Galatasaray Open Talks With Valencia To Sign Alvaro Negredo

Galatasaray sporting director Cenk Ergun has revealed that the club have held talks with Alvaro Negredo over a summer switch from Valencia.

The 31-year-old is soon to return to the Mestalla after spending a season on loan with Premier League side Middlesbrough, where he has so far netted 10 times in 36 appearances.

Negredo is unlikely to stick around at Valencia for too much longer, however, as discussions have already begun with Turkish giants Galatasaray and a move could soon be finalised.

“Yes we held talks with Alvaro Negredo but revealing too much information harms us,” Ergun is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo. “These types of players are highly regarded. It is important to announce such moves when it’s time.”

Jan Vertonghen Discusses How Tottenham Can Improve Next Season

Featured Image

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has called on his side to improve their away form next season.

The North-London side were arguably one of the standout performers of the season, but still fell short of eventual winners Chelsea who claimed the title with two games to spare.

Though Mauricio Pochettino’s side were unbeaten at White Hart Lane all season, their away form was not as impressive, and they end the season having not beaten a top-six side on their travels.

“Why we fell short is obviously a difficult question to answer. I think we had a run in October, November, where we didn’t win in a series of games, and that obviously hurt us at the end of the season,” said the centre-back, according to Sky Sports News.

“We also didn’t win an away game against a top-six team all season, so you can always improve there, and I think we will. We will learn a lot from this year; obviously, we have this unbelievable home record, which we can count on, and we want to build an away record as well.

“I think this year we had a couple of injuries that weren’t very helpful for us, a couple injured for maybe four to eight weeks, Harry [Kane] and Toby Alderweireld in particular, but the guys who came in did very well. If this squad stays the same into next year I will be very happy.”

Youth Players Unlikely To Get Into West Ham First Team – David Gold

Featured Image

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has admitted that the club’s youth players are unlikely to break into the first team in the coming season.

West Ham are looking to improve considerably in the summer transfer market after a poor season under Slaven Bilic, and Gold expects their side to be one full of “seasoned internationals”.

Promising youth players such as Reece Oxford and Josh Cullen have been shipped out on loan this season and Gold was forced to respond to fan complaints after celebrating Cullen’s part in the League One playoff final with Bradford City.

He said on Twitter: “I think we all have to (accept) that it is extremely unlikely that a teenager will break into a (Premier League) team full of seasoned international(s).

“Playing teenagers doesn’t guarantee success. Hull came fifth (in number of youngsters played) and got relegated. Chelsea came last and won the league.

“Sam (Allardyce) played the teenagers at Nottingham Forest (in 2014) and we got beat 5-0. Teenagers gain experience by going out on loan to the first (or) second division and the Championship.”

West Ham’s academy has provided dozens of players who became fully-fledged internationals over the years, including England stars Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrickand Glen Johnson.
