Naira Steadies As CBN Injects $462m Into Foreign Exchange Market

Featured Image

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday injected $462,336,426.74 million into the Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, barely days after it intervened with 194 million dollars.

Mr Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director in charge of Corporate Communications, CBN made this known in a statement in Abuja.

He said the intervention was in line with the commitment of the apex bank to sustain and deepen flexibility in the foreign exchange market to further enhance foreign exchange flow in the economy.

A breakdown of the forex intervention figures obtained from the bank indicated that the Retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) received the largest allocation of $267,336,426.74.

The CBN also offered $100,000,000 as wholesale interventions, while $50,000,000 was allocated to the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) forex window.

Those requiring foreign exchange for Business/Personal Travel Allowances, tuition and medical fees, among others, got a total allocation of $45,000,000.

With yesterday’s forex supply, the total intervention made by the CBN for the week came to $657,336,426.74.

The CBN spokesman said: “the leadership of the CBN is impressed by the positive impact its current foreign exchange management is having on the manufacturing sector, agriculture and economic activities in general across the country.”

Okorafor expressed optimism that the Bank’s intervention, coupled with complementary fiscal efforts, would restore the economy to the path of growth.

Meanwhile, the naira maintained its steady rate against major currencies around the globe, appreciating to N360 to the dollar in the BDC segment of the market on Friday.

FG Evacuates 1,800 Nigerians Illegally Residing In Saudi Arabia

Featured Image

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Saturday commenced the evacuation of 1,800 Nigerians illegally residing in Saudi Arabia.

This is just as about 198 persons, including women and children, returned to the country aboard a Med-View Airline jet.

It was gathered that the 198 Nigerians, who were given amnesty to return to the country, arrived the Aminu Kano International Airport at about 10 am on Saturday.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency in Kano State received the first batch of the returnees.

The Consulate General of Nigeria in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, Muhammad Yahya-Sani, who led the illegal immigrants to Nigeria, told journalists at the airport that the Federal Government sponsored their return to Nigeria.

According to him, the illegal migrants voluntarily reported to the Nigerian embassy for deportation to Nigeria in compliance with a three-month evacuation notice by Saudi authorities, which will expire on July 24 (Monday).

Yahya-Sani said the returnees were not deported, but that they voluntarily accepted the amnesty offer granted them by the Saudi authorities for illegal immigrants to leave the country.

“They decided on their own to return to Nigeria. The Saudi authorities offered amnesty to all illegal immigrants to leave the country within three months,” he said.

Arriving with their personal effects, the official handed over the returnees to NEMA officials at the airport, who documented their return before they subsequently departed to their respective hometowns and villages.

Everton Plot Move For Hull City’s Kamil Grosicki

Featured Image

Everton boss Ronald Koeman wants to throw relegated Hull City’s Kamil Grosicki a Premier League lifeline, reports the Mirror.

The Poland international winger, 29, only joined the Tigers in January.

Kamil Grosicki has impressed during his short stint with the Tigers thus far, even nabbing the PFA Player of the Month award for April.

Koeman is ready to pay £7.7million for the 29-year-old Polish winger, who is keen to quit the Tigers this summer.

Grosicki has already rejected a move to Bundesliga outfit Freiburg because he wants to carry on playing in England’s top flight – and his representatives want to open talks with the Toffees .

Newcastle, Watford and Crystal Palace are also interested in Grosicki. But Koeman is in pole position to land the wide-man

Real Madrid Will Not Sign David De Gea -Jose Mourinho

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho can “guarantee” David De Gea will be staying at Manchester United this summer, saying Real Madrid missed the chance to sign the goalkeeper.

De Gea has long been linked with a return to the Spanish captial but, speaking on United’s pre-season tour of the USA, Mourinho insisted there is no chance De Gea will leave this summer – and suggested Real may have burned their bridges.

“I can guarantee that he’s not going this season, that I can,” the United boss said. “And my feeling is that it will be very difficult for him to go because he’s a very honest boy, very straight.

“He was contacted for a long time, the club was closed. Then we open because I always have this feeling of when a player has a desire to go I don’t like to stop players to go because in the end you don’t get from them what you expect from them if they want to move and they don’t move.

“So we open it and then they decide to close, and I don’t think the feeling for him is very, very good.

“I see him really happy and focused and working better than ever, so for me 100 per cent he stays with us.”

Impossible To Sign Gareth Bale From Real Madrid -Jose Mourinho

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has insisted that Manchester United did not target Gareth Bale this summer because it would have been a waste of time.

The Real Madrid forward, who has won three Champions League since moving to the Bernabeu from Tottenham, recently dismissed such speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

And Mourinho insists Gareth  Bale was not a summer target, saying it would be “mission impossible” just like a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Yeah, the same (as Ronaldo),” Mourinho said. “No (he was not on my list of targets). No, because you have contacts, you have feelings, you understand things.

“I think it was clear that Bale likes Madrid, likes the challenge, likes the situation. He’s in a club in a very good situation now.

“I never felt a desire from him to leave, so why lose time and energy on that? No.”

Mourinho, meanwhile, is still attempting to bolster his United squad having added just two players — Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof — since the end of last season.

Efforts are still being made to sign Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, but Mourinho was reluctant talk specifically about players yet to sign for United.

“Names is difficult for me, the players belong to clubs and are in preseason,” he said. “The managers and owners are not happy if players talk about them — I’m the same.

“My plan for the evolution of the team, my second transfer window, was to get four players and get balance and make a better squad.

“But with the development of the market, I was getting the feedback from Mr Woodward and I repeat, the market is very difficult.

“If the club has no chance to give me the four players, I like my group and I go with them, but I still have the hope I can have a third player, and maybe a fourth.”

Roma Sign Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov

Featured Image

Aleksandar Kolarov has signed a three-year deal with Roma, the Serie A club have announced.

Kolarov has completed a €5m (£4.4m) move to the Stadio Olimpico after being allowed to leave Manchester City.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a successful seven-year spell at the Etihad after joining from Lazio in 2010 but the Serbia international was forced to play a bit-part role last season under Pep Guardiola.

Kolarov will now join up with the Italian club in Boston as they continue their pre-season tour of the United States.

‘When I came in 2010, honestly, I didn’t expect to play so long,’ Kolarov told mancity.com.

‘Today is the day I have to say goodbye. Everything was quick the last couple of days. For me, it’s a very sad day.

‘In every part of the Club we have improved not 100 per cent but 200 per cent. Now we are a far better Club than what we were when I came. I am proud that I was part of making City the Club that it is.

For me it was a great pleasure to play for this shirt.’

The 31-year-old’s departure has cleared the decks for City to launch a world record bid for a defender – as Mendy has been high on their wanted list since impressing in Monaco’s two-legged victory over City in the Champions League’s round of 16.

Zinedine Zidane Confident That Cristiano Ronaldo Will Stay At Real Madrid

Featured Image

Zinedine Zidane has expressed his confidence that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Real Madrid for “the next two or three years”.

“There has been a lot of talk surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, that he wanted to go,” Zidane said. “I only believe in one thing – whenever I’ve spoken to him, he has been very relaxed.

“He’s on holiday and he will be back with us on the fifth (of August). I listen, just like everyone else, but the only thing I’m concerned with is what he wants to do with Real Madrid.

“He’ll be here with us on the fifth and I think he’ll stay for the next two or three years he’s got left with us.”

The former France international admits that managing the happiness of Ronaldo and the rest of his teammates has been a challenge during his tenure as Real Madrid boss, but he has to put the needs of the club before any individual.

“It’s not about the happiness of the players. Managing this squad, managing these players, it’s my job,” Zidane said. “I’m going to use all my players because we’re going to play 50, 60, 70 matches at times. I’m going to need all of them.

“In the end, I’m not here to make a certain player happy because you can play someone 50 games and then leave him out for one and he’s pissed.

“The idea is something else because managing this squad, you’re utilizing all of the players. In the end last season, everything went well. We won and the players had confidence in what I’m trying to do and that is the most important.”

Ancelotti: Bayern Should Not Be Losing 4-0

Featured Image

Bayern Munich manager, Carlo Ancelotti has acknowledged his defeat to Milan, but insists his side must not lose like that again.

Goals from Kessie, Calhanoglu and a double from Cutrone dispatched Bayern Munich 4-0.

Bayern lost to Arsenal and only have two more matches before their season begins with a match against Dortmund.

“I am surprised by the result,” he told a news conference. “I am disappointed, we did not have any balance and we did not play well. This should not happen to us.

“The transition game did not work. There is still time to prepare for the season and that is what we need to do. In Shanghai [against Arsenal] we played well for 50 minutes.

“The results are not good. The most important thing is to improve our condition and not have any injuries so we are ready for the Supercup.”

Activities in the hub of Africa’s number one economic city were paralysed on Saturday as Lagos residents visit the polling unit in droves to elect their chairpersons and councillors across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.

Recall, the State Government on Wednesday extended the restriction of movement across the State, adding that it had been slightly expanded and will now be enforced between 7 am and 3pm as against the 8am and 2pm it had earlier announced on Sunday.

It is understood that a total of 12 political parties presented candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the election.

The parties include Accord Party (AP), Action Alliance (AA), Alliance for Democracy (AD), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and Kowa Party (KP).

Predictably a two-horse race between the ruling party in the state, the APC, and the PDP; the in-fighting within the two parties in the state has opened the window for the other contenders to give a shot at winning the race, Premium Times reports.

According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the results of the chairmanship elections will be declared at the collation centre in each of the local councils, while that for councillorship elections will be announced at ward collation centres.

The day was greeted with heavy downpour coupled with the early morning traffic that created a temporary setback.

Van Nistelrooy: United Signed Lukaku At The Right Time

Featured Image

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, former Manchester United striker, believes the signing of Lukaku came at the perfect time.

Lukaku completed his £75 million move from Everton to Manchester United and has already scored two goals .

Van Nistelrooy scored a host of goals before leaving United and he was a fan favourite, something he is tipping Lukaku for.

“I actually remember playing against Romelu Lukaku. I was at Hamburg, he was at Anderlecht, and it was in the Europa League,” Van Nistelrooy told United’s official website.

“I was so impressed with his fitness and physical ability, as well as his touch. His will to succeed was incredible, he never gave in and always kept fighting. Even from a young age, I was impressed by him.

“He’s unbelievably strong and, with the pace he has, he often puts away the chances he gets. I think he’s one of the true number nines, like Harry Kane at Tottenham – they’re strong centre-forwards who are also a reference point during the build-up play. Romelu is strong on the ball but also when making runs and finishing chances.

“He’s proven himself at Everton. His challenge now is to make another step up and to prove himself at his new club as well. It’s different playing at United to playing at Everton, so it will be a mental step, too.

“The pressure is different, so if he’s capable of dealing with that, I can’t see any problems. I also think having better players around him will help and I think he’ll fit in really well. I expect he’ll start hitting his peak now.

“From the club’s point of view, it’s the perfect time to sign him. Over the next six, seven or eight years, United will hopefully have a great centre-forward in Romelu Lukaku.”

One of the counts reads: “That you Nwobike, on the 19th day of March, 2015 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court,  intentionally gave the sum of N750, 000 to Hon. At the resumed hearing today, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, tendered a compact disc marked exhibit P21 containing text messages from Nwobike’s mobile phone to a court official.

In the compact disk, which was played on a projector mounted within the court room, Oyedepo told the court how Nwobike had sent text messages, at various times, to one Jide, a Deputy Registrar with the Federal High Court, Lagos.

He told the court that Nwobike admitted to have received and read a message from Jide on September 23, 2014, saying, “Kuya may not resume yet”.

Oyedepo also told the court that Nwobike admitted to have sent another text message to Mr. Jide, saying,  “Suit No FHC/L/CS/1133/2014: (1) Dana Group of Companies Plc (2) Dana Drugs Ltd (3) Dana Impex Ltd Vs (1) Sterling Bank Plc (2) Mr. Kunle Ogunba, SAN (3) Corporate Affairs Commission (4) Chief Registrar of Tiles, Lagos State.

In his response, Nwobike claimed that he knew Jide works at the Federal High Court in administrative capacity.

Nwobike also confirmed that though he had appeared before Justice Kuya, he has never seen Jide call cases in his( Kuya) court.

“I cannot say that some of the matters he filed on September 23, 2014 were assigned to Justice Yinusa.

“I can’t really say which judge presided over all these suits, but the one Kunle Ogunba, SAN, filed went to Justice Yinusa,” he told the court.

Also, Nwobike confirmed that he sent a text message, which read “Please, help me”, to Jide on June 30, 2014 in a suit: “FHC/L/CS/1009/14 Lanre Olaoluwa and Federal Ministry of Power and Steel. Yinusa J very well (sic)”.

The learned silk further confirmed to the court that on June 30, 2014, his chambers paid the sum of N56, 040 (Fifty-six Thousand, Forty Naira) for filing the suit, which was assigned to Justice Yinusa.

When asked if he knew Justice Yinusa’s signature, he answered in the affirmative, saying, “I am familiar with Justice Yinusa’s signature because he had signed different judgments.”

The defendant also confirmed that he forwarded another text message to Jide on July 9, 2014, where he wrote:  “NESTLE VS FIRS FHC/L/CS/940/201 Yinusa. Thanks”.

Oyedepo further told the court about a number of suits that the defendant confirmed to have emanated from his chambers.

According to him, “On June 26, 2014, he sent the details of a suit to Mr. Jide, who replied that  “940/14 is already there. I did it last week”

Oyedepo told the court that Nwobike sent another text message to Jide, where he wrote: “Suit No. FHC/L/CS/347/14 between Professor Emmanuel Adegbeyeni & 6 Ors Vs Mr. Biodun Agbaje & 15 Ors (sic)”.

“It was eventually assigned to Justice Yinusa,” Oyedepo added.

In his response, Nwobike told the court that he had no relationship with Justice Yinusa, adding that “I have never been his very close friend or very close enemy.”

Oyedepo also told the court that Nwobike received a text message from Jide on November 3, 2013, where he ( Jide) said : “Remind me about this case tomorrow morning FHC/I/CS/960/13” to which Nwobike replied: “Thanks, my dear brother. I will do that.”

The prosecution also mentioned that Nwobike had, on November 1, 2013, sent a text to Jide, saying, “Premier Plant Leasing Nig Ltd Vs Diamond Suit No FHC/CS/960/2013 writ dated and filed on 9th July 2013 Kurya please my Bro. Nwobike”.

Buhari And The Descendants Of Shimei – Femi Adesina

Featured Image

Buhari And The Descendants Of Shimei, By Femi Adesina

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

There is nothing new under the sun, goes a popular saying. In fact, the more things seem to change, the more they appear the same. From time immemorial, some people have spoken evil of leadership, cast aspersions on them, and generally portrayed themselves as the scum of the earth. No matter how a country loves its leader, there will naturally be those that the Good Book calls “filthy dreamers” who “despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.” That is why as spokesman to President Muhammadu Buhari, I never respond to such people. Their type would always be around.

President Buhari has been indisposed since the beginning of the year. It is human, and presidents, despite their elevated status, remain human.

If there is anybody who considers himself 100 percent healthy, or who bears what William Shakespeare calls “a charmed life,” let that person stand up to be identified. All mortals are doomed to sickness, they can recover, and they can die. That is the truth that has been internalised by millions of people praying for the recovery of our president. And that is where the shallowness, vacuousness, and hollowness of people who wish the president dead, and carry unfounded rumours, is on stark display. Filthy dreamers. They speak evil of dignities, and despise dominion. But we forgive them, for they know not what they do. When President Buhari returns (as God would make him do) where would they hide their faces? In shame.

Now, I started by saying we would always have scumbags around. It is inevitable. They are the descendants of Shimei, the son of Gera, whom I want to introduce to you now.

Who is Shimei? Well, I met him on the pages of the Good Book, and he bears striking similitude to some people in our country today. The evil wishers, the hate monger, and those who spend their days conjecturing tragedy for leadership.

Absalom, the son of King David, had led an insurrection against his father. And the king of Israel fled, with some of his supporters in tow. As David got to a place called Bahurim, the Holy Bible records that Shimei, the son of Gera, a man of the family of Saul, came out, and started cursing the fleeing king. You don’t kick a man who is down, goes a saying, but Shimei not only cursed David, he also threw dust and stones at him. It was a show of shame.

David had succeeded Saul as king of Israel. And Shimei was from the family of Saul (read, People’s Democratic Party, PDP). Shimei hadn’t forgotten the bloody nose the family of Saul got, when the kingship was taken away from them, and given to David. So when the latter got into a time of travail, there was no pity at all from people still smarting from bloody noses.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), inspired by Muhammadu Buhari, halted the 60-year pipe dream of PDP at the polls in 2015. Has the latter forgotten? No, they won’t forget till forever. But so much is the animus, the antipathy towards the president that they wish him dead. While millions of Nigerians are praying, some elements are rejoicing, and imagining evil. But they forget: man is not God, and Jehovah always has the final say. The descendants of Shimei need to learn vital lessons from their forebear.

As the base fellow assaulted the fleeing king, Abishai, one of David’s mighty men, said: “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and take off his head.”(2 Samuel, 16:9). But David restrained him, saying if God had not permitted Shimei, he could not have done what he was doing.

President Buhari has tolerated people who have called him all sorts of names in the past two years. If he didn’t move against them directly, he could have allowed many Abishais to move against them, “and take off their heads.” But not our president, a reformed democrat, a pious man, who has resolved to leave the people suffused by hatred unto God. And will they get their just desserts one day? As night follows the day, they will. If not from man, they will get it from God. Their forefather, Shimei did. He reaped what he sowed.

After some time, the rebellion led by Absalom was crushed by loyal troops, and David regained the throne. As he headed back into the city, who came to meet the king, with one thousand of his relatives, pleading for mercy? Shimei. The Yorubas say the same mouth that the snail used to abuse the gods, is what it uses to lick the dusts of the earth. Shimei had suddenly become gentle. And humble, too. He fell down before David, and said:”I have sinned. Have mercy on me. Don’t remember what I did against you on the day you went out of Jerusalem.”

Heh, on a certain day, some people would come to prostrate, begging for mercy, asking President Buhari to forgive and forget. What will the president do? What did David do? Abishai said again to King David: “Let me bring down the head of this man, who cursed, and threw stones at you?”

But David said to Shimei: “Thou shall not surely die.” And the king swore unto him.

But did Shimei live happily ever after? Old sins, they say, have long shadows. Before David died, he instructed Solomon his son, who succeeded him, not to forget to deal with Shimei. At least, David had kept his part of the bargain not to kill Shimei.

What did Solomon do? He restricted Shimei to Jerusalem, adding that any day he went out of the city would be his last on earth. Days, weeks, and months went by. Shimei remained gentle. But on a certain day, two servants belonging to him ran away to Gath, another city. Shimei saddled his horses, and led his men to bring back the servants. He had received mercy from David, but he couldn’t show mercy to the servants. Mercy begets mercy.

The story was told to Solomon. Shimei has left Jerusalem. He went to Gath, contrary to your instructions. It was time for judgment. Solomon commanded that what Abishai had long wanted to do should be done to Shimei. And his head was brought down.

Will the descendants of Shimei repent, turn a new leaf, and become human? Will they recognise their own mortality? He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still. He that is overtaken by hate, let him remain hateful still. Behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give to every man according as his work shall be.

Let the descendants of Shimei who have ears to hear please hear. There is recompense for evil, and there is also recompense for good.

Bonucci completed his move to AC Milan from Juventus on Thursday, for a deal worth €42 million.

The veteran defender’s exit at Juventus was shrouded in talks of a falling out with Massimiliano Allegri.

“Having discussions over the years is normal, as I am someone who is very direct and always speaks the truth,” Bonucci – who helped Juve to six successive Serie A titles – told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Morata On Joining Chelsea: I Am Leaving Home

Featured Image

Alvaro Morata says leaving Real Madrid for Chelsea to him, felt like he was leaving home.

Morata scored 15 goals in the La Liga for Real Madrid, but could only manage 14 starts at the team.

He was a product of the youth system and has already spent two seasons at Juventus, before returning to Spain after a buyback clause.

Morata has now left the club for Chelsea in search of first team football.

“Today is a special day, different…” Morata wrote on Twitter. “There are many things I would like to say now, there are many feelings, many memories that now gather in my head.

“Today my second spell at Real Madrid finishes, today a new phase of my career begins. I’m sure that some will not understand my decision, others will certainly not support it… but in the end that’s what it is, my decision. A decision well thought through and considered.

“I’m leaving home, because that’s how I feel at Real Madrid. I’m going with the clear conscience of someone who gave everything in every training session, in every minute in which I was lucky enough to wear the shirt, with the calm of having been important in an amazing year in which we lifted four trophies, a year that I’m sure neither you nor I will ever forget…”

“I only have words of thanks for Real Madrid. I’m the player that I am now thanks to this club,” the striker continued. “I want to make the most of these lines of my farewell, which cannot be done in any other way, in order to say thank you: thank you to the president for having understood my vision, for understanding that I’ve made a decision and for respecting it.

“Thank you also to the coaching staff for everything they have helped me and supported me with, I am a better player than a year ago and it’s thanks to them. Thank you also to my team-mates, with whom I shared an amazing season. Thank you to each and every one of the employees of the club who worked hard every day to make life easier for the players.

“And thank you, of course, to the fans, because since my return you have made me feel loved and valued, because you’ve always been there, from my presentation until the last night at Cibeles… Lastly, and most importantly, thank you to my wife, thank you to my family, to my agent and my friends, who are always there and never let you down.”

LG Election: Lagos Extends Restriction Of Movement Tomorrow

Featured Image

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday extended the restriction of movement across the State on Saturday July 22, 2017 in view of the elections that will hold across the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the State.

The state government noted that it had been slightly expanded and will now be enforced between 7 am and 3pm as against the 8am and 2pm it had earlier announced on Sunday, in a press release on Sunday by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde.

Ayorinde, in the statement, said the government also reiterated the call for a peaceful and orderly conduct by the electorates on Saturday as the State holds elections that will usher in new Chairmen and Councillors in the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the State.

According to the Commissioner, the State Government and security agencies will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a free and fair election, while ensuring safety of electoral officials and voters.

He also urged residents to be peaceful and orderly in casting and protecting their votes in their respective wards for Chairmen and councilors who are expected to drive development at the third tier of government.

Ayorinde explained that as the election that would bring on board a new set of public officers for the next four years at the local government level, the restriction of movement will allow the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the security agencies to distribute electoral materials in good time and ensure a seamless electoral process.

“The police and other security agencies have been maintaining law and order since the commencement of campaign by political parties. They are poised to ensure that the voting on Saturday is conducted smoothly without public disturbance,” he said.

He added that all political parties, candidates and their supporters as well as the general public are assured of safety throughout the period of voting and collation.

The Commissioner also thanked Lagosians for always being peace-loving, while urging them to perform their civic obligation by trooping out with their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) “to show their commitment to participatory democracy and the importance of development at the local government level.”

Klopp Insists Coutinho Is Staying

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp is insisting and maintaining his stance that Philippe Coutinho will not be sold by Liverpool.

Liverpool rejected a £72 million bid for Coutinho from Barcelona, insisting the playmaker is not for sale at any price.

Klopp was saying this in Asia ahead of the Asia Trophy final against Leicester City, insisting he is not selling a key player.

“Yes, we can say that [he’s not for sale],” the manager said.

“But this is not just since this morning or yesterday – I’m not sure it was different at any time.

“I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players of Liverpool. I think a few people in the room are more surprised. It’s not a compliment, it’s obvious that people see we have good players.

“But a very important message maybe, is that we are not a selling club.

“We believe in working together, we believe in developing together, we believe in using our basis, we want to make the next step together, and for this, we need to stay together.”
