APC Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin Over Anti-Party Activities | Rep Member Debunks Report

Featured Image

The suspended member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, was said to have been expelled from his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday for engaging in anti-party activities

It is also understood that Jibrin was expelled for several offenses, including allegations that he was trying to divide the party and sabotage the administration of the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Speaking at an emergency media briefing, the chairman of the party in Bebeji, Sani Kanti Ranka, accused the former chairman, House Committee on Appropriation of promoting divisive tendencies.

He further accused Jibrin of insubordination and disrespect to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Kano State Governor.

Ranka also alleged that the embattled representative committed “misconduct” at the party’s national level, adding that he had called for the resignation of the president.

The party’s council chairman, who said APC’s action was as a result of its resolution following a report by its disciplinary committee which recommend his expulsion, added that the party would not tolerate disrespect to its leaders and elders.

“All the offenses go contrary to the set rules and regulations of the ruling party, APC. The party set up a committee to that effect before taking this decision. But unfortunately for him, whenever the committee invited him to hear his own side of the complaints sent to him, he always refused to come,” Mr. Ranka said.

The expulsion letter sent to Mr. Jibrin reads, “The committee has submitted its report to the party based on these offenses. And we are informing you officially that from today, June 15th 2017, you stand expelled from our great party, APC. This decision is reached for us to allow peace to reign in our party. So also for the local government, the state and the nation to prosper.”

Meanwhile, the embattled Rep member has debunked reports saying that he has been expelled by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement read: “My attention has been drawn to a false claim attributed to some mischievous impersonators that I’ve been expelled from my party, the All Progressives Congress, at the Local Government branch.

“This report, I’ve gathered, came from a dubious character and known fraudster who is neither the chairman of my party at the local government level nor a part of the party executive at the state level. The party is not even aware of this impersonation making the rounds in the media.

“This is yet another round of character assassinations from career political antagonizers who are perpetually threatened by our advocacy for transparency in public service and political leadership.

“Recall that I honored the invitation of the EFCC in a bid to shed light on the cases of corruption perpetrated by some principal officers of the house of representatives, despite dissuasions by these saboteurs of my party’s change agenda and stand against corruption.

“The initiators of this false claim of my expulsion by my party are hired hacks engaged by some politicians in Abuja in continuation of their futile bids to frustrate my anti-corruption campaigns.

” I wish to remind the public, and especially the media, that this report did not originate from my party, the APC. I have a cordial relationship with my party, and we have been working hand in hand to actualize our agenda for a better Nigeria. “

Aberdeen Manager Derek McInnes Rejects Sunderland Job Offer

Aberdeen have confirmed that manager Derek McInnes will remain at the club after turning down an approach from Sunderland.

Sunderland had been granted permission to speak to Derek McInnes and assistant boss Tony Docherty having agreed compensation with the Dons ahead of the expected move.

However, the duo have now elected to remain at Pittodrie having failed to agree personal terms with Sunderland.

“I am personally absolutely delighted that Derek and Tony have agreed to stay and have never doubted their commitment to the club,” chairman Stewart Milne told the club’s official website.

“Derek is not only ambitious for himself, he has real ambitions for the club and we are all on the same page as to what we would like to achieve over the next period.”

McInnes has been in charge of Aberdeen since 2013, helping the club to their first trophy in 19 years when lifting the Scottish League Cup in 2014.

N’Golo Kante: I Rejected Paris Saint-Germain Before Joining Chelsea

Featured Image

N’Golo Kante has revealed that he turned down an approach from Paris Saint-Germain before joining Chelsea from Leicester City last summer.

Kante was instrumental in helping the Foxes to become the most unlikely Premier League champions in history during the 2015-16 campaign before moving to Stamford Bridge and lifting a second consecutive league title last season.

The 26-year-old’s performances in the 2016-17 season saw him named the PFA Player and FWA Footballer of the Year, but it could have been different had he instead moved back to France with PSG.

“It is true that the PSG were there like the other clubs after my beautiful season in Leicester,” he told Le Parisien.

“But I chose Chelsea after talking with the coach and the sporting director. And I do not regret it. In addition, I like the league and the style of play in England.”

Huddersfield To Sign Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy For Club-record £10m

Featured Image

Huddersfield are closing in on a £10m club-record deal to sign Aaron Mooy from Manchester City, PA reports.

The Australia midfielder spent last season on loan at the club and was the Terriers’ player of the year as they won promotion to the Premier League for the first time.

Press Association Sport understands Huddersfield are in the advanced stages of a deal which will see them pay £8m for the 26-year-old with a further £2m in add-ons.

Aaron Mooy joined from City’s sister club Melbourne City 12 months ago and was named in the EFL team of the season.

The deal beats Huddersfield’s previous record transfer, which was the £1.8m they paid for Christopher Schindler last year.

Mooy began his professional career with Bolton Wanderers and had a spell at St Mirren in Scotland before returning to his native Australia.

He was a key figure in Huddersfield’s return to the top division after a 45-year absence and manager David Wagner said at the end of the season that he was keen to keep him at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Chelsea Preparing £53m Bid For Napoli Defender Kalidou Koulibaly

Featured Image

Chelsea are willing to pay over £50million for Kalidou Koulibaly, but Napoli are not interested in selling their star centre-back at any price, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian side want to keep their squad together for a serious assault on the Serie A title next season.

Last year, Chelsea failed with a £47m offer for Koulibaly, who still has four years remaining on his current contract with Napoli.

The Italian giants are keen to retain their best players but club president Aurelio De Laurentiis could have his head turned by Chelsea’s latest advances.

Koulibaly racked up 38 appearances for Napoli last season and has a contract until 2021 with the Italian giants.

Earlier this week, reports in Italy claimed that Koulibaly’s agent had a gentleman’s agreement with Napoli which would allow the defender to leave if a €60m offer was received.

Maguire Joins Leicester City From Hull

Featured Image

Leicester City have bought their first player ahead of the 2017/18 season. With Maguire coming in from Hull City.

Maguire played a very good season for Hull City, but couldn’t prevent them from relegating, and the centre back has joined Leicester.

He signed a five-year contract at the King Power stadium and the 24-year-old is believed to have cost £17 million.

“It’s obviously a very exciting time for myself,” he told LCFC TV.

“Once I had my eyes on this club, I always wanted to join. Thankfully I’m here so I can’t wait to get the season started and kick on.

“There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the manager here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club. He showed me the way that the club is going. It’s on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer.

“You can see that with the structure of the club, it’s going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity.”

Granit Xhaka Fears Alexis Sanchez Will Quit Arsenal

Featured Image

Granit Xhaka hopes Arsenal teammate Alexis Sanchez will stay at the Emirates this summer.

The striker has been linked with a £40m move to Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

“I hope [he doesn’t leave], of course,” Xhaka told Bild.

“He has qualities on the pitch which are incomprehensible.

“He has made many goals, and is also enormously important outside the box.”

Arsenal have offered Sanchez a new, £300,000-a-week contract but Bayern Munich are understood to be ready to match those terms.

The marksman has been directly involved in 45 goals in 51 appearances this season – 30 goals and assists.

Granit Xhaka added: “Alexis can play with every world team – just like Mesut Ozil.

“I have been able to play with many great players, but these two stick out.”

Asked whether Ozil, in a similar contractual situation to Sanchez, would stay, Xhaka added: “I think so. I owe him a lot, he helped me a lot at first.”

Nigeria Cannot Survive Without The Igbo – Femi Aribisala

Nigeria cannot survive without the Igbo – Femi Aribisala

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Out of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo have by far the worst politicians.

Among the different ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo are without a doubt, one of the most remarkable. So remarkable, indeed, that some have even traced their ancestry to biblical Israel, as the far-flung descendants of Jacob, the Jewish patriarch.

Gad, Jacob’s seventh son, is said to have had three sons who settled in South-eastern Nigeria. These sons; Eri, Arodi and Areli, are believed to have fathered clans in Igbo-land and to have founded such Igbo towns as Aguleri, Arochukwu, Owerri and Umuleri.

Igbo genius

Even the bitterest adversaries of the Igbo cannot but admit that, as a people, they are very resourceful and ingenious. Indeed, this has often been the cause of their envy and dislike by others. However, more enlightened non-Igbo Nigerians see this as a cause for celebration. While today, the centre-point of Nigeria’s manufacturing is situated in the Lagos/Ogun axis, there is no doubt that the real locomotive of Nigeria’s indigenous industrialization lies farther afield in Aba and in the mushrooming cottage-industries of the Igbo heartland.

In one of the paradoxes of Nigerian history, the terrible civil war provoked homespun industrialization in the South-East. Military blockade left the Igbo with little alternative than to be inventive in a hurry. While Nigeria as a nation failed woefully to harness this profitably after the war, it has nevertheless ensured that the Igbo are at the forefront of Nigeria’s economic development today.

Indeed, the way we disregard “made in Aba” today is the same way we disregarded “made in Japan” yesterday. For those of us who believe against the odds that Nigeria is the China of tomorrow, we equally recognize that the ingenuity of the Igbo is an indelible part of the actualization of that manifest destiny.

Hall of fame

The Igbo have been a great credit to Nigeria. They have given us a great number of our favourite sons, including international statesman Nnamdi Azikiwe; military leader Odumegwu Ojukwu; regional leader Michael Okpara; vice-president Alex Ekwueme; mathematical genius Chike Obi; literary icon Chinua Achebe; world-class economist Pius Okigbo; world boxing champion Dick Tiger; international statesman Emeka Anyaoku; and world-class artist Ben Enwonwu. Pemit me to include in this illustrious list even some of my very good Igbo friends: Pat Utomi, Ojo Madueke, Olisa Agbakoba, Joy Ogwu, and Stanley Macebuh.

Let us get one thing straight: Nigeria would be a much poorer country without the Igbo. Indeed, Nigeria would not be Nigeria without them. Can you imagine the Super Eagles without the Igbo? Not likely! Who can forget Nwankwo Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha and our very own Emmanuel Amuneke? Can you imagine Nollywood without the Igbo?

Impossible! Just think of Stella Damascus-Aboderin; Rita Dominic and Mike Ezuruonye. And then there are the diaspora Igbo who many are unaware are of Igbo descent, including concert singer and actor Paul Robeson; Oscar award-winner Forest Whitaker; mega-pastor T.D. Jakes; Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu; and BAFTA actor award-winner Chiwetel Ejiofor.

You may well wonder why I have found it necessary to present this small litany of Igbo who-is-who. I think it is important to emphasise how the Igbo have been very vital to the Nigerian project. They have more than represented Nigeria creditably in virtually all walks of life. This makes it all the more absurd that this same people have been consistently denied the position of executive president of the country in all but six months of Nigeria’s 54 year history.

Civil-war legacy

Of course, a major reason for this was the 1967-1970 civil-war which had the Igbo on the losing side. But that was over 40 years ago. If there is really to be “no victor, no vanquished” in anything more than mere rhetoric, then the rehabilitation of the Igbo back into post civil-war Nigeria will not be complete until an Igbo man finally becomes president of the country.

That imperative should be of interest to every Nigerian nationalist, committed to the creation of one Nigeria where everyone has a deep sense of belonging. The problem, however, is that the Igbo themselves seem to be their own worst enemies in this regard. They appear to be doing their very best to ensure that this inevitable eventuality continues to be denied and delayed.

The Igbo need to forgive Nigerians. No one who lived through the horrors that precipitated the secession of Biafra and led to the civil-war cannot but admit that the Igbo were abused and mal-treated in one of the worst pogroms ever. It was not just that they were senselessly massacred in their own country; it was that they were butchered. I remember vividly gory pictures of scores and scores of the Igbo with hands chopped up and with legs amputated. And then there were the ravages of the three-year civil-war itself, resulting in the death of millions of Igbo; many through starvation and attrition.

The end of the war brought no respite, as the Igbo were pauperized by fiscal decrees that wiped out their savings and their properties were blatantly sequestered by opportunists. All this is more than enough to destroy the spirit of any group of people.

But God has been on the side of the Igbo. It is a testament to their resilience that, in spite of this terrible affliction, they have survived, bounced back and have even triumphed in Nigeria. Forty years have now gone by. The Igbo may never forget what happened to them and, indeed, should never forget. But it is past time for them to forgive.

We are sorry

This is one voice in the Nigerian wilderness saying to the Igbo from the depth of his heart: we are sorry. We are sorry for the way we mistreated you. We are sorry for the way we abused you. We are sorry for starving your children to death. We are sorry for killing your loved ones. We are sorry for stealing your properties. We are sorry for making you feel unwanted in your own country. Please forgive us. It is time to forgive us. It is way past time for the Igbo to forgive Nigerians. We beg you in the name of God.

There was a civil war in the United States, but the defeated South rose from the ashes. Five of the last nine presidents of the United States have been from the South, including Jimmy Carter from Georgia, George Bush from Texas and Bill Clinton from Arkansas. The time is overdue for an Igbo president of Nigeria, but it is not going to happen as long as the Igbo continue to hold a grudge against Nigeria and Nigerians.

There is no question about it: the Ibos cannot elect a president of Nigeria on their own. To do so, they have to join forces with others. They have to form alliances with people from other parts of Nigeria. That is not going to happen as long as the Igbo continue to bear a grudge against practically everybody else.

The Igbo have a gripe against virtually all the people they need. They have this tendency to antagonise their possible alliance partners. They keep dredging up the past, refusing to let sleeping dogs lie. Until they drop these gripes, they are not likely to realise their dreams.

Demonising Yorubas

For example, the Igbo have this tendency to demonise the Yorubas. It is alarming when reading the Vanguard blogs today to see the animosity often expressed between Igbo and Yoruba contributors. The hatred is most unhealthy. Insults are traded with abandon. What is the point of this? For how long will the Igbo demand emotional retribution from every Yoruba for the betrayal of Awolowo? Most of the contributors were not even born when the civil-war took place more than a generation ago.

There is now even transferred aggression against Babatunde Fashola, who made the blunder of repatriating some destitute Igbo from Lagos back to their home-states. The man has apologised for the infraction. He should be forgiven. Blunders are not the exclusive preserve of the non-Igbo. The Igbo have made more than a few themselves and will yet make others.

Paradoxically, the redemption of the Igbos to prominent national office moved apace under President Obasanjo; a Yoruba man. Recognising that Igbos are some of the most seasoned, competent and experienced public-servants, Obasanjo relied heavily on their expertise.

Thanks to him, we got Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at Finance, Charles Soludo at Central Bank, Obiageli Ezekwesili at Education, Ndidi Okereke at the Stock Exchange, and Dora Akunyili at NAFDAC. Indeed, Igbo statesmen came into more prominence under Obasanjo than did Yoruba statesmen. But for some strange reason, this does not seem to have succeeded in assuaging the ill-feeling of the Igbos toward the Yorubas.

Bad politicians

Within the framework of Nigerian politics, the Igbo also have a fundamental problem. Out of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo have by far the worst politicians. They have no recognizable leaders, and have no discernible strategy as to how to negotiate power at the centre. As a result, the Igbo have tended to be short-changed at the federal level. Traditionally, the inconsequential ministries, such as the Ministry of Information, have been zoned to them.

The Igbo need to work out a plan that will take them to Aso Rock. First, they need to choose and groom a de-tribalised leader of the Azikiwe mould who can be sold to non-Igbos. Then, they need to give him undiluted support. At the moment the internal politics of the Igbo militates against this.

The Igbo seem to hate themselves as much as they hate others. They seem to fight themselves with as much venom as they fight others. Every potential Igbo leader seems to have more enemies within than without. This must not be allowed to continue.

The Igbo need to help themselves in order that their friends can help them. In this centenary of Nigeria’s amalgamation, as we embark on the arduous process of crafting our future through a National Conference, we salute the Igbo for their fortitude and implore them to stake their claim in Nigeria. Nigeria cannot survive without the Igbo.

Jordan Pickford Joins Everton In A Club-record £30 Million Transfer

Featured Image

Jordan Pickford has signed for Everton for a £25m fee that could rise to £30m depending on team and individual performances.

He said: “It’s great to sign for the Club. Last season was my first in the Premier League so to get this opportunity with Everton now, to be able to go forward with my career and show everyone what I can do with Everton is unbelievable.

“It’s a great club, a massive club and I think it’s a great opportunity and the right time for me to come to Everton and show what I can do.”

Pickford becomes the third most expensive goalkeeper of all time. Only Ederson, who this month joined Manchester City from Benfica, and Juventus’s Gianluigi Buffon have moved in that position for higher fees.

Koeman was anxious to sign a new No1 following indifferent campaigns from Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg last season. Pickford is likely to be the first of several acquisitions by Everton this summer.

Davy Klaassen, the Ajax captain, could be the next arrival, with Everton close to a deal worth around £25m with the Europa League finalists for the midfielder

Koeman said he was sure Pickford would prove to be a “significant signing”. He said: “ Jordan Pickford is a very talented young professional who also has a real hunger for success and that’s important for us as we now look to make further progress in the seasons ahead.”

Nigeria To Recruit 7,500 Graduates As Tax Advocates

Featured Image

The Federal Government has announced that it will recruit 7,500 graduates as Community Tax Liaison Officers to raise tax awareness among citizens.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a joint statement by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, and the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr BabaTunde Fowler, in Abuja.

N-Power Portal Now Open | Here’s How To Apply As 2017 Recruitment Ends On July 13

The finance minister said that the recruits would be expected to go to schools, churches, mosques, markets and other social places to educate people on the tax system and let them know their obligations.

Adeosun further said that through this initiative, the government is expected to increase the number of tax payers by 35 per cent, from 14 million to about 17 million in two years.

“We will be recruiting them through N-Power and they can apply through the website of the Federal Ministry of Finance or through the N-Power website.

“It’s a two year fixed contract and they will be deployed to states, attached to state Internal Revenue Service or FIRS.

“Their job is to improve the level of education on the Nigeria’s tax system.

“Our tax system is progressive, meaning those who earn less should pay less and those who earn more should pay more.

“A lot of people don’t know that. So it’s a chance to get people on ground to answer all these pertinent questions,” she said.

Adeosun said that graduates of accounting, economics, mathematics and other relevant courses would be given priority under the programme.

She, however, encouraged intelligent graduates interested in a career in tax administration to apply as the government planned to sponsor the recruits to become tax professionals.

“This exercise is extremely important for the fiscal sustainability of states because as you know, most of the revenue for states apart from FAAC is supposed to come from tax.

“So if we improved the number of tax payers, we will be improving the fiscal health of our state governments as well as the Federal Government.

“It’s an important initiative for the nation as we undertake reforms to reduce our over dependence on oil.

“We have to make sure that everyone who is economically active pays tax, no matter how little, they have to contribute to the pool,” she said.

On the remuneration, Adeosun said the recruits would be paid N30, 000 monthly and they stand to receive performance-based incentives measured by the number of people they enrolled during the two year period.

Lending voice on the development, the FIRS chairman reiterated that tax evasion was a punishable offence in the country.

He said that the tax tribunal was being reconstituted as tax dodgers would be prosecuted.

NAN quoted Fowler as urging citizens to be law abiding and pay their tax.

Harry Maguire Completes Leicester City Transfer From Hull For £17m

Featured Image

Harry Maguire has completed his move from Hull City to Leicester, and has signed a five year contract.

A fee of around £17m has reportedly been agreed between the clubs and Maguire will join his new team-mates in early July ahead of Leicester’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

“It’s obviously a very exciting time for myself,” Maguire said. “Once I had my eyes on this club, I always wanted to join. Thankfully I’m here so I can’t wait to get the season started and kick on.

“There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the manager here he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club. He showed me the way that the club is going. It’s on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer.

“You can see that with the structure of the club it’s going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity.”

Aberystwyth Town Manager Tony Pennock Appointed As Hull City First Team Coach

Featured Image

Leonid Slutsky has made his first appointment as Head Coach, with Tony Pennock returning to Hull City to take up the position of First Team Coach.

Pennock held the same role under the management of Mike Phelan in 2016, having previously been in charge of the Club’s Academy for two-and-a-half years, before leaving the Tigers at the same time as Phelan halfway through last season.

He will now assist new boss Leonid Slutsky after the Russian was appointed as Marco Silva’s replacement.

“I’m delighted but a little bit shocked too. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind few days but I couldn’t be happier to be back,” Pennock told the club website.

“I was on holiday this week and got a phone call from the Vice-Chairman who asked me if I was interested in coming back. I met up with him and the manager yesterday and it seemed to go really well and we agreed terms really quickly.

“I didn’t want to leave the Club in the first place and I think most people are very aware of that. Mike Phelan gave me the opportunity to step up to the first team to begin with and I really enjoyed that experience. Unfortunately when Mick and the rest of the staff left then Marco Silva made it clear he wanted to work with his own staff which is completely understandable.

“I was offered the chance to go back to the Academy but I’d enjoyed my time with the first team so much that I decided I didn’t want to go back. I left on good terms with the Club and thankfully I’ve been able to come back to a Club I’ve really enjoyed working for.

Illegal Arms: Court Grants FG’s Application To Shield 14 Witnesses In Dasuki’s Trial

Featured Image

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday granted the request by the Federal Government to shield the identities of 14 witnesses billed to testify against detained former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Dasuki, who served as the NSA under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, is being prosecuted on a seven-count charge bordering on theft of Federal Government’s sophisticated weapons, illegal possession of firearms and money laundering.

In a ruling that was delivered by trial Justice Ahmed Mohammed, the court granted leave for all the prosecution witnesses to give their evidence behind screen.

Justice Mohammed anchored the ruling on section 232 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, which he said permits the use of screen in the prosecution of cases involving economic crime.

“Section 232 (4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act permits the use of a screen in a charge of economic and financial crimes; and money laundering is part of the charges instituted against the defendant.

“Therefore, the request is in order, especially when it has not been shown that it will prejudice against the defendant.” Mohammed declared.

The judge however ordered that the witnesses will not be shielded from the defendant or defence lawyers.

Justice Mohammed therefore dismissed the objection by Dasuki’s lead counsel, Mr Ahmed Raji (SAN), who had argued that the application constituted an abuse of court process.

Raji based his argument on the grounds that a similar application filed by the prosecution in the same case had been dismissed by the former trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola.

The Nigerian government had in the charge before the court, alleged that Dasuki was on July 17, 2015, at his house situated at No. 13, John Khadiya Street, Asokoro, Abuja, found to be in possession of various range of firearms without requisite license, an offence punishable under section 27 (1)(a) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 LFN 2004.

He was accused of retaining the sums of $40,000, N5millon and another $20,000 in the same house and same date, contrary to section 15 (2)(d) of Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011.

The federal government further alleged that the ex-NSA had on July 16, 2015, at his residence at Sultan Abubakar Road and Sabon Birni Road, Sokoto State, retained another $150,000 and N37.6m being part of proceedings of unlawful act, contrary to Section 15 (3) of the Money Laundering Act 2011.

Meanwhile, the judge then fixed September 20 and 21 for the commencement of trial.

Borussia Dortmund II Defender Christoph Zimmermann Joins Norwich City

Featured Image

Norwich’s newest recruit Christoph Zimmermann will renew his working relationship with his former boss Daniel Farke.

The German will join the Canaries on a two-year deal when his contract at Dortmund II runs out on 1 July.

He said: “I’m extremely delighted and very honoured for the opportunity. First of all, the connection is obvious because I worked together with the Head Coach Daniel Farke in Dortmund, and I had extremely good experiences with him.”

Christoph Zimmermann will be called upon during his time at the Canaries. Having been captain at BVB II and with a reputation for what is often simply referred to as ‘being a good pro’, the centre-back will arrive as someone Farke and Norwich will expect to be able to rely on.

Zimmermann came through the youth system at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, making his professional debut for their B-team in the German third division back in 2014.

He reached 50 appearances, scoring two goals, before making the move to BVB’s second string – where Zimmermann played under both Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner and new Norwich head coach Daniel Farke.

Known for being a reliable professional and strong in the air, Zimmermann made 47 appearances for Farke’s side last season as they earned promotion to 3 Liga – the third tier of German football.
