Sule has already agreed to join the Bundesliga champions at the end of the season and reports suggest Bayern boss carlo Ancelotti is keen to sign Wagner too.

Hoffenheim are just two wins away from securing Champions League qualification, though they face a battle for third with Borussia Dortmund.

Nagelsmann said: “I’m not putting too much pressure on us to be third or fourth now. Of course, it would be better for us if we were third – that is clear.

“The season is already a victory for the club, for the region, for the team.”

Antonio Conte Hints John Terry Might Not Start For Chelsea Against Tottenham

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has dropped a  hint that club captain John Terry will not start against Tottenham this weekend.
Gary Cahill is a doubt for the game at Wembley on Saturday after being taken ill during the week, which was revealed on Friday to be down to gastroenteritis, leaving club captain Terry as seemingly the obvious choice to step in.

Terry, 36, has struggled for game-time this season, making only ten appearances in all competitions

The Chelsea boss told a press conference on Friday: ‘This is a semi-final and in this season we try to have in every position two options – the player that usually players and another.

‘When John plays it is more central, but that is David Luiz. I have to think about the right solution.’

Chelsea’s other options in central defence could be Kurt Zouma, or Nathan Ake, who is still yet to play for the first team after being recalled from his loan spell at Bournemouth in January.

Conte confirmed that Thibaut Courtois should be fit to face Tottenham after picking up an ankle injury which saw the goalkeeper miss the defeat to Manchester United.

Top Nigerian Politician ‘On The Run’ As EFCC Discovers N6billion In His Bank Accounts

Featured Image

A top Nigerian politician is on the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after a total sum of N6billion was traced to his bank accounts, Premium Times reports.

The EFCC Mess Gets Messier

The suspect, Kantigi Liman, a former Commissioner of Local Government in Niger State, may soon be declared wanted by the anti-graft agency after N2billion was traced to his United Bank for Africa account by the commission.

This is after the agency had weeks earlier traced N4billion to two accounts in GTBank, both linked to Mr. Liman.

An EFCC insider told the online newspaper that the discovery brings to N6 billion funds traced to accounts held by the politician and companies linked to him – with the first account belonging to Sadiq Air Travel Agency Limited and the second to Kantigi.

Sources close to the polity have said that the politician, who was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 election, is now on the run.

“He is on the run and all efforts to track him down have been futile. The next option left for the Commission is to declare him wanted,” the source said.

The source further disclosed that investigations so far indicated the funds were siphoned from the local government joint account of Niger State.

“The Commission desperately wants Liman, to confront him with the available evidence,” the source said. “He is believed to rake in a monthly interest of over N33million on the fixed deposits.”

The 32-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a calf problem, was photographed at Shanghai Disneyland at the same time his Chinese Super League side were facing Changchun Yatai.

Outgoing Sevilla director of sport Monchi says he is destined for Roma“unless there is a twist”.

The 48-year-old, whose full name is Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, is leaving Sevilla after almost three decades with the La Liga club, and he has been heavily linked with a switch to the Italian capital.

And, on Friday morning, Monchi admitted he is likely to accept an offer from ambitious Roma, currently second behind Juventus in the Serie A title race, barring a late change of circumstances.

“It is not finalised but it is close to being finalised,” he told AS. “If everything goes as planned then I’ll join Roma, unless there is a twist.

“I remember when Marcelo arrived on a plane to sign for Sevilla but ended up at Real Madrid.

“That’s why I don’t want the bells to ring out until everything has been tied up.”
