Maradona Calls Dani Alves An Idiot

Featured Image

Diego Maradona has branded Brazilian defender, Dani Alves an idiot, after he criticised the way he won the world cup for Argentina.

Maradona palmed the ball into the net in the 2-1 win over England back in 1986, and went on to win the world cup.

In the same match, the Argentina legend dribbled past five players to score for Albiceleste, however, Alves does not think he should be seen as a role model.

“You want to compare Messi to Maradona? You can’t compare them,” Alves told Brazilian channel Canais Esporte Interativo.

“I would not be proud to say that I won a World Cup with a ‘Hand of God.’ I wouldn’t be able to tell my son that I won a World Cup like this with the whole world talking about it.

“The ‘Hand of God’ tricked us, you have to take this firm position. A sportsman like this can’t be an example for youngsters.”

However, Maradona has now hit back, insisting that Alves is a bad example of a full-back, and has also mocked his playing position.

“Dani Alves is an idiot. He makes 28 passes and only gets four right. As a ‘4’ [right-back], Cafu and Maicon were good. Dani Alves? Poor thing,” he replied, via TyC Sports.

“He speaks because he plays in a position on the pitch where football is not played. They [right-backs] touch the ball three times and make eight fouls per game.”

Fury Clapbacks At AJ After Criticism

Featured Image

Anthony Joshua recently branded Tyson Fury as boring and the former heavyweight champion has hit back with a scathing response on social media.

Joshua dismissed Fury’s criticism of his win over Klitschko, by sayung his fellow Brit, failed to entertain the media in his win over the Ukrainian.

And the suspended British boxer hit back on Instagram, pointing to the fact that Joshua had to suffer a knockdown before winning at Wembley.

“Better to win and be boring than getting dropped all over the floor and scraping a win,” said Fury. “I never got punched, you got carried off the canvas nearly.

“But winning is winning whether you win by an inch or a mile. It’s still winning and I still won.

“Let’s get it on then. I don’t need no warm-up fights.”

He later made a reference to Floyd Mayweather while discussing Joshua’s comments in a further video on social media.

“Now AJ says I’m a boring fighter, but then looks up to Floyd Mayweather,” said Fury. “Floyd has been a master of hitting and not being hit back, and if you look at his last 10 fights he has maybe had one knockout.

“It’s not about the power, how hard you can punch, how good you can take one.

“It’s about the defence and hitting them and not taking the return. Almost like a fighter jet flying in the sky, he hits and then manoeuvres fast, so he doesn’t get any returns, and that’s what boxing is about.”

UEFA Confirm Admission Of RB Leipzig And Salzburg To UCL

Featured Image

The Champions League governing body, UEFA have confirmed that both RB Leipzig and Salzburg will play in the competition.

Both clubs are sponsored by Red Bull and there were thoughts they would not be able to compete, due to a potential violation of Article 5, which relates to the integrity of the competition.

However, UEFA has found no wrongdoing and now RB Leipzig , who qualified in their first season in the topflight, will compete alongside sister club, Salzburg, who qualified by winning the Austrian Bundesliga.

“The Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) has decided to accept the admission of both FC Salzburg and RB Leipzig to the UEFA Champions League 2017/18, having found that Article 5 (Integrity of the competition) of the competition regulations is not breached,” an official statement reads.

“Following a thorough investigation, and further to several important governance and structural changes made by the clubs (regarding corporate matters, financing, personnel, sponsorship arrangements, etc.), the CFCB deemed that no individual or legal entity had anymore a decisive influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition.

“This decision may be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport within ten days, in accordance with Article 34(2) of the Procedural rules governing the UEFA Club Financial Control Body – Edition 2015, as well as Articles 62 and 63 of the UEFA Statutes.

“The CFCB will continue to monitor both clubs to ensure that integrity rules are respected going forward.”

José Mourinho Has Been Accused Of €3.3m Tax Fraud By Spanish Prosecutors

José Mourinho Has Been Accused Of €3.3m Tax Fraud By Spanish Prosecutors

Manchester United boss José Mourinho has been accused of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors investigating his time as Real Madrid’s head coach.

It is understood that the Portuguese manager is accused of defrauding Spain of €3.3m (£2.9m; $3.6m) in taxes between 2011 and 2012.

Although, Mourinho is yet to comment on the allegation, a prosecutor claimed he did not declare income from the use of his image rights in order to get an “illicit benefit”.

In a statement released on Tuesday, a prosecutor in Madrid said the Portuguese manager had committed two counts of tax fraud in 2011 and 2012, saying that “corporate structures were used by the accused in order to conceal revenues generated from his image rights”.

Mourinho failed to declare that income when he submitted his tax returns in the relevant years “with the intention of deriving unlawful benefit”, the prosecutor alleges.

It was gathered that a judge will decide whether the matter will go to court.

Another big name in football accused of the tax fraud is Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who played under Mr Mourinho and shares the same agent.

The player is accused of defrauding tax authorities of €14.7m, by also hiding his income from image rights.

Madrid’s regional state prosecutor has alleged the Portugal player “intentionally” did not declare income of €28.4m related to image rights, and declared €11.5m of earnings from 2011-14 when his real income was almost €43m.

The prosecutor also alleged that the player falsely reported income as coming from real estate, which it said had greatly reduced his tax rate.

Ronaldo denies the accusations and is threatening to leave Spain.

The Portuguese international is set to give evidence in his case on 31 July.

JUST IN: Access Bank, Others Take Over Etisalat Nigeria Over N541 billion Debt

Featured Image

There are very strong indications that Access Bank PLC and other Nigerian and foreign banks have taken over the management of Etisalat Nigeria.

Premium Times is reporting that the takeover came on the back of a futile effort by Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services (EMTS), promoted by-one time Chairman, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Hakeem Bello-Osagie, to reach an agreement with the banks on debt restructuring plan in the protracted $1.72 billion (about N541.8 billion) debt impasse.

It is understood that EMTS Holding BV has up to June 23 to complete the transfer of 100 percent of the company’s shares in Etisalat to the United Capital Trustees Limited, the legal representative of the consortium of banks.

Also, Etisalat Group, the parent company of Etisalat Nigeria, announced the takeover on Tuesday in a filing to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate.

The filing, with reference number Ho/GCFO/152/85, and dated June 20, 2017 signed by Etisalat Group Chief Financial Officber, Serkan Okandan, said efforts by EMTS to restructure the repayment of the syndicated loan by a consortium of banks to Etisalat Nigeria collapsed.

“Further to our announcement dated 12 February, 2017, Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC, “Etisalat Group” would like to inform you that Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited “EMTS” (“the company), established in Nigeria and an associate of Etisalat Group with effective ownership of 45% and 25% ordinary and preference shares respectively, defaulted on a facility agreement with a syndicate of Nigerian banks (“EMTS Lenders”).

“Subsequently, discussions between EMTS and the EMTS Lenders did not produce an agreement on a debt restructuring plan.

“Accordingly, the Company received a default and security Enforcement Notice on 9 June 2017 requesting EMTS Holding BV (EMTS BV) established in the Netherlands, and through which Etisalat Group holds its interest in the company) requiring EMTS BV to transfer 100% of its shares in the company to the United Capital Trustees Limited (the Security Trustee”) of the EMTS Lenders by 15 June 2017.

“Subsequently the EMTS Lenders extended the deadline for the share transfer to 5.00 pm Lagos time on 23 June 2017,” the filing said.

The telecommunication company has been under pressure since 2016, following the demand notice for the recovery of a $1.72 billion (about N541.8 billion) loan facility it obtained from a consortium of banks in 2015.

The loan, which involved a foreign-backed guaranty bond, was for the mobile telephone operator to finance a major network rehabilitation and expansion of its operational base in Nigeria.

Unable to meet its debt servicing obligations agreed since 2016, the consortium, prodded by their foreign partners, threatened to take over the company and its assets across the country.

But the intervention of the telecom sector regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and its financial sector counterpart, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, persuaded the banks to rethink their threat and give Etisalat a chance to renegotiate the loan’s repayment schedule.

Alleged N9.79bn Fraud: Ex-Governor Of Benue ‘Suswam’ Remanded In Kuje Prison

Featured Image

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered a former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, and two of his former aides, to be remanded in Kuje Prisons, Abuja.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole, on Monday, during court session, made the remand order after the three defendants were arraigned on 32 counts of diversion of a total sum of N9.79bn meant for the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme.

Although the judge granted each of the three defendants bail in the sum of N250m, among other conditions, he ordered that they should be remanded in prison pending when the Deputy Chief Registrar, Litigation of the Federal High Court, Abuja would inform the court that the bail conditions had been met, The Punch reports.

The prosecution had alleged in the 32 counts preferred against the three defendants that a total of N9,791,602,453.8 was meant for the SURE-P scheme and a small fraction of it for police reform.

The prosecution also added that the money was allegedly diverted by the defendants between 2012 and 2015 when Suswam was the governor of the state.

The prosecution accused the three defendants in the 32 counts of conspiracy, conversion of property, which is a cumulative sum of N9.79bn, allegedly derived directly from corruption; collaboration to conceal the property derived from corruption; obtaining by false pretences and accepting cash payments exceeding the amount authorised by the law.

The offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under various provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 and Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act.

Meanwhile, Suswam and his co-defendants pleaded not guilty to all the 32 counts when read to them before Justice Kolawole.

Aside Suswam, others named as defendants are a former commissioner in Benue State, Mr. Omadachi Oklobia, and a former Accountant, Benue State Government House Administration, Mrs. Janet Aluga.

After much deliberation Justice Kolawole fixed October 10, 17, 19, 20 at 11.45am on each of the days for trial.

Sevilla Close To Signing Manchester City’s Nolito

Featured Image

Sevilla president Jose Castro has given an update on the club’s pursuit of Manchester City’s Nolito.

Nolito has declared he wants to leave City this summer and has mentioned interest from Sevilla and former club Celta Vigo.

“When we talk about top players, we can not say things are done, but we are advancing with some players and one of them is Nolito,” he told Radio Sevilla.

“We are getting into the position so he can play with Sevilla.”

City paid Celta Vigo 18 million euros for the player just last summer, so Castro understands the money involved in a deal for a player of this kind of stature.

The Sevilla chief is also not ruling out a deal for Stevan Jovetic, after a successful loan spell from Inter last campaign.

An approach has already been rejected, however he claims deals will be done before July 3, which is the scheduled date for a return to work.

2017 Budget: Ondo State Assembly Passes Bill Of N170bn Into Law

Featured Image

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday passed the appropriation bill for the 2017 budget, totaling N170 billion, into law.

The bill was passed after two weeks of presentation to the State House of Assembly by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, via the Chair of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Sunday Olajide.

On June 6, Governor Akeredolu sent the budget with a total sum of N169.720 billion to the members of the State Assembly for the 2017 fiscal year.

However, on Monday, the budget proposal was increased by N1.126 billion from the initial N169.720 billion after a deliberation among lawmakers before it was finally passed into law at the plenary session by the Speaker David Oloyelogun.

Oloyelogun explained that the passage of the budget was delayed due to the scrutiny of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, adding that the committee recommended that the budget be increased to N170 billion.

“The increment will help some of the government ministries, departments and agencies to execute projects already initiated,” he said.

He further said that the budget would be sent to the governor for his assent, after which the executives will begin to implement the contents of the budget.

In the new budget, N95,159, 200.00 was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, N59,186,684.00 was proposed for capital expenditure while N8.1bn was earmarked for debt servicing.

The appropriation bill made provision for N8.3bn for statutory transfers for the services of the state for 2017.

Olajide also explained that the committee redistributed the budget on some critical areas which brought about a marginal increase of N1,126,000,000.

“Hence, the overall budgetary provision will now be N170,846,580,000,” the lawmaker said.

Court Remands Niger PDP Chairman ‘Tanko Benji’ In Prison

Featured Image

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Mr. Tanko Beji, has been remanded in prison custody, by a Minna High Court on Monday.

During court hearing, the presiding judge, Justice Aliyu Maiyaki, held that Beji, who had been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for about two weeks, would remain in prison custody until hearing on his bail application on Friday, June 23.

Mr. Ayodele Oladeji, counsel to former Niger State Governor, Alhani Babaginda Aliyu, had urged the court to grant the PDP Chairman bail on the ground that he is a lawyer who has been practising in the state.

However, the EFCC lawyer, Mr. Gbolahon Latona, moved against the bail and urged the judge to use his discretion on the matter.

The PDP Chairman was arraigned on Monday by the EFCC in amended charges alongside former Governor Aliyu and former commissioner of environment, Mr. Umar Nasko, for alleged criminal breach of trust punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Niger State, Cap 94, Vol. 3 Laws of 1992.

In the amended charge, the former governor who is the first accused in the case is standing trial on a seven-count charge of criminal breach of trust and abuse of office while he was governor of the state between 2007 and 2015.

Beji who is the second accused person, is also standing trial on two count charges of criminal breach of trust and abetting the commission of crime punishable under Sections 85 and 312 of the Penal Code of Niger state; while Nasko is standing trial on three count charge of criminal breach of trust and abuse of office.

The three accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

Justice Maiyaki, however, did not tamper with the earlier bail granted Babangida and Nasko, saying the amended charges do not entail tampering with their bail and that that they did not violate the stipulated bail conditions.

NAN reports that the judge fixed September 11 to 15 for further hearing on the matter.

More Trouble For Dammy Krane As US Police Say “They Found 7 Fake Credit Cards In His Pockets”

Featured Image

The embattled Nigerian singer, Oyindamola Emmanuel Johnson-Hunga, better known by his stage name, Dammy Krane, may be in for more trouble after the US Police confirmed that seven fake credit cards were found in his pockets on June 1, when he was arrested at Opa-locka Executive Airport in Miami Dade, Florida.

A report in Miami New Times said the police have now slammed a nine count felony charge at Miami Dade’s criminal court for credit card forgery and grand theft against the 23 year-old pop artist.

It is understood that Krane’s trouble began after he was said to have used a bogus card to book a private jet flight to Washington, D.C.

When accosted by the police for search, they found seven false credit cards in his wallet, according to the police report, which was detailed on Miami New Times publication on Monday, June 19, 2017.

Agents from the mobile-phone booking app TapJets had called police, when they found that the first card Dammy Krane tendered was bogus.

The jet company also told Miami-Dade Police that Krane and a partner, Chukwuebuka Ilochonwu, had booked a $10,943 trip on a jet from Opa-locka to Washington, D.C.

Two MDPD officers staked out the jet runway until Krane and Ilochonwu showed up. Police searched the pair and found seven cards in Krane’s pants pocket. When authorities checked the cards later, all seven had numbers on the face that didn’t match the numbers on the security strip on the back.

MDPD says Krane used one of those cards to book his flight and then gave TapJet two other fake cards when he was asked for backup cards for the travel.

His co-defendant, Ilochonwu, police soon learned, was out on bond on four other credit card fraud charges.

He had been arrested in April on felony charges stemming from a case in Miami Beach.

Krane who is now out on bail has tried to exculpate himself from the arrest mess, blaming “agents” and assuring fans he’s innocent.

“I do not partake in fraud,” Krane says. “I do not partake in such activities. Agents booked my flights with fraudulent cards.”

“My life is all about my music, and that’s what I’m all about,” he says. “I’m sorry I got caught up in this mess.”
