Africa’s #1 Music Service, Boomplay Rolls Out Its Pre-Order Feature!

Featured Image

Boomplay Music, Africa’s fastest growing music streaming and download service, has introduced its pre-order feature to content providers, giving its users the opportunity to reserve personal copies of music from their favourite artistes before the music is released.

This is the first time in Africa, a music service will launch the pre-order feature, one that allows content providers to smile to the bank, as Boomplay Music launches yet another way to curb music piracy.

The pre-order feature is available on the latest version v3.1.1 launched on May 2. Users who are using an old version will need to upgrade their app to the latest version either via in-app upgrade or Google Play Store to start enjoying this feature.

With this new development, music lovers can now order for content by their favourite artistes by making payments before it is released, using the various payment options available on Boomplay Music app such as Airtime, Paga, PesaPal etc. Once payment is complete, the users will be notified on the release date.

Offering the pre-order feature puts Boomplay Music in a category of similar music services like iTunes, with the payment aspect positioning Boomplay at an obvious advantage since users can easily make payment using their mobile airtime.

Based on feedback accumulated from beta testers, Boomplay claims the pre-order feature will enable its users to stay ahead when it comes to music releases, thereby making them pacesetters in the industry, since they will always be the first to get, discover and consume new music as it drops.

Joe He, Director of Boomplay Music, stated that the pre-order feature was launched as a result of the many requests from content providers, who wanted to identify their true fans and get the opportunity to connect with them using data obtained through the pre-order sales.

He said: Real fans buy music and will not only look forward to new releases but will also be willing to purchase them prior to time. We think this easy-to-use feature will meet our users’ needs for convenience and being up-to-date. More importantly, the pre-order feedback could also help the artists and labels make or adjust their business plans accordingly and early enough.

Back in January 2017, when Boomplay announced a major milestone of reaching over 1 million installations on Google Play Store, Boomplay’s General Manager for Operations, Oye Akideinde mentioned that the service was ‘actively working’ on some features that will make artistes and music lovers more satisfied with the platform.

Boomplay has rolled out this feature with the release of Seyi Shay’s coming single ‘Weekend Vibes’, which is now available for pre-order here, and will be released to the public on the 12th of May, 2017.

Thomas Tuchel Wants To Continue As Borussia Dortmund Manager – Advisor

Featured Image

Thomas Tuchel’s advisor has revealed that the coach wants to remain at Borussia Dortmund as details of a fallout between the manager and CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke continue to emerge in the German press.

However, his adviser, Olaf Meinking, say that Tuchel wants to at least see out his contract, which has another year to run: “Our goal is that Thomas stays at BVB and everything calms down.”

The situation at Dortmund escalated last Friday when CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Funke Media that there was a “disagreement” in the aftermath ofthe attack on the Dortmund bus before the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Monaco.

Several newspapers reported a rift between Tuchel on one side, and the players and the club hierarchy on the other.

Bild reports that Turkey international Emre Mor was “humiliated” by assistant coach Rainer Schrey in a recent training session and forced to crawl on the pitch for several minutes. The paper added that Schrey will have to leave the club this summer.

But, speaking to Sport1, Tuchel agent Meinking insisted: “Thomas has and always been very honest and sincere with his statements. And I would like to overcome the so-called disagreement. It’s important for me that Thomas Tuchel will not take any more damage in this matter.”

Diego Costa Addresses Reports Linking Him With Move To Tianjin Quanjian

Featured Image

Diego Costa says it is not a foregone conclusion he will leave Chelsea for China at the end of the season.

Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian are confident of landing the Spain striker this summer, although they say no talks have yet taken place.

A 20th league goal of the season set Chelsea on their way to Monday night’s 3-0 defeat of Middlesbrough, a result which means they can wrap up the title with victory at West Brom on Friday.

And speaking to South American broadcasters DirecTV Sports, Costa said: “I am the owner of my future and it does not mean that I am going to China.”

The Chelsea head coach, Antonio Conte, has insisted the “will of the player” is important in the future of any of his squad members. And Costa has previously admitted agitating for a return to Atlético Madrid.

He has two years remaining on the contract signed when he joined from Atletico for £32m in July 2014.

Roma’s Defender Antonio Rudiger Availiable For £34 Million

Featured Image

Roma defender Antonio Rudiger is available this summer for £34m amid reported interest from Chelsea, Manchester City and BayernMunich, according to Bild in Germany.

Pep Guardiola reportedly sees the German centre-back as a long-term successor to injury prone Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence

Both the Mirror and ESPN reported back in March that Pep Guardiola had his eyes on Rüdiger, a tall and strong centre-back with good passing ability. And Sport Bild in Rüdiger’s homeland claimed that City remained interested, but that Roma’s domestic rivals, Inter, had been the first to make an approach with a €40 million (£33.9 million) proposal.

Sky Germany has today confirmed all of that information. Their own sources have informed them that Inter have an offer on the table for the 6’3″ tall defender, but that Manchester City are interested and recently made contact with the player. However, no offer has arrived from the Etihad as yet, suggesting that Rüdiger may be just one of several options under consideration.

Dick Advocaat Appointed New Coach Of Holland National Team

Featured Image

Dick Advocaat has been named Netherlands coach for the third time, with Ruud Gullit as his assistant.

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed the appointments at a press conference in Zeist on Tuesday morning.

The announcement sees former Rangers and Sunderland boss Advocaat, who turns 70 in September, become his country’s oldest national coach, usurping Guus Hiddink who was 68 when he left the hot-seat in June 2015.

The Dutch FA’s technical director, Hans van Breukelen, said: “There were two scenarios. We opt for the longer term or we do everything that is possible to get to the 2018 World Cup. We chose the second scenario. It had to be a very experienced professional, preferably an authority.”

Advocaat will leave his post as coach of Fenerbahce in Turkey to take the job. He has had two previous stints as Holland coach, 1992-94 and 2002-04, and three as assistant, most recently last year. Only Rinus Michels has had so many spells in charge.

Fred Grim will remain in interim charge until Advocaat and Gullit join together, which looks likely to be when Fenerbahce’s involvement in the Turkish Cup is over. “It is unfortunate that Dick Advocaat cannot join up with us until later, but it is as it is,” Van Breukelen said.

Governor Ambode Orders VIOs Out Of Lagos Roads ‘Until Further Notice’

Featured Image

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has ordered the temporary suspension of the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) from the roads in the state with immediate effect.

It was gathered that Ambode, while handing down the directive, as a result of public complaints, ordered the officers to stay away until further notice.

The Punch quoted sources in the Ambode-led administration as saying the removal of the officers from the state’s roads was to reposition the outfit.

“The story on a painter, whose car got burnt in VIO’s custody, caused a discreet investigation into the activities of the outfit and I can tell you that the report was not palatable.

“Apart from this, complaints about the overzealousness of some VIO men have reached a high level.”

“The governor, who said he would not tolerate any highhandedness in his administration, ordered them out of Lagos roads until further notice,” one of the sources said.

Speaking on the development, a VIO source, however, said the governor only told them to leave the roads and go on ‘compulsory retraining on the use of modern technology in order to be humane in dealing with the public,’ adding that the VIOs would be back on the road soon.

It is understood that the training had been arranged since the officers left the road last week.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said nobody had hindered the VIOs from performing their duties.

He said, “The truth is that the transport ministry is undergoing restructuring, including the VIOs. The commissioner for transportation had made some recommendations, which he will present at the State Executive Council meeting and things can move forward from there.

“But we all believe that the VIOs’ activities should be technologically driven and more. These will be seen soon.”

BOI: Nigeria Disburses N9.08 billion To Southeast Farmers

Featured Image

The Bank of Industry (BOI) has said that the N9.08 billion injected into agriculture in the Southeastern part of the country was in line with Federal Government’s food programme for the country.

The Guardian quoted the bank’s Managing Director, Kabiru Mohammed, as saying that the move was part of efforts to diversify the economy and attain food security.

It is understood that of the amount so far disbursed to farmers in the region, Abia got N1.4b, Anambra got N3.3b, while Ebonyi got N578m. Also, Enugu got N1.7b, while Imo got N2b.

Speaking with newsmen in Enugu, Mohammed disclosed that the bank had the mandate of providing agricultural credit and non-agricultural micro-credit with a view to curbing poverty.

He, however, said that the amount so far disbursed fell below the expected target for the region considering the abundant opportunities there.

“Our bank and its stakeholders are making concerted efforts to curb all known challenges to agro-entrepreneurship to widen the space for more participation,” he said.

Mohammed pointed out that most of the credit facilities were directed at women whom he said, had suffered from neglect, chronic underinvestment and regional protectionism.

“We know that a lot of women in the rural areas are involved in agriculture but presently not being taken care of. 37,000 Nigerians Migrated To Italy In 2016

Featured Image

No less than 37,000 Nigerians migrated to Italy in 2016, the President of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, has said.

She stated this on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, in an attempt to unify efforts by both Nigeria and Italy to check the ugly trend and terrorism.

Boldrini, who did not specify as to whether the immigrants entered Italy legally or not, remarked that Italy will stand by Nigeria to combat terrorism, even as it appreciates ongoing effort to tackle the menace since it remains a threat to the entire world.

While applauding President Muhammadu Buhari for the rescue of 82 girls who were kidnapped from Chibok, Borno State three years ago, she expressed willingness of Italy’s parliament to collaborate with its Nigerian counterpart to address the challenges faced by victims displaced by Boko Haram attacks, as well as the trafficking of people, especially young girls and women, to Italy.

Boldrini also said that she was concerned that “UN agencies, working to provide aid for IDPs, are suffering because of lack of aid. It is important that the international community continues to fund, to get resources for those in need so that they don’t cut aid for victims of terrorism in this country.”

Dogara who expressed appreciation over her visit, stressed the need for the education and economic empowerment of citizenry.

While calling for partnership between the two countries to stop the tide of illegal immigration and terrorism in Nigeria, he said one of the ways the feat can be achieved is through economic development, which is a sure way to empower people to get out of poverty and resist the lure to engage in crime or risk travelling to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea.

He further added that it is the quest for a better life that motivates Nigerians and other nationalities to embark on risky journeys across the Mediterranean Sea in hopes of getting a better life in Europe.

To check the menace, Dogara, urged Italy to invest in the economy of Nigeria, stating, “the truth is that for us to deal with terrorism, illegal migration, trafficking and cross border crimes, we have to address the issue of bringing prosperity to sister countries so that citizens are catered for and jobs are provided.’’

Kylian Mbappe Reportedly Not Interested In Joining Manchester United

Featured Image

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly uninterested in the prospect of joining Manchester United this summer due to the team’s style of play under Jose Mourinho.

Kylian Mbappe has developed a reputation as one of the brightest prospects in world football during a remarkable run of form this season which has seen him score 22 goals in all competition.

Mbappe has drawn interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal, while United have already reportedly seen a £72m bid turned downfor the wonderkid.

Monaco are thought to be holding out for a world-record £100m offer, but L’Equipe reports that Mbappe would turn down a move to Old Trafford even if United matched that valuation.

The teenager is reportedly concerned that Mourinho’s style of play will not suit his own talents and is eager to play for a more expansive manager.

Cesc Fabregas Admits It’s Been A Difficult Season For Him

Featured Image

Cesc Fabregas has admitted that the last year has been difficult for him, but insists that he has “matured a lot” and is willing to fight for his place at Chelsea.

The Spaniard has only started 11 league games for the Blues this season

Cesc Fabregas also revealed that “many people” have told him he is not Antonio Conte‘s type of player but, with an impressive haul of four goals and 10 assists despite his limited game time, feels he can stake a claim for a first-team place next season.

The 30-year-old, who started for Chelsea in Monday’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough, told Sky Sports News: “It’s been a difficult year for me.

“I’m used to playing a lot but I feel I have matured a lot. Many people told me I am not the type of player for Antonio Conte and I should leave but I like challenges.

“I hadn’t played every game but I think I have played in the last 20 games. When I have been on the pitch maybe my contribution is better than a full season.”

Sheffield United Re-sign Former Striker Ched Evans

Featured Image

Sheffield United have announced that they have re-signed Ched Evans on a three-year deal.

Ched Evans scored 48 goals for the Blades between 2009 and 2012 before he was convicted of rape, which led to the club releasing the Welshman.

However, after spending two-and-a-half years in prison, Evans was found not guilty after a retrial and he subsequently signed for Chesterfield for the 2016-17 season .

The 28-year-old told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to be back. I still feel I have plenty to prove in football both at club and international level and I believe I can achieve those goals at United, playing in front of the terrific fans whose support I have always appreciated.

“I am very grateful to Chesterfield, the board and football management for giving me an opportunity to return to the game. It is just disappointing that it has come in season which has seen the club suffer relegation. I would like to thank the Chesterfield fans who made me feel so welcome.”

Evans scored five goals in 25 appearances in League One this season.
