Alli On Shelvey Incident: No Need To React

Featured Image

Dele Alli says he intends to keep his emotions in check, after he was involved in an altercation with Jonjo Shelvey in the 2-0 win against Newcastle.

Shelvey who captained the magpies was sent off shortly after the second half for trampling on Alli.

The England international who scored in the 2-0 win says it was important to not react and keep the team going.

“I’ve had a few talks with the gaffer [Mauricio Pochettino] and a couple of people,” Alli said. “I’ve been caught out a couple of times with my temper.

“It’s something I like to keep in my game and it was a game today when we had to keep our cool. There was no need to react today.

“We didn’t want to get too heated up and get pulled into what they wanted us to and make it more of a physical battle than a game of football.”

“We knew it was going to be a physical game today,” Alli added. “They didn’t make it easy for us and it’s a difficult place to come.
“We knew if we stuck to the game plan then the chances would come. They did and we put them away.
“[Shelvey’s red card] happens sometimes in football. He’s a great player and I’m sure he’s going to be disappointed.

“It was important that we stayed professional and just did what we knew we had to do. We kept the ball moving, which was difficult at times, but I don’t want to talk about it too much.”

CBN, NNPC, FIRS, 180 Other Federal Ministries, Agencies In Massive Recruitment Scandal

Featured Image

There are reports with strong indications that nearly all the federal ministries, departments and agencies have been carrying out illegal mass recruitments.

According to information by Sunday Punch, several government parastatals including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), among others have been indicted by recruitment scandals which they have vehemently denied.

A document spotted by the media outlet showed that after a review carried out by the Ministry of Finance, 183 out of 185 MDAs had recruited 13,780 staff in recent years.

Out of this number, 6,917 were recruited without any formal approval; 2,314 were employed by seven universities with governing council approval; only while 4,549 had correctly obtained approval from the Office of the Head of Service and Federal Character Commission.

Further breakdown showed that out of the 185 agencies, only the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army sought approval for their recruitment.

Following this discovery, a report prepared by the panel in the finance ministry was forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari before he travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment asking that the MDAs be ordered to follow due process.

It is understood that President Buhari then directed the Office of Secretary to Government of the Federation to carry out an investigation, while also placing a ban on recruitment without approval.

Speaking on the development, an official, who is well informed on the ‘shady’ recruitment, disclosed that under the pretext of replacing workers that had either resigned or were given the boot, the 183 agencies carried out mass recruitment without following due process.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said:

“The worst culprits are universities, hospitals and the Nigerian Prisons Service. One university in Nasarawa recruited 800 people without due process while another hospital hired 200 without approval.”

Several top government sources also said that the illegal hiring has made it difficult to sanitise the payroll and control personnel cost.

A senior government official said a lot of nepotism was involved and added that the illegal recruitment was one of the reasons there were regional imbalances in employment of civil servants.

“More important, the recruitment is without reference to budgetary provisions, hence leading to the risk of unpaid salaries and the need for virement which increases payroll cost,” the official stated.

Explaining how the illegal recruitment are carried out, the source stated, “For example, if a director who earns N300,000 monthly should retire, the agency will bring in six people at the cost of N50,000 per month which they use in replacement of the retiree. So, they will have six workers that were never needed. They call it replacement and spread these slots to politicians. But it’s killing the civil service. In some cases, the slots are sold in exchange for six months’ pay from those recruited.”

Nigeria To Soon Start Fertiliser Exportation

Featured Image

Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu Kwa, the Executive Secretary of the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers Association (FEPSAN), has disclosed that Nigeria will begin to export fertiliser in the next five years.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, Kwa credited the development to the ongoing programme of the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI).

He said the PFI of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had seen the revival of 11 fertiliser blending plants in the country and was now working towards increasing production for export.

His words: “Five additional blending plants will begin production by the end of this August. This will complement the existing 11 plants in the country.

“Once we have a proactive government like we have now, in the next five years things will turn around in the fertiliser industry. It will be sufficient and we will be able to supply our neighbouring countries in West Africa.

“At the moment, Dangote has gone into agreement to produce about 2.8 million tonnes of fertiliser by 2019; that is a big injection into the industry.

“The future is very bright for the fertiliser industry because at the moment in Nigeria, we are using 10 kilogrammes of fertiliser per hectare as against world average of 100 kilogrammes.”

“Jesus Is Coming Soon… I Want To Make Heaven” – Obasanjo

Featured Image

An erstwhile President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Christians should be prepared for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ as the end of the world is near.

Speaking on Saturday during the 2017 Camp Meeting Concert by Apostolic Faith Church Choir and Orchestral at the Camp Ground Igbesa in Ogun State, the former president said that as a person, he would like to make to heaven so as to sing with the angels.

His words: “You have to be fully prepared for the second coming of our Lord, there is no compromise.

“I have a friend who will always say that when we get to heaven that we will be exhausted praising God and it will be like a prison and will be very boring.

“But what I have seen this afternoon by the choir, I will want to go to heaven and join the hosts to sing.

“If this is an example of what praising God in heaven will be, then I want to be part of it. If what I have seen here is an indication of how heaven will be, I will like go to heaven.

“Jesus Christ came to the world to show us the way to salvation and eternal life. We have a good heritage and we have everything to be proud of.”

Mr. Obasanjo said God could not fix Nigeria except Nigerians invite God into their lives collectively and individually.

“We have a lot of things wrong with this country, if all Nigerians are sincere.

“Nigeria can be fixed by God but we have to invite Him into our lives. What we have to do about this country is in our hands.

“Gods grace abounds when we do not abuse it,” he said.

Nigeria Vows To Stop Open Drugs Market In 2018

Featured Image

The federal government of Nigeria has indicated its determination to stop the sale of drugs in open markets in the country at the end of 2018.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, made this known on Saturday when he visited the site for the construction of a Pharmaceutical Coordinated Wholesale Centre at Oba, near Onitsha in Anambra.

According to him, the Federal Government had announced July 31, 2017 as the deadline to end the sale of drugs in open markets.

“May be people still believe that the Federal Government is joking, government does not joke.

“We do not want fake drugs or falsified labels; we just want genuine drugs and the only way to do so is centralizing the drug market so that we can determine what comes in and what goes out.

“We have agreed to extend the deadline till Dec. 31, 2018 and that will be the last extension. We are irrevocably committed.

“By Jan. 1, 2019, if you are not here at the coordinated centre, then you cannot be anywhere. I am saying it with all seriousness that this is the last extension,” he said.

He further lauded the Anambra Government for supporting the project, and urged the leadership of the drug market in the state to settle their disputes amicably.

The minister also commended the choice of location for the centre, and expressed hope that work on the project would commence immediately to meet the deadline.

Hart Wanted Permanent City Exit

Featured Image

Joe Hart has stated that leaving Manchester City on loan was not his previous position, as he wanted a permanent move.

Joe Hart will return to the Premier League, after joining West Ham on a season long loan from City.

The England international spent last season on loan at Torino and he is starting to seek a permanent exit.

“The permanent move was going to be difficult,” Hart said to Sky Sports. “I don’t think there were too many options for me to go on a permanent, if any. That was my ideal situation.

“When you’ve asked me questions I’ve always answered honestly, and ideally I wanted to be signing a permanent deal somewhere so I could set my life up and have a direction.

“When you become a professional footballer there is no written contract that says you have to play first-team football.

“It’s a job at the end of the day but there are a lot of us, myself included, who just love playing football and I’m just lucky that it’s my job.

“It’s a short career. The money side of it is great and it is important, but at the end of the day I’m a young guy, I want to play football, that’s all I want to do. If going on loan is what needs to happen then for me that’s fine.

“The game moves quickly, there are plenty of people who have been in my situation and you have two choices. You can either moan about it and you can make smart comments and try to work out why it was done, or you can just get on with it. I’ve taken the latter.”

Redknapp Confirms Interest In Onazi

Featured Image

Harry Redknapp has said he is eager to sign Trabzonspor’s Ogenyi Onazi for Birmingham City.

The former Tottenham manager wants the services of Onazi, to add some strength to his midfield.

“We are trying to get him [Onazi], he is a good player – an outstanding player,” Redknapp told Birmingham Mail.

“We are hopeful, I don’t know where we are at today, the people who deal with that are off dealing with it.

“Hopefully it’s getting there.

“Another good player, Ghanaian boy [Acquah], strong, aggressive, good midfield player.

“It would probably be one or the other. You have got to see what you can get – and if you can get them both you have got to make a decision.

“If you can only get one, you take him and if you can’t get any – you just pray. We are trying to get one of them in.”

Aluko Aims For EPL With Fulham

Featured Image

Sone Aluko has stated that Fulham are aiming to gain promotion to the premier league, after failing last season.

Fulham could only make it to the play-offs and lost 2-1 to Reading to end their race for promotion.

“Reading worked hard and had a game plan to frustrate us — and it worked,” Aluko told The Sun.

“At the start of last season, we weren’t tipped to be anywhere near the playoffs.

“But we believed in ourselves and knew we would get there. We played very good football en route. Overall we were happy with how we performed — although of course, we weren’t content with how it ended.

“The goal is to build on last season. We’ve kept hold of a lot of key players but we’re still a few short from where we would like to be.

“I’m sure the club is working hard to bring more players in now (in order to fortify their team).

“The aim is to get promoted this time — so first and foremost that is the automatic places — but, if not, it’s the playoffs again.”

Kompany: City Has Gotten Better

Featured Image

Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City has progressed, after sealing a win in the opener against Brighton.

Brighton held strong in defence against attacks from Manchester City and fell to a goal from Aguero late in the second half.

A second goal came for Manchester City to put the game beyond doubt on their first game of the season.

The skipper told BT Sport : “We had to be patient first half, they were defending really well. They were organised and you could see they had a clear game plan, but we’ve got quality and eventually it made the difference.

“Talking about attacking options – we know it in training of course because we have to face [Aguero] every day.

“But the season is going to be long and today was an improvement on a lot of things we did last season.

“We had a five-minute spell where we were under pressure. We put our bodies in, we made some important tackles and eventually we got the goal because we were patient.

“Ultimately [we have] a lot of positive things to take from this game and we kind of built on the pre-season we had.”
