Ferguson: Carrick Was Designed To Be Great At United

Featured Image

Sir Alex Ferguson says Michael Carrick’s character made him a player that was destined to be successful at United.

Carrick has had a successful career at Manchester United since he joined from Tottenham in 2006.

The 35-year-old has won five Premier Leagues, three EFL Cups, the FA Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League, which United lifted only last month.

“One of the things that stuck out to me when we were profiling him and preparing to make a bid was that as a young boy, 16 years of age, he left home to play for West Ham,” Ferguson said, as quoted by United’s official website .

“That tells you that the boy had the confidence that he was going to make it. A 16-year-old kid from Newcastle going to east London, that’s a trek, and it impressed me.

“From the minute we bought Michael in 2006, his character has always been outstanding. He’s a football man and that character, coupled with his ability, made him a certainty to be a big success at United.”

Modric Warns Madrid Is Just Starting

Featured Image

Luka Modric warns other clubs, that Madrid are not done and intends to dominate, after winning the UCL and La Liga.

The Los Blancos have dominated the European showpiece in the past four seasons, winning it three times in the last four years.

Modric says there is a lot left for Zidane’s men to win, after breaking Barcelona’s hold on the Liga and becoming the first team to win the UCL back-to-back.

The Croatian midfielder told reporters after helping to secure a 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff on Saturday: “We need to keep doing what we are doing, enjoy what we are doing and we will see.

“We are in good ages, we have young players that are coming that have a lot of quality, and this is only positive thing for the team.

“It’s something special we are doing at the moment and we need to keep going because this moment will not last forever.

“I think we feel we are an amazing team, and we need to just keep doing what we are doing, because I think we can win many more titles in the future.”

He added after seeing Ronaldo, Casemiro and Marco Asensio find the target: “I think definitely we had instruction from mister [Zidane], and what he said that we need to be more aggressive, to not allow Juve to keep the ball easily like they did in first half after our goal.

“We dropped back too much and it was not good for us and second half he changed this, and it was crucial for our performance the second half.

“If he can see something that we can do on the pitch, he tells us, and we are trying to do in our best way.”

Valverde Wants To Win Everything In His Debut Barcelona Season

Featured Image

Ernesto Valverde is setting really high targets for his first year at Barcelona, as he intends to win everything.

The former Athletic Bilbao manager used to play for Barcelona and knows the type of pressure he will face.

Valverde intends to embrace the pressure and channel it to winning silverware with Barcelona.

“I want to win every game, from first to last, I want to win everything, that’s my intention,” he told Barca TV.

“If there’s a good atmosphere and a group that push you, everything becomes much easier.

“It’s a challenge, a responsibility and a dream because Camp Nou will be full of people who expect a lot from us, so we must be able to return the favour.

“I want to convey everything I feel to the fans, and that can vibrate with the team.

“Even though I already knew about it, I’m realising the sheer size of this club. When a club like Barca call you, it’s always a great moment.

“I decided to end my four-year spell in Bilbao. Sometimes, for a club like Barca to call you, not only do they need to like your style, but it must also coincide with timing, your situation.”

Valverde added: “The game is a reflection of the coach’s idea. I want a team spirit that infects the people at the club, a style of play that is intense, a team that carry the weight of their game and an ambition in accordance with what’s asked of us.

“There are many things that I already see in this team. The formation sets the base for your idea, and you have to make sure the players are comfortable so that you can achieve what you want to achieve.”

I Would Consider Real Madrid Offer- Eden Hazard

Featured Image

Chelsea star Eden Hazard would be interested in a move to Real Madrid if the opportunity arose, according to the Daily Mail.

When asked of his thoughts of a potential bid by Real Madrid, he said: “Of course, I would listen.

“Honestly, I do not know what offers will arrive. I only know that I have three years under contract at Chelsea.

“Last year, we had a great season together with Antonio. We want to continue like that, in the Champions League too. I feel good at Chelsea, but you never know what will happen.

“I have not met with the management (for contract talks). First, I have to play two matches in Belgium. They are the most important thing now. Then follows a month of holiday. And frankly, I would want to think about football as little as possible.”

Antonio Conte reiterated his desire to keep Hazard after he was instrumental in helping the Italian win the title in his first season in the Premier League but admitted that his future would depend on “the will of the player”.

“I think Eden is very happy to stay in Chelsea, to stay with us and work with us,” he said. “I can tell this. But the future? I haven’t a crystal ball, no. I think everything is possible. Everything is possible in football and not only for Eden but for every single player. Everything is possible. You must understand that there are different wills to compare and then to take the decision.”

Vincent Janssen Says His Tottenham Future Is Undecided

Featured Image

Vincent Janssen says his future at Tottenham will be decided after his post-season holiday, but he wants more playing time.

“I initially found it difficult with my role as a substitute, sometimes sitting in the stands at Spurs, but I learned to deal with it,” he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“As a young player I had to compete with Harry Kane – the top scorer of the Premier League – arguably the toughest league in the world, and a striker who is performing remains in the team.

“That [my future] is a matter for after the holidays. I want the prospect of more playing time, but otherwise I’m now better keeping my mouth shut. I cannot say anything about that [a return to the Eredivisie] either. I keep all options open.”

Olivier Giroud : My Future Is With Arsenal

Featured Image

Olivier Giroud has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Arsenal and targeted winning the Premier League title with the Gunners.

“I am not insensitive to the approaches of the French clubs and especially that of Marseille,” he told French TV show Telefoot. “But my future is in the Premier League. I still have titles to win. After the FA Cup, we will go for the league title. That’s my goal.”

Giroud was often overlooked this past campaign as Arsene Wenger preferred to play Alexis Sanchez in a central role before Danny Welbeck then returned to fitness to play up front, though Sanchez continues to be linked with a move away this summer.

Arsene Wenger ended speculation about his own future earlier this week by signing a new two-year contract to remain in charge at the Emirates Stadium.

Nigerian Govt Vows To ‘Wield The Big Stick’ On Purveyors Of Fake News

Featured Image

The Federal Government of Nigeria has vowed that it will not relent until it has exposed those behind the fake news phenomenon in the country and bring them to justice.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that those behind the fake news had the intention of destabilising the polity and causing disunity among the country’s various ethnic and religious groups.

According to the statement, which was signed by Mr Segun Adeyemi, the Special Adviser to the Minister, Mr Mohammed urged Nigerians to be extra vigilant in view of the worsening cases of fake news being spread by the unscrupulous persons.

The minister also stressed that over the weekend alone, several major cases of fake news were recorded, each of them capable of causing panic, triggering chaos or setting one group against the other.

He said that a gory video of a blast that occurred many years ago was being circulated along with the false news of a bomb blast in Abuja, while news of a non-existent bomb blast in Lagos was also widely circulated.

He said the Police had however debunked the fake news.

Mohammed said the latest strategy being employed by the purveyors of fake news was to attribute to top government officials, improbable statements capable of destabilising the polity, causing tension and threatening the country’s unity.

”This is why we are appealing to Nigerians not to ever engage in a knee-jerk reaction to any news, and to subject every information to a very serious scrutiny by checking with security agencies and government spokespersons,” he said.

The Minister described the fake news phenomenon as ‘the scourge of our times’ noting that it would “probably get worse in the months ahead”

He, therefore, called on all Nigerians to be very vigilant so that fake news purveyors do not succeed in their quest to sow the seeds of chaos and confusion.

He also appealed to the traditional media, which has a reputation to protect, to join the campaign against the purveyors of fake news.

Presidency Breaks Silence On Why 2017 Budget Has Not Been Assented To

Featured Image

The presidency on Saturday broke the silence on why the record 7.44 trillion naira ($24.45 billion) budget for 2017 has not been assented to.

Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo was expected to sign the document on Thursday with reports saying he had invited both the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to the ceremony.

Full Breakdown Of Nigeria’s ‘2017 Budget Of Recovery And Growth’

However, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang said the Presidency is working within the constitutional time-frame required to process details of the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly.

It is understood, based on reports on ground, that the Presidency may reject the fiscal document over the increase made in the figures by the National Assembly.

The lawmakers had increased their budget from N115bn proposed by President Buhari to N125bn. They also raised the entire budget size from N7.298 trillion to N7.441 trillion, making an increase of N143 billion.

The lawmakers further jerked up the proposed oil benchmark from $42.5 per barrel to $44.5 per barrel.

But yesterday, Enang said, “there is no such plan by the Presidency to reject the 2017 budget passed by the National Assembly as alleged in some reports. The Presidency can only assent to the budget or withhold assent as the case maybe.

“However, should there be areas needing input, the Presidency would engage the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives. As such, any report suggesting a rejection of the 2017 budget by the Presidency is incorrect”.

He said right now, the Presidency is subjecting every detail of the budget using the available systems at its disposal to ensure the figures appropriated to MDAs are consistent with the realities on ground, while also engaging in consultations.

“When the budget was presented to both chambers of the National Assembly for consideration last year by President Muhammadu Buhari, both chambers subjected the document to legislative processes using internal systems at their disposal.

“That is exactly what the Presidency is doing at the moment to ensure that what is eventually assented to sufficiently addresses the nation’s present realities, as not doing so could expose government to a backlash from Nigerians,” he said.

In December 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari had tabled a N7.298trillion budget to the Assembly, but the lawmakers jacked the final figure to NN7.44 trillion.

The budget aims to pull Nigeria out of a recession that was caused by low global oil prices that have slashed government revenues, weakened the Naira and caused chronic dollar shortages.

Nigeria Customs Starts Online Auction Of Seized Goods To Qualified Persons On July 1

Featured Image

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Friday, June 2, announced that it would begin auction of seized and condemned goods to qualified persons on July 1, 2017.

According to a statement issued on its website, the Customs said it is reopening the suspended auction scheme after about 18 months following successful test running of the new electronic auction portal.

The statement read: “After repeated tests of the e-auction platform Nigeria Customs is now set to deploy the e-auction portal on the 1st of july 2017.

“The portal is now fully networked to designated banks to ensure money accruing from the auction gets to the Central bank of Nigeria Treasury Single Account for transparency and accountability.

“After receiving the report, the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) directed the auction committee to ensure that only proper pictures of the goods as well as detailed information about each are uploaded to avoid and misgiving.

“He further stressed the need for more weeks to enable interested members of the public to obtain their Tax identification numbers (TIN) from the federal inland revenue before the commencement date.

“The platform which is highly interactive will only give access to holders of TIN. Such tax payers will log in, read the guidelines, pay the non refundable one thousand auction fee and proceed to bid for the items on auction”.

“All interested persons are therefore advised to get ready by obtaining their Tax identification numbers issued by Federal Inland Revenue.”

Infinite Jest: The Politics Of Looting The Book Dino Melaye Never Published

Featured Image

Infinite Jest: The Politics Of Looting The Book Dino Melaye Never Published By Bayo Oluwasanmi

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

The Kogi Senator Melaye needs no introduction. He’s perhaps the most well read out of the 109 senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His chains of degrees swirl like a snake across continents. He has degrees from Nigeria, United Kingdom, Romania, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Canada, America, Cuba, and Antarctica.

This article was written by Bayo Oluwasanmi. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The corrupt career of Melaye spans many years. It’s a career with a footnote in corruption for our times. Unlike former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Melaye wasn’t trying to sell a senate seat. Unlike former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, Melaye didn’t try to portray himself as a lovable rogue. Instead, Melaye is of a debauch vision. He’s technically a rabbit in the disturbed hallucination in a costume sense of the word.

Popularly known by his latest CD Ajekun iya ni yio je Melaye is a crazy, homicidal, faceless, shameless mania. He’s known for his argle-bargle, jiggery-pokery. His book “Antidotes For Corruption” wasn’t the book that should have been written by him. Punnily titled “Antidotes For Corruption ” is a lethal comedic nonsense. How can a raunchy, self-centered animated looter writes a book on prescription for corruption? It’s like expecting Beelzebub to cast out Beelzebub!

Melaye, the hyperactive neurotic bunny author of “Antidotes For Corruption” should have written a book with the title “Infinite Jest: The Politics Of Looting.” That would have made sense and of course intelligent reading without any tinge of irony.

“Infinite Jest: The Politics Of Looting” would have been his memoir/self-help hybrid that traces Melaye’s painful, impoverished, and unsteady climb out of suicidal despair. It would have been a compelling reading of how a Nigerian senator became instant millionaire made possible by rabid looting of our treasury.

Melaye would have written the book in a confiding, conversational prose that references figures from Soyinka’s “Madmen And Specialists” to Shakespeare’s Cordelia, where Melaye addresses the guilt and shame that comes with binge looting and incurable kleptomania.

Melaye would have made peace with himself and with Nigerians by describing the battles raging inside his red-raw naked mind in a bruisingly lucid detail how he and other reprobate senators plundered our treasury. He would have intimated us with their looting spree in form of unmerited bogus allowances and outrageous salaries. After all, they don’t have to publish their salaries of Senate president, the speaker of the House, the majority leader, other principal officers and the legislators. He would have informed Nigerians that 25% of national expenditure goes to the National Assembly.

The book would have shed light on the fact that each senator rakes in N48 million per quarter or $1.2 million per year. Melaye would have taken pains to come up with insane justification why Nigerian federal legislators are the highest paid in the world and why the country is among the poorest in the world in terms of per capital income, security, and social services and living standards. Melaye would have tried to convince us that go into politics with his other treasury looters was not dictated by greed, fraud, and personal aggrandizement.

For example, Melaye wold have been audacious enough to tell us that out of the 2009 annual budget of N3.1 trillion, N1.3 trillion or 42% ended up as remuneration for legislators, and nothing literally is left for social and economic development, construction of roads, water, education, healthcare, electricity. That in four years, he and other senators will pocket N720 million. Each member of the House of Reps will get N540 million. That Bukola Abiku Mesujamba Saraki as senate president gets N250 million per quarter and his deputy Ekweremadu gets N150 million.

That each of the principal officers gets N78 million. He should have emphasized that looting conduits also include constituency projects, inflated contracts, bribery over appropriations, and other manufactured spending and he and other legislators pocket 90% of the country’s GDP.

The history of Nigeria is a history of corruption. Corruption brings poverty, crime, violence, inequality, and class war. In Nigeria, when the poor ask for bread, they’re given a stone. The thirsty are permitted to drink and the hungry are not allowed to eat. The sick cannot seek treatment in hospital and no access to drugs. The jobless remains jobless. Workers are not paid and retirees are denied pensions.

Children of the poor are trapped in cycles of poverty while their parents watch helplessly with jaw twitching in premonition. Nigeria is blessed with natural resources worth trillions of dollars but the population is blighted with extreme poverty and unrest. Spectacular oil boom for years generated riches for the political elite but offered little to poverty ravaged Nigerians. Unlike a true democracy, the looters are not accountable to our people through a social contract based on taxation and representation.

Melaye’s book on corruption is a reminder of how often real-life political corruption can mirror the imaginations of Nollywood screenwriters. For Melaye of all people to publish a book on a subject of which is a poster boy, indicates that his foresight is much more myopic. His book should infuriate Nigerians who actually believe in democratic governance. Melaye is a man with faulty morals who is intoxicated with wealth acquired from corruption. He’s led by greed to crave for more tethering on a destructive cycle.

The launching of a book on corruption by Melaye with all the titans of corruption – Bukola Abiku Mesujamba Saraki, Patience Jonathan, Ike Ekweremadu, and others as chief launchers is an affront on our values as a people. It’s a distortion of our values and makes mincemeat of morality, truth, and virtue. It’s no wonder that with the Melayes, Mesujambas, Ekweremadus, etc., there is barely any sphere of our social, political, economic, and religious activity that is free from graft, fraud, and corruption of some kind.

Melaye remains the most hated colorful and boastful icons of corruption in Nigeria. By reflecting in his book his truest and sometimes ugly self back to the Nigerian people, it’s sad that sullen-looking, sleepy-eyed, foolish, cunning and dim, complicated illiterates and primitive people like him populate the Senate.

This Is A Dream Come True For Me- Gareth Bale

Featured Image

Gareth Bale has said that he has achieved “a dream come true” after Real Madrid defeated Juventus 4-1 to claim an unprecedented consecutive Champions League title.

A double from Cristiano Ronaldo and strikes from Casemiro and Marco Asensio handed Zinedine Zidane‘s side victory over the Serie A champions in what was their 12th title in the competition and its predecessor the European Cup.

Bale had been sidelined for Los Blancos since late April with a calf injury but made the matchday squad and came on for the final 18 minutes of the encounter in his hometown.

“What an incredible scene here, the stadium’s incredible, the city have done such an immaculate job in hosting a great event and we thank everyone for that,” Gareth Bale told BT Sport afterwards.

“But on a personal note, to win at home is a dream come true. It’s been a hard season, I worked hard – at one point I thought I wasn’t gonna make it to the final but I’ve worked tirelessly at home and this is the reward you get for all the hard work you put in.

“We’ve made more history so we’re just very happy to win the 12th and we’ll enjoy this moment now. We knew it was going to be a tight game – it was all about taking your chances and we did that.”

We Are The Deserving Winners -Sergio Ramos

Featured Image

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has branded his side “deserving winners” after they defeated Juventus 4-1 to retain the Champions League crown.

Real Madrid became the first club to achieve that feat since the competition’s rebrand from the European Cup in 1992 and the first club to reach 12 European titles.

“We had a date with history, we really wanted to win and we managed to achieve what no-one has ever done before – win two Champions League finals in a row,” Ramos told reporters after the game.

“We made very few mistakes, and we are the deserving winners.”

The victory – Real’s third in the last four seasons – also marked the first time in 59 years that the club won both the domestic title and in Europe.

Toni Kroos Hails Real Madrid’s “Unbelievable” Achievement

Featured Image

Toni Kroos has hailed his side for delivering an “unbelievable” achievement in the Champions League tonight.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro and Marco Asensio helped Los Blancos to defeat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff, in the process making them the first side to retain the Champions League trophy.

It was also an unprecedented 12th European title for Zinedine Zidane‘s side and marked the first time that Madrid have won both La Liga and in Europe since 1958.

“Unbelievable, I didn’t expect it was possible to defend this title, because it’s so difficult to win it once, but to do it twice in a row is fantastic,” Kroos told BT Sport afterwards.

“I think to win it three times in four years, it means a lot. It means it’s not only a good team on the pitch but off the pitch as well and I’m happy to be part of that team.”

Revealed: Arsenal Could Have Signed Kylian Mbappe For Just £230,000 Last Year

Featured Image

The Mail on Sunday claims that Arsenal could have signed  Kylian Mbappe for just £230,000 after talks last year.

Arsenal have set aside at least €100m (£87.5m) for his recruitment and, ironically, were in talks with the striker and his family this time last year when he was out of contact and could have signed for about £230,000 under FIFA’s compensation rules.

Arsenal will tell Mbappe that he would play as centre-forward and would be in the first team — which are options Real Madrid cannot guarantee. At the Bernabeu there is a danger he would be forced into wide positions and rarely feature, given that he could be competing with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

The decisiveness with which Arsenal have approached Monaco this early with an informal bid of €100m, as revealed by the French paper L’Equipe last week, is an indication that chief executive Ivan Gazidis is determined the club don’t leave transfer business until the last minute, as has been the case often in the past and a sign of the changes agreed after Wenger signed a new two-year deal.

West Ham’s Pedro Obiang Wanted by Everton, AC Milan And Sevilla

Everton keen on West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to the Mirror, but would have to pay at least £15m for his services.

AC Milan and Sevilla are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old, although the Hammers would like to keep the Spaniard beyond his current deal.

But Koeman is in pole position to keep Obiang in the Premier League after two seasons in England, with the ex-Sampdoria star targeted to compete for a place with Gareth Barry alongside Gueye.

Obiang has two years left on his contract at the Olympic Stadium and West Ham are looking to extend his deal beyond 2019

But they will also stand to make a huge profit on the £4.3million they paid Sampdoria two years ago should they cash in.

His form this season made him runner-up in the Hammer Of The Year award which was won by Michail Antonio.
