AC Milan Want Lazio Duo Of Lucas Biglia And Keita Balde Diao

Featured Image

AC Milan are hoping to continue their summer rebuild with the twin signings of Lucas Biglia and Keita Balde Diao from Lazio.

However, the double deal could be complicated by the fact the latter is intent on a move to Juventus. As an alternative to Keita, Milan are purportedly keeping tabs on Villarreal wide man Nicola Sansone.

Both Lucas Biglia and Keita Balde Diao will be out of contract in June 2018 and have refused to sign renewals at the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan have struck a double deal with Lazio for both players at an overall cost of €50m plus bonuses.

Milan and Juventus aren’t the only sides interested in Keita, as Chelsea, Liverpool, Monaco and Napoli are also contenders.

Corentin Tolisso Set To Choose Bayern Munich Over Chelsea

Featured Image

Bayern Munich believe they have found their successor to the retiring Xabi Alonso in Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso. The reigning German champions are already in negotiations with the French club regarding a move for the player, who is keen to continue his development abroad.

According to L’Equipe, the France international has held talks over a £35million move to the Allianz Arena that could end up being completed swiftly.

The 22-year-old weighed in with 14 goals and seven assists last season to establish himself as one of the top young midfield talents in Europe.

Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham all made inroads in terms of trying to sign the player this summer, and the Bavarian outfit began their pursuit late, but are now very much in the driving seat.

Carlo Ancelotti has been personally involved in convincing the player, via the phone.

CONFIRMED: Victor Lindelof To Join Manchester United

Featured Image

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica subject to a medical and personal terms.

A statement on Manchester United’s club website reads: “Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms.

“A further announcement will be made once the transfer is complete. “‘

Last November, Lindelof drew high praise from United’s recently departed striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who said his countryman is “good enough for the big clubs out there.”

But this is what he said about Lindelof last November:

“I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now, he is growing.

“Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants. Whatever he chooses will be good for him. I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good.”

Lindelof himself had suggested this week that his future could become clearer after Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against France in Stockholm on Friday, a 2-1 win in which he played all 90 minutes.

NNPC, 29 Ex-Workers At War Over N4billion Severance Package

Featured Image

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation ( NNPC) and 29 of its former workers are at loggerhead over N4 billion severance package.

It is understood that the ex-workers who were relieved of their jobs after working for the corporation as casual staff are seeking for the interventions of human right activists and other well meaning Nigerians to help them collect their N4 billion.

However, their claims did not sit too well with the management of the Corporation as it advised them to go to court.

Apparently frustrated by this, the ex-workers flayed at the management of the NNPC for telling them to go to court, knowing fully well that they don’t have the financial muscle to hire a lawyer.

Speaking with The Nation at the weekend in Abuja, the spokesman and also leader of the the disengaged causal workers of NNPC, Mr. Eze Ene and his assistant Okolo Barnabas, said they lack the means to engage lawyers to sue NNPC.

Speaking for the NNPC on the matter, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu said that there is nothing like that nomenclature ‘casual staff’ in NNPC.

He described them as daily paid workers that NNPC must have engaged their services that should ordinarily leave when there was no need for their service.

The NNPC spokesman however advised that  “if you are making claims and assuming that there was something like that in NNPC and you believe that NNPC engaged your services and you were not paid, you go to court. It is as simple as that.”

The disengaged staff however stated that “we don’t have the means to engage lawyers and that is why we are calling on human right lawyers to come and help us and if there is anywhere we are found guilty the law should take its course. We don’t have money to take them to court. They have money. They are even saying they will be happy if we will go to court so that they will frustrate it.”

Ene further lamented: “They should pay us off for over 15 years because now we don’t know where to start life. In the existence of NNPC no casual staff has been set off without conversion.”

EFCC Seizes N2bn Hotel Allegedly Belonging To Patience Jonathan

Featured Image

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized a hotel allegedly belonging to Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

Although the anti-graft agency is yet to evaluate the worth of the hotel, some estate agents within the community disclosed that the property should be worth about N2bn.

The five-storey hotel is located near Setraco Construction Company, beside Mabushi Kado Expressway.

The property, which has not been officially opened, has between 50 to 100 rooms, a gymnasium, a fountain and other amenities.

The Punch reports that when it visited the property on Friday, it observed the red inscription, ‘EFCC Under Investigation’ all over the hotel.

The EFCC seized Mrs. Jonathan’s properties in Karsana, Wasa and Idogwari areas of Abuja and is also on the verge of seizing her properties in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.

The anti-corruption agency also seized three other properties in Abuja allegedly belonging to Patience.

The former First Lady of Nigeria came under EFCC investigation in May 2016 when the commission arrested a former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

Patience laid claim to about $15m found in bank accounts allegedly belonging to Dudafa’s domestic servants.

She subsequently sued Skye Bank Plc and the EFCC. The commission then went ahead to freeze her personal account with a balance of $5m.

Igbo Quit Notice: Niger Delta Militants Demand Return Of Oil Blocs Owned By Northerners

Featured Image

A coalition of Niger Delta militants has demanded the return of all oil blocs owned and controlled by Northerners, to the people of the oil-producing region.

The request comes as retaliation to the order issued by Northern youth organizations to the Igbo in the North, to leave the region by October 1.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the Niger Delta Watchdogs, Niger Delta Volunteers, Niger Delta Peoples Fighters, Niger Delta Warriors, Bakassi Freedom Fighters, Niger Delta Movement for Justice, Niger Delta Fighters Network and Niger Delta Freedom Mandate, said they also intend to declare an independent Niger Delta on October 1, with a view to freeing their people from what they called northern enslavement.

The statement was signed by ‘General’ John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs and Convener: Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators), ‘General’ Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers), ‘General’ Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors), and ‘Major-Gen.’ Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters).

Others are ‘Major-Gen.’ Asukwo Henshaw (Bakassi Freedom Fighters), ‘Major-Gen.’ Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice), ‘Major-Gen.’ Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters Network), and ‘Major-Gen.’ Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate).

The coalition of Niger Delta militants further warned all the companies operating such oil blocs to quit within three months.

The statement read: “A coalition of the Niger Delta militants met today in Port Harcourt to review the recent call by the Arewa Youths groups that the Ndigbo should vacate all the Northern states within three months.

“We see the declaration by Arewa Youths as a declaration which the northern elders, leaders, political elite, security heads from the North and governors were fully aware of.

“We demand 100 per cent control of our resources. We demand that the Federal Government should hand over all oil blocs owned by northerners to Niger Delta indigenes. All the companies operating in such oil blocs/wells should vacate within three months.

“The Federal Government should immediately relocate NNPC and all the offices that have to do with oil/gas sector back to Niger Delta states and immediately replace the Group Managing Director with an indigene of Niger Delta.

“All northern indigenes working in NNPC and any other board that has anything to do with oil/gas should be sacked with immediate effect.

“We demand an independent and sovereign Republic of Niger Delta. We are tired of living with the North under Nigeria. We are tired of the President’s sentiments against the Niger Delta people.

“The President can have time to receive the Chibok girls but could not have time to meet with the representatives of the Niger Delta agitators. Our money has been used to fund Boko Haram, a problem created by the Northerners in order to use it as conduit pipe to siphon the resources of Niger Delta.

“On October 1, 2017 we shall declare our independence come rain, come shine. We shall take our destiny in our hands and free ourselves from the slavery of the North as they are tired of one Nigeria.”

Nigeria Releases Details Of How Paris Club Refund Was Shared Among States

Featured Image

The Federal Government has released what seem to be the details of how it allocated the first tranche of N516.38bn reimbursement made to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory from the Paris Club debt refund.

Based on the schedule of reimbursement, which was released by the Ministry of Finance on Friday in Abuja, five states got the highest amounts of refund from the Federal Government.

The states are Rivers, which got N34.92bn; Delta, N27.6bn; Akwa Ibom, N25.98bn; Bayelsa, N24.89bn; and Kano, N21.7bn.

It is also understood through the analysis of the payment schedule that the five states got a total sum of N135.09bn, representing 26.1 per cent of the entire amount refunded by the Federal Government to all the states.

Lagos got N16.74bn; Katsina, N16.4bn; Kaduna, N15.44bn; Borno, N14.68bn; Jigawa, N14.2bn; Imo, N14.01bn; Niger, N14.42bn; Bauchi, N13.75bn; Sokoto, N12.88bn; and Osun, N12.62bn.

The rest are Adamawa, N10.25bn; Benue, N13.7bn; Ondo, N14.01bn; Taraba, N9.32bn; and the Federal Capital Territory, N1.36bn.

A statement signed by the Director of Information in the Finance ministry, Salisu Dambatta, said the payments were made upon the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari on November 21, 2016.

The statement read in part, “The funds were released to state government as part of the wider efforts to stimulate the economy and were specifically designed to support states in meeting salary and other obligations, thereby alleviating the challenges faced by workers.

“The releases were conditional upon a minimum of 50 per cent being applied to the payment of workers’ salaries and pensions. The Federal Ministry of Finance is reviewing the impact of these releases on the level of arrears owed by state governments.

“A detailed report is being compiled for presentation to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as part of the process for approval for the release of any subsequent tranches.”

Supreme Court Rejects Olisa Metuh’s Appeal To Stop N400m Fraud Trial

Featured Image

The attempt by Olisa Metuh, a former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop his N400 million fraud trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja, was met with a brick wall on Friday as the Supreme Court dismissed his application seeking for a stay of proceedings.

Metuh is standing trial along with Destra Investment Limited for the alleged fraud. He is facing a seven-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

He had filed the application through his counsel, Onyeachi Ikpeazu, SAN, seeking for a stay of proceedings at the High Court.

Ikpeazu had at the March 22, 2017 sitting before Justice Abang, also applied to the court to “stay proceedings”, as the Supreme Court, according to him had begun hearing the appeal.

He argued that the High Court “ought to defer to the Supreme Court”, which had fixed June 9, 2017 to rule on the application.

His application was however, vehemently opposed by prosecution counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, who had argued that it was “a ploy to waste the time of the court”.

Justice Abang had fixed May 2, 2017 to rule on Ikpeazu’s application for a “stay of proceedings” but could not deliver the ruling, noting that the ruling was not ready.

“I handle cases in Abuja, Asaba and Lagos divisions of the court and I have several other judgments and rulings to deliver,” the trial judge said.

However, in the ruling of the five-man panel of judges at the Supreme Court, made up of Justices Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, Musa Dattijo Mohammed, Kudirat Kekere-Okun, Ejembi Eko and Sidi Dauda Bage, which was read by Justice Eko, they held that Metuh’s application for a stay of proceedings, “is in the circumstances dismissed and refused”.

Metuh had on May 24, 2016 also lost at the Appeal Court, to overturn the decision of Justice Abang who had on March 9, 2016 dismissed a similar application.

Tahir, who commended the ruling, noted that “the significant aspect of the ruling is that before now, it is only at the level of the Court of Appeal that the issue of Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA 2015 has been tested.”

NAN reports that Metuh’s trial will now continue on June 19, 2017 before Justice Abang.
