Barcelona Re-sign Gerard Deulofeu From Everton For £10m

Featured Image

Barcelona have announced that winger Gerard Deulofeu will return to Camp Nou ahead of next season.

After failing to impress Ronald Koeman, Deulofeu was loaned out to AC Milan for the second half of the last campaign where he went on to score four goals in 17 Serie A appearances.

A statement read: “FC Barcelona have activated the buy-back clause for Gerard Deulofeu. In the following days, the terms will be agreed with both Everton and the player. Deulofeu’s contract will run until 30 June 2019.”

During his initial spell with Barca, Deulofeu made just six appearances in all competitions before spending loan periods at both Everton and Sevilla.

Everton were able to sign the wideman on a permanent deal for just £4.2m in 2015, but that small fee was partly based on Barca being able to re-sign him for £10m.

Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz Joins French Side Lyon

Featured Image

Lyon have completed their fourth signing of the summer with the acquisition of Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz, the Ligue 1 club have announced.

The club announced the news via Twitter.

The 23-year-old Dominican Republic international had been a fringe player for Real for some time, earning most of his minutes with the B team. He flashed his talent in the Copa del Rey win over Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa last season, scoring a hat-trick in the second leg of the tie, but didn’t see an increase in playing time afterward.

Along with Chelsea’s Traore and Mariano, Lyon have already completed deals for Fernando Marcal and Ferland Mendy, two full-backs.

Roma Re-sign Lorenzo Pellegrini From Sassuolo For €10 million

Featured Image

Roma have completed the signing of Italy U21 striker Lorenzo Pellegrini on a five-year deal from Sassuolo

Lorenzo Pellegrini is a Roma youth academy product. The 21-year-old joined Sassuolo two years ago

Roma paid Sassuolo €10 million to reobtain the 21-year-old midfielder who was, quite naturally, excited to return to the club of his youth:

It is an incredible feeling to come back. This was my objective from the moment I went to Sassuolo. It is the culmination of a great two-year journey with them.

I want to thank Roma, including Monchi and the rest of the directors. They have always been in close contact with me. They made me realise how much they wanted me back.

Pellegrini’s blend of playmaking, creativity and ball winning should see him win a slot in Eusebio Di Francesco’s rotation in no time.

The Unspoken Message In Buhari’s Voice Note

The Unspoken Message In Buhari’s Voice Note, By Azu Ishiekwene

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

When the presidency decided that it would not make any statement about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health status on his second medical trip to the UK where he has now spent half of the year, it opened the door for rumours to thrive and fester.

This article was written by Azu Ishiekwene. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Of course, there is a sense in which the government can argue that there is no point speaking on the matter because those who will not believe will not, even if they see him face to face and inspect his body and medical records with a magnifying glass.

Yet, sometimes I don’t think it’s the unbelief that worries Buhari’s close minders, as it is what the unbelievers, especially the political elite, might do or undo with any information they may have.

Dear President Buhari, Your Voice Note Is A Quit Notice

But in an attempt to manage the secrecy to the advantage of a few for as long as practically possible, the presidency has left itself in an extraordinarily embarrassing spot twice in three weeks.

The first time was when a group of busybodies had to refute a report on behalf of the presidency about whether or not the first lady Aisha saw her husband during her recent visit. The second is a voice note purportedly sent by Buhari at the end of Ramadan.

It’s probable that it is Buhari’s voice but the haste and quality of the delivery leave room for reasonable suspicion. What is certain is that those who wanted to make a public relations coup out of the note may have swindled Buhari and the public at large.

What has been undone has been undone and there’s no delicate way to put it without looking stupid. But at the risk of stupidity, I doubt very much that a Buhari with any presence of mind and even partial awareness of the flaring ethnic tensions in the country will, of his own free will, choose to address Nigerians in Hausa language at the time he did.

Why would he do that? Why, at a time when ethnic warlords are determined to set the country on fire, would Buhari choose to speak to the country in Hausa language after nearly 50 days of silence? Why would he do that except if a clique had told him the voice note would be broadcast to a narrower, homogeneous audience, only to supplant him after squeezing the note out of him? I think we’ve been swindled, though it seems pointless to say so now.

But I also think it’s dangerous to be silent. The president of Nigeria is too big to hide or be hidden, whatever the problem may be. At the current rate, a small clique will not only try to hide the president for as long as it pleases. It will also manipulate the presidency, leaving it only a shade better than it was during the last days of former President Umaru Yar’Adua. But we have seen that even that shade is not beyond manipulation.

That’s part of the unspoken message from that voice note. OK, Buhari handed over to Yemi Osinbajo to co-ordinate as “acting president.” But where was the acting president in this voice note business? Did he get a copy, listen to it and wave it on as the best thing that happened since Gaskiya Tafi Kwabo?

If Buhari needed to convey a message to Nigerians, the proper thing would have been for such a message to go through the office of the acting president, and not through a clique that distributed it through backdoor channels to the Hausa service of the BBC and a few other broadcasters.

When he spoke briefly to worshipers in a Kano mosque by phone during his earlier medical trip this year, it was understandable that he did so in Hausa. But to speak to all Nigerians in Hausa in the midst of a storm is beyond me to accept as his rational wish.

The clique will do worse if we keep silent. As the days of Buhari’s absence lengthen and concerns rise that the political elite could mount a challenge, the clique might pull off another stunt, despite having its fingers burnt by wangling a voice note.

It’s difficult to accept at this time that all the shenanigans is about saving the number 1 spot in the presidency for Buhari and nothing else. The clique has been playing its hands for far too long and its decision to keep the status of Buhari’s health in complete secrecy this time is proving too much for its own predations.

There had been all kinds of stories of power intrigues, especially about Chief of Staff Abba Kyari insisting that statements from the acting president’s office must be cleared with him. Not a big surprise if you keep in mind that Daily Trust reported the weekend before Buhari’s trip that Kyari met alone with the service chiefs in the Villa for God knows what.

The surprise, perhaps, is that one man – with possibly three or four others – can manipulate the system to the point where a note would be extracted from a sick president for dubious ends.

ALSO READ: Eid-El-Fitr: Prominent Nigerians Berate Buhari For Issuing Audio Message In Hausa

The frequent reminders that there’s one, undivided presidency are useless, especially because we often get the lecture from the ones who are mainly responsible for the schisms. If there is indeed one presidency, the apostles have to redeem it by investigating how Buhari’s voice note was procured, who authorised its distribution and why.

I don’t know the last time Osinbajo spoke with Buhari – assuming he has done so at all – in the last 50 days, but I think it should concern him that the reputation of the government, which he heads even in acting capacity, is unraveling rapidly. As long as silence and hypocritical requests for prayers remain the official policy to managing information about Buhari’s health status, we will have to contend with worse treachery than the voice note.

That voice note was just one scam in a long series of upcoming dramas.

APC Gives Update On Buhari’s Health, Debunks Fayose’s Claim That He’s On Life Support

Featured Image

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is fast recovering from his illness, contrary to allegations that he is on life support.

The statement was made by the National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, in Abuja while speaking with journalists at the end of a meeting between the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and state governors elected on the party’s platform.

His words: “We are glad to inform you that President Muhammadu Buhari is recovering in a very robust manner.

“We hope he takes it easy and when he comes back, I have no doubt at all that we will have a new and active period of activities.’’

The chairman of the ruling party further added that only the president’s doctors abroad could decide when he would be fit to return to the country.

It would be recalled, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State had recently alleged that President Buhari was on life-support in a London Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.

However, the national chairman refused to respond to the governor’s comment, saying he would do that at an appropriate time.

“If I respond, I will be dignifying him,” he said.

“At the appropriate time, people will answer him; at the appropriate level; at the appropriate time.

“He is in a different world altogether.’’

Also on Thursday, Oyegun had during a Channels TV programme maintained that the president is not on “life support” as claimed by Fayose.

He described Fayose’s comments as “most unfortunate.”

“That is the governor of Ekiti state when he talks you just discount it and move on,” he said, adding that “We are not his doctors but the reports we have are very good.

“It [Fayose’s comments] is a most unfortunate thing. It is not ideal. Nobody wishes that on himself or on a nation but he is recovering very strongly.”

Court Sentences Partygoer To Death By Hanging In Ogun State

Featured Image

A High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Friday sentenced a partygoer, Rasheed Kareem, to death by hanging for the murder of Ahmed Muyideen.

While delivering her judgment, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade said the convict, who was returning from a carnival, was guilty of murder, for smashing a bottle on Mr. Muyideen’s head and thereafter stabbing him with it, leading to his death.

Mrs. Olopade, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, said the prosecution had proved the unlawful act that led to the death of the deceased beyond reasonable doubt.

“With all the evidence tendered in court during trial, I found that the accused person had unlawfully caused the death of the deceased.

“The act was done intentionally, so the court has found him (Kareem) guilty of the offence. I hereby sentence the accused to death by hanging,’’ she said.

The Chief Judge said the offence committed contravened Section 316, and was punishable under Section 391 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun 2006.

“Section 316 provides that any person who causes the death of another directly or indirectly by any means whatsoever is deemed to have killed the person,’’ Mrs. Olopade said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict, who had been standing trial since 2015, had at his arraignment pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr. Kareem was arrested and charged for attacking and stabbing the deceased with bottle.

The prosecution counsel, Olubankole Mafe, had established during trial that the convict committed the offence at about 8.00p.m. on Dec. 19, 2015 under ltoku Bridge in Abeokuta.

According to prosecution witnesses, Mr. Muyideen had boarded a taxi while returning from a church programme.

The taxi, on getting to Itoku, was said to have developed a fault.

One of the witnesses said Mr. Muyideen and other passengers came down to push the taxi off the road.

“While trying to push the taxi to a safe place for repairs, the accused person who was coming from a community carnival came down from his motorcycle with an empty bottle and smashed it on Kareem’s head before stabbing him in the stomach.

“Kareem was rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Idi Aba, in Abeokuta, where he received treatment, but later died after two days,” the witness said.

In his prayer after the conviction of his client, the defence counsel, Mr Oludotun Sotonade, urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

‘680 Civilian JTF Members Died Trying To Fight Boko Haram Insurgents In Borno’

Featured Image

No less then 680 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) have died trying to repel Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks in Borno from 2012 to date, the group’s legal officer, Junril Gunda, said on Friday.

Gunda, who made this known today in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, said that in spite of the high casualty figure, the JTF remained undaunted in its resolve to protect communities in the state from the terrorists.

“The group which is non profitable started in 2012 when our youths picked up sticks and said no more Boko Haram and they successfully push the terrorist group out of Maiduguri.

“We don’t have any other home than Borno, we are therefore working tirelessly to provide civic protections against any form of threat represented by Boko Haram.

“Sadly a lot of our youths have paid the supreme price, there is hardly any day you will hear of an attack without one of our civilian JTF killed and that does not mean we will stop defending our land of terrorism.

“As you can see I am a lawyer by profession, this is my Chamber and I am happy to also be one of the Civilian JTF. I was also trained for eight months on light arms use by the military.

“If I see a Boko Haram now, I can take him down with my gun.

“It was necessary to train our civilian JTF on the use of arms because they always move along with the military in the front line during operations.

“Our civilian JTF had taken part in almost all the operations going on in Sambisa forest.

“It was also necessary because they are always the first to sight Boko Haram suspects during checks in the state capital.

“Boko Haram members are not afraid of the military, they are afraid of the civilian JTF; they believe if a civilian JTF kills any of them, they will go to hell. Many of them have said this during their testimonies,” said Mr. Gunda.

He added that no fewer than 23,000 youth vigilantes have been registered under the body to provide civic protection in every nooks and crannies of the state.

Mr. Gunda said there were numerous challenges confronting the group because the members were not being paid for the job.

“Like I said earlier, it was a voluntary thing, so no one was paid any penny for the job and because of some difficulties and poor living conditions of the youths, some engage in begging to fend for themselves.

“It was as the result of this that Borno State Government decided to empower 1,400 of them as vanguards with the acronym BOYES and were being paid N15, 000 monthly.

“Government and other nongovernmental organizations must also give support to the other 20,000 youths who were not empowered.

“They should also give priority attention to widows of our deceased youths because we are left to carter for their welfare.

“Government should sponsor their children and give them a better life in recognition of the selfless sacrifices made by their parents,” said Mr. Gunda.

Jay-Z Opens Up On Beyoncé Infidelity Rumours On New Album 4:44, Takes Aim At Kanye West

Featured Image

US rapper Jay-Z may have, in his new 10-track album, 4:44, addressed the rumours of infidelity that circulated his marriage to Beyoncé, last year – when she released her visual album, Lemonade.

Apparently, it means, if Lemonade was the accusation album, 4:44 is the apology.

In Lemonade, Beyoncé had aired details of her husband’s rumoured infidelity (with a woman referenced only as “Becky with the good hair”).

Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy

Following the footage that emerged of Beyoncé’s musician sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay-Z in a lift – interpreted by many to be over issues of infidelity – Beyoncé sang: “Of course sometimes shit goes down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”

However, in his new 10-track album, 4:44, which he dropped on Tidal on Thursday night, Hov appears to shed new light on the allegations.

On “Kill JAY-Z” he appears to reference the infamous altercation in a lift with Beyonce’s sister Solange after the 2014 Met Gala.

“You egged Solange on, knowing all along all you had to say you was wrong / You almost went Eric Benet, let the baddest girl in the world get away … I don’t even know what you woulda done, in the future, other niggas playing football with your son,” he said, addressing himself as (Eric Benet).

The Eric Benet reference pertains to the R&B singer and actor who was unfaithful to Halle Berry.

In the title song – which Jay-Z previously said is the “crux of the album” and “one of the best songs I’ve ever written”, in an interview with iHeartRadio – lyrics include:

“I apologise often womanise / Took for my child to be born / See through a woman’s eyes / Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles / Took me too long for this song / I don’t deserve you.”

The track has been taken by fans and critics alike to refer to the rapper’s guilt about being unfaithful to Beyoncé, referencing the couple’s children – five-year-old Blue Ivy, and the recent as-yet-unconfirmed arrival of twins.

“And if my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do / If they ain’t look at me the same, I would probably die with all the shame,” he goes on to say in “4:44”.

In another deeply personal moment on his album, Jay-Z references his regrets that the couple – who married in 2008 – have suffered several miscarriages.

“I still mourn this death / I apologise for all the stillborns / ‘Cause I wasn’t present your body wouldn’t accept it.”

One of the most prominent lyrics is on JAY-Z’s “Family Feud” where he addresses the notorious ‘Becky’, who was checked on Beyonce’s track “Sorry”.

“Sorry” lyric: “He only want me when I’m not there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

“Family Feud”: “Yeah, I’ll fuck up a good thing if you let me / Let me alone Becky!”

The new album, which features Frank Ocean and Damian Marley, also sees him address Kanye West’s turbulent temperament at the end of 2016.

Recall, Kanye had, on stage in Sacramento, said:

“Beyoncé, I was hurt cause I heard that you said you wouldn’t perform unless you won Video of the Year over me, and over “Hotline Bling” and “Jay Z, call me bra. You still ain’t call me. Jay Z, call me. Ayy brah, Jay Z I know you got killas, please don’t send ‘em at my head, just call me. Talk to me like a man.”

Jay-Z’s response comes early on in the first track on the album, he says:

“You walking around like you invincible/You dropped out of school, you lost your principles/I know people backstabbed you, I felt bad too/But this ‘fuck everybody’ attitude ain’t natural/But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe/But you got hurt because you think KumbaYe/You gave him 20 million without thinkin’/He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin’?/’Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’/But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”

It is obvious Hov was genuinely insulted/hurt by Kanye’s words, which he hasn’t publicly apologised for.

Jay-Z was seemingly talking about the rapper who once called him a big brother but more recently pleaded in a concert for him (Hov) not to put a hit out on him.

Jay-Z Opens Up On Beyoncé Infidelity Rumours On New Album 4:44, Takes Aim At Kanye West

Huddersfield Sign Mooy Permanently

Featured Image

Newly-promoted Huddersfield have completed the permanent signing of Aaron Mooy from Manchester City for £8 million, which could rise to £10 million.

Mooy left Melbourne City for England in 2016, but went on loan to Huddersfield.

The new premier league club have now signed him permanently untilthe 2020 season, after he played a hand in their promotion.

Commenting on the deal, manager Wagner said: “Everybody who has watched our team in our promotion season knows how huge it is to have Aaron back at the club as we enter the Premier League for the first time. I’m sure our fans will be very happy to see him back!

“As I said many times last season, Aaron was right at the heart of our team. When he played well, we usually played well – and won!

“His performances for us understandably brought a lot of interest in him this summer, so it is a big statement that Aaron wants to return to us. I think he understands that playing so regularly for us at a good level improved his game too and now he has the chance to be a regular in the Premier League; something that is very exciting for every player.

“He is still a great age and has space to improve, which is exciting for us too!

“His return, along with the early signing of Laurent Depoitre, demonstrates the commitment our chairman, and the club, have at becoming a success in this division.”

Huddersfield kick off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace in August.
